It is almost like a secret,I did not know about it til a little while ago. It is a stones throw away from the Aquadrome and the meeting point is in a lovely sort of bucolic area with three rivers and a small house which is the reception/shop area for the tour. It was a very peaceful and relaxing experience. The boat goes very slowly so it is very relaxed,but the 40 minutes of the boat tour goes very quickly. They do boat tours every 45 minutes here. We went at 11:00 on a Monday morning and it wasn’t busy on the tour at all so if you are planning to go at that time there is no real need to book way in advance,maybe see what the weather is like and give them a phone call if the weather is suitable. The pub section of the place was bustling and the restaurant section was nicely full. For a Tuesday evening we felt lucky to find this kind of atmosphere in a small town. When I walked in there were two staff at the welcome desk and for some reason they just disappeared and left us waiting for a few minutes which I thought was quite bizarre, but oh well. Certainly worth a visit at least once to test yourself on ots hills. The course is in reasonable condition for a public course and the views over the local area and posh houses are great, so a pleasant course to play. The holes are laid out logically, so not too difficult to find your way around, although there is no overarching course map, nor do the tee boxes have any map reflecting the individual holes' layout - and there are many blind holes, albeit pins are basically all in a straight line on those holes. Walking this course can be tiring, and for such a short course (around 4000 yds from memory) it can still generally take around 4.5 hours. Local people are friendly. The course borders the exclusive Moor Park golf club, which you get several nice views of, and which looks more attractively planted and better laid out - although that is a guess. Personally I think at least half the holes can make good use of a driver, although the 3 and 5 woods never came out of the bag due to the risk of hitting them off sloping fairways towards quite short, sloping greens. I'm a wedding photographer and so work at lots of wedding venues in and around London and Micklefield Hall is my favourite. I've been lucky enough to have photographed dozens of weddings there. There are loads of amazing backgrounds which are perfect for photography, but actually what I love best about the venue is the staff. It is family run which really shows, they care so much about all their couples and nothing is too much trouble for them. We hired the boat in the 15th for 9 people mix of kids & adults. The volunteers that operate the boat were amazing with us, especially great with the kid’s. If we had started earlier we'd have turned the walk into a pub crawl (highly recommended as there are some pubs along the route, albeit not immediately on the Chess Valley Walk itself). All in all it has been a lovely experience to visit London's countryside and we'd much recommend it to anyone who is interested in an amateur hiking experience. (Don't forget to bring appropiate footwear - it can get rather muddy at some points).
