This is a relatively cheap & basic hostel. It is fine for a 1 night stop, but would not recommend any longer. The beds are basic but work/practical. This was a great stay for me in Helsinki! I was very happy to find it and the price! For a hostel, I was expecting to be in a room with 6-10 people but it was only 2! Very clean and warm! A couple of market stores within a 5-7min walk. Staff were helpful. The quality sauna was a big plus! And a very sustainability conscious operation!

It isn’t far from train station we could walk or take tram to hostel, they provided kitchen and equipment for cooking that's good also provided sauna that free on morning if you take sauna on evening it isn't free cost around 7-8 euro/person recommend take on morning that better. Toilet clean even it's shared bathroom. Recommend for short stay.

Great hostel to stay in - central but not into loud of an area. Decent sized kitchen area and common room. Beds are comfy and there is plenty of storage (in lockers and the beds themselves). Boards in the common space with an overview of events happening in the area that week which was great. Only three showers in the hostel so there is sometimes queues. Also the hostel has a now shoes policy so make sure to bring slippers/flip flops. There is a basket of plastic sliders if you want to use them.

The good thing about this hostel is that I only had two nights there. It was constantly very dark inside, even during the day. Those cosy pictures made with wide angle lens on the website are far from reality.
The windows faced a construction site. Toilets and showers were tiny and smelled like something is rotting there. The lights were so dimmed that it gave basement vibe. The mattress and pillow had stains.
Generally there was little room to place your items comfortably- there were the boxes beneath the bed and to pick up your things you have to drag them out each time and they were very heavy. In the shower and toilet there was zero place to put your stuff or clothes.
There was no one at the desk in the morning or evening, if something were to happen there is nobody there to help. The location is central, sure, but otherwise definitely not “the best hostel in Helsinki” as advertised.

Helsinki has many places to stay in. However, this hostel takes the top spot for an one-night stay.
The location, which is the most attractive aspect - near the Suomenlinna fortress. Staying here was a dream come true experience. Rooms were very clean, quiet and our room offered a sea view. Moreover, the staff is very helpful both during the delicious breakfast and during the arrival. The code did not work the first time but the staff on the support line helped us get to the hostel successfully.

The Suomenlinna ferry runs every 20min. The price of the ticket is included in the AB ticket price. The hotel staff are friendly and the food was of high quality. Rooms are standard hostel quality about 8 people per room. Sheets and towels were clean, and facilities seemed to be maintained regularly. Bathrooms could be better overall. The location is the biggest selling point here, there are amazing 360 scenic views a few steps away. In the evening, when the tourists stop arriving in large numbers, you feel a sense of tranquillity on the island. This would be a perfect place to write a book or something.

Clean, peaceful simple hostel located on suomenlina island. Rooms were very basic with everything you need, curtains could be added for extra privacy. Helpful staff. Kitchen was rather small with limited storage space and cooking utensils. Only 2 showers for each gender which could be increased due to large number of guests. I visited during winter, so no breakfast was provided, but I received free filter coffee every morning which was a nice touch. Towels provided would also be a nice addition. The island itself was beautiful but taking the ferry in Central Helsinki was more challenging than expected with tickets being expensive and ferry's not being very frequent (every 30 mins or so), but a very peaceful environment with things to so (museam, shops, cafe, grocery store). Very basic but perfectly functional. I felt very safe the whole time.

I stayed here for 6 nights in September 2025, and am pleased that I chose this hostel. It's very conveniently located - it's walking distance from the central train station, main shopping area, Kamppi shopping centre (for coaches to Porvoo), multiple tram stops (for getting to the harbour for a day trip to Tallinn), and multiple supermarkets.
The reception is staffed 24/7, so I was able to check in after midnight following my late night flight. The hostel was very clean and tidy - the staff did a good job of keeping the kitchens and bathrooms clean at all times. The staff were also friendly and welcoming, and they kindly offered to store my bags after check out.
This isn't a party hostel, but it is perfect for people who want a quiet and comfortable place to relax after a day of sightseeing. People generally weren't very talkative in the kitchen, but I met some nice people in the dormitory.
Compared to other places in Helsinki, I think the price of my stay was very fair given the standard of the accommodation, and I would definitely stay here again!

I understand that Helsinki is expensive so if you have no money and this is the only option… it’s fine. Otherwise I do suggest to invest some more euros. The ppl working there are nice and polite but the room is so incredibly small and crammed you can barely stand in there. We were 6 ppl, no space to do anything and anybody doing anything will disturb your sleep/rest. Did not help that my companions came back at different times between 2 and 4 am turning on lights, leaving doors open on the communal room (where ppl were talking loudly in spite of quiet hours). Also no bed curtains so no repair from light, no privacy. No curtains at the window so at 4 the Finnish sunrise started shining through and at 4:30 it was complete daylight. A bit of consideration for non Nordic people and a curtain on the window for darkness and on the bed for privacy would have been nice and they are not expensive. At 7 am ppl in the communal room started talking loudly making breakfast. Being the room directly on it they woke me up, in spite of earplugs. I slept 2 hours, the next day I just left in spite of having already payed, I’m sorry but hanging a couple of tips about Helsinki on the wall does not make a place a nice hostel. I’ve stayed in so many hostels in my life and this is probably the 2nd time total that I say that I would never come back.

Stayed for two night in the all girls room, was a little hot at night here in the summer but was perfect temperature with the window cracked. Checked in late at night and the process was super smooth, locker is quite large and could easily fit a regular sized backpack. Everything is done using a key card you get when you check in which made entering the room and using the locker super simple! Would definitely recommend to anyone, I don't usually stay in hostels, so I'm happy I had a great experience.

Those who come to Finland, Helsinki who don't have any one any relatives, friends ,family. I will better recommend to stay in the hostel . You will get you own privacy your own peace no any discussion with any one.
And The room that I stayed was very big and it was a entire biggest room of the hostel. The hostel is peace and silent. I stayed there for a year. I really liked this place and it has my heart. Initially I don't want to leave the hostel but I have to because of my own reason. The location is very nice. You will get all the bus tramp and train easily. Walking distance for train station is 8 min it is good to walk for 8 min and its near by from our hostel. Easy access, if you want to go for helsinki , leepavara, pasila ,any where it is a prime location. The toilet is always clean. You will get all the things you want in the kitchen, toilet,such as utensils , soap, dishwasher, tissues , sponge everything.Overall the stay in the hostel is very good. There is no any issue's. You are not allowed to smoke inside the building which is very good. You will find the lounge to relax or party in the underground or even if you want to study it is a good place. The price is very reasonable and you will get all the furnished room ( personal refrigerator , lamp, kettle, plate spoon, bowl, trash plastics, knife, can opener, potato peeler, scissors). So If you are new you don't have anything then they will provide all the things in your room and it is included with the price that you pay for your stay no any extra charges .You just need to enjoy your stay. And don't worry with the people who drinks and smoke outside of the building. Just mind your own things. These people will be in their own zone you should stay in your own.
But people who don't clean the kitchen after their use it is not any fault of the hostel. You will find the staff very friendly who clean everything perfectly.If you have any issue you can visit the forenom office in the K lounge they will solve it. Kindly and friendly.

Останавливалась в этом хостеле на две недели. Понравились: тихий район, удобное заселение по коду, в номере есть все самое необходимое (чайник, кофеварка, холодильник, небольшой шкаф, тарелка, чашка, ложки-вилки, ведро и пакеты для мусора), чистое постельное белье.

I was living in this hostel for about 6 months. Rooms are approximately 10 m2 by size (no difference between single and double rooms). There is a TV, a coffee maker and a kettle and also a fridge in every room. Basic dishes in every room included.
Kitchen and the bathroom are shared. In the kitchen there should be some basic pan and kettle to prepare food. Sometimes those are missing or you need to look after those from different floor kitchen... There are a toaster, a microwave oven and a stove with an oven in the kitchen. There are washing machines and tumble dryer also to cope with your laundry. Basic cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaner, brush and mop) are also there for your use.
Usually the rooms are quiet and peaceful, of course depending of your neighbours.
The common places are okay - what you need for a everyday living but nothing fancy. Also the premises are a bit past and could be cleaner too. Toilets and the showers are not too welcoming.
There is NO reception here, prepare to handle everything online and beforehand - or prepare yourself to call a quite expensive phone number to get some advice (and also you need to wait some minutes before anyone will answer your call).
The location is quite good and the public transport connections are great to reach Helsinki city centre, Espoo or Vantaa easily.
This hostel is a good choice for you if you don't expect too much for the rooms and premises and prefer more the location and a normal place to sleep. It would be more welcoming and cosy if the premises would be a bit updated and also cleaned better.

Il palazzo in cui si trova l'ostello può sembrare un po' cupo da fuori, ma all'interno è confortevole e molto accogliente, cozy e pulito sia negli spazi comuni che nelle camere.

Excellent location right in the middle of town, but minimal amenities. Room was functional, if not especially comfortable. Kitchenette would have been useful for a longer stay. Das Hotel/ Hostel ist in einer super Lage, zum Hauptplatz sind es ca. 15 Minuten mit der Straßenbahn. Die Zimmer sind schön groß und super geräumig, sogar mit eigener Küche! I had to change hotel last minute due to unacceptable sanitary conditions. Photos are self-explanatory but I want to add that there were many "sticky" spots in the place, including inside the furniture and on the floor. There was also a lot of dust around. So we needed a place not far away just to sleep.
We booked Forenom Hostel and had no expectations.

Booked and paid a room on the one of suggested booking services, but didn't get any instructions hot to check in, there are no employees to help you, and the only one way to contact them is a phone number that didn't work (the phone robot, that should handle guests calls, was broken), no other option to contact them was provided. We had to sleep in corridor, because we didn't get room number and code and it was late night.
And the icing on the cake is that they refuse to refund the money for the paid number! It's just a scam!
Other guests also had also different problems with check in. For example one women booked a room in 2 weeks but got instructions only at late evening. Another women couldn't get to the room because had a problem with a door lock and spend half of hour to open it.

I didn’t have a problem with check in unlike the other reviewers. You need to do your ID verification beforehand by email and they text/email you a code to enter the property. The rooms and bathrooms were basic but clean and fine. The showers had no hair dryer which means women can’t wash their hair in the winter. I got lucky that I found a staff member with a hair dryer. Our flight was delayed so we didn’t arrive until past 1am. There were some sketchy guests in the lobby/ outside - lone men who looked stoned. Wouldn’t recommend it for lone female travelers.

This was my first hostel dormitory experience and I have to say it was all fine. Nice people here and the rooms are clean. The wifi only works in the dining room and Reception which I thought might be a problem but it actually means the dorm rooms are left for sleeping which is a smart move. It's a great location - this was the home of the 1952 Olympics! - and easy to reach from from airport and to get into town. I like the 2 and 3 tram routes which pass nearby and do a figure of eight taking in lots of the sights although it's standard public transport.

Old building (1962 something) and that is visible in the facilities (shower kitchen and toilet), old but very clean and well maintained. Showers where very hot and with a lot of pressure behind it :-)
The building had a special allure to it as it is build right inside the stadium. That plus the price (cheap in comparison to the rest) makes this a place I would definitely recommend and I would visit it again.. :-)

We went to Helka with some friends and my 1 year old boy to have a Brunch!
We were very warmly welcomed by Salla at the reception who was very kind, smiling and offered a memory game to the little one!
We had the good surprise to discover a very nice buffet with many different options (pancakes, bacon, maple syrup, waffles, croissants, fresh bread, ham, cheese, yogurt, pulla, Karelianpiirakka...).
They don't take reservations but the space is very big and we got the chance to be just next to the window. The atmosphere was nice and cozy! The decorations typical Finnish with very good quality furniture from famous Finnish design (Artek - Aalto).
The Breakfast ends at 11am but we stayed a little bit longer by accident and nobody came to rush us out!
I would highly recommend this place if you want to have a nice breakfast in the center of Helsinki!

I stayed at the Hotel Finn on a big interrail trip from the UK up through the Baltics States and then back through Scandianvia. While it doesn't look particularly inviting from the outside, my experience was fantastic. First, my room, while not huge, was quite the cutest hotel room I've ever stayed in. It was warm and quiet with really effective double glazing. The bed was comfortable and it was spotlessly clean. The bathroom was great, with a powerful shower that had plenty if hot water and decent shampoo/body wash (and a hair drier).
The staff were really friendly and welcoming and they have free coffee available at reception. They don't have a restaurant but there are loads nearby and they have even got a discount for guests at some of them. They have a really cool system for leaving your luggage there after checkout, with lockers available for free (and access to a toilet).
It's right slap bang in the centre of the city; the central railway station is 5 minutes walk away, it's got loads of tram stops just outside (T7 or T9 from the ferry from Tallinn), 10 minutes walk to the Old Market Hall and the Orthodox Cathedral.
I loved Helsinki and will definitely stay at the Hotel Finn again

Die Lage ist sehr gut und zentral gelegen. Leider versprechen die Bilder und Beschreibungen etwas ganz anderes. Es ist definitiv kein Hotel sondern ein Hostel. Das Hostel liegt im 5. Stock eines Wohngebäudes, der Zugang ist nicht gleich erkennbar und kann nur zu den Check-In Zeiten von 15-20 Uhr per Klingel betreten werden. ALLE Zimmer haben nur ein Gemeinschaftsbad und separate Toiletten für Frauen und Männer. Dies ist in den Beschreibungen auch nicht ersichtlich. Es gibt eine Gemeinschaftsküche die nicht zum verweilen einlädt. Ständiger Essensgeruch im Gang / Gebäude. Der Altbau hat einen gewissen Charm, jedoch ist alles sehr altbacken, knarzt man hört jegliche Gespräche oder öffnen von Türen. Das Bett ist sehr weich und durchgelegen. Elevator is back working, has a nice historic feel to it. Reception staff was very friendly and check-in was quick. Just keep in mind you have to arrive before 10pm, but once you got the keys you will have 24/7 access.
It’s like a mix between Hotel and Hostel. Cute little rooms, clean shared bathrooms and a communal kitchen. Free wifi, good location and comfy beds.
Yes it‘s not the most modern place around and not your typical hotel, but for the price I paid (42€ for a single room right in the center of Helsinki) I certainly cannot complain! :)
