I went last weekend for the first time in maybe 7 years (I’m not local to Brighton). All my past visits have been 10/10. I was hesitant that, like many things nowadays, the food would be lower quality and more expensive. I was absolutely wrong. We ordered the tapas for two people and then a few sharer bits, and literally stared at each other wide eyed with each bite we took. There is not one thing I could fault (as a Northener, I have to mentioned that their chips are possibly the best I’ve ever eaten). As vegan we struggle to find good quick to go food and as a chef I know how much it costs to produce the sushi rolls. It’s a shame but we will be considering other option before choosing Happy Maki again, the rolls were nice but not £10 nice.

It was busy when we arrived at 8pm on a Friday night but we managed to get a nice little table for two close to the bar. The service was very good and friendly. Came here on a Wednesday evening with booking a table beforehand. I would suggest you'd do the same as it was full for a Wednesday (always a good sign). We ordered drinks, two small plates and two large plates and it came out of the kitchen really quickly (we were eating main meal in the next 20-25 minutes). After that we decided to have a dessert and with that it took one whole hour to order, get the desserts, finish and pay. So the service was a bit slow in the end but nothing to complain about as they were really nice and friendly. I loved the food, fairly priced and loved the fresh ingredients. One thing that bothered me was the lamb's lettuce on everything. Could be at least flavored, or maybe not there at all? We decided to stop for coffee and breakfast but sadly after a 15 minute wait the coffee finally arrived only just warm, breakfast then arrived another 15 minutes later and just as the coffee was the breakfast too had elements that were barely warm. We decided to chance a walk in on a Saturday, despite the garden being closed this weekend we were sat at a table on the terrace within 15 minutes of our arrival. It seems as though the staff have maintained relationships within the community, as people walked in completely at ease and were familiar with the people and food. Instead it’s nice to find somewhere authentic and that’s where La Choza fits the bill. I love the decor here, it’s bright, colorful and like a little corner of Mexico in Brighton. It’s not a huge place so booking ahead is probably wise, and although we didn’t the staff happily placed us in a queue on their app, which texted us when our table was ready. The staff here are fantastic, really friendly and happy to help. They make a mean Dark and Stormy too. As for the menu, it’s simple but fantastic, choose your base, filling and salsa. Grab some Tortillas and the dips you want too. We didn’t see the special board till after we ordered so maybe that was worth a mention. The food came fast, as did the drinks and it was too quality, so delicious and full of flavor. It may have been our first visit but it won’t be our last. A shoutout for the churros too. Can’t wait to visit again.

It is a great location on the beach in Brighton, somewhat understandably not cheap. Most of the food was well presented and good quality. The French toast was our least favourite- the ganache was split, the toast was burnt, and the toppings were frugal. The English breakfast was much better. The crab Benedict was not to my taste, but was well cooked and presented - I just didn’t think the flavours combined well. The decor is bright and welcoming and music choices spot on. The plant based menu was really tasty and good value. I had pie and mash with minted peas and gravy which was a proper treat. Pie was delicious and all the trimmings were perfect. A generous amount of gravy was especially good. We also had some puddings which were all equally tasty. The vibes are excellent and we can take our dog who is also a fan of the place. Great selection of local beers and lovely chilled wine for me. Lots to choose from too. Looking forward to trying a roast soon and generally having a great place to relax and have fun now the vibes are back on point.
