Would have taken half off for the Basque Cheesecake. The cheesecake was not even Mildly sweet and very crumbly and dry. The chocolate gnache helped balance it but once it was gone it left a chunk of ricotta. The atmosphere is great if not a little loud but that's to do with the consistent crowd and table top games. The drinks were great, we got the margarita and the Radler. Bother were well made and fresh. We got the small Maui Wowee and it came out crispy, hot and delicious. Would love to try different flavors.
The staff was ready for recommendations but gave space to enjoy the food.

We stopped here on our way up to Ucluelet, the beers were delicious! I loved the blueberry muffin lager, sadly it wasn't available in cans! If you're looking for a place in Port Alberni to learn about some of it's history the Port Alberni Maritime Discovery Centre is the perfect place to do so.
This place is free admission to anyone coming by. Just please note, this place runs on donations and anything you donate helps. And by not donating, especially if you can is a shame.
In case you didn't know the Lighthouse is apart of the Discovery Centre and in opening hours can be walked into for more exhibits.
There are boats here that can be viewed out in the shipyard if you go through the back of the Discovery Centre.
In the Discovery Centre they also have a small Gift Shop.
They have small replicas of the boats on display, a lot of information and pictures from the past which are very cool to look at as well.
There were also some surprising information I have never knew about Port Alberni before!
For example, Port Alberni in 1964 has a Tsunami. And an hour later had a second one!
I will say the only thing I wish that Port Alberni Maritime Discovery had was music to spice up the whole vibe of the place. And I don't mean putting on modern music I mean more like an Indiana Jones vibe or something adventurous like it.
I am talking about music that will transform this quiet space into something exciting. Something that will make the person feel like they are being taken on a journey. Music is so powerful when used right and I think they're missing out on that.
I also think it needs some organizing. Especially in the Lighthouse. I found there was a lot of stuff not part of the exhibit. Or maybe it was in past exhibits but not currently.
And so you have stuff sitting there.
It was very neat to learn more about Port Alberni and have the experience to come here.

What a vibe. We found ourselves there on the night of a Murder Mystery and the hosts and attendees had gone all out! Even though staff were busy hosting this awesome event, the service was amazing. We were greeted warmly, the servers were so friendly and attentive and the rooftop patio was summer perfection. The brewery is pretty cool looking with an amazing roof top patio. The staff are friendly and the branding is great. Unfortunately the beer is pretty mid at best, and the food prices are ridiculous. $23.50 for a donair smaller than a $12 one at a local kebab shop. It also was 90% lettuce. Went for dinner with group of six. Service was very slow despite most tables being empty. The water glasses we were given were covered with lipstick, bits of food, and other unsavoury anomalies. Some of us cleaned our glasses while others just didn’t drink water.

The food is a solid 5 star. Halibut fish battered and fried just right. Served with chips and ask them for the malt vinegar spray. Nice touch so that the batter doesn't get soggy.

Of the best we’ve ever had! We did the halibut and salmon, both cooked to perfection. The batter was thin, extra crispy and not greasy. A dream for any nature enthusiast, this place won’t disappoint. A wonderful place to check out large tall trees, vegetation, moss, and mushrooms 🍄. Both trails A and B were stunning, easy walking trails. We took our time going through the trails, so we were there maybe 1 1/ 2 hours. Both were picturesque trails with the fresh smell of a true forest trail.

My friend and I got the coconut lemonade and it was AMAZING. Cool, actually tasted like lemon instead of just sugar and yet wasn't bitter at all. Thursday the 11th of September we did the day trip to Bamfield. The weather was overcast and maybe a bit foggy but the trip was fantastic. The stop in Bamfield was so cool. The eagles, humpback whale and bears made it all the more enjoyable.

We did the trip to Bamfield on the Frances Barkley last week. A great day. The captain kept us informed of what was happening and where we would be stopping next. We recently went on the Lady Rose and it was a great experience. The staff that run the boat are very courteous and friendly.
If you don't want to pack a lunch, the galley below serves great food for a decent price. Breakfast was awesome. Bring cash though for food as that's all they accept.
Depending on the amount of freight they need to drop, you can stay in Bamfield for 1-2 hours. The boardwalk is nice, but I wished I had time to go see Brady Beach. The general store has pretty much everything you want and they do accept debit

Beautifully restored building. This is where you go to catch the steam train (when running) to the McLean's Mill (a National Historical Site) with a fully functional sawmill. Sometimes in the summer you can see the "James Gang" in action, this is a local group of loggers who show how it was done in the past. I remember I got all my shoes wet after the walk years ago.

We walk the new part boardwalk in the morning then I head to Port Alberni then we walk the old part on the way back to Parksville.

We stayed here twice in September 2023, about 2 weeks apart. First time we got there around 11am and snagged the last available camping spot. The salmon were running, but the river was low-ish and not many were making it up the fish ladders. We did see bears every day.
Second visit, later in September after some good rains, the river was up and the salmon were still running so it was wonderful to see them crowding the fish ladders. We saw lots of bears fishing. Campground was not so full this time and we got a fabulous riverfront spot. Great place to stay. Just spent four days camping here in our 17ft travel trailer. Our site was at the upper campground so it was about a 1/2 a km hike to the lake and the showers. Nice campsites in the upper campground, some with more trees than others. We were rent camping on a very rainy night so drove through the campground to find a site that would suit our needs. My touristy group of eight (8) adults came to Sproat Lake Park to see the petroglyphs. Carved into a vertical rock face by First Nation peoples long ago, the petroglyphs are just above the water line and visible from a nearby floating deck. It's an easy, short hike on safe, mostly level paths through some woods that run parallel above a shoreline, which borders a HUGE lake. And then a secure ramp lets you walk down to a floating, tethered platform deck, from where you can see and inspect the petroglyphs from a respectful distance. Absolutely gorgeous area to spend some time in the water and sun. The water is clean, and the surroundings are truly beautiful, it's definitely in my top few most loved places to go in the summer. Not too busy, at least not while we were there, we decided to walk along the shore line in the water until we found a nice little area that was private and away from everyone where we could enjoy swimming and suntanning in our own little secluded spot.
