Always get a friendly welcome from the owner and the food didn't disappoint. I had the Choila for starters and while I wish the portion size was larger, you can't deny this dish is a taste explosion on the palette. For mains I had the always dependable Sherpa Kurkura which had incredible flavour and a good amount of heat, but not to the extent of being overpowering. Plenty of chicken and a lovely thick sauce, unlike the watered down sauce I seem to constantly get served up from another "popular" curry house not that far away. Ironically, while the Gurkha is obviously not a traditional Indian restaurant, in the sense people consider what a curry house to be, it serves what I think is one of the best curry experiences in Chelmsford. Traditional curry houses seem to be dying out, either becoming simply takeaways, serving the Deliveroo crowd, or turning into poncy, so called "contemporary" Indian restaurants, serving overpriced, different takes on curry classics nobody asked for.
