Fresh food market
Kauppatori is a year-round harborside market in Helsinki, offering a vibrant mix of food stalls, handicrafts, and a heated cafe tent during the winter. It provides an authentic Helsinki experience away from tourist crowds. The market square specializes in seasonal Finnish foodstuffs and souvenirs, located on the seafront at the northern end of Etelasatama harbor.
Nice little market at Helsinki - Food prices are about 12 to 20+ Euros. The food was great but the portion is huge for solo traveller. Would recommend to get one for sharing instead. Be careful of the seagulls because they are everywhere so just finish your food in the tent and you should be good.

Nice place! Recommend for a tourist. I saw this place from the HOP ON HOP OFF bus and I knew I had to come. Had some salmon soup and hot chocolate. Perfect for the weather! There’s also fruits , crepes and hot dogs sold here!

A must-visit spot in Helsinki! There’s an amazing variety of food — make sure to try the salmon soup and the reindeer sausage, they were incredible! Nearby, you’ll also find plenty of souvenirs and unique local items to explore.
Ryan K — Google review
Kauppatori was the only stop on the hop-on hop-off bus tour that truly felt worth hopping off 😄. Later realized it’s just a short 500m walk from Senate Square! The market is lively even on Mondays, with friendly vendors offering tastings of fresh fish and local food 🐟🍓. A happening place full of energy, and you can also catch the ferry to Suomenlinna Fortress 🚤 from here. Definitely worth a visit in Helsinki 🇫🇮!
YG T — Google review
Beautiful harbour market which is a mixture of street foods, fresh fruit, ice cream and craft stalls. You can catch a ferry to the local zoo from the harbour and also take sightseeing cruises which are very informative. Whilst at the harbour why not visit the indoor market where you can eat local delicacies or just watch the world pass by. Further along the harbour is the Helsinki wheel which costs around 25 euros a beautiful way to see the city from high up.
Michelle H — Google review
Beautiful market place. You can buy souvenirs, eat amazing food and try their traditional cuisine. Ice cream is also served. Jewelers with aurora borealis stone can be purchased too.
Ece H — Google review
Open air food stands and souvenir stands. Cash and cards are accepted. Local handcrafts are being sold, like fur, decorations and fresh vegetables and fruit. Fresh local fast food made at the spot, with seating area available.
Ivan — Google review
Lively open-air market by the harbor with local food, fresh berries, crafts, and souvenirs. Great place to enjoy Finnish snacks and watch the sea views, though prices can be a bit touristy.

Perched atop a hill in Helsinki, Uspenski Cathedral is the epicenter of the Finnish Orthodox faith. Known as the 'Russian Church,' it boasts an ornate exterior with red brick and distinctive onion domes. Inside, visitors are treated to lavish interior decorations that reflect Orthodox Byzantine style influenced by Italian Art Deco. With its thirteen towers and east-facing crosses symbolizing Jesus and the Twelve Apostles, this cathedral stands out as Scandinavia's largest Orthodox church.
Wow! This place is impressive and will stick with me forever. I reached the Uspenski cathedral at sunset. The longest sunset in my life and I spent maybe an hour with an empty mind, looking at the beauty of the town. Really beautiful place. I came back the following day to see the interior of the cathedral
Alexandru — Google review
Uspenski Cathedral is one of Helsinki’s most beautiful landmarks. With its red-brick walls, golden domes, and hilltop views over the harbor, it’s stunning inside and out. The interior glows with gilded icons, chandeliers, and rich Orthodox detail — a striking contrast to the minimalist Helsinki Cathedral. Free to visit and just a short walk from the center, it’s a must-see in the city.
Louie F — Google review
A gorgeus architecture of orthodox church! Is a must see place when you are Helsinki , capital of Finland. Words about this place can't describe the beauty of the building. The Uspenski Cathedral is considered to be the largest Orthodox temple in Northern and Western Europe. The cathedral’s size is emphasized by its location on the highest hill of the Katajanokka district. The central cupola of the cathedral is 33 meters high. The cathedral was designed by the Russian church architect Aleksei M. Gornostajev. The Uspenski Cathedral was consecrated on October 25th, 1868. The Uspenski Cathedral is consecrated to the Dormition of the Mother of God (uspenie). The praasniekka church festival (also known as prazdnik or kermis) is held annually on August 15th.

It is a pleasure to visit, and it is quite outstanding. There are many tourists. We can go inside but it is a small Orthodox-style church. If you are not particularly interested in churches, tou can still appreciate the exterior and the city view from its terrace.
Tony C — Google review
Truly wonderful architecture! I made sure to add this as a stop on my trip to Helsinki, Finland! The walk to get to the cathedral was easy (I just used the map on my phone). The views of the surrounding areas are great once you climb the stairs! This is definitely worth the trek!
David K — Google review
1 | The largest Orthodox church in both Northern and Western Europe is also the main cathedral of the Helsinki Orthodox Diocese. It is located close to the Helsinki waterfront, and I was personally captivated by its brick-red color. Around 700,000 bricks were used for its construction, brought from the Bomarsund fortress in the Åland Islands. 2 | The church features 13 gilded domes, symbolizing Christ and the twelve apostles. The main dome rises to a height of 33 meters. 3 | You have to climb several steps to reach it, but it’s worth it. Entrance to the church outside of service times costs €5.
Petr N — Google review
Stunning Orthodox cathedral with impressive red-brick architecture and golden domes. The interior is beautiful and peaceful, with rich icons and details. Located on a small hill, it offers nice views over Helsinki and the harbor.
Anwar S — Google review
The architecture is truly astonishing! It has various charms by being viewed from different angles. The location is great and can be accessed by multiple walkways. The interior is beautiful and very well maintained, and you can learn about the history of the cathedral by easily scanning the QR code for the digital guide.

Cathedral

Helsinki Cathedral, designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, is a grand neoclassical landmark with an iconic green dome. Located in the heart of Helsinki at Senate Square, it attracts both locals and tourists throughout the day. The cathedral's gleaming-white facade stands out against the cityscape and is particularly striking when illuminated at night. With its towering central dome and four smaller surrounding domes, this iconic structure took over 20 years to build and was completed in 1852.
The cathedral is beautiful on the outside and very minimalistic but elegant on the inside. During my visit, an organ concert took place, which was wonderful. However, what I loved the most was the crypt, where there was also an art exhibition. The lighting in the crypt makes the place feel otherwordly and the atmosphere is very serene. Whoever visits the cathedral ought to visit the crypt as well, as it offers a very different perspective.
Veronica E — Google review
Beautiful church. Unfortunately, it was being renovated on the exterior when I visited... so that took away from the overall astetics. Also, the inside was a little stark compared to other cathedrals I've visited in Europe, but I still think it's worth a visit if you are in Helsinki.
Paul C — Google review
Helsinki Cathedral is one of those landmarks that instantly takes your breath away. Standing tall above Senate Square, the white neoclassical façade with its green domes is iconic from every angle — whether you see it from the harbor, the square, or climbing up the grand steps. Inside, the cathedral is calm and minimalist, a beautiful contrast to its imposing exterior. The high ceilings and soft natural light create a sense of quiet majesty, and it feels more like a space for reflection than decoration. The views from the steps are also worth it — you can look out across the city and the harbor, making it a perfect photo spot. It’s free to enter, easy to reach in the heart of Helsinki, and honestly a must-see whether you’re into architecture, photography, or just soaking up the city’s atmosphere.
Louie F — Google review
Beautiful cathedral! Make sure to also visit the nearby Uspenski Cathedral. Unfortunately, this one was under construction, so we couldn’t experience it fully, but the restoration work was covered nicely, giving a good sense of its full appearance. The interior was lovely — definitely a must-see if you’re already in Helsinki!
Ryan K — Google review
It was under construction, but still a sight and experience to behold! I recommend as a visit. My family and I enjoyed it. Outside near the church is great space to walk around and nearby restaurants to eat.

We had a special experience visiting Helsinki Cathedral as they were displaying Luke Jerram’s MARS within the cathedral. Cathedral is beautiful in itself but seeing the scaled replica of Mars with the sound track made for a unique experience. The cathedral is something to see when visiting Helsinki
Andrea D — Google review
It was a pleasant tourist attraction with a large square. Regrettably, several areas were undergoing renovation during our visit. However, there were still a considerable number of tourists present.
Tony C — Google review
Had to wait for it to open at 12:00 on Sunday. There was a 5 euro charge to get in but worth it for the 'eerie but special art experience on this occasion'. Helsinki Cathedral, located in the heart of Finland’s capital, is one of the most iconic landmarks. Some renovation work was taking place but its elegant white facade, grand steps, and green domed roof make it a striking feature of Helsinki’s skyline. The interior is minimalist so the Mars exhibition makes it a special experience. (Oct-2025)

Senate Square is a grand public space in Helsinki, showcasing impressive neoclassical architecture and serving as the focal point of the city's political, religious, and academic life. The square features the magnificent Helsinki Cathedral, Government Palace, and Helsinki University's main building. It was completed in 1852 to honor Tsar Nicholas of Russia and is a key element of Engel's grand city plan. Nearby, the Tori Quarter offers modern amenities within revitalized neoclassical buildings.
It’s indeed a beautiful church, in the centre of the city. Was undergoing renovations in back portion of the church. Basement has a cafe and exhibition space, and brick styled (entrance from a separate way), though can also enter from inside of the church.

I mean it’s a square alright. Very nice buildings around. Obviously topped by the big dog, namely the Helsinki cathedral. No fee to enter obviously, it’s a public area. The downside was that there was work ongoing in the cathedral which kind of dulls the photos but hey, it was still great
Jjj M — Google review
Visited Senate Square during our time in Helsinki 🇫🇮 — it’s one of the main tourist spots in the city and the starting point for the hop-on hop-off bus 🚌. The square is clean, spacious, and offers a stunning view of the iconic Helsinki Cathedral ⛪️. A beautiful place to sit, take photos, and soak in the city’s calm charm. Definitely a must-visit! 🌤️

We did the introduction walking tour of the gpsmycity, the tour was 3.1km in length and took us a few hours to complete, including taking pictures and stops. The tour started right here at the square and and ended at the Temppeliaukio Rock Church. It was a good introduction and the scenery was marvelous.

Helsinki, this is one of my favourite places with many historical buildings to visit. İn fact my favorite, the square itself is great for sits outside if the weather allows. Many restaurants around.During my visit, the weather was sunny and a bit windy.
W B — Google review
Visited Senaatintori, the historic heart of Helsinki, but unfortunately much of the square was under renovation during our visit. The main cathedral and surrounding buildings were partially covered with a temporary facade, which made it hard to fully appreciate the architecture. The square itself is spacious and historically significant, and it would normally be a stunning spot to admire Helsinki Cathedral, government buildings, and cobblestone layout. Worth visiting if you’re in the area, but be aware that the view may be obstructed during renovations.

This is the main square in Helsinki. It’s not very big but it’s definitely a must see. Apart from the statue of Alexander II you can see the most important buildings of the city from here.

Esplanadi Park, established in 1812, is a picturesque green space with tree-lined avenues and a stage for live music performances. Designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, the park features sculptures, flowerbeds, and a vibrant atmosphere with ice cream vendors, locals relaxing on the grass, buskers, and market-style stalls during warmer months. It is also home to Kappeli, one of Helsinki's oldest restaurants serving classic Finnish cuisine.
Clean park with lots of people just relaxing or taking a break from work. There’s a nice open area where everyone can gather to enjoy a concert (Depends on the day of the week as well). There are many seagulls here so you might not want to bring food.

Big and beautiful park. One of the most beautiful places to walk in Helsinki and is incredibly central. You can go nearly anywhere from this park and Biennial pieces can be seen here. The history of the park could be found in the pictures i provided which is pretty interesting.

Central Boulevard park with some local artists being featured and some live performances. There are plenty of ice cream stands lining the boulevard as you walk through and it is very scenic with many green plants. Excellent when it is nice out. Still pretty good when it is not.

Located in the heart of Helsinki, this area is surrounded by plenty of shops and restaurants. You can visit Stockmann, a large nearby mall, or stop by Starbucks or the Moomin Shop. There’s also an Arabica store where you can find some cute Moomin-themed items. A great place to explore and enjoy the city’s atmosphere!
Ryan K — Google review
Esplanade Park is a very popular small park in the city centre of Helsinki. At the other end of the park there is famous Swedish Theater with its restaurants, and at the other end there is even more famous restaurant Kappeli. On a beautiful summer day, Esplanade Park is full of people sitting there, eating ice cream or drinking a beer or a cola and enjoying Finland's all too short summer.
Hannu T — Google review
Esplanadi is a lovely spot right in the heart of Tampere. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, as it is clean, well kept, and full of life during the summer months. There is a good balance between green space and places to sit and relax, which makes it ideal for a coffee break or simply watching people go by. The location is perfect too, with shops nearby and close to the main attractions. I give it 4 stars mainly because although it is beautiful, it can become quite crowded during the busiest hours, which slightly affects the peaceful vibe. Still, it is definitely worth a visit if you are in the city.

The Art Museum Ateneum is a grand 19th-century museum that showcases an extensive collection of Finnish art from the 1700s onwards, as well as international pieces. Housed in one of Helsinki's most beautiful historic buildings, it is part of the Finnish National Gallery and features thousands of works by renowned Finnish artists such as Akseli Gallen-Kallela, the von Wright brothers, and Alvar Aalto.
Stunning pieces of work are housed here. I really enjoyed the section on Finnish artists and the array of beautiful landscape art pieces. We spent around 2-3 hours there, definitely plenty of art to sink your teeth into!

Very lucky to visit this museum during the Klimt exhibition. It's not a big museum, but definitely they do collect and exhibit top quality artworks. It's conveniently located across the central station and accessible by several tram lines.

Restaurant Shelter is a unique dining spot located in an old warehouse at Katajanokka, near the Holiday restaurant. The establishment offers a variety of dishes following Nordic trends, including tartare, seafood, and vegetables. The interior design features an open kitchen and aesthetically pleasing dishes. With its charming location by the harbor and enchanting atmosphere created by music and wine selection, Shelter provides a delightful dining experience.
We book a table for 4 (and one dog), I come by around 17:30, we order a sparkling and wait for rest of our friends to arrive, after that we order the 4 course meal which will change mostly every times. I am pretty happy with the food, it comes with surprise and it has help me change my mind about the vegetables, they made it so simple yet so delicious (when I say simple, does not mean it easy to make 🙂) I like the atmosphere, it’s good for hangout and talk with friends here, we sit close to the window, and the light from the sun outside just good enough to make an experience in the restaurant really calm and cool One highlight that I must mention is the Finnish archipelago bread is unexpectedly AWESOME, served with brown butter. Probably one of the best I had so far. This meal cost me 86 euro (4 course + 2 wine) not expensive. It worth every cent 🙂 thanks! And we will come back again
First S — Google review
We booked the restaurant due to a recommendation. The menu consisted of three options in different courses (starters, middle, main, dessert). Why 4 stars: the food is good/very good, not superspecial though. For my taste I struggled to find a option I like, there weren't any small appetizers (like bread etc.). We enjoyed the atmosphere though and would come back again.
Juulia S — Google review
Had the chef 3 course menu eur59. It was delicious. The only downside is that if one from table take the 3course menu, everyone else at the table must follow suit. However the dishes can still be adjusted according to individual dietary restrictions. There is no ‘no smoking’ section if sitting outside.

The service was very good. The mocktail (dark bloom) was nice. For food, we had the 4-course chef's surprise menu. They were all good. I just didn't like the pike as much as the other dishes. The sauce and veggies in the pike dish were good. The vegetarian dishes were nice. The dessert was also nice. The four star is relative to the other restaurants on the Michelin guide list that I've tried.
Sarah K — Google review
Had the 4-course menu. Everything was fresh and nicely presented — you could really tell the quality of the ingredients, with nothing hidden behind unnecessary twists. The malted bread and tartar with pickled chanterelles were definite highlights. The food was simple and elegant, though for my personal taste, some dishes could have used a bit more flavor. I think those who appreciate subtle, delicate tastes (maybe older diners) would really enjoy this place. Overall, a good experience, just not quite for me.

Everything was super good and the atmosphere was so nice the service was great from The Croatian waiter as well as the welcome from The host were very nicely and the bread obviously is the hit since its my favorite bread ever. Thank you once again.

Friends & Brgrs is a popular burger joint in Helsinki that prides itself on using quality ingredients and offering a wide variety of burger options. While it may not offer the most romantic ambiance, the food is described as good, filling, and affordable. The establishment also features a 'burger of the month' special, with past offerings including a reindeer burger during the Christmas period.
Friends & Brgrs delivers on what matters most - quality food and good service. The burgers are genuinely tasty, with a nice variety of options that cater to different preferences. Whether you’re craving a classic beef burger or something more adventurous, there’s likely something on the menu that’ll hit the spot. The staff stands out as particularly friendly and attentive, creating a welcoming atmosphere that makes the dining experience enjoyable. The service feels genuine rather than forced, which goes a long way in making customers feel comfortable.

It is right by the railway station and belongs to Finland’s most popular burger chain. The food arrived fast, the burgers were tasty, and we had none of the stomach issues we sometimes get at McDonald’s or Burger King. I give it four stars only because the self-service ordering screens were confusing, the English translation was messy, and we had to rely on our phones for Google Translate. Everything else was great, so I still recommend it.
Fabrizio P — Google review
Nice little burger joint ! The burger was nice, and the sweet potato fries just the perfect mix between crunchy and soft. The service was quick, and it was overall very nice. I do however would like to note that the menus aren't fully translated in English, so it's nice to have a Finnish friend with you :)

1. The burger is really delicious! Soft drinks are free from the dispenser on the side of the counter. I didn’t know at first and ordered from the machine, which comes with canned drinks instead. 2. The beef in the burger is super good compared to many other burger chains I’ve tried. 👉 A MUST-TRY place!

Very friendly service, empty and quiet atmosphere during Saturday lunch time when I was the first customer to arrive. I tried their Burger of the month Reindeer burger which was pretty meh 😐🫠 Lacking flavour, but very expensive cost me over 19 € as a meal incl. truffle dip 🤤😋

One of the best fast food I've ever eaten anywhere in the world. The soft bread is good and artisanal and is prepared in front of the tables, artisanal fries, freshly cut and fried. The quality of the ingredients of the hamburger are exceptional. Quiet and clean environment, open and visible kitchens, clean and very friendly and professional staff. The price is right. The drinks are self-served. I will gladly return every time I return to Helsinki.

This is a really great hamburger restaurant. The Friends buns and juicy patties, which are handmade in-house, are particularly appealing points. The Friends Burger is my favorite. It has an only one that sets it apart from other hamburgers. I love everything including the bun, patty, and original sauce. I go back again and again. When it comes to hamburger shop in Finland, I strongly recommend to eat the Friends Burger !

Restaurant Salutorget

Scandinavian restaurant
Located in the heart of historic Helsinki, Restaurant Salutorget is housed in a former 1910s Art Nouveau bank building, exuding elegance and charm. The interior features marble columns and rich wood panels, creating a luxurious ambiance. Guests can enjoy Nordic classics like Toast Skagen and pan-fried Baltic herring. The restaurant also offers a stylish bar, a cozy outdoor terrace with seafront market views, and traditional Afternoon Tea with homemade treats.
Perfect place to have afternoon tea in Helsinki! Very cozy restaurant. Staff and service is excellent! Most of the food was really good (exept sandwich with cucumber, that one is just really sad one 🙈 ). All in all, it's a place i definitely recommended!

I was looking for a high-end spot to celebrate a special birthday lunch, and Salutorget in Helsinki was absolutely perfect! The restaurant has a colorful upscale design and comfortable seating that exudes a relaxed yet elegant vibe. It feels a bit like you're stepping into Alice in Wonderland. The food was fantastic! The French onion soup, burrata, and oysters were over the top in size and flavor and were some of the best I’ve ever had. Drinks were top-notch, and the service was cheerful and attentive throughout the meal. If you’re looking for a memorable lunch or dinner experience in Helsinki, Salutorget is the place to go!

Very fancy and tasty restaurant experience next to ”Salutorget” aka Kauppatori. This place has very long waiting time between dishes, so be prepared for waiting for each dish atleast 30 mins. I like the historical, fusion and Helsinki’s local vibe there 🙌🏻 🔥

Excellent service! We arrived hungry last minute and kitchen was closed. Our server quickly checked with the kitchen crew if they could take our order and luckily they did. We ordered the reindeer steak and traditional fish dish and a salad to share and raspberry tiramisu. The reindeer steak melted in the mouth and the fishes were delicious. Our servers were polite and friendly. Definitely we want you to be back again.

This used to be a 200 year old bank that is now a restaurant. The place is nicely decorated and the basement vault is now the entrance to the WC. The food was good, tasty, and fresh. Overall, we had a good experience.

Don't miss out on enjoying this place and fabulous people. We were lucky but highly recommend reservations. Lovely lunch and tea was fully booked.

What a beautiful restaurant with elegant design and amazing food 🥹✨ it was sweet when the waiter gave me some tea leaves when I mentioned that I loved their earl grey tea 🫖 thank you ❣️

Good food in a nice setting. I had the Skagen toast and Reindeer, my friend had the steak. Both were delicious.

Pizza restaurant
Rax is a popular pizza buffet spot in Finland offering a variety of pizzas including vegetarian and fish kebab options. The buffet also includes side dishes like wings, fries, and meatballs as well as a salad bar. Customers can enjoy all-you-can-eat pizza, side dishes, and drinks including coffee for a set price. Additional items like ice cream are available for an extra charge. While some pizzas may have been cooled due to low customer turnout, the quality improved as more people arrived.
Food is good..had 6 different variants of pizza, has also mac and cheese, buffalo wings, sausages, vegie salads, watermelon, different drinks like sodas, coffee and teas...you can also order unlimited ice cream separately...here you'll be given 1 plate to be used over and over until you finish dining; you will also receive ice cream paper cups, wooden spoon and drinking paper cups only once...but you can have unlimited servings..breads and pizzas taste good..we will return, as we enjoyed the meal, and it is also situated inside the mall, you have easy access to different stores..

As I am vegetarian the option is limited but I enjoy the pizza and cookie cake over weekend. The place is nice to relax and have some good time with family and friends and enjoy Pizza

Good place to have some lunch in the heart of city centre.

Lunch buffet at 9.90€. Add soft ice with candies, sauces etc. is plus 2.70€ per person. All you can eat. Some pizzas were a bit cooled and dried down. Reason: so few people. But as more people came to eat, the situations got better. Good variety of pizzas with various toppings. Chicken wings, meatballs, french fries, wieners, nachos, salsa, jalapenos (spicy; great!), greens like rucola, tomato, cucumber, red onion mix, onion rings, cale, salad.. cottage cheese, fetacheese, pumpkin seeds, salted peanuts.. Pepperoni, Tuna, Hawaii, Cheeseburger, Garlic Tuna etc -pizzas. Bonaqua water Strawberry/kiwi with Zinc, Fanta lemon, Fanta Orange zero sugar, Coke normal or zero sugar, Sprite. Coffee light or dark roast with or without milk, special coffees. Plenty of things to choose from. The staff was very friendly. Free toilets (naturally), the door is locked, just ask for the code (I did not take the receipt, so I don't know if it had the code printed on it). We spend 1.5 hours of indulging, relaxed with no hurry. Between 10.55-12.25. A lot of free tables to choose from. Diners were mostly construction workers from nearby sites or elderly people. Entrance is from the street one floor down. Burger King is entered from the same doors.

So we visited on a Tuesday evening in July, it was very quiet when we arrived, and started that way, drinks are included with the buffet, everything is self service. Was fairly clean, but everything was being done by one chap from cleaning, to cooking, to serving so as you'd expect everything wasn't perfect... Our biggest issue was despite a huge menu of veggie pizzas there was one cheese pizza, that wasn't even margarita as it was lacking any tomato base... Overall ok value for what you get, just not amazing...

Food is good . I feel like there should be regular coffee cups for the coffee. We are civilized people ,don't want to drink with plastic paper cups indoors.

One of the best Rax's. The staff and service is nice and the food is also really delicious! Anddd most importantly it's clean and maintained so the atmosphere and environment is pleasant ! Must visit !!

Good food (mostly pizza, salads), perfect choice for fast and cheap eating. Icecream for 2€. Probably dont find cheaper restaurant (fastfood) near the citycenter
