The tour bus stopped at a lookout. You can see the canyon and the entire surrounding area. This was the best spot to see all of the damage caused by the wildfires. It was incredible (and a little sad) to see what has become of this area. So much of the area looked like scorched earth, yet it is still majestic and beautiful.
What was very interesting is that this fire was driven by high winds (65+ mph) and many of the burnt trees feel in the same direction, almost like dominos). There were also some small patches that were left unscathed, and how does that even happen?!

We had a great experience moving lake. It was amazing view. There is some few trails down there if you are interested to do some trading, but you can go with your family and spend some time there. My fave lake during my 2 week, travelling trip to Canada (more so than Lake Louise). It’s quieter (I went at the end of August), it’s picturesque, there are lots of trails you can go on. There’s a beautiful lake view restaurant and a FAB ice cream and waffle shop. I bought a Christmas decoration from the gift shop.
You can go on boat trips (I didn’t- pre booking is essential). And you can kayak (booking on the day only, so everyone has an opportunity).
We did a route called “moose lake”. The small “pool” lake was very peaceful and moose are often found grazing in there.
We actually saw a moose in the main lake that was a joy to see and apparently he’s often there, showing off to visitors!
If it’s wildlife you’re after, we saw a grizzly on the way back down the mountain, about 8pm. Having spoke to a lot of people in the area about this encounter, they all had photos of the same bear in the same area, so I think he also is a creature of habit!
Finally, we had lots of food in our RV, so we stopped the next day at lunchtime, on the way up to the lake at a river best, rest stop on the left side. It was so joyous! They have fire pits with firewood to use for free! As well as picnic benches and the odd chipmunk to watch. It’s extremely picturesque and well maintained!

This lake is amazing!! From the views of the forests and mountains to the lake and wetlands, every aspect here met the mark. Despite Medicine Lake's low water level in mid-May, our visit was excellent. We still enjoyed the views of this majestic lake and its unique surroundings. A very nice lake to take a canoe on and paddle around. Parking unfortunately is rather sparse and it can get quite busy. They have different types of watercraft and the only motorized is an electric boat which is nice for keeping it peaceful. We took a canoe out for an hour and that was plenty. Absolutely gorgeous lake just a short walk from the highway. The trail is clear to the lake then meanders along up and down the hillside, watch for roots and tripping hazards. The water is clear and cold but super refreshing on a hot day. If you're brave enough (or stupid enough) you can jump off the cliffs into the water. We didn't but saw others doing it; you'd definitely need to know exactly where to jump but there are places where the water is extremely deep. We parked at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and walked from there—super easy walk and not crowded at all. Our visit to Maligne Canyon Wilderness Kitchen was one of my favorite lunches on our BC & Alberta roadtrip mid-September.
Service here was very efficient and friendly (even though it was pretty busy) and I liked that everything appeared well organized.
The food was delicious; we had two sandwiches, one with soup and one with salad, everything was fresh, tasty and came out fast.
We also had a drink which was very good.
The views are very nice as well, especially if you catch a clear day.

Wow!! This was one of the most delicious meals we’ve had. Location/food/drinks/service/price all 5/5. If there’s a way to give this place 6/5, I would. We went on a weekday in July and sat on the patio - this is a late review. The outdoor environment is serene as you’re overlooking the Maligne Canyon trails. The indoor seating is cozy, modern and subtle.
We tried a large variety of cocktails dishes, everything was well-executed, balanced yet complex.
From the cocktail menu, I’d recommend the Rumpert’s Campfire! This whisky based drink is transformed with bitters, roasted marshmallows, and infused in a smoky wood plate. We each had a second round after quickly gulping down the first. Other favorites include the Prickly Bear and Observation Peak.
On the food menu, I really enjoyed Bison Tartare, Brisket, and the Bison Striploin.
My only regret is only having a day in Jasper, otherwise I’d be back for brunch and dinner a second time! Hopefully we’ll be able to get out there and excited to see what new cocktails and dishes land on their menu.

Able to make reservations online with ease. If you are looking for an authentic and cozy experience in the mountains, this is a good place to spend some time in. There was live music which I enjoyed. Shared a platter for two and it was worth the price. We waited 50 minutes for our food bc they had a mishap with preparing our order however they gave us dessert on the house to make up for the wait. Because of the amazing food and good service, I would highly recommend this place.

We hiked the Pyramid island from the Pyramid Lake Lodge. So we did not need to drive to the locatio , thus did not face parking issues. The trail from the lodge is a beautiful and really easy one. The island is connected to the main land by a bridge. The view of the pyramid mountain from the island is stunning. We spent a while there and dipped our feet into the pyramid lake. For me I had a few bad experiences involving this mountain. The first time was when cycling up the mountain which can take up to 2 hours depending on you fitness levels we all got eaten alive by mosquitoes on the very humid day which does not give many views until at the top. We did see a black bear while cycling back down (which was an amazing ride), which can take as little as 15 minutes. The other time was walking down in the snow after completing pyramid mountain which was just a long day hike (12 hours non stop).

Looking for a quick midday lunch, we stopped in to try Tags. We kept our expectations in check, as we only wanted a reasonably priced meal. Cashier (he seemed to do everything) was very nice and helpful. We asked for a sandwich (ham, cheese, lettuce, toppings), and he made promptly. We grabbed a soda and chips also.
Pricing was very good. We were worn out on high priced food at so many eateries, and back home we find that some convenience stores turn out respectively good simple food. Tags did not disappoint. It’s off the beaten path, but keep driving towards Maligne canyon and you’ll get to it eventually! The views are beautiful and you can’t beat the price if you’re looking for an overnight stay, or if back to basics is your thing. There’s a fridge, sink, microwave, stove, and dishes. Common room is super cozy with 2 large tables for family dinners and a book exchange shelf with board games. No wifi or running water but the beds are warm and the staff is friendly!
