We don't get much time to ourselves as it is, and after a long week at work, we just wanted to unwind together, not with other people. When I first mentioned this, we were told it was because they wanted to get as many people in for the event as possible and it was a sense of community. I appreciate the community vibes but again, it should have been mentioned. I also think getting as many people in to enjoy the event is fair, but it has to be comfortable. When we were seated, I could see that my partner was uncomfortable with the setup, so I went back up to the bar and explained how we felt. Parking for us was good as we had booked a superior room which includes a parking space in the hotel car park. Otherwise you have to park in the local one close by. Our room was a good size. Comfy bed. Liked the layout, which worked well and had a great shower room. No view just the roof of their restaurant & a very noisy generator. Steep, narrow stairs to the upper floor, but there is an alternative easy staircase, which is the fire exit we later discovered. Food was delicious but sadly customer service from some staff members was very disappointing & rude particularly at breakfast. We were not alone, and another couple who sat at the next table spoke to us about it. We couldn't relax in the bar area after dinner as booked out to a private group & reservations for people with dogs. So, we had to go back up to our room mid evening instead to finish our wine as raining outside. It was my husbands birthday weekend treat, but no fuss was made, not even a mention which surprised me. Warm Rose was served to us by bottle, and when we asked if there was one chilled, we were told that's all we've got, so we had to put ice into it. All in all, it was a relaxing couple of days with a couple of staff who made us feel welcome and comfortable, but sadly, due to other experiences throughout our time there, we wouldn't return when there is so many other places that are similar pricing in Devon & Cornwall which have left us feeling appreciated as guests & nothing is too much trouble.

The service was really friendly and extremely helpful (eg I needed some emergency clothes washing when I arrived and they very happily and obligingly washed, dried and returned the clean clothes to our room within a few hours with no extra charge). We stayed as a treat to spend the weekend exploring Dartmoor. The Room: We had booked a superior twin room, expecting a certain standard of quality and comfort. Unfortunately I didn't take photos of the dinner, but my friends broccoli with the pie was grey and sad. If you have a modicum of interest in well cooked food, this is not the place for you. I think the food itself overpriced but can get over, the service prior to complaining about the room was really good. How they have dealt with things since has been really rubbish. You wouldn't event get this in a Travelodge or premier inn. Don't trust the 5* reviews- go elsewhere for food and your stay!

It is spacious but feels a bit sparse and not luxurious or homely. The oven pan was disgusting and could do with a new frying pan and didn’t have basics like salt. I understand if they want us to eat in the restaurant but booking it for the times we wanted in the evenings we were told there were no spaces.
