This one is okay but not the best. That to me is still on the Isle of Skye. Just for the fact in June was an easy place to go at the time was okay. On my fish there was a big chunk of batter with no fish, the fish also tasted a bit stale as if it was an older and not so fresh fish. The dessert however was delicious. Couldn't fault the staff on helpfulness even when we decided we needed to change tables and service was impeccable. In my opinion it is an okay place to go but not the best fish and chips considering the price, this needs working on.

The quality of the fish is excellent, and the portion sizes are generous. The chips are fairly standard, similar to what you'd find at most fish and chip shops, not my personal favourite, but still decent. The halloumi and cod sandwiches are just as good as the classic fish and chips, and the fish bites are a great option for kids. We ended up coming here two days in a row, it never disappointed! Didn’t seem to be much room inside for eating but a nice outdoor garden (which has a huge awning with heaters for those slightly chilly evenings - unless it’s windy then the canopy retracts) A more than decent selection of options and some excellent specials. After scouting out a venue that provided both meat and vegetarian options, it was recommended that we come to the black swan, and we are so glad to have visited. Have wanted to go there for a while and we weren't disappointed. Great to see an open kitchen. The staff were young but very efficient and friendly, and didn't rush. We went there for my birthday yesterday and I cannot fault it. The menu is extensive, but in no way overwhelming. We opted for a selection of nibbles, rather than two starters, and I am glad we did, as it gives you the opportunity to sample a wider range. All the food was outrageously tasty and beautifully presented. The service was utterly impeccable - one of our waiters has worked there for 11 years! - and the views/location are definitely some of the best in the UK. Dogs are very welcome, and all the staff made such a fuss of our two little Pugs. Would I go back? The biggest YES ever! This restaurant scores a perfect 10/10 from me in every respect. Aside from the stunning views over Poole Harbour, both the setting and the food felt underwhelming. The atmosphere lacked warmth, character, and flavour. Watching dogs drool on tables while being fed by their owners is far from acceptable, and we certainly did not appreciate having to look at a dog’s backside for the duration of our meal. However, be aware that there is no parking at the site, but, there is a 200 metre walk from a National Trust car park that charges £5 for non-members. We hadn’t booked & being only two of us we tried our luck as it was the first day of Carnival. They were most welcoming & showed us to a comfy table for two. It's clearly very popular, especially with families, and that makes perfect sense as the staff are friendly and the food tasty. What you're looking at is an old-school, family-owned Italian restaurant that offers a short but classic menu with all of the greatest hits. The food itself is nicely prepared and enjoyable but not fancy. It is, however, somewhat on the expensive side at £20-25 per head without alcohol. Still it's nice to visit somewhere that isn't all about fried food or other seaside delights and we certainly never felt rushed despite the restaurant being packed out. So if you prefer to dine well over a harbour view then La Trattoria will see you right.

Bed sheets and towels fab and given the number of small tiles the shower could have been forgiven for a little bit of mould in the corners. There was none it was perfect. Really, I would not have been that impressed at half the price. We were asked if we wanted our dessert in the foyer - if ever there was a way to make customers feel like they were being told where to go, that was it. I hope other PIGS are better as I'd feel sorry for people if that's the level of service they expect when paying that much money (and the reputation of the PIGS). Love the setting as Dorset is my favourite part of the UK, but plenty of other places to eat with excellent food without the hype and price tag. Also, parking is so badly signposted that people end up having to pay for the NT car parks nearby, and having done so only then realise there is a massive car park that serves the hotel/restaurant (not just for guests). Once you have your pasty and your pint and you don't fancy sitting outside you have two options turn right and walk into the old Mason's Lodge from which the pub takes its name or turn left and wlak down past the booths on the left and into the museum where you will be able to sit down enjoy your pint and sit amongst the fossils of dinosaurs that have been found locally to the pub don't be surprised if you turn around and find a bite has been taken out of your sausage roll, there is also a large box of toy dinosaurs in here ro feel free to recreate your favourite scenes from the Jurassic Park films with friends. I said at the start this is the best pub in Britain and I meant it whenever I am anywhere near to the Swanage Area I will go out of my way to swing by the Square and Compass for a pint a sausage roll and a chill out and you should too. It’s been newly renovated so feels new and clean. The downstairs lounge, bar and room for breakfast are welcoming with lovely views overlooking the beach. There is a pool, hot tub, sauna & gym downstairs which is used by members of the public as well as hotel guests. It clearly hasn’t been renovated but is still nice! We had a budget double bedroom which was still a good size with a lovely bathroom & walk-in shower. We got engaged whilst in Swanage! A family member contacted the hotel secretly to tell them and the staff kindly gave us complimentary Prosecco - thank you! Would highly recommend a stay here.

Room was small but functional with creaking floorboards and I could hear someone close by snoring. Dinner stopped early and breakfast started late we were working and so missed both. Our rooms were to the front had no view but at the rear it's elevated on a cliff and the sea views look amazing.

Funnily enough the frontage is just a little tired and doesn't really tell you how nice it is inside, but it is great. I always visit when I'm im Swanage as my usual camp is within walking distance to the restaurant. Food was excellent every time I ordered. This is still 5 stars and one of my personal favourites. It’s a small restaurant with limited seating and is mainly a takeout. There are three Indian restaurants in Swanage of which Nihal does the best curry, but all three are decent and have their own strengths and weaknesses. Masala tends to do smaller portions, but is very central to the beach. Golden Bengal is generally just nice and is easier for people staying at the back of town. Nihal is superior to the other two in flavour, you get a good selection on there menu. I personally love the chef specials, really tasty dishes and if you like it hotter, just ask and they are accommodating. The one thing people need to be aware of is they prefer payment in cash, they have started taking cards though if you want a discount take cash in with you. There is adequate parking opposite. The staff are absolutely lovely. Welcoming, friendly and helpful. We arrived with a very lively 2 year old and our table had a (clean) high chair. There is a limit garden space with a child activity set up which is broken. But there are plenty of outside tables and benches and a boardwalk which is nicely laid out. We ordered and were able to sit outside before we were called in to say our food was ready. The service time was good. The menu is varied and well priced. There were several 'specials ' and a childrens menu with beans or peas! (So often no form of vegetables are included) The atmosphere is very much like a club house, comfortable and uninspiring, without any character. It is very family and dog friendly! Some of the seating needs recovering. The toilet facilities are excellent. The food was well cooked and tasty. We had pie with vegetables and the 2 year old had slightly over cooked fishfingers, chips and beans. Why vegetables cannot be offered with a childs portion is a mystery to me. Although to be fair, we did not ask. We would go again, especially now we know where it is! It was straightforward food for a good price. The restaurant is nice and large with nautical decor - fairly pleasant place to sit and eat your meal. The ordering screens are a little impersonal - I chose to order at the counter for personal service and they could also answer my questions about the menu. Service was ok - not unfriendly but not above and beyond the call of duty. Staff seemed a little bored but to be fair the restaurant was almost empty and there were few customers coming in. The food was not served to table - the order was called out and I had to go to the counter to collect. Food was served in a plastic basket with wooden knife and fork which I collected myself. The fish was passable and fairly nice although no extra large size option - just small or regular (I ordered regular). The chips let the meal down. They tasted overcooked, too crunchy, as if they had been standing for too long, which I suspect they had, not fluffy and soft on the inside like the best fish-and-chip shop chips. So all in all ~ I did consider giving the overall rating a three with a three for food but the overall experience was just too underwhelming. It was edible but with all things combined just sadly did not live up to expectations. However I did notice there was a battered mars bar available which I have been trying to find at fish and chip shops for years. I didn’t try it on this occasion but may give it another go in future and order the battered mars bar too ~ with a little more friendly customer service and fresh chips this place will be vastly improved. Price was reasonable ~ just over £20 with two cans of drink, ketchup, home-made tartare sauce (which was delicious - the highlight of the meal), mushy peas (passable) and curry sauce (tasted like spicy watery gravy) although I’d recommend paying slightly more at The Fish Plaice around the corner and getting a better quality meal. Still, let’s hope some improvements are made and this restaurant improves.

A darker interior with some softer, ambient lighting designed to create the atmosphere one expects in a restaurant these days.. it definitely is not this. Your little table candle had absolutely no effect at all against your strong florescent LED bright ceiling lighting. The whole experience felt to me like I was eating my grandmothers dinner in a dentist's waiting room.! I'm sorry to be so harsh but the other reviews I had read before booking our table did not tell it like I found it to be. I want to make sure that other discerning diners are fully aware of what they are getting and paying for. Unfortunately It was not possible to raise these concerns at the time. One does not want to cause a scene in a small, very quiet restaurant in front of other diners sitting very close. And putting them and us in a difficult and embarrassing position. We booked rooms here last minute in July, had the "pleasure" of staying in 2 different family rooms, hands down the worst rooms we have every stayed in, anywhere. We usually use one around corner but due to mums difficulty in walking we didn’t. The prices are reasonable with for a large cod was just £10 and it fed both me and my mum. The chip pots don’t look like a great size but again fed me, mum and my son so take from what you will. The fish was freshly cooked. The fish flaky and moist. Not oily or dry. The batter crunchy and not over powering on the fish. The chips also fresh were crunchy and fluffy. I would have taken a photo but I ate all the evidence! I have to say I’m glad we did! I can only eat small amounts so ordered their small cod and chips, and hubby had 2 battered sausages and regular chips, which came to around £17. The food was absolutely awful — and ridiculously overpriced for what you get. We ordered two pit trays. The veggie option my daughter had in all fairness is marginally cheaper but still overpriced for what is essentially a few chips and a small piece of veg. The food was all freshly home cooked, the beef was as tender as could be, portion sizes were plentiful and there was an assortment of 9-10 vegetables to accompany the meat. Service was as friendly and pleasant as you could want. This is not just the best place to go for a roast in Swanage but Dorset and wider afield too.
