I went on a Saturday and there were barely any crowds. Which honestly made me sad because this is such an excellent museum. The staff are friendly and do a great job up keeping this museum. You can easily make a day trip out of this. The observation deck was easily my favorite part of the museum and there are so many cute shops and restaurants around it as well. At the time they were open Wed-Sun 9-5PM. We had to find parking on the street because with our roof top carrier we would not fit into the parking garage. The visitor itself is larger than it looks inside as the building goes further out back. The National Park Service Passport Cancellation Stamp is located to the right when you walk in. There is a large info desk with a number of rangers and volunteers to help answer any questions. My two younger kids asked to do the junior ranger which we completed on site. Directly to the left when you walk in is the small park store they have there. There was a small selection of items there. We went to the back of the building where they have a theater and a short film. The back of the building is also where the wheelchair entrance is and there are ramps inside the building. There is also a nice outdoor picnic looking area around the back of the building as well. They also offered a couple ranger programs the day we were there but we only had a limited amount of time with other activities planned for the day and we really wanted to check out the New Bedford Whaling Museum across the street. Overall I don't think we would visit again after our first visit but it was worth the first visit.

Could be a cool place for history but seems that's gotten lost in the waste. The military museum was a pleasant surprise but that was the only good thing. Don't go if you think you'll be able to tour the fort, it's locked up and overgrown. The only fort ruin you can walk through, the smell of urine permeating just from the outside of it was disgusting. The inside is just gross and a sad reminder how no one gives a crap about the history of the forts. Speaking of crap, the smell from the wastewater treatment facility right there is nauseating to say the least. Very unfortunate. Sad to see.

Our camp looks forward to this museum every year. It is by far our favorite summer field trip and this year they added AC. The firemen are friendly and the kids love all the hands on experiences. They can sit in the antique fire trucks, turn the steering wheels and sound the horns. They get to try on fire hats, boots and coats and slide down the fire pole. They get to roam around the bunk rooms and the Fire Captain’s office/bedroom. I highly recommend this place to kids and anyone who remembers the firehouses of yesteryear. Some of our puzzles werent in our room and the tablet barely worked for us so by the time they noticed we were not quite into the game anymore. I've done MANY escape rooms and unfortunately I wouldn't come back here which is a shame. The room was beautiful but the customer service was not their. Fast forward another month later and still nothing on my credit card statement on November 14th. So now I am just going to write a bad review because they obviously don't care. I would not ever recommend this place to anyone - especially if you have a food allergy or if you just like to get your food order right the 1st time.

Although it looks small on the outside this place is packed with artifacts such as guns, knifes, maps, letters, photos and so much more from the Revolutionary War to Desert Storm. Hidden gems include a Medal of Honor, a rare sight to see as we as a hand drawn map of a beach on D Day drawn from a view of a German solder to an actual verified signed copy of Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler. There is so much to see in the building give your self all three hours they are open in the day to give yourself enough time to see everything if your really into it. Another cool thing is because of size of the building and incredible amount of historical pieces they have on display, they only take donations of war time gear from solders and families of solders in and around the Massachusetts area to keep it a close to home feel. The museum is run by Veterans, which is amazing, stories they tell and the history they know, any questions you have you can bet one of them can answer them for you, I went on a Thursday and the crew working that day made my day with stories they told, we could have talked for hours. I encourage anyone in the area to go, the museum is free, although donations are excepted which is the least we could do for this incredible place and these incredible men and women who work here and what history they help us to remember.
