Arco de la Estrella is a medieval stone arch in Caceres, featuring a Catholic shrine and ramparts that overlook the walled city. It was built in the 18th century on an arch from the 15th century, with Baroque style by Manuel de Larra Churriguera. The arch has great amplitude and skew to facilitate the way of carriages to the Monumental City.
One of the most beautiful old cities 🫶 must visit.

The Torre de Bujaco, also known as the Bujaco Tower, is a significant landmark in Caceres, Spain. Built by the Almohads in the 12th century on Roman foundations, it holds historical importance as the last bastion defended by Christian knights during a siege. Today, it offers panoramic views of the city and is one of its best viewpoints.
Highly recommend paying the small entrance fee and climbing up the city walls when you visit Torre de Bujaco. There is a small exhibition room as well as access to ancient Roman ruins. This bird’s eye view of of Cáceres is an ideal place to start your visit to this UNESCO world heritage recognized historic town center.

One of the key attractions in a lovely Caceres. You will visit a tower (although there are plenty of them in a town) and a section of the town wall. You will get great views of the central square from the tower
Darius S — Google review
The best spot to take photos, and for Panoramic views of the old city landmarks. For 3 euros, you can visit three towers, and read about history if the city. Unfortunately, all the written descriptions and illustrations are in Spanish which is not very welcoming for international visitors.
Dr. E — Google review
As an iconic monument in the centre of Caceres, Bujaco Tower was built in 12th century by the Moors. Standing about 25 metres high, this roughly square tower is located in Plaza Mayor at the entrance to Caceres's Old Town. I am Uploading two photos.

Must see in Cáceres! Great views over the city and bonus visit of remainders of Roman foundations.
Tim V — Google review
When we arrived there appeared to be a line of 10 or so (two pairs of 2 and a large family) just inside the gate but it was not at all clear what the line was for (no signage). There was a person at the front of the line giving information to a couple and essentially blocking access to where I assume you can buy tickets. Was she staff? A private guide? Just a friend who knows a bit about the tower? She had nothing to identify her as staff. We waited 10 or so minutes for the line to move or for some acknowledgement from this person but neither happened. Some people in this time had arrived, waited some minutes and left. We decided that maybe we were standing in a line for no reason so we attempted to see if there was a ticket office around the corner but we were stopped by this person and rather rudely told to just wait - no explanation for what we were waiting for or how long. Would we have to wait another 10+ minutes for the next couple to get the same information and then again for the family? Who knows. We left disappointed at not even being able to see the Torre or views. It wasn't the worst experience (hence 2* and not 1), just disappointing and a waste of time. It is nice from the outside and I'm sure nice inside. Please note, we speak and read Spanish so it was not a language barrier, just unorganised and unclear.

Nestled in the heart of Caceres, the Palace of Los Golfines de Abajo stands as a stunning testament to 15th-century architecture. Once home to a noble family, this grand palace showcases an exquisite blend of Gothic, Renaissance, and Plateresque styles that captivate every visitor. Its remarkable facade is just a glimpse into the rich history contained within its walls. The palace is said to have hosted Ferdinand and Isabella during their reign, adding to its historical significance.
Book a guided tour to enjoy your visit at the museum. Our guide explained the concept and relevance of each room and answered our questions very well. Don’t miss out the intricate murals on the wall, tapestries, and the well-preserved vogue magazine during the 15th century. You can request for an English speaking guide for your visit.
Lyn M — Google review
You can only visit the palace in a guided visit, but it’s totally worth it! The guide was super nice and really engaging and the palace has many unique features! You’ll be in rooms that remain the same from the XVI century and other rooms more typical of the XIX century. You’ll follow the story of the Golfines family throughout many centuries. It’s very interesting, highly connected with the Spanish story itself. The palace is impeccably renovated! Highly recommend this visit!

Apart from one room (sala de armas) and the building itself, there is nothing really to see if any importance. Many more places in Cáceres that are more worth visiting. Besides we had a very rude and unprofessional guide Elena that was guiding us. Not a top attraction at all.

Plaza de San Jorge is a charming square located in the old town of Caceres. It serves as the starting point for an electric cart tour through the city, making it accessible for those with mobility challenges. The square offers access to attractions such as the Mercedes Calle Foundation Museum, the Church of San Francisco Javier, and the tranquil Dona Cristina de Ulloa gardens.
Fabulous square that featured as a film location in season 1 of House of the Dragon.

This is very nice spot to explore the old town in Caceres. Walking around this area taking random streets is the best way to explore the historical nature this town has to offer. I would highly recommend a visit to here while visiting. There is a small entrance fee here if you wish to enter the church to obtain better views of the city and old town.

Restaurante Torre de Sande is a historic eatery located in the heart of Caceres, offering a blend of past, present, and future experiences. The establishment has expanded to include La Casa hotel and Casa Palacio: Paredes Saavedra. With over thirty years of history, it's committed to preserving the environment while providing a warm welcome to visitors. The restaurant boasts an enchanting walled garden for delightful summer dining.
Outstanding menu with plenty of local inspired dishes. I started with the cheese croquettes which were tasty and well fried and had the squid/chickpeas/spinach stew as my main. I was pleasantly surprised by the straightforward way everything was prepared, more mother’s touch than Michelin experiments. I had a glass of light Spanish rosé proposed by our waiter and a wonderful local dessert. The prices are well adjusted to the great quality provided. All in all we had our best lunch during our New year’s holidays.
Nikos P — Google review
Wonderful restaurant! It was our final dinner in Caceres and was a spectacular meal. We were seated in the courtyard below the tower which creates a beautiful atmosphere. My wife and I decided on the tasting menu with a bottle of Riesling. Each part of the menu was delicious. The prawns had a flavor that was unique. The fish course had a substitute of scallop in a peanut sauce topped with foam. The Russian salad was great and the acorn fed pork was spectacular! The service was good, our only issue was they were so busy right from opening it took a bit to get our wine. The person who we believe to be the manager or owner even took the time to visit every table and chat. A very personable and enjoyable experience.
S M — Google review
Located in the Casco Antiguo and run by the same team as El Atrio, this restaurant provides outstanding classic Spanish specialties in a sophisticated setting. We had a seven course lunch where every detail was carefully curated. Service was friendly and impeccable. Highly recommended!
M. H — Google review
Our final dinner after visiting Caceres for 10 days, and we may have saved the best for last! (if Atrios doesn't count) The garden seating was wonderful and relaxing, the wine list spectacular, and the food was incredible. They were very careful with my husband's gluten allergy. You must try the ensalada rosa -- it's not going to be what you think it's going to be. Every bite of every course was incredible. Gracias!
Jen G — Google review
What a great place!!! First of all, the restaurant itself is so beautiful. We set in the garden and it was just magical. The service was very nice and attentive. We shared all of the dishes so they split them for us which was great. The food was on point! Everything we took was super good. I definitely recommend the croquettes- they are on a different level. The dumplings were delicious 🤤 The only complaint is that the cod was a bit disappointing , lacked of taste in my opinion, but it still was ok. This place is worth a visit.
Dana L — Google review
Superb food, service and ambience. What more can I say. We came for a long lunch in the palace courtyard, hoping for something special. It was an absolute delight and met our expectations. Each course was excellent. The staff were fantastic and knew all the wines and dishes very well. I will return for sure.
Laura F — Google review
Excellent food without a doubt, but what was most excellent was the service of Alba and Oben, both are really good assets to the establishment. Alba was the most excellent service staff we encountered for a time, hope she does well in life. It was a very pleasureable evening and we are grateful to Oben for taking time to talk to us and make us feel very special.

Historic Walking Areas
The Old Town of Cáceres is a medieval area with well-preserved walls and a fascinating mix of architectural styles including Roman, Moorish, Gothic, and Renaissance buildings. The modern city lies below while the historic center sits on a promontory surrounded by medieval walls and watchtowers. Strolling through its narrow streets feels like wandering through a labyrinth of history. This area was declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO in 1986 due to its unique blend of architectural influences.
So beautiful and well maintained. I always expected a knight on a horse to come around the corner. It's a little bit annoying during the winter that some attractions are closed from 2 to 5 pm when the sun is shining and it's a bit warm but open in the evening when it's cold.
CNX E — Google review
Full of many magnificent buildings few of which can entered and few of which seem occupied by families. The city is a museum piece and while one can marvel at the energy and commitment involved in its construction it does seem soulless. No bars or shops that we found in that part of the city we explored. It was worth visiting but my preference is for the small towns which are alive and atmospheric. Try Alcantara for example and appreciate the contrast.
Duncan P — Google review
That Town is in my opinion very underrated, because it's so, so beautiful! I reccomend to visit if you're travelling through Spain, it's definitely worth it. The Old Town is just breath taking, and seeing this at night time gives you an opportunity to feel the place, its spirit.
Klaudia B — Google review
A great place to break our journey south for a wander around the city and grab a coffee. Lots of interesting buildings.

Casa-Museo Árabe Yusuf Al-Burch is a restored 12th-century house located in the heart of Caceres' old town. Situated between Plaza San Jorge and Arco del Cristo, this traditional Moorish home offers a glimpse into the city's history during the Moorish rule. The museum showcases colorful period decor, furnishings, and architecture, providing insight into the lives of its former inhabitants.
We visited this museum or restored house and it was a joy to walk around. The lady who was operating it was fluent in English and very enthusiastic about the history it preserves of the Arabic time in Cacares. Her grandfather is the person who started to restore the building and she continues the passion to preserve this history. Well worth the visit

We were so happy to find this lovely little museum. It’s a shame there isn’t more information about the several hundred years during which Spain was occupied by North Africans. The display was charming and the bath was interesting. The best though was the daughter of the museum’s owners. She was so full of information and very knowledgeable.

The museum is open and worth a visit for the archaeological parts mainly period. But you are not the most interesting part, the Arab. Aljibe or cistern is closed and supposedly for two years. That’s a very good reason to postpone your visit to Caceres after it reopens.
Caspar D — Google review
Great bronze age pieces. Amazing museum for a smaller city. The 6,000 year old carved idol. The Roman and Visigothic pieces.

What a great museum covering a great deal of local and Spanish history. Starting in about 3000bc, you make your way through artefacts from different eras in Caceres and wider Spain (through Roman, Visigoth and Moor times, to 20th century). The building is also a great part of the exhibit, including an cistern under the building. The fine are section has works from Picasso and Miro which is very impressive for the €1,20 entrance fee (or free for citizens of the EU!) The Cathedral of Santa Maria, a 15th-century Gothic masterpiece, is a must-see in Caceres. Inside, visitors can admire the iconic Black Christ statue and climb the bell tower for stunning city views. Surrounding the cathedral, the old quarter reveals historic mansions like Golfines de Abajo and Carvajal, as well as Casa de las Veletas which now houses the Museum of Caceres featuring works by Picasso and Miro.
A bit pricy on the $7 entrance fee. The interior was magnificent! The view on the top of tower was well worth the climb. Would like to show my appreciation to Andrea who was very helpful and friendly.
Tony S — Google review
The cathedral was smaller than we thought. It has features that are very similar to those in Salamanca. The tower ‘views’ are underwhelming since they have installed iron gates that impede you from reaching the wall.
Jose L — Google review
The interiors of this church was quite interesting. But what made it worth paying the entry fee was the view from the tower. Absolutely stunning view on the old town.
Flo — Google review
Small cathedral that punches above its weight. Wonderful Gothic vaults and a unique alter piece. The climb up the tower is worth it for the great views over Caceres. It also features a nice museum with an impressive array of pieces of religious art. Keep an eye on the floor, which contains many grave markers of past church benefactors.
David O — Google review
First Catholic church that I would need to pay to be able to enter. Most cities are now making even museums entry free to attract more tourists. This looks more of a local church, for local people (that have pesetas)

The local cathedral in Cáceres also known as Santa Iglesia Concatedral de Santa Maria was closed when I went to visit (August lunchtime). Nevertheless, the simplicity of its Gothic exterior adorned with gargoyles, was a joy to admire. Construction on the cathedral began in the 13th century and was completed in the 16th.

Located in Caceres, Iglesia de San Francisco Javier is a prominent church with two striking white towers that can be seen from afar. The interior features a unique display of Spain and Catholic Church history on massive timelines. This 18th-century Jesuit church is also known as the Iglesia de la Preciosa Sangre and is considered a significant example of Baroque architecture in Extremadura.
Must visit! Entry was only 1.50 Euro l. Got to see a beautiful church, diorama of the twin and walk up two towers to get spectacular views! I wish more of Spain's attractions were this nice and this reasonable. You'd be crazy nit to go.
David R — Google review
No longer a church but rather the setting for a strange set of displays recording the history of Church and the diocese. In Spanish. No acknowledgement that a high percentage of those entering the building have English as their second language...not Spanish. Some traditional religious artefacts. The building itself has some striking features. One can access a gallery high up above the displays via a spiral staircase The most interesting things in the displays were various representations of the nativity, from many different countries. Not worth even the small sum of 1.5€. Unless you read Spanish and are an enthusiast for diocesan and Church history.

On my way from Lisbon to Madrid, I stopped in Cáceres, and it was a wonderful surprise. This beautiful, romantic medieval walled town, dating back to the 12th century, is full of charm with its historic streets and architecture. With fewer tourists, it offers a glimpse into everyday life, making it a peaceful and authentic escape. Plus, the low entry fees for attractions make exploring this place even more enjoyable.

Amazing views from the tours of this unused church. Very cheap too - only €1.50 entry fee. Would definitely recommend for people to try when you’re in Cáceres! Just a warning the sprial steps up the tower is a little tight so make sure you comfortable with climbing.
Josh M — Google review
This two white towers of this church are an iconic part of the Cáceres skyline. Also when walking around town, it was helpful to look for the towers to help with geographic orientation & navigation (so old school). Recommend climbing the stairs for a closer look. Though built in the 18th century, it was built in Baroque style. Unfortunately it was closed when I was there (August lunchtime).
Nanita — Google review
Didn't enter but it's pretty impressive on the outside. For some reason, it was quite easy getting photos of it without other tourists around - which is pretty awesome. To enter it's 1.50 euros.
Antonio V — Google review
I visited only for the views, which are well worth a €1.50 entry fee, but they only accept cash. I found it proper misleading that the ticket is not an entry fee ('entrada') but actually a DONATION TO THE CHURCH disguised as an entry fee. That information is not available beforehand and you only find out when they hand over the tickets.

In the heart of Caceres, Spain, lies the Palacio de Carvajal, a historic palace dating back to the 15th-16th centuries. Although it was reconstructed after a fire in the 19th century, it remains one of the most iconic landmarks in the old quarter. Visitors are encouraged to explore its charming patio and garden featuring a magnificent fig tree that played a role in the Isabel series.
If only every tourist office has as beautiful a setting as the one in Cacéres! Explore the courtyard and inner garden where you can catch some shade before entering the tourist information office located here. The staff is extremely helpful, informing you what is open and closed (worth considering that there are midday breaks often for several hours so people can escape the heat). Worth stopping in for a visit!

I went to this restaurant last night and I really wished I could’ve stayed an extra day in Cáceres to try more of their food options. The staff greeted us warmly, the service was amazing and the food was absolutely exceptional. Flavorful and the portion size of the tapas were perfect. 10/10 recommend and will definitely return during my next visit.

I arrived here at dinner time there was an empty table I started reading the menu that was on the table from previous customers. The waitress/owner was very friendly and welcoming cleaning the table off, but when she noticed that I had the menu of the day that was tucked into the menu, she snatched it away and said only regular menu is available. It seems like foreigners are not elligible for the menu of the day in the evening but obviously the previous guests were. Stay away.

Located in Plaza Mayor, La Minerva serves up delicious local flavors of Extremadura and of Spain overall. There’s a terrace in the main square with fans for those who want to brave the heat. Otherwise there’s the inside of the restaurant, which is where I sat. I had laminas de pancetta served with dried strawberries and huevo trufado. The food was refreshing and filling on a hot summer day. Highly recommend visiting La Minerva when next in Cáceres

We tried the Tapería part of La Casa del Sol, which doesn’t have any connection to the Michelin star restaurant that is at the very same place. The options we had were all tasty but all of them came cold. We could see our plates waiting on the counter for quite some time before they put it on our table. We left disappointed and wouldn’t go back.

A fantastic dinner for my last night in Extremadura in a modern setting within the old citadel. Great wine by the glass recommendations from the professional waiter for each course, and good explanations of the ingredients of each dish. The amuse bouche was a stunning cream of garlic with crushed almonds. The Torrezno starter was quite fatty but the waiter advised me of this beforehand and said they recommended eating it with the smoked mashed potato each time, which worked. The presa ibérica pork was fantastic, as were the glazed carrots and onions. The chocolate combo dessert was amazing, a mix of 4 different types of chocolate (biscuit, flakes, ice cream and crumble). €60 all in for 3 good courses and 4 glasses of wine.

(Translated by Google) ⭐ Review of El Corral de las Cigüeñas (Cáceres) ⭐ El Corral de las Cigüeñas is one of those charming spots that make Cáceres' old town so special. It's located in the Plazuela de San Pablo, just steps from the Plaza de San Jorge and surrounded by the medieval walls. Its setting is simply beautiful, with cobblestone streets, historic facades, and the sound of the storks that gives it its name. This place has a history closely tied to Cáceres' cultural life: for years it was a hub for live music, theater, and cultural activities. Over time, it has maintained its bohemian and welcoming spirit, serving as a meeting point for locals and visitors looking for more than just a simple terrace. We went this past Sunday and ordered two beers, enjoying the pleasant atmosphere and the background music that was perfectly at ease. It's an ideal place to have a quiet drink, chat, and soak up the atmosphere of the historic center. In short, El Corral de las Cigüeñas is a place with history, charm, and good vibes, perfect for a stop while exploring the heart of Cáceres. 👍 If you liked this review, give it a like.

(Translated by Google) Very unpleasant treatment. They don't care about people, I don't think they're kind or try to be understanding, although they're quick to charge. They don't give you receipts for drinks, and they disrespect the law or people's rights. The cash register, at least at one bar, doesn't print receipts, and at the other, if it does, they don't give them to anyone either. If you ask for them, they give you dirty looks. They say horrible things if you even try to assert your rights. The doorman is the rudest and most unpleasant. Overall, it seems like they're doing you a favor by letting you in or giving you a drink. It's not worth it. We won't go back; there are many more places with nice, considerate people working there.

Visitors can enter under the Arco de Estrella and explore nearby attractions such as Concatedral de Santa Maria and Palacio Golfines de Abajo.
A walk of more than 1 hour from Caceres central square. Quiet and very nice views in the way. In the Sanctuary an amazing view and more silence. The little church and the cave are nice easy to visit, no stairs, and the image of the Virgin is really beautiful. Have to know that close at 1.00 pm and open again at 6 pm. Mike S — Google review
The Sanctuary is located in the Sierra de la Mosca, about 600 m. altitude and with magnificent views over the city.It began to be built in the 17th century dedicated to the Virgen de la Montaña, the city's patron since 1906. The Virgen de la Montaña sanctuary is a religious complex made up of three chapels. The first one was built by Francisco de Paniagua and has the appearance of a small cave of 6.50 by 2.70 meters in surface with a height of two and a half meters. This first chapel began to be built in 1621. The second chapel is the result of the enlargement of the grotto to convert it into a common hermitage and was developed by Sancho de Figueroa in the second half of the 17th century. Finally, the third chapel was built in the first half of the 18th century, expanding the second in depth, as a consequence of the increasing influx of visitors. Due to the fact that the third chapel took advantage of the walls of the second, it is unknown where the boundary was between them, although the most probable is that the second only occupied a little more than the current choir of the hermitage, as described by Ortí Belmonte in 1949. The sanctuary complex is more extensive than the three-chapel building itself. Among other facilities, it has a small square to observe the city built in the late 17th century, an access road to the city built in the late 19th century, a temple whose history dates back to the early 18th century and a monument to the Sacred Heart Jesus' 1926.

(Translated by Google) Sober but beautiful church, located in the center of Caceres, at the gates of the walled enclosure. The Gothic-style church was built during the 13th century, although it underwent major renovations in the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries and was not fully completed until the 18th. In turn, in the mid-twentieth century it was restored, recovering much of its original style. The temple is characterized by having a nave covered with a ribbed vault with terceletes. The apse is covered with pointed pointed vaults. At the same time, the presence of several chapels stands out inside, among which, the most important is the chapel of the relics with its doorway with Plateresque decoration with cherubs and balustraded columns on the sides. The church is located on the outskirts of the walled area and in ancient times it was the point where ranchers and shepherds held their livestock fairs, which created a settlement in its surroundings and led to it being popularly known as San Juan de los Ovejeros. .

(Translated by Google) Leaving Mass... and... like me, many Latinos were awaiting mention of our Saints whom the Holy Father canonized today, October 10th. A beautiful homily, referring especially to prayer. However, these new Saints the Holy Father spoke about today did not stop at prayer; they materialized prayer in tangible works and constant deeds. It is good works that ultimately show us the value of goodness and, ultimately, that will save religion, the world, and present and future societies, where—sadly—"seeing is believing" is increasingly prevalent. Rejoicing!!! For our Saint Joseph Gregorio Hernandez, the "doctor of the poor." (Translated by Google) Some documents place the origin of this temple in the 12th century, although the earliest surviving remains must date much later, to the 14th century. Two centuries later, already in the midst of the Renaissance (16th century), the master Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón undertook its restoration, incorporating constructive and aesthetic elements typical of the period. Some of its most notable aspects date from that period, such as its splendid main chapel and the sacristy. This is a very spacious, single-nave church, with several attached chapels with burial chambers in the area closest to the sanctuary. On the outside, the first thing that strikes one is undoubtedly the unique construction of its enormous, high buttresses with medallions on their fronts, some of which—those closest to the entrance doors—rest on very thick, freestanding columns with fluted shafts, connected to the church by sturdy semicircular arches. There are two entrance doors, facing each other and located near the foot of the church: one opened in the Epistle wall and the other in the Gospel wall. Both open into pointed arches that are displayed on the exterior with archivolts, framed by alfiz arches and beneath large Renaissance coats of arms. Its interior structure is notable for its ribbed vaults, the spacious high choir located at the foot, and its remarkable main chapel, the work of several architects, although its influence is due to Gil de Hontañon, who began its construction in the second half of the 16th century and, due to disagreements with his benefactor, left it unfinished, and the Trujillo architect Sancho Cabrera took over. As for its furnishings, special mention must be made of its artistic and important main altarpiece, made of carved and polychrome wood by Alonso Berruguete, one of the most prominent Spanish Mannerist sculptors. This altarpiece appears mounted on the end wall of the church's apse, which is closed off from the rest of the church by a beautiful Renaissance grille, made in Peñaranda by the ironworker Francisco Núñez in the second half of the 16th century. The altarpiece was commissioned by Berruguete in 1557, making it one of the last by this artist (he died in 1561). A native of Paredes de Nava, he settled in Valladolid, where he left it unfinished at his death. It was completed by his disciples in 1565. It was installed in this church a few years later, in 1570, after a difficult move from Valladolid in which it suffered considerable damage due to rain, which made its final assembly very difficult. The high-relief figures, almost free from the painted backgrounds, stand out, resembling a stage. Arranged in three vertical columns, it features six large spaces in the two upper sections. The central section is dominated by an image of the Virgin and Child surrounded by angels in the upper panel, and by the patron saint of the temple, Saint James, who appears on horseback leading Christian soldiers in the fight against the infidel. Among the other valuable carvings housed in this church, some are worthy of mention, such as the 15th-century carving of Our Lady of the Enlightened, and the Christ of Miracles or Indulgences, from the same century.

(Translated by Google) House of the Becerra (15th century), in Plaza de San Jorge, 2 in Cáceres (Extremadura), adjacent to the church of San Francisco Javier. Prototype of a fort-house with a typical Cáceres façade built between the 2nd and 3rd centuries. XV and XVI; It was rebuilt (1530-43) by the Becerra lineage, originally from Galicia, which passed through other places in León and Castilla until it reached Cáceres in the 19th century. XIV. In 1440, this palace-house belonged to the knight Don Juan de la Torre who gave it to another Don Juan de la Torre - son or grandson, cousin of Commander Gonzalo de Becerra - who years later left it to his nephew Don Álvaro de Paredes -son of Gonzalo Becerra-, although he never lived here and bequeathed it in 1540 to his brother Frey García Becerra -commander of Cubillas de Duero and other places of the order of Saint Juan and son of Don Gonzalo Becerra -, who also did not live there and who founded the estate (1543) in his daughter Doña Leonor de Becerra (Puertomarín, Lugo, c. 1525, where his father who was commander of the place (1521-31) he had with Mrs. Isabel González de Quiroga), who did live in this palace, at that time the twin shields were placed on the façade. Doña Leonor de Becerra married in Cáceres in 1545 with Don Diego de Ulloa Porcallo de Torres (+1573) - lord of the Casa de las Veletas and perpetual ruler of Cáceres and 4th cousin -. Don Luis de Becerra seems to belong to another Cáceres branch of the Becerra, active in the conquest of Mexico, although he spent his last days bedridden, where he died, his relationship with this palace not being clear to me. Facade with access through a semicircular arch door, with large radiating voussoirs, under an architraved window with two coats of arms of identical size with the arms of Becerra, Paredes, Orellana and Ribera, on crossed flags and a knight's helmet; Two Gothic zoomorphic gargoyles finish off the cornice. Renovated (2006) to be the headquarters of the Mercedes Calles and Carlos Ballestero Foundation (2002), according to the transfer of assets of Mrs. Mercedes Calles Martín-Pedrilla (1915-2001) and her husband Mr. Carlos Ballestero Sierra, for development issues socio-cultural, heritage conservation and general interest of the city of Cáceres.

Casa de los Paredes Saavedra y Torre de Sande is a historic complex located in Plaza San Mateo square, featuring houses dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. The palace boasts a Baroque facade with striking pinnacles at the top, while the Torre de Sande stands tall with its impressive Gothic architecture.
(Translated by Google) This House and Tower of Sande is included in a House of Saavedra, belonging today to the Viscounts of Roda, which has its main entrance on Calle de los Condes. It is Gothic, from the 14th century, rebuilt in the 15th century. First of all, you can see the tall Torre de los Sande, which gives the impression of enormous power: • In its middle, on the right, it has a beautiful Gothic window with two arches with a mullion; On the left a simple window with a semicircular arch. • Above, to the right and left, two equal windows, in a semicircular arch with ornaments. • Higher up, the balcony machicolation that is supported by nine large corbels. • To its right, we see a small window in a shoulder arch or lintel. We observe that the roof is placed on top of the tower without any support element in the middle, which indicates that its height was reduced and the battlements were eliminated, in compliance with the “topping” order given by Queen Isabella the Catholic. From the house, partly hidden by an ugly wall, we can see: • A beautiful Gothic window, equal to the one in the middle of the tower. • The cornice supported by stone corbels with vegetal decorations. • Marble shields of Sande (eagle) and Ulloa (chess), belonging to the marriage of Juan de Sande, 2nd. Señor de Valhondo, who lived in the second half of the 15th century, and Teresa Álvarez de Ulloa, who were the authors of the reconstruction of the house, tower and burials of this family in San Mateo (according to the heraldist Pedro Cordero Alvarado, author of the Heraldic Guide of Cáceres, based on the text of the Ulloa Memorial). With Alfonso IX, Pedro Fernández Saavedra came to conquer Cáceres, whose merits were such that the monarch granted him the possession of the town, and he was the first Governor of his Alcázar, a favor that he declined to his son Fernán Pérez de Saavedra, to continue he warring.

Went pretty randomly and without much expectations and it turned to be just absolutely amazing. Photos just totally miss the whole point… You have to visit it live. (Translated by Google) Convent of San Pablo (1492), located at Plaza de San Mateo, 2, Cáceres (Extremadura). A late Gothic convent and church dating from the 15th century. In 1499, it was a beguinage (a gathering place for nuns) presided over by Juana González (Joan of God), which later became a convent. This was followed by a community of the Third Order of Saint Francis. Today, since the mid-20th century, it has been a cloistered convent of the Order of Saint Clare. This monastery church has a Latin cross floor plan. The main entrance is devoid of decoration except for the pointed arched entrance; the double-spanned bell gable is obviously from the 18th century. It has five altars and several altarpieces. The altarpiece, influenced by Churrigueresque influence, depicts the Conversion of Saint Paul—an interesting figurative group. Notable goldsmithing. Chapel of San José (1493), a funeral home where the remains of the promoter of Don Álvaro de Aldana rest. The Monumento a San Pedro de Alcántara is a bronze sculpture located in the Santa Maria Co-Cathedral building, representing the patron saint of Extremadura. His statue is located in a corner of the Santa María Co-Cathedral building. , represents the Patron Saint of Extremadura. Sculpted in bronze, slightly over 2 meters high and located at half height on a granite pedestal. The statue, blessed in 1954, is a self-portrait by the sculptor Enrique Pérez Comendador, which seems tremendously presumptuous on his part. It represents the Saint standing on a book, and holding a cross. Artistically, it is one of the best bronze pieces in the monumental area without being anything spectacular. The clothes are too straight, without any sense of movement. On the other hand, the face is more successful in transmitting a feeling of serenity. The sculpture is made of bronze, but it has golden toes, not because it is a different material but because tourists and devotees kiss the feet as a sign of respect. Visited this unique gallery in October 2023 along with my parents. We really liked the style and, speaking personally, the overall message of the exhibition (be sure to read the author's thoughts on the posters). I recommend visiting if you ever find yourself in Caceres' Old Town.

I came from Australia for holidays and I was visiting Cáceres with my Spanish family. Walking back to the car I saw this amazing place that caught my attention as soon as I started seeing all the beautiful pictures. We were so amazed that we decided to go in to have a better look. The photographer was so nice and welcoming. He explained all of his beautiful collection.I felt so identified and happy to see the perfect mixture between the beauty of Australia nature and the beauty of Spanish places. This is definitely the kind of art and photography able to touch your heart. Thank you !!!

Fernando thank you for your beautiful gallery. We were so happy to find you and talk to you. We love our purchases and cannot wait to put them on the wall. You were very kind to us but we also think you are very clever and sentimental about Australia, but always realistic. We will think of you when we look at the colourful balcony of birds. We hope you come back to Australia even to visit Muchas gracias Tina and John

Artsolutely was a special experience for us as Australians visiting Cáceres. As we passed the store in Plaza Mayor we were amazed to see large prints ....... the merging of classical Spanish icons with Australian animals was spectacular. Even more special was spending time with Fernando and listening to his story. As permanent travellers we could only fit a beautiful post card into our luggage.... Velasquez and the lorikeets. In the future we will ask him to post this artwork to Australia. Thank you Fernando. Sheila and Kath

The Casa Museo Guayasamín de Cáceres is a remarkable museum showcasing significant regional artworks, as well as colonial and pre-Columbian art. It is located in a grand former residence, slightly off the beaten path for tourists in Cáceres, but close to the ruins of the San Francisco Bridge and along the old pilgrim's trail. The ground floor exhibits highlight various arts practiced by local artists from music to photography.
No cost to get in, always a bonus, but I'd have paid 15 euro to enjoy the exhibit. Includes art and history of the region around Caceres (I believe Extremadura) in a beautiful house near the historical neighborhood of the city.

Well worth the trip. A little off the Cáceres tourist trail but near the San Francisco Bridge ruin and on the old pilgrim's trail. Ground floor devoted to exhibits of Cacareño exponents of many arts from music to photography. 1st floor paintings a little dour but an impressive main room with carved wooden ceiling. Top floor takes in Cáceres/Extremadura through the ages - Stone, Bronze, Iron, Roman, etc including the conquistadors and links with the Americas. Also Civil War and post dictatorship autonomy. I felt involved with and informed of Cáceres and its people after a visit here.

After visiting caves in Aquitaine (F) and reading about prehistoric art of this period, a visit to Maltravieso can be highly recommended as an introduction to this topic, as in my opinion it is well presented didactically. Apparently the cave cannot be visited; a chamber has been recreated in the center so that you can get a good impression. Entry free for EU citizens, brochure in Spanish/English/French is available. Saddening how the lot of you have so little respect for your past. Yes, some nations flourished as other civilisations extinguished, if it weren't the Spaniards it would've been the French or the British. (Translated by Google) He was born in the Extremaduran city of Medellín, into a noble family, whose wealth has been the subject of historiographic debate. He decided to seek his fortune in the New World, traveling to Hispaniola and Cuba, where for a short period of time he was mayor of the second city founded by the Spanish during the third expedition to the mainland, which he partially financed. His feud with the governor of Cuba, Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar, caused the trip to be canceled at the last minute, an order that Cortés ignored. Arriving on the continent, Cortés carried out a successful strategy of allying with certain indigenous groups to defeat others. His relationship with a native woman, Doña Marina, who served as his interpreter and with whom he had a son named Martín, was of inestimable help. When the governor of Cuba sent emissaries to arrest Cortés, he confronted them and defeated them, while enlisting the troops that were going to arrest him as reinforcements for his expedition. Cortés sent several letters to King Charles I so that his success in conquest would be recognized instead of being penalized for his mutiny. He was finally granted the title of Marquis of the Valley of Oaxaca, although the more prestigious title of viceroy was given to a high-ranking aristocrat, Antonio de Mendoza y Pacheco. In 1541, Cortés returned to Spain, where he died six years later.
