Despite the circumstances from the earthquake, I really enjoyed the aquarium. The large tank at the entrance and the corridor filled with multiple projectors were highlights. Experiencing the lack of running water during parts of the visit was eye-opening. When we first arrived the restrooms at the entrance had running water but by the time we left, it had been cut off. The aquarium also showcases their recovery efforts, which was quite moving. The ticket price was also reduced because of the lack of shows and some exhibits were closed. Only one restaurant and a small tuck shop were open during my visit. I am grateful since it must be hard to run when there's no running water.
Cool variety of fishes and animals but the conditions of the environment is old and sad 💔 The jellyfish have more room than most of the other animals. River otter exhibit is the worst because they have no visible water enrichment. It looked like they used to but maybe the 2024 earthquake caused it's removal. Even so it was over a year ago from today. They look desperate to play but they just sleep... Overcrowding in some tanks. Worst one was the sea turtles - 7 adult ones in 1 small tank. 💔💔 Even the seal tanks are very small. They were doing the same laps over and over around the tank. In the later half of the main aquatic building, there is not enough natural environments. They are barren and not that clean. Not even enough sand to cover the bottom 💔 The only area that looked good was the Sea Galleria with the projectors and maybe the room with the whale shark. Please put the turtles in the whale shark tank if they are compatible. They need to swim!!! Even the dolphin tunnel is abandoned. Not cleaned for ages and the dolphins are so bored they only stay in the corner at the viewing balcony. Looks like it used to be a cleaner aquarium years ago. Surprised no one else mentions these small and bad conditions. I know the earthquake affected a lot of infrastructure but these did not look like temporary locations for many of these fish and mammals. I am shocked to read that there used to be 2 whale sharks, I think 1 is the limit
This is an absolute gem in an already incredible country, well worth the somewhat detour it might require. Our family drove here in October as we had some hours to kill after checking out of our Kanazawa hotel, before we could check in at our next accommodation. Not expecting much, we were blown away by everything from the size and location of the facilities, to the sheer amount of animals, the friendly and enthusiastic staff, shows, etc. The aquarium is quite large with many, small and large, in-door and out-door tanks, located on the northern picturesque shore of Notojima, and you can easily spend a day, which will cost you less than a burger at sea world, Disneyland or similar. We cannot recommend this place enough, and would urge anyone to treat themselves to this hidden gem of Japan. Why not stop and eat some fresh fish on your way there or back, probably the best you’ll ever get.
The aquarium has long been a favorite of the locals, and you can see the whole place in about two hours. It is one of the few aquariums where whale sharks can be seen, and there are two whale sharks. The tanks are generally lowered to make it easier for children to see the exhibits. The dolphin show is a must-see, and although the pool is small in size, the dolphins' performance is spectacular. Infection control measures are taken, and parents and children will be able to look around in peace.
Considering the Noto earthquake 1+ year ago, this place is well-maintained/ renovated. As the location is quite out of the way, there’s no crowd so it’s suitable for a leisurely trip. Visiting the eateries is a strange experience because of the awesome lack of visitors. The place feels so lonely and a tad sad.
We arrived sorta late and walked fast so I only took us about 1 hour to finish the whole aquarium. (To enter the parking lot took us almost 30 mins, it was pack during the golden week.) Not bad, not impressive neither. Or maybe I’m just not a aquarium person.
What an amazing experience, the aquarium may only have a few exhibits, but each one is so interactive and its amazing to see the aquatic life upfront!
This aquarium is huge inside even though it does not look like it from the outside. They have quite complete collections of fish and other marine creatures. It is well kept, clean and informative enough. Although most the information is in Japanese, the basic info of the creatures is in English. They also have a dolphin and sea lion show. The aquarium is in the side of the ocean so you can see the sea. The view is beautiful. There are a lot of restaurants in the place. But the public transport access to this place is not good. Only a few busses a day.

One of good place in Nanao.Second floor there's restaurants. There are plenty of shops on ground floor specially gift corner. Finally when you are leaving Nanao you can buy many kind Of Noto's foods etc. over here.
Easy to find with lots of free parking, merchants are well spaced allowing crowds to flow well through the market. A good selection of fresh seafood and fish, to cook yourself or eat at the market in an area with views of the park by the water.
Great place to get souvenirs on the first floor and has many restaurants on the second floor. There's a seafood bbq restaurant on the first floor too. There's also a small fish market on the first floor which has great sushi if you get there early enough! Take time to enjoy the ice cream shops inside too.
Good stop off for a drive. Local food available.
Small market with restaurant in the 2nd floor Nice place to hangout
Reasonable price and you can barbecue the seafood bought from the fresh market withing the same building. However it was a bit far away from the city centre of Kanazawa which took a long time to drive there. Therefore you need to decide if it is worth as the toll charges for the highway is not cheap.
It is fun to stroll through the shop and "Google translate" the Japanese delicatessen (there is wifi)
I love the fisherman's wharf! There is great ice cream, great seafood, and the park next to it is nice too!

Unforgettable Discovery of Noto Island I highly recommend visiting Noto Island for a unique and authentic local experience away from the crowds. Our bike tour with Hajime from the Noto Note agency was amazing. Crossing the rice fields, forests, and villages while discovering local life was a true breath of nature and peacefulness. Although the island was affected by an earthquake in January 2024, it has no impact on the experience for visitors. Don't miss this experience to discover the very essence of Noto Island!
Roads to noto is beautiful. Big island. Less crowded.
Wonderful place. Free highway from Kanzawa to Nato. 2 bridges on sea connects the island to mainland.
What a beautiful island which I have ever seen in my life.Natural hot spa, aquarium very beautiful view with camp grounds, marine park, glass art museum, fishing ,swimming and for road cycling, dolphins watching spot etc.please have a visit and enjoy over here in Notojima there is very famous hotel area call wakura onzen machi very near from this Island.specially I want you to say something about Ishikawa foods are so delicious and yummy.🚴🏻🚵🏻‍♀️🐟🐠🦑🐙🍚🍣🍲🍻🍺🍽🏊🏻🐬 🏊🏾‍♀️🚴🏾‍♀️🚵

I wonder how many times I've visited there. If you go around the Noto Peninsula, you'll inevitably go around Noto Island as well, making it a delicious trip twice in one go. If you are a freak in Ishikawa Prefecture, both on the island and its surroundings. There are so many famous places that you must visit! Two bridges connecting Noto Island and surrounding famous spots, When you cross the Notoshima Ohashi Bridge and the Noto Twin Bridge, you can enjoy an exhilarating drive sandwiched between the two oceans. At Wakura Onsen, you could see the ocean from your room within 5 seconds of waking up in the morning. Of course, you can see the ocean from the open-air bath. Being able to soak in a hot spring while listening to the sound of the waves so close...I was able to relax to the core! I always miss Anamizu on the way, The fish caught in this area, known as flounder, is fatty, plump, and extremely delicious! ! Yellowtail is famous around here, but everything is delicious. I have eaten fish all over Japan. When asked where the fish is delicious, The seafood in general is so delicious that it screams, "It's on the right side of Ishikawa Prefecture!" Rivers from the Tateyama Mountain Range flow into the fish, making it rich in nutrients and rich in plankton, making the fish delicious! In spring, you can enjoy the late cherry blossoms. Various varieties bloom from mid-April to mid-May. If I'm able to go, I'm thinking of taking a leisurely trip to Noto Island again around that time to enjoy the cherry blossoms. Then, I realized that I had never visited before due to poverty. A famous aquarium representing the Sea of Japan side, This time, I want to try the famous Anamizu flounder. From now on, each person will decide when to visit, and those who visit should be aware of the road conditions and drive slowly without overdoing it. Even if there are facilities that are not doing this, As a way to look forward to your next visit, let's fully enjoy Noto that you can't see in one trip! A place rich in history, great view, good place for a short hike. By the parking lot, there's a spot where you'll see some people gathered around with a table and chairs, they are the volunteer tour guides. Feel free to ask them, they'd be happy to show you around
Easy 30-40 minute hike from the foot of the mountain. Wonderful view of Nanao bay from the top
Clear and super fresh air, awesome and grand scenary of Nanao harbour. It's spectacular. Reaching the car park takes a bit of drive along lots of slopes and narrow roads but will be your worthwhile. There are tactically located stone-stacked walls and steep stairs, on the hills surrounded by cedar trees. Very peaceful and quiet.
One of 100 Most Famous Japanese Castle. It was interesting to see the ruins of Nanao Castle and imagine the things back then in their era. The road already opened since June this year. You can choose whether to drive your car or walk the hiking path. But there were impact of typhoon number 19 so some trees were collapsed.
I wasn’t expecting that ruins can look so beautiful. If you are looking for a place where you can see whole Nanao - that’s it. And if you are silent enough, you might even meet raccoon 🦝 I did :)

It would be nice to visit on sunny day so you can watch scenery from it's parking location. I visited when there is an expo there. It would be good if their store was open.
Small little glass museum with some great pieces of glass art. Worth the visit but only expect to spend 30mins here.
I visited the place again for the second time and was able to see inside. It was beautiful and we enjoyed a lot. The displays were selected from various artists and they are really interesting. You will also enjoy the art and architecture outside the museum. The entrance fee is a little expensive hope they lower the price. There is a big rest place and restaurant infront of the museum.

If you were to be Noto Jima, state-of-art exhibition of glass products worth you a while to pay a visit here for one afternoon. Besides, it only 5-min away from Noto Jima Aquarius...
Very interesting glass pieces. Mostly from within Japan, some from Italy and China. 800yen entrance fee. Takes about 30 to walk through reading all description.
The exterior of the museum is curious architecturally, but it's downhill from there. No English translations anywhere (I know, a bit xenophobic of me to expect...) and more so, the collection it self is small and not particularly beautiful.

The chef and the team put lots of creativity in the cake, no matter the taste also the look of the dessert. I would recommend to have a coffee and the sweet after the relaxing onsen experience.
A must-visit café when in Wakura Onsen (after taking the bath, probably). Delicious cakes with a great sea-view. We had too little time before the return train to Kanazawa so skipped the lunch and had two pastries each and a hot drink here instead. The owner is some very famous local pattisier but you feel the touch of western dessert culture (and we have started to miss nice dessert after being 10 days in Japan). A cake costs between 400-600 jpy, a coffee/tea - around 450 jpy. Other drinks available too but the drinks menu is available in Japanese only (google translator failed to translate all the names to understand what was what, except of Assam tea). The staff's English is very very limited to ask for clarification, so just point on an item on the menu and hope for some luck with guessing ;-) After your coffee&cake here you can also buy some cookies to take with. When leaving, you even get a chance to 'win' a small cookie turning the tombola. We were very satisfied with our visit to this place and would highly recommend it! P.S. "Reservation" applies. You write down your name in the journal when you come to the café and wait until you are called for. When we came (around 14.40 on Sunday), we waited less than 5 minutes, when we were leaving 30 mins later there was already a long queue.
Just found here on an off chance. I had come to go to the onsen but sadly it was shut on the Monday I went. This helped make up for it though. The pastries were delicious and very fine. Combined with a lovely view of the water, it made for an enjoyable experience. As others have mentioned, the staff don't speak much English but went out of their way to help using translation devices, so thank you for being so helpful.
They have wide variety of cakes range from 400-600 yen. Great place to eat your dessert while enjoying sea view. Best come when it is sunny. I think they don't have English menu but you can just point at their cakes. I live nearby but I never tired of their cakes.
Very delicious sweets! It's worthy for waiting 1.5 hrs.
Nice sweets and beautiful sightseeing, enjoy a wonderful afternoon!
Interesting selection of desserts. Great mix of sweet and bitter flavors.
The pastries are very delicious. The cafe is perhaps not worth waiting for a very long time when you are able to just take away the desserts.

The bath was small, but there was no one else in it so I was able to relax in it. I was worried after reading the reviews, but there were no problems at all. The lady guides were so knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. We learnt a lot, and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Well worth visiting here. Also have interesting little souvenir shop.
Here is place you can try and learn japanese(ishikawa area)traditional wedding ceremony . Wedding day, before ceremony starts, bride have to go to groom's house by herself and do her own special ceremony "pass through the curtain" These gorgeous curtains were made by bride's parents and there's family insignia. They going to put those in groom's house and bride going to pass through the curtain to meet new family. 😊✨ This is old traditional way in ishikawa and not many people doing this right now. But im so happy i could wear this gorgeous weddingdress and see their history. Thx 花嫁のれん館!✌️
I recommend you to come here if you are interested in Japanese wedding. It was a tradition from old days. Wedding kimonos were gorgeous.
Very beautiful traditional curtains for a brid!!! The place must be visited!!!
A good place to see how the bride preparation back in history
A small but interesting museum. You get to learn about the role of noren (door curtains) in the wedding preparation of people in this region. It is interesting to see how the design has changed from the past till now. If you have the time (30 minutes) and money (3000yen), you get to dress up in the traditional bridal costume and taking picture with the noren, which symbolises the sending off of daughter with the family's blessing.

As a non-Japanese tourist, I found the whole experience delightful. The whole experience was like a meditation, moving from indoor pools to the outdoor pool. Sitting in silence, noticing the breath, noticing the heat of the water, noticing the coolness of the outside air. Being aware of the shifts in perception of pleasant and unpleasant, as the water felt too hot and the cool air a relief, or the cool air being too cool and the welcoming warmth of the hot spring water.
One of the oldest onsens in Japan! You may purchase your ticket and rentals using the vending machine, and keep your shoes in the provided lockers.
This public bath has a wonderful hot spring. The water gushed out from under the crystals underground and reached me. It was like a gemstone hot spring. I was able to enjoy a luxurious bath time.
The entrance is huge. Very spacious. The actual bath and changing area are not as spacious as the entrance lol. (no special chairs for kodomos). But it's definitely relaxing and the water is great. They have open air asi-yu at the entrance, which is free.
This is by far one of the best sento I’ve been to in Japan. Tattoo friendly and very open environment, it has a good amount of space. Here’s what I liked about it: 1. The mineral bath indoors had a lot of minerals in it. You can tell by the feel of the skin and how my soul heated up 2. Cold plunge was the perfect cold temperature 3. The outdoor bath was nice and hot and the chairs outside was nice to relax 4. People were friendly I recommend the gelato place down the street after you come here. Makes for a great pairing! It is cash only.
It was a nice place to relax after a long walk. They have free foot bath in front of the building and it's nice to soak your feet there. To enjoy the bath inside, you have to pay 440¥ for once. You also can buy bath towel, hair band, soaps etc here. Also onsen boiled egg
A beautiful onsen. Tattoo and child friendly. Tickets are cheap. You can buy a towel the aswell. Bathing is naked
The bath water is slightly salty, which is nice for a change. The price is very low for what you get: indoor and outdoor baths, a sauna, and even a rare deep bath. The locker keys are wood blocks, which are a bit unwieldy, but kind of traditional as well. Only thing missing is a drinking fountain in the bathing area.

The last one will be on display on October 16th, but I'm looking forward to seeing more. (Original) 長谷川等伯の国宝 松林図屏風 を見てこれました。京都からも波濤図、禅宗祖師図襖が来ていて見応えがありました。10/16で最終ですが、またあると思うので楽しみにしています。

The road from Kanazawa to the museum in Nanao City is nicely paved, and no traces of the disaster are visible, but there are still many blue tarps on the roofs of private homes in the city, and it is heartwarming to think that this museum must have restarted amidst great hardship. Recovering from the earthquake, the Nanao Art Museum reopened on September 20, 2025. An event was held in conjunction with this. I happened to be in Nanao, so the timing was perfect and I went to see it. There were many works on display, but here are a few: "Nirvana" - Is an overweight man lounging around soundly surrounded by a large group? "Pine Trees and Crows" - It looks like the crows are having a conversation. They're not saying "Defeat the Upper Rank Six!" "Waves" - Is this the origin of wave depiction? The rough waves of the Sea of Japan are amazing. "Pine Forest Screen" - The transparency is incredible! If I'm not careful, I could get lost. The video explained his many works and his upbringing, which couldn't be covered in just an art exhibition. It's hot outside, and I kind of feel like I don't want to go outside. I'm glad I came.
