Ijams Nature Center is part of the 1,000-acre Urban Wilderness in Knoxville, offering a 300-acre wooded area with diverse trails and outdoor activities. Families can explore nature exhibits and enjoy outdoor and indoor play areas for kids. The center hosts events like the Meadow Lark Music Festival and offers history tours, lantern tours, naturalist programs, and the Original Owl Prowl. Urban Wilderness provides 42 miles of natural trails through five parks, neighborhoods, and schools along the waterfront.
I visited Ijams nature Center twice now once on a weekday and once on the weekend and both were pleasant experiences. I’ve hiked down to the Riverwalk and it is a beautiful scene took my dog down and he absolutely loved it. Also hiked up to the other side Where you can zip line. The park is dog friendly and not too busy. The trees gave lots of shades so it wasn’t too hot. But make sure you stretch before you hit the hill. Lots of cool exhibits along the walk and things to read and see. Will definitely recommend this place for a nice casual walk with a challenge to it.

What a beautiful clean , well maintained Nature Center! There is something for all ages and walking levels . Also, there is Meads Quarry , a great swimming hole ! The Center offers many day events and classes. Check the monthly calendar on their website. The staff/employees are fantastic! Very kind and helpful. We just moved to TN and this is our favorite place!

Pay for parking via QR code where signs are everywhere - price is reasonable. We did the river loop trail using our All Trails map as the signage is not the best. Conditions excellent, great shade and enjoyed the two sections of boardwalk.
N F — Google review
First comer, and it was a fantastic time. I did multiple trails, including both the river boardwalk, and the quarry Trace hike. Wish I knew you could go swimming in the quarry; will make sure to do that next time around. Definitely recommend.
Theo E — Google review
Leo and I love coming here to hike and watch the wildlife. We're here at least 3 days a week so the parking pass is definitely worth it 😁 There is always something to see... Beautiful place!
Jordan H — Google review
A beautiful gem hidden away on the outskirts of knoxville! It’s an awesome place to get out to and explore with the family. Places for biking, hiking, walking, swimming etc. they have frog ponds, hiking trails, animal exhibits and much more. There is even a place to let the family walk along the rope climbs and use the zipline
Jonathan E — Google review
Our party of 4 adults took the Beginner Survivalist class (and built an awesome debris shelter) with Kat and Madeline who were both fantastic instructors. We all learned something new with varied levels of outdoor experience and enjoyed meeting new people who also love all things nature. Would highly recommend the classes at Ijams to anyone in the area!

The employees are nice and very helpful.they had arts and craft event going on outside where you make bookmarks from the sun, we took the river trail bordwalk it was a beautiful scenery.A nice little walk on a sunday afternoon. After we got done, we put our feet in the water in the quarry.

Observation Decks & Towers
The Sunsphere, a prominent feature of Knoxville, was constructed for the 1982 World's Fair and stands at 26 stories tall. Its distinctive golden glass sphere offers visitors a chance to take in breathtaking 360-degree views of the city and its surroundings from the observation deck. Renovations are underway to enhance this iconic structure, with plans to open the Welcome Center as part of phase II.
This was a really good place to stop and visit. It's got history, and it's really tall, with great views!! When u walk in the bottom and go to the third floor to deal with your tickets, u get in and they push 4th floor, and your at the top... SURPRISE!! Lol! The park outside has great places to play or relax, with a splash pad for the kids. Check it out, it's worth it.
S S — Google review
Just 10 dollars and incredible views of beautiful Knoxville and the smoky mountains. There are artefacts in the dome from the World’s Fair 1982 which are really nostalgic (for a kid born in the 80s) and the structure is surrounded by a nice park.
Nick J — Google review
Fun day in Knoxville and we had to go up the Sunsphere! We hunted for the hidden Jacko lanterns while in the observation deck. All employees were kind and helpful with any questions. $10 to go up but it goes to preserve this structure too.
Dianna B — Google review
Since there is not a lot to do in downtown Knoxville, we made a stop at the Sunsphere since it is a defining part of the area. The tickets to get to the observation deck were $10 per person which I think is certainly not worth it. I think $5 would be reasonable if they needed to charge something, but honestly they should've just kept it as a free attraction. The views when you get to the top are fine but nothing crazy. Looks like the updated the deck to include more infographics about the 1982 World's Fair and some other information about Knoxville and the surrounding area. Cool spot unique to this area, but not worth the $10.
Maggie T — Google review
Great place to explore the city from up high! 1982 memorabilia everywhere! $10 to get in and 10 minutes until kids are bored so think about your return on that investment but it's fun to experience.
All E — Google review
Although a short tour, the experience is great! You get to see a panoramic view of the city of Chattanooga and learn about the history of the Sunsphere and the World Fair. There are some interesting facts about pop culture during 1982.
Francisco C — Google review
You can see a panoramic of Knoxville. This was built in 1982 for the world's fair. The only other landmark that was built that still stands is the Tennessee theater. It's worth a visit
Anna A — Google review
Great view and not expensive, but hard to find free parking. I probably wouldn't do it again, but it's nice to do it once. Then walk down to Market Square to make it worth it.

Cool local museum! It was in the heart of Knoxville, very close, walkable and navigable! They have arts from local artists and all over the world. The museum is free which is nice. They have some cool concepts about modern arts as well as classic arts! I highly recommend!

I’ve took my kids here for years and they are both all grown up now and we decided to come here on my son’s 23rd birthday and spend some time! It was awesome as usual! beautiful art and staff is all so friendly! Brought back alot of nostalgia from when my kids were little! It’s free to go in and enjoy! They have a little gift shop upstairs that has all kinds of stuff from art to little trinkets for the kids! Something for everyone!

I’m glad to see places like this being free as I believe it helps visitors to get an idea about history and culture of the city. Staff were super kind and friendly, and their shop area is full of handmade items. Parking is also free.

An amazing collection of art !! And it's free !! Easy access parking. Many different styles of art 🎨 to experience. Plus, a Children's area that is fun and vibrant. This is truly a rare gem . A must .
Dee S — Google review
The gallery was very nice inside. However, some of what is considered "art" nowadays looks more like something my grandkids would create with their fingers and condiments from their lunch. I found much of it completely mind-numbing and uninspiring. The one photo I posted was one of maybe three things in the entire gallery worth looking at.
Mike — Google review
The Knoxville Museum of Art was a very enjoyable visit. It is a smaller museum, but absolutely worth the trip even if you are driving from far away. The welcome desk and gift shop staff were very friendly and made the visit even better. The gift shop was excellent, with a wide range of items from local artists as well as well known brands. Parking was easy, and the museum’s location in the city is convenient and beautiful.

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Nestled in Knoxville, Tennessee, Zoo Knoxville spans 53 acres and is home to approximately 800 animals from various parts of the world. Visitors can marvel at elephants, lions, giraffes, chimpanzees, tigers, gorillas, and bears among other creatures. The zoo offers an enriching experience with educational talks by zookeepers and engaging activities for kids such as mini-train rides and carousel adventures.
We arrived a little after opening and were pleasantly surprised to find plenty of parking and very few crowds. It was the perfect time to go — we got to see lots of animals up close without the usual wait or hustle. The zoo is very family-friendly with tons of fun things for kids, including a splash pad, carousel, and interactive areas that kept our little one entertained the entire time. Everything felt clean and well-maintained, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely recommend it for families or anyone looking for a fun day out in Knoxville!
Hello E — Google review
Wonderful experience, despite the dreary weather on the day we came. Animals seem very happy and well cared for. All Zoo staff were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I brought my camera and snagged a few good photos. ❤️ Can't wait to go back!
Miranda H — Google review
One of the best zoos in the area, I volunteered there years ago as a kid and this year returned for the first time in decades. The changes were mindblowingly amazing and gorgeous. I loved seeing the old portion of the zoo turned into a playground and petting zoo. When you go make sure you don’t miss the animal encounters they are breathtaking and informative.
Feisty F — Google review
Very impressed with this zoo. The animals had amazing and large habitats and are very happy and well taken care of. I wish we had gotten in earlier in the day to spend more time there. Also, there are many little cafes to get food or a snack. Just a beautiful zoo!
Lisa H — Google review
Oh wow! We had an amazing experience at Zoo Knoxville! Great zoo, with friendly staff, and neat experiences!! I was able to feed a giraffe, a tortoise, and some budgies all in the same day! (I will be able to die happy now). The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about the animals. The enclosures seemed clean and there were enrichment items for the animals in many of them. Lots of great plaques with information about the animals. 10/10 recommendation from me for a fun experience in Knoxville!
Hailee T — Google review
We had a BLAST exploring the extremely well kept grounds at Knoxville Zoo! The artistic design and clear views of animals had us settle on leaving with a membership. We can’t wait to put into good use and are looking forward on being back for the new immersive experience opening soon! Thanks for making sure family fun days are done up RIGHT, Knoxville Zoo!
Abbie K — Google review
My son and I spent multiple days at the zoo and we did the VIP Rhino Experience, which was absolutely worth the money!, and enjoyed every minute we were there. We had the opportunity to interact with multiple staff that worked at the zoo and had such great conversations with them. We also did the Tortoise Feeding which again was well worth the money and the staff there was so knowledgeable about each of the tortoises from the tiny ones to Tex to those “visiting” while there enclosure is being worked on at their zoo. The staff at the Rhino Experience was not only knowledgeable, but had great personalities, as did the rhinos! Ranger and his brother Mylo were very gracious to let us interact with them and thank you Ranger for letting us pet/ love on you! There was so many great people that we met that were also visiting the zoo and happy to share facts back and forth with my son and I. We hope to be back at some point this year (we are from Florida). Thank you all for making the trip wonderful! We visited on both the weekdays and on Saturday.
Rebecca B — Google review
We planned our trip for the first week of April, probably not the best time to visit. Lots of animals missing and several construction projects ongoing. In my opinion, the zoo could use some upgrades, so the construction is understandable. Altgough more transparency would be nice. It would have been respectable for the website to explain what to expect during this time. This zoo is also lacking many of the bigger animals that you are expecting to see. I am from Indianapolis and the zoo there is truly amazing, maybe my expectations were too high. On a brighter note Ashley was amazing!! She took the time to talk with us about our disappointing experience. She also explained about some of the upgrades and new animals coming. I am excited to see this. Planning a return trip in the fall!

Nestled just a short drive from Holston River Park, the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum spans an impressive 47 acres of lush gardens, vibrant flowerbeds, and historic stone structures. This enchanting destination invites visitors to wander along its scenic walking paths while discovering themed areas like the Kitchen Garden and Children's Discovery Garden.
Best Arboretum! So special & magical !! Many paved and dirt walking paths from easy flat walking to more moderate, some hills. Areas for every level. Accessible. There are secret gardens throughout! Just like a fairy tale. 🧚‍♂️ The original house still stands, built-in 1786. It's a fascinating property. A once huge nursery. Stone walls flow throughout. It's hard to believe one is so close to houses and town, when nestled in this world. One day is not enough for me to cover all the gardens and trails. Oh, and there's a gorgeous bamboo garden you can walk through, like a cave!!
Dee S — Google review
Took a walk with my daughter through the visitors center to get the history of Knoxville Botanical Gardens and Arboretum before following along with the paper guided map tour of their grounds. It's a beautiful relaxing walk! Took about an hour. Be mindful when you visit not to just view the side of the gardens that are in the area on the side of the street where you park. The grounds behind and to the left of the visitor center are beautiful and missed by many. 😞 My mindset of the experience... "Where art meets nature". 😁
Heather ( — Google review
This was a nice surprise. The nature trail was enjoyable. The architecture definitely is a major draw. Some really cool areas to walk through. My kids felt parts reminded them of the abandoned buildings in Jurassic Park but honestly I thought that added to the aesthetic. This definitely isn't a slam-packed nature trail. We did everything possible in about 1 and half hours taking it slowly. That being said, I would recommend checking them out. I will say I do not envy the employees. They clearly do not have a lot of staff which is understandable. My kids also really liked the bamboo Forest. Certainly not something you expect to see in East Tennessee, but it was all around pretty groovy.
Cory B — Google review
I’ve been taking my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter to Story Thyme on Tuesday mornings and she loves it! The children can plant, water and harvest vegetables from a raised bed garden on the grounds. There is usually an activities for them and also fantastically muddy “mud” kitchen with scoops, pans, tins, etc. to fuel their imagination! They also have sprinklers for them to run through to cool off from the heat! Such a wonderful free activity for kids!
June M — Google review
It was hard to find the gardens but once they were found it was a very beautiful experience. Well kept and lots to see. Many of the buildings looked abandon but it added to the ambiance. Stayed for sunset and it was an incredible view.
Jordyn D — Google review
What a great greenspace. Visitor center was warm and welcoming, explaining the history of the house and grounds. Gift shop had many unique items. Walking paths are well maintained and plenty of seating along the way for those needing a rest. Well worth a stop and visit!
D J — Google review
I really enjoyed the bamboo forest and the secret garden. Otherwise, not a lot to see. We enjoyed the UT gardens so much more! They have stunning flowers blooming .
Melanie M — Google review
This is probably the 30th garden area we have visited outside our area. Minor things when the map is not close, things change over time. Garden layout was without and directions just randomly wander around. I enjoyed the warning sign on the path "don't leave anything of value in your vehicle". They have a garden society, many people would love to help improve... just ask.

The Tennessee Theatre, which opened in 1928 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been meticulously restored to its former grandeur. With its stunning Spanish-Moorish design and opulent decor including Czech crystal chandeliers and Italian terrazzo floors, the theater offers a step back in time. It hosts a variety of events such as classical music performances, vintage film screenings, dance shows, and touring Broadway productions.

This place is absolutely gorgeous!! Well maintained and very clean and comfortable. The balcony is the perfect spot for seeing everything. The bathroom on the balcony is always clean. The staff is always friendly and welcoming to help you to your seat. It is a great experience from the time you get there to the time you leave. We have seen several shows there. Diana Krall last year and just three days ago Saint Paul and the broken bones after we got married Saturday we were there for our honeymoon. The atmosphere is amazing! We will be back and I recommend if you get a chance to go Do Not pass it up!!!

I had the privilege of seeing Jay White perform his tribute to Neil Diamond. This guy is fantastic! The show was lively and interactive. Jay got the crowd involved with the music. He gave an excellent impersonation of Neil Diamond. The musicians were highly talented. The theater was beautiful as usual and the employees were outstanding.

The Tennessee Theatre is a jewel box of elegance, its fancy interior and timeless artistry made our visit feel like stepping into a golden age. The staff were nice and attentive, adding to the sense of occasion. This place would transform an anniversary or birthday into a memory worth savoring. World's Fair Park, the site of the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, is now a beloved public space with various attractions. The park features the iconic Sunsphere tower and Tennessee Amphitheater from the fair. Divided into three sections - festival lawn, lake area, and performance lawn - it offers recreational activities and hosts events. Visitors can enjoy cooling off at the Court of Flags Fountains during summer or take leisurely walks along paved paths connecting greenways.
It's a beautiful park with play areas for children. They enjoy the water fountains. There are beautifully landscaped grounds and views of the water. At one end there is a memorial for Veterans. In a different area there is a stage with covered seating for concerts. The grounds in the park are large enough to host festivals.
Marilyn R — Google review
What a gorgeous park! Highly recommend taking the time and exploring! The tower itself was a fun way to see the city from up high. Has a lot of 1982 memorabilia from its opening. $10 to get in. Kids will be bored in 10 minutes so be mindful of that. The outdoor theater must be amazing during a show!

Enjoyed a wonderful time with lady friend. There's a huge lawn area, artistic bridge murals, restrooms nearby and clean, playground area. The Square is easily within walking distance. I recommend going during the summer to enjoy everything the most. I was here today for business purposes and pleasure. I had to shoot some photography and video. The sky was mostly grey. But my photo assistant and I enjoyed the time there and spent a few hours just enjoying the sights and sounds. We loved the walk and plan to go back again this summer just for fun.

A really nice area for the whole family! The Sunsphere decorates the park with its amazing golden globe. The pavilion with the water in front of it is beautiful. The art under the bridge is great. The playground and splash pad por children are great to have your children have fun. And the location is perfect!

First time to kahuna festival. Try some wings from close to 30 vendors. They have activities for kids, but the fireworks WOW!!! Definitely even worth the $12 to see the 15-20 min display. That sold the wife and I we'll be returning for years to come
Mike S — Google review
Even after 43 years, the amphitheater still holds up. The rest of the park is very pleasant, and the water feature is great for the kids. Playing near the legendary Sunsphere is a nice visual treat, too.

This is an interesting area to explore and learn about some of Knoxville's history. They have a nice veteran's memorial down there and some unique buildings. You can get some fantastic views of downtown Knox as well. With that being said, the city could really do some work on their efforts to spruce the place up. The park has a lot of potential, especially the "water feature". But it seems as if the water has been left to become stagnant and collect trash. Maybe it is just because the fountains are off for the winter months. I enjoyed checking it out, but would be somewhat embarrassed to bring out of town visitors.

Such a pretty place to relax or being the kids . The fourth of July event is pretty neat could use more activities for older kids and could use more vendors

Nestled within the vibrant campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, the McClung Museum of Natural History & Culture is a treasure trove for those curious about our planet's past and its diverse cultures. This charming museum showcases an array of exhibits that delve into local geology, ancient Egyptian artifacts, and the rich history of Tennessee's native peoples.
Very fun and informative experience especially since you pay no money to tour. They have multiple exhibitions and even classrooms in the building. Very cool for any History or Culture geek.

Free visit and parking, a fun way to kill 30 minutes and look at some very unique items. I went during the week and got my tickets online in advance. This was a completely free experience and only a hand full of people were there. A few cool things to look at, I would maybe come back when they rotate to another collection.

Pretty small but fairly good museum. The only draw back is that they do have classes in the building.

A lovely place to walk through and enjoy displays of natural and cultural history. Although a small collection, great care has been taken on the research, display, and cultural/scientific significance. I enjoyed the castings provided in context to the exhibit, such as the Venus in the human evolution room. I agree it is important to return culturally significant pieces to their origin if requested. I appreciated the collection mentioning this. Little kids may breeze through these exhibits and it seems more interactive spaces may be coming. I also enjoy being able to interact with exhibits and hope they can achieve that. I noticed and appreciated their "creative space" for children to contribute to the art there. For their size and purpose I think this is a great spot. If you're in the mood to go and learn something, this is a fantastic space.

It's a small but pleasant museum. It's quiet, and there are almost no people, so you can explore the exhibits in peace. The museum is free!

It's ok if you want to get out of the house for an hour or so. Lots of empty spaces. Not much to see, but a good effort. 3 year old wanted to see dinosaurs. After the family making more or of what was there to excite him he was happy. 11 year old found a few thing interesting but overall was just polite about the trip. I like anything history and thought it was just ok. 30 year old male was bored too death, but he's not a history person. We got free parking. Don't know where we would have had to park if we hadn't.
Karla S — Google review
Nice but very small, easy to see in an hour. Great art and artifacts from their collection, fossils, and evolution of humanity displays. All of the displays are too small, this museum could easily double its display space and still have too much hidden. Parking is currently a mess due to construction next to the building.

The staff is super friendly and the museum has so much to offer! It is an integral part of UTK and I love seeing the work that these students do. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn and see different cultures. I would also recommend this for families with children. It is free admission and overall a welcoming and fun experience.

Muse Knoxville is a captivating children's science museum in Knoxville that offers an array of engaging activities for visitors of all ages. The museum features interactive exhibits, hands-on experiences, and a planetarium, providing an immersive journey through the realms of science and creativity. It aims to inspire kids to pursue careers in STEAM fields by offering unique attractions such as an augmented reality sandbox and a makers space with real tools.
Stopped in for a few hours of play at Muse Knoxville on our road trip. They had a great variety of hands-on activities for the kids. The pneumatic tubes are always a family favorite. We also loved their outdoor space so we could soak in some sunshine before we head north. 😆noodle forest for the win The maker space is ultra well stocked. My oldest really liked the earthquake table where he could test his structures. The planetarium runs several shows daily. We were excited they have ASTC reciprocity! After our visit, we used one of the many picnic tables outside for a quick meal. There is also a playground out front that we enjoyed right after the museum closed.

This is a fantastic place to bring your children to learn and play. We have been members for several years now and it’s also a great place to celebrate children’s birthdays. They have a private room for the party and provide great helpers to serve and help wrangle the children. Our helpers were Tyree, Cinneman and Christy and we were very happy to have their help to serve our 40+ children and adults, they were great! The ladies at the front desk are always friendly and ready to welcome us whenever we come by. I highly recommend Muse and their great staff for daily visits as well as special occasions like birthdays.

We’ve been here several times and it’s always fun for my son. It’s $12 to get in, but you could easily stay all day. And there’s some discounted tickets. There’s outside areas too. They have reasonably priced snacks and drinks or bring your own lunch. I’m glad Knoxville has a place like this for kids to enjoy.

We recently hosted our 4-year-old’s birthday party at MUSE Knoxville, and I cannot recommend it highly enough! From start to finish, it was truly the easiest party I’ve ever planned. The staff took care of everything—set-up, clean-up, and helping the kids stay engaged and happy throughout. It was completely stress-free, and as any parent knows, that is priceless when it comes to planning a party for young kids! The pricing was incredibly reasonable, especially considering all that was included. The space was perfect for a group of energetic little ones, with plenty of interactive exhibits and activities to keep them entertained. I loved that I could just show up and actually enjoy the day instead of running around trying to coordinate every detail. A huge thank you to the amazing staff at MUSE Knoxville—you made our daughter’s birthday so special and memorable. We’ll absolutely be back and will be recommending this to all our friends with young kids!

Great place for young kids. We loved the Stellar Game with the tabletop touch screen. We figured out how to make black holes and eventually how to make the universe collapse on itself. Amazing game! Also love the new addition of the train color and scan game. We will be back!

The exhibits are geared towards the younger crowd (ages 3-5 would be perfect for this), but my 7 year old did find many things to hold his interest, and my 1 year old loved the calm sensory exhibit. We also enjoyed the planetarium movie.

We used the Muse for a STEM Night at my school over the past few years! They were so educational and the activities were really engaging. These folks are easy to work with and they work hard for our students. It has been so easy to speak with them and to allow them to accommodate their lessons to us. Nestled in the heart of Knoxville, the Blount Mansion stands as a testament to early American history and political significance. This elegant residence was home to William Blount, the first territorial governor of the Southwest Territory and a signer of the U.S. Constitution. Constructed between 1792 and 1830, it showcases unique architectural features that set it apart from other homes of its time.
Blount Mansion is a fascinating place to visit if you’re interested in Tennessee history! The tour was very informative and gave a great look into how people lived in the late 1700s. It’s a hidden gem right in downtown Knoxville. One tip: call ahead to check the tour times so you don’t end up waiting around—tours are guided and not on a constant rotation. Definitely worth the visit for history lovers!

We visited the Hall of Fame today and really enjoyed it. Much great memorabilia and lots of history covered. My one disappointment was (being an Iowan) that there was next to nothing about Caitlin Clark. Because of all the records she broke as a senior at the University of Iowa (both women’s and men’s) I thought there should have been some recognition for that. Perhaps that will be added but seemed to me it should have already been there if it is truly up to date.

The James White Fort Association offers a glimpse into Knoxville's rich history, showcasing the city's connection to the Civil War and its founder, James White. Visitors can explore the restored 18th-century frontier fort and 'Knoxville's First Home,' a reconstruction of James White's log cabin. The site provides an educational experience, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in 1780s frontier life.
What a great little gem in the middle of Knoxville. Very well maintained and lots of information regarding life in the early years of Tennessee history. As a woodworker, I especially liked the original pieces of furniture they had on display. Definitely worth the time to visit.

James White's Fort is a fantastic place. I felt like I learned many new things about the history of Knoxville and the founding of East Tennessee during my visit. I am a local historian, and I approve thoroughly of how the fort is presented to visitors. They also have integrated modern standards for history telling using QR codes and auto touring systems. I was able to read, hear about, and learn in person all at the same time. All parts of this historic fort are covered, including servants and basic things like outhouse usage and chamber pots. It's very fascinating.

My friend and I spent a fun afternoon at the James White's Fort in Knoxville, Tennessee. There is plenty of free parking at this location. Admission is $10 per person unless you're a senior or military. The employee checking us in asked us many questions to determine what our fees should be. I think he was being either nosy or friendly. He didn't like that the both of us were originally from California. Visitors are allowed to wander on their own and open cabinets in the rooms, just be respectful. My favorite room was the upstairs bedroom. When we exited the Fort, the employee told us about two sets of Californian visitors who got into a fight and I asked did this just happen today? He responded no, this happened like 5 years ago. I am thinking why the heck is he talking about it like it just happened. Had a marvelous time. We spent around 1.5 hours here. Edited for spelling corrections.

It was worth it to see, and the paper your given for you self guided tour is very informative. 10 dollar seems a little high for how long it may take, but worth it for people who will really study and take it all in. We spent about an hour there and looked at everything, and read the given information. I would recommend it for anyone who loves history, but don't expect to take much time there.

James white fort is the site of the first home in Knox County from this land the city of Knoxville was born. It was cool to visit and see how people lived. They give you a paper guide with audio options so you can listen while you walk. A must see if you are a history fan of any sort.

Very educational. To realize this was the first home ever built in Knoxville is amazing. To see how people lived back then and what their amenities were. Stadium
Neyland Stadium, located at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, is a renowned football stadium and a significant part of the university's campus. With a seating capacity exceeding 100,000, it stands as one of the largest college football stadiums in the United States. The stadium features distinctive elements such as a checkerboard design and Shields-Watkins Field, created from dirt removed during construction. Named after legendary coach General Robert Neyland, it holds great historical significance for Volunteer football.
I've been here for multiple Vols games. The stadium is right on campus and within walking distance of the Cumberland Ave strip and downtown Knoxville. I think they do a good job of getting people through the gates quickly, given the seating capacity. There was a small backup for us, but it moved fast. They now serve beer, which is a new change within the last 7-8? years? I'm not sure when that happened, but it's great. They've also updated the bathrooms, from what I can tell, which was sorely needed. The games are fun, of course, especially when UT is winning. The stadium has mostly bleacher seating, which isn't the most comfortable, so don't expect to be lounging in the lap of luxury unless you want to pay a premium for it.
Rob S — Google review
Great place to see a game, especially a night game. Fantastic atmosphere. Allow a few hours before the game to browse the tailgate tents and make your way from the parking areas at a leisurely pace. Another tip is to enter the stadium about an hour prior to the game to avoid the last-minute delays of entering the stadium. The only downside of the stadium itself is the size leaves little room in the aisles and passageways to walk, so you may be shoulder to shoulder with other people. Bathroom lines are a bit long as well. At halftime watch the band. Impressive performances
Michael B — Google review
First time at the stadium for a UT game...wow how amazing it was. Plenty of staff to help find your seat, offsite parking and shuttle was so easy, and the facilities were great. Plenty of restrooms near the seats, food and drink was a breeze and what an atmosphere! Can't wait for the next game!
Robert P — Google review
Good Game Day Atmosphere, But Falling Short on Promises - 3 Stars As a season ticket holder who attends most of the games, I’ve had the same disappointing experience time and time again. Zero Waste Claims: Neyland Stadium claims to be a “Zero Waste Game Day” facility, and I know the University has partnered with Eastman to be their recycling partner. However, I do not feel like the facility does enough to make fans respect the policy. There are too many standard trash cans easily available and not enough well-labeled recycling bins. Most fans are not going to go out of their way to find a recycling bin in the overcrowded corridors when a trash can is readily available along the way. Concessions & Beverage Service: The lines for concessions are outrageously long, even in the middle of a quarter. Missing more than 5 minutes of actual game time to get a beverage or a snack is unacceptable. Their ID policy is unorganized and causes massive delays in the process of trying to purchase an alcoholic beverage. Asking for an ID for every purchase may prevent some underage patrons from gaming the system, but they need to find a better method such as wristbands that can speed up the process. Facilities & Priorities: In my opinion, the University has spent way too much money adding luxury seating and suites while continuing to ignore the need for new bathroom facilities in the areas that the average fan has to use. This past season they took away some of the best modern facilities at the top of sections U & T to cater to large donors, leaving regular folks to use troughs, shoulder to shoulder in a hot cinderblock cave. These inadequate bathrooms are all around the upper deck of the stadium, affecting thousands of fans every game day. The University needs to reconsider its priorities and invest in the experience for all fans, not just the luxury suite holders.

The Tomato Head is a popular American cafe-bakery located in the Market Square area of Knoxville. The cozy dining room features local artwork for sale, and the menu offers a variety of light, hearty, and vegetarian options including sandwiches and pizza made with fresh-baked bread and locally sourced produce. Vegan and gluten-free choices are also available. Customers can customize their own pizzas or try the expert's recommendations, but either way, don't miss out on trying their house-made pesto.
I've been meaning to write a review, as Tomato Head remains my favorite place for lunch in downtown Knoxville. Any time I meet friends, I always suggest this place and that's where we end up going. Last week was no exception when I met up with a girlfriend and we came to Tomato Head for another delicious lunch. I love the variety of vegan and vegetarian dishes available for my friends who don't eat meat. My go to will always be the turkey melt sandwich even though today I also added the squash curry soup to my lunch. Everything was amazing. Our waitress told me that the owner was here today and I expressed a desire to meet her. And lo and behold, she made time to come out and chat with us. Mahasti, I am so glad that you took a chance and opened this place up 35 years ago! You have truly revitalized Market Square and hats off to you for never giving up!!

Visited on April 26, 2025 When we came, we were able to sit immediately. We were at a High Top outside. It was perfect for our group of 6 and dog. Our server was Emma. She was very attentive and friendly. Everyone was really friendly. The menu had plenty of options. I ordered a side ceasar and  the Smoked Salmon pizza with Garlic Oil + pesto base. I added feta and red onion. I did not get a picture, but the salad was okay. I asked for no mushrooms and when the salad came it had a bunch of black olives. I thought that was a little odd. The salad was also very small. Now to the pizza. When I tell you this pizza was absolutely DELICIOUS!!!!! I ordered a second one to go. It was that good!!! It taste so fresh and perfect. I did get a side of ranch. I assume it was made fresh, but it was watery. Wouldn't even stick on my food. Not good. My to go pizza was oddly a lot smaller than the one I had at the restaurant. I ordered a Margarita, but they said they were out of lime, so they made it with Strawberry. It wasn't very good. And it was only half way filled. I think the bartender had the measurements incorrect. Everyone in our party loved their pizza as well. My brother in law also ordered another to go. I would absolutely come back. Oh and they let me use their outlet to charge my phone. Also, I love Market Square. Such a cool vibe. I love the inclusivity of the area.

Love the healthy and flavorful food options. Service was great! Nice patio dining on the square. I had the kepner melt, a greek salad, and the cleanse mocktail. My husband and I each had half the sandwich and shared the salad. We both loved it! Hoping I can recreate it at home since we don't live close by. Waitress was super attentive! Would love to go here more often. It will be a must next time I visit Knoxville.

Our favourite from back in college, Tomato Head is still great. The menu has hardly changed, which I love. Lots of delicious salads, pizzas & sandwiches & a great selection of drinks. This will always be one of my favourite restaurants in Knoxville. So many memories here!
Nida K — Google review
Get the mozzarella instead of the jack cheese... I have visited Tomato head in 3 distinct decades of my life and can say with confidence - I loved this sandwich more than any other item I have purchased from Tomato Head. I purchased the "Oh Boy" and it should be called the "Oh Man" because that sandwich was emotionally stable and in a good spot. It was the Mr. Darcy of Sandwiches, pride in that it was the most superior of all of the sandwiches on the menu. My prejudice is that the chips are just "Oh, okay, sure potatoes" and I could never say "what excellent [fried] potatoes." But in this case, the Mr. Collins of chips made the Mr. Darcy of sandwiches that more enjoyable. Anyway, the move is changing to the fresh mozzarella on the sandwich. I would come back anytime and be glad to get that whole meal again. The nice bit was this meal was also attainable and just the right amount of food! The staff was exceptionally friendly and I will return with the hope I can eat another one of these sandwiches.

We were recommended to eat here by a local. The best sandwich I’ve ever had. They use High quality ingredients and their bread is amazing. The service is top notch, all the employees are so friendly and hospitable. If I lived here I could eat here everyday and not get bored! Ask for Emma as your server, she is great and so kind!

Stopped here on the way thru to Nashville due to the good reviews. We ordered the red pepper Air Head as an appetizer as recommended by our server, Ella. I’d never heard of something like this. Wow! It was blown up and the bread was chewy, light, and tasty! It had just a little bit of spice and marinara for dipping. I would’ve eaten one just for a meal! And the Marinara sauce was so vibrant and flavorful! We also shared the 4 cheese pizza. Omg! The cheeses just blended together so nicely and the hint of EVOO just put it over the top!! And the pizza crust had huge bubbles in it and it was so chewy and delicious!! Even the water was good! No hint of chlorine or any other weirdness you sometimes get with water. Ella was a great waitress! Very nice and helpful. We’ll definitely be back!! What an amazing place!!

The Mabry-Hazen House, a well-preserved home dating back to 1858, offers informative tours that delve into Knoxville's history and showcase a vast collection of over 2,000 artifacts. The house served as headquarters for both Confederate and Union Armies during the Civil War and was home to the Mabry and Hazen families for over 130 years.
Our guide was awesome. We toured the house and learned so much about the Mabry family history. We are so glad we stopped and toured.

Fabulous place for a wedding! Down home and grand at the same time. We pitched a beautiful tent with the sides rolled up to preserve the lovely view of the hills and distant Smokies. We were happy to party outside because the house simply would not accommodate a party for 150 guests! A docent offered tours of the historic house. All enjoyed!!
Joe — Google review
Awesome tour! Our guide was the director as the regular tour guide was unavailable. He was clearly passionate and very knowledgeable, and had great energy. Felt very personal and definitely outside of what you can learn and experience just by reading about a place/person. Definitely recommend stopping by. I can't wait to visit one of their after hour events and shows!
Gabriella G — Google review
My husband & I had a tour with Josh and he was so knowledgeable. We enjoyed not only the house but all of the stories of the residents who lived there. It was great and we would definitely recommend.
Shari H — Google review
The tour was very enjoyable. The docent did a great job explaining the soap opera like history of the original owner which included a "wild west" type of gun battle. The extra bonus was the extensive Christmas Decorations in the home.
Elizabeth S — Google review
WHAT AN EXPERIENCE 😊 .... If you love HISTORY then this is a not so hidden but overlooked tourist attraction. Hard to say those words when the Mabry-Hazen family were slave owners. This known fact is the reason why many Black Knoxvillians have never made it a priority to "scratch the itch of curiosity" for the house that sits on a hill off Dandridge Ave. Plus I'm NOT PAYING to visit an estate that made its livelihood off of human trafficking of Black Americans. However, the new Executive Director has made it his mission to tell THE COMPLETE HISTORY of the Mabry-Hazen legacy. I was able to fully appreciate the special Juneteenth Celebration Tour that took place 6/19/2023. This tour was free, hence me taking the opportunity to relieve my curiosity about the house on the hill. This is an older historic home so it's really not accessible for those with mobility deficiencies. The tour consists of ambulating up and down stairs to key places in the home. This can be quite difficult because this is an older structure therefore the steps are not like modern day accessible ones.

Market Square is a vibrant area in Knoxville, conveniently located near the Old City and 100-Block. It's a great place to explore on foot, with various dining options like Stock & Barrel and Emilia. The square also features a play fountain that's perfect for kids on hot summer days. Additionally, there are luxurious urban residences nearby with stunning views of the cityscape and modern amenities such as individual balconies and spacious bedrooms.
Visited April 26, 2025 I have been to Knoxville a few times, but never been to Market Square. It is really a cool vibe. We enjoyed it very much. There are plenty of restaurant options. Everyone was very kind. I will definitely come back when we visit again.

09/11/2025. I took us stroll through Market Square today, around 1:30 p.m. The street was bustling with pedestrians. There are many restaurants and bars on this pedestrian path. Some are decorated beautifully and others are more casual. It's a great place to go, relax and then joy people watching. October 2024. Market Square was lit up tonight in beautiful lights, with ghosts hanging from the trees. There are so many places to visit and things to do in this lovely area. Even just walking down the street is fun. It's a beautiful location!

Basically just a bar/pub district. Yes there are some restaurants, but most are just bars that sell enough food to keep their license. I imagine the area is packed on a football weekend, or maybe just any evening. On a Monday afternoon there were more homeless people than I would care to count. I’ve now seen the area and have no interest in revisiting.

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the 1,000-acre recreation area, which includes opportunities for kayaking, swimming, and hiking. absolutely beautiful area, lovely lake and perfect temps (mid july right now) for swimming. We enjoyed the view and had a light lunch on the floating platforms.

Pretty cool place. Big boardwalk to sit on and relax. They have trails that allow you to walk around the quarry as well. Parking lot has plenty of parking and there is a decent snack bar

Spectacular, refreshing and free! Swim at your own risk. No lifeguards so bring your floaties. There are 3 parking lots to use but it fills up fast. Dogs need to be on a leash unless swimming. There are walkways or decks that float on the water. A small sandy beach and shore for kiddos. Water shoes aren't necessary unless you can't walk on small rocks. They have restrooms but no showers. Beautiful nature trails. Family friendly. Oh and did I mention it's FREE! Open dawn to dusk. Enjoy.

It is a great spot to hangout for a fun summer day. However, it isn’t the most family friendly place on the weekend. During the week it’s fine! On the weekend it was just a wild crowd. People smoking everywhere and people having little to much to drink

This is a fun, free place to swim, paddleboard, or kayak. There are no lifeguards and it is a quarry with steep drop offs, so swim at your own risk. We brought our own life jackets for the kids. There is a floating boarwalk with ladders to get in if you don't want to jump. There are bathrooms by the gravel parking lot, which is just a short walk to the quarry.

Great swimming hole. And free! Hardly any beach but has a ring of floating docks where you can sit. Includes a shallow area, but the most fun is jumping off the docks into the deep quarry water. Water was murky with a slight smell; I recommend water shoes and goggles, and showering afterwards. Popular place. There and parking lots on both sides of the street. Would visit again.

Nestled in the vibrant Market Square, Stock & Barrel is a must-visit for burger enthusiasts and bourbon lovers alike. This stylish eatery has carved out a niche in Knoxville's culinary landscape by offering burgers crafted from thoughtfully sourced ingredients. The beef comes from Mitchell Family Farms, while their breads are baked fresh at Flour Head Bakery and cheeses are supplied by Sweetwater Valley Farm.
My food was so good, I couldn't stop eating long enough to take a picture before I finished my plate! Best burger ever! Fries are excellent! Love the atmosphere. If you want a great burger, come to this place! They have a couple of traditional burgers but also some very interesting combinations that I can't wait to try the next time I'm in town

Great place if you are looking for burgers. They offer all different types of combos from traditional with cheese to egg or peanut butter toppings. The fries were great and the burger was cooked to order and was delicious. I tried the fried feta as an appetizer and it was good. Order if looking for a shareable . The tomato salad was refreshing and reminded me of a Greek salad. Our server was very friendly, knowledgeable and was very attentive to our table.

Busy place on game day, we got seated pretty quickly. We sat outside which was pleasant and great for people watching. We both ordered the Mother Clucker sandwich (Fried in a Buttermilk batter, Havarti cheese, Garlic Aioli, Bourbon Glaze Onions and topped with Tomato and Greens. OMG delicious. I ask for some Honey Mustard and got a Honey Dijon Vinaigrette. It was absolutely amazing, best sandwich ever! I recommend getting the split order of fries and onion rings because it’s more than you can eat. Ethan was our server and he was fantastic. Don’t go by the picture I posted. Give us the backside of my wife’s sandwich, which was grilled. My fried sandwich was huge. We will definitely go back.

We loved our visit here! My wife had the salmon burger, and I had the 'merican burger! Phenomenal burgers!! They were simply outstanding! Our waiter was awesome as well! He checked on us frequently, and gave us refills as needed. The burgers were not cheap, but they were worth it. The fries and onion rings were also absolutely delicious!! I'm not sure if I can recall onion rings that good. Definitely a "must revisit" for us!

A solid little burger joint in Market Square. Not nearly as good as the hype that it has received. Went on a Sunday at lunch and was seated immediately. The restaurant itself is nothing special, kind of plain and honestly kind of small. Our food was good with no complaints. Service was great. I wouldn’t say it’s the best burger in town by any means, but worth a try if you’re interested.
Sam T — Google review
I got the Bernie. It was good but the blue cheese didn't work for me personally. The onion rings were the best I've ever had. I also ordered the Darrel strawberry bourbon cocktail. It was pretty good. My son got the bison burger, my daughter got the free bird, and her fiancé got chicken and waffles. They all loved theirs. The duck fat fries were awesome too.
Kerri M — Google review
Burger size portions were enough to share. Old Fashioned was a nice fit for a burger. 100s of burning to select and a variety of burgers for any dietary preference. You can even upgrade your burger meat selection to bison or change to gluten-free bun.

Stock & Barrel is an absolute gem! The food was outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and clearly crafted with care. Really is the best burger around! It’s definitely worth the wait to eat or drink here.

Ice cream shop
Cruze Farm Ice Cream in Downtown Knoxville is a vibrant red-and-white shop that offers freshly-churned soft serve ice cream, espresso, and hot chocolate. During the holiday season, the shop features a variety of festive flavors such as Candy Cane ice cream, Peppermint Bark Shake, Peppermint Hot Chocolate, and more. The menu changes daily with an array of flavors and toppings to choose from.
Mid afternoon and a line out the front door. I’d guess 40 people in line waiting to order. We decided that line itself is an indicator to give it a try! Absolutely worth it! Line moves swiftly with very nice and patient staff! The ice cream is obviously good, wide variety of options and combinations.
Terrence R — Google review
Cruze Farm Ice Cream in downtown Knoxville made for a fun stop after dinner with friends on a warm evening. The place has a nostalgic soda fountain feel to it—right down to the red-and-white branding, and the staff dressed like they time-traveled from a 1950s milk bar, which honestly added to the charm. I went for the Cookies N Cream Churn, and it hit the spot—creamy, rich, and topped with a generous handful of crushed cookies (as you can see in my photo). Between the group, we tried a bit of everything: root beer floats, strawberry milkshake, sweet cream, vegan vanilla… not a single complaint in the bunch. Everyone seemed pretty happy with their choices, and it was the kind of place where the mood lifted as soon as we walked in. The only knock—and it's a small one—is that the layout gets cramped fast. Once the line grows (and it did), the space fills up quickly, and it can be hard to figure out where to wait or stand without getting in someone's way. Still, it’s clearly a local favorite for a reason. I’d definitely swing back by if I’m in Knoxville again, especially after a long day of walking. Worth a detour for anyone craving a sweet treat downtown.

Sooooo good! The best ice cream you will ever try! It is a little busy and we had to wait outside in a line probably because it was a Saturday night but other than that 10/10 the staff is super friendly and service is very quick, the ice creamer is the best, definitely worth trying it out.

Stop in with the family on Sunday for a treat after having brunch at Market Square. The sweet cream milkshake is hands down the best I've ever had. It's $7.49 for a shake but worth every damn penny. It's sweet rich and decadent creamy goodness in a cup. You will not be disappointed. It's so good I've never had anything else from there. The wife raves about the cookies and cream though. If you have kids this is a must stop. You get 45 min. of peace while they are woofing down this ice cream. That alone is worth the cost of admission. Can't recommend Cruze Farm enough! They stand alone at the top of the ice cream mountain. Take the climb and plant your flag in a sweet cream milkshake.

Scenic Railroads
Embark on a delightful adventure with the Three Rivers Rambler, a charming steam train journey that whisks you away from Downtown Knoxville along an 11-mile scenic route. This unique experience not only showcases the stunning landscapes of Tennessee but also offers glimpses into the region's rich history. As you travel, you'll pass by significant landmarks such as Knoxville's first settlement area and various rock quarries that played a role in building America's capital.
Took the train yesterday (Saturday) with my family. This was the most difficult part of the day because Google Maps doesn't bring you even remotely close. It's just luck that we drove down there and found it. This is why you always leave early. From this point on it was the best day ever. Plenty of parking close to the station. Check in was a breeze in a beutiful little depot. We boarded and took seats right behind the engine. A very comfortable car with heat and decorated for Christmas. The nostalgia of these old cars is really nice. The views all along the river were phenomenal. So many people were set up everywhere filming the train. My daughters loved waiving to everyone. We stopped for story time and the girls enjoyed that very much. Once we got underway again Santa made his way through the cars. He spent a great deal of time with all the kids. They also got a jingle bell necklace from him. Santa provided photo opportunities with all the kids. My daughters absolutely loved it. We began to return to the station at this point. Steam takes you out and diesel takes you back. The return trip is a bit quicker because of this. During the trip the kids got necklaces, ginger bread cookies, and Christmas tree ornaments project. They have a snack car with free hot chocolate and coffee. You can buy reasonably priced snacks as well. There is also a souvenir shop and restrooms. The staff are exceptional and very friendly. Everyone was so nice and attentive with all the kids on board. This was a phenomenal experience. Money is tight for middle class families. The memories we made this day were priceless. I can't recommend this experience enough. Christmas is a special time of year and we created a life long memory with our girls on the Three Rivers Rambler.

The experience was amazing! My husband and I celebrate our birthdays in December, and found a fun way this year to celebrate! The staff were very helpful and friendly, including a volunteer named Gabe, who went out of his way to make our experience special by finding us with a snowman ornament! Thank you so much and we will be back!
Jennifer B — Google review
Absolutely loved it and would definitely go again! The kids were thoroughly enchanted and so we're the adults! After the story time when they released the "snow" it made it even more magical!
Lisa C — Google review
My boys enjoyed the train ride so much! We really liked that you could play with the toy train set on the trip. We did the Christmas Lantern Express so the train cars were lighted up nicely and we got to see Santa and hear a Christmas story. We drank several cups of the complimentary hot cocoa which was described as "very chocolatey" by my 7 year old. My son is already asking when we can go again.
Abbie G — Google review
Great Christmas train and absolutely recommend. Nice comfy themed coaches with a special reading session. Free hot chocolate and gift options and light concessions available. Photo opportunities galore. Lots of kiddos wear their PJs. Make sure to take time at night to grab pics of the train lit up.

A fun family tradition! We have enjoyed the Christmas train ride twice now. I recommend the evening ride for a better ambiance, but any time is fun for kids. The ride is comfortable and we love the decorations of the cars. A great way to get into the holiday spirit!

The Three Rivers Rambler is a train ride in Knoxville, TN that boards near Neyland Stadium at the University of Tennessee. The ride we went on was a Polar Express type attraction near Christmas that included a visit from Santa and lots of hot chocolate! The look on my child's face when she accidentally ran into Santa on one of the train cars was priceless! You can move freely from one rail car to the next and there are also open rail cars so you can stand outside during the train ride. It was a lot of fun!

Nestled in the heart of Knoxville, TN, Peter Kern Library is a sophisticated speakeasy-style bar located at the back of the Oliver Hotel. The city has recently experienced a cultural renaissance, embracing its local artists and rich history while offering creative food and drinks. This unique lounge transports visitors to another time with its beauty and mystery, making it stand out among Knoxville's best bars.
Full disclosure, we did not try the food here. This speakeasy is pretty dope. The sliding door of the wall of art and the entrance is pretty neat. The cocktails were very unique and delicious along with a great whiskey selection. The staff was very nice and attentive and the decor of the place is very unique and cool. The place is very lively but not too noisy.

This is a fun speakeasy with great craft cocktails.. I enjoyed the Aslan: 1950, plus they have an extended list of great slippers to try. The staff was very friendly and fun. Put this on your list when in Knoxville Downtown.
John S — Google review
Overall, the experience was pleasant, though I don’t quite share the enthusiasm surrounding this location. The concept—receiving a code and finding the red light in an alley—sets an exciting tone. I had looked forward to knocking for entry, but the door was unmanned and already open, which diminished the intrigue slightly. The hostess was polite and seated us promptly. The atmosphere was warm, casual, and true to a speakeasy, with closely shared booth seating. The drink menu was thoughtfully curated, offering a wide range of unique options. Unfortunately, service fell short. We intended to enjoy a few rounds before our reservation at Vida but managed only one due to a long wait. Despite available tables, our server avoided eye contact and was slow to return. When she did, service was polite but lacked attentiveness. The cocktails themselves were expertly made and enjoyable. While our visit was underwhelming, I’d consider returning for a second chance.

What a great little find in the heart of Knoxville market district. Amazing drinks with a great atmosphere. Comfortable seating, friendly service that is knowledgeable about whiskey. We had a wonderful old fashioned with Forbidden whiskey which was smooth and full of Smokey orange flavor. Must place for a cocktail while in Knoxville
Denise C — Google review
We found this spot and were super excited about the speakeasy vibe. When arriving, we waited in the lobby area for about 5 minutes before someone arrived and let us into the actual bar. We had the code ready and everything, although they did not really use it and just let us through which killed the vibe a bit. Overall though, the ambiance and drinks were both amazing! The service was great as well and our waiter was super sweet and gave us recommendations.

I have been to the library years ago. But it has been a while. Planned on taking a friend there on Saturday night. My daughter said The last few times she had gone, it was not very good. But I took a chance. Bad choice. The bartender was unbelievably rude and the drinks were not good at all. Especially for $20 each. Will definitely not be going there or recommending anybody to go there from now on.

Navitat Knoxville is a family-friendly adventure park nestled in the woods, offering an array of trails featuring zip lines and climbing challenges. The Navitat Canopy Experience presents six different courses with varying levels of difficulty, catering to both beginners and advanced participants. Visitors can also enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Tennessee River before embarking on the thrilling high ropes challenge. Additionally, nearby Meads Quarry provides opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding.
It was an awesome experience for the three of us. Both I and my wife, and the 8 yr old daughter, loved the zip lines and challenging courses. We tried beginner 1&2, moderate blue and yellow. I think beginner 2 and moderate blue have the most fun zip line rides. Definitely recommend to everybody that’s not afraid of heights. The staff are greatly helpful and patient too. 👍👍👍👍👍😁😁😁🙂🙂🙂

One of the many highlights of our trip to Knoxville. The staff is so helpful and friendly. The course is beautiful and challenging but easy to navigate and so fun. My 72 year old mom even did it! Highly recommend ❤️

An absolute must do in Knoxville! Great variety in courses and levels, incredibly kind and attentive staff, and the perfect cadence of active and enjoyable. This is a great activity for a couple, group or family! Highly recommend Navitat for anyone seeking a little adventure and adrenaline in Knox. Can’t wait to go back! Be prepped to pay a small fee for parking (goes towards the Ijams park) and grab some cash to tip your guide!

“I feel like you’re only here for the zipline” I love this place! I had so much fun. The staff were amazing and so friendly. The courses were perfectly hard. The hardest one has some weird obstacles at the end- ladders/steps you have to crawl up, my arms were too short to reach them once my harness pulled taut. It was a sight to see 😂 Probably going to come back.
Blair W — Google review
Went here for our anniversary and it was super fun, challenging and tested my fear of heights. The zip lines were fun and the drop was also great! After the first course, the second rope course felt a lot easier as I got more confident. Great, friendly staff. Great experience

We had the BEST time at Navitat Knoxville! From start to finish, the experience was so much fun. The crew members truly made it great. They were beyond amazing, so helpful, patient, and incredibly sweet. We went as a group for a birthday party, and the staff made sure everyone felt comfortable and confident. I absolutely loved it and will 100% be back.

Had a blast! My mom and I went together. They have six courses. Two beginner, two moderate, and two advanced. I did the two beginner and two moderate. The crew were super helpful when needed! I attempted one of the advanced but got stuck and one of the employees helped me back and I did the second moderate one! Which I did get stuck on and needed some help but I did complete that one. If you are looking for fun climbing experience I highly recommend. If you are looking for just ziplines then I wouldn't recommend. My Mom really liked the fish course it has a lot of ziplines in it and is really fun.

I planned an entire weekend of events for our anniversary, e.g., food tour, live stand up comedy at the Tennessee theater, etc. The Navitat Ropes course was the shining crown jewel of every single aspect of our trip! Steve is THE MAN, and everyone else had our back as well. We haven't had this much fun in a long time. The beginning trails are great (and mildly challenging) for most everyone. The intermediate and difficult trails will test your metal. Did I mention that Steve is THE MAN?!

The East Tennessee History Center, situated across from the Tennessee Theater, offers a captivating journey through centuries of Tennessee history. The museum's extensive collection showcases over 13,000 items crafted or utilized in the region. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits and listen to firsthand narratives depicting life in historic East Tennessee. Additionally, the center hosts special events, lectures, and workshops providing insights into the area's compelling history.
Such a well put-together museum that captures the exciting history of the region throughout its various eras. Special collection of literature is wonderful as well.

Good overall displays and commentary on the history of East Tennessee. The "play area" was great for a 1.5 year old and I'm sure other younger age groups. Some displays were empty due to maintenance or updating as this is likely a slow season. Some description of artifacts didn't seem to align with the artifacts directly above them. Out of town family enjoyed the self tour and was overall a good experience. The staff is friendly and informative.

A very interesting museum which explains the development of Tennessee and Knoxville in particular from settlement to the current day. We enjoyed this narrative but what really sets it apart from other museums we've been is the level of detail accompanying each exhibit. We spent hours reading it all. Superb.

ETHC is a staple of Knoxville. They hold history and archival materials in one location. Whether you are a tourist or a local, you’ve got to check it out. Their museum rivals Smithsonian-level quality and they even have a portion that rotates with a theme. ETHC often holds public workshops, teacher workshops, and local historical meetings for non-profits. It has an excellent gift shop if you’re looking for unique gifts from the region. Stop by to see this regional and local treasure! You won’t regret it.

Knoxville Food Tours offer a unique way to explore the culinary and historical delights of Knoxville. Whether you're a local or a tourist, these tours take you on a journey through small eateries, specialty shops, and historic landmarks with intriguing stories. You can opt for walking tours in downtown Knoxville at your preferred time or choose a driving tour of the Bearden District if walking isn't your preference.
(Sorry food pics posted last!) Phenomenal!!! We had an excellent time. Paula really knows Knoxville, from history to local lore. All of the restaurants we visited were delicious. Finding the group was easy, Paula gives clear instructions. Walk was an easy pace. We had a wide age range on our tour and everyone was comfortable. Paula was very attentive and entertaining. I've been on several food tours and this is by far the best I've ever been on. We were all stuffed! We visited 4 restaurants and Kilwins chocolate. If you'd like to purchase alcoholic beverages or extra food getting a separate bill was no problem. Paula is a fount of Knoxville knowledge. I would highly recommend.

Paula was an excellent and informative guide. Although it was graduation weekend, our party of 4 still enjoyed wonderful food with no wait! Her knowledge of Knoxville history was impressive and was expertly woven in to the food tour. Having been on other food tours, I was shocked by the full portions we were served along the way. Highly recommend this walking tour. We also received some excellent deals along the way.

Paula was an awesome food tour guide! We met for the tour in the Mast General Store and ended there. She knew the good spots to eat and she was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Knoxsville. The places we stopped were Chivo Taqueria, Proper Popcorn, Oliver Royale, Eddie's health shoppe, Spice & Tea Exchange and the Phoenix Fountain. At Chivo's we were served a pork taco, and Barbacoa beef brisket nachos. At Proper Popcorn we were treated to alot of different flavored popcorn. We bought the Sea salt Carmel popcorn. At the Oliver Royale we were served some tasty buttermilk biscuits and fried chicken with corn flake crust, gouda cheese grits, gravy, egg over easy and hot sauce to taste. Eddie's health shop we were given a goodie bag and "healthy zenevo chocolate". The Spice and Tea Exchange had so many choices of teas and sugars. I bought cinnamon and dandelion teas. The Phoenix Fountain did not disappoint with the Hot fudge sundae I ordered. Other people in my group ordered the Rootbeer Float and 1 person ordered the Christmas Cookie Sundae. The tour took a little over 3 hours, and it was worth every penny. Also, today in downtown Knoxville, there was a Tennessee Volunteer football game and the fans were all dressed in Orange, that was awesome to witness. Also, there was a farmers market in the square and that was amazing. All in all I would definitely encourage you to book the Knoxsville Food Tour.

We had great fun with Paula our guide. She kindly accommodated our dietary requirements of no red meat! We enjoyed all the variety of food especially the Mexican with nachos and fried avocado tacos and the old Pharmacy where we enjoyed ice cream! Would highly recommend this tour as you learn a bit of the history and culture of Knoxville as well! It was a nice size group!
Cally G — Google review
The restaurants and food that Paul chose were excellent! There was plenty of food at each location - wonderful portion sizes for our group - we were surprised at the amount of food at each location. Paula did a great job including the history of downtown Knoxville along with the history relating to restaurants of food.

Paula is an amazing food tour guide! I let her know we were coming to Knoxville with our 3 kids and probably needed a scaled back tour but we definitely wanted to do it. She planned it perfectly and made sure to accommodate the kids. She had nice restaurants with some fun in between to keep them entertained. The menu she set up was fantastic and her knowledge is unmatched. Thanks for a great tour!

The University of Tennessee, established in 1794, is a prominent research university situated along the Tennessee River. The campus is not only known for its academic excellence but also for its renowned sports program. Visitors can explore the university's rich history and impressive architecture by taking a leisurely walk through the sprawling campus, featuring iconic buildings like Ayres Hall and Hodges Library.
Gorgeous. But aggressive parking authority so had to do a driving tour. Watched them slap on a tire boot w the lady coming. So caution. I loved the buildings and checkerboard designs on the clock. Lots of tall brick and trees. Love Smokey too! Again NO PUBLIC PARKING. Said Publix is the closest. Check out the rock and pet the statue dogs.

Just watched the reaction to TPUSA visiting your campus. I would be so embarrassed if I was a student or alumni after that display. After looking at the test scores that you allow for acceptance, I understand why you allow improper behavior. Everyone in my family has gone to The Ohio State University with my grandparents in 1919. That kind of behavior isn't allowed and would be punished. I'm almost embarrassed for you.

8.26.23 I only visited the campus 2 times, just walked around, shopped at both book stores etc. Parking both times was just miserable as all parking garages were full. The campus was very clean. The shrines to Pat Summit were all over the campus. I heard going to a football game here is an amazing experience.

UT Gardens are spectacular! Enjoy a private walk through their shaded tails, or a brisk jog along the riverside. There is something for everyone. There is even an interactive Children's Garden! With plenty of places to rest, either benchs or tables, it makes a wonderful place to sit and enjoy lunch. Take your family, take your friends, or just take yourself for a little alone time to unwind. It is well worth it!

Balter Beerworks is a trendy taproom located in Knoxville, which offers a spacious backyard and serves up Mexican and Southern-inspired cuisine alongside a variety of draft beers. The brewery was established by a group of friends who initially started brewing in a garage before transforming an old gas station into the stylish restaurant and brewery it is today. Brewmaster Will Rutemeyer curates a diverse selection of beers with no flagship styles, ensuring patrons can always expect something new alongside their favorite brews.
what a great craft beer find in Knoxville! we were staying downtown, so it was only about a 10 minute walk up Henley Street to this place. Great vibe, very very friendly staff. We sat at the bar where Emma, Kaylee and Lexi took great care of us. The beer is top notch, I also tried their Mojito with house-pressed sugarcane juice, which was fantastic. The food didn’t disappoint either, loved the tuna avocado dip, the chicken sliders, and the smash-style burger. Loved this place so much we went back the next day. Some of the best food and beer we had while we were in Knoxville.
Ray G — Google review
Seated quickly, waitress was friendly and quick to our table with drinks, food came out hot and fresh, salad lettuce was cold and crisp. Wonderful meal on the patio. Beautiful atmosphere in downtown Knoxville. Only complaint is the meat in the lettuce wraps was questionable. It looked like all the gross pieces I take out of chicken when I shred it at home. However, flavor was excellent. Regardless, I would eat here if we ever have the chance to visit Knoxville again. I also felt it was very reasonably priced for the portion sizes.
K T — Google review
The food and beer here were excellent, with a great variety to choose from. Loved the potato nacho. Was very crispy and tasty. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for quality food, drinks, and warm service.
Nathasha N — Google review
After a 9-hour drive, all I wanted was a solid meal and a cold beer. Like Johnny on the Spot, Balter Beerworks delivered. The atmosphere was exactly what I needed—your classic bar setup with high tops, tables, and a slight industrial vibe. It was too hot to sit outside during our visit, but they’ve got a great-looking patio I’ll definitely be back for when the weather cools down. I started with the Sunsphere wheat beer—yuuuum. Light and crisp with a bold citrus finish. If you're into wheat beers, this one hits. So good I ordered a second without hesitation. For food, we went with the Ranchero Chicken and the Brewhouse Burger. Both were full of flavor and cooked perfectly—no corners cut. We’d happily order them again, though with so many tempting options on the menu, we’ll likely branch out next time. I don’t hand out 5-star reviews often—especially not for bar-style spots—but if I did, Balter Beerworks would be right up there. Check it out, and thank me later.

I really wish I could accurately describe how amazing our experience here was. I looked up brunch in Knoxville and saw a travel blogger write about this place. She said the only thing better than their food was their service and I couldn’t agree more. From the moment Chris walked up to our table, it was like talking to a friend. He never once made us feel rushed and engaged in conversation like we were his only table. Everything we ordered was amazing. Avocado toast bites, fish tacos, breakfast burrito, Benedict, chicken and waffles, Bloody Mary, and Beermosa. We had the greatest experience here and look forward to going back in the future!
Jamie S — Google review
Balter Beerworks has urban industrial aesthetics with warm neighborhood vibes. The space is inviting and social. The foods was yummy and the service great. The burger left a memorable impression; one that stands out is the Brewhouse Burger. Plus, the home-made beers were really good!

Boyfriend and I came here for a little anniversary dinner, had never tried it before but was very excited. We ordered a pretzel as an appetizer and it was delicious, finished the whole thing in 10 minutes! Only downside was queso was 4 dollars and was not told it was an upcharge. We then got our food a short while after, as well as two beers. Best burger I've had in a long time, and the mac and cheese was so yummy I scraped the bowl clean. My boyfriend loved his fish tacos too! Would definitely go again!
Kaylee C — Google review
Very open and unique atmosphere. They definitely focus on an open and airy setting, keeping the "garage doors" open if possible and wonderful heaters on the patios. Just as unique as the atmosphere, so is the menu. The food was very tasty as we sampled "potato chip" nachos, ancho chicken quesadillas, harissa chicken bowl and a burrito bowl. Sampled a couple different beers, which were light and refreshing (at $6.50). Everyone enjoyed their dinner selection. The service was slow in starting and sometimes delinquent with drink refills, but when provided it was cordial and friendly. The free parking area adjacent to the restaurant is very small (20 cars?) and parking across the street is "paid parking." Overall an enjoyable meal, but there are other more convenient restaurants that offer more flavorful food, although maybe housed in a more traditional setting.

Definitely worth stopping in here if you're exploring downtown Knoxville! They had a small gift shop with a variety of souvenirs, lots of brochures to check out, a map that you can pin where you're visiting from, and they had a small stage where local artists perform. When we stopped in someone was performing and there were a couple people who were sitting there enjoying the music. Looks like the local radio station uses it which I think is a cool use of the space!

Historic Ramsey House, also known as Swan Pond, is a significant landmark in Knoxville with a rich history dating back to 1797. This historic site is renowned for its rare construction using Tennessee marble, believed to be the first of its kind. Originally the residence of Francis Alexander Ramsey and his accomplished sons, it holds great historical importance. Visitors can explore this site individually or purchase a PastPort for access to multiple historic locations in the area.
Kudos to our tour guide Jan! We thoroughly enjoyed the visit and her expertise in the knowledge of this estate and of the Ramsey family. There's a seniors discount and with it, I can promise you that you won't find a better way to spend $8 anywhere!

Went to the Historic Ramsey house on a whim. In the area and seen it on Google maps. It's a beutiful home built in 1797. The property is also impressive with additional out buildings. We decided to take the tour of the home. It was $10 for adults and $8 for kids. Our three year old was free. We did the tour with Ethan and he was a very knowledgeable young man. He explained every room and answered questions. He was an excellent representative of this amazing home. He did an excellent job. The home is really incredible. Filled with antiques and some original furnishings. It's an example of what wealth in the 1700's could afford you. We were at the governor's home at Marble Springs and the difference is night and day. Ethan actually pointed that out in the tour. It's really informative and interesting. You can smell the age when you walk into this home. It's really something to behold. We like to expose our kids to these types of experiences. They really enjoyed it and so did we. I would highly recommend a visit to Historic Ramsey House and please remember to tip Ethan for the tour. He does a great job and a tip is appropriate for what he does.

This place is really cool. The structure of the home is beautifully simplistic and we'll kept. The preservation committee has done well with the restoration. The history of the home is interesting. Location is off the beaten path. Good place to visit with family or solo. It was in my list of haunted places, although I saw no spirits. Still worth checking out.

My best friend and I went for a tour one morning and it was GREAT! The tour guide was fantastic! She was full of knowledge and was happy to answer any questions we had. She wasn't boring at all and really kept our attention. She even told us about the ghosts. The grounds were kept beautifully. Such a great experience. Everything was furnished according to the time period and I literally felt as if I were back in time. Loved it!!

My friends visited Ramsey House recently and had a tour with Ethan and they had such amazing things to say about it that I decided to visit it with my family. Our tour guide was not Ethan, our tour only lasted twenty minutes, the enslaved bedroom above the kitchen wasn't even on the tour though it was for my friends, and there was an embarrassing amount of misinformation shared. Such as the lady of the house wore her keys on an iron ring around her neck and the boys of the house had to take the chamber pots out via a yoke. It's shameful to charge people money and fill their heads with nonsense. Ramsey house is one of the most beautiful homes in East TN, they need to do better.
Chrysanthemum B — Google review
A lovely historic house visit about an important Tennessee family. The guide was lovely, teaching us many cute things about the family. The grounds are lovely as well. I hope that as time goes on they will add more detail about the lives of the people who were enslaved in the house, such as names, because the household was only able to thrive because of the labor of the enslaved people. Also they were part of the household story and deserve as much mention as the Ramseys, perhaps more since they could not profit from their own labor or residence. I am gladdened that a lot more historic homes are engaging with this history, because it is not cute and charming but important.

Lakeshore Park is a popular destination in Knoxville, offering stunning views of the lake and mountains. The park features ball fields, trails, lawns, and a playground for visitors to enjoy. Situated along the Tennessee River, it provides ample space for picnics and leisurely walks along the riverside path. The park's expansive 185 acres include well-maintained walking and running trails that wind through green spaces.
There’s something for everyone at this park. Miles of paved walking trails, multiple playgrounds for all different ages, lots of nature to look at, native plants, history, hall fields, basketball, venues for events, tons of picnic areas, lovely views, etc. currently (spring 2025) they are still updating the park but that just makes it more fun if you have littles because you can go watch the construction vehicles. And the construction mostly stays out of the way of most of the park so it’s not an inconvenience. We took our engagement photos here and we now take our two little girls to come play. Lots to explore, definitely the best park in Knoxville!

If you’re just there to have a picnic, read outside, or just wanting to hangout with friends it’s definitely somewhere you should check out! Oh ps. There are a few different restroom facilities and water fountains throughout the park :) and lots of parking, including accessible parking and sidewalks

It showed a lake in the pics but there was no lake around. There's a part of the playground with huge slides that would be scary for kids so not sure why they even have that section.. there's also another little playground but it's not as big. There's not much to do around there which was disappointing bc online it seemed great..

Marble Springs State Historic Site offers a unique experience as the preserved cabin and farm of Tennessee's first governor, John Sevier. Nestled in a picturesque woodland, this rustic farm site features historic log cabins, including a small tavern and smokehouse. The property was the final residence of John Sevier, a pioneer and Revolutionary War leader who became Tennessee's first governor in 1796. Visitors can explore each site individually or purchase a PastPort for access to multiple historic locations.
This was a great field trip spot with some rich local/state history. Would definitely recommend. The staff were very informative and dressed in 1700s garb even during a musket at one point!

Picturesque surroundings with buildings from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Great period pieces. Some fun hiking trails that need some maintenance.
Debbie B — Google review
This is a hidden gem just outside of Knoxville! Our tour guide John was very knowledgeable and engaging. It wasn't crowded, so we could really take our time and enjoy it. He even knew all the stories about the items in the buildings. Also, lots of open space for kids and not too much clutter in the buildings.
Jennifer M — Google review
Marble Springs State Park is the homestead of Tennessee's first governor John Sevier. It has several historical structures you can go in and view. Depending on the day there can be things going on in any or all of the buildings. Today we saw a loom in operation and the lady was friendly and very knowledgeable. Super sweet to answer all my four year olds questions. The buildings are well maintained and furnished. The tavern and inn was my favorite. You can view them on your own so please be respectful and mindful of the age of these beutiful structures. I can't stress this point enough. We also walked the hiking trail at the edge of the property. It has a few bridges and gives you the opportunity to get out of the hot sun. The spring house is back on the trail. There is also a very nice covered picnic area here as well. It has restroom facilities and a small gift shop. It's got loads of free parking and free admission. I highly recommend a visit to Marble Springs. It's history brought to life.

What a wonderful Historic place so close to home. John was a fabulous tour guide and gave us valuable insight into the history of Marble Springs. Not really much here for kids, but ideal for adults interested in local historical information. A beautiful day ☀️

Marble Springs is a wonderful place to visit and to learn about our first governor of Tennessee. The houses have a rich history. The guide did an excellent job of sharing John Seviers' life with us. The gift shop is cute. The Passport book is a great purchase. It gives the bearer the opportunity to tour seven places and to continue learning the history of Tennessee.

Went for a quick walk today and stopped here to take some photos of the homes with the foliage. When we came in they were in the middle of a halloween festival and lots of local vendors displaying their goods. Spent an hour walking around and planning on returning to hike some of the trails.

Bleak House, also known as the Confederate Memorial Hall, is a grand mansion in Knoxville with a rich history. Originally a wedding gift, it later served as the Confederate army headquarters during the Siege of Knoxville. The Italian Tuscany villa-style mansion offers guided tours and event rentals, and its white walls hold dark secrets from America's past. With lush foliage and an overlook of the Tennessee River, it's a popular spot for family photography and engagement photos.
A beautiful, historic home in the heart of Knoxville. I would highly recommend visiting and planning extra time to tour the vast gardens. Also, ask your tour guide about the stairs.....

I visited the Bleak house today. It was my first time and what a fantastic experience. Both ladies working there were very knowledgeable and a wealth of info. I spent three hours there and could have spent more. Fantastic hidden gem right in Knoxville and should be on any War for Southern Independence history lovers list. Thank y'all for a wonderful time and I can’t wait to bring my family.

We had our wedding there this past weekend, and it was so beautiful. The historic house and the incredible grounds made the perfect backdrop for the most important day of my life. An amazingly beautiful place full to the brim with historical significance, antiques and romance. This beautiful estate is permeated with a mysterious yet romantic aura all the way down to the last detail. It's always been a pleasure to visit and upon leaving you always feel you want to stay longer. The bridal suite is so pretty and accommodates all that a bride could want. I've had the honor of being my little sister's Maid-of-Honor on her wedding day that was held here. It was a magical evening that held the promise of a long and happy future for the new couple. This venue is a place that should be on your radar if you have any event in need of an impressive venue.

Really cool spot to see the bridges and river. Good for a rest and some shade. Not much seating. Black metal chess tabkes at the bottom, not great for summer, scalding hot. Nice little parking lot next to the restaurant.

We had brunch at Calhoun‘s on the River and walked through the. park to the Neyland Stadium for the 2025 UAB versus Tennessee football game. Aside from the nice views views of the river and all of the large boats decked out in orange Tennessee paraphernalia lined up on the river for the game, there are also places where you can sit down and enjoy the views. There are also several artificial rock formations with waterfalls adding a tranquil element to walk.

Amazing place. We’re staying at the Hilton and it’s a very easy walk to this little gem. First of all the atmosphere, decor, etc is so cute…it feels like what a French cafe would be. The menu is expansive. The customer service and ordering was flawless. Now, for the taste…it was wonderful. We got a croissant and bacon (asked us if we wanted it crispy or regular…who does that?! Amazing), and a Nutella and strawberry crepe…so rich and delicious. Vanilla late was perfect too. We got here 3 minutes before they opened and were already 4th in line. By the time we ordered there were 10 more people behind us. The line seemed to move quick though and our food came out very fast. 10/10

I really liked the buckweat one loaded with veggies and feta cheese, but the salmon one was way too salty for me. The bavarian cream one was a bit too sweet for my taste. At first, the line looked crazy long ,but it´s all self service so that explains it and the turnover is pretty fast.

Meh. I have been to better crepe places. The menu has good varieties but there is no uniqueness to it. The gal who took our order appeared to have seen better days I had the roast beef crepes (pictured) and my bf has ham & cheese crepe. The ham & cheese was very basic, no effort at all to elevate the dish. The roast beef looks better but taste wise nothing super tasty The cafe decor was alright Again nothing unique about this place.

Beautiful park, especially at night with the lights. It’s a nice little oasis in the middle of Knoxville! One problem is that there is a lot of homeless people though.

This park is highly trafficked and sometimes people who are homeless congregate there. However, on the weekends it's usually nice and there are pretty art pieces and statues/sculptures. In that sense. It's nice. But definitely a daytime, Sunny and warm place for a visit. There isn't anything for children to play on and it's mostly a nicer wooded area with some water in the middle of downtown Knoxville. Not much to see there. For us. It's just a nicer way to walk when going to market square.

Very nice park central downtown Knoxville location adjacent to beautiful Market Square. The Charles Krutch Park is relatively small covering parts of two city lots. It has a very nice variety of trees and shade. The Parks walking path meanders throughout lovely grounds decorated with art sculptures; these are exceptional making the Park an Art Gallery. Wow, this park is very well groomed and maintained, additionally throughout the year they display various decorations that reflect the seasonal celebrations and local events. The Park is graced with a nice pond and stream (although the stream is man-made it is a work of art in itself to me); plenty of places to sit and enjoy yourself, the Park and has many Historic surroundings that include so much; there are hotels, museums, theaters, shopping, great restaurants, plenty of bars that range from downright funky (artistically) to classy and also several places to socialize which are favorites to locals. Within a few blocks of this park are many fantastic places to visit. One of my favorites is perhaps the best pet shop ever, CitiFid-O (you gotta check it out and please read my review on it and other local attractions). Six blocks away is Chesapeake's Seafood Restaurant which is extremely popular for dining, for the bar specialties, for the staff (ask for Ben server and Dave the Bartender... but remember they all are special), oh and for sure the great mix of Knoxville finest customers). Yes, the Charles Krutch Park location is a great asset for the Downton Knoxville. Plan on taking your best friends and family, a camera and some food; have a lovely picnic for yourself or you can enjoy a delightful lunch in famous Market Square which is across the street. Enjoy, enjoy this park, I think you will! Oh, the people in Knoxville are very friendly!

Wild Love Bakery is absolutely delightful! I got a green tea oat milk matcha latte, which might have been the best I’ve ever had—so creamy and flavorful. I also tried one of their chocolate chip cookies, which was layered and delicious: crispy on the edges, soft in the middle, and so yummy. The granola looks incredible, the croissants are gorgeous, and I love all the merchandise they have, especially the cute farmers market bags. Everything feels fresh and thoughtfully made. The customer service is excellent as well—so friendly and sweet, with young people who clearly love working there and are happy to answer any questions. Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience

My first time experiencing wild love, I will definitely be back:) the baristas were really sweet. I ordered an almond croissant it’s the best I’ve had in Knoxville. It’s comparable to one I had in Chattanooga a few months ago, so I’m glad I can find a delicious croissant close to home!! I also got an Ube latte. It was not too potent and subtle in flavor. Their espresso is smooth and not too acidic. As for the ambiance, I studied for several hours on the outdoor patio. It was shady where I sat and there were outlets nearby. It was soooo cute I can’t wait to go back and try more of the sweet treats and flavors! I wanted the blueberry sage seasonal syrup but they were out. I hope they make more by next visit 😏hehehhe

I never would have imagined I'd have spent over $40 in a bakery for just myself, but here we are! I needed a morning drink to finish out the last leg of my trip to Michigan and back to GA. I'm usually not a traditional bakery kind of person, but I could see the gals in the back actually making the treats and everything in the case looked so go I figured I'd try a few things. I started with three ( I wasn't trying to be greedy), but then the gentleman in front of me said one of the pastries was seasonal and really good and he hadn't seen it in the last 5 times he'd come in so I had to add that one (the one in the bottom of the pic I bit out of). LISTEN WHEN I TELL YOU BUY IT ALL! OMG I sat in my car thinking I would take a quick bite of something and be on my way. Um, no! I'm sitting here compelled to try the next item in the bag because the previous was so dang good!!!! I've got a pile of pastries in my lap like I'm hoarding my dragon's stash of gold 🤣 I'm tearing up a little over how good it is. This place is absolutely amazing and will definitely be back. ❤️❤️❤️

Pastries are delightfully tasty!! An absolute treat for our road trip and the day after back home. The long lines of people in the queue and the full dining room is definitely evidence of its greatness. Note that you do pay a good penny for these wonderful treats. And I do wish that they would make prices visible for pastries just like they do for coffee!
Grace S — Google review
They have the BEST pastries in town. I drive all the way over for the prosciutto croissant! I was sadly disappointed today by the matcha latte, not the best quality and/or way too much milk :(
Stephanie W — Google review
We were recommended this bakery by several people. And I can't recommend it enough to anyone reading. We got there about 930am on Saturday and there was a line out the door. Don't let it deter you. The employees are all very nice, knowledgeable and efficient. Pastries are fresh and coffee is great. It's been a long time since I found a bakery worth the wait and hype but this is it. They have a small seating area indoors and a nice deck with tables outdoors. We got different scones, bread and croissants- all amazing. We got seasonal lattes, also so good and spot on with flavor.

Crescent Bend House & Garden is a historic home located at 2728 Kingston Pike, known for its antique furniture and scenic Italian gardens. The property was originally a 900-acre farm that witnessed Civil War skirmishes and the wounding of federal Brig. Gen. William P. Sanders. The house, completed in 1834, belonged to Drury Paine Armstrong and his family for over 60 years.
Awesome venue for your wedding, maybe a rehearsal dinner, or any local event that you might want to have. We attended the annual Kentucky Derby Day that we pencil in on our calendar every year. They do a phenomenal job with this event every year from coordinating with the RiverBoat Queen to having show Horses, to authentic food to enjoy, it truly is an all day event worth attending every year.
Alan S — Google review
As wedding photographers, we’ve shot at a ton of venues, and Crescent Bend is definitely one of the standouts. The property is beautiful with tons of great photo opportunities, and the ceremony space down by the river was especially peaceful and scenic. What really sets it apart, though, are the people. Caroline and Whitley were incredibly helpful and kind—super attentive and kept things on track with the timeline without ever feeling overbearing. Their professionalism made the day run smoothly and stress-free. Beautiful spot, amazing staff. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a wedding venue that truly takes care of you.

I was a guest at a wedding at Crescent Bend House and Garden. The view and setting are fabulous. Grounds are nice, just need a little TLC. Food was good. However, the in-house wedding coordinator left for most of the reception causing chaos and confusion. The assistant was no where to be found. No one prompted the toasts so the family just winged it. The microphone was not working for the toasts and no one was there to help. The tables were never called to go eat, so the food was cold by the time we got to the buffet. The DJ did not have the play list so dancing never took off. The whole flow was awkward. Most guests left early (four hours early). No one there to prompt the bride and groom to do the cake so the bridal party tried. No one knew how to do the cake cutting, leaving the bride in tears because it was awkward. The whole evening then ended abruptly about when the coordinator showed up. It was terrible. This must have been sad for the family with all the money they spent. This should never happen to any bride on her wedding day.
J — Google review
Crescent bend appears to be closed. Their phone number, which is on their website and on the 'Past Port', has been disconnected according to the phone company when I called the number. I showed up without calling first and was surprised to find no one there. That's a shame because the gardens are beautiful.

If you're searching for a wedding venue that offers ambiance, romance, and natural beauty, then Crescent Home & Gardens is a perfect choice. As a Knoxville wedding photographer, this place is a dream! The historic home, cascading formal Italian gardens, fountains, and terraces are downright stunning !

This is a great place in Knoxville for a wedding or any other type of private event (corporate or personal). Great atmosphere and location on the river with a beautiful garden complete with water features and wonderful landscaping. I little treasure few really know about.

We highly recommend Crescent Bend to brides and grooms who are looking for a Knoxville wedding venue! Judy and her team are fabulous to work with, and they provide a consistent high quality wedding experience! They are reliable, professional, fun, and amazing to work with! We highly recommend Crescent Bend for any Knoxville wedding!

Mast General Store Knoxville is a historic retailer that has been offering a wide range of products since 1883. It's a family-friendly destination with something for everyone, including old-fashioned toys at Phoenix Pharmacy and Fountain, sparkly wonders at Glitterville, and local art at Rala. Visitors can also watch artisans in action at Pretentious Glass. Just outside the store, Gay Street offers a stroll through history with its theaters, art galleries, and restaurants.
Great store located downtown Knoxville along a street lined with many stores to stop in.the store has many quirky and nostalgic items for sale from candy to clothes and food stuff that brings back childhood memories .great store to stop by when in downtown Knoxville especially with family and young kids.

Always fun to visit the Mast store. Great selection of clothes and fun and nostalgic gifts. We were doing a hike and the weather was chiller than expected had some great flannels and sweatshirts. Do t pass on the candy and toy section got some early Christmas gifts
Rich W — Google review
I have purchased much here in the past. Now they sell LL Bean products and LL Bean is a major contributor to the political Project 2025. I relish democracy and my religious freedom. I am a Christian and not the kind that supports Christian nationalism. Mast General Store has lost my business.
Fred S — Google review
We love shopping at the Mast store. They have a good variety of products that are made of excellent quality. There are some beautiful store front exhibits that have been decorated for Christmas. This is one of the best stores in Downtown Knoxville
GLR — Google review
A joy to walk in, experience the nostalgia of old country mercantile stores, with a touch of modern amenities. Quality items, unique gift ideas, etc...wonderful new discovery that we will visit again and again when visiting out east.
Mary C — Google review
This place is huge, and I didn't even make it downstairs. They have all kinds of cool stuff, from clothes to food items. And I guess most of the outdoor gear is downstairs. I only took a few pics, but I'm sure there's a ton on here. I bought a sweatshirt & a couple other things, but I will be back. When you're done here, you can head to Phoenix Pharmacy & get a banana split.
Kendra B — Google review
Mast General Store is a gem in the community, providing a fantastic shopping experience with its extensive range of high-quality products. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are not only friendly but also extremely knowledgeable, always ready to assist with any inquiries or product recommendations. The store itself is impeccably organized and maintained, making it a pleasure to navigate through the various aisles and sections. The product selection at Mast General Store is impressive. Whether you're looking for everyday essentials, unique specialty items, or thoughtful gifts, you're likely to find it here. The store has a distinct charm, blending modern convenience with a nostalgic feel of a classic general store. In fact, stepping into Mast General Store may remind you of a supersized Cracker Barrel, with its delightful mix of merchandise and cozy, inviting ambiance. It’s clear that a lot of thought and care goes into curating the inventory, ensuring customers have access to both popular and hard-to-find items. However, the only aspect holding back a perfect 5-star rating is the noticeable mark-up on many items. While the quality and convenience offered are undeniable, the pricing can be significantly higher compared to other retailers. This can be a bit of a deterrent, especially for those who are budget-conscious. It’s understandable that operating a store of such caliber comes with higher costs, but the substantial price differences can sometimes make it challenging to justify certain purchases. Despite this, Mast General Store remains a highly recommended shopping destination. If you're in downtown Knoxville, the exceptional service, curated product selection, and overall pleasant shopping environment make it worth visiting. If you’re willing to overlook the higher prices, you’ll find it to be a delightful place to shop for both necessities and special items.

Farmers' market
The Market Square Farmers Market is a must-visit event during the warmer months, with a smaller market continuing through winter. Taking place every Wednesday and Saturday in downtown Market Square and neighboring Krutch Park, it features local vendors selling everything from craft goods to locally-sourced produce. The market is a popular weekly stop for locals to catch up with friends, enjoy food and drinks, and stock up on pantry essentials.
If you visit East Tennessee, Knoxville Tennessee or University of Tennessee please make time for a trip to downtown farmers market and come see me at Bays Mountain Soap on Wednesday and Saturday. This is a unique opportunity to experience a variety of different hand made items from 150 miles of Knoxville. Shop and learn more about the history of our “little home town”. Hope to see you at market
Christine G — Google review
Even in the rain there were plenty of amazing booths. Some with flowers, baked goods, jewelry, fruits and veggies. The list goes on. Loved it!
Marilyn R — Google review
Always fun to wander around the Market Square Farmers Market on a Saturday morning. You can find local produce, meats, honey, breads, pasta, cookies, goat cheese, mushrooms, crafts, coffee, home made soaps, Tennessee maple syrup, donuts, roasted corn on the cob and more sweets.
Regenia S — Google review
A “hobby” my husband and I have is to try to visit farmer’s markets whenever we travel. The Market Square Farmer’s Market is probably the best one we have ever visited. The offerings are all top notch. There is always unusual and outstanding produce, things that you can’t find in a store. I occasionally have to ask “What is that?” And it may be a rare berry or an unusual variety of mushroom, squash or cucumber, or a type of egg I have never seen before. There are freshly made dog treats, sauces and spices, baked goods and a small amount of high quality arts and crafts. The people watching (and animal watching) here is great! You might see the cutest dogs (or cats, or goats, or a squirrel riding on his friend’s shoulder…). There is often live music or parades here. There are multiple restaurants where you can eat on the patio while watching all the goings on. We feel so fortunate to live close to our favorite farmer’s market!
Molly B — Google review
So lucky to have a seasonal farmers market as amazing as this one in the heart of our city. I love to make a day out of coming. I’ll get groceries for the following week and grab a few treats along the way! Take the opportunity to speak with the local vendors and enjoy the beauty of downtown Knoxville. Side note…. If you want flowers, I suggest arriving early! They sell out fast!
Katie W — Google review
Yes, yes you should go. Buying from local farmers is buying products that are grown with pride. Veggies, meats, handcrafted arts and a huge variety of restaurants. My favorite is the home-baked foccaccia and speciality garlic.
Patricia C — Google review
Best farmer's market I've ever been to (and I've been to all the Portland markets!) Loved the wide rows and laid back feel. Great vendors, lots of awesome vegetables and foods to choose from.
Heather M — Google review
Something for everyone. Lots of local craftsmen, bakers, produce, musicians, street performers, even mushrooms! Downtown area is so quaint with lots of restaurants. Three Bears coffee stand provided hot, steamy goodness for only $2 a cup. The bakers had some of the freshest, tastiest bread ever. Definitely a must see/do while in town.

Notable street
Gay Street, located south of the Southern Railway tracks, is a historic thoroughfare with a rich past. It was the site of the 1796 Constitutional Convention that led to Tennessee's statehood and played a pivotal role in political activities during the early years of statehood. The street experienced significant economic development due to railroad construction, becoming the center of Knoxville's commercial activity. Over time, Gay Street became a prominent destination for notable figures such as Andrew Jackson and Frederick Douglass.
This is a beautiful street right in the middle of downtown Knoxville with a lot of historical significance!
