On arrival one of the main front doors was broken and "not in use". We had a sea view room, which other than having a bay window, bore little resemblance to the photo on the hotel website. There are gouges missing from the walls and the entrance to the lift. It just shows a lack of care The rooms were tiny , the bathroom even smaller, the bathtub/shower mixer was stuck in the shower only position and there was evidence of mould around the bathtub . If you wanted to sleep with the window open for fresh air you had to accept the hum from the aircon unit on the ground floor which is quite noisy . The selection of TV Chanel’s is somewhat limited Freeview only . The hairdryer operation was odd, the on /off switches are back to front, on is in the up position and down is off , plus you have to hold a third button once the switches are set to the correct position to get the hairdryer to operate, yet no instructions were available The vanity mirror is set so low that it’s impossible to see what you are doing if you are standing up to dry your hair . It’s the same situation in the bathroom , if you wish to use the bathtub , the liquid soap dispenser is so high up on the wall to accommodate someone showering that it forces the person in the tub to stand up to get some soap this is ridiculous There are no electrical plug points next to the bed to allow charging of electrical devices There is no fridge in the room There is no signage from reception to the elevators and once again the elevators need a deep clean A lot of these points are simple fixes requiring minimal costs but it indicates a mind over matter from the management . Definitely no complaints, the Ascot is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in. Yes a little quirky but that added to it's charm. We were greeted by a very friendly Kylie on reception and given a lovely seaview room. The room was very hot but Kylie sorted the radiators for us. My partner felt quite unwell shortly after our arrival and Kylie couldn't do enough to help him. He didn't want to eat so she made him a sandwich to be left in the fridge in case he felt hungry overnight. Next morning at breakfast we met Sandy who again was lovely and very helpful. The breakfast was brilliant and really set us up for the day. Being a quiet period there was no buffet, we could choose which items, from the very extensive choice, we wanted. We ate in their restaurant each evening and couldn't fault the choice and quality of the food. We met the owner, the cleaner, two more girls on reception ( one from my hometown!) and without exception they were all delightful. Overall this hotel has it all, not the most luxurious or up to date but it has all the important things you want from a stay, warm, clean, comfortable rooms, excellent food and the friendliest, most helpful staff you could wish for.
