This museum is worth the visit - the staff are very nice & proud to share the history of their town! The basement is full of various antiques/artifacts in sections like blacksmith, leather shop, & so forth. The other floors display beautiful artwork, a Marshall’s office, a large collection of arrowheads, & a recreation of a late 1800s traditional family home. The best was the railroad museum, though! My son absolutely loved seeing all the details & watching the trains go around! We will definitely come back!

Amazing to tour. Jefferson has an incredible and interesting history and they have many stories and artifacts from local families that have lived in the area for decades. Clerk at front desk knew so much history about the building and we were able to tour and look at all the different floors at our own pace. Be prepared, it will get stuffy and warm on the top floors, but for a historical building it is expected. Definitely recommend. Thank you for taking the time to share so much with us.

The workers are all SO sweet and helpful. The museum is very clean. There are stairs and a small elevator. There is a lot to see, I'd plan about 1.5 to 2 hours to see it all, 1 hr if you rush through it without reading the plaques and examining everything. There are so many handmade clothing items and quilts and food items and historically significant furniture pieces and hand-bound books. I was surprised some items weren't displayed at the Smithsonian because of the significance and age. The train room is a major highlight for children. I have never seen a display so intricate, all made by hand (no touching allowed). The trains run, and there's a tiny kite that blows in the breeze (electricity and wire). The detail is amazing to see. A must-see on a trip through historic Jefferson. The photos I added are less than half of what we saw.

We arrived in Jefferson to meet some folks and we stopped in here while we waited to pass some time. The place is full of a eclectic mix of items: clothing to candy. We spent over an hour poking about and the staff there was very friendly and glad to see us. We bought a few things and were out in no time. No hassles, no problems. Little known secret about the oldest store here in jefferson; there is a play area in the back for children, where they can read in a nook, play diner, or go shopping. They also have the same checkers table set up for them in the back with really affordable toys. My grand babies love to come here just like I did when I was a child. This is a fun little store to wander around. It is a mixture of touristy items, Texas items, and a little local selection. It’s very much like most “modern” general stores where it has throwback items and old time candy, etc. a good selection of toys and then jams/jellies and similar. This is the greatest most magical museum experience I have ever had in my entire life. Mr. Ingram has collected countless treasures but he is a unique treasure among all the people I've ever met and I'm so grateful I stopped in and had the opportunity for him to share some of his knowledge with me. It's hard to explain what this museum even is - there's hundreds and hundreds of antique (mostly American) clocks, but there's also every kind of surveying equipment, chronometer, compass, barometer, calculator, and adding machine. Lots of incredible old maps. On his extensive travels, if he thought something was neat, he would get it. A pile of newspapers from the 40s, a collection of hundreds of bus tokens, a history of nails with examples, a giant hornet nest. Everywhere you look there is something new to see. There is also a room with old hand-cranked record players, phonograph players, a hand organ, a music box that plays "records." He knows everything about all of them and will gladly tell you and give a demonstration. There are old hand-cranked telephones, old computers, a collection of old cell phones, travel brochures. He even had the model of the first cell phone I ever had, a big old brick. So many memories came flooding back when I picked it up and pulled out the antenna. His wife's salt and pepper collection was also fabulous. He's got many informative blurbs typed up so you can understand the significance of what you're looking at. He's also got a table set up with books bound of pictures from his travels with his lovely wife he loved so very much. He likes to write poetry and there are stacks of poems he's printed out which you can take, including poems he wrote about his love for his wife and her struggles with dementia. I will keep them forever. I am going to tell everyone about this place and I encourage you to go see it while Mr Ingram is here to share his knowledge with us. He and his wife who recently passed set this place up and run it out of their own pocket, just because they wanted to share it with people. Thank you Johnny and Edith.

My wife and I took the tour of The Grove this afternoon. It is a beautiful home and Mr. Whitington is an excellent guide. Thanks to him and his wife for opening their historic home for others to experience. They have not only done a remarkable job in restoring this place but also in researching and preserving its history.

In a time period where customer service seems to be a total lost cause, these amazing folks are a reminder of the great, go above & beyond type of customer service we all want! We took the Jefferson Ghost Walk on a Friday night, and it was absolutely awesome. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and shared some amazing stories that brought the town’s haunted history to life. The Jefferson Hotel was especially eerie—upstairs had that classic heavy, chilling air you hear about in ghost tales. I had five teens and a 10-year-old with me, and they all loved it! The only downside was the Texas humidity, but even that couldn’t dampen the experience. I’d absolutely come back and do it again. Highly recommend!

The people working at the store were super friendly and as an added bonus, they have cats and a dog in the store that you can love on. In the back area there's funky yard art and a nice place to just hang out, relax and catch your breath. It’s got your typica tourist souvenir classics like tshirts and magnets but with its own unique flair.
I enjoyed all the personality in the decorations and the items they sell.
The coolest part is that you can “mine” for fossils and gemstones! Go into the store and buy a bag (looks like sand, but as you sift it out, treasures appear!) the small bags are $10 each but I’d recommend the “motherlode” which is about $27 including tax but you get a TON of cool crystals and fossils! A very fun activity for kids or grownups :)

I won’t badmouth John Nance because he’s a legend at what he does. He knows the bayou and everybody knows him.
But this is no tour. This is a boring 30 minute boat ride up and back down the ugliest brown channel you’ve ever seen (my pix make it look good, but it’s not).
And during the boat ride, you get an education from John about all the cool things you will never see on the tour, plus a good dose of his jokes and questionable views on many topics. No alligators, no nutria, no snakes, no amazing birds, nothing interesting.
After the dull tour, we learned that you can rent a canoe and go up the bayou in a different direction. Maybe we’ll try that next time.

This place was really cute. It was decorated for Christmas but seemed cluttered. The cheese curds and fries were amazing. The Brussels sprouts I feel would have been better cut in have and crisped a little. We split the burger and it was good. I felt it was a bit pricey. The restaurant seemed cluttered there were things that should have been out of site for customers. Maybe lack of storage? The stuff out of place affected the atmosphere for me as it was distracting. Great restaurant, I love the decorations hanging from the roof. The service was good, you get refills on chips and some drinks also have refills. One of my favorite things is that every table has either a triangle iq game or a set of dominoes. The food was good, and I personally got the crab cakes and the bacon brussel sprouts. The Country Fried Steaks was tough, had no flavor, had too much batter and looked burnt. The presentation of the plate was pretty pathetic. The chicken salad was runny. While in Jefferson during the middle of the week, we visited all of downtown and decided to stick around and have lunch. The reviews seemed good for this place, so, we decided to give it a try. We arrived shortly after noon and there were quite a few people in the restaurant. However, there were a couple of two-tops and two four-top tables available. Seating at the bar was empty. There was one couple already in the restaurant waiting to be seated. A server from behind the bar area acknowledged us an told us it would be just a moment to be seated. We waited, along with the other couple for ten or fifteen minutes with the vacant tables still available with no further contact by any of the staff. The first couple decided to leave. We waited another ten to fifteen minutes before someone finally decided to come out to us and seat us. Our server assigned to our table took our orders - chicken fried steak dinner and hamburger with fries dinner - fairly quickly and then brought us a small basked of chips. I also ordered a side salad, which was brought out quickly and was fresh and tasty. However, it went downhill from there. We waited forever for them to bring our main entrees. When they finally arrived, the only thing that was hot and tasty was the mashed potatoes on my plate. The chicken fried steak was pretty hot, although it had been nearly burnt to a crisp. The meat was tasteless, and the batter had a burnt taste. The hamburger was cold and tasteless. The bun was dry and very hard. The onion rings were basically room temperature and were just OK. Maybe they were just having a bad day, but, overall, it definitely was not what we expected and definitely worth the price paid.

I am always excited to find a restaurant with a good beer list. I had an amazing Belgian Tripel and a really good Reuben. This place is well laid out and has a lot to offer for someone looking to get fudge, ice cream, teas, coffee, and other things. The tables were clean and the chairs were great quality and still looked new. The menu is limited and it is pretty pricey for what you get. I love the fact that it had thick sliced turkey on my sandwich but then it had cheap cheese on there. Let’s upgrade that plastic cheese to something else to reflect the price of the sandwich. There should be sides you can order like fries or fried pickles. If these are listed on the menu I totally missed them. I’m not a fan of ruffles or plain potato chips so even offering a side of potato salad would be nice. Also it should list that the sandwich is buttered. I would have opted out of this.

We loved this drive thru safari! We came on Monday 10/14/24 and there were no lines! So many animals to see and you can easily spend at least 2 hours here! Some donkeys were aggressive when feeding them. We stayed away from the camels based on people's reviews. Our favorite animals to feed were the sweet buffalos and goats. Ostriches were funny! Also there were so many beautiful backdrops that you can take pictures! Friendly staff, amazing environment... Definitely worth every penny! Highly recommend!

Such a FUN safari!!! My mom and I stopped here on the way back from Arkansas and I’m glad we did! We saw 2 baby monkeys and fed everything like camels, emu’s, cows, zebras and a lot of others! Fantastic experience at Lonesome Dove! We went at an off time so we had the whole place to ourselves. The park itself has more pathways, and more natural landscape left intact than any other wildlife park I’ve been to which was awesome. On my first visit to Jefferson a few years ago, my friend and I went on your Golf Cart Tour and were treated the cemetery visit and Diamond Bessie's story. Loved it! The next time I visited Jefferson with my sister last year, the golf cart was now a Beer Trolley...even better. Air conditioning! Anyway, on my third visit to Jefferson this past weekend, my sisters and I brought our parents (who are 93 and 90) to see the Trial of Diamond Bessie play. We enjoyed it thoroughly, especially when we got to meet the characters, er, folks who have contributed and continue to contribute to Jefferson's rich history. Worst field and officials. We drive from out of town to watch our freshmen play their JV. The grass wasn't cut. You couldn't tell where the yard lines were and they obviously pay the referee to throw the games their way. Very sad. Unsportsmanlike on several of their players that never got called. Instead of teaching and calling a fair game they did the opposite. Not a field or school with integrity here.
