It is a lovely home of an artist and has been well preserved. It has some interesting things to see and the paintings are wonderful. The real treasure here, and what keeps us coming back time and time again, is the garden. A maze of little pathways that meander past ponds and rockeries. The garden is broken up with foliage and plants of different heights and colours and each time we go the garden looks different with its different colours. Our most recent visit had the wisteria out in full bloom which was spectacular. Last year we spent ages watching a bumble bee visit all the different varieties of dahlia. My children are 15, 13 and 9 and they all manage to enjoy a visit (maybe becuase it isn't very big so we aren't there long enough for them to start complaining!!). It is a great place to while away a couple of hours. Not much longer than that but Kirkcudbright has plenty of galleries and museums to fill a day with and this is a great part of that.

It was a terribly wet day in Kirkcudbright and the Castle looked imposing in the rain. Interestingly the little shop at the end was open despite the main attraction being closed off. I felt sorry for the guy on duty but he was so cheery and helpful a real credit to Historic Scotland. He gave us some advice on other attractions and a good cafe recommendation nearby. We tasted two gins and two Agave spirits (aka Tequila distilled here). Kelvin was brilliant from start to finish, funny, engaging and we learned how to taste and how gin is distilled. I didn't buy any Dark Art bottles from the farmers market as I had intentions on going direct to the distillery. Signage wasn't clear on how to gain access to the distillery. We walked around and around the building. We finally found the entrance through a blue door to the right hand side at the front of the building. There was a scribbled sign at the entrance saying they were closed due to the farmers market, but merchandise could be purchased over the road at Key Store convenience store. I went over the road, but I had my doubts. They were only selling bottles. No jumpers, tshirts, pin badges etc. I felt like I'd been on a wild goose chase. I really didn't want to go back to the farmers market. I was left disappointed. I'd fancied trying their new Vespero. I left Scotland to return home empty handed.

I was in the shop whilst on FaceTime with my daughter and granddaughter and I was showing her the choice of products. The staff were nice and very helpful when my car wouldn't start too! The bar/restaurant is nice, however, they could have more entertainment on and advertise the games room more, we didn't even know it was there until our last day. Finally, the RAF plane is a unique attraction, but there is no explanation I could find why it is there.

As it said when booking the wifi is really hit and miss however not a problem as you can get wifi by reception or in the clubhouse. The area is fantastic, golf course on an evening is amazing to wander around and catch site of the deers. The walk down to the beach is really nice and the bay itself is clean and a great swimming spot. The site is huge, the pitches are of a good size and fairly level. The views out to sea are spectacular and on a clear day can easily see the isle of man. Shop was quite well stocked and fairly priced. Bar area same again a fair choice and not badly priced. Only real negatives I can say is, The bin area could be kept in a better condition. And the cleanliness of the shower / toilet areas. We have been to many sites over the years and this is one of the dirtiest, not the worst but not the cleanest. In my opinion the hygiene team are letting this really brilliant site down. Would this stop me booking again, no. But a definite improvement should be made .

The staff were all really pleasant and very helpful. 2. The location is great lovely little bay area and the park itself has well maintained grounds. SADLY that is where it ends. The facilities are FILTHY. All the toilets were dirty every single time we went into them throughout our visit. We even spotted a lady who looked like she was cleaning the place and decided to jump on the opportunity to go for shower while it had just been cleaned. However it had not been cleaned just new toilet paper added. We as guests have to take responsibility for cleaning up after ourselves i get that but sadly people just do not and perhaps it's clear why they don't if the place isn't being cleaned in the first place. The toilet block themselves have no code so anyone could and did just walk in off the beach and use them. Then we have the pitches themselves we got put onto a pitch that was like a bmx track not flat and again not clean with the person before us used toilet paper in a nice neat pile at the bottom of the pitch. Nice touch. We did ask to get moved and to be fair the staff were brilliant and did move us to a better pitch but again not level but more manageable that the original one. We did speak to a few other people on site who said the same but they never asked to move. We paid for WiFi now we understand that is a luxury but we paid for the use of this it wasn't free and we are lucky if it worked for 5 hours total time over 3 days for myself and it didn't work af all for my wife. Again it's a luxury to have it available but at least have it working if we are paying for it. As mentioned the grounds are lovely and we did enjoy walking around the park but every single part was covered in a combination of litter, kids scooters/bikes and dog pooh. We have been very disappointed and it got to the point that by tea time on the Sunday my wife wanted out of there so we packed up and left a day early.

Our pitches faced the main playground which the kids loved. We had a swim at the pool which was great. Get it booked in in the morning otherwise you won’t get a slot. Watch out for the lockers which steal your 20p if you have to pop back for something you’ve forgotten. So you’ll need another 20p to lock it again. The shower blocks were fairly well maintained although there were a few occasions where some cleaning was needed. The unisex bathrooms at the back were better in my opinion. Showers were hotter and better pressure. DBe AWARE though as at nighttime the Velux windows in the shower and toilet blocks become reflective meaning that people by the sinks can see people on the toilet in certain cubicles. A couple of evenings were spoiled by some campers having open fires and playing loud music until midnight. There is no security number to call out of hours so short of complaining to the campers (which we didn’t want to do) you’re basically stuck with whatever the others are doing. One person’s fire was shedding sheets of glowing embers into the air which were landing on tents. There is barely any signal - WiFi is £11 but to be honest it’s not good enough to be worth paying for so save your money. We tried a few beaches including Brighouse bay (walkable from the site), Mossyard bay and Carrick Bay (our favourite) which at low tide allows you to walk to the island. We visited Wigtown which was so lovely - 15 bookshops! We had lunch in the Reading Lasses which is a very novel place indeed. We went to the Scottish night at Kirkcudbright which was brilliant - get there early with a chair or picnic blanket. We got fish and chips to eat. I think we went to the last one of the season but worth a visit if you’re here and it’s on. The dark skies planetarium is well worth a visit and very much worth every penny. Very neurospicy friendly if you let them know. The kids learned a lot here and then tested their knowledge with the amazing night sky in real life back at the campsite.

It's the 3rd time I've stayed in about 8 yrs, twice previously in the lodges & this time in our new motorhome. The stay & site were fabulous! Very quite, beautiful setting, fabulous wildlife - I saw 4 deer, lots of rabbits & birds, a hare & a fox. It was peaceful, immaculately clean, all the staff were extremely helpful & friendly. The sunny weather was a bonus. I was disappointed though to read some reviews while we were staying which I found really unfair. 1 man complained that his party of friends weren't allowed music & parting after 10pm. I'm sure most people dont want that on a camping site & the website is clear on the rules. Another person mentioned rude staff. My experience was totally the opposite. I telephoned before arriving & spoke to a lovely young man on reception who was extremely helpful in answering my questions as a new motorhome owner. The receptionist on arrival (Jade) was also lovely & very helpful. The clubhouse manager (Katie) was the same. She took our food order, explained all their services & even wrote out the golf course fees, opening times & answered my partners questions while we were having a drink & waiting for our food. The pizzas made by Callum the chef were delicious, piping hot & promptly served & the barman Billy was also very friendly. He came to clear empty glasses away promptly, offered to bring more drinks & picked up dropped napkins on his way back into the clubhouse. There were also 2 other ladies in reception who supported my request to park our motorhome near to the slipway to allow my diabetic partner to use his kayak, as the walk carrying the equipment would be too far for him. I'm not really sure what more they could have done for us. Each day while walking my dogs I saw a large amount of staff busying away maintaining the site. 3 working on the golf course, 1 building dry stone walls, 1 laying wood chips on the children's play area, 1 painting the toilet block, 1 electrician working on the EHUs, 1 mowing & 1 strimming the pitches & 1 working on a small digger to replace damaged turf on the pitches. Again I can't think of anything more they could be doing. The only thing which could be better is the Internet connection. We paid for the site connection for 2 days at only £6.50 for 2 devices, as our own Internet providers signal wasn't good. The site connection worked fine for our phone & firestick to watch movies on a night. So from our point of view, the site, the staff & our stay was fantastic!
