It stands about four storeys tall (≈ 25 meters) just inside the fort walls, at the Moon Bastion, on the site of the old guard room. It’s a great place for a quiet walk, good photos, and seeing views of the fort, the sea, and even the nearby cricket stadium. Sometimes the clock doesn’t work, but the structure itself has character, history, and a strong presence in the Fort.

You can also see items found from shipwrecks like anchors and pipes. Some parts inside feel a bit hot and old, but the museum is very interesting if you like history and the sea. Great museum! It’s a wonderful place to visit. There’s an impressive giant whale skeleton, nearly 13.5 meters long, which is really fascinating to see. Entrance ticket is required, but it’s definitely worth it!

I may be biased as I love Maritime museums. I spent well over an hour here in this small museum and read every informational panel. Really interesting history from prehistory to colonial times and all the trade routes and partners including Dutch, British, French and Chinese. Entry seems free for locals and I had to laugh at the foreigners price which looks like its changed daily based on exchange rates with USD? It was 1818LKR for me which ensured I ended up with a handful of rupee coins as change! Only downside is their is no air con and the humidity is horrendous inside this muesum. In each room I stood in front of the one pedestal fan to try and cool myself off.

It was great, and the kids loved it. Foreign visitors must pay 1800 LKR.

A very small but quaint museum detailing history of Galle. It is a little run down but has interesting displays of uniforms, weaponry, porcelain and furniture. Cheao entry price. You could spent 30 mins here as there are only a few rooms. I only lasted about 15 mins as there was no aircons and only one or two fans. I visited in the middle of the day and the heat and humidity was terrible inside. Plan to visit early in the morning.

This museum contains some interesting pieces, but the overall presentation is poor and the explanatory text is often too cursory. The Maritime Museum a short distance away does a much better job of explaining and illustrating Sri Lanka’s cultural history.

Ticket: LKR 50 per local adult and LKR 25 for children. The whole area can be visited within 20–25 minutes. Some archaeological artifacts are displayed here. There is a separate section that shows historical facts about the China-Sri Lanka bond. The place is easily accessible, and ample paid parking spaces are available.

Actually as far as Museums go this was quite a pleasant surprise. The building itself is impressive as it is the oldest remaining Dutch building in the Galle fort, Galle It is just a single Storey colonnaded 1656 as the commissariat store for the Dutch garrison at the Fort. It is stacked with all sorts of museum pieces and I was delighted to be able to buy something from Sri Lanka for my grandchildren. So it was a very beneficial visit.

Lovely old town. Nice to walk around the fort, which takes you around 1h. Everything is free, but there are a lot of tuktuk drivers/taxi drivers who try to sell you a tour (you can easily explore on your own and read some signs for information) Good history.

I don’t think there’s any fee…at least we didn’t have to pay. We stopped by the museum by accident as it was raining a lot but it turned out to be a great educational session! The museum does have a lot of ancient valuables from the Dutch ship wreck. It’s amazing to see those hundreds-years-old items are well kept. There’s also a gen store inside the museum; the gentlemen there were very kind and friendly. They showed me many options of what I was looking for without forcing on a purchase. I didn’t buy anything as I needed to explore more options but they do have good gems with certification.

This museum is owned to an individual and he is maintain it by himself. We dont need to buy a ticket. They have very value items. Even a stamps collection. Highly recommend.

I visited Mr. Ameen's museum with two of my philatelic enthusiastic friends on last Saturday. We informed him earlier as we wished to meet him too. He was away for some business by the time we went there but, he left all his work behind and came to greet us. That's not all, he showed us everything he has and gave us a nice briefing of the history of his fantastic collection of antique which span almost like half a century. He was very informative and knew what he's talking about. Then he took us to another place belongs to him and showed us what's he's planning to do within next few weeks and he even offered us refreshments. It's a time well spent for all of us. I encourage you all to pay this nice gentleman a visit if you happened to go to Galle fort.

The narrow cobbled streets were softly lit with warm streetlights, and the cool breeze from the ocean made the walk even more refreshing. The historic charm of the Dutch architecture stood out beautifully under the night sky. Many small shops and cafés were still open, offering a cozy and welcoming vibe. Some had soft music playing, and the aroma of coffee and local food filled the air. The view from the fort walls was breathtaking — looking out at the dark sea under a sky full of stars was truly magical. There were couples walking hand-in-hand, friends laughing, and even solo travelers like me simply enjoying the moment. Everything felt safe and relaxed. Galle Fort at night is perfect if you’re looking for a quiet place to reflect, take photos, or just enjoy the beauty of history meeting the ocean. It’s not just a place to visit, it’s a place to feel. I highly recommend experiencing it after sunset — it has a charm you won’t find anywhere else.

We had such a wonderful time exploring the Galle Dutch Fort as a couple with our 10-year-old. It’s such a charming place — full of history, character, and amazing ocean views. We visited the lighthouse, clock tower, and walked along the rampart walls, catching the sunset from Flag Rock Bastion Point — absolutely stunning! The golden light over the ocean made it feel magical. We also enjoyed a bit of shopping at Spa Ceylon and Barefoot, wandered through the quaint alleys, and treated ourselves to some ice cream before having dinner at one of the food courts near the entrance. The blend of colonial architecture, relaxed vibe, and sea breeze made it a perfect family evening. Highly recommend spending a few hours here — it’s one of the most beautiful spots in Sri Lanka! 🌅🏰🌊

Lovely old town. Nice to walk around the fort, which takes you around 1h. Everything is free, but there are a lot of tuktuk drivers/taxi drivers who try to sell you a tour (you can easily explore on your own and read some signs for information) Good history.

It's a lovely beach but all over the rocks and the pathway it has been littered with beer can and alcohol bottles. It was disheartening to see , as the beach is so beautiful. Hopefully they organized a clean up of the area and maintain it better.

Jungle Beach is a hidden and beautiful beach surrounded by the jungle. Sadly, it is also polluted in some areas with litter, which takes away its natural beauty. To get there, you need to walk down a short trail from the vehicle parking area, which is easy to find and not very long. The view is fantastic. The beach can get crowded most of the time, especially on weekends.

A small trek through the cliffs gets you to this calm,secluded beach. Its very untouched in many ways. The water is clean, the surroundings well maintained. The hardly any people. Only tourists form nearby resorts would trek to this beach. The waves were not too strong and perfectly safe for swimming. You can also find a small cafe which serves drinks and food. Very nice place to hangout. There are no activities such as snorkeling or surfing. I would highly recommend visiting Jungle beach if staying in unawatuna. ⛱️

Beautiful! We recommend you to visit this place. Make sure to cover shoulders and knees to visit. Parking is possible all the way up (500rps). The visit was free, but we donated some rps to the monk who resides there since 2004. He was really friendly and welcoming. Try to avoid moments when they do celebrations because it gets really crowded. Possibility to attend group ceremonies. Hours are shown there.

It was built by Japanese monks, and you can often hear soft chanting or ringing of the temple bell, which adds to the calmness. Access is easy by tuk-tuk, or you can hike up through the Jungle Beach trail if you prefer a bit of adventure. Entry is free, though donations are welcome. Free vehicle parking is also available. This is a really nice and calm place which gives a fascinating view of the nearby Galle harbor and fort. To watch the sunset, this is a good place. Vibrant red and orange colors mixed with the reflection of the Galle sea makes it really beautiful.

A really calm place surrounded by jungle..... The place is so quiet and relaxing. Good for meditation. And the Buddhist monk there was really friendly. On top of that the view of Galle city is priceless 🤌🤌. A place you should visit once in your lifetime. Enjoy the place. Highly recommend. There are vendors besides the roads, make sure to drink a fresh king coconut as well. It's worth it .

O found the concept interesting. Once it was a hospital now converted to restaurants and shops. Many restaurants have both inside and outside seating arrangements. 1st floor has the better view of the ocean. Of you are lucky, you can spot some peacocks while dining. Toilets are not very good, stinky. Inside yard has construction work going on, so sometimes may get noisy.

Nice place but the repair and maintenance is extremly low or lazy....I know that in tropical climate that it is going very fast, so the paintjobs should be faster. I am sure that the rents for the shops are high enough for a much better maintenance. A shame for the owners of this old wonderful building.

The beach is filthy, covered in litter, plastics bags wrap around your legs in the water. People relax on daybeds taking up most of the sand, surrounded by garbage, disappointing. Most of it is probably washed up from elsewhere, refuse plastic shopping bags whenever you can so they don't end up as trash on the beaches or strangling the marine life.

Visited the sea turtle farm recently. As a local, the entrance fee was Rs. 500, which is reasonable. The place is decent and seems more geared toward tourists. If you're genuinely interested in sea turtles or conservation, it's worth a quick visit. But if you're not that into it, you might find it a bit underwhelming—probably better to just stay outside and enjoy the view. Overall, a good initiative, just not very engaging for everyone.

Paid Rs 2000 for entrance as a foreigner. They share with you lots of information about the initiative and how the safe and rescue the turtle. If your really interested in turtles then migh be worth a visit. The whole experience takes about 10 min. Its not really for everyone. If you have no entrance in turtles then might be disappointed or find it underwhelming. The kids however might enjoy it. The highlight of the visit is carrying Monica (10kg turtle) and taking pics with her.

Not worth for the Price. (1000 LKR Local | 2000 LKR Foreign) I recently visited this sea turtle hatchery center. They have several kinds of turtles, including some rare species, which was interesting to see. However, I felt the ticket price for locals (LKR 1000) was too high and not worth the value provided. The maintenance costs may be significant, but there are other hatcheries that charge less while offering a more engaging and informative experience.

Please listen to the negative reviews and do not visit this place. It is only a business, without the aim to help turtles. There is a big (~0.5 m, many years old) blind turtle in a square pool with size of 1.5 meters. They told us, that this old turtle was born there and shall be released to a bigger pool in the next weeks, even if this was true it would mean that this turtle lived there several years in minimum space. You have to pay 10000 rupees to release baby turtles to the sea. This does not seem like they want to do something positive for these animals. The entry is 2000 rupees per person to see these creatures suffer in very small pools without any sea plants or other natural looking stuff. It is sad, that this is allowed by Sri Lanka government.

We got the chance to release baby turtles into the ocean — it was such a magical and emotional moment! In the evening, we also helped feed the turtles with fresh fish, which was really fun and exciting. The staff were very kind and explained everything clearly, sharing lots of interesting information about how they rescue injured turtles and protect their eggs. The location is also stunning — you can enjoy a breathtaking sunset right by the beach after your visit. The whole atmosphere is peaceful and filled with positive energy. You can truly feel that all the funds go towards the turtles’ wellbeing. Highly recommend this place to everyone visiting Galle! It’s not just a tourist stop it’s a meaningful experience that helps support nature and marine life.

I visited Isle of Gelato at Galle Fort on a Sunday evening. It was quite crowded, with both locals and tourists. They have a big variety of ice creams for about LKR 1000 each (cup or cone). We tried blueberry and Oreo – both were really good, and the portions were generous. One cup is enough for two people to share. The customer service was nice, and they have seating upstairs, indoors, and outside.

The flavors are inventive. The shop has a bright, cozy vibe and friendly staff who make you feel welcome. Prices are a bit on the higher side, but the quality and taste easily make it worth it. A must-visit for dessert and coffee lovers!

I had this one particular flavour which I felt like chocolate in the form of ice cream. Every bite of it was sooooo good. I can’t remember the exact name but it was something that tasted like milk chocolate. Most of their stuff I’ve tried is good.

I stopped by Isle of Gelato during my visit to Galle Fort, and it turned out to be a great little spot to cool down and take a break. I tried two flavors — passion fruit and coconut — both were full of tropical flavor and really refreshing. The passion fruit had that perfect balance of tangy and sweet, while the coconut was creamy and smooth, just like you'd expect from a good island gelato. The vibe of the place is chill, making it a nice spot to hang out for a bit. There's an upstairs seating area, which is a cool idea, but it could definitely use a bit of maintenance — maybe a refresh to match the quality of the gelato downstairs. All in all, a solid stop for a sweet treat while exploring the fort.

An old historic mosque built in 1904 with beautiful baroque architectural detailing is located inside the ancient Dutch Fort in Galle, Sri Lanka.

We went to this masjid today. There was a lady at the entrance of the women's prayer area who didn't let us go to the toilet with our shoes . She was forcing us to wear the slippers there. This is NOT hygine. If a woman who has a skin problem had worn these slippers before, probably the next woman who wears them might get the same skin problem . So there SHOULDN'T be seperate slippers for the people . Besides how can someone force us to do something that's NOT Hygine ? she did it.... i even saw a woman who was going to pray , giving money to her even though right next to her, on a board it's written that "No one is authorized to get money to the hand. ". She randomly chooses the women & then force only them. So i don't believe this is a rule of the Masjid. Pls take this in to consider. Turn a cctv camera to her direction , advice her not to force anyone like this. If this doesn't work, she's not suitable for this job anymore.

Very clean mosque in fort area. Not many people there. It's a medium size mosque. All the buildings in these area are painted white. Plenty of carpark space.

One of the most iconic masjids in Sri Lanka. Facing the lighthouse, this beautifully maintained whitewashed building is a highly unusual construction combining eclectic architectural features that include a dash of baroque, British Victorian and Islamic detailing. Its facade is more reminiscent of a Portuguese cathedral than a mosque. There's no general admission, but non-Muslims may be invited to enter if dressed appropriately. Inside there's a wonderful little mihrab, complete with small decorative domes, and some attractive floor tiling.

Overall, I had a good experience at this restaurant. The atmosphere is rustic and casual, with a relaxed, informal, and natural vibe. It's an ideal spot for a meal, offering a clear view of the Galle sea. For food, the prawn curry with roast paan was a definite highlight—an absolute win! However, the seafood fried rice was only average. The mocktail was also average and could have had a more elevated flavor. There service is efficient and supportive.

Minute by Tuc Tuc – Galle’s Polished Pit Stop Walked into Minute by Tuc Tuc because it looked like the kind of place that sells you “local flavor” with a Wi-Fi password and a splash of aioli. You know the type — walls painted just right, menu written in a font someone workshopped for three weeks. I got a wrap. Some fusion thing. Western enough to make a tourist feel brave, Eastern enough to keep the Instagram caption authentic. It was good — really — but good in that safe, engineered-for-air-conditioning kind of way. A little crispy, a little spicy, no real commitment either way. This place isn’t trying to blow your mind. It’s trying to give you a decent bite before you wander off to buy overpriced linen shirts or take selfies by the lighthouse. And that’s fine. Not every meal has to be a story. Sometimes it’s just fuel, dressed up in a paper wrap. It’s a decent stop. Not a destination. Don’t expect soul. But if you need a break, and you’re okay paying a little extra for comfort disguised as culture — Minute by Tuc Tuc will do just fine.

Great spot inside the Old Dutch Hospital, perfect for enjoying the views from the fort. It’s a lovely place to relax with a cold beer and some snacks while taking in the atmosphere of Galle.

Being in the top 10 restaurants in Galle and with a great looking menu, I thought I would take the ride over and try this restaurant. Firstly the location is fantastic, it overlooks the sea with fantastic views and a nice ocean breeze which does make a big difference in my opinion. The staff are fantastic and know their menu inside and out, speak great English and gave us some nice recommendations. The menu is varied so there is something for everyone which makes life easy! All the food was delicious and drinks were great. The pricing for what we had was good, very reasonable compared to other restaurants we had been to in the area. We will definitely visit when next in Galle.

Small and peaceful temple located in Galle Fort facing to Rampart street. This temple has small prayer hall, small stupa, big reclining lord buddha statue and other small wood statues. There is a small musium in this temple. There is no dedicated vehicle park for temple. Few vehicles can pe parked on the road side.

If you're a Traveller, you'll definitely need to make it to the temple. Open to all factions of life, the temple has quite a bit of history and the artifacts and statues are of great historical value. Be respectful when entering since it is a holy place of worship

Whale and Dolphin Watching with the Sri Lankan Navy The Sri Lankan Navy offers a professional whale and dolphin watching service, ensuring maximum safety standards. The staff is friendly and helpful, making the experience enjoyable for all passengers. The journey lasts about five hours and covers a distance of 30–40 km from Galle Harbour toward Mirissa. If it’s your first time whale watching, be prepared for potential sea sickness. As of December 2024, the ticket price is LKR 7,200 per person (inclusive of tax). Season and Booking: The best time for whale watching in Galle and Mirissa is between November and April. Select a day during this period and book your seats in advance with a deposit. On the reserved date, ensure you arrive at Galle Harbour between 5:45–6:00 AM. The Vessel: Princess of Lanka: You will sail aboard the Princess of Lanka, a large passenger craft with a capacity of 400 passengers—much bigger than most private whale-watching boats. Navy officers provide refreshments, beverages, and fruits upon boarding. However, avoid eating too much early on, as sea sickness is common. The seats are comfortable, each equipped with a life jacket, which must be worn when venturing outside. Basic washroom facilities are also available. Before departure, officers will provide safety instructions. The Journey: The ship departs around 7:00 AM. Once it leaves the harbor, passengers can go outside. Within the first 30 minutes, many passengers may experience sea sickness. To minimize discomfort, stay outside, breathe fresh air, and focus on the horizon to help stabilize your senses. About two hours into the journey, you’ll likely encounter dolphins swimming and spinning close to the ship—a stunning and memorable sight. Around 10:00 AM, the ship reaches the whales’ habitat. Spotting whales can be challenging as they often stay submerged. The Navy ship tracks private boats to locate them. During this time, the ship may make sharp turns, and the waves can be rough, so hold on carefully. Due to its size, the Princess of Lanka is slower than smaller boats, but with some luck, you may witness a whale! Returning to Harbor: After spending some time observing whales, the ship begins its return journey. By this point, passengers are often tired and affected by the long sail and sea sickness. The ship arrives back at Galle Harbour around 12:30 PM, concluding the trip. Overall Experience: This whale and dolphin watching excursion is a unique and memorable experience. While the journey is long and sea sickness is possible, dolphin sightings are almost guaranteed. However, spotting whales depends on luck. Wishing you a safe and exciting adventure!

Sri Lanka Navy team provides excellent and professional service . Price is very reasonable. Snacks and refreshments are included. Life jackets and Life Saving Teams are onboard in case of emergency as well. Before you board to the ship just think about your ability to bare situations like boat Rides. If you are a person who get sick while travelling just have a tablet to avoid such a situation. Most of people had sea sick while Journey .we got a chance to see dolphins and whales. This experience is a lifetime experience. Highly Recommend.

This programme is run by SL NAVY. They use this A543 ship for whale watching. This ship can carry more than 100 people at once. They provide a free meal for each person too. If you feel tired you can rest inside the ship. The seats are comfortable. There is no rush at all. After we get out from the harber we were allowed to come out side and experience the real thing. After we sail for like 2h we get a chance to see hundreds of dolphines. You can see them very closely and clearly. But seen a whale is very rare. Fortunatly I got a chance to see a whale. It apeared once and came up again like after 10 minutes. When they say there is a whale you better pay your full attention to the sea. I sudgest you to burrow sunglasses and some hats because you are exposing to direct sunlight while you are outside the ship. It will be more fun if you have a pair of binoculars too. Because you can see the other ships using it. This experience is a lifetime experience. Highly Recommend.

Highly recommend for Dolphin and Whale watching. Safe, comfortable, guaranteed, professional service. Great for family with kids. Not the best for photographers (Will be hard to find a good spot on the deck, with the crowd). Food, drink, life jackets are provided. Cruise starts from Galle Navy camp and go towards Mirissa/Matara and back. It took about 6 hours for the ride (depends on the location of Dolphins/Whales).

Navy staff is so nice & giving a good service during the tour. It’s a safety & comfortable tour which goes around 5 hours.

Sailing from galle- go early to get seats in better places - officers are professional and Kind - contact them through WhatsApp - emailing not required - Saturdays only sailing - do not carry water bottles or food- those included in the package -( for one person they will give 2 food boxes and a water bottle) so make sure to collect each 2 boxes for 1 if you going as a group - and they have a cantin which sell products for very reasonable prices , Carry a bag with you so you can bring back the remaining fruits or anything,for kids sea sick is almost there so do the needful before onboard, upper floor deck saw more comfortable seatings but no idea about that, you can go Park vehicles inside,

be careful. There is a man who approaches you in a very friendly manner. He tells you about the tsunami and mentions that he is on his way to the city. He also mentions that you can buy spices and tea much cheaper in the “Dutch market”. He also mentioned to us that there was an Ayurvedic oil for mosquito bites and described what it looked like. Quite by chance he had to go in the same direction. everything was very perfidious. it's a scam. The oil apparently doesn't help against mosquitoes and is sold at far too high a price. Go to the city yourself and buy the spices yourself. Don't follow this guy.

We are so glad we did not go to this place, especially after reading these reviews. But we did come across this said scammer, who told us he was on the way to pick up his kids and that he could bring us to the market. We did not take up his offer as we wanted to head back to our hotel to rest. We were just about to visit this market but decided to have a look at the reviews. We will definitely not be going. A friendly-looking man will approach you near Galle Fort. He’s slightly balding but has dreadlock-like hair, noticeable gaps between his teeth, and talks smoothly. He’ll start a casual conversation, asking where you’re from and then telling you about a so-called “Dutch Market” where you can buy cheap souvenirs for home. Conveniently, he says he’s heading that way anyway to pick up his child from school and mentions he’s a fisherman with 7 boats to add credibility. We didn’t fall for it — but be alert! This is a common tourist scam in Galle. Avoid following him.

This is a «local» market targetting tourists. There are a lot of fruit sellers and some tourist shops. The only authentic shop we saw was the basket weaver shop. The fruit offered here is good and exotic. King cocnuts, Lankan pineapple and lemin banana ++++, so anywhay its worth a small visit if tou’re in the area. I wouldnt go here for this market. In the sidestreets there are more true local shops.

This is not a review of the market itself... just a review of the SCAMMER... old toothless man near the fort offering to take you there and asking you to buy powdered milk for his child... He is a SCAMMER!!! The review here by Daniel M. describes it perfectly (read it). I have been traveling extensively worldwide for over 45 years and don't get scammed easily... BUT... this old man got me too 😲😔... He's sweet and disarming with a story about the 2004 Tsunami disaster... BUT DON'T FALL FOR IT. If you end up at the store about to buy powdered milk for his pretend kids and he tells you the price of 3900 😲😲😲.. It's time to back out. Just say NO and walk out of the store without another word. Scam area. How it works: a toothless 50 yrs old guy will approach you in the street and offer to help you find a good market. He’ll say he loves your country and doctors from your country helped him during the tsunami. He’ll take you to the Dutch market, and then to a tea/spices shop, saying that it’s much cheaper than in the old city. It’s actually 2x more expensive. We didn’t buy, so he came up with a story that he needs milk for his kids. He took us to a grocery shop, where we bought powder milk (rs3900) for more than what a regular supermarket charges. He probably sells it back to the market after we leave.

What a great dinner experience in Galle. A large and varied menu with great choices across many cuisines. The setting is quaint and it felt special walking through the varied seating options. We elected a quiet corner and we were not disappointed by the ambiance of the restaurant. Fairy lights, cute fixtures. Our meals were all delicious and full of flavour. I had a burger and it had freshness in the salad as well as a tasty chicken patty. Served with fries it was a perfect change from curries for me. If you are looking for a relaxed meal, in the beautiful old city, you will not be disappointed here.

We visited yesterday and enjoyed it so much that we came back again today! We had the spicy kottu pasta and the Sri Lankan chicken curry — both were absolutely delicious. With the curry, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary king coconut, and we were also given curd with honey to help cool things down after the spicy kottu — a thoughtful touch that made the experience even better. We also tried the papaya juice and the passion fruit with lime juice — both were out-of-this-world delicious! The staff were cheerful, helpful, and fun, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. We highly recommend this place. A big thank you to Ranga and Fouzan for making our visit so memorable! For muslim travelers, they have halal options.

The outside facade had a vintage car parked, and decor was beautiful, so we decided to walk-in. The team was welcoming and made some great food suggestions. We tried pasta in Sri Lankan style, which turned out surprisingly amazing. We even got a nice salad with it to cool our taste buds.

We had an amazing experience at Pedlar’s Inn cafe today. We ordered the grilled prawn and the Sri Lankan curry with jumbo prawns, the staff was super friendly and nice, they showed me how to eat the curry properly as I am not a local and they assisted my friend with making her food choice as she did not want something spicy. We got a complimentary king coconut with the curry, and curd with honey after to help with the spice and to emmerse us into the complete experience of eating curry in Sri Lanka, the servers were all cheerful, helpful and fun. They even taught us a few words to say in Sri Lanka like thank you and goodnight!! AMAZING experience, very highly recommended for travelers as well as anyone who wants a chill funn experience. Side note: Pedlar’s Inn Gelato across the street were very helpful when we encountered an issue with our tuktuk and let us sit there an wait until the issue was solved.

The owners are extremely polite and warm. The icecreams are great here. All the icecreams are homemade and delicious as well. The place takes you back 15 years but its a good kinda feeling. Would recommend to all the ice cream lovers.

We went to this place to buy a few posters for our villa. We wanted a map poster, which collection is located on the second floor. But the music there was so loud, we couldn’t even talk to each other. It was super uncomfortable. When we asked to turn the music down for a while, the attendant refused to do it having said her boss would come soon and she likes the music loud. We were the only customers in the store at that moment. Very disappointing service. We left without buying anything and went to a different poster store.

Great place to buy some unique prints and postcards! Bought a selection of postcards to remember as souvenirs and really reasonably priced. The shop also had an advertisement for Pineapple Press which gave us some great recommendations for the rest of our stay in Sri Lanka.

It has a cafe which is excellent. Great brunch-style food and drinks. We went there twice. Loved the atmosphere and staff. We also bought items at the shop.

It was a key point for artillery and military operations, designed to protect against naval threats. This is one of the prominent bastions located in the Galle Fort, Sri Lanka. Like other bastions in the fort, it was originally constructed by the Portuguese and later expanded and fortified by the Dutch during their rule.

Another minor bastion is seen on the exploratory map of Galle Fort which was drawn by chief engineer Reimer in 1790. It is recorded that there was a windmill erected here to draw water which filled tanks with sea water to supply carts which went through the roads of the fort spraying sea water to keep the town dust free and cool.

These people will give you Attention, Care and Love I am a CEO of a Multinational company and Ambassador member @ Marriott Bonvoy. I am staying in hotels more than 300 nights per year, but I am writing few reviews. This resort deserves one. Even I have a long experience in hotels, these people exceeding my expectation. Since we (my me and my family) entered to the hotel, the GM Mano was waiting for us. We have been invited to the lounge and have been offered a special drink, while he was giving us his time and attention and told us the details we need related to our stay and activities. We had 2 birthdays to celebrate, the first one has been offered by the hotel (they embarrassed us by doing that), they prepared a special table and decoration where we had our first dinner in the hotel. The second one they prepared another special table on the beach and made a lot of effort to make it perfect. This special attention, we received from all team members and from everywhere. From the GM, F&B manager, front office Manager... etc. and it accompany us until the last minutes of our stay. Mano the GM shows leadership with excellence in everything he was doing. Always active in the field noticing and interacting. Being the example to follow is always the best way to train people. After these 5 amazing days where we felt the attention, care and love, we moved to Weligama Bay Marriott Resort and it was a completely different experience. The contrast and difference between these 2 resorts are lessons for all people and all businesses. The difference between abondance mentality and scarcity mentality. In Marriott Resort, they were open for business since we stepped in. I will write another review for sure.

This bastion is named after the Roman God Aurora. It is believed that it was so named because it is the point in Galle Fort from which one could get the best view of sunrise. By 1760, 6 canons had been installed here.

one of the places where ambiente, service personel and food such exceeds your standards. tucked into a beautiful garden, this place really was all encompassing. we went 2x in a row and it did not disappoint! fresh pasta, fresh desserts, the most refreshing drinks. overall a very thoughtful menu. but the best part was really the staff! we were taken care of by thushara and krishan and they did not leave a single wish unfulfilled. we would happily go back here and can only recommend!

Came here for dinner on our first night as recommended by our driver and so glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious and really well priced, especially the crab curry. We loved the cocktails too! The place is really nicely decorated with a great atmosphere and our waiter Hasintha was so lovely and attentive. I would highly recommend this place for a perfect evening out.

Had some great cocktails. 5/5 Food was excellent! We had the butter chicken which was really nice! The fettucini was the star of the show. Though it was a vegetarian dish, I as a meat lover was thoroughly impressed. The fried chicken burger was not what we expected. It was crumb fried rather than batter fried, so would not recommend to anyone with a craving for fried chicken burgers. And of course the service was exceptional. Thushara was super attentive, had an eye for the little details which usually go unnoticed. Would come back any day!

This place was class! A very elegant restobar with a luxurious ambiance — yet the prices were quite comparable to other venues. The drinks were gorgeous and delicious, and the service was truly top-notch. We had several dietary requirements, and the team was happy to help us navigate the menu with care and professionalism. We even forgot a few things behind, and when we came back days later, they had kept them safe for us. Exceptional service all around!

We just came for dinner. Very good food and drinks in a great location and in addition, for a very good price as well! Jeremy our waiter was super attentive, friendly and knowledgeable, he could even explain not just ingredients but process of the food and special cocktails, my favorite "Bombay Bliss"! 100% recommended!!!

Picked this place based on aesthetics from walking around Fort Galle all arvo. Chatted to my hotel and they agreed it would be a good spot for dinner. The courtyard is a really nice vibe and the cocktails are definitely the star here. Recommend the "Drunken Lankan". Food was pretty good as well and the service was excellent; my waiter knew when to appear and when to leave me be which was appreicated. 3 cocktails, entree, main and dessert was 15,000 LKR which felt like good value.

Great boutique hotel with a unique history in the heart of the old Galle Fort. We got to stay in the Headmasters room which was charmingly quirky. A great place to base ourselves as we spent two days exploring the entire UNESCO World Heritage site. Two things to improve though, the WiFi was a little unreliable and there were not many vegan options for breakfast. However the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly.

Stunning hotel. The entire stay was just beautiful. My most memorable luxury touch was when I didn’t have my own toothpaste (apparently they weren’t in the habit of placing dental kits) and I asked them in the afternoon (there was none in the property), I went out shopping and just at the right moment as I was about to enter my room, they had one tube bought & hand-delivered. Service was amazing and discreet. 11/10. The property is just sleek and minimal (in a good and tasteful way). Had one cocktail by the pool (it was cucumber something?) it was good but not refined (I had to spit out the little bits in the drink). The breakfast hoppers was stunning & delicious. My old guilty regret is that I let my friends from SL pick my luggage up to the car while I was preoccupied. Missed opportunity to thank FOH with a tip.

Gorgeous space and lovely little pool. It’s obviously in an old printers so… the walls are paper thin, the drains don’t drain, and charged me 110USD to get a little laundry done! Not a nice touch at all.

Unfortunately this isn't going to be a pleasant review... This is only about the restaurant of this hotel in case anyone is interested in going. We went to this restaurant/hote for a breakfast. For the blandest and most Spartan poached eggs in the photo (and a mediocre omelette) and two juices, we paid over 35 euros (13.500 or similar Sri Lankan rupees) In comparison, right after that we went to a super nice beach club, stayed all day, ate and drank good food and drinks while enjoying the beach, and paid the same amount. This was by far the most expensive and least satisfying food I had in my entire trip in Sri Lanka. I feel unlucky to have made this mistake.

We visited coconut sambol a few years ago when it was just starting out. We were so happy to see that the restaurant had expanded. The food is delicious, the staff are so helpful and the ginger beer (and shakes) are amazing. Still such good value for money!! Your expansion is very much deserved!!

Delicious Sri Lankan meals with Ginger Beer being the cherry on top. Felt it was a little overpriced 2350 LKR for buffet meals & 850 LKR for Ginger Beer but the vibe overall is great. Definitely a must try once.

This humble buffet restaurant has simply the best curries I have tasted in Sri Lanka. Fresh ingredients and inventive combinations of flavors are so, so good. We were there with our one-year-old, and the staff couldn’t have been kinder—they welcomed us with genuine warmth and made sure our little one was completely comfortable. That level of care, combined with the top-tier food and welcoming atmosphere, makes Coconut Sambol stand out from the rest.

The architecture and interiors of Amangalla are something special. The property is rich in history, with antique furniture, wide verandas, high ceilings, and well-preserved colonial touches that transport you back in time. The atmosphere is peaceful and refined, making it a perfect getaway spot right in the heart of the bustling Galle Fort. We spent a relaxing afternoon by the serene pool and enjoyed a delicious meal at the restaurant. The food was outstanding fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The traditional high tea was also a highlight, served on the veranda with views of the charming surroundings. One thing to note for future visitors is that Amangalla does not have its own dedicated parking facility. Since the hotel is located within the narrow streets of the Galle Fort, guests arriving by car may need to park a short distance away and walk to the property. While this wasn’t a major issue for us, it’s something to be aware of if you’re traveling with luggage or require easier access. That said, Amangalla remains one of the finest heritage hotels in Sri Lanka a perfect blend of history, elegance, and comfort. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Galle, whether for leisure or to host special guests. Despite the lack of parking, the overall experience is exceptional and well worth it.

Had a wonderful afternoon tea there yesterday. Cakes and savouries were delicious. My only gripe is it would have been nice to have the teapot refilled. We had to ask and were charged. Nevertheless, it was a great experience e.

This is simply the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in anywhere. The staff were exceptional. It’s a serene oasis, the food and drink is amazing and the rooms and facilities were outstanding. Dammika is truly a wonderful member of staff. I do not have enough good things to say about this place.

My wife and I just spent three nights at the Amangalla. It was everything we were hoping for and more. The service was absolutely perfect and the grounds were beautiful. It was the perfect end to our vacation in Sri Lanka.

We had lunch on the Veranda of the Dining Room last Sunday Oct 12th, service was good and the food wasn’t bad at all, prices were in line with the Aman Hotels and Resorts hype. The total was US$ 182 for the 4 of us without alcohol. Good experience dining there.

Nice, quiet and refined hotel in an ancient Dutch mansion from the XVIIth century. The place has around 11 rooms on the courtyard where there is a small garden and a pool. The service is of high quality, the team will take care of you. Rooms have kept the original architecture, with some rooms having a very heightened ceiling. Rooms are decorated with care, bathrooms are qualitative.

Galle Fort Hotel is one of my favourite stays. A beautiful heritage property with a calming and relaxing vibe. The staff were warm and attentive, adding to the overall charm. If you’re visiting Galle city, this is definitely the place to stay.

Wow! Galle Fort Hotel was everything we wanted and more. Our room-ACH- had such interesting features including a circular staircase to a loft with a second bed. The master four poster bed was comfortable and firm. And the bathroom was spacious and modern. Fresh drinking water is supplied in the room along with a nice French press for coffee and kettle with a nice selection of tea. The breakfast area charmingly overlooks the courtyard and quaintly tiled pool. The breakfasts were delicious and the service was excellent. We can’t wait to come back and stay here again!

It's an exceptional property with warm service, without being overbearing. Excellent breakfasts, especially the Sri Lankan breakfast. Architectural details are wonderful. A great environment to spend a few days. Special thanks to Kalpani who went out of her way to help extend our stay.

This is unexpected gourmet experience of the most precious and rare quality. I had no idea Galle Fort harbored such excellent restaurants. The ambience and staff are unrivaled, everyone goes above and beyond, be that the servers or management themselves, to make sure you have an unforgettable experience. The music and decor transported me. As for the food, the lobster pasta was so subtly delicious, it’s hard to believe this is in Sri Lanka. Absolute must visit if you’re in the fort.

Beautiful restaurant with friendly owners. Great range of seafood and meat pasta dishes. Incredible sorbet. Quintessential flavours of Italy and Sri Lanka working hand in hand. Great ambience in the upstairs air conditioned. Wine list looks excellent with food and drink presented beautifully. Perhaps a little pricey for lunch time, but right in the heart of Galle Fort.

Best Italian food outside of Italy. Living in Australia for the past 10 years and the Italian food I’ve tried in Australia from so called authentic Italian restaurants don’t even compare to the amazing food I’ve had today with my family (Italian/Aussie and Sri Lankan) here in Galle. Highly recommend it if you want to try real Italian cuisine. Keep up the amazing work. Will be back on our next trip to Sri Lanka.

We had a delicious meal and ordered a bottle of wine and had excellent wine service. We shared all three plates and took our time. Tartar, gnocchi with clams (no shells), chicken. I would have preferred to have spaghetti with the clams, but the gnocchi were delicately soft and home made. A mistake that we find some restaurants try to make their own spaghetti and they are simply not good, so I appreciate that they made gnocchi instead.

Amazing Napoletano pizzas! Some of the best I’ve had. Prices are reasonable. Service is good and so is the ambiance despite being a small place. Highly recommend.

A very wise friend who was also my dinner companion that evening said, “When you travel, you seek exceptional experiences. You plan, you research, you tick off places from glossy lists only to realise that most are simply good. Some impress with food, others with service or setting, but only once in a while do you stumble upon something truly special”. We found Aqua Forte, a restaurant that quietly graces every “recommended” list but deserves to top them all. White tablecloths, elegant stemware, and Italian pop set the perfect tone. We began with a margarita, an Aperol spritz, and a Negroni. Each flawlessly balanced. Then came prosciutto with sous-vide papaya and beef tartare with hazelnut crema dishes that revealed finesse, restraint, and deep understanding of flavour. For mains, we ordered Tagliatelle al Ragù Bolognese, slow-cooked and soulful; Pollo alla Valdostana, smooth, comforting, and elegant; and Polpo alla Piastra, tender, balanced, and quietly extraordinary. Desserts kept the magic alive, a chocolate almond flour cake, tiramisu, and hazelnut gelato. All outstanding! Aqua Forte isn’t just another restaurant; it’s a rare find. Like my very wise friend said, “places like this are a reminder of why we travel, and what true perfection tastes like”.

Not to many steps up to the temple and well worth a visit. Cist 500 Rupees oer person to enter tge temple. Cafe was closed as this as the low season.

Great place to visit to see historical background of Sri lanka with just few kilometers away from Galle town. Temple is easy to find on the map. There’s bit of stairs to climb to reach the historical cave temple. It’s a very calm and peaceful place there to worship and look around. Sad to see the paintings are not restored properly but theres a lot of paintings are in good condition as well. The temple has the tallest bronze Buddha statue found in sri lanka.

Impressive. Tickets are already 1,000 rupees per person. Definitely worth a visit — they even gave us a tour and told us about the temple.

Very beautiful, calm and peaceful place. Entrance 1000 lkr for two adults and a baby. Interesting small excursion and we saw a varan, two monkey and fed dogs. I recommend this place! It impressed. I feel there very comfortable.

Yatagala Rajamaha Viharaya is a temple of ancient value in a very quiet environment. It has ancient caves and stone carved Buddha statues. There is a stone staircase to climb up. It is advisable to wear socks if you go in the midday cause the stones are hot. It is a great place for you to be free. I went there in a public holiday. So its some crowded, but don't worry u can enjoy ur freedom. If you go there, I think morning or evening is the best time.

Yatagala Raja Maha Viharaya is a historic Buddhist temple located in the southern part of Sri Lanka, near Galle. Dating back over 2,000 years, the temple is known for its ancient architecture, serene environment, and rich cultural heritage. The temple houses a large reclining Buddha statue and features impressive rock carvings, offering visitors a peaceful and spiritual experience. It remains an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists and is a significant landmark in Sri Lanka's religious history.

My visit to this store was deeply unsatisfactory. The staff was very rude with the kid, with an unwelcoming attitude, which made the entire experience unpleasant. Please take steps to improve the store’s customer service standards.

This shop is GORGEOUS. I couldn't help myself and nearly had to be pulled out. Every little piece is well curated, mixing ancient artifacts with new beautiful items. They carry clothing, shoes, figurines, rugs, jewelry, soaps and much more. There's even a super cute coffee shop in the rear.

Amazing space, can't miss

You must go through the store who has the same name of the café. Very nice and sweet café. So nice and friendly stuffs! We drink an Americano coffee and an Vietnamese ice coffee and eat homemade coconut cake with dates. All together for 1150 LKR, round about 6 €. All of this are so delicious! :) I recommend this Café!!!

This place was so beautiful. Neat and clean. The statue of Hanuman holds a very special place in ancient mythology. Overall a must visit.

A nice place with a Japanese pansala and a great view of the jungle beach. Have a boat ride during season time. Have parking places and small shops on the way.

Barefoot is a well-known stop in Colombo for those looking for high-quality textiles, handmade crafts, and art pieces. The store itself is beautifully curated, with vibrant colors, a thoughtful layout, and a wide range of items from handwoven fabrics to stationery and home decor. While we did end up purchasing a few items, the overall experience didn’t quite live up to the expectations we had—especially considering the reputation of Sri Lankan hospitality. Service was just okay. Staff were present but not particularly attentive or eager to help, which stood out given how warm and accommodating most places in Sri Lanka tend to be. One particular moment that stood out was when we saw a framed print we really liked. Unfortunately, that specific image wasn’t available as a separate print, and rather than offering to remove the print from the frame for purchase or provide an alternative solution, the staff simply said it wasn’t available. It felt like a missed opportunity for better customer service. Also, be aware that prices here are more aligned with Western standards—definitely American pricing, not local. You’re paying for design and branding. In summary: a visually lovely place to shop, but the service lacked the warmth and flexibility we’ve come to associate with Sri Lanka.

Great ambience. Relaxing and calm. Has so many eye catching objects and a nice juice bar. They also have a book shelf for a bit of light reading. The food is aimed at health. But the taste is average. Tried the Pho Noodpes and the prawn thai curry with rice. Drinks range is good. Has a nice Koi pond.

Cool hidden gem behind a lifestyle store with a small but interesting menu. We had the slow roasted tomato and avocado toast which had a really good flavor to it and the stuffed pepper with Marsala chickpeas which was a perfect marriage between Italian and Indian culinary traditions. Ambiance is nice and service is good, even providing every table with free fresh drinking water (rare in Sri Lanka). Prices are fair (1000ish per dish).

This little nook tucked away behind a store on Pedlars Street is a superb cozy location for a meal. Ordered a vegetarian spread and was not disappointed. From the presentation to the quality of taste everything was superb. Topped the meal off with a heavenly cheesecake. They have Thambili and Kombucha for the health conscious. The ambiance is eclectic and airy. The only caveat is be prepared to have cash for you transaction, they don't accept credit cards.

Nice place to have coffee or food in Galle. The best espresso in Sri Lanka I had for 2 weeks. The carrot cake is really tasty. There are no plastic straws and stuff like that, so I love the ecological vibe. Really healthy stuff too. All good around us looked delicious! Would come back for food if I hadn’t eaten shortly before.

Poonie’s Kitchen definitely did not disappoint. We had just done a quick food search on Google Maps and the images of the food here looked amazing. After a quick stroll and following the sign that leads you through a lovely clothing and jewellery store you end up in a tranquil open air courtyard with a fish pond and banana palms surrounding you. We ordered two Thali Salad’s (I added tuna steak for an extra 500LKR) and after a short wait they appeared. Wow the presentation of these was spectacular. After snapping a few quick pics we dug in. The flavours were so individual and delicious not to mention the tuna which was cooked superbly (not over cooked and dry like most places). Overall the presentation, flavour and size of the meal was outstanding and for food in the area of Galle I think it deserved ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ even though it’s not exactly local cuisine and the prices are more so around $900-1400LKR it’s still cheap in my eyes for the quality.

A small restaurant in the courtyard surrounding offering delicious healthy food. To reach the restaurant area, you will go through a health store, clothing store, then there it is. Delicious garden bowl with honey, tumeric dressing. The sandwich also looks good, it comes with crispy banana chips. The courtyard area is so warm and chic.

The people who run this shop are really helpful, friendly and professional. I really liked their handloom bedspreads but as it was our first stop I thought I'd probably see more during our holiday and that I'd wait to buy one. I looked in a lot of places but didn't find anything close so decided to see if I could purchase online and have it shipped. Pubudu is the manager and he responded to messenger chats immediately every time. He took photos of the bedspreads, I chose one, he sent through an invoice, then he arranged a courier to deliver at our last hotel in Negombo, three days before we were due to check in. The courier called me on whatsapp when he got there, and I had already been in contact with the hotel staff. So I now have a beautiful Sri Lankan bedspread and the process couldn't have been easier! Thank you Pubudu I appreciate it!

KK Boutique is a stylish and well-curated shop that definitely stands out for its aesthetic and unique selection of clothing, accessories, and home goods. The vibe is modern and trendy, and it’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into the presentation and branding of the space. It’s the kind of place you walk into and instantly feel like you’ve stepped into a boutique you’d find in a major U.S. city or European shopping district. That said, be prepared for American prices — this is not a shop geared toward local pricing. While the items are well-made and visually appealing, most are definitely overpriced, especially when compared to similar offerings found elsewhere in Sri Lanka. You’re largely paying for the boutique experience and imported feel rather than true value. Customer service was just okay — not bad, but not particularly warm or attentive either. In a country known for its exceptional hospitality, this felt a bit underwhelming. There wasn’t much effort to engage or assist unless we initiated it. In short, KK Boutique is worth a look if you’re into design-forward shopping and don’t mind paying a premium. Just go in knowing that it’s more about style and branding than bargains or standout service.

Amazing shop with amazing staff. They even made me my own jumpsuit with pockets upstairs in 30 mins. Feels so special to have your own dress made for you that noone has ever even tried on.

Collective artists showcased were inspirational. Rather than seeking out talent, being connected with professional Sri Lankan artists that have been featured nationally and internationally was the perfect take home from this trip. Great vibe. Not pushy, prices marked. Their team helped us honestly and offered to connect us to conversations with the artists willing to negotiate for purchasing multiple pieces, So we secured 4 original pieces. Authenticity certificates received, paintings delivered to our hotel within a day with descriptions of the artists. I fell for their in house designed silk dresses, a tailor came and fitted me, whilst strolling through the street it was custom tailored within the hour. Love you guys. Thank you so much for bringing me confidence, connection to local artists & the confidence to buy more works online ongoing. Excellent operators.

A Hidden Gem in Galle – KK Boutique KK Boutique is one of my favorite shops in Galle—a beautifully curated space where you can find everything from elegant homeware to stylish clothing. I found some beautiful plates that now brighten up my home, and also picked up a few lovely dresses and jackets, all of which feel unique and carefully chosen. What makes the experience even more special is the warm and friendly staff. Everyone is welcoming, but I especially want to mention Pubudu, who was incredibly kind and helpful during my visit. It’s rare to find such genuine service, and it made my shopping experience truly memorable. Whether you’re looking for something special or simply want to enjoy a beautifully arranged shop, KK Boutique is a place you’ll want to come back to.

Be aware of the prices! Ask before you buy. I didn’t and bought a small dress for €75. The dress is cute but not worth that amount. There are no price tags on the clothes so was a surprise when paying. Didn’t do the conversion until walking out. Rookie mistake Shop is beautiful, staff friendly but still feels a bit like a rip off.

Great gift shop with high quality, locally-produced products for reasonable prices. Loved the note books/postcards, made of 🐘 dung-paper and the tooth sticks made out of cinnamon. And you get a nice paper bag (no plastic policy).

Bought some gemstones from here and I’m really pleased with them. The seller was friendly and patient, not pushy at all unlike other places and clearly knew his stuff. I would recommend buying your gems here :)

There are an abundance of jewelry firms in Fort Galle, but nowhere could I find the crystals I needed in terms of size, cut quality and reasonable price. But I'm lucky! Near the lighthouse I went to the ORCHID HOUSE store. There, a professional manager immediately understands what is needed, clearly selects the stones - and EVERYTHING is there!!! I found excellent quality products and ordered three rings! They managed to make them in the shortest possible time and three days later they brought me directly to a hotel in another city! Excellent quality and true to size! With full responsibility and pleasure I can recommend ORCHID HOUSE! Great impressions about the company and the country with such people!
