Nestled in the picturesque Lake District, Lindeth Fell Country House is a luxurious family-run guest house offering modern British dining and elegant rooms. The Edwardian property boasts lush gardens, stunning lake views, and a relaxed personal touch. With its gracious period feel and comfortable sitting rooms featuring traditional sofas and plump window seats, this five-star boutique bed and breakfast exudes warmth and charm.
Today's visit to the Lindeth Fell Hotel was absolutely delightful. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality and exceptional service. The hotel itself is beautiful, impeccably maintained, and set in stunning surroundings with breathtaking views. A special mention must go to Kath and Vlad, who went above and beyond to make our visit memorable. Kath’s kindness and attention to detail were outstanding, and Vlad’s welcome and friendliness added so much to our experience. Their dedication to excellent service truly sets this hotel apart.

Beautiful country house, service from staff were amazing. Rooms could do with a bit of updating no digital TV or mini-bar but otherwise super comfy beds and all amenities well taken care of. Breakfast and dinner high quality ingredients and tasty food but limited menu would benefit from more variety and you have to order ahead even though dinner is typically quiet. Excellent location close to Windermere we enjoyed our stay.
Mohammed R — Google review
A beautiful hotel, accompanied by delightful customer service from all members of staff! The room was immaculate and had all the amenities you could think off. The extra touch of the chocolate cookies was very appreciated. Lastly, the 3 course dinner and the breakfast were both fantastic - compliments to the chef! We will definitely be staying again.

Just back from a wonderful 4 day break - truly breath-taking vistas, amazingly attentive staff who always have a smile on their faces and will do anything to make the stay special. Lovely spacious and beautifully decorated room/bath - and excellent breakfasts and dinner. Pure gold experience and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and definitely planning to revisit.

My sister and I had a wonderful stay at Lindeth Fell. The grounds are so beautiful, peaceful, and scenic and the rooms were very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was also lovely and filling. Thank you to Ashley and Harry who were extremely accommodating and kind, and helped us plan things to do around the area. Will definitely stay here again.
Dahlia R — Google review
Wonderful hotel, wish we had stayed another night rather than moving on. Food excellent, evening meal and breakfast. Rooms lovely, clean with everything we could ask for. Location lovely, great views. Staff excellent, thank you Ashley. Will hope to come again.

We've just got home from celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary in Windermere. We stayed at Lindeth Fell hotel and from the moment we booked it several months ago we were overwhelmed by the gold star service we received. Harry, Ashley, Vlad and the 'Aussie' and chef were all amazing and helped to make our stay one to remember! The setting, the views, the attention to detail, the quietness, the decoration, the food, the cleanliness etc was beyond excellent. Thank you so much to you all. Hope to see you again next year!
Andrew — Google review
My room,Haweswater was clean and pleasant, but for 'superior' very small. The bathroom was tiny with shower cubicle to match. The double bed is 2 singles pushed together with the uncomfortable split down the middle. Vegetarian breakfast disappointing as some products were undoubtedly pre frozen. Decor is stuffy requiring refurbishment to bring it up to a contemporary level. Ambient ' elevator ' music in the lounge and dining room is annoying and far too loud. These negative points are regrettable as the hotel sits in beautiful grounds and staff are friendly and attentive. For some, a stay here may be considered a treat, but for anyone accustomed to 5 star treatment, then iam afraid you won't find it here. ( But price tags apply)

The Lakes Hotel and Spa, formerly known as the Burnside Hotel & Spa, is a refined retreat offering free Wi-Fi, breakfast, and parking. Nestled with picturesque views of Lake Windermere, it's conveniently located near Bowness-on-Windermere's village center and the boats that traverse Windermere. The hotel boasts top-notch facilities including an indoor pool, a British restaurant, and half of its rooms feature hot tubs on private balconies.
First time staying and what a wonderful environment to be in right from the moment you reach the main gate. The doormen are lovely and very welcoming, as are the reception staff. All very informative and aim to give you the best experience possible. The spa is divine, such a lovely place to relax and it feels levels above anything else I’ve experienced like that before. We had a meal in the cocktail lounge, and it was absolutely outstanding. The service was also second to none from the entire team. The gold star has to go to Ben (the Liverpudlian front of house team member in the cocktail lounge) as he is an absolute testament to the hotel and made our experience completely unforgettable from the moment he sat us down. Very informed, extremely personable and overall a very nice lad - made us feel so comfortable and welcome in a brand new place for us! If I could offer 6 stars I absolutely would. What a wonderful stay we’ve had at Lakes Hotel and Spa.
Evan S — Google review
What a fantastic experience... We had a wonderful welcome from the gentleman in the gatehouse before we even got out of the car, we were then given a glass of prosecco and a tour from Lily on reception. The pool and spa facilities were excellent, particularly with the pool side bar which we made regular use of throughout our stay! The Mizumi restaurant was outstanding, as was the rest of the food and wide selection of drinks on offer. All staff were lovely and actually food and drink were reasonably priced.
Christopher B — Google review
Lakes Hotel & Spa - my small notes: the gorgeous views and wonderful people are what truly make a stay unforgettable. Add a little humour, a touch of luxury and some lakeside magic and you have the perfect escape. All made even more memorable by Patrick, the quick-witted keeper of lake wisdom and hotel rules. I'd love to return - a truly memorable escape, even in just one day...Maybe next time to find a cheeky little ring in the jacuzzi, ha ha Mizumi, Lakes Hotel & Spa - contemporary Asian cuisine, where timing is part of the carefully orchestrated dining experience. Arrive a little late, and you might be gently nudged along as other guests queue - probably high season at play, and all part of the charm 😉 The food is beautifully presented and your palete will be delighted by the precise, refined flavours. The waiting staff are amazing and generous, and compliments flow both ways ✨

This is a long overdue review. I had been looking forward to staying at this hotel in the Lakes region, but was forced to cancel our trip when my elderly mother was unexpectedly admitted to hospital just two days before our stay. Unfortunately, our cancellation fell just outside the policy window — something I completely understand given it was during the busy holiday season. What disappointed me most, however, was the hotel's refusal to show any understanding or flexibility under the circumstances. I wasn’t asking for a refund — only for a credit or the chance to rebook once my family situation stabilized. The manager, Justine Cutolo, flatly refused, hiding behind “policy” rather than exercising any human judgment or kindness. I fully appreciate that businesses have rules to follow, but hospitality should also be about empathy and human connection - especially when guests face genuine emergencies. Sadly that spirit was missing here. I would urge anyone considering a stay here to think twice — not just about the location or amenities, but about the values and compassion of the people running it. I certainly won’t be booking again.
Girija V — Google review
Came here in sep,This was our 3rd vist as the other 2 in the beginning of the year were amazing, paid over £500 for 1 ngt for our wedding anniversary. All i can say is if this was the first time we would go back, reception staff were rude, room didn't provide enough towels robes etc, charged extra for the parking, yet because the car park was so full the could provided a space. We have to leave it in front of the laundry room. Room wasn't clean...just felt like a completely different experience so disappointing. I did email and complain i was told I would get a response within 10 working day but suprise ,suprise nothing. Definitely need to make some changes to be able to keep the stars and more importantly the repeat customers...yet I definitely wont be back
L — Google review
The hotel was lovely, the bathroom for 4 people was tiny you couldn't open the door fully to get in. No coat hooks in the apartment entrance to hang wet jackets. The double bedroom was beautifully furnished but not practical, there was nowhere to put a suitcase. The Spa was the biggest disappointment, you had to enter via the pub, the pool was tiny and very dark, only 2 loungers, you had to keep getting out the jacuzzi to turn it on. We paid for 2 treatment each and there was 4 of us, the treatment were good but the rooms were cold. The spa and pool is not big or relaxing enough for a spa break. We had 2 cars to park as coming from different parts of the country we were charged £72 for parking for 3 nights, in which we had to double park.
Susan L — Google review
The most amazing few days. Hotel amazing! Spa lovely. The treatments are slightly overpriced for what they are but still nice and it gives off a luxury vibe. Free upgraded our room to a super lovely room with hot tub/ balcony. It was amazing. The one thing I would say about this hotel is a gym is necessary! Also we didn’t have a mini fridge in our room. Was disappointed to find out there wasn’t one. All in all a great couple of days retreat 🩷

Had our wedding here. It's beautiful. Views on the terrace are amazing. Food is delicious in their little on site pub. Cocktails are fabulous. Breakfast was great also. Spa is great too although a lot of chlorine actually made my eyes sting whenever I went in...

Was a lovely stay. Breakfast were great, hosts were super friendly, and the room&toilet was very clean. It was a cozy place which I could take a rest. There were plenty of car park. Also you can have a view from little hill when you go up a bit from the stay. The place is close to the town center so you can do several thing. Also close to a bus stop. It would be great if there are a bit more amenity. Breakfast should be paid but tasted great. This was an alternative option after I got rejected from other guest house just after booking but I would have regretted if I chose another one.

Brilliant find. I've never slept so well. The beds are ridiculously comfortable. Without doubt the cleanest room and shower I've been in EVER. We are having breakfast tomorrow and I have no worries that it will be as good as the bnb. It's a 5 minute walk from the centre of Bowness. Go you won't regret it.

Absolutely lovely B&B and would highly recommend. The rooms are well equipped and have everything you need for a short break away. The rooms were also exceptionally clean and comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. The breakfast was absolutely delicious with a great selection and Robyn and Chris were wonderful hosts! Would definitely return if in the area again 😊

Second stay here, really can’t fault it. Very clean and comfortable. Robyn and Chris lovely and great hosts. Fantastic breakfasts. We felt very well looked after and it’s in a great location, quiet but easy to get about and near everything we needed. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Oakfold House to anyone visiting the Lakes.
Lisa T — Google review
Robyn and Chris were wonderful hosts and most welcoming. The bed and breakfast is tastefully decorated and my single room was perfect. There was a lovely lounge to sit in too. Location, cleanliness, decor, value and comfort are excellent. Breakfast was amazing and great cooked breakfast choices with plenty of additional items. Location was perfect with everything on the doorstep so I generally left the car and walked. I had a day out in Ambleside and Grasmere which is the only time I moved the car. I will definitely be back.
Shelley L — Google review
A wonderful warm welcome from our host Robyn, with great local information and restaurant suggestions provided. Our room was spacious and very luxurious with a very comfy bed with gorgeous high end bed linen and dual window aspect. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful. We have no hesitation in recommending Oakfold House, a perfect base for touring the Lake District, or a Romantic get away.
Jim S — Google review
I chose Oakfold House as my accommodation for my very first solo holiday. I am so glad I did. This holiday was a big deal to me, a huge confidence hurdle for me to overcome and I felt safe and looked after at Oakfold. My room was beautiful, spotless and that bed is the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept in. Breakfast was second to none. Excellent food and service from the very lovely owners. The location is also great, right on top of bus stops and a five minute walk into Bowness. I was so very sad to leave. I would really love to go back and stay there again. It will be my first choice next time. Thank you for such a lovely 4 day stay.

We had a wonderful seven day stay here and everything was amazing, including the room, the breakfasts, and the hospitality. It's a short ten minute walk down to the lakeside, and with a bus stop just at the end of the road, so very conveniently located.

WOW! This place is a gem for sure! the rooms are very comfortable and private, the whole house is unique and very quaint, they definitely care about the details and want to make sure that guests feel welcomed and at home. The breakfast is EXCELLENT!!! The house is located near many good hikes and just minutes from the lake. I wished I had spent more time there but it will be for sure a place I'll return to.

Stayed on a last minute night away So central, hosts Angus and Shirley outstanding. room 5 was large enough to an accommodate our large Long haired Weim Wicket who they made such a fuss of. Didn’t have breakfast as we fancied a lie in But would 200% recommend to anyone that needs a comfortable chilled relaxed stay. Nothing not to like !! You are doing a great job ! Will hopefully return in spring. Thanks guys

Stayed here for 4 nights and the place was so lovely, easy 2 min walk to the waterfront. My room was spacious, clean and warm. The bed was large and comfy with room heating and plenty of space, the bathroom was again large, clean and modern. The hosts very very welcoming, checked in with me to see if I needed anything or for a chat, also they had great knowledge to give about the surrounding area and activities to do. The hotel is dog friendly. There is also plenty of easy access public transport, to take you all around the area or back up to the train station. Also the hotel is close to many great pubs and restaurants.

Great location. Very dog friendly. Great breakfast for £10 a head. Better than all the local cafes. Room was fantastic 4 poster bed (room 2). Right at the heart of it. Price was very reasonable. Owner was friendly and accommodating. Dexter our dog also loved it!
Robin C — Google review
Fantastic hotel in a perfect location to explore bowness. Angus and Sherry were very accommodating and booked us in with only a few hours to spare when we were let down by another hotel. The room was amazing, with a four-poster bed, jacuzzi bath, and lots of little extra touches.
Stacey D — Google review
The couple who own the hotel are lovely people. Everything within the hotel is well thought out and is extremely dog friendly. The breakfast is the best we have ever tried, with a variety of hot and cold foods. The hotel is a 2-5 minute walk to the main town and is centrally located. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back. We were recommended this hotel by my parents who have stayed multiple times. This is our new favourite place to stay in the lakes. Thank you for your warm, hospital welcome. We will see you again soon, Bronsons Family xx

This place is absolutely beautiful. We stayed for two nights and couldn’t have wished for better place to stay. Angus and Sherry are brilliant hosts! Our room was fantastic, extremely clean, beautiful four poster bed, amazing bathroom and views and your dogs are thoroughly spoilt! Location is perfect for all the attractions and so many pubs, cafes and walking areas to enjoy throughout your stay. Communication from the hosts is excellent from as soon as you make your booking. Parking is literally a couple of minutes down the road and this is clearly stated on their website and also explained in your emails. Very reasonably priced as well. Thank you so much for a perfect stay. We loved this place so much we are already looking to come back soon and will be recommending to all our friends and family. Some rooms boast balconies with village views or walled terraces with wood-clad hot tubs. Throughly enjoyed our stay at this unique hotel. The room was exceptionally spotless, the huge bed was extremely comfy, and it was a great night's sleep. The staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating with nothing too much trouble. Complementary afternoon tea/ coffee and cake was a lovely touch. Breakfast was buffet style with a wide variety of choices, hot and cold. It is the perfect location, central Grasmere. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely hotel, rooms were spacious, clean, and well equipped. Staff were friendly and approachable. Breakfast had lots of choice and availability. Would recommend to friends and family
Dik M — Google review
Just stayed at the Moss Grove Organic and sadly I cannot recommend it. The positives are lovely rooms and the staff were cheery and very helpful. Unfortunately, the breakfast let it down. As it is 5 star we were expecting a great breakfast experience. You had to help yourself to a poor selection of both hot and cold food. You could slice the scrambled eggs (which is never good) and there were sausages and mushrooms that were warm at best. There was no choice of how you wanted eggs and no hot food orders taken. As a gluten free customer the choice was even more limited and we were given gf bread to toast in the same toaster as normal bread (not good). Also the staff were not gf knowledgable as we were offered vegan food as substitutes. Everything was self serve. When paying top prices in a 5star establishment I would expect some level of service. The ham in the cold selection was from a packet and there were olives from a jar that are clearly reissued everyday. The yoghurt and fruit jars are left out standing in the warm kitchen and not served fresh from the fridge. We were a party of seven and most of us did not have breakfast the next day. Although the rooms are beautiful and the beds comfortable there was a definite lack of character as there are no pictures or art work on any walls. Strange as Grasmere is full of great art shops. Sadly, we will not be back😢
Joanne G — Google review
Stayed for one night whilst attending a wedding. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. The room was lovely and very clean, but perhaps a little too warm, even with the window open. Breakfast was delicious and there were lots of options to eat.
Simon S — Google review
We had a great experience at Moss Grove Organic. The staff were welcoming and beyond accommodating, ensuring our needs were met, especially as we were in the middle of a long international trip. The daily breakfast is to die for, as well as the views from right outside your doorstep. Our bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was lovely. Would gladly return.
Caitlin D — Google review
Nestled gracefully in the verdant embrace of the Lake District, Moss Grove Organic is not merely a guesthouse; it is a sanctuary for the discerning traveler who cherishes both comfort and conscience. From the moment one crosses its threshold, one is enveloped in an aura of serene luxury, where every detail, from the sumptuous beds to the bubbling Jacuzzi baths, whispers indulgence with a side of eco-conscious charm. The hosts, paragons of warmth and wit, execute the delicate dance of hospitality with effortless grace, ensuring each guest feels less like a visitor and more like an invited confidant to the secrets of organic living. Mornings here are a celebration of the earth’s bounty, featuring a simple yet wholesome breakfast. One might find parking a trifle competitive, but such trials are mere trifles when weighed against the sheer joy of unwinding amidst walkable trails and sweeping views that make the heart sing. In essence, Moss Grove Organic offers an experience where sustainability meets sophistication, proving that green can indeed be the new glamorous

Great location in centre of Grasmere. Small parking area. Wheelchair access to ground floor where there are rooms available. No lifts. Very friendly and helpful staff. No night porter but staff can be accessed by phone. Rooms very comfortable and warm. Breakfast was mainly vegetarian/vegan but ham and sausages also available. We enjoyed the porridge!

Lovely house, the room was clean and bed comfortable. Easy walk to the lake & shops. Host Mark made us feel welcome and assured us of any help should we need it. Parking behind the house was easy.

Brilliant communications before and during our stay to let us know the covid procedures. Owner Mark went out of his way to give us his parking space since we were parking up for the duration of our stay, although it wasn't actually necessary as there was other parking available. Beautiful house, lovely attic room with a fantastic view. The room was cosy, clean and comfy and I had no concerns with hygiene or safety. Breakfast served in the room as an extra precaution was always at the agreed time, fresh and very tasty. Excellent service, would highly recommend.

Mark the owner is very helpful communicating via text & email.masks are to be worn in the hotel until you reach your room. Breakfast is served in your room & is delicious at a time of your choosing before 09:00. Theres drinks in your room tea, coffee & hot chocolate. There are also biscuits. The room was spotlessly clean with large beds. I did not worry about the virus at all hands free sanatiser by the front door. I would highly recommend a visit

This was our first experience in the Lake District and we arrived at Elim House on the May Day bank holiday(May 7th) . We used our sat nav and it took us right to the back of the building where the owner had kindly created space to enable us park our car. We were greeted by both Mark and Grace , the owners and shown to our room. Our room was extremely clean and tidy. The owners provided lovely biscuits and a choice of tea and coffee . The room looked and smelled new and the owner confirmed that they had recently refurbished the majority rooms in the hotel. We wandered around Windermere and tried a local place that had been recommended by the hosts. The next day we went down for breakfast and was greeted by Mark who cooked our breakfast to perfection. Grace was her lovely self and served us bottomless teas with a smile. The next couple of days were exactly the same with such great service. There wasn't anything either of them weren't willing to do to ensure our stay was a pleasant one. The last night we went to the local Thai restaurant, as per Mark's recommendations. Prior to us leaving, it started raining heavily and Mark offered to lend us his umbrella. It is this, and a number of other reasons why I and my husband would not hesitate to return to the Lake District and Elim house in particular! Thank you so much for making our stay so pleasant !

This quickly became our home away from home. Mark was welcoming and really made an effort to look after us. Very clean and made us feel safe adhering to COVID guidelines. Great location and tasty breakfast. We will be returning sooner rather than later! Cheers from Conor and Faye.

Mark and Grace run a very pleasant Guest House. Mark allowed us to use the rear car park where he parks. It's a nice place for peace and quiet no children running around as it's Adults only. Breakfast was awesome with lots of choices. Thanks Mark & Grace if we are back in the Lakes we will definatly book your place.

Our recent stay at Elim bank was absolutely delightful. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. The room was beautifully decorated, clean, and had everything we needed. The location was ideal for exploring the stunning scenery of the Lake District, with plenty of hiking trails and picturesque villages nearby. We especially enjoyed the delicious breakfast served each morning, which was the perfect way to start our day. One of the most genuinely hospitable stays I’ve had. We stayed for 3 nights and were so well looked after by Symmoane and Adam who were such kind, thoughtful hosts. The room was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed, and the location was perfect- easy walking distance to both Bowness and Windermere, a ton of restaurants and shops and the bus stop was just 2 minutes away making exploring the lake district without a car so easy! Symmoane and Adam were very transparent before booking (including letting us know there wouldn’t be a cooked breakfast), but the breakfast was still hearty and delicious, the homemade compote was honestly one of the best I’ve had. They even added some lovely touches when they found out it was my birthday, which made the stay feel extra special. A beautiful place run by wonderful people. We’ll 100% be recommending and would love to come back.

Elim bank is a short walk from the lake .&Bowness pier , As you arrive you get a warm welcome & shown into a cosy clean & tidy room , where no comfort is left out , If I was being picky it would be the single glass windows , on busy road ,but you soon adapt. Breakfast is continental, with a large variety of porridge & other cereals ,toast & croissants, plenty of variety of tea’s & coffee & juices .The Breakfast room has 3 tables . With a variety of sittings . Your stay will be made enjoyable by Adam & Symmeone who cannot do enough for you , Thank you , good luck in the future xx

My partner and I were looking for a nice place to spend two days in the lake district, and we're both happy we chose Elim Bank Guest House. Our room was clean and comfortable, and we felt the whole house was well kept. Set just a short walk to Bowness pier and Lake Windermere, the Guest House is in a good location. Andy and Simone were both very friendly and offered good advice on places where to eat. We both felt they were great hosts who made us feel welcome. Breakfast was lovely. Not the usual full english but a continental breakfast buffet, which was a nice change. We loved the coffee, and I would definitely recommend the homemade fruit and greek yoghurt compots.

We had exceptional experience. Host Adam and his wife have been fantastic throughout our stay. Check-in in was smooth, we felt welcomed and Adam explained everything pretty quickly. Room was neat and clean. Everything was well arranged. There were a lot of toys and books for young kids. Breakfast was nice with plenty of options to choose from. Adam arranged vegan options for us. This guest hous is comes with private car park at the back side of house. Location is superb, pretty near to the Lake and main market. Overall we felt it was a five 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stay. Special thanks to Adam for helping and making our stay memorable.

Bowness Guest House is a charming bed and breakfast located in Bowness-on-Windermere, just a short distance from popular attractions like World of Beatrix Potter and Lake Windermere. The guest house offers comfortable rooms with sitting areas and provides a delicious cooked breakfast with vegetarian options. Guests appreciate the warm hospitality of hosts Michelle and Bernard, who are knowledgeable about the area and provide helpful tips for exploring.
We recently stayed at a fantastic guest house in Bowness, Windermere, and I couldn't recommend it more highly. The location was ideal—just a short walk from the charming town centre and the lakeside, offering easy access to local shops, restaurants, and stunning views of Windermere. The guest house itself exuded warmth and character. The owners, Bern & Michelle were incredibly welcoming. Our room was immaculate, with a comfortable bed and tasteful décor. The attention to detail really stood out. What truly set this place apart, though, was the atmosphere. It felt like a home away from home—peaceful, cozy, and with a genuine personal touch. If you're looking for a quiet, comfortable retreat in a beautiful part of the Lake District, this guest house is a hidden gem.

Just got home from a weekend in the Lakes where we stayed at the Bowness Guest House and we really enjoyed our stay. Accommodation was spotless, hosts were friendly and welcoming. Other members of our group had told the hosts we were here for my partners birthday and they were surprising him - the hosts were very pleasant and accommodating and allowed us to pull off the surprise really well. Convenient location - 5/10 min walk to centre and hosts were able to provide recommendations for local places to eat and go! Thank you both, we really enjoyed it!

Stayed here for a quick 3 day break. Excellent location, only a short 5 -10 min walk to all the restaurants, pubs, shops and lake. Hosts were great, friendly and welcoming. Room was perfect for the two of us and spotless. We would definitely stay here if visiting the area again. Highly recommended 👍

Best place to stay in Bowness. The owners are incredible! They are very friendly, doing their best to accommodate you. When we arrived they provided us with fresh cold water and a fan as there was a heatwave that weekend and gave us extra cold water the next day. They also gave us plenty of good tips for where to go around the lakes and places for food and drinks. The rooms are beautiful, decorated very well and very clean. The bed is very comfortable. The location is also amazing, very close to the hassle and bustle of Bowness but in a nice quiet road. Parking was nearby so easy to find a space. Overall amazing, can’t wait to come back in the future.

Found this place on searching internet. Looked ok .so booked direct, spoke to a lady michelle.i had booked a superior king room.i was told by Michelle that I didn't need a receipt ? big mistake.room not really as described.and woke up freezing, room only, was very expensive considering purchasing breakfast etc.Not for us. Make sure you get a receipt, better book through booking.com. superior king room 2 fairly small, try an air BnB,or cottage. If you want space, comfort, and warmth, and choice to make own meals cost effective.it put us off Windermere to be honest.

What a place!! Jacky went above and beyond to accommodate us and our guests for our wedding weekend. We had numerous phone calls/messages exchanged in the lead up to the day, to organise logistics of hair and make up suppliers to ensure our stay worked well given the numbers of people in rooms etc. Jacky even provided a bottle of bubbles for the bridal party to enjoy. We had full use of the house, and Jacky was so accommodating in letting us rearrange the guest lounge for hair, and also changing tables around in the dining room to ensure us and our families could all eat on one table. Not to mention the fact she happily printed off my husband's final speech. The B&B location is gorgeous, right in the heart of stunning Grasmere. The views from the rooms are just breathtaking and we cannot wait to return. Thank you Jacky so much for your kindness, patience and incredible hospitality. Beautiful B&B. Laura & Aaron Rose xx

Absolutely perfect B&B, in a stunning location. Jacky was an exceptional host who made us feel very welcome, and provided a delicious breakfast with plenty of options. The room was spacious, comfortable, and very clean with an amazing view of Helm Crag (see picture taken from our bed!) and the sheep fields of the nearby farm. It was close to lots of lovely pubs, cafes, shops, and walks. I stayed as I took part in the Fred Whitton cycle event, and Jacky was really helpful with providing a safe space to store my bike and also was accommodating in providing a selection of breakfast bits despite my early start. Overall I couldn’t recommend Raise View highly enough. It made our weekend and we look forward to staying again.

Nice little food place. The restaurant is cozy downstairs in the pub. The fish and chips is very nice, a large portion. We also had the gammon and caesar salad which were delicious as well. Reasonable prices and friendly service.

Myself and husband have stayed since Tuesday going home this morning. The check in was smooth we were greeted by Luke who is very polite and showed us to our room. The room was spotlessly clean thanks to Carrissa the cleaner with a great bathroom including huge walk in shower but the best bit is the view of the lake I could never get board of that. We stayed in room 8. The bar 🍻 was great as well lovely and cosy again with fantastic service from Luke who by the way does the most amazing cocktails. We were literally just a few steps from the restaurants and eateries but the Angel Inn just down the road 5 mins walk does delicious food and also Mio Mondo 2 mins walk away for the best breakfasts and toasties. The lake is also just at the bottom of the road we recommend you do the boat 🚢 trip. We would most definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone. Thankyou Westmorland Inn you were all fantastic 😊

Ate here several times before lock down and the food was always good. Last night I had the most amazing and best fish pie ever! Don't judge a book by it's covers... Booked Sunday Lunch, feared the worst when we walked through the pub door.. How wrong I could be... Staff very friendly, restaurant downstairs, had the roast beef Sunday lunch, what can I say ... This chef can cook a proper roast, med rare rump of beef, all the trimmings, good gravy, and to finish proper pudding!! Absolutely spot on, eaten at far pricer establishments and had nowhere near the quality of food... A hidden gem....

Nice big room. Decent shower room. Nice tea, coffee and hot chocolate provided. The only thing was we were at the front of the building. Must be a loose manhole cover on the road and it was loud when cars drove over. Not the hotels fault. Nice, helpful check in. Fantastic location.

Avoid this bar! Was in last night (Wed 1st Oct) with my wife sitting at a high table having some drinks. Went to the toilet and when I came back an old female sitting at the bar had taken my seat away and was sitting on it ! Obviously the bar stool she had been already sitting on wasn't big enough for her! There were plenty of free seats but she wanted mine. My wife was still sitting at the table and challenged her . She ignored her and started bitching away with her herd. I told my wife to drink up and l went outside to order a taxi . I was followed by a male in the women's company to see what I was doing. He stayed outside listening in until I went back inside . We grabbed our jackets and waited outside for the taxi. Everywhere else locals have been great such a shame area let down by a few entitled privilidged idiots. Only 1 star as I have to give it some sort of rating.

Such a beautiful location. Across the street is the lake, where you can catch a beautiful sunset/rise. Team here is very friendly, we were lucky enough to have dinner here which was phenomenal. A really beautiful hotel in a extremely picturesque location. We stayed up in the Lakehouse part of the hotel, and the room there was amazing. It was so clean and well presented. We never wanted to leave it. The fact that they allowed us to have our black Labrador stay in a room like that with us, is so refreshing. The staff in the restaurant were all lovely. They gave treats and plenty of strokes to our dog. There was a wait on the food during dinner service but they explained the issue to us in advance and were very apologetic about it. The breakfast was one of the nicest I've ever had in a hotel. The only mark down is for the parking. There wasn't enough parking at the main hotel for us, so at first we had to park on a a side road. Then, when we found out we were at the Lakehouse, we were told that there was enough parking at the top of the hill where the building was situated, so we went and moved our car. But there wasn't at first because due to the space layout, parking in some spaces would have blocked access to others. Othr

I had a great stay recently! There was a slight hiccup with check-in, but the staff handled it quickly and even offered me a complimentary drink, which was a nice touch. I'd definitely recommend it for anyone visiting the area!

Everything was great, stayed in the main hotel. Rooms clean and well appointed. The dog treats left in the room on check in were a nice touch. Staff friendly and helpful, advising the use of the app to get free drinks etc. Breakfast was lovely and the evening menu in the bar was well cooked and good quality. Despite the mixed reviews we had no issues at all and would stay again. Parking is limited but easy to access.

Great location, average room, and very poor customer service experience from one particular staff. My friend and I stayed for one night and the room we got was too close to the restaurant, we could hear the loud music from the bar like there was a party next door. We asked a staff for help while ordering dinner at the restaurant, communicated in fluent English the whole time, while he suddenly said “nihao, Xie Xie “ (hello, thank you in Mandarin) to us. When we looked at him in confusion, he said “you are Chinese, aren’t you?” Yes we are Chinese indeed but we didn’t have any previous conversations with this staff and he was purely judging our ethnicity based on our looks! We acted friendly initially because we thought he was interested in our culture or tried to show his hospitality BUT WE WERE WRONG. He didn’t show any further intention to communicate and just walked away. Since then he walked past our table a few times, obviously busy with his work, but he repeated “nihao, xiexie “ loudly every time he walked past us. Even the next two days when we walked past him in the restaurant, we greeted him with “hi”, he responded “good evening “ first, then immediately said “nihao, xiexie” after recognising us EVERY SINGLE TIME. He said the words so loudly that I’m sure other staff around must have heard him. I looked at them hoping they would stop him, but sadly no one else seemed to find that inappropriate. We didn’t confront him because he walked away fast each time, plus we didn’t want to ruin our mood for the holiday. But to be honest, our trip was ruined. This is completely discrimination and racism which shockingly happened on someone works in hospitality. We will definitely not recommend this place to any friends because we don’t want their holiday ruined by such ridiculous racism acts.

The location is good, on the lake and a 20 minute walk into Ambleside town centre. I had 3 rooms booked as we were travelling as a group of friends, we all had issues with the hot water, my room had no hot water via the sink at all and the toilet flush was broken. My bed was a mess, the bottom sheet had just been draped onto the mattress, the housekeeper hadn’t bothered to tuck it in! Breakfast was unappetising, pre cooked hot food piled up in warming trays, filter coffee with no options for fresh coffees. Overall I wouldn’t recommend given the price of £240 for a one night stay.

The room we had was lovely with a great view of the lake but the loud music from the hotel restaurant below starts at 7am and goes on until 11pm every day which was incredibly annoying when we were hoping for a peaceful relaxing couple of days. Such a shame as other than that the hotel is lovely.

Loved our dining experience at Rothay. We had a table of 6 and found the staff to be accomodating and generous with their time. Food was as good as we had heard, no disappointments here. A comfortable and exceedingly pleasant meal

This is a beautiful hotel that is super doggy friendly Our room was on the ground floor of the pavilion which also included a secure courtyard which the dogs could be outside in. The room was very well appointed with a huge and very comfortable bed. We had an afternoon tea which was lovely - amazing selection of teas and a great selection of sandwiches and cakes - definitely recommend. For your fury friends they are catered for in every way and are welcomed throughout most areas of the hotel - they can have breakfast with you in the morning (ours had a lovely sausage treat) and they are also welcome when eating in the restaurant in the evening. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent too - the raspberry soufflé was amazing! The staff are also amazing - they will do everything they can to enhance your stay - very attentive and assets to the hotel. Definitely recommend a stay and we will be going back too!

Stunning from start to finish. Had one of the rooms with a hot tub and it was well worth it. The staff were super friendly, nothing too much for them. Breakfast was super and you could tell was fresh produce (small thing, would advise that toast should come as standard). Would happily recommend and stay again.

Just recently stayed at the Rothay Manor Hotel in Ambleside, Lake District. What a gorgeous Manor Hotel. The cuisine is amazing and we had dinner and breakfast. At breakfast order the egg on sourdough with truffle mushrooms, smoked salmon and avocado. Fabulous coffee. The bartender is talented so have one of his signature cocktails and best of all you start this amazing experience with Tom who is at reception and will do anything to make you feel special and at home. A visit to the beautiful Lake District and quaint beautiful village of Ambleside is not complete without a stay at the Rothay Manor. Make sure to include an easy walk to the caves nearby and close by are so many stone circles.

We had an incredible dinner at Rowan in Rothay Manor. The standout was the capered plaice beautifully cooked, buttery, and vibrant. The sides were perfect complements: Jersey potatoes and tender, charred broccolini that added just the right balance. The beetroot soup was silky, earthy, and full of depth. The only slight miss was the garden salad, which felt a bit ordinary compared to the rest of the meal. That said, the overall experience was exceptional easily one of the best ten meals I've ever had. Refined yet comforting, every dish felt like it was made with care and precision. Rowan is absolutely worth a visit if you're anywhere near Ambleside!

"Disappointing Stay at Rothay Manor – Not Worth the Luxury Price Tag" Six of us (along with two dogs) stayed at Rothay Manor in three separate rooms, spread across the hotel. Unfortunately, while there were some positives, the overall experience fell well short of expectations, especially given the price and the way the hotel markets itself as “luxury” and “dog-friendly.” The Good: 1. The location in Ambleside is fantastic—close to the town centre with plenty of options nearby. 2. The food was delicious, fresh, and very well prepared. 3. Our dogs were given a sausage each morning, which was a nice touch and much appreciated. The Bad: 1. The staff should be more welcoming and helpful. Instead, they often came across as judgmental and biased toward certain “types” of customers. 2. The rooms could have been cleaner, and for the price, they lacked basic amenities you’d expect in a luxury hotel (cotton buds, slippers, etc.). We assumed these would be provided and didn’t bring our own. 3. Even the basic rooms are not cheap, so the lack of attention to detail was disappointing. The Ugly: 1. Describing this as a “luxury hotel” is a stretch. The cost is nowhere near justified by what’s on offer—a big mismatch between price and value. 2. The hotel promotes itself as “dog-friendly,” yet dogs are banned from most parts of the property: not allowed on the first floor, not in certain areas, and not even in the gardens. Apart from the breakfast sausage, it felt anything but dog-friendly. 3. The staff were unhelpful when asked for guidance about local attractions or walks. For the first time in 60 years of travelling worldwide, we encountered a hotel where staff genuinely couldn’t recommend even basic local spots. 4. Staff is nowhere to be found between 8pm and 8am. If you need any help, good luck with that! In Summary: While we loved the Lake District and will definitely return, we will not be staying at Rothay Manor again. This experience left us disappointed, and we won’t be engaging in further communication about it.
Heman S — Google review
I was disappointed with the portion sizes and overall value at the Rothay Manor restaurant. While the taste was okay, the portions were extremely small. I had asked the waiter for a larger dish and was recommended the lamb chops with dauphinoise potatoes and hispi cabbage. However, the dish I received consisted of bland, underwhelming lamb chops, a tiny spoonful of potato dauphinoise (which lacked cream, garlic, or cheese), and just a sprinkling of hispi cabbage. After sharing my concerns, the waiter still had the audacity to ask for a tip... I also learned that the fillet steak is only 6oz and is a fatty cut, which, given the price, is quite disappointing. Portions and quality were much better under the previous ownership. Based on this experience, I won’t be coming back.

The stay was perfect from start to finish! This is the second time I've stayed at Rothay Manor, and it was just as memorable the second time around. I stayed in the Pavilion Garden Suite with Hot Tub and took my Frenchie along too. The room was incredible, and worth every penny. The staff are super friendly, professional and attentive. They were so accommodating, and nothing was too much trouble for them. Tom on reception was wonderful! I ate in the restaurant in the evening and took my dog along, and then had room service in the morning. I can't wait to come back. Definitely my favourite hotel in the Lakes! Thank you so much for such a lovely stay :)

Just got back from a weekend at this beautiful place. It's amazing how quiet and how you feel far out from everything here but In reality you are 4 mins from town. Breakfast was amazing and the service was first class, Danny was witty and will go far with his enthusiastic and welcoming manner. Thank you for a brilliant experience.

We had such a lovely experience at this hotel! The breakfast was amazing, and the staff were incredibly friendly. They treat everyone with so much respect and kindness. Highly recommended! A great perk: the Windermere cruise is just a 5-minute walk from the hotel.

Excellent trip, and place to stay. Extremely good location, staff are all very kind, helpful and attentive! Breakfast is very good - lots of selection for continental and then a delicious freshly cooked option. Value for money. Would return and recommend.

It has a cosy room, is close to the lake, has good pubs and restaurants nearby, and is quiet at night. Super friendly male receptionist, helped my boyfriend and me a lot. Good breakfast, a lot of choices and a fruit buffet. Highly recommend!

Absolutely loved staying here at Burn How. All the staff are amazing, great walks recommended, food was great and the room was comfy. Unfortunately didnt manage to find the hidden bench on the walk so you'll have to keep my wine on ice until next time! I will recommend this to family and friends and I will come back. Thank you again for your hospitality.

Location ideal, quiet whilst only 2 minutes from town.Variation on room types a little quirky, garden rooms preferable with their small balcony and access to gardens, parking within grounds. Staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast, choice, quality, service excellent.

I stayed here for two nights and was extremely unhappy. The service attitude was very terrible, especially the male manager who was arrogant and rude. Their staff mistakenly gave me the wrong room, which the manager didn't admit. The room was also very small and dirty. The slippers were never provided. We came to this hotel specifically, but after arriving, we felt terrible. Please don't come here again.

Located just five miles from Bowness-on-Windermere, it provides a peaceful countryside retreat. The hotel's warm atmosphere and fuss-free decor in its 24 rooms and suites make for a comfortable stay. Absolutely amazing service, awfully sorry not sure of the name of the lady who looked after us and checked us in on Saturday night she was so helpful and lovely. We arrived a night early by accident completely my fault, she managed to accommodate my party of 6 with no issues at all. Nothing was to much trouble for her or any of the staff. All amazing. Hotel beautiful, decor lovely, view stunning, evening meal and breakfast amazing

Lovely Hotel retaining many of its original Arts and Crafts features but with a recent update. 5 min drive/20 min walk from Windermere lake and village. Fabulous murals by a local artist, modern country style furnishings, comfortable and stylish seating in lounge, bar and dining areas. Extensive gardens with views down to Windermere from the grounds and the Dining/Breakfast room. Free complimentary upgrade to lovely large King room (19) on arrival. Very comfortable and clean with quality linen and towels, bottled water, tea/coffee, biscuits, sofa and armchair. Limited cooked options for breakfast (included in room rate) but the full English and Eggs Benedict were tasty and nicely presented. Complimentary whole fruit, yoghurt, cereals, juices, toast, served with coffee or tea. Both staff members we spoke with (Reception and Bar/Dining Room) were very welcoming, friendly and efficient. Ours was a midweek stay at a very good price. Small points to make are that a coffee refill would have been appreciated and I'm sure would have been provided if asked for, no preserves, although marmalade was quickly provided when requested. Our mattress (with topper) was very soft and our personal preference is firm so this did affect our sleep but it is personal preference. A lovely stay overall enjoyed by us both.

Clearly a family business sold to a commercial firm. All personality in the service has gone, staff are clearly overstretched and going through the motions, laundry all over the hallways for hours, room not service at 4pm, breakfast choice limited for a 4 star hotel. Recently been to much better at similar and lower price hotels. Clearly they don't want repeat business. The quirky decorations do not compensate for the cafeteria style dining room. Accepts dogs everywhere so maybe this is the target audience.

We had a lovely overnight stay at this trendy hotel. After a long drive it was a pleasure to check in and to see the beautiful view from the bedroom down to the lake. Dinner was the best Sunday lunch we've had in a long time. Would definitely recommend staying and eating here

Our little family of three stayed at The Ryebeck Hotel for two nights and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly. We were upgraded to a lake view room which was stunning. What I loved about this hotel was that it felt like a boutique hotel and most (if not all) of the rooms have baths which is becoming rarer to find. We have a little girl and so being able to bath her was great. The lounge area is also beautiful and cosy. The hotel is also incredibly close to Bowness-on-Windemere - about a 5 minute drive and 20 minutes walk. We loved our stay here and will definitely visit again. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic service from Julia, the wonderful receptionist. She went out of her way today to make us welcome. Her friendly and helpful service was first class and we will definitely return. Well done for promoting the Ryebeck too, you are a superb employee. Thank you

Stayed here recently and whilst it’s a nice, quirky hotel, we were unlucky enough to have a room on the third floor where the water pressure was non- existent! The shower was a dribble , if the tap was run or toilet flushed, it stopped altogether. The room itself was ok with a lovely view. Just seen the owners on ‘ Four in a Bed’ - their pickiness at defects in the decor made me laugh as the Ryebeck is full of them! Breakfast on first morning was good, but on second morning I had eggs Benedict- 1 poached egg on a half roll- surely this is a half portion? I’ve always been offered 2 eggs on a whole roll as standard. Cupboard on corridor and off our bathroom hanging open with old paint tins stored in them. The young staff were friendly but quite slow and a bit clueless, someone requested the huge fire pit be lit but they tried to light huge damp logs with a couple of firelighters, sending swathes of thick smoke over the whole outdoor area and clearing it instantly, they had to come out with water to douse the smoke! It was quite funny! When I highlighted the water issue I was told they were getting a plumber in but other holiday makers have also highlighted this so is probably an excuse regularly trotted out. We had a nice time but not worth the money we paid.

The Belsfield Hotel, located in the popular holiday destination of Bowness-on-Windermere in the Lake District, offers a refined experience with its two restaurants, bar, and event space. The property boasts stunning gardens and picturesque views of Lake Windermere. Built in 1845, this award-winning hotel provides elegant afternoon tea options including plant-based, gluten-free, and children's choices alongside traditional offerings.
Just returned from a wonderful weekend stay at The Belsfield. Yes, they are doing some improvements on the building, however, the improvements they are doing are beautiful. None of it caused any disruption or impacted our stay negatively. The room was perfectly clean, quiet, peaceful, spacious and comfortable, the complementary toiletries smelled beautiful. We had a gorgeous view of the lake from our room and the food, both at Breakfast and Dinner was of good quality, generous portions and delicious. All the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. The bar area with relaxing music added perfectly to the atmosphere and experience. Teylor who was working behind the bar on his first shift, totally smashed it! Good luck to him, I’m sure he’ll continue to do an amazing job of putting a smile on customers faces. A gorgeous place to stay. Thank you to all at the Belsfield for making our stay an absolute pleasure. I wouldn’t change a thing! I’ll definitely stay there again next time I’m in the Lakes 😊

The view from The Belsfield Hotel is absolutely stunning – overlooking Lake Windermere, it’s truly one of the best features of the stay. The location is also excellent, just a short walk from the pier, bus station, and several good restaurants. The hotel’s garden is beautiful and well-maintained, offering a peaceful place to relax. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and very helpful throughout our visit. Also, it’s good to note that the elevators have been fixed and are working properly now. However, the hotel rooms are in need of renovation. The furniture feels old and dated, and the curtains need repairing. There was noticeable dust and even some spider webs, which shouldn’t be the case for a hotel of this standard. The ironing board was also dusty and clearly not cleaned properly. The air conditioning wasn’t working, though a fan was provided in the cabinet. It helped a little, but it’s not a proper substitute, especially in warmer weather. Overall, a beautiful location and lovely staff, but the room quality and cleanliness definitely need improvement.

Stayed here for a two night midweek break. The hotel is under renovation but this did not dtract from the ambience. We stayed in room 51 which is a cosy double. The room was adequately sized and nicely decorated. The bathroom was very clean however to note that it is oblnly approximately 2ft wide x 6 ft long, ( size of a wardrobe?) making it tiny and difficult to do more than the basics in. For those on the larger size, this would be a real problem. We had opted for the deal that allowed up to £30pp for an evening meal. My husband having fish and chips, myself the Chicken Supreme. The fish was mostly batter but plenty of chips with a tiny portion of mushy peas. I would have expected the chips at least to be seasoned but not to be. My meal was similar in that it lacked any seasoning. The small portion of chicken had skin on which is fine, but it was not crispy and had to be removed. The mashed potato was a huge, disproportionate portion but was not creamy nor seasoned. This was accompanied by one small piece of brocolli that was over cooked and again, unseasoned. The mushroom sauce was ok. We then had sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. The ice cream tasted cheap and not creamy as expected but the pudding was nice . Breakfast was ok, buffet style and perfectly adequate . I would have liked butter to be available and not just Flora for toast etc. for those who don't like the alternative. The staff in the hotel were very friendly and attentive and could not be faulted. The location and scenery were perfect. The location right next to the town and of course the lake is beautiful. Would I stay again? Yes but would not eat in and would definately book a larger room. 😁

WOW what a wonderful hotel. The view of the lake the gardens. The rooms are clean and the staff looks after them. The food was great. A good selection of light meals mains and deserts. The chef Garath is great. He knows that his great pies are to be complimented with mashed potatoes not American fries. The mash and his special gravy really added a great touch to his food

The Belsfield Hotel presented us with an exceptional experience. Car parking in the area is very restricted and comes at a premium, this hotel has an abundance of space! Upon arrival we were greeted by Charlie, who was extremely polite, friendly, professional and courteous. Charlie became a really nice addition to our stay, and he is an ambassador of the hotel and an indispensable attribute. The rooms were exceptional, we stayed in rooms 26 and 40, beautiful suites overlooking the Great Lake Windermere. The staff were all extremely courteous, polite, professional and ensured our stay went without any issues whatsoever. The breakfasts were exceptional, giving a huge selection of food and beverages all served within a wonderful restaurant area. The location is a premium, only minutes away from walking into the town, comprising multitudes of exceptional restaurants and bars, together with lots of local shops. The bus services to Ambleside, Windermere, Grasmere etc are excellent and are very enjoyable and convenient. Beautiful place to stay, and again many thanks to Charlie for going that extra mile, and always with a smile. 😊

A delightful weekend at a superb hotel. Work at the hotel meant that our booked room was unavailable, which I had not been advised of until we arrived. Another room was available (albeit no lake view), an acceptable offer of compensation was made. Breakfast was excellent and all the staff encountered were very pleasant. Central to all amenities, will stop here again.

Two weeks ago, I was on my honeymoon trip to Scotland with my wife and we decided to visit Lake District to spend the night as a storm was expected that night. We found Belsfield hotel by chance and fell in love with it. Mr. Diego received us and took us for a tour around the hotel and gave us a nice room. Unfortunately, two weeks after checking out, I received a £100 traffic fine for using the hotel car park overnight and the car rental company also charged me £40 for administrative cost. Though I asked while checking in to charge my credit card for car park when it was swiped for extras, it looks like something went wrong and the system didn’t register it. I simply wrote in my review a note of the fine and query if I should pay it. The next day, as I was about to pay the fine online, I was so pleased to receive the management’s prompt and positive response by e-mail, in which Mr. Diego himself promised to try to cancel the fine and to write to the rental company. This response alone and the hotel’s attempt to try and resolve the issue proves the level of professionalism of the hotel management. Thank you Belsfield. We look forward to visit you again for a longer time 🙏🏼

Very poor Hotel was worn out with peeling paint everywhere you look. Our room had cracked windows and mould in the corners. The bathroom fan was so loud it woke us up when it randomly started up at 12:30pm. Also be aware the WiFi is terrible and the phone signal is not great. Don’t expect a bottle of water in your room just a note telling you to use the tap in the bathroom, that’s the one with the cracked tiles and dodgy fan! Although the staff were nice and friendly I would not recommend it.

Lovely and clean, staff lovely and friendly, hearty breakfast.. Me and hubby were in family room as last room available.. In our opinion this is far too small to be called a family room, although big enough for the 2 of us.. The shower was the smallest shower we have ever used!! Difficult to move around, Even smaller than a caravan shower, it's not a family bathroom.. Apart from that we had a lovely one night stay

2 Stars for the Staff. Absolutely Amazing Staff. Very Helpful, Polite and caring. 1 Star for the Breakfast. A nice Breakfast. But my room was dim of light. 4 poster bed directly under the light really doesn't help. The Sink is in the bedroom. Very un hygienic after you are going toilet. Not ideal. Deluxe room. Only the view was . Shower was 2ft by 2ft. Being 6ft tall it was a Struggle. The Shower had mould. And there were cracks in the tiles of the shower. Ran out of toilet paper on the last morning. Had my own Tissues luckily. Definitely not a 4 Star hotel in my opinion. 3 stars would be fair to say. In my opinion. Unfortunately my daughter found a hair in her Breakfast on the last day. Doubt Housekeeping Changed our bedsheets while We was there. And I'm sure Housekeeping never hoovered everyday While We was there as well.

What a gem of a place to stay, staff are friendly and welcoming. The room was spacious with a large bedroom with everything you could need Huge bathroom with a spa that i did use. If you need breakfast you can get that delivered to your room which we did and it was very nice, ordered off the menu but altered to suit what we wanted which was fantastic. Double doors open to a separate little courtyard off the bedroom, couldn't make use of that as it was raining. Easy walk to the centre of town for eats and shops. And if you needed anything you just had to ask the staff and they would be more than happy to get what you needed. Great place to stay.

I will assume that the one star reviewers either had expectations that could never be matched or simply stayed at a different place but we could not have happier with our stay at Windermere Suites. We were contacted the morning of our arrival to say that the current occupants had requested an extra night and would we be happy with a free room upgrade, a good sign if ever there was one. We were upgraded to the Cartmel Suite and loved it. It was well presented, clean and welcoming. The staff were present at all times, attentive and friendly, happy to help in any way they could. The breakfast was great and delivered at a time that suited us. The hotel is well situated for a stroll to Windermere town centre at the top of the road and Bowness and the Lake at the bottom. We will definitely be returning as soon as possible.

An Exquisite Lake District Escape – Pure Five-Star Bliss at Storrs Gate House Storrs Gate House is nothing short of sublime—a true jewel nestled just moments from the shores of Lake Windermere. From the moment we arrived, we were swept into a world of quiet elegance and warm hospitality. The house itself is stunning—immaculately maintained, brimming with character, and surrounded by the most enchanting English gardens adorned with twinkle lights and lush greenery. It was simply magical. The location is perfection: serene and peaceful, yet only a leisurely 10-minute stroll into the heart of Windermere, where we caught both the scenic lake cruise and the train. And just across the road? A sophisticated marina with an excellent restaurant and bar. The convenience paired with tranquility is unmatched. Breakfast was a daily delight—cooked to order with impeccable presentation and flavor. We savored fresh fruit, creamy yogurt, and a proper full English, all accompanied by piping hot tea and coffee served in a sun-dappled breakfast room overlooking the garden. Utterly divine. Free parking was an unexpected bonus, and the gracious hosts made our stay even more memorable with their warmth, helpfulness, and attention to detail. My husband and I cherished every moment of our long weekend at Storrs Gate House. This is an exceptional stay in every sense. Highly recommended—just be sure to book well in advance. It’s a treasure you won’t want to miss.

First class accommodation with most friendly hosts, who obviously know how to showcase the best of Englishness in a traditional English B&B. My wife and I have stayed here for two nights and were absolutely impressed with the cleaness, the classy taste of the interior decoration and the spacial suite we stayed in. Everything is second to none. Well done, Susanne and Glenn.

We have just come back from a 3 night stay in Bowness. This was our 3rd visit to Storrs Gate House and it definitely won’t be our last. Suzanne and Glen were the perfect hosts. The rooms were well equipped, warm and spacious and the breakfast was outstanding. 5* 👌

Step into heaven… Husband & I have been coming here for years and with good reason. Storrs Gate house offers true five-star standards in every respect, every time. You are guaranteed the best sleep of your life and the very best breakfast in all of England! The rooms, bathrooms and common areas are beautifully decorated, very clean, have a beautiful aroma and are extremely well appointed. The location couldn’t be better as a gatehouse to all the beautiful Lake District has to offer and is in walking distance or a short cab ride from Bowness-on-Windermere. What sets this beautiful guest house apart though is the consistently great, truly stunning owners. Susann and Glenn make their home and guest house a real go-to destination. Once you have been you won’t want to stay anywhere else! Their genuine, pleasant and amiable personalities truly radiate through the local community and you cannot help but be completely charmed. They make you feel so welcome and will do anything for you to make sure you have the very best stay. Susann and Glenn, thank you so much for your hospitality on this particular occasion, along with all the others. You provided an oasis of calm in the midst of our busy and stressful lives, and more happy memories.

Puddle Duck lodge is a darling guest house. I stayed in the Beatrix room and it had the most gorgeous view over the garden. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. Jenny and David were very welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. Breakfast was fresh and the homemade strawberry compote was delicious. Nice and close to the centre of Bowness, everywhere was a quick walk from Puddle Duck. The garden was stunning and I loved to sit there of an afternoon in the sun and read my book.

We were recommended the Puddle Duck Guest house by someone we met in one of the local pubs in Bowness. Just a week back now from our 3 night stay in the Beatrix Potter room and everything was just perfect! The owners are very friendly and you can tell they love what they do, so much little details in everything. This is a place you visit and remember for the rest of your life. It's either a labour of love or a very close approximation. The room was magnificent as was the breakfast idea employed here. The garden is a simply beautiful and the team were excellent. I can't find enough nice words to say. Thank you to our hosts for helping make our first wedding anniversary special.

Me and my partner have just got home after spending two nights at this Lodge and I felt the need to rush to leave a review. Our room was the Double Deluxe and was perfect, it’s about a 10minute walk to the lake and is a street away from the main road. When arriving after a long journey we were shown to our room by the lovely Jenny where there were two ice cold bottles of wine waiting for us (which we requested). There was a breakfast menu which had a variety of choice’s and information book in the room which answered any questions we might’ve had and told us about the lovely dog and cat that live there too, George and Nev. The garden was beautiful, the breakfast was amazing and given that this was our first trip as a couple it was certainly one to remember thanks to everyone at Puddle Duck Lodge. I recommend highly that you stay here, you will not regret it and as soon as you leave you’ll be itching to stay again.

Beautiful apartment in a great location. However, I think the check-in time of 4pm is a little late, especially with a check out time of 11am. Overall we still had a great stay!

We stayed in the Craig Walk suites over the Easter weekend. A short walk from the centre of Bowness. The room was amazing. We had the top suite. The finish on the room was fantastic. The bed was amazing and there was a copper bath in front of the tv, underfloor heating and a beautiful little kitchen area with all you would need for the weekend. The walk up the hill to park the car was a bit steep and anyone with any walking difficulties may find it a bit of a challenge. But what a beautiful suite and would highly recommend a stay there.

I can not fault this accommodation. It was a very last minute booking for business/pleasure so not expecting too much of comfort but very gladly surprised. Lovely room for 1, big bed in the eaves, very tidy bathroom, warm all night and lots of tea/coffee etc. Entry system was easy even in the dark! My 1 and only 1 suggestion is to have spot light entry when approaching the garden and up through to main entrance. 😉

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Beatrix Potter at the captivating World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in Bowness-on-Windermere. This interactive exhibit beautifully brings to life the beloved characters from her timeless children's books, offering a perfect family-friendly experience, especially on rainy days. Delve into the story of Potter's writing and her significant contribution to Lakeland conservation through engaging displays.
Do you enjoy the imaginary world created by the wonderful Beatrix Potter, or simply the famous Peter Rabbit? This is a great place to spend the day exploring an amazing curated environment in a busy town. Make sure you travel light and avoid bringing your buggy if possible as it does get rather tight spaced with the audience viewing but they do control no. Of people at a time as there is a 3min video at the start. Get the free activity book and find the answers with your children. There is also two cafe - one that offers coffee and cakes and painting, the other (across the road) is newly added which offers food also but closes early and can get rather busy.

A beautiful place, taking you back to childhood days, when you first heard the story of Peter Rabbit. The life size characters and decorations are breathtaking, making you feel like you're stepping right into one of the stories itself. The garden is stunning, looks just like in Beatrix's illustrations. Plenty of easter eggs to find there for those who look in the right places. The cafe was great as well, we stopped for a gluten free and vegan beetroot brownie and it was delicious. The only downside was, that I expected to see more original illustrations but I understand that the place is more for children rather than adults.
Joongie K — Google review
Such a beautifully curated attraction. We all loved it (adults) so beautifully done. It must have been such a joy to put to together, the modelling and art work was so clever. I loved going into the garden it looked just like the real garden at Hill Top (though smaller). The little boxes with Beatrix Potter figures in a mini tableau were exquisite. A must for all ages.

I’m in love! Totally worth a visit if you are a fan or in town with the kids. Lovely exhibition and enough activities to keep the kids entertained. Even if you’re not a fan it is worth a visit for their display! From an artistic perspective they did a marvelous job. Unfortunately for we visited quite late in the day so we only got to spend so much time inside. Would recommended the latest admission at 15:00 if you truly want to enjoy the full experience and get lost in the world of Beatrix Potter!
Meizhu C — Google review
Such a nostalgic place to visit as an adult (with no kids) who thoroughly enjoyed reading the books as a child. The exhibition is in great condition and it was lovely to have all the memories brought back. We thoroughly enjoyed stopping at the Peter Rabbit Café afterwards too!

This was one if the loveliest, cutest museums we have been too. The animations and displays were beautifully done, and took straight back to your childhood days. It was so informative and interactive for kids. Highly recommend a visit

Superb!! The highlight of our holiday. We started at the cafe across the road (well worth a visit) and then came here. It starts with a short film which my 2 year old enjoyed, and then the free-pace walk around was outstanding. Low stimulation great for toddlers, beautiful displays and garden really brings the books to life. We’ve told everyone about it as we enjoyed it so much. I hope this stays with my daughter as a childhood memory and hope we can come again in the future

This was so much more than we ever expected! We thought it would just be a quick one-hour visit since it’s quite a small area. But guess what — my girl spent almost three fun hours inside! The Wateredge Inn in Ambleside offers charming rooms, some with private entrances, within a relaxed lakeside pub featuring a vibrant restaurant. The inn is known for its dog-friendly environment, welcoming furry friends in designated indoor and outdoor areas with stunning views of Lake Windermere. Situated on over an acre of private grounds with a jetty overlooking the lake, it provides direct access to the shore for picturesque walks.
We stayed here for a night, on our first trip to the Lake District. The room was very unique, a much more interesting experience than your standard corporate hotel. I found the balcony and bathtub to be stand out features. We were in the building across the street, so not lake front. But you were able to park right outside your room making luggage easy to deal with. Food at the restaurant was good, and the bar was a nice place to spend time. You are a little bit outside of the town center, so it’s more quiet. It takes about 15 minutes to walk along the lake road to the town. The only real complaint we had was that the couch pull out bed was pretty uncomfortable for adults. So unless you are just putting kids in it, you might be better off just bringing an air mattress I would gladly stay here again.
Michael W — Google review
Lovely stay! Great location to explore Ambleside and surrounding area. Easy to get to, parking sorted at checking, plus you get free parking on the day you check out too! Room clean and comfortable. Ample and cozy decoration. Breakfast was brilliant, really good spread and relaxed setup with delicious cooked breakfast. The pub was a big plus!!! Lovely fish and chips and super fast service! Food arrived perfectly cooked and hot! Of course really good fish and chips, light batter and well cooked. Great stay, highly recommend!
Ligia S — Google review
We stayed here just for a night and have a very comfortable stay. They bed was just the right firmness, not too soft, not too hard, so we both managed to get a good nights rest. There are some amenities in the room such as tea and coffee making, although the room could really do with a mini fridge. We brought out plug in cool box to allow us to have cold drinks. The bathroom was small, although the shower pressure was good, and it was nice to see good quality soap and shampoo / shower gel. The breakfast was average. It's a buffet style and the quality of the food wasn't great, e.g. the hash browns were soggy and oily, the eggs were overdone, and whilst I like buttered mushrooms, these were on another scale of butteredness! We also found the staff weren't too attentive with us to begin with. The hotel is ideally located though, right next to the lake. It's really lovely to sit at, especially in the evening having a beer or two. Overall we had a lovely time, and would go back.

Stayed here for a couple of nights. The room was very comfortable, bathroom maybe a little small, very large, comfortable bed though. Breakfast was fine, help yourself buffet style. Lots of dog walkers here, so you have to not mind them. The hotel is ideally situated right next to the lake and there is also free parking for residents. We enjoyed our stay, and would recommend.

I just spent two nights here and it was fantastic! The room was spot on – massive bed, spotless, and those toiletries smelled amazing. The food / breakfast was delicious. The staff were lovely, making check-in a breeze and checking in on me during meals. I left feeling truly pampered and can't wait to come back! Amazing location with stunning views of Windermere
Kathryn O — Google review
The Wateredge Inn is the perfect location for a pint on a sunny afternoon. Nice decor, amazing views. However the staff seem to swan about aimlessly and they desperately need more staff on the bar as it can easily take 20+ minutes waiting for a pint. There is plenty of seating and if it is full good luck. It’s a victim of its own success.

Blackwell, located in Bowness-on-Windermere, is a stunning late-19th-century house designed by architect M H Baillie Scott. This Arts & Crafts gem showcases exquisite furniture and objects from the movement, including inglenook hearths, hand-carved oak and stone panelling, and Art Nouveau-stained glass. The property offers exhibitions, workshops, and events based on its collection as well as loans from public and private lenders.
Superbly presented Arts and Crafts house. Fantastic to be able to wander through the rooms and actually sit down in the corner nooks. Beautiful furniture, as well as the gorgeously designed interiors. Nice Tea Room, which does great cappucinos and food as well. Some choice craft items for sale in the shop. Very much recommended.

As a damp day on our first day in The Lakes we visited here as wasn't disappointed. A lovely interesting house which is well presented and organised. Great to sample life as it was when the wealthy family had it designed and built as a holiday home. Lovely views over the lake and a nice cafe.

What a place! It was only when looking for info about the Windermere Jetty Museum that we came across Blackwell on the Lakeland Arts website - not sure how we hadn't been before. An absolute gem, a real showcase for what the Arts & Crafts movement was about. We luckily arrived just at the start of a guided tour to introduce the house and its contents. And very nice cafe as well. This is a fantastic place and definitely not to be missed if you're in the area - and if you're not, it's worth travelling quite a way to get to it!

We stopped for a beer and a bit garlic bread on a lovely sunny afternoon. The town was packed and although this is only a couple of minutes off the beaten track it was quiet enough to get a bench outside. Visited the Royal Oak on the 1st July for a day trip, so we thought we would try the Royal Oak Pub. I have to say it was absolutely lovely, the atmosphere, the young girl (Hannah) was absolutely amazing, if it wasn't for her we wouldn't have even experienced the quality of the venue. The food was brilliant, an hidden gem!! She is an absolute asset to the business. I am a business man and Hannah is someone I would love to have working for me. Stumbled across this lovely pub after walking around Boness, found it on a side street away from the main roads and glad we did! We sat outside and had a lovely lunch. We didn’t stay here but had a lovely Sunday lunch. I had steak and ale pie and my husband had a roast lamb and both were delicious! Really cosy vibe with an open fire, dog friendly and the staff are really nice. Would recommend for sure!

Stayed for a couple of nights in Room 2. The bedroom was spacious, tastefully decorated and the bed was incredibly comfy. The bathroom is a little dated, but it is clean and a good size. There is customer parking at the pub. The spaces are a little small, but we were warned of that in advance and it wasn't a problem. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and just enough on the plate to set us up for the day. We also ate at the pub on our first evening and really enjoyed the home cooked meals, especially the meat and potato pie. Bowness can get quite noisy on a weekend. Being an old building, some of that noise can be heard in the room, but it didn't disturb us.

Just home from a lovely break in the Lake District. The Cuckoo Brow Inn was very welcoming and quaint. Shower had great pressure and was lovely and relaxing. We had a family room and space was ample. Good facilities tea, coffee and biscuits provided along with decaf also. Only slight down was radiator needs dusted. Breakfast was excellent, self serve continental and hot breakfast cooked to order with lots of variety. Loads of rabbits running about outside. Staff very welcoming and friendly

My wife and I recently stayed stayed at the Cuckoo Brow Inn, top class service. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you, nothing was any trouble. We stayed in room 7 and the room itself was great. powerful hot shower and a comfortable sleep. If I had to pick anything I would have preferred to be at the front of the building so we had more of a view, but this doesn't take anything away from our stay it's more a preference of I had a choice. The food was beautiful from breakfast to our evening meal and service was prompt. Over all a very enjoyable stay and I'm sure we will be back. Thank you to all the staff at the Cuckoo Brow and your hard work.

This family owned inn is just lovely. They are very personable and really care about their guests. The view was amazing from our room. The food is to die for. Their menu changes due to the season and we were quite satisfied with our meals. We ate there for dinner every day. We did forget to book, but we were able to get a table within 30 minutes. They had the best sticky toffee pudding, so moist and fluffy. And the breakfast is just the best. If you get a chance, stay here or just eat. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely fabulous Sunday lunch!! This was a return visit for us, albeit and good 7 or 8 years apart. The service was excellent and friendly and helped alleviate any worries my daughter had who's vegetarian (I'm not taking ownership of that decision). I did try the nut roast and I have to say was very good, I had the lamb shank however, and it was sublime, as were the vegetables and the yorkshire pub was massive. Safe to say we all enjoyed our lunch and my only regret is not taking a photo for the review. Easy to get to from Bowness via the cross lake ferry dropping you at Ash Landing and a 30 minute pleasant walk.

Stopped in with my family for lunch on a rainy day. Service and decor were good but the food ranged from mediocre (wild boar sausages and mash) to terrible (prawn salad, which seemed to have been reheated). Also, the ale I had did not seem to come from a well-kept keg. Could also do with some dedicated cycle parking (racks).

Nestled on the shores of Lake Windermere in the Lake District National Park, Cragwood Country House Hotel offers a refined Edwardian country house experience. The hotel features elegant rooms with modern amenities and en suite bathrooms. Guests can savor classic dining showcasing regional produce and enjoy acres of landscaped gardens with a private jetty extending into the lake.
This hotel has the perfect position and ambience. Truly beautiful view of Windermere. Lovely grounds to walk around or enjoy sunrise or sunset. Bedrooms very comfortable spotlessly clean bathrooms . Little touches nice. Staff cannot do enough. Nice food . Have had 2 nights of relaxation which has boosted my wellbeing and also my friend. We visited Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick.

We got married at the Cragwood on 24/05/25. This has to be one of the best locations to in the Lakes to get married! We went for the Windermere package, that includes a lake cruise which was fab! Although the weather turned on the day it really didn't matter as Hannah, Stacey and the whole team at the Cragwood made it the best day ever! The Cragwood is a country house hotel, which has character and had such a good atmosphere on the wedding day. The the Wedding breakfast was top notch, I've eaten at several Michelin star restaurants and this was better than a lot of those, the canapes were delicious as well! Having the whole place for the day and night makes it such a special occasion, the rooms were great as was the breakfast the next day. Again, thank you to everyone at the Cragwood! I recently had a delightful stay at Cragwood Country House. The room was clean and comfortable, providing a relaxing atmosphere throughout my visit. One of the highlights was the charming bar area, complete with a cozy fire that was always lit and well-maintained, adding to the warm and welcoming ambiance. The grounds were beautifully kept and added to the overall peaceful environment. Breakfast was enjoyable and offered good value for money, with a satisfying selection to start the day. The only minor drawback was the hotel’s remote location—it’s quite a distance from the nearest village, which makes walking into town a challenge. However, the surrounding beauty and tranquility more than made up for it. Overall, I had a lovely experience and would happily return.

Stunning location. We had our wedding here. Staff were excellent throughout. Rooms very comfortable with great views over the lake. Food was incredible. We will be back, highly recommend.

Me and my wife got married here a couple of weeks it was an amazing day and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. All staff were amazing the room was lovely and the food was to die for. On top of all this the view from the hotel is incredible and the garden area is full of colour and it’s beautiful. I would like to give a special thanks to a member of staff called Claire who worked in the catering area of the hotel she was absolutely amazing and catered to all of mine and my wife’s needs that lady deserves a raise she is fantastic at her job thanks so much!

I would like to start my review by saying that if I could give it 6 stars, I would. Far exceeded all my expectations in all aspects. I think it's tremendous value for money. We had a "micro-wedding" on the 14th of July, with Cragwood "micro-wedding" package for 20 people. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. I don't think I ever had an experience where the entire crew starting from the reception and bar staff to wedding planners and administrators were so nice. The photographer Tiree that the venue recommended was absolutely amazing, as well as the registrars. Humorous and professional, kept us at ease and made the ceremony feel warm and pleasant. Cragwood was very responsive and guided us all the way through even pre ceremony. Promptly answered all the questions, made great suggestions and have us plenty of options. And throughout the stay, everything was so well organised. It rained, so we had our ceremony inside, which was lovely, and they can make a decision an hour before where to have it. The room allocation for us and guests were such, that we booked out most of one of the hotel wings, so it felt as if we had the place exclusively to ourselves. All of the rooms very very nice, but the view from the bridal suite, and adjacent rooms was just incredible. Food was very tasty, especially rack of lamb that I had on the day of the ceremony. Package included breakfast, and two dinners - all was outstanding. We have also separately booked an afternoon tea on the ship, which was also amazing. We all loved it, and are looking forward to come back for an anniversary next year. For the week after we already had booked a mini-moon stay in a more expensive hotel in Keswick, but if I had known how much I will enjoy Cragwood we would have just booked it instead. The other place wasn't even close, especially considering the price. This is probably the longest review I have ever written, but these guys deserve it.

I had a genuinely appalling experience trying to arrange a wedding viewing at Cragwood Hotel on Tuesday morning. After multiple emails went unanswered, I called to follow up and was met with one of the rudest, most unprofessional interactions I’ve ever experienced. The woman who answered the phone didn’t greet me, didn’t confirm I was even speaking to Cragwood, and immediately snapped at me for calling “three times,” as though I’d done something wrong by simply trying to reach someone. She didn’t give me the chance to say who I was or why I was calling — I’d only said “hello” before being shut down. She later called me back, and when I calmly told her I didn’t appreciate how she had spoken to me, she AGREED it was rude but instead of apologising, she launched into a rant, blaming me for calling at check-out time and telling me she was “stressed”, as if I should have somehow known her schedule. I hadn’t even been able to say that I was following up on unanswered emails from the wedding team. She spoke over me, wouldn’t let me explain that I’d already emailed the wedding team, and acted as though I should have known not to call at that time — which is absurd. I’m not a mind reader. She treated me like a problem rather than a potential client. For all she knew, I could have been calling about a guest at the hotel or an emergency related to a guest, yet I was handled with zero professionalism or courtesy. Frankly, her behaviour was disgusting and it was made worse by the fact that she appeared to be dealing with other guests while speaking to me like that on the phone. I can’t imagine what impression that gave them either. This experience completely put me off the venue. I didn’t even get to speak to the wedding team properly, but every member of staff reflects the standards of a venue and this interaction was enough to confirm that Cragwood is absolutely not the right place for such an important event. If the staff treat people like this, it’s absolutely not worth your time or energy. Planning a wedding should be an exciting and respectful process, and this interaction was the exact opposite. I still haven’t received an email from the wedding team about this complaint, I have also rang multiple times to try and speak to a manager to put through a formal complaint and haven’t been able to do so because no one is answering the phone. I strongly advise others to think twice before considering this venue. The setting may be lovely, but no venue is worth being spoken to like that.

Windermere Lake Cruises offers a picturesque introduction to the region with various cruise options on Windermere, the area's most popular lake. You can choose from short 45-minute cruises or longer 3-hour cruises that cover different parts of the lake. Additionally, there is an option to purchase a 24-hour pass for multiple experiences. For those seeking privacy and flexibility, electric boat hire is available for exploring the lake at their own pace.
This was a great outing to see the attractions from the river side. You have the option of jumping on or off at various places and then taking another boat when you want to which gives you the ability to hop off and explore one place and then hop on to the next place. The staff were fantastic and there were many inside places on 2 decks so even if the weather is not good you can still go. There is a small bar where you can get beer, wine, hot chocolate and crisps and soft drinks. Well worth the trip!

Lovely ride on the boats today. Glorious weather. Two hours was £65 plus £60 deposit returned after we got back Only issue was the difficulty in getting in and out the boat, there’s no hand rail or mid step to get in and out. I hurt my hand getting back out of the boat and needed something cold to relieve my pain, I was telling my partner as we were in the reception area, a staff member did overhear but didn’t offer any help, yes I get there not liable for anything but even a cold compress would of helped at that point knowing I’d hurt myself getting off.

Booked this from seeing the poster at the Windermere pier and it didn't disappoint. We were a small group in our 30's and the other guests were generally a fair bit older. The boat is very spacious, not over booked and everyone gets a seat by the window. The buffet was surprisingly filling and the downstairs bar was well stocked. The staff were all very happy to be there and very professional. There was a brilliant female live singer doing various covers and by the end of the trip, half the boat was dancing around and belting out the tunes. Ended with a real feel good factor. Would make a perfect gift for parents and I do highly recommend this trip.

I was very disheartened to see so much plastic bottled water and other beverages sold on the ferries provided by Windermere Lake cruises. By 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish, and over 95% of the plastic that we intentionally try to recycle does not actually get recycled. Rather it ends up in landfills, incinerators, in our bodies via microplastics, and of course, in our parks and lakes. It feels unacceptable to normalize the sale and consumption of such a toxic material that wreaks havoc on ecosystems all over the world. Especially from a business that is profiting off tourism to this gorgeous ecosystem in the first place. This demonstrates immense cognitive dissonance. I appreciate that you have the ability to serve coffee and tea to customers on board with real mugs. To me, that shows that more as possible, when it comes to reducing the plastic that you sell and normalize. I hope you consider how to connect your customers to Windermere, as well as to the lake District at large. And blind consumption of plastic that degrades these very landmarks, is not the way to do so. We didn’t used to live this way, and we can’t afford to keep living this way. Consumption of plastics at this scale and at this rate is killing us.

We were visiting Windermere late June. It was Sunday and a beautiful day. We were 20 people and we decided to go on a 1 hour cruise in the afternoon. Luckily, we were able to buy tickets at the pier. We had a wonderful time and the scenery was spectacular. The boat has a snack bar and drinks that were reasonably priced.

Nestled in the serene embrace of nature, Briery Wood Country House Hotel is a charming retreat set within a stunning 19th-century property. Surrounded by seven acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and tranquil woodlands, this hotel offers an idyllic escape just a stone's throw from Lake Windermere. Guests can enjoy leisurely strolls to Long Wood Bay Watersports Centre or take a quick drive to the picturesque town of Ambleside.
We visited Briery Wood Country House for a wedding the last week-end in August. The hotel is set in secluded grounds. A wedding can be held outdoors ( inclement weather prevented the service being held out side the week-end we visited). We stayed two nights in a garden room. The room was clean, plenty of complimentary toiletries, teas biscuits and a coffee machine. We enjoyed an evening meal of feathered beef from the menu. Breakfast was cooked to order. A good selection, cereal, fresh fruit, toast, porridge, full English or eggs with salmon. The staff were welcoming and friendly..As the wedding day unfolded they were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble for them. A lovely atmosphere in the hotel made all the wedding guests have the best experience. A special day filled with wonderful memories.

Lovely hotel and friendly staff. After reading the reviews we were unsure about the hotel but it was absolutely lovely. The location was perfect. It was close to towns and you could see Windermere from our balcony. The hotel was clean and was completed to a high specification. Our room had lots of little extras such as a coffee machine, sweets, biscuits, and toiletries bag. The food was lovely and fresh and drinks were reasonably priced. The staff couldn’t do enough to accommodate you and we’re so friendly unhelpful there is lots of parking and there was even a wedding at the hotel during our stay. The cows and sheep were an added bonus. Totally recommended and we will be back.

The feel of the hotel is home from home we stayed in room 12 beautiful view of the garden and nicely decorated and good size room and very clean. The food is out of this world very tasty you can tell it’s good quality food and omg the afternoon tea you get loads and it’s delicious well worth getting it we couldn’t finish it so the staff kindly saved it for us until we were checking out. This hotel is very dog friendly they even give you a goody bag and a ball for your fury friend in your bedroom and get lots of fuss off the staff. Our wedding day was perfect the weather was kind to us and we managed to have the wedding outside the staff were brilliant looked after us they went above and beyond what we ever expected and made us feel very special. Went here on Bank Holiday Monday for one night. It was a gift off my daughter. We got there early unfortunately the room wasn't ready, but check-in was 3 pm. We came back at 2.30ish and got the key. The room was very clean, and there were a lot of drawers and wardrobe space. Tea / coffee machine with pods The bathroom had a walk-in shower plus a jacuzzi bath and plenty of room. Mirror had a light over it, too. We didn't eat at night and went into Ambleside by taxi. Came back early, but a word of warning, doors locked at 11pm with entrance by key code. The bed was comfortable The breakfast service was very good Overall the hotel was good

We stayed here for 3 nights, arriving Thursday around lunchtime. Check-in is from 2pm (as stated online), but I do wish there had been someone at reception – we had to call several numbers a few times before someone answered. We ended up getting changed in the ground floor toilets before heading out to hike. Aside from that, everything went smoothly. Our room on the second floor had a lovely view, was clean, bright, warm, and ensuite – a nice surprise with its own bathroom. Towels, shower gel, shampoo, and a tea/coffee setup with biscuits were all provided. The main downside was the hot water pressure – it was almost non-existent. Not sure if it’s to save water or make sure all guests get some, but the tiny drizzle made showers quite difficult. Breakfast started at 8:30, a bit late for us, but it was complimentary and quite good. We enjoyed the full English and veggie options the first two mornings, and the pancakes on the third day were especially delicious. The guest house was quiet, restful, and had plenty of parking – overall, a great stay. Give this place a 4.4⭐

Woodlands Hotel, Windermere – Honest Review The hotel is set in a fantastic location – just a 5-minute walk from Windermere village and around 20 minutes from Bowness. This meant everything we needed was within walking distance, so there was no need for taxis, which was a real bonus. The hotel itself is lovely, though it does feel a little worn in places. Our room was small but cosy, and while that wasn’t an issue for us, the lack of a safe was. Because of this, we chose to leave the Do Not Disturb sign on the door so the room wouldn’t be cleaned while we were out. Unfortunately, this was ignored, and our room was entered and cleaned anyway, which was frustrating – especially as my partner was worried about leaving her jewellery in the room. The bathroom was another downside. It was very dated, the shower door was broken, and the toilet flush was weak. These small but noticeable issues let the room down. Another detail was the bedroom door – it had no handle, meaning we had to slam it to shut it properly, which wasn’t ideal. That said, there were plenty of positives. The overall atmosphere of the hotel was warm and welcoming, and breakfast was a real highlight – one of the best we’ve had at a bed and breakfast. The quality and choice really stood out and made the mornings enjoyable. Overall, our stay was nice and we did enjoy ourselves. However, the lack of a safe, the bathroom maintenance issues, and a few small details (like the door) stop this from being a 4- or 5-star review. With some improvements, this hotel has the potential to be excellent.

Wonderful guest house in a great location for Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere. Very comfortable room with a very comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Delicious cooked breakfast, and a lovely cup of tea waited on by friendly, attentive staff. Much preferable to the self service buffet style ones that just look a mess once everyone has had their turn. We would definitely stay there again, highly recommended!
Caroline P — Google review
The location was excellent and breakfast was enjoyable, with a good variety to start the day. Unfortunately, the room itself was a major letdown. We stayed on the first floor and were kept awake by loud banging and constant squeaking from the floorboards above whenever guests walked around. The room had several maintenance issues — broken door handles and damaged cupboards, as shown in the photos. While the hotel manager did offer to move us to another room, this was only on our last day, and we had booked for just two nights, so it wasn’t a practical solution. Overall, while the staff were polite and the setting had potential, the room conditions really impacted our stay.
Dean J — Google review
This hotel is a lovely hotel situated in a nice area. The staff are friendly helpful the breakfast is wonderful however room17 is not very good because of the noise from the restaurant above but it is an old building and can it be helped? I was told the night would only affect us on the morning at breakfast time however this seems to be constant throughout the day till 10 o’clock at night That is why I have only put four stars for the room Besides that the rooms are immaculate
Paul A — Google review
Great location, quick 5 min walk to Windermere where you can access all restaurants and bars, decent breakfast and a clean room. Downside is that the rooms are dated, and can get very noisy as you can clearly hear the noise from upstairs room - so disturbed sleep. The doors do not auto lock, you have to manually lock them with a key which isn’t very convenient.
Shruthi C — Google review
Upon arrival at the appropriate check in time, there was no one at the front desk. We rang the bell as instructed by a note and waited until a young woman finally came in to ask us if we needed help. The young woman tried calling several numbers to get someone to check us in, but was unsuccessful, so she did it herself. We were given room #8. The room seemed small but clean and fairly quiet. We could hear people slamming doors at all hours, probably due to the odd lack of doornobs on the room doors. On site parking is a huge plus and the hotel is in a great area for walking to surrounding towns. The bed was very comfortable and clean. The bathroom was dated but functional, but had a very strong urine smell. The biggest problem and most serious health problem was the black mold issue that we found the next morning. After pulling back the curtains to turn the radiator on, the wallpaper under the window came loose from the wall to reveal a huge amount of black mold. It was obvious that it had been there for quite some time. Someone had taped the wallpaper back up at some point to try and cover up the problem. The issue didn't stop there as we discovered just as much if not more black mold in the shower on the ceiling. Upon leaving, we again tried to find someone to speak to about this serious health risk but we were unsuccessful. When we left our key at the desk, I picked up the managers business card. After writing an email to the manager and attaching pictures, I was never contacted about this issue. I do not recommend staying at this guest house.

Ambleside Townhouse is a charming B&B located in a Victorian villa that was once owned by Beatrix Potter's family. The contemporary rooms are well-priced and offer a light and modern ambiance while retaining the elegance of the original architecture. Situated just outside Ambleside's bustling town center, it provides easy access to Lake Windermere, with free parking available—a rarity in this area. The family-run establishment offers stylish en suite rooms and serves a delicious full English breakfast each morning.
Perfect location in ambleside. 15 minutes walk to the lake but right in the town centre. Gorgeous rooms, great service. Breakfast was lovely- menu for a cooked breakfast alongside a 'help yourself' continental

Easy late check-in process and clean & tidy room. The staff were considerate to turn on the light & heater in the room so we went back into warm & cozy room. There is not much view from the room compared to similar/lower price accommodations. We left our stuff in the room after check-out and none of the staff proactively called to inform us about this.

Clean rooms, good breakfast. Great location at the edge of Ambleside. The town center is walkable in 30 mins to an hour and is a charming, relatively quiet town in Lake District. The famous apple pie is a 5 minute walk so you can best the crowd easily in the morning. Best part about this place is on site parking. Really helpful.

Room was lovely, clean and well decorated We had a room at the back with a seating area outside which was nice. Breakfast... unfortunately we were let down in this department. Lack of organisatio it seemed, we we weren't told if it was self service for tea/coffee etc. We had to ask to order breakfast. Breakfast itself was a let down, produce seemed cheap and the the lady that was working was rushed off her feet bless her. They need more staff in my opinion when they are more guests. Due to the breakfast situation we wouldn't come back, but room was lovely

I would give it a no - star if I could. I’m deeply deeply disappointed by the experience I had with this supposed to be ‘wonderful’ accommodation Booked 2 rooms - 1 for my dogs to stay as they advertised ‘dog friendly’, tried to call so many times ahead but no one ever picked up the phone provided. Upon arrival, I was refused the stay as there wasn’t any ‘dog friendly’ rooms left, and Helen the manager blamed me for not reaching out before hand! Didn’t offer any sort of soliton and not willing to help, after some hard negotiations, she agreed to refund me the amount I booked minus third part admin fee if they sell the rooms, which later the more friendly and helpful front desk Tim confirmed that the room did sell to other guests. The next morning I went to double check, the waiting staff and another man in duty also promised me that I would receive the refund. What a complete lie! I’ve made numerous phone calls and left voicemails chasing the refund, I’ve heard nothing, nothing from Manager Helen! How can a someone who manages and works in the hospitality industry shows such unprofessionalism! It is beyond my comprehension! I’ve been still trying to call the property, yet no one answer ever the phone!

Ambleside Lake House is a charming B&B located near Lake Windermere, making it an ideal choice for hikers with its proximity to various walking trails. The individually decorated rooms offer unique settings and some even provide views of the lake. Guests can indulge in delicious full English breakfasts featuring fresh local produce. For those seeking simpler accommodations, there are traditional B&Bs and guest houses nearby, as well as self-catered options like private cottages or Airbnbs.
We have just returned from staying here for my husband’s 40th birthday. We were in room 58 and it was beautiful. Lovely views of the lake, spacious and nicely decorated. The staff at the waterhead inn were all lovely, warm and welcoming. One of the waiters even sat down to play rock paper scissors with our daughter. I really felt they went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. The gentleman that checked us in was lovely too and always on hand to make sure we were happy. Breakfast was great, good selection for cold and hot breakfast. We liked the option to skip a room service for a free round of drinks. That was a good touch. I know other reviews stated about it being difficult to cross the road to get to where breakfast was served. I have to say we didn’t find this an issue and was not waiting long to cross. The location was fantastic given that we could get the boat opposite where we were staying and it was a short walk into Ambleside. A fantastic stay and we would stay again. Rooms were very clean too.

Stayed in the Lakehouse on a Saturday. The room was one of the Amex rooms which is basically a bedsit charged at £190 which quite frankly is outrageous. The shower was lukewarm/cold at all times of the day and you can hear the people above you. Depsite the room the breakfast was really nice in the morning and the staff were all really helpful.

I recently stayed at Ambleside Lake House for one night with a friend and had a lovely experience. The location is peaceful, the building well-presented, and while it’s separate from the main hotel, it still felt warm and welcoming. The room was spotless and the shower was excellent — powerful and consistent, which is something I’ve often found lacking in other hotels. Everything was clean, fresh, and well-maintained. I had booked what I believed was a twin room via Booking.com, but was given a double on arrival. Unfortunately, they were fully booked so no switch was possible. I was told that room preferences are best confirmed directly with the property before arrival — something I’ll make sure to do next time. Overall, despite the minor room mix-up, the staff were friendly and helpful, the facilities were great, and it made for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. I’d be happy to return and would recommend it to anyone visiting Ambleside.

We arrived in our room and housekeeping had not changed or cleaned room since previous guests had left. We informed reception who gave a another room, free upgrade, but the room was so hot. Sausage at breakfast was inedible by both of us due to the taste?

Lovely place to stay centrally located. Beautiful gardens next time well ask for a to floor with a view of the lake!! Very helpful staff we came late to breakfast and they let us in. !! Tysm

Beautiful, comfortable room with a lovely view of the garden area (+ Smart TV :-D). It also had plenty of usb and plug sockets. Had a bit of a problem with the booking, but the hotel was very graceful in sorting this out to our advantage. The breakfast offers a large and varied selection of options to help yourself to.

We've stayed in the main hotel a few times and loved it,this time we decided to stay in the Lake House,it was spotlessly clean and the view from our window was amazing.
Paul B — Google review
You have to check in in a pub on the other side of the road! If your room number is higher than 65 you're not in the Victorian building, but in a weird lot of side buildings that have lower value rooms. The room and description of the room didn't match what we got at all. Our rooms didn't have A SINGLE WINDOW other than a full glass door with flanking blinds. Yes, you read that right. No windows, just a door that looked out on a small parking lot. If we wanted some air we had to open the door. There was an old Victorian house but our rooms were NOT in it. At this price point a motel experience isn't what you're expecting. Have a look at the picture of the room, that's the emergency lighting that you can't switch off and you're sleeping right next to it. You also have to cross a very busy road to get to your breakfast, that was a bit weird too. I could go on ... finding the room was a pain too. Anyways, if the staff wasn't that great I would have complained right then and there but we didn't want that kind of negativity on our holiday. The staff was wonderful, loved the location in the region and the breakfasts. We had a great time in the pub and got excellent tips from Liz.

The Victorian House, located in Grasmere, is a charming guest house that offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The owner's attention to detail is evident in the smartly decorated bedrooms, which feature vintage Victorian furnishings in mossy green shades. Guests appreciate the unrivaled location of the hotel, allowing for easy access to local walks and nearby dining options. The staff are friendly and attentive, creating a welcoming vibe that makes guests feel at home.
Gem of a find. Room was comfy and spacious. Breakfast very good. All the staff were very friendly and helped in anyway they could. Special thanks to Alex who sorted us out an extra night in the same room and as the weather was so good also provided us with lots of information. Nice touch was the complimentary lemon drizzle cake in reception. Garden by the river lovely to sit in and have a drink. If you have a bus pass take it as the bus picks you up just outside it's free and frequent. Saves driving and finding somewhere to park. Use it like a hop on hop off. Goes all over. Will definitely be going back.

It was our first time in Grasmere and we had a nice, relaxing stay at the Victorian. The bed was comfy (albeit a bit soft) the family room was roomy and the bathroom was also a good size. We had plenty of storage in the closet and dresser. The breakfast was very nice, especially the coffee🤓. Sam and Alex and the rest of the staff were friendly, helpful and nice to talk to.

Great hotel in the lovely Grasmere. Really lovely staff. The room was ever so slightly too hot, and the bathroom would benefit from an extra shelf or two to be able to pop your things down, but overall a great place. Really good breakfast the next day. Great location too.
Anne-Marie P — Google review
Very good stay here with excellent staff and breakfast. Location was perfect. Only issue was lack of free parking - nearby carpark charges £9/24 hours. The room also had a white pull down blind meaning it was flooded with light in the early morning around 7am, so lighter sleepers would easily wake earlier than anticipated. Also, these blinds mean that the rooms get extremely humid in early Spring with the sun pouring in. Easy fix - please replace with blackout curtains and add air con/fans. 4.5/5 overall.

Stayed due to a surprise inset day before we moved into a holiday let in Ambleside for the week. Lovely B&B in fabulous location (with parking) with genuinely the best welcome from staff we have ever received (thank you Agatha). Fresh cake made to welcome guests and a nice little tour to our room. All the staff were so kind to our 8 year old daughter. The room (6) was large and comfortable (although surprisingly hot in the night - but the air conditioning unit sorted that). Shampoo and conditioner provided. Water in the room was a nice touch. Tea and coffee and biscuits too. My only gripe was that when we had morning showers there was no hot water so we had very cold showers which was a huge shame as the shower itself had great pressure. The breakfast was very nice in a nice setting - lots of choice and it all felt very carefully made/considered (homemade flapjacks, yoghurt bowls, the scrambled eggs were just right etc). All the staff were brilliant. Thank you!

We stayed in the lovely shepherds hut attached to the hotel - this was a gift from our children for my husband's birthday, and it was absolutely beautiful. The staff had left balloons, chocolates, a card and Banner for him which was so thoughtful, and the hut itself was luxurious and cosy inside, and situated by a peaceful little river. The staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was delicious, and set us up for a fabulous few days in the lakes. Can't recommend it enough!

Lovely little hotel. The room was spacious, we even got a free upgrade to a super king bedroom! The breakfast was superb with a good choice and even our little dog got a sausage for his breakfast! Cannot recommend highly enough. We will be back.

Nestled in the heart of Windermere, Bowness Bay Suites offers a charming retreat with stunning views of the bay. This adults-only bed and breakfast features stylish suites equipped with electric fireplaces, creating a cozy atmosphere for relaxation. Guests rave about the warm hospitality from the staff, who go above and beyond to ensure a stress-free experience. The beautifully decorated rooms are not only immaculate but also provide breathtaking views from private balconies.
The room was beautifully decorated, immaculately clean, and even on the ground floor had a gorgeous view from the balcony. The hosts were friendly and welcoming, and there was even a picnic basket with crockery and cutlery for us to use. The location couldn’t be better, right next to the main part of Bowness. We also got a parking permit from them for £6 a day, but could park outside to load the car which was very convenient. Everything was wonderful and we’ll definitely stay again 🤍

Bowness Bay Suites is an absolute gem of a place, the rooms are much bigger and more beautiful than they look on the pictures. We booked to stay for 2 nights in Cat Bells Suite, this is on the top floor and has a great view of the lake without being too close, the bed is very comfy too which is needed after a day walking. The location is great, just 5 minutes from the lake and down the road from shops and restaurants but despite being so close it's really quiet in the room. We opted to get a parking permit and were able to collect it on arrival to Bowness prior to check in which was great. The car park is a 4-5 minute walk from the hotel and we stopped outside to pick the parking permit up before heading to the car park. Everyone who we spoke to via messages and in person was very helpful. We will definitely stay again when visiting the Lake District.

Room was tastefully decorated, well equipped. Particularly liked having fresh milk in the fridge for the tea and coffee facilities, views over the lakes were beautiful. Hosts were lovely, friendly and so accommodating, having stayed in other boutique hotels in the area these gentlemen give them a run for their money. We will be back late summer. Thanks for making 50th birthday celebrations memorable

Stayed in Cat Bells suite, right at the top of the house. Runs front to back so one window looks down the street and opening French doors overlook the lake. Well appointed room and very clean throughout. The two managers are friendly and helpful, ready to chat and give suggestions to help your stay. We came for a one-night birthday treat and would happily come back for a longer stay.

Great stay at Bowness Bay Suites. I stayed in the top (2nd) floor (no lift but not many stairs). View of the lake was wonderful, you can sit in front of a juliet balcony and look at the lake. Nice big rooms, with comfy bed. You can't park right by the property, but it's easy to drop stuff and park a few mins away.Location is perfect, it's easy to walk everywhere. I would defo recommend and I will be staying here again. Thanks James.

By far the best guest house I've stayed at in Windermere! Absolutely immaculate rooms. Comfy beds!!! Breakfast was so tasty, and finally, the hosts Julie and Russ were very accommodating. We can't wait to go back again in the near future. Loved every min of the stay x

We’ve just had a very enjoyable two night stay at this guest house . Both owners were very welcoming on arrival . We parked the car at the allocated parking bays for this guest house with no issues . On first impression this guest house is bright well presented and immaculate. Rooms were spotless and had everything we needed for our stay . The breakfast was locally sourced and delicious. You do pay extra for the breakfast but well worth it and won’t leave the table hungry . Nothing was too much trouble and we will definitely be back . Kind regards Gregg , Claire & Brendan

Laurel Cottage is a charming bed and breakfast located in a historic 16th-century building that used to be a school. The B&B retains its period features and offers modern amenities such as free Wi-Fi and parking. Situated just one minute away from Bowness Bay, it provides easy access to Lake Windermere, which is only a short walk away. Each bedroom at Laurel Cottage showcases its own unique style with either Victorian or Cottage-inspired decoration.
We arrived here today after a long travel and requested to make our room a bit special because it is our honeymoon. When we arrived they decorated the place with rose petals and a bottle of bubbly!! The room is neat and the location is very excellent. First class service and would definitely like to stay here again. 🥰 Thank you so much for this wonderful surprise.

Laurel Cottage is in an ideal location for everything, shops, copious amounts of cafes and restaurants and a brilliant bus service to everywhere. There is no parking but that wasn't a problem. My husband and I did find that if you're a light sleeper, it might be best not to book a room at the front of the property. The staff were brilliant and I'm going again with a friend in September 😊
Elizabeth J — Google review
We stayed here for 2 nights recently. The cottage has ample rooms. Some of the decor needs attending to. The room was quiet n fitted with the essentials with nice decor. Unfortunately for me, I am a giant of a man and the shower was too snug as was the location of the toilet. We travelled by car but the availability of parking is extremely limited and can be a nervous attempt of reversing out if parked in the lane at the rear. Sleeping was peaceful and comfortable. Breakfast was presented and cooked beautifully. Service was very good and nothing too much trouble. The location of the cottage is perfect for getting about Bowness with being in the centre of the town. Would I recommend, yes I definitely would as I'm sure in time the small decor issues would be addressed.
Brian M — Google review
The location of the accommodation was ideal and the host seemed very kind and friendly. Unfortunately for the price paid there was no parking, the breakfast seemed substandard on the first morning (sausages like bullets, mushrooms shrivelled) and the room was pretty basic - needed a good refurbishment. There was a big stain on the side of the bed and mould blots on the bathroom ceiling. Looking at previous reviews and photos it’s quite disappointing to see the variation in quality that could easily be remedied.
Naomi S — Google review
Fantastic stay, warm welcome from the host and she mentioned she had given us a bigger room which is always nice! The room was very clean and tidy, and had a nice view of the forests. The road was a bit noisy outside but with the windows closed you could barely hear anything and it was just a busy day anyway. Breakfast was really lovely, there was the option for a full English or various eggs on toast, and cereal, yogurt and fruit to start. Coffee was freshly made and you could help yourself. Overall, nothing seemed too much trouble and we will definitely book again!

Lovely place. We had room 18. The bed was really comfy, it was quiet and the breakfast was great. Check in was really easy, we called before hand as we weren't getting there til late. It's right in the centre, easy walk to the lakes, bars and restaurants. Had a gorgeous stay
Rhiannon H — Google review
The guest house is really well located right in the heart of the town close to all restaurants, bars and shops. Room rates are very reasonable for the area and the couple that run are very warm and welcoming. The only downsides to our stay was our room didn't seem to be level. Even the bed seemed to lean back. The windows were the old fashioned pull up pull down ones, and not very soundproofed from all the late night revellers. The bathroom has electric plumbing as in, toilet flushes, running the traps or having a shower envoked an electric motor to drain the water. But this was not a problem for me. Breakfasts were always HOT not just warm like some places and very filling if you had the full English. Wonderful stay in a wonderful town.

Nestled in the picturesque Rydal Valley, Crow How Country Guest House is a delightful B&B housed in a charming Victorian stone farmhouse that dates back to 1848. This serene retreat offers stunning countryside views and is just half a mile from the vibrant town of Ambleside. With nine uniquely styled bedrooms, guests can choose from cozy standard rooms to luxurious options featuring roll-top baths and four-poster beds.
Staff were really friendly and helpful. Place was clean and our room was spacious. Breakfast was simple and we were well catered for. We were able to park on the morning of check-in, so we could go for a wander and then check-in later. Same applied for the day of check-out. Hotel is hidden away and private, so quiet and relaxed - an easy 15 minute walk from Ambleside and it's various amenities.

Just stayed 3 nights here and the place is great. Set back off the main road so is lovely and quiet. Own and staff are friendly and polite . There is a lounge and breakfast room on the ground next to the reception desk. My room was lovely and very spacious with a large bathroom with shower and jacuzzi bath with his and hers sinks with a small lobby between bedroom and bathroom. All three areas where lovely and warm from heating. The bedroom was nicely decorated and furnished with a large wardrobe and chest of draws and a small table and two chairs in the bay window. Room came with large tv, tea, coffee, kettle and small fridge. Breakfast has a good menu with a good variety to choose from was lovely. The guest house is a nice 10 minute walk into Ambleside. I will definitely be going back and would recommend to give it a try.

Lovely hotel, Great hosts. Breakfast was superb & rooms were clean & spacious. Situated in a great location for exploring the lakes, with Ambleside just a short walk down the road, Rydal Water, Caves and Rydal Hall a short walk up road. The bus stop is only 5 minutes away going to Keswick, Kendal, Bowness on Windermere. This enabled us to park the car up and leave it for the duration of our stay. Perfect location highly recommend.

A sort walk in to Ambleside makes this a perfect location. Beautiful views, amazing room with a 4 poster bed and ornate free standing bath was great. Very quiet setting and massive bed with decent mattress so slept really well.

Stayed for a weekend with my fiancée for our anniversary and had a lovely time. We stayed in Room 1. The room is as advertised and was really good. It was quite, comfortable and clean. The breakfast had a good selection and was tasty each day. The B&B is an easy and short walk from town along Rydal road. So walking into town to shop or for a evening meal/drink isn't a problem. There is a good quality footpath beside Rydal Road and it has street lights along it. So no problem walking back in the evening in the dark. There is load of nice shops in Ambleside and plenty of places to choose to eat and want something to eat. Staff were nice, helpful and professional. The Fairfield horseshoe loop is a lovely walk, as we've done it before. But if you want a more relaxed time like we did. The Windermere Lake Cruises is a good choice. We had a lovely day on the lake and exploring Ambleside and Bowness. The attached pictures are from Stickle Tarn, Langdale and Harrison Stickle on the 06/04/2025

Spent three nights here and it was a most enjoyable experience. They accommodated our rather late arrival time and Andrew even turned up the heat to help us Southerners adjust! The room was clean and tidy and very comfortable beds. Breakfast is included and served in a very traditional dining room with table service ... this was a very nice touch and the food was wonderful, everything from freshly made porridge to poached eggs with salmon, and large portions. This really sets you up for a day out exploring. I can highly recommend Crow How.

Hazeldene Guest House is a charming lakeside accommodation in the heart of Bowness-on-Windermere. The traditional guestrooms offer a cozy stay, and guests can enjoy a locally sourced full English breakfast each morning. The property provides free private parking and is conveniently located just a 10-minute walk from Lake Windermere. Guests appreciate the central location near local amenities, as well as the helpfulness of hosts Sam and Steve.
I spend a good amount of time traveling for work and I get to stay in some lovely accommodation. I can now add the Hazeldene to that list. The room was a good size with a comfy bed, 2 chairs and little table, tea and coffee making facilities and views of lake Windermere. The bathroom was spacious and clean. Just a short walk down hill gets you right into the center of town with amble amounts of restaurants and shops on the way. Steve and Samantha were lovely hosts. They have great knowledge of the local area. The breakfast was good. Meat and eggs all locally sourced and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend this B&B

I strongly recommend staying here when visiting Lake Windermere. Samantha and Steve are super friendly hosts that are ever so welcoming and happy to cater where possible. Lovely spacious rooms and comfy bed, with a great selection of teas, coffees and hot chocolates available. The breakfast is very delicious, using local produce and suppliers for a homely cooked Full English. The location is fantastic, with Bowness centre only a short walk away, and if you don't want to venture far, there are some really nice restaurants literally a couple hundred feet away.

A proper old-fashioned B&B with warm, welcoming, and accommodating hosts, comfortable rooms, and a gorgeous breakfast. About ten minutes' walk from the lake front, close to restaurants and shops but far enough out to avoid the crowds. Be advised the steps let out right onto the street, so use the pavement on the other side and cross when necessary. Would happily stay again!

Fantastic place to stay, the pictures don't do it justice. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable of the area. The breakfast is delicious with most things being locally sourced. The room was clean and spacious, with lots of little extras to make the stay as comfortable as possible. It was an ideal location just a short walk to everything in bowness. I would definitely recommend to anyone to book it. Only a small note would be that the curtains let a little too much light in would be great to have a black out curtain.

Claife Heights offers a picturesque escape into beautiful woodland for a relaxing Lake District walk, with stunning views of Windermere. The route includes a ferry trip across the lake and is about six miles long, taking around two hours to complete. Claife Viewing Station, built in the 1790s, provides an opportunity to frame the view of Windermere through its purpose-built windows with colored glass that creates unique visual effects.
We had a lovely springtime walk on a sunny day up here. The hills here are relatively gentle and manageable even with children, paths are well marked and clear (though not suitable for buggies etc). There are some picturesque tarns and beautiful views within easy reach and numerous options for a circular walk taking in forested areas, hills and moorland. We did a circular route starting at the lovely Cuckoo Brow Inn, up towards the forest around Latterbarrow and back along the ridge just above Windermere. It was about 11km and 4hrs.

Beautiful scenery on way up. Not a crowded route. Sadly you can't see lake Windermere from the summit but still worth the hike.

Good place to get away from the crowds in the summer without much effort and great views. Great for getting out on the Mountain Bike as there are some good bridleways and challenging trails to be found. also can easily be linked in with a days ride around Grizedale Forest. The cafe at the courtyard is a good place to stop for a brew. if you fancy something stronger the Cuckoo Brow inn is a great place for a pint
