The food is unbelievable. It is exactly what it presents itself to be, traditional dishes with a modern twist. We had a beef profiterole, scallops and as mains chicken supreme and beef cheek. It was fantastic. All the components in the dishes were complimenting each other, the horseradish sauce was brilliant. We also had a nice bottle if Italian primitivo, great wine selection overall. Its a bit pricey but totally worth it. Also what really pleased me is that service charge was not added onto the bill. You were not expected to pay it, which obviously makes you happy to add it on considering the quality of the service. One thing that stood out to me were these tiny towels in the bathroom. We stayed for 3 nights....definitely NOT worth £110 a night! The en-suite was small and awkwardly laid out, we burnt our knees on the towel rail when sat on the toilet! The mattress was very uncomfortable so we decided to turn it over. BIG mistake as it was very stained on both sides. On the second day I made the mistake of laying on the floor to look for an item that had fallen off the bedside cabinet (cabinet was broken and everything rolled off it.) The carpet absolutely stunk, and to my horror there was the BIGGEST ball of human hair behind the chair I'd ever seen! Looks like it had been there a while....clearly the chair hadn't been pulled out to clean behind recently. The glass was broken on the window and sellotaped up, not the best look for a place of such good reputation. I gashed my arm whilst in the shower, the soap dispenser had VERY sharp edges. I informed a member of staff who immediately got the manager (Danny) but he didn't seem too interested and seemed to think it was my own fault when I showed him the problem. He gave me a plaster but never mentioned it again throughout our stay, never asking if my arm was ok. Pretty bad customer service. A totally different experience from when we stayed in 2015 where nothing was too much trouble and cleanliness seemed to be of a much higher standard. On a positive note....breakfast was delicious and GREAT views from the dining room. We won't be staying again unfortunately.

We had 1 starter two main and a bottle of wine. Even though the food was very nice we did think a tad expensive. We never had anyone check to see if our food was nice or to see if we needed anything else. The restaurant was not busy. At £28 for a bottle of house wine it would have been nice to have been asked if we wanted it opening/ pouring but just got it left on our table. Tbh the staff didn’t seem jolly or interested. The walls were marked and could have done with a bit of fresh decoration. But couldn’t fault the food we had. Asked for the bill but after waiting a while we put our coats on and had to go to the bar as our bill never turned up. Our bill had a service charge added so check this as you don’t have to pay it! The bedroom was spacious, tastefully decorated and the bed was incredibly comfy. The bathroom is a little dated, but it is clean and a good size. There is customer parking at the pub. All staff we interacted with were so personable and friendly. The restaurant had a lovely feel and vibes were super relaxed and welcoming, again cannot fault this! The food was cooked perfectly, but only cooked… All of the dishes lacked any seasoning or flavour, which was really disappointing as presentation was good, and like I said everything was cooked to perfection, the broccoli al dente, steak perfectly medium rare, pasta perfectly boiled, but absolutely zero flavour in the dishes at all. It has been the same owner in the 15 years we have lived in Cumbria & he's a lovely man and always runs a great service. After a previous poor visit we were pleasantly surprised to now find that it's under new management and the fish is all cooked to order now! The portion size was decent and lovely tasting, and I must say that actually the curry sauce was probably the best I've ever had from a chip shop. The check in was smooth we were greeted by Luke who is very polite and showed us to our room. The room was spotlessly clean thanks to Carrissa the cleaner with a great bathroom including huge walk in shower but the best bit is the view of the lake I could never get board of that. We stayed in room 8. The bar 🍻 was great as well lovely and cosy again with fantastic service from Luke who by the way does the most amazing cocktails. We were literally just a few steps from the restaurants and eateries but the Angel Inn just down the road 5 mins walk does delicious food and also Mio Mondo 2 mins walk away for the best breakfasts and toasties. The lake is also just at the bottom of the road we recommend you do the boat 🚢 trip. We would most definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone. It was a Sunday evening and the table was confirmed for 8pm. Upon arrival the restaurant looked lovely but was very quiet with just one table of 4 dining. The waiter was very pleasant and brought a birthday card and prosecco over for the husband to acknowledge his birthday, which was a nice touch. Unfortunately once seated we were advised the restaurant had sold out of many items and when looking at the menu there were other items missing that we had seen online. Really go and have a nice chat with them and give it a go on everything that interests you. You'll never get disappointed there. Ok so it has a small serving area but I've seen smaller cafes do better. Everything was served in single use plastic or 'paper' trays (plastic lined paper trays for sure) which is so lazy and a lack of thought for the environment when throwing everything away like that. But of course it save staff costs washing up which seems to be the name of the game these days. The scones were like shop bought, in fact not even that good! They were dry. We really enjoyed the food it was delicious and made our travel all the way from ulverston worth coming. For starter we had potatoes which was lovely just slightly cold though. For main we had pizza and pasta, pasta was absolutely delicious, it had such great flavours, very yummy. We had the Sunday roast. The ptotatoes were hard and dry. The meat was warm and quite tough. The broad beans had no flavor. The carrots were okay. The bread was good and the deserts quite flavourful. Sadly we will not return anytime soon. I think when chef's expand their empire, especially at the top end, it's very hard to replicate the food experience . Simon is dependant on his chef's to reproduce his recipes, sadly this is not the case here.

Having heard great things we were not disappointed. As soon as we arrived the staff were fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the menu and pairing wine. We had dietary requests and again they were fantastic catering to our requirements. The restaurant was spacious and as it filled had a great atmosphere. The chefs culinary skills are exquisite. We didn’t want the meal to end every mouthful enjoying the flavours and textures. The food, its local source is part of the story of Henrock. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Lake District. Realistically, it’s closer to a 3-star experience. During our stay, the room wasn’t cleaned and basic items like loo roll weren’t topped up. The lounge had a noticeable smell of cigarette smoke, and the lift buttons weren’t working, which was inconvenient with a pram. For the price, the overall standard felt quite expensive for what was provided. There was also no ramp into reception, which made it difficult to get in with a pram, and the side door we tried to use didn’t work. The bathroom also had black mould in the shower and the bedroom had mould on the window ledges, which was disappointing. Another concern was the entrance to the hotel, the same steep road is used by both cars and pedestrians, which felt quite sketchy and not very safe. On the positive side, breakfast was very nice, and the hotel staff were genuinely lovely and helpful throughout our stay. With some improvements, this could be a much better experience, but at the moment it doesn’t reflect a 5-star rating

The whole hotel was stunning and the staff were amazing from start to finish. We were greeted at reception with a glass of Prosecco, which was such a lovely touch. Our only complaint was that the shower was temperamental and would stop working whilst using, once we told the reception staff they were really apologetic and told us they would have it looked into. A special mention to Patrick, the concierge – he was absolutely brilliant. When we arrived, he gave us a tour of the hotel, made us feel so welcome, and went above and beyond throughout our stay. He arranged the Bentley to take us into town, and gave us great recommendations for things to do to make our weekend extra special. One of our favourite go to places when in the lakes. How things have changed. There's £51 completely wasted. And furthermore we won't ever be going again. The picture is of a meatball pizza. It was almost cold when served and the base beyond burnt as you can see. The meatballs if that's what they were, rock hard, cold and unpleasant to the taste. My wife ate what she could and eventually gave up. I had the Tap bar smoky burger, £16. Thrown together with a couldn't care less what I'm serving attitude for both dishes. I ate the burger which supposedly had pulled pork in it, didn't spot that. I ate mine because I was starving but complained about the pizza. The manager gave me his most sincere 'I'm listening' look and then offered me drink as if that would compensate for this diabolical eating experience. I would of witheld payment of part of the bill but had paid upfront because we were dining outside. The manager clearly had no intention of offering any refund and we left vowing never to return. As an after thought perhaps if the manager was a little more attentive in actually managing the establishment these issues may not arise. However he seemed more interested in sitting in the outdoor seating smoking with the innumerable friends who had turned up. Eating out is very expensive these days and we tend to go, when we can justify the spend to places we have had good food and a good experience.
