I was seated near the bar which was good. The mixed grill was lovely but needs to be served with a sauce and the onions need caramelising more before hitting the skillet, the meet was lovely and the paratha was nice. Meal for 6 of us for sister in-laws 50th. Managed to get a car park space at the back but not many so parking on the street is next if full. A beautiful cottage building and nice reception area with bar for a pre drink and look through the extensive menu, plenty of choices something now lacking in other restaurants. We were taken to our table through one room and into the one with the lovely open fire, all tables were full and a 60th on the go. The girls served fresh warm bread and then the meals 3 courses inclusive and coffee and tea afterwards even an Irish coffee. Food was excellent, plentiful and well presented. Best meal for a long time and we weren't rushed. Price is thought was also excellent value. Would highly recommend and certainly will go back.

First time we called half an hour before we wanted to try this restaurant, with no surprise now it was all fully booked. Half year later we called early morning and there was a free table. Heard rumours how good and how tasty the food is at Cherry Tree. And I can’t recommend this places enough. The service was amazing - you walk in a little waiting area, they offer you a drink then introduce you to the menu and then you order. Once your drink is finished they take you to your table and food comes quite quickly. They come and check if you’re happy with everything and you don’t have to wait between courses, pretty much as soon as you are finished they come and offer you your next meal. Very busy which you would expect on Father's day. Plenty of staff working but no-one with any kind of clue about being attentive to customers. Lots of plate/table clearing going on though. Initially we were handed main menus, but I advised we had already pre-ordered the Sunday lunch (which I had received a phone call and 2 emails asking me to pre-order). The server came back with the Sunday lunch menus and I said again we had pre- ordered but could we have 3x onion bhaji's and our drinks. Our meals although pre-ordered took ages to come out. I'd say about 30 mins. They forgot 1x bhaji which we had to ask twice more for. Dinner looked amazing! Huge portions! Lamb was divine! The veg was quite under cooked which some people would like. We would have preferred it softer though. Plates cleared quickly once we finished. We asked for the dessert menu as the Sunday lunch is 2 courses. Dessert again was lovely. We went up to the counter to pay as no-one seemed to be checking in on us. The bill was not right and was not charged as advertised with 2 courses so we disputed. They quickly fixed it and took off the desserts. When I got home though, I checked and realised they'd charged for an extra onion bhaji... Lovely food, Service could be better.

They were really friendly and came over to check on us multiple times. We sat in the bar and the service was good. We ordered a beef sandwich for £16 and well to say we were disappointed is an understatement. The sandwich was freezing cold and had obviously been batch made and sat in a fridge. The thin white bread was only buttered on one side with nothing else on the other side of the sandwich. Little bit of rocket and a spattering of dressing with a few crisps. Honestly I’ve had a better prepared sandwich with more effort put into it from Greggs. Everybody was blown away by the service and the dishes we were served. The taster menu was perfect to sample a wide variety of dishes, and the portions were very generous. We arrived at 5.30 on Saturday evening. Our order was taken at about 6pm. An hour and a quarter later, we were still waiting for our food. My sister in law had a butter milk chicken steak that was so overcooked she could barely get her fork through it. We’d also asked for condiments when the meals eventually came out. I was handed a bottle of vinegar which can only be describe as vintage, with bits floating at the bottom. We eventually got them when we’d pretty much finished eating. The restaurant continued to fill up despite the clear lack of capacity to get any food out on time and cooked properly. The whole situation was absolutely calamitous. At about 7.45 the waitress (who we felt so sorry for, being left alone to deal with a roomful of disgruntled diners) came in to announce that the kitchen was now closed!!!!! The chef had walked out after an altercation with the waiting and bar staff. There is so much more I could add but given that the manager took half off our bill, I will refrain from doing so. The whole experience was embarrassing. I am perplexed to see the managers responses to various poor reviews saying that improvements have been made, when the quite obviously have not!!! He and his wife actually turned up as we were leaving. Neither of them approached us to apologise, we were simply ignored. Such a shame as we have been coming here for years but we will not be returning.

Jess was superb in every way and the chef kindly agreed to adjust things to adapt to my carnivore requests! If you see my other reviews I'm a big fan of chicken wings and will usually always order them if I'm a menu. My wife also likes them so we decided to get the sharer portion of Korean wings. I'm not sure who the chef is here but these were not in any way shape or form Korean flavoured. If I remember correctly they were advertised as having Gochujang sauce. The wings themselves were completely bland,.had been cooked in the oven clearly without any seasoning so they looked pale (and even though they weren't) uncooked which was off putting. The sauce was more like a sweet and sour sauce from a bottle. Prob Encona. Not nice at all due to the texture. For comparison I took a picture of the wings as advertised Vs what we got (see pics) it's really not difficult to make appetising wings these days especially if you have an air fryer / deep fat fryer. The rest of the food we ordered (truffle tater tots and beef tortilla) was ok but nothing great to be honest. It seems like the pizza here might be the way to go as other diners had ordered those but who knows. It's a nice venue and staff were friendly but there are issues in the kitchen here for sure. Sadly don't recommend

This historic coaching inn is in what is now a quiet village is definitely worth a visit/ overnight stay.

We have never waited so long to be served, get our dinner and pay a bill that was incorrect. We were also sat right at the back on a table of 2, we felt extremely abandoned by the waitresses even though they walked past us 100 times. There were also 3 waitresses to clear and clean 1, 2 person table when we were clearly waiting. As we were dining out, and being waitresses, we should be waited on. Totally worth it and absolutely incredible. I stayed here as a little treat as I was attending an event in Stamford at The William Cecil's sister venue The Bull & Swan. I have never stayed at The William Cecil before and I regret this as our room was stunning! Better than I could've imagined, I am obsessed with how each space in the hotel has its own colour and feel, the décor of the entire hotel is simply exquisite. Our room was spacious, comfortable and had so many amazing little touches I could write an essay on how well the staff and management here clearly understand the guest experience! From home made cookies to the toiletries and the radio that doubled as a speaker. Oh also it feels so rare to have a room with a mini fridge these days so that is always a bonus! We we're lucky enough to stay in a room with a roll top bath in the bedroom which did not disappoint. The bed was incredibly comfortable as well. Honestly I can not compliment the hotel enough. I haven't even mentioned how kind, attentive and well mannered all the staff we're too from the moment we arrived to check out. Cocktails Saturday night we're brilliant, breakfast on the Sunday morning was also fantastic and the service was lovely. Wish I could give them more stars :) Definitely worth a visit even if you're not staying here just pop in to see the beautiful décor and enjoy a drink on their terrace or in their lounge. We stayed for one night en route to Yorkshire. The room was very clean and comfortable . The shower was great. Evening meal in the restaurant was very enjoyable although a little pricey, but we thought worth it I would perhaps have preferred my pie with shortcrust pastry but that's my own preference. Portion sizes are very good, menu choice was fantastic for starters, mains and desserts. All cooked fresh and very hot and tasty. During a summer busy summer visit we were met by a Donna (waitress) she was absolutely lovely and couldn’t do enough to help me and my family. The food generally tasted good but there were issues. Portion size for the Macaroni Cheese was very small, it was an option as both a starter and main, but apparently what we were given was a Main (as requested) , which I felt was very small, see photo below. When it arrived it was almost cold and this is the first time I've ever sent food back. It was promptly replaced and was hot. The Steak was decent as were the sides. Good selection of ales and lagers etc. Staff were friendly. Some poor points though as follows. Water was not offered nor was butter with our bread, we had to ask for these. We both ordered the most expensive Sunday Lunch which was called the Trio but the pork crackling was missing because they had run out. No alternative was offered or no reduction in price for this missing portion of our meal. Poor customer care really on that part. It's a part of a chain of pubs owned by a big hospitality company so I suspect that not much of the food is actually fully home cooked or prepared onsite like most of these other big pub and restaurant chains where the bulk of what they serve is produced in large central kitchens, shipped out and then just reheated at the venue. I much prefer family owned pubs and restaurants where your food is all actually made and cooked there onsite and the food always tastes a lot better. Either way I'd still recommend this pub.

The place does need some minor fixes and touch of paint as you can notice the wear evidently. The atmosphere when quiet lacks the music and relaxed atmosphere the restaurant used to carry. I think the old look, feel and was much a better and timeless look of a typical Bistro vs the new refurb look. Ordering starters for her (as a main) and a starter and main for myself. While the start was ok for myself, it had taken over 25 minutes for a pan fried steak and frites, what was even worse was that both the waitress assistant manager were aware I had a main after both they had taken my starter plate and only being a few metres away at the bar talking, prepping mint and looking at their monitor, I notified both of them once about my next course to which a nod was made and nothing else. Customer service when busy is understandable, but when quiet should be a priority especially when it is a quick lunchtime fix. After seeing they had brought my steak with another set of customers who arrived 20 minutes after us, I realised that my food would have sat there and been brought out in same time to save on workload. After refusing the steak and having to leave, I got asked if I wanted a teak away, to a piece of pan fired steak that, to be honest looked like rubber. The lack of awareness and initiative from the junior staff was so poor. I wouldn’t even go for coffee here again (have before and it’s average compared to the mediocre offering in Peterborough, so it’s not really saying much.) Maybe it’s an off day at the restaurant, maybe since the buy out, refurb and change of staff they have a new way of working, but the business as a whole was a lot better in its old aesthetic and feel and especially service.

We had a gift experience voucher and I was initially disappointed that the menu available with the voucher was so limited but Monica recommended a dish she liked and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
