Caffè degli Specchi is a venerable cafe located in Trieste, Italy. Situated facing the Mediterranean Sea, it is surrounded by the city's public offices and an elegant hotel. The interior exudes an old-world charm, offering a perfect setting for enjoying brioches, coffee, and hot chocolate.
Such a nice place to sit and relax, and enjoy the great view of the square in front, in a restaurant with an elegant, historic feel. I had a lovely breakfast fruit plate and coffee. The atmosphere was calm and the staff didn't fuss or make me feel rushed. There are doves/seagulls around, but that's just what you get in a city and near the sea. They were not aggressive, but easily went away when you waved in their general direction.
Christina N — Google review
One of the oldest, if not the oldest cafe in Trieste. It is located on the largest square and has a wonderful view. The service is a bit slower, but that is common in Italy when you come to popular places. The food is the worst - the pasta with tomatoes and gambori is bad, the pasta is store-bought and as if it should have been cooked a little more to be al dente, and the gambori are frozen and you can really feel it in the taste. Prices above the average for Trieste. It's worth coming and having a drink, but not much more than that. Be prepared that if you sit outside, pigeons (mostly) and seagulls will land on chairs and tables and try to take your food, which can be very irritating and unhygienic.
Sveto R — Google review
Culture and modernity united. The best and oldest coffee, paired with exquisite and top-class pasticcini. Coffee at the counter for just 1 euro — and of course, the quality is perfect. Highly recommended! See the pictures!

Delicious breakfast and tasty sets. Tried a traditional coffee with a side of chocolate. It was delicious and the croissants are amazing!!

Do you know what kindness means? Kindness is when someone helps you when you’re most in need. My boyfriend and I were craving something sweet, and the guys at this place came through for us. Even though it was late on a Tuesday night and they were literally closing and packing up, they offered to prepare some sweet delights for takeaway. They packed everything with great care, very discreetly and with top-quality packaging. When we came home, we enjoyed the beautiful sweetness of what they had to offer.
Prentovic L — Google review
This is an upscale, historic café with a truly charming atmosphere. The place feels elegant and exclusive, yet the staff are very warm, welcoming, and attentive. Service is excellent. Whatever you order to drink, it’s accompanied by small snack like chips, peanuts, and cocktail toasts. They are also dog-friendly !
Benoit — Google review
Caffe Degli Specchi is the only thing I didn’t like in/about Trieste. The man who showed me to the table didn’t smile a single time. Neither did the woman who took my order. Both stone faced, both looked grumpy and not too welcoming. Showed me to a table under the glaring sun - no umbrella, no shade. Seagulls kept stealing people’s food and overturning ashtrays. Out of three things I ordered, only 2 arrived. Coffee was mediocre. Half the size and double the price of a coffee I had for brunch at a different restaurant in Trieste. Dessert was mediocre and on the expensive side. Took ages to pay because their card terminal didn’t work. The gentleman who came to rescue the unhappy man who didn’t know how to take a payment from me was the only one who smiled and apologized. I understand it’s the oldest cafe in Trieste, but with the attitude they currently have… unsure why they still have a high rating.
Tatiana S — Google review
This place is amazing! It brings you back in past, in some better times, with it's interior mostly, than with classic music etc. Stuff is very polite and helpful, and range of coffee and sweets is extremely wide and tasty. Highly recommendation for this place on Triestes central square.

Caffè San Marco is a historic coffee house in Trieste, Italy, known for its literati clientele and timeless atmosphere. With over a century of history, it offers a magical ambiance in its well-kept dining room, outdoor terrace, and library spaces where events and book presentations take place.
Such a hidden gem in the heart of the beautiful city of Trieste. An absolute recommendation for every visitor here. The coffee and the cake are amazing, the stuff are welcoming; i changed the order 2 times and the waiter was cool about it. There was just a delay in delivering the my order but it is explainable because there were too many people. 4 stars 🌟 are well deserved Update: being a person who does not consume alcohol i did really appreciate the fact that at each time i ask the waiters either a cake or a product does contain alcohol they were very clear about it and helping me choosing.

It wasn't too busy when we went there and it was a lovely experience. The staff was a nice and fast and the coffee was delicious. But as a person with a sweet tooth the absolute highlight was their signature cake. But caution, if you don't like desserts that are quite sweet, this may not be for you.
Raluca R — Google review
Great cafe with a lot of tradition. It now even has one of the highest rated bookstores in the world inside it. Has a lot of specialty coffee and bakes their own tasty cakes (we had the famous “Capo in B” and Sacher cake).

One of the most charming cafes I've ever been too. Absolutely delicious desserts and cakes that I can't wait to eat again. I appreciate the vegan menu. The gorgeous bookstore adds even more attractivnes to this place. Highly recommended!

• Founded on 3 January 1914 • Art Nouveau style - ornate stuccoes, brass lamps, rich woodwork, marble tables, and vintage caféscape. Caffè San Marco is a historic and literary icon in Trieste. • The interior features painted allegories of rivers, coffee leaves, nude medallions, lion-paw iron table legs, and elaborate stuccoed ceilings—still largely original and preserved • In 1915, Austro-Hungarian soldiers attacked and destroyed parts of the café. However, much of the décor survived. • Literary luminaries like Italo Svevo, James Joyce, & Umberto Saba, have been regulars • Recognized as a Historic Café of Italy since 2005. • Functions as a café, restaurant, pastry shop, enoteca, bookstore, and cultural venue, & event venue. • Cuisine blends Austrian, Slavic, and Italian traditions. • Drinks include a house-blend of Arabica/Robusta roasted locally, fine Eastern European wines, and a strong coffee tradition central to Trieste’s identity. Beautiful place, coffee was okay, nothing out of this world and the service was not friendly and slow. Price wise it' okay but you will find the same or better coffee with a much better service in many other Caffes in Trieste. Worth checking it out if you are in the area just to see the interior, may be get a Nero and that's it.
Rodrigo R — Google review
A super elegant and quiet century-old café that’s a mix of coffeehouse, bookstore, pastry shop, and restaurant all in one. Loved the experience!
KY W — Google review
The atmosphere is amazing, the interior design is very unique and beautiful. There is a boon store at the same place. We liked it, but the service was veeeery slooooow, we waited for 20 min to get a menu. Unfortunately there were not many vegetarian options for breakfast in the menu. We tried sandwich and beige and they were not tasty. I would recommend them to improve the menu and to add more breakfast options (especially with no meat/fish).

Mimì e Cocotte, located near the Museo Revoltella and Salone degli Incanti in Trieste, offers a delightful dining experience. The chef/owner, Giovanna, brings her Tuscan-Emilian heritage to the forefront with a menu featuring traditional Italian dishes like lasagne, homemade tagliatelle, fried meatballs, and suppli.
We came for dinner on our last night in Trieste and are so glad we found this amazing place! The food was delicious, the pasta was being hand made in the corner of the restaurant by what looked like the restaurant‘s „resident grandparents“, the wines were fantastic and service lovely. It was so nice we would consider a trip just to come back to this place!

Came here on my first night at Trieste back on March 22nd. When I told them that I have a reservation in Italian, they were very welcoming and seated me. What I remember is that I had a Veggie Soup with Chocolate Cake. It was really good and the place inside was beautiful as well.
Dan — Google review
Definitely a recommendation, staff is very nice and the food was great, went there for breakfast and had to come again on our way to the Airport, because it was so good!

Fantastic quaint restaurant. You have to look for it (off the main drag). Worth the effort! Tagliatelle with beef ragu was fantastic! We had seen the photo from another review, and we knew we wanted it. Rich and delicious beef sauce on homemade pasta. Beautiful presentation. Since it was lunch, this dish and the warm, homemade bread we're all we could eat. The staff talked a lot with us. Very hospitable and welcoming. Fabulous experience!
David S — Google review
The food here is really solid: their cacio e pepe is excellent, their chocolate cake delectable and their seared tuna with seasonal vegetables decent (albeit a little overcooked). The natural wines are also good. Prices are a little on the steeper end for Trieste and the portion size but as a tourist it’s more than reasonable.
YB — Google review
This place is all about keeping it simple and straightforward. If you order pancakes with maple syrup, you’ll get pancakes with maple syrup. If you ask for scrambled eggs with bacon, that’s exactly what you’ll have—no extra garnish or unnecessary decoration. It’s honest food, straight to the point. The atmosphere is really nice, and I also loved that they have a great selection of natural wines for sale. Overall, a very pleasant spot.
Jessica P — Google review
This place is a bit off the beaten track and was a recommendation. I am really grateful that I had the chance to experience this little gem. It's a special place not just because of the ambience and atmosphere but also because of the truly amazing food. Food is homemade and very tasty. The menu is written on a chalkboard and you get a great explanation of every dish. With your food you can select from a wide range of wines to accompany your meal. Service is incredibly friendly and prices are more than fair. I will definitely come back and I strongly recommend this place to others. Your taste buds would really miss out on a great experience. My sincere Thanks to the entire team for this very pleasurable moment which was definitely a highlight of my Trieste visit.

Located in Trieste, Home - Sapore di Casa is a versatile establishment offering restaurant, bar, and café services. It's known for its excellent coffee, brunch options, and special lunches. The place has garnered praise for its outstanding quality of food and top-notch service despite being consistently busy. While some find the prices slightly high, many agree that it's definitely worth a visit.
A good selection to choose from. We went day for breakfast and it was delicious and filling. The restaurant is always full so it’s better to book. We were lucky to go and find a table but there were people who were turned away! They even served gluten free. Definitely recommend
Carmen M — Google review
4 stars The food was beautiful – almost perfect, in fact. Easily the best brunch we had all week. The place was very busy, which speaks for itself, but for some reason the staff insisted on trying to squeeze a party of three onto a table clearly meant for two. That aside, if I were in the area again, I’d definitely go back.
Kristian M — Google review
Cute and popular place, and they were very responsive on social media when I asked about vegan options. There were lots! Massive list of drinks, and food options like toast, plain/filled croissants, vegan brunch, pancakes and a power bowl. We came before noon so shared a vegan brunch: the toast was amazing, and there was also a savory and a sweet pancake and they were decent (not blown away by them but they were definitely not bad either, made from rice and chestnut flour). Really lovely and bubbly atmosphere and we had to sit inside because outside was packed.
Hanne A — Google review
Nice place with very good food, the servings are quite big, the coffee was good. Service is professional, maybe a bit hectic and not so flexible. Good place to go but not amazing
Sucram A — Google review
We went there for breakfast and had eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce tasted and looked spoiled, it did not the silky texture. Drinks and coffee were good, as expected. I would recommend it for a nice coffee pit stop.
Oana M — Google review
As other reviews say, the food is great. But even better is the location: in a nice shaded alley away from the sun and heat!
Jernej K — Google review
My favorite brunch place in Trieste. Great food. Very nice staff. ... Full recommendation from my side!
Christoph H — Google review
The first order I placed came in wrong. I ordered a strawberry iced matcha with oat milk and the drink they served was brown with a bit of red mushed up strawberry in the bottom. When I mixed it it completely turned brown and the oat milk separated itself from the ice and it look completely disgusting. When I asked the staff about my drink they just said that the it wasn’t their fault that I drink turned out that way. The photo underneath this review is my strawberry ice matcha.

Nestled on a charming hill street known as Via Comici, Antica Trattoria Suban is a culinary gem that has been delighting visitors since its establishment in 1865. This family-run restaurant, now under the guidance of Mario Suban, offers an inviting atmosphere reminiscent of a cozy Tyrolean chalet with its dark wood decor and folk motifs.
This restaurant screams dedication, tradition, and quality. Excellent customer service and incredible atmosphere too! A must-go.
Lorenzo M — Google review
We had an amazing time at Suban! The food was absolutely delicious, the prices were very reasonable, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff was super friendly and fast. A special highlight was our chat with the owner, Mr. Mario, who gave us great advice on what to order and entertained us with some funny and memorable stories from the restaurant’s rich history. We’ll definitely be coming back!

If I can give 6 stars I would do it. Exceptional food experience, exceptional service, exceptional ambience. All the compliments to the cook, to attentive waiter Eric , and the rest of staff. We have been given even complimentary dishes (pancake with basil and parmesan). By far, best restaurant in Friuli region so far. We will be back definately!!! Vladimir

If you seek authenticity and excellent service this is the place to go in Trieste. It sit up high on the hills above the city. It is considered one of the top restaurants in Trieste and has been the place to go for decades. Our hotel concierge suggested for a meat based restaurant with excellent pasta too. Our taxi driver followed up with how it is the best in Trieste The setting in from on old elegant building from the last 1800s. The owner has run it since the 70s and he has served three Presidents and the Pope. He was present the night of our meal stopping by each table to chat. Such a sweet older gentleman. The servers are attentive and very welcoming. Service is fast but relaxed. Their English was good and they did have English menu. The wine selection is large. The menu is diverse but engage the server in providing recommendations as some of the dishes are unique. The goose breast salad and the poached egg on Polenta with artichoke hearts was excellent and the presentation lovely. Price point is very reasonable, especially for the quality. The meat is cooked behind open glass. The decor is warm and authentic. The space is huge and was very busy on a Monday night. It was mostly locals present during our time there. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the experience as a whole. It makes sense that it has had so many accolades. Highly recommend.
Wanderers B — Google review
High expectations, low outcome. After reading several recommendations online and reviews, we were ready to get amazed by the famous Trattoria Suban. However, it soon turned out to be a more „average“ restaurant near the city. Our appetizers were pre-made, the poached egg had the typical fridge after taste and the appetizer variation was rather cold than warm and sadly not fresh made. Taste wise it was ok, but nothing extra ordinary. We had the T-Bone steak for the main, which was rather chewy as it was undercooked and not medium rare as we ordered - which we also communicated to the waitress, without real feedback sadly. All in all, we would say it was rather average for the meals we had on this day - which made us sad, because Italy/Triest has always great food to offer.
Andreas — Google review
This restaurant is superstar, 10/10. The owner and staffs are very caring and hands-on. They have extremely high quality of service mind. Mario, the owner, very sweet gentleman greeted every table. All dishes served are cooked in the way that it should be, not overly seasoning… very elegant. I had a wonderful experience and would be back again.
Suchada K — Google review
I cannot recommend this place enough. The food we had (one of each course) was amazing (though the beetroot carpaccio be a little bit more salty and sour according to our taste), the staff was very experienced and friendly and the place was beautiful! We had pre-booked a table and told them about our food intolerances and not only did the waiter know upon our arrival and hearing the booking name that we were the table with intolerances but she could also list them and recommended dishes according to what we could eat or could be amended for us. One of the owners greeted every single table and asked whether everything was alright and the staff is multilingual. Overall we had a great time and will definitely go there again.
Selina — Google review
One of the oldest reataurants in Trieste and still superb food. You.can have something from the great selection of tradidional cusine, but also a good steal or even a degustation menu with selection of meals to try as much as possible from the menu. As a bonus owner is checkih your satisfaction with food and service and it must be close to 90 years of age. Only downside is to find a parking in the vicinity of the restautant so it is hihgly recommended to arrive with a taxy.

This is my favorite café in Trieste. I really like their coffee and pastries — especially the filter coffee and cappuccino. It’s a great place to hang out with friends or get some work done. They also offer free Wi-Fi. The staff are very friendly and speak English as well.

One of my favorite cafés in Trieste. I love their sweets, especially the red velvet cake and red velvet cupcake. Today, I also happened to try their vegan lunch, and I can say it’s really, really good. BUT, today we went there between 12:20 and 13:00, and the service was really BAD. One of the staff members kept chitchatting, not paying attention at all. I saw that our order was ready, but she stood there talking for about 2–3 minutes with one of her colleagues right in front of our cake and coffee before serving it. I mean, how can a staff member keep talking in front of a client’s order? Imagine her saliva landing on our food. Secondly, she didn’t even say “excuse me” or anything when she came to remove our plates. The really bad part was that she stood behind me, noisily throwing all the utensils onto the tray like she was mad or something. She also got my husband’s order wrong, which I can understand since it was a busy hour. However, I’ve never met such a rude staff member in my life until today.

maybe the best coffee I ever had. also, cookies and cupcakes are excellent. prices are ok, and the atmosphere is beautiful. staff is nice but sometimes a bit slow because it is usually crowded. the location is perfect: near the park and not so far away from the sea. I regret for not buying coffee for home (I haven’t realise that they sell coffee in bags, for home) but I do really hope to visit Trieste again soon. this is a place to be!!!

Caffe bar Stella Polare is a well-known historical place where the citizens have their meeting place. An exceptionally nice and pleasant place to hang out and talk. The birth of Caffè Stella Polare dates back to 1865. The unmistakable Viennese taste, with its classic decorations of stuccoes and mirrors, characterized by a place attended mainly by merchants of German origin and by many writers and artists both from Trieste and abroad. The visitors was Umberto Saba, his daughter Linuccia, Guido Voghera, Virgilio Giotti and James Joyce a teacher ( that time ) at the nearby Berlitz School, and many more….. Now, besides the traditional bar and cafeteria service, you can relax at lunch. For those who want a bit quiet, there is a comfortable and silent Tea Room available. In the inner room, in addition to finding a rich pastry department, a pictorial or photographic exhibition is permanently set up which hosts a different artist every two weeks. A great place to relax and enjoy the rich history. The service is exceptionally good, pleasant and professional.

A real italiano caffè with sandwiches and pastery for breakfast. Great coffee, ofc! 😅 Be carefull with food on your table if you stay outside, birds are not very shy 🙈 Enjoy!

040 Social Food, also known as Zeroquaranta, is a trendy cafe located in the heart of Trieste. It's particularly popular for its delicious hamburgers and inviting industrial interior with vintage accents. However, it's also an underrated breakfast spot offering pastries, brioches, and international cooked options from 10 am to 12 pm. The place offers good quality food with rapid service even during busy times and provides healthy alternatives and vegan options.
Perfect place for a dinner or late night drink. You will have to pay at the table if you are not getting food. Wait staff are very friendly and are willing to help you with any questions.

Had cheese burger and fries. I enjoyed both. It was a good break from pasta and pizza. Sat outdoor. Quite a number of smokers, which was not too enjoyable for me as a non-smoker, but that should be an Italy or Trieste and me thing rather than a Social Food thing.

Leaving a positive review on this one , actually me and my friends are always coming for aperitif here and now i decide to eat lunch here . Cuz my work is near from here. Food is good , coffee is good The staff is smiling and happy and can speak English as well .
Diana M — Google review
I would call this place anti-social food. Staff hate tourists. A pity cos this is well placed on the canal, looks amazing, but spoilt by frustrated staff.
Paul P — Google review
Great breakfast at a decent price. Coffee is nice and strong - the way I like it. Pop in for a quick bite before you start your day!
Raul J — Google review
The atmosphere is nice both inside, looks like a restored warehouse with high marching brink ceilings, and outside, lots of tables on the canal with morning sun. The food was good. However the service was slow, it took about 40 minutes for an order of toast with eggs. When I asked about the status after 35 minutes, the server was short and rude.
Riann S — Google review
Anywhere you go in Trieste, you will ALWAYS get some sort of chips or snack with your Aperitivo, except here apparently. I've gone here a few times over the span of years and went recently. I could not have made a worse decision. We were in a party of six, being quiet and not having done anything to upset the waiter. We had just arrived and immediately the waiter walks over asking dryly what we'd like to drink. Nobody had even had a chance to ponder this yet, but everyone responds within 45 seconds, which is seemingly too long for the waiter as he starts getting visibly annoyed. The drinks come all on their lonesome, no snacks nothing, although around 30% of the tables seem to get chips, seemingly almost selectively rude. It is customary to get some sort of finger food with aperitivo in trieste and never have I been somewhere here with such poor service that doesn't even serve finger food on a 6 person bill. It's quite literally 10 cents worth of chips. If you want a good time, go somewhere else, for example Theatro Rosetti, a place where you're treated well, pay less and a institution that deserves your support, unlike this one. Absolutely outrageous service and overpriced drinks
Felisimo M — Google review
Guests are not welcome here, honestly. This is a place where the waiters are lazy, slow, and unprofessional — though not exactly rude. They are not even deserving a 1 star review. I didn’t care much at first, but when I wanted to give feedback to the “manager” about a waiter bringing us a dirty and heavily stained placemat, I was instead confronted about why we had moved inside and changed tables, simply because my friends and I were cold, which was fair enough to be honest, but if we waited any longer we would be catching hypothermia since the waiting stuff were "too busy" let's say... Instead of listening to my feedback, this so-called manager gave me an attitude. In the end, I almost felt sorry for her, as she seemed to have bigger problems in life. Her behavior was both irritating and unprofessional for someone working in hospitality. Such a pitty, nice location, nice restaurant, but people working there have no clue about hospitality.

Il Pane Quotidiano - Lungomare is a charming bakery-cafe located in Trieste's Barcola neighborhood, offering a delightful experience by the sea. Embracing the local culture, it provides traditional breakfasts and freshly baked goods in an upscale setting with alfresco seating and a suspended terrace overlooking the Adriatic. The modern wood-clad building features a lower deck with seaside sun loungers for soaking up the sun.
Nice spot to take breakfast, if you can find a table. The Carabinieri also their coffee there so I guess it's approved. The ginseng was a bit sweet for my taste but the Carsolina (I guess the local version of the kremschnitt) was very good, maybe too crunchy but that's the recipe.
Arckpi — Google review
During our stay in Trieste in the last week of June, I spent two pleasant hours on one of the white loungers with a fantastic view of the coast and the sea while my friends toured Miramare Castle. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Afterwards, we all enjoyed a delicious glass of Prosecco with some tasty snacks on the terrace. And were happy.

A nice beach bar with a big terrace with a beautiful view of the ocean. You can order drinks and food for takeout or dining in. The waiters could speak English and communicate with us, but we had to call them to our table to get their attention. Also the food are just snacks and small bites instead of meals. All of the pieces on the menu are fairly priced and we also received a complementary bowl of chips.

Great location, but for the cold days, there's almost not place to sit or to hang out inside. Also, not the nicest waiter. Perfect for summer ♥️

Caffe Pirona, established in 1900 by Alberto Pirona, holds a significant place in the city's history and has welcomed esteemed guests such as James Joyce. The cafe's charming interiors and Liberty-style outdoor seating provide a tranquil escape from the bustling Largo Barriera. Visitors can savor high-quality coffee or indulge in velvety hot chocolate made from premium cacao.
This historic cafe (often frequented by James Joyce) was across the street from my hotel. I loved the variety of petit-four-size pastries and sampled a number of them. My favorite was the one that was salted caramel, topped with a pecan. The service was prompt and friendly.

traditional and beautiful attention. There is not much variety of sweets but those that are there are divine. The decoration of the place was paralyzed in the 40s, it is something that people like me who love places with soul and history enjoy. The young woman's attention is wonderful.

So to be clear this is hands down the best and nicest bakery/patisserie in the world. If you care for such things it was frequented by Joyce but more than that it looks so impossibly cute. Everything is great but the maritozzi are sublime. About 10 times better than anywhere in Rome. In case they sold them out come the next day. It’s that good.

This Historic cafe has been back for a while now and I'm so glad about it. Cafe is good but make no mistake, you will come here for the pastries: the mignon with whipped cream are heavenly delicious and definitely my favourites. You can't go wrong choosing the maritozzo or the sacher though. The classic interior, which preserves the historic value of this cafe is a treat too. Highly rcommended, James Joyce would approve!

Nestled in the heart of Trieste, Pasticceria da Ily is a delightful gluten-free patisserie that caters to those with dietary restrictions, including lactose intolerance and vegan preferences. This charming bakery is a true haven for anyone avoiding wheat flour, offering an impressive array of pastries made from rice, almond, and corn flours. The selection includes mouthwatering mini tarts filled with pistachios, blueberries, mangoes, and passion fruit—each bite bursting with flavor.
Delicious coffee, cake and panini (vegan and caprese)! And they’re pet friendly, too! The bread was perfectly balanced—crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside— which can be difficult to achieve with gluten-free breads. The apple cake was lovely and soft, too! We’ll definitely come back again. Grazie!

So soft! not to mention the donut with cream..heaven! Love this place! Grazie! <3

I had a wonderful experience at this charming café. The staff were polite and welcoming. Their croissants, mini pizza's, macaroni—absolutely stunning! The croissants had chocolate and fruity filling which complete flavour of the dough, while the macaroni was delicate, creamy, and full of flavor. Mini pizza was soft and fluffy with generous amount of cheese. It’s rare to find a place that gets both sweet and savory so right. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a cozy spot with top-notch service and delicious food.

Pizza, sandwiches, sweets, desserts, cakes, bread, mixed cold cuts, cheese and much more strictly GLUTEN FREE. Kind and professional staff. I suggest in particular the strudel. Very good Italian coffee (espresso). Indoor and outdoor tables and take away. Quiet and elegant environment.
Valerio M — Google review
Sadly didn’t taste like what you would expect a croissant to a taste like. Wasn’t soft, airy or buttery but harsh and a strange taste. I chose Pistachio of which there was a lot of chocolate, to make up for the lack of croissant quality. Sorry, the venue was a little too pink and instagrammy for my liking. Personally should’ve turned when I saw that.
Grainne B — Google review
I had been looking forward to visiting this bakery for days. I really want to give it a higher rating but the food was just disappointing. I ordered a vegan sandwich but the focaccia was rock hard-I couldn’t even eat it. I think they also tried to warm it up, but only 1/3 of the sandwich was actually warm, the rest was “fridge cold”. The chocolate cake I got was ok, nothing remarkable. My husband’s sandwich was also very crunchy. The strudel was probably one of the better items we ordered. I often feel that GF bakeries with too many items struggle to do well in quality control. Either things get stale/old or they are just trying to do too much and I suspect that is the case here. The best GF bakeries, to me, offer a handful of really good items on a rotating basis. I will say the service was great, even though they were busy.

Torta Ricotta e susine - buona :) COMUNQUE : I took a big cappuccino (which is on the menu and costs a little more than the usual cappuccino) and I still got it in an average size cup 🙂 Why do you put it on the menu and let people pay more, if you still make it a usual size cappuccino?

If you're on the hunt for a gluten-free paradise, look no further than 'Un Mondo Senza Glutine.' This delightful spot may be slightly off the beaten path, but its spacious layout and inviting outdoor seating make it a welcoming retreat. Here, those with gluten or lactose intolerances can indulge in an impressive array of delicious options—from mouthwatering pizzas to delectable pastries that are anything but ordinary.
I thought I am in heaven first! Such a big variety of options and all GF. Their pizzas are delicious as are most of the things I tried. I didn’t particularly liked the croissant as I found the filo pastry to be too thick to my taste. But other sweets (and pizza) - very delicious! They also have good variety of dairy free options. Please note that if you also have allergy to almond the place uses almond milk as a vegetable alternative in their non-dairy pastries. So if you have a strong almond allergy sadly this place won’t suite you. Otherwise - go and feel in heaven!

Normally I never write bad reviews but today’s encounter at this place had me at lost for words…I know I shouldn’t have brought in a cannolo from another shop, but I still ordered and paid for my coffee without issue. Instead of addressing it calmly, the owner/worker there(not sure?)chose to gossip about me in Italian and later confronted me with passive-aggressive and verbally hostile remarks. It felt unprofessional and unnecessary, especially from someone representing the business. Perhaps focusing more on improving attitude would be better for customers and I hope she remembers me every time she sees a cannolo.”

It is a great place to start the day with great coffee and a very large options of cake, biscuits and chocolates. I took the Venetian and the Pistachio biscuit. We started the day with breakfast at the oldest cafe in Trieste, Pasticceria La Bomboniera, which dates back to 1836. This Austro-Hungarian style pastry shop specializes in pastries like Rigojancsi, Sacher, Linzer, and Pischinger. They still use the original wood-fired oven.

Poor service. They forgot our order after we waited for 20 minutes at the terrace. With only 5 other table with guests. They speak only Italian. There is like 5-6 people working and no one didn’t even try to say 1 word of english. After we said that they forget cakes for our kids, we waited for 10 minutes and they forget it again. And one important thing. They do not have a toilet. This is also against the Italian law.

Vatta Cafe, in the outskirts of Trieste on the Karst Plateau of Opicina, is a great spot for breakfast. The Friuli Venezia Giulia region at large highly recommends it, and has received three coffee beans from Gambero Rosso, Italy's highest accolade for cafés.
Great for a business lunch. This is an upscale bar: elegant, modern, and serving tasty food.

The Ambiente is good. Opicina is beautiful so it adds to the scenery. The service was alright. The staff seemed a little stressed. The breakfast was not really tasty. The salmon in the English breakfast was smelly and didn’t seem fresh. The sausages to the American breakfast looked like they came straight from a lab and the pancakes were overall reaaaally sweet… Overall not a bad experience but in Trieste you can get a much better breakfast for the same price!

Super Caffe, very good breakfast, very busy on a sunday morning but also very quick. They bring you your coffee in under 3 mins. Will come again for sure. Caffè Vatta in Trieste offers excellent tiramisu (the best I’ve ever had, seriously) and Illy coffee, perfect for a quick stop near the cruise port. At €2-5, it’s a great value. But even with a mild crowd, the hectic, stressful vibe can detract from the experience. Tasty food, but not ideal for lingering.

Caffè Sacher Trieste is a place where you can experience the Viennese influence with a variety of desserts such as strudel, sacher, and krapfen. The most famous local desserts include pinza, presnitz, and putizza, which are Easter and Christmas cakes made with ingredients like walnuts, raisins, pine nuts, and dried oranges.
Absolutely stunning atmosphere, delicious sandwich and coffee! And super enthusiastic/friendly staff a d owner who told us all about the history of the city! 10/10 would recommend! Would definitely come back again!
Pleo L — Google review
Nice atmosphere, kind of what you'd expect from a classic/iconic viennese place. We tried to buy a whole cake but some sizes weren't available. I am not a huge fan of sacher torta so I got the small one with rum, it was more dense, and in my opinion the rum balances out the sweetness of the cake. As expected the prices are high, the coffee price doesn't make sense in a city with already great and cheaper coffee, but I guess that's typical from touristy cafés.
Ruba — Google review
We visited Café Sacher in Trieste several times, and each experience was truly exceptional. The level of service and quality of the products is outstanding — even when visiting with children, everything was handled with care and professionalism. The beautifully renovated historical venue, with its tailored interiors, creates a unique sense of exclusivity and intimacy. It’s a calm and elegant atmosphere (different from the sometime more chaotic vibe of the Vienna location). Prices are in line with those at the Vienna Café Sacher. In fact, we paid similar prices in other parts of Trieste’s city center, but the quality and ambiance at Café Sacher were simply incomparable. A true “place to be” in Trieste — highly recommended!
Diana C — Google review
The Sacher Café in Trieste presents a beautiful setting — a creative architectural remake of a historic shoe shop, where wooden shelves that once held boxes of shoes now display Sacher torte. It’s an imaginative and refined concept, well worth seeing. Unfortunately, this striking backdrop is entirely undermined by the lack of hospitality. Service, cleanliness, and basic attentiveness fall far below the standard expected in any establishment — let alone one operating at this price point. The management and staff conduct — from the way they interacted with guests to their overall appearance — suggested either poor hiring or a total lack of training for a setting that claims to be refined. The atmosphere felt unorganised, unclean, and entirely at odds with the brand’s positioning. Staff are unable to oversee the room, clear tables promptly, welcome and seat guests, or handle even basic orders correctly — despite not having to attend a full house; there were only about eight tables to serve in total. Two visible staff, a waiter and a barman (both also acting as cashiers), were managing front-of-house and appeared visibly stressed and preoccupied. A third individual appeared sporadically from the back, possibly from the kitchen, but was entirely disengaged — showing no initiative, nor the slightest awareness that he might assist in clearing tables or supporting his colleagues. The team not only lacks basic training in hospitality and in managing a premium establishment , but also appears to have received no guidance on appropriate guest interaction or personal presentation. Responses to guests are often inappropriate, or simply rude — suggesting a fundamental misunderstanding of how to behave in a customer-facing role. One staff member behind the bar had long hair loosely clipped up with a plastic claw, the rest left hanging — a style more suited to an afternoon at home than to front-of-house in a luxury establishment. The cake was good; everything else was not. Tea arrived in a pot barely sufficient for a single cup, with no napkins, no attention to table hygiene, and several forgotten elements that had been part of the order. The establishment charges at a level consistent with high-end hospitality, yet offers none of the structure or professionalism to support it.
EMA — Google review
Let's start with what I love about this place, the ambient is so nice, the staff so kind and helpful. We got some aperitivo drinks and with it came the pleasant surprise, the finger food. Usually in Italy with alcohol they serve chips, but this is a level-up. Since the place is known for their Sacher cakes I was looking forward on trying them. Unfortunately we are now coming to the part that I didn't like.. the Sacher cake, it just wasn't that good, lacked moisture due to that it was dry.
Tamara G — Google review
Beautiful space — and that’s honestly the only positive thing I can say about this place. I would comment on the food and drinks, but we never got that far. We were understanding and patient, knowing there was a regatta happening in town, but this kind of treatment was still unexpected. We entered the café, sat down at one of the tables, and waited to be served. After 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging us, we got up and left. While sitting there, we noticed the dynamic between the waiters and what seemed to be the shift manager (we assume he was the manager because he behaved as if he were above the staff — in a very rude and arrogant way). We were seated close to the cash register, where a woman came to pay, followed shortly by another couple. They waited about 5 minutes before they could pay and leave. One waiter tried to process the payment, but the manager arrogantly stopped him, telling him to go outside because he was the only one who handled payments. Then, the manager himself went outside to the terrace and returned after a few minutes to finally process their payment — the customers were visibly upset. Shortly before we decided to leave, a group of older Italian tourists came in. The manager immediately went to greet them and started arranging where to seat them — all while we had been sitting there for about 10 minutes without anyone approaching us. That’s when we decided to leave. We mentioned this to one of the waiters on our way out, and he politely asked us to sit down again, saying he would take care of us right away. We thanked him but declined. Meanwhile, the manager started seating the Italian group at the same table we had just left — which clearly shows he hadn’t even noticed we were there at all. That alone speaks volumes about how unprofessional his service was. Being a manager isn’t easy, but it requires someone observant, skilled, and attentive — someone who can read the room, notice who has arrived, and ensure guests are served and billed in a timely manner (especially if only the manager is allowed to handle payments). Overall, extremely unprofessional, careless, and rude. It’s a shame that a café using such a prestigious name as Sacher operates this way. I do not recommend it to anyone.
Patricia N — Google review
My review is only based on the Sacher cake food item which I took by take-away. Since I did grow up by eating this kind of sweet, that were always available by the local bakery shops, I do feel quite confident to review the quality of this Cake. I was quite curious to taste the "original" Viennese style Sacher, but I have to be honest I got a bit disappointed. Price do not respect the quality. The slice of cake seemed a bit dry, very little dash of marmalade which can't even be noticed when you slice it. Of course the best experience maybe is to eat this at the shop and feel the atmosphere of it. Anyway, is not bad at all but for 8 euros for this item is a bit too much expensive.

A terrific taste of Vienna in Italy. I took my daughter there and found the staff very helpful, the service excellent, and the coffee and torte were exceptional. Expect to pay a higher price, but for the experience - worth it.

Charlotte is a must-visit for breakfast, offering a unique experience with fantastic croissants and delicious almond pastries. The open laboratory allows you to witness the passionate work of the staff. The young and friendly team adds to the enjoyable atmosphere. With fluffy, fresh croissants filled with cream and a variety of vegan options, this traditional bakery is definitely worth a visit for high-quality sweets and coffee.
I frequently visit Trieste and a stop for breakfast at Charlotte is always on my itinerary! For starters, the vibe is always pleasant with friends and families enjoying their special treats. The selection of pastries is excellent with a huge variety of both sweet and savory items - I’m always excited to see what new creation they have on offer. Finally, the owners are such warm cheerful people and I’m always happy to support young entrepreneurs and their family business. A breakfast at Charlotte’s is a must for anyone visiting Trieste!

Like their slogan, made with Love & butter, the food is above average! The staffs are nice! Good atmosphere!! I would recommend to come to open your morning! 🌞

Special croissants and filled pastries in all different dimensions is what you can get here. The spot is a bit overrated I would say. The croissants were good, but not overwhelming in my mind. The coffee was unfortunately a bit disappointing although I tried it on different days. I guess that’s something individual.

Beautiful, little spot in Trieste with perfect food! People who work here are the loveliest people you can find, always smiling, ready to serve you. So many options that you don't even know where to start... you just wanna lay down in the middle of the shop and just look at all the beautiful creations. ❤️ If you come in the morning, the smell of freshly baked pastries is insane! This little patisserie shop has become my favourite place to escape to. Either to sit down and have a breakfast there or just to take away - it makes your day instantly better!

At McDonald's Trieste Via Flavia, you’ll find a classic fast-food experience that’s both familiar and convenient. This bustling location boasts ample parking, making it easy to stop by even on busy evenings. While the food is typically served quickly and accurately—thanks in part to an efficient vending machine ordering system—there are some areas for improvement. The cleanliness of the restrooms could use attention, and there have been reports of issues with card payments, as only Mastercard is accepted at this outlet.

I felt like one or two people extra for staff could help improve the service. There were no more then 15 people sunday evening and we had to wait in a queue to pay... It's not the staff fault: you could see they were busy doing a bunch of stuff; perhaps the boss could hire one more person...
Davide B — Google review
The quality of the food has been steadily declining, and any remaining flavour is reminiscent of cardboard. The service is severely lacking in professionalism and attentiveness. While it is unfortunate, this situation does provide some help in resisting from occasional cravings for McDonald's that may arise from childhood nostalgia.

We ordered the food from a vending machine and they were brought out quickly. We received everything from the order and the lady who brought it out was very nice! There was a problem with the order: the terminal DOES NOT ACCEPT the Visa card! (Only Mastercard is accepted, and those who don't happen to have such a card could have some unpleasant moments). I think this is quite a serious problem for a global company! It has a large parking lot and we easily found a place on Sunday evening. The place is busy but not overcrowded and characterized by the usual noise.

Everything ok regarding food and place, toilets would need some more attention. One thing I did not like was the EV charger, you need to spend 20€ to charge (do not know which charging speed is supported).

In the Google Maps and on the door it works till 1.00 on Saturdays but in fact you’re will here that just McDrive works and you couldn’t order anything without a car. The workers are also really rude and don’t wanna help you. Just, thanks to two strangers that helped me to make an order but I still can’t have my food because they said they don’t wanna do the ice cream so late. The worst service I had.

"The Taste of Home" is a popular spot in Trieste, offering an extensive breakfast menu with excellent coffee at reasonable prices. The friendly and efficient staff make sure to provide great service even during busy times. Located in the lively Piazza Della Borsa, this gem stands out for its top-notch food, including authentic Italian breakfast options and American-style dishes like bacon. While some patrons found the portions slightly small, others appreciated the delicious pancakes-based menu.
A delicious breakfast, as suggested by the hotel owner where we stayed. The staff are friendly and courteous. I would keep coming back for more as long as I stay in Trieste.

I love that everything is based on pancakes. Almost every dish here is with their fluffy pancakes. It was delicious, but a bit small. I had the easy brunch and it was slightly too small. Two tiny bacon pieces and one egg on a tiny toast. For 11€. The coffee was good 😊 It was not completely filling, so could have been larger portions.

Walked in to eat, but experienced the rudest service as the waitress was literally yelling at a group of guests and pushed them to wait outside. The guest started arranging two tables themselves, which I understand the staff prefer to do themselves. But you can use your words to nicely tell them. That experience led us to walk out as we were waiting for a table.

Urbanis, located at Piazza della Borsa 15, has a rich history dating back to 1832 when it was originally a pastry shop. The floor mosaics and charming depiction of the Bora wind pay homage to its origins. Now transformed into a chic bar with evening entertainment and serving three light meals daily, it offers an irresistible experience. While the interior underwent renovations, the whimsical floor mosaics remain intact.

Nestled in the heart of Trieste, Viezzoli is a charming family-run establishment that has evolved beautifully since its inception as a bakery in 1962. Over the years, it expanded to include a pastry shop and relocated to its current inviting space in 2008. A brilliant addition was made with an adjacent area transformed into an open-view laboratory, allowing visitors to witness the artistry behind their freshly baked bread right from the elegant pedestrian street outside.
Located super centrally Viezzoli is a joy for the eyes. And very importantly for your palate too! Their selection is huge. It offers both sweet and savory options. Much appreciated the presence of patisserie mignon & bread flavored with things like olives (one of my favorites!). They have some tables inside in a beautiful environment and then many more outdoor, nicely covered by a gazebo immersed in a pedestrian area, one of the most beautiful and lively in Trieste. The personnel is quick and kind, so you can enjoy equally a quick snack-to-go or a longer stay.

The staff were so cute and fun! They had great music playing while we had yummy Aperol, Hugo, and snacks!

I visit this bar regularly, and have no complaints. Morning, day and night, the waitresses are so friendly and accommodating. Recently I have enjoyed their addition on the menu of iced coffees in this heat. I have no faults with their cocktails and aperitifs, especially as there is always an abundance of snacks to enjoy with an aperol, Hugo or the new custom spritz flavours, while taking in the bustling street. I’ll always return time and time again, couldn’t recommend more to locals and tourists asking for local tips.

Receipt in the photos!❗❗❗ A lovely café with a cozy ambiance, soft lighting and low music. The brioche and the krapfen were excellent 🔥🌟, with rich cream, and the chocolate filling was real chocolate 👀🍫, not nutella. Great service, though the room was a bit warm 🥵

(Translated by Google) Delicious desserts, tried almost everything, and of course incredible coffee - rich and aromatic. In the morning it is very noisy and there are queues at the counter due to the number of guests, but this only indicates the popularity of the establishment. The average check for 2 for coffee and pastries is 7-10 euros. You can wait a long time for a waitress at a table, but when the order is taken, it is quickly taken out.

(Translated by Google) I went this morning to get some bread and a cake. Total disorganization. 4/5 clerks behind the counter, chaos and disregard for the customer reigned. While I was talking, the clerk was annoyed, and there was no appropriate response to my requests; it was clear she was only half-listening. Bottom line: I paid more than I should have because I didn't get a response on the cost of a cake, and in my haste, I gave up and got it anyway. Plus, if they had been good products, I would have been fine, but no, not even that. I got home, tasted the bread, and it seemed days old, the tongs were so dry they were hard to swallow. Go elsewhere. Andate altrove.

What a dissapointment I mean, really, where would you expect to get one of those classical Illy cups? No doubt: you would expect to get them here, in Trieste, in Trieste's Illy shop. But you don't. It seems that Illy is a poorly organized company. What a shame. It was the only reason to come to Trieste (and I would not recommed anybody to visit this Trieste, boring place - go to Milano).

Great bar in Trieste, great coctails, very kind host, great location in center of the city, very good prices, for every recomandation

This is a small bistro/full bar (plus library on the second floor, hence the name “caffe’ dei libri”, meaning books’ café’) located on a pedestrian zone in the center of the city. We stopped here just for a couple of glasses of wine, which came with chips and various other snacks (in Trieste you’ll never have a drink without at least some free chips!). I love their décor inside (their chandeliers are particular and a nice touch), but since it was a gorgeous chilly day, we sat on their outdoor patio, which I found relaxing even if it’s in the middle of a very crowded pedestrian zone. Their wine was good, the service was very fast and the prices very reasonable. Next time I’m in Trieste, I’ll surely visit their library and try their panini/tramezzini.

With the girls off for a night on the tiles Paulicarus brought me here for a big beer. (Fohrenburger..from Austria) The large red sign even says BAR. The next door eating area was full / tables reserved. Famous place for pig served every which way. (Same furniture so think same owners?) Lots of outdoor space for us to find an empty table. We had good and friendly service. Once again huge scoobie snacks..a big bowl of potato chips and a large jar of salted peanuts. Seems a nice place. Big Austrian beer 5€. Prosecco 4€

I have been insulted -> I have booked in this restaurant in order to enjoy the typical lively Triestine buffet atmosphere with a friend from abroad. When I arrived, they instead brought us to the restaurant besides them, which was almost empty and not lively at all, saying that the food was the same. As we booked for something completely different, we left for a more busy place while apologizing. We have been insulted while living, with the barman threatening me when I reacted...

Very good vibe at first, english speaking waiteres, order went well, problem started after we got our food. One plate was not what we have ordered, tried to ask for rectification, waiteres refused to fullfill our reqest so we had to eat what we got. Also some of menu Items were not avaliable. Quality of food is mediocre, nothing to stop for really. Not enught salt and pepper. I reccomend other restaurants, away from main square. Lot of turist traps based on improper manu/clear pricing around there.

Decent food but a couple of incredibly rude members of staff. My fiancé and I tried to use our basic Italian but were met with eye-rolling, sighing and even an audible nasty remark when we struggled to understand the menu. A real shame to treat anyone in that way.

Very bad, when I fished my meal, the waiter asked me to pay inside. Then I found that the bill was higher than what I ordered, I asked the boss, he talked with me in Italian, I told him that I don’t understand, he just kept talking in Italian. Then I showed him what I ordered, he started to make another receipt to me without saying sorry. Then I found that he can speak English. Very bad experience, very dishonest, I have been to Europe many times, it never happened, I won’t go there again. Please check your bill before paying. I saw the previous comments, it happened to other customers too. It really gives me the bad image of this city.
Chienting C — Google review
THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT NICE! I've just spent a week in Trieste. 3 days in a row I came here for my afternoon espresso, seated outside. On my 4th visit, I was completely over charged for the exact same thing. When I asked why, I was told it was because I sat outside. I explained I have been outside previously. They then both ignored me and waited for me to go away without clear explanation. I feel I was deliberately over charged because I do not speak Italian well. This spoiled my enjoyment of the whole City.

Nestled in the heart of Trieste, Pasticceria Maritani is a delightful haven for dessert lovers. Since its establishment in 1928, this charming patisserie has been captivating both locals and travelers with an impressive selection of pastries and cakes that are as beautiful to behold as they are delicious to taste. The menu features local specialties like pinza and putizza, alongside exquisite treats such as pistachio éclairs and tiramisu that leave a lasting impression.

Great service. Fair prices. Quiet location (but kinda ugly tbh). Its busy early in the day. 15€ for 3 pastries and a coffee (August 2025). Definitely recommend. One of the better cafes we visited in Trieste.
Alexander P — Google review
Pasticceria Maritani in Trieste is nothing short of a divine temple of sweetness (whoa!) where every bite feels like a royal decree of confectionery excellence. Since 1928, this venerable institution has been enchanting the palates of locals and visitors alike with its spectacular array of pastries and cakes that are as visually stunning as they are delectably sumptuous. Nestled near the illustrious Piazza Unità, Maritani is a beacon for anyone who dares to indulge in the finest desserts Trieste has to offer. Step inside, and you are greeted by a display case that could rival a jeweler’s showcase—each pastry a gem, each tart a masterpiece. The passion tart, for instance, is a revelation: perfectly balanced, not too sweet, bursting with fresh fruit that sings a symphony of flavors on your tongue. This is no mere pastry shop; it is a sanctuary where sugar and artistry dance in harmonious splendor. Beware —this is a place where the quality and richness of the sweets are so palpable, you can almost taste the craftsmanship in the air itself. So, don't forget to plan several training sessions in your favourite sports ahead of visiting. :-) In sum, Pasticceria Maritani is a decadent delight, a luscious legend, and a must-visit for anyone who appreciates the art of pastry at its most opulent and joyous. A visit here is not just a treat; it’s an indulgent celebration of life’s sweetest pleasures. Don't forget to have some Espresso for digestion. :-)

Amazing confectionery. The only flaw was the price for coffees (€4.5 for double espresso) as it was the most expensive item in the bill, very good taste though. The rest was simply outstanding, especially the small passion fruit or mango piece of smth (a cake or idk) — it was absolutely out of the world. The rest of the desserts were also delicious, no kidding. The service was great, attentive and helpful. Tables are available both inside and outside.
