We booked our trip at the Nantucket Inn on Nantucket, and Anchor Inn on Cape Cod, these two places beautiful and cheaper than the Hotel Salem; so, we were expecting the Hotel Salem to be something special, considering it's price was more than even the beautiful places we had booked elsewhere on the trip. However, in the shower there was a massive wad of hair on the wall at mid level. The noise outside our room was so loud at night, we booked the King Suite. We could hear loud dishes from the restaurant on the other side of our wall constantly, and a large dumpster was right outside our window which seemed to be in constant use in the late evening hours. The room was... well, not worth what we spent. The only saving grace was that the Hotel staff was exceptional. Very friendly and always there to answer questions and give tips for places to visit. I believe it is the duty of every hotel's ownership to ensure that a guest's stay go as expected to the prices charged for a room, and that a guest shouldn't be burdened with having to make complaints for satisfactory accommodations. This review is to help improve the Hotel Salem so that future guests get their money's worth when they book here; which is, a clean room, with low noise level, and honesty in online room descriptions about where their room is located, like the King Suite being right up against a dumpster and shared, loud, restaurant wall. We thoroughly enjoyed touring the city, but wish our stay at the Hotel Salem had been better.

My very first time visiting Salem and the price and location were enough to book it. Wife and I only booked the 1 night but after we realized it was the best spot in Salem and the room was good - we went ahead and booked 3 additional nights immediately! Staff were more than pleasant and helpful no matter who we spoke to. The Roof restaraunt and bar was a welcomed surprise we didn't know about until our first night. Decent food and even better drinks with a great view! Even though this Hotel is located in the heart of what makes Salem such a special place to visit, the people touring the area along with the rooftop festivities made no difference on how wonderfully Quiet each night of sleep was!! This must be the Have to Hotel to stay at for anyone who's wanting to have the Salem experience immediately at the front door!!! Thank you to everyone at the Hotel we got to meet and chat with! The location was easy to find. The inn is conveniently located to near everything that most would like to experience in Salem. Right around the corner of Essex St. Everything is in walking distance for downtown. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We brought our pup and when we arrived he had his own little bed with a bowl and treats. The room was very clean. Breakfast was delicious. There is no elevator, but there is a dumb waiter to help get your things to your floor. There is no parking at the main building (there may be some free parking available right out front), but they do have lots that you are able to park and not worry about having to move your car. If you arrive early and are not able to go to your room right away, they will allow you to unload your car and place your things inside so you can park your car. We hope to be back again soon!

The resident inn keeper Suzanne was warm, friendly and very willing to share local knowledge and lore. All of the staff were quite friendly and very willing to share their perspectives on their favorite local spots and that was extremely helpful. The inn itself is quaint and old, but our room was spacious, well appointed and the bathroom was clean and upto date (roomy shower too). The location is in a quieter section, but a three minute walk puts you in the heart of Essex St and its an easy walk to resturants, shops and attractions. My go-to spot for a visit to Salem for certain!

Its location right at the end of Essex Street and just 5 minutes walking from the water meant we rarely had to catch rides unless we wanted to venture out far from downtown. The roaring 20's aesthetic and historic info plastered around the lobby was fun to read, and the food was always amazing, though fair warning the portions are all shareable (especially the sundae served in a mixing bowl and cheese plate appetizer that includes 4 whole blocks of cheese, an entire baguette, and piles of fruit). The staff were also all super nice, especially the bartender. Our room was tiny and adorable, with the famous "shower closet" being a fun perk every morning. I highly recommend getting a room early as even in September it got booked quick (both by tourists and hosting weddings and corporate events). We will definitely be staying there again!

The walk to Essex street was a little further than I thought but Ubers are plentiful and inexpensive if you don't feel like walking. We were able to park and walk everywhere we wanted to visit and Bob was there to offer suggestions of places we may not of known about or thought of. The rooms were comfy and clean. The staff really drove the 5 stars. The lady behind desk was friendly and helpful answering my questions. Rooms yes they may be a little dated but they are super clean and well stocked on what you may be in need of. The CUTEST room (it was very small) but perfect for what we needed and the patio was a huge perk. We enjoyed the evenings outside stargazing, morning sunrises and were able to keep the door open entirely throughout the night for a comfortable cool breeze (it has a screen door). The Inn itself is adorable, clean, and well maintained. Staff was so kind and they surprised us with sweet treats and a thoughtful note congratulating us on our anniversary (thank you!). The area is so quaint and cozy by the water. We loved being able to walk around Marblehead and not worry about driving the entire time. The complimentary breakfast was so good and varied with options. I must add that we didn't see anyone else at the Inn unless we wanted to! Complete privacy. Huge bonus! And a kitchenette for guests 24/7 for late night (or anytime) coffee/snack. Highly recommend staying here for a trip back to a simpler time, with all the modern amenities.

They are spacious, comfortable and well maintained, and housekeeping is fantastic. One of us stayed in the loft (which was roomier than I expected from pictures), and 2 of us in the bed. Yes the rooms are very small, but it states that on the site. The whole place was VERY clean, which is the most important thing for me as a germaphobe! The lobby has a fridge to keep any foods you may have, which I did use once. The fridge was very clean, only 1 other item in there. There was complimentary coffe and hot cocoa with a keurig and another machine for water and sparkling water! Again, very clean. Clean linens and towels. The only thing that was a little uncomfortable was the bathroom, due to the doors not providing full privacy. Was not a big deal, we were all comfortable but if you were going with a friend or family member you’re not as comfortable with it, you may feel some type of way. BUT with that said, they also have a lobby bathroom that was spacious and also very clean. But could only open that door with a key card, not your electronic card. I thought there was just a fan running the whole time. 😅 This also seemed to be a safe and cute area, very close to the train station and Salem! I found this place by chance just messing with google maps and decided to take a chance on it. HOLY COW was that a great choice. This place is so fun, clean, quiet, beds are insanely comfortable, staff were so friendly. The restaurants are great, the bakery’s (Bonny Breads) was our favorite! We are in our very early 40’s and love adventure. This place was the perfect mix of quiet small town and city comforts. Train to Boston or Salem is only an easy 1/2 mile walk. I can’t say enough about how amazing we found this great lodge to be. Bedrooms are small, sure, but for us that like to adventure in the day and just chill in bed at night this was no problem. We had the pleasure of staying in two different rooms to get the full experience. Room 106 with a queen and loft bed and then Room 111 with a king. Both were great, but the little extra space in 111 was nice. This is niche and different, but in the best of ways. We will always remember this amazing place and if life ever brings us back to the area this will be the only choice worth considering. Loved it!

Cons: they don’t automatically refresh the room every afternoon, the bedroom and bathroom door handles are tricky and feel like they’ll fall off, breakfast is always a yogurt fruit parfait (I had moldy blueberry and blackberry) and dry grocery store muffins, one of the two front desk ladies always has a sour personality and interactions, it sounds like the toilet bowl is always draining and filling if any bathroom in the building showers/flushes, the mattress is hard as a rock and will hurt to wake up from. The Pros are great and the cons are something you accept when you choose an older/historic building to stay in.

The space was impeccably clean and offered everything we would need for our stay. The modern full kitchen with farmers sink and large center island offered more than enough space. Historic New England theme was carried into the living room with wood beam ceiling and beautiful décor. The bedroom was spacious with a comfy queen-sized bed, hand carved end tables and ornate vanity. The morning welcomed us with delicious coffee, muffins and bagels. I highly recommend The Daniel’s House for a weekend getaway or a romantic night out.
