While it wasnt the historic literary landmark I had in mind, staffs were very friendly and welcoming. There is a moderate longish plod up hill through Rannerdale to the col opposite Robinson - and then the lovely undulating ridge walk with spectacular views of the fells and lakes below. I agree with other reviews that the very steep stone steps down from the summit of Rannerdale Knott need a lot of care - they can be slippery or uneven. You can stay in the youth hostel in the valley. It's a very secluded place and ideal place to go if you want to get away from all the noise. And it was something out of this world; truly a majestic experience to witness sunrise between the mountains.
