Instead it’s nice to find somewhere authentic and that’s where La Choza fits the bill. I love the decor here, it’s bright, colorful and like a little corner of Mexico in Brighton. It’s not a huge place so booking ahead is probably wise, and although we didn’t the staff happily placed us in a queue on their app, which texted us when our table was ready. The staff here are fantastic, really friendly and happy to help. They make a mean Dark and Stormy too. As for the menu, it’s simple but fantastic, choose your base, filling and salsa. Grab some Tortillas and the dips you want too. We didn’t see the special board till after we ordered so maybe that was worth a mention. The food came fast, as did the drinks and it was too quality, so delicious and full of flavor. It may have been our first visit but it won’t be our last. A shoutout for the churros too. Can’t wait to visit again.

The food- was rather small, 1 tiny taco each, and sad, didn't look or taste fresh, for a total bill of around £100! The crab seemed from frozen as was cold and watery, tasted a bit off, the prawn taco had exactly 3 tiny sad prawns in it, the soup luke warm and questionable. Service - we were asked twice by 2 different staff 'what else have we not had?' (that's a first, where the client has to memorise the menu for the restaurant), then we were asked if 'we're ok with our hands for the dessert?' then asking for a spoon and being brought a fork as all the spoons are being washed.....? Also brought a veggie dish, when we ordered fish. Funnily enough at dessert, we discovered that we actually weren't served one of the dishes at all! Having spent a summer in the Oaxaca region, I would say this place definitely ranks amongst the best Mexican food we’ve had in the UK. We opted for the Corn Ribs and then the Birria and Fish tacos, washed down with a bottle of Modelo and a mezcalita. The tacos were great and the corn ribs really surprised me as it’s not something I would usually order. On the slightly more expensive side for the portions, but the quality is there. No wait, plenty of tables available and service was quick, friendly and efficient. To eat I had a philly, basically sliced steak, mustard mayo, cress and something else. I’d been a fan since the Poole Valley days and, as a creature of habit, I was really pleased to find my favourite dishes were still on the menu. I went a couple of times in October and the food was lovely. Unfortunately, I’m not such a fan of the relaunched menu at the new store. I ordered my usual: the hoisin duck wrap, popcorn cauliflower, and tofu pockets. The duck wrap tasted and felt quite different texturally to how it used to, so unfortunately I didn’t enjoy it as much. As vegan we struggle to find good quick to go food and as a chef I know how much it costs to produce the sushi rolls. It’s a shame but we will be considering other option before choosing Happy Maki again, the rolls were nice but not £10 nice.
