Our family trip to Monkey Rock on Iki Island was an unforgettable adventure. The journey began with a scenic drive through the lush, green landscapes of the island, setting the tone for a day filled with wonder and excitement. As we approached Monkey Rock, we were greeted by the striking rock formation resembling a monkey’s face, which instantly fascinated both the kids and adults. The area around Monkey Rock is rich in natural beauty, with stunning coastal views and vibrant, unspoiled nature. We spent the morning exploring the rocky shoreline, where the kids delighted in discovering tiny crabs and colorful sea creatures in the tide pools. The air was filled with the sound of waves crashing against the rocks and the distant calls of seabirds, creating a serene and captivating atmosphere. We enjoyed a picnic lunch in a nearby park, surrounded by the island’s unique flora. Sharing stories and laughter, we felt a deep sense of connection with each other and the natural world around us. In the afternoon, we hiked along one of the scenic trails, taking in the panoramic views of the ocean and the island’s rugged coastline. Our visit to Monkey Rock on Iki Island was a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and family bonding, leaving us with cherished memories and a newfound appreciation for this beautiful corner of the world.
The most iconic spot in Iki Island. The rock indeed looks like a monkey with his back and his head looking to the left side. There are also a parking lot, a souvenir shop and a toilet here. Free entrance, no tickets, so it is worth for pictures. But other than that, there’s nothing much to do. I visited this place on May 17 at around 5:30 PM, but there was no one here. I guess the reason was that it was still not peak season and was quite late. The sky was gloomy on thay day. Only the rock surprised me cuz it really does resemble a monkey, though the sea view was like “meh…” to me. I think the sea view would have been beautiful if it had been sunny.
Cycled from the port. There are some nice bays along the way. definitely looks like a primate, we were having a discussion on which one. Nice park with plenty of parking there's a small store and a great smoothie caravan which was perfect after our ride. Just before park is the old gun emplacement.
It was very queit but very beautiful! You can get a very nice view of the rock. If you are near you should go for sure!
Great attraction, and fun drive to get there. We arrived late afternoon, so the monkey was backlit by the sun, which made it a little difficult to see. It looked as if the monkey was looked at the sun, which was fun.
It does indeed look like a monkey. (Original a gorilla, some would say.) Nature is fascinating! :-) Easy to get to by bus or car.
Very beautiful place to see the Monkey Rock, a strange guy named Riku offered me a Monkey themed hat and an ancient armor saying it had the soul of a Monkey inside tho... asides from that, beautiful, 10/10's

Displaying Iki's history, including the diorama of nearby Harunotsuji ruins, which was the capital of "Iki state", described in the Chinese historical text of "Records of the Three Kingdoms." The building itself is great too, designed by a famous architect, with the wavy roof imitating mountain ridges to blend in with the surrounding landscapes. There is an observation deck at the top of the tower.
Great museum. Delicate dioramas with a humorous side, interesting walls of history and a cool interactive kids area. The tower overlooks 400ha of flat land. The video presentation is interesting, showcasing the history then curtain drops down to show the original village. Enjoyed it
Very good museum to trace ancient Japan's relationships with the continent. Kisho Kurokawa's design of the building fits well with the surrounding views.
An interesting museum about the history of Iki and Nagasaki. It was helpful to have English explanations via QR codes and an app. They also showed an English language short video in the theatre. Great views from the observation deck and a cafe for lunch.
The best museum I have been in Japan. So well designed in the environment. The use of the screens and lights inside is superwell done. There is an interactive space for kids too. Many books made by the museum about Iki culture can be obtain in the shop.Must visit! Thanks museum
The initial video was pretty nicely done, I recommend getting an audio guide for the rest of the tour around the museum, definitely go up the observatory and also look at the model village.

Their origin was unknown but locals continuously enshrine and take good care of them. Noted on my wonder-tips site.
Very special atmosphere during severe rain.
Kind of cool spot.
Cool formations, cool that they’re tended to, but not really worth going out of your way to see. There’s not much else to see in the area and it’s not serviced by bus

Iki Island is a paradise found in the southern Japan. If you go to Fukuoka, please do yourself a favor and take the trip to Iki Island. The island have numerous of movie-like beaches with clear water and white sand. The trip to Iki Island from Fukuoka is 2 hours with ferry or 1 hour with jetfoil. If you like beaches and need relaxation, i recommend 3-5 days. By car or scooter it's easy to get around the island. There are busses too, but they don't drive frequently. The locals don't speak english very well, but with apps it's easy to communicate as a foreigner. I think me and my girlfriend were the only non-japanese people on the island at the time, but we were treatet very good! By far the most amazing island I've been on, regarding beaches and nature.
Ghost of Tsushima brought me here IRL! The shrines, the windswept rice fields and the ragged coastline look just like they do in the game. The IRL Kojima shrine is just like the Nakajima Shrine in game, but in a slightly different location. I’ve posted the pictures side by side here. I even saw a fox shrine! The Iki museum is pretty and interesting but doesn’t have much on the Mongolian invasion. Also has some amazing sea urchin (only available in season) caught by the women divers of the island.
I came here after liberating tsushima, but then i got captured by a mongolian tribe woman leader called the eagle aka ahnksar khatun, but overall it's really good, and im friends with all raiders even they know im the butcher's son (Game Joke)
Great place, lost my horse but found it later on,I came from tsushima because my uncle kept talking about that i have no honor and stuff like that, met some raiders but eventually i gained their trust
Great place to visit. Totally recommended. Got me a piece of armour called sarugami, previously worn by the legendary pirate known as black hand riku. Shout out to my man, Kashira for telling me where to find it.
me and the boys single handedly saved the island from the mongols and we destroyed their warship by hiding in their supply ship. 10/10 would do it again, too much monkeys though the island has cool glowing water and hidden caves with treasure and a delusional blind man with black hand guarding it
got high with some eagle lady and hallucinated about my dead father. 10/10 would go again
I love Iki.. I've never felt so far away from everything. There's a tiny island with a shrine that you can walk to during low tide. And Monkey Rock is a must-see, but I highly recommend you get there just before the sunset.

Simple and beautiful.

He is depicted as an important deity alongside Amaterasu and Susanoo in documents such as the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki! As a brother deity of Amaterasu, he occupies an important position in the lineage of the gods! Furthermore, Tsukuyomi, also known as "Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto," is a deity who symbolizes the movement of the moon and the tranquility of the night! Therefore, he has been deeply connected to the rhythms of nature, such as agriculture, the calendar, and the ebb and flow of the tides! It is also said that his mystical nature as the moon god inspired awe in ancient people! The myth surrounding Tsukuyomi also includes an anecdote about Ukemochi, the god of food! In this story, Tsukuyomi became enraged by the way Ukemochi served him food and slashed her! This is said to have led to a deterioration in his relationship with Amaterasu, which led to the separation of day and night! Maybe one of the best sightseeing spot on Iki Island. View here is amazing.
Impressive landscape. Very nice accessible via bicycle and car.
It’s a beautiful place with crystal clear water and cool breeze, where you can see local women diving to collect Urchin. Definitely recommended to visit when you come to Iki!
Sakyobana This rock formation, about 1 km in total length, stands facing the Genkai Sea. A product of erosion by seawater, it looks like a bundle of curiously shaped thin pillars.
Beautiful lookup point to relax at.

The steep rock jutting out of the sea is called "Kannonbashira". There is a stark contrast between the power of the cliffs and the quiet atmosphere where you can hear the pleasant sound of the waves. There is also a beautifully maintained observation deck, so I thought I'd like to eat some rice balls here. Purple sea urchin fishing is carried out nearby from early May to mid-June. Gorgeous. Toilets are on site and you can walk through the trees to get to a running track and campgrounds
Went here on May 18th. It was sunny and the temperature was 20°C, but not that high for swimming, so the beach was empty. The sand was very soft, and the water was crystal clear. There’s a parking lot and a bathroom also. Since May is not a peak season here, there’s no café or food bar, but they will open between July and August. Though, I still prefer this quiet and empty vibe. The beach lies next to Iki Airport, so sometimes you will hear the jet engines roaring.
Water is super clear and beautiful! Sand is nice, there are some shady areas. Stalls, tables, floaty devices and boats available for hire. It was quiet when we came because of Corona but I have heard that it's usually really busy. More of a party beach than a relaxing beach. Great view. Jet skis cruising around. Has public toilets. Plenty of free parking. Vending machines near the parking area.

Cool spot definitely worth a visit if you're on the island. Very close to the car park and it has some basic facilities in the vacinity such as drinking water and a toilet. Unfortunately when I was there it was very windy and overcast but still worth visiting. I'm sure it would look even better on a beautiful day.
Very stunning place and worth visiting. Huge areas of green grass like a park. Standing on the cliffs, looking far beyond the sea, and feeling the fresh breeze was such a great vibe for me. There are rocks that have different shapes: one resembles a devil’s footprint, another resembles a gorilla, and the other looks like a frog. The only drawback is that there are garbage in the devil’s footprint. The management authority should have cleaned it. The gorilla and frog rocks may look exactly like what they are described based on each person’s imagination. But still, a worth place to visit cuz the entrance is free, no tickets.
AWESOME area of the island to visit to, though I may have fought Mongols and the Eagle on the way here, it's worth coming at sunset. Just don't bring your dad or else they will go bye bye. "May your death benefit all beings" Is what I heard before my dad was taken away from this world. GREAT place to visit to, 10/10!
Very scenic spot. Definetely worth a visit while fighting the mongols
A truly beautiful area. There's also a beautiful area near here where you can get more great pictures.
I believe this was one of the most amazing spots on Iki island. My wife and me could have stayed and watched a thousand sunsets here.
This is a really neat and unusual spot. The hole in the ground is really cool! I would love to try swimming in this area in the summer.

Choose the plan to join the tour and walk the island. There are places that can’t be reached by foot. But there are also ancient trails that takes 30 mins to 1 hour to go around, some hidden shrines. Cute deers too, hiding in the mountains
Beautiful beaches. Water was very shallow but we did see some big fish while snorkeling. Very good visibility in water.

It’s breathtaking!!
Amazing Japanese hidden treasure! Go to this island is not really easy, you have to take the boat from the north of Iki island, but once you get your boat ticket, you will enjoy. The boat going there is a small one, with a very friendly crew, you should book for the tour (it's really a must). The crew will explain you the shape of rocks and a part of the legend of the places. After that let's arrive to the dock on the island, once there, enjoy the crystal sea, the white sand beach and overall the peaceful silence. IT IS AMAZING!
I took a 40-minute pleasure boat tour from Katsumoto Port to Tatsunoshima Island. Noted on my wonder-tips site.

It was low tide on this day, but at high tide, the sea apparently reaches right up to the beach hut. Even though it was the middle of the August season, there were only two or three groups of guests, so we were able to relax and enjoy ourselves. Cup ramen and other items are available for purchase at the beach hut. Climbing up behind the beach hut, you'll find the impressive "Jagatani" valley, which is truly impressive! (Translated by Google) I visited the shrine in Mt. Odake on a weekday morning in November. I was able to visit the shrine in a very quiet manner. There were many stone statues of monkeys and cows, some of which were so funny that I couldn't help but take pictures of them. There was a cafe on the grounds, but it was closed when I visited. From the observation deck, you could look down on Mt. Mengodake Dam. There is also a trekking course next to the main shrine, which is probably used by many people in the summer.

(Translated by Google) There are many stone monkey statues at the shrine on the summit. Among them, there was one that made me wonder where it was made.
(Translated by Google) As this shrine is dedicated to Sarutahiko, there are countless stone statues of monkeys. You can drive up to the torii gate, but be careful as it is a steep slope. There is parking space for more than 10 cars. There is a huge rock to the right behind the main hall. There is also a small path to the right that leads to Inari Shrine, with stone statues of monkeys here and there. I noticed something strange here. Iki is said to have no deer, boars, or monkeys, but I saw a lone baby monkey moving around in a tree. I mentioned this to the staff at the cafe, and they said there shouldn't be any monkeys there either.

Wonderful landscape!
Marine sports Banana boating, jet skiing and snorkeling are particularly recommended in summer, and surfing in off-seasons. Diving Iki offers great diving spots around the island, where you can enjoy Nature surrounded by coral reefs and cute fish.
Great beach with cristall clear water. Few people around. 4stars because there is the airport of iki only a couple of meters away, also choppers start there and if you look accurate you will find a lot of plastic waste on the beach and also in the water
Absolutely gorgeous beach.
Sand is great, water is great, and people are great.

The tomb stones were piled up at the end of the 6th century to bury local governors. This is the biggest kofun tumuli in the island.

The announcement at the entrance seems to be out of order, and there is no response... Please do some maintenance. (Translated by Google) This tumulus is located on the edge of the road, so it is the easiest to find and access. The entrance is partially blocked off by a stone, but it is lit up so you can see inside. It feels like it was set up as part of a sightseeing tour, with public toilets available. Currently, there are no shops, just a few vending machines.

(Translated by Google) I also went to Kakegi Kofun, but this one is better. It was full of wildness. Please note that it was dark underfoot. The rocks are large and impressive. There is a switch at the entrance The electricity is on at the very back.
