Once again we were lucky enough to get the table for 2 next to the pass, so we saw everyone else’s dishes as well as our own. Crab and sardine starters were superb, my wife’s stuffed sole was great, my lobster came in a bowl of the most delicious liquid I have ever tasted. It’s great to find a seafood restaurant that just does seafood, and there are always multiple things that temp on a changing menu. You will need to book ahead (we took a guess when we would be sailing in to Portland and adjusted our trip to make sure we could be here). If you love seafood you will love this place. Beer prices are in my opinion over the top for the beers on offer, off shore is £6.70 a pint as are others I'd except something a little more intresting at that price. Staff work incredibly hard and efficiently massive respect to them. It's a large venue and the noise is painful along with dim lighting I don't think I could return and mange the headache it gave me. Plus you get a great view of the harbour/bridge. I have never had a bad meal. However I will say the staff need to take cleaning a little more seriously (hence the 3 stars). Two hours after originally arriving, Chef Eric came over to our table and then chatted to us about some of the desserts and wines on offer, and for the first time in the evening, it actually felt like we were valued or made welcome, and considering our table of six spent nearly £350, I dont think this is good enough personally, not that it should matter how much you have spent. I think the food here is good, and I appreciate that every business has its bad days, but the whole experience was a bit of an anti climax, it felt unprofessional, the front of house was poorly run and the general ambience of the restaurant suffered because of this. I also overheard Chef Eric get into a dispute outside with a group of customers when he asked them their opinions on their experience, and they were not particularly satisfied either. If you pay higher end prices in a restaurant you expect quality food, drink, service and atmosphere. Unfortunately, the only thing that resembled any quality that night was the food. I would try here again to see if it was just a bad night for them, but I have eaten at many other similar priced restaurants over the years and the vast majority have been better.

My wife had the fisherman's pie, it was full of fish in a lovely white sauce. The homemade steak pie was large and came with mushy peas chips and gravy, in a separate gravy boat. From the moment I stepped out of the lift it went downhill, walls looked like scratched polystyrene, every door painted a very dark brown. OMG, a permanent unpleasant smell, cheap useless toilet tissue, no loo brush, shower curtain that sticks to your every move and not cleaned every day, only on the 4th morning of your stay!!! Cups only washed every 4th day but at least the hospitality tray was refreshed every day. The best I could say regarding the staff is that they weren’t rude. I am only sorry that I didn’t take any photos except the one below. And by the way, I’m not familiar with QR codes which explain things. Very professional, friendly and helpful). I've given location full stars as it's easy to get to and close enough to town to walk in. Their were definitely signs of age here and there showing mainly in spots of rust, the crack down the shower tray (worried about bacteria), the shower nozzle and the frayed bedroom curtain (looked like the sheer section had been eaten 😄). The reason I gave only 3 stars for rooms is mainly because of the mould we found in the kettle, lack of a view from the window (probably just unlucky but we could see a tin roof and the window of the room opposite us) and the linen (didn't quite smell fresh). Positives: the mattress was super comfy, their were biscuits laid out with the tea and coffee, was a hair dryer and Bible, and the headboard on the bed was very comfy. There was also a nice dressing table and a TV. I hated the toilet paper (very nice and recyclable but this meant it was also brown, thin and smelt funny). The bathroom had handsoap, body/hair soap and towels. Alsomworth mentioning how stiff and tall the pillow was and how spacious and clean the communal bathrooms on the reception floor were. The bedrooms were nice and quiet, though the bar and lounge certainly were not (but that's not surprising really considering how busy they were!) Pool looked good, smelt strongly of chlorine. I was very impressed with the staff and I think they would be what would persuade me to to come again.

What a shocking dissapointment. I dont even see a drip of sauce let alone smothered... when asking the server where the missing sauce was he just didnt care. Seen the gorgeous views from this pub over the Osmington White Horse on the beautiful surrounding hills. The Sunday Roast was excellent. The meat was tender. Only downside was that the Cauliflower Cheese was rather Al Dente, hard. The service was good and made to feel welcome. We liked the decor and the general feel and were sat in a lovely room to the back which gave us 180° view of the sea, the beach and the pier, which was lovely to see as the sun went down. Everything was cooked nicely - I had duck, although my personal preference is that it would be a little bit pink, and my colleague had the chicken. Puddings were also good. I did feel that the prices were ever-so slightly more, but not by much, and it was nice to not have an additional service charge forced upon us, meaning we could choose to tip if we wanted to and how much. Food was hot, tasty and delivered as promised, the menu offers good value for money as do the portion sizes. Service was prompt and friendly and the restaurant itself was clean, tidy and well presented. They have recently won a number of awards which they have (and rightly so) ensured are within view of the main dining areas. We went on a Tuesday night on one of the last days before the schools went back and they seemed fully booked as they were turning away walk-ins - which is a positive sign as it shows how popular this restaurant must be. Bit of a queue but efficient and friendly service. Perfect chips - nice crisp texture, thick cut and a nice golden brown colour. I had the locally caught mackerel fillets which had a great flavour and suited being bettered and fried as an alternative to cod haddock etc. Reasonable value at £12.35 for mackerel, chips and mushy peas. Over the years the food has been of a good quality and value for money. When my order come out I looked at was on my plate and was so upset I got a burger sat on 2 piece of little gem lettuce with 2 slices of tomatoes and a jacket potato which I didn't order i ordered the smashed potstoes the waitress explained that non gluten free battered fish etc had been cooked in the fryer used for gluten free, the burger with bacon and cheese the bacon was cooked to a crisp and looked like it had been warmed up in the microwave I went to cut into the burger and it was rock solid when I turnt the burger of it was completely burnt I refused to eat this. I was made a whole new meal, again I was being charged over 15 pounds for this meal. By the time I got my replacement meal my family had already eaten their meals so I was eating on my own. The manager Paul was great he gave us drinks on the house and refunded the whole bill. As a person who has a food allergy I feel that the gluten free menu could have a bit more choice and a bit more on the plate than what is offered. Very disappointed

We ordered items off of the new menu that the bar staff hadn't made before but she went out of her way to check what to do and made what we'd asked for with great attitude. We were 8 hungry men and were blown away by the superb food. In fact the whole experience was great, lovely friendly staff and tasteful decor. We seriously considered going there the next night too. The food is always fresh, full of flavour, and consistently excellent no matter what we order. The Balti Special Masala is an absolute standout – highly recommended! After so many visits, I honestly can’t see how anyone could rate this place less than five stars. A real favourite, with a welcoming atmosphere and well worth a visit every time.
