The only place dogs can't go is the butterfly and reptile enclosures. So much to see and a lovely environment. Ample activities for kids and buying animal feed gives you the chance to get close to a lot of different animals. We saw the bears... although sleepy as we passed and watched a couple enjoying an 'experience' and feeding the brown bears. Thoroughly recommend. 10/10 The shops are great too.

Wonderful to see the polar bears and normal brown bears aswell, beautiful trail walks around the park that take you to the Big Cats section and just around the zoo, plenty of stuff to eat and drink on way round with kids play areas at same location with picnic areas if you did bring your own food, plenty of wash stations aswell! Would recommend good footwear you done mind getting dirty, we visited in November but I can imagine some places would still be kinder muddy even in the summer, most of the paths are tarmacked on the way round expect the paths through the woods(obviously), all and all I would book in advance and would 100% go again and recommend to anyone!

Very good visit, had around 3 hours+ on site, only animals we didn't see were the Wolf's & Coos otherwise a good place to visit. Staff we came into contact with were very nice and helpful, we managed to be at the Polar Bear 🐻's when May have a talk on the P/Bears only to find 2 of them were from The Yorkshire Wildlife Park 7 miles from where we live in Doncaster...👍👍👍👍

I wanted to try thier gluten free options as I've just become gluten intolerant. They had quite a good selection to choose from. I had the trio of roasts and my other half had the vegetable grill. The waitress "Chloe" was really nice and very helpful. Our food didn't take long to get to us after ordering. I finished the whole plate full and really enjoyed it. Thank you Red lion. We had a fantastic meal with a good range of options at a reasonable price for a family of 5. The staff were attentive and friendly. Waited in the bar way past the time of our booking and had to ask staff if our table was ready as they didn’t come and get us. Restaurant was not overly busy. My husband and I both ordered a beef roast. Vegetables and Yorkshire pudding were nice but roast beef was grisly and inedible. My husband asked for steak knives as we couldn’t cut through the beef which he mentioned to a member of staff who seemed unconcerned when it was mentioned. There was no usual check that everything was ok. Husband struggled on with his beef and ate it but I couldn’t eat mine even though by then we were both very hungry. When our meal was collected and we reported again that it wasn’t ok the staff member apologised but queried why my husband had eaten his. A staff discount was taken off as I couldn’t eat mine but honestly for the price it was a complete letdown. A staff member also dropped some cutlery on the floor and picked it up and wiped it on his sleeve! Large cobweb across the window where we were sitting as well. I had the fish (which was large with lovely crispy batter) and great chips. There was a very good selection of draught beers. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. There is a large Council run car park next to the inn with very reasonable charges during the day. We visited this Inn early evening on the 7th of October 2025 on the recommendation of our landlady at the Stansted Hall Farm guesthouse which is just a few miles away. She also had directed us to Lavenham as an interesting historical place to visit. This is certainly true with the houses, shops and church wonderful buildings to see (if you're that way inclined).

What really has my back up is the Vegan Burger which is titled "Vegan Burger" on their menu does in fact contain egg and milk in the brioche bun. This is dangerous, I said as much. I kindly explained that some people with allergies will order from the vegan menu to avoid milk/egg for allergy reasons. So, yes very disappointed with the lack of choice for vegans but also shocked at the misleading food items which could cause serious harm. I paid £18.20 for the curry and a Heineken Zero. The curry was unfortunately a very small portion and the same size as a microwave meal. For this price I was hoping for a naan bread or bhaji.

Booked a table the day before. It's a lovely traditional old English pub inside. Not too brightly lit. I had the crispy pork belly with stilton mash and spinach, it was delicious. They do village nights burger and a pint at a reasonable price and lots of events and festivals. It is quite a formal looking place but apart from being called sir which I am not used to you don't feel out of place not being as smartly dressed as the staff. It has a huge outside space as well a few places to tuck into a patio bar and big beer garden. Lovely lodge booked with a stunning view and great facilities, it has the most beautiful bath! Great comfy bed and great quality towels and toiletries, cleaning was excellent too! Black pudding in breakfast lacked taste, told staff member, pork steak dinner was tough and bland, late with delivering side to dinner, butternut squash pasta had no flavour what so ever and I couldn’t taste the Parmesan. What made this even more frustrating was is that I tried to get the attention of 3 staff on shift to ask for more Parmesan without any joy! Had empty drinks too, so went to the bar my self to order drinks! Appreciated they made a veggie dish with chicken though. Appreciate they took off side and acknowledged the issue with the pasta by reducing bill all a little disappointing as treat away for birthday and at start of week so not even busy!!! Food looks nice but lacks flavour.

Today I had the hot smoked salmon Caesar salad which had no smoked flavour and the Caesar dressing also lacked flavour. I then chose apple tart tatin which was a nice enough tart but smothered in that old favourite (but not mine, and very ordinary, verging on cheap tasting) toffee sauce. It completely drowned out the tart and for ten pounds I expected something better. It came with Calvados ice cream which was just slightly boozy tasting. We had a decent glass of wine, but expensive at £14, and coffee. Altogether a not particularly tasty, pub food quality meal.

Couldn't be changed until the following day apparently! Went down for breakfast on Saturday morning at about 8:30 (breakfast served from 8 - 10). No staff apart from the cleaner. Reviews are about opinions, and not everyone agrees with them. However, we were accompanied by our dog, and all of us were welcomed by John, the owner. Preliminaries over, we were shown to our room, and as you might expect in Lavenham, there was a wealth of charm and character throughout (and characters, too, including 'F & F' (an in-joke. Came here for breakfast/brunch after going the Long Melford to Sudbury walk. We had 2 breakfasts and 2 coffees. One Latte, one Flat White. The coffees weren’t what they were advertised. So bitter and not a flat white. The breakfasts were okay. The bacon was lovely and so were the Hash Browns. However, the toast was burnt and the eggs were overcooked. They did not have a runny yolk. The beans came in a separate pot which was great, but they were cold. The sausage just didn’t feel or taste premium enough and the centre wasn’t warm. Should have been hot, so felt under cooked. Overall a very very disappointing experience. To make things worse, they ask you to leave a tip before you’ve even received your meal! How can I tip on a basis of not even knowing how my food is or even how the staff are going to be. We didn’t get asked how our meal was, otherwise we would have told them the issues. I won’t be returning or recommending. My friend was eating at the same place and I spoke to him afterwards to get his views. He said he felt the same. He didn’t enjoy his food either.

Their dog- an extremely large and excitable one- was off the lead, running in and out of the pub while the owners were sitting outside. The staff were completely reasonable in asking for the dog to be put in the lead. The only alternative to fries/chips were boiled potatoes which had been slightly broken up. They were tasteless and had no butter, though it was provided when I requested. The fish came with a hunk of lemon...no sauce ( a nice lemon sauce or similar would have been appreciated) to enhance its lack of flavour. A bowl of equally boring steamed vegetables arrived to finish off the main event. And one bowl between 4 of us was not appreciated, it felt like we had to count out the carrots etc to be fair to one another. I haven't been to such a pretentious restaurant for years. The only course I would recommend would be the cheese one which one of my friends tucked into with gusto. It's a telling sign when the tastiest course on the menu is purchased from a cheesemonger! And whose idea was it to adorn the loos with photos of males and females half naked. Not an appetising sight after an unappetising meal. Scutchers - 'All fur coat and no knickers'!

Service was great didn’t feel rushed at all even when the restaurant was busy later on during the night (around 7, we got there at half 5.) Atmosphere and vibe was good too they clearly are liked round the town as restaurant was busy and lots of takeaways/phone calls. Only complaints were the portion sizes were a tad small, my chicken tikka masala only had around 6 bits of chicken and the vegetable curry for the biryani was in a small dish. Other than that very nice restaurant would come back, staff very friendly and helpful too. Good pricing considering we had a fair bit to drink.

The staff were incredibly accommodating and generous in helping my hens bring their vision to life. Nothing was too much of a hassle and we felt super welcome - the team at Oranges and Lemons made it all really special. We went a a family of six, extremely slow service and almost every dish was overcooked apart from the vegetable curry where the vegetables weren’t even cooked at all. Last night we decided to try again as we understand the place has had a change of management. Sadly the food was again terrible. Not authentic in any way. Every dish seemed to have added sugar, tandoori dishes were painted in red food dye and not cooked in a tandoor as described. Paneer dishes with no paneer in them. Butter chicken with little bits of shredded chicken and again sweet with sugar. Look up recipes for these dishes and none of them are authentic. The staff are what make this communial watering hole very special and friendly. Every time I've been, there's a top quality food van ranging from Wagu Burger to Mussels and Frites. We would have an annual date night of the 'bucket' of wings (used to be a massive bowl!), some beer, whilst watching the Six Nations. We popped in for lunch and loved it there was plenty of seating inside and out with shade. The menu had so much choice from main meals to lighter options and sandwiches etc as well as a good range of drinks. We ordered the mushroom bruschetta and the Mediterranean quiche both were very tasty and good size portions.... however the bruchsetta was the clear winner! Service was great! We popped to see the animals after and wander in the farm shop. The farm shop had lots if great choice from fresh produce to cakes to frozen meals and fish will definitely be coming back to eat and to shop!!

The car park is big with disabled parking the outside of the cafe was clean and very tidy which was a very good start for us it says alot. When we walked inside, we were greeted straight away by staff and given an option of tables to sit at as walk-in customers, another good thing in our eyes. We sat at table 23 window view. The cafe was very clean and tidy throughout 10/10, the staff member who served us was very polite and friendly took our drink order and gave us menu's to look at the cheater ordered a chocolate and topping which look amazing as you will see from the picture of it. I had a cup of coffee . Cheater ordered the beef sandwich with salad and fries, and as you will see from the picture, it looked gorgeous . I had the BLT with side salad and crisps, which I have to say was the best to date I have eaten . to top it off, I had the tropical carrot cake OMG again OMG it was fantastic. The price of lunch for 2 adults was £34 which I think is great value . So overall, it's a must stop place to go for lunch. Don't drive past on your way to long Melford . friendly staff, the cafe is very clean and tidy outside and in. Next door to the cafe is a farm shop again clean and tidy inside and out. We wanted a place to celebrate our mums 90th birthday, so obviously we wanted to do something very special for her. We arranged to meet the manager a couple of months before and were met with such care and helpfulness that we were already thinking this was the place, we were also offered a tea or coffee as we at down. The manger talked us through what they could offer and showed us the room, at that point we both knew it was a perfect place to celebrate mums birthday. On the day we delivered our cakes and decorations, which they offered to put up for us and asked if we would like two of their large leather armchairs in the room for mum and her friend to use. On our arrival the room was set out just perfectly and the food was starting to be put out on the table. The party went without a hitch and our mum had a lovely time, we would definitely recommend Painters as a great place to have a celebration, but also pop in for a drink and something to eat.
