Coombe Hill is a picturesque grassy peak that offers stunning views of the Aylesbury Vale and Chequers Court, the Prime Minister's country retreat. It stands as the highest point in the Chiltern Hills at 852 feet above sea level. The area provides various walking trails suitable for families, including a gentle 40-minute circular stroll and longer routes through woodlands.
I had the most wonderful evening at Coombe Hill with my friends who are all Aylesbury locals and recommended the site for our picnic. Safe to say, I was blown away by just how jaw-dropping the views are at the top. The sunset we watched was one of the best I’ve ever seen as you can see for several miles in the distance. It was nice and peaceful too, with barely any other people present. I look forward to coming back again soon 🫶

Great walk up to the boer monument from Tring although views impacted by HS2 scarring and detour via a new bridge. If u ignore the engineering works it’s spectacular.
D A — Google review
It’s an incredible place for hiking with some breathtaking views. You can do a number of circular hikes in this area - from a short to medium long ones, starting from the train station. Cattle wandering around is just another good reason to come and enjoy the nature.
Nataliia S — Google review
Have been to Coombe Hill several times during the summer for picnics from London, dressing up and generally walking around taking photos.
Andrew T — Google review
Stunning local walk. Love coming here for an afternoon hike or when I’m training for steeper hikes. Stunning. Highly recommended. Be wary that the hill is steep and can be slippery after rain.
Matt W — Google review
A beautiful walk. The views are breath taking, you can see for miles on a clear day. And the Monument is really cool to see in person.
James B — Google review
Easy parking with plenty of spaces. Just make sure you search for the national trust car park, if you type in Coombe hill it will send you to an area with no vehicular parking or access. Its an easy walk to the monument. Perfect for kids or elderly folk to see the views. This place is perfect when you want the maximum nature mental health boost with the minimum effort. There are also plenty of National Trust trials and routes if you are up for longer walks around the area.
Betcog — Google review
Amazing view just a short walk from the car park. The circular route has a decent path that’s suitable for a buggy for the most parts. The only downside is the car park is too small and one has to wait or get into a fist fight with chavs to secure a space.

Nature & Parks
Park
Black Park Country Park is a sprawling 530-acre expanse of lush woodlands, heathlands, and open spaces in South Buckinghamshire. It offers 10 miles of well-surfaced paths for leisurely walks and family playtime. The park features an adventure course with zip wires and rope bridges, making it an exciting destination for more adventurous visitors. Additionally, there are family-friendly attractions such as the Go Ape Tree Top Adventure, Tree Top Junior, and Segways.
This park is absolutely beautiful, especially on a sunny day! The lush trees provide plenty of shade, and the open meadows in between add a nice contrast, making it a perfect spot to relax. Whether you’re looking to take a peaceful walk, have a picnic, or just enjoy nature, this place has a little bit of everything. It’s also a dream for photography lovers—the combination of greenery, sunlight, and open spaces makes for some fantastic shots. And if you have a dog, they’re going to love it here! Plenty of space to run around and explore. Definitely a place worth visiting if you’re looking for a calm escape from the city!
Leo J — Google review
Lovely quiet stroll around the lake and in the woods. Super for dogs. Although there's a warning for blue green algae my dogs have never become ill there. Just be aware. The water was clear today.
Gemore J — Google review
Loved Black Park near Slough! The 6km circular walk through trees was perfect for escaping the heat. The lake is beautiful, and there's a lovely restaurant nearby. It's dog-friendly too - dogs had a blast fetching balls in the lake! Parking is chargeable (£5 for 3hrs, £6 all-day). Great spot for families and nature lovers. Can't wait to go back!
Vikram R — Google review
Decent parking, access to go ape and other paid activities (mini 4x4 etc). Two on site restaurants a large lake and often activities on (we had a Dino walk). The actual activity was pretty poor and annoyingly the start point is a fair trek from the car park and wasn't clear that is where you had to start.
Martyn W — Google review
Black Park really feels like a hidden gem in the suburbs — the size is generous (over 500 acres of woodland, heath and open space) , so there’s plenty of room to roam without feeling too crowded. The walking trails around the lake are peaceful and scenic — there’s a 3.4 km circular route that shows off the lake and the woods beautifully. The park is well maintained, and you’ll notice wildlife and birdlife if you meander off the beaten path. There’s a good-sized car park but it can fill up on busy days, so arriving early is wise. As for costs and extras: parking isn’t free — it can run up to about £5.70 depending on time and demand, payable by card, cash or via an app (Ringo) . If you’re after a big adrenaline fix, Go Ape Black Park is a highlight: their Treetop Challenge is one of the pricier options, with other levels like Treetop Adventure and Nets Adventure more family-friendly. Reviews say it’s well run, but do expect to pay for the thrill. For food, the Lakeside Café (on-site) is a good go-to for light meals or snacks mid-walk. Beyond that your best bet is to bring a picnic or plan something in nearby Slough.
Nicholas M — Google review
A beautiful and relaxing place away from town noise. A wonderful little lake to walk around, toilets onsite although I didnt use them so cant say how clean they were. You can take your dog with you. Car park a little pricey at £5-£6 depending on length of stay. A nice family outing.
Just S — Google review
A truly serene and beautifully manicured park. It also has ropes courses (I think called go apes in the UK). The lake was perfect for a stroll or two around. I can’t wait to come back.
Brandon N — Google review
I visited Black Country Park this past Sunday morning to try the Go Ape Treetop Challenge, and it completely exceeded my expectations. My young cousin and I had an amazing time navigating the treetop obstacles, ziplines, and rope courses. The layout provided just the right balance of challenge and fun for all skill levels. I’d especially like to thank Abdul, our instructor, for his excellent guidance. He was patient, knowledgeable, and made sure we understood all safety procedures clearly. His supportive presence throughout the course gave us extra confidence to push ourselves. While £85 for two people may seem steep at first glance, the experience was absolutely worth it. The park itself is beautifully maintained, with peaceful woodland surroundings that make you forget you’re still in London. My cousin hasn’t stopped talking about our adventure, and I’d wholeheartedly recommend Go Ape to anyone looking for an exciting outdoor activity. It’s perfect for families, friends, or even team-building outings. Tip: Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and book ahead as sessions tend to sell out quickly!

Wendover Woods is a stunning expanse of around 800 acres, showcasing a beautiful blend of coniferous and broadleaf trees, rolling hills, and remnants of Iron Age settlements. This enchanting woodland is perfect for nature lovers and families alike, offering an impressive selection of trails to explore. Whether you prefer the short yet scenic Hilltop Trail or the more challenging Forest Fitness Trail, there’s something for everyone.
Great place to visit full of nice walks including accessible walks for wheelchairs and push chairs. Parking a touch expensive at £7 for up to 4 hours however worthwhile as the facilities are well kept.
Ben W — Google review
Don’t bother visiting place is awfully managed extremely overpriced and they hate bikes. Shut down Aston hill and now moaning at riders for not having anywhere to ride utter stupidity and ignorance. Bikers will stop making the illegal and unsafe trails when Aston hill reopens
Alex B — Google review
On the whole a good place to visit, with a large cafe & toilet block. However, the car parking prices (IMO) are excessive...
Milchman — Google review
Beautiful setting and walks but the parking costs are atrocious - they charged me £8 on a Sunday for 3 hours and 10 mins of parking!! Just to walk around the woods, taking the absolute piss
Joseyposey93 — Google review
Walked my dog around the woods for some mental health. 1 hour 4 minutes parking £4!! 50p per 15 minutes for the first hour, then 50p per minute after that. Shocking, i think it should be charged per 15 minutes.

Fabulous place! I was amazed on the size, architecture and furnishings as well as the collections inside. The surrounding are is also beautiful and it’s gardens were nice too. It’s easily accessible and also offer bus ride to the house from the car park. Staff were very friendly and everything was clean and top notch. I would highly recommend a visit as there’s a lot to see. Might recommend spending a few hours to truly appreciate all of that is to see.

Really enjoyable visit to this stately home although it was built as a museum to house the possessions of the Rothschild family. Fantastic collection of art works, ceramics, tapestries and furniture and grounds. Entry needs to be pre-booked via their website there is a long walk 20 to 30 minutes from the car park to the house or you can book a shuttle bus for £2.50 return, free if you’re a blue badge holder.
Steve G — Google review
Easy to find with large ticket office and excellent parking capacity inc disabled with a shuttle bus to the house and stables. Property has an interesting history and easy to walk through the various rooms. Large gardens for outdoor walking. Plenty of food and drink available. House has timed tickets available online or at the ticket office on arrival. Staff friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

Lovely day out, and very beautiful architecture. Lots of walking, if you like that sort of thing, which we do! The Manor's history is also fascinating. We enjoyed it here. The gardens are particularly beautiful.

We had a great family day out here, the house is beautiful and full of amazing artifacts, and all manner of priceless treasures. I enjoyed the Solomon's temple exhibit, interesting to see how it may have looked in it's original form. The grounds looked incredible with the autumn colours, and walking around a finding little hidden details was interesting. The outdoor cafe next to the gift shop had lovely, tasty food and drinks available. The gift shop was very pleasant aswell. Every interaction we had with the people working/volunteering there was very positive. Thankyou for a great time.

Beautifully kept manor. Lovely to walk around. Kids can run free and have a look at the birds. Kids also have a nice playground to go in. The whole place is pushchair friendly. There is a steep slope down to the play area and stables bit. The shuttle bus is great if you don’t like too much walking. Car park was spacious. Great day!

Absolutely spectacular & if you are a national trust fan then this one is an absolute must. You could easily spend a full day here as unfortunately we ran out of time to explore the grounds & took so long in the house as so much to see 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

A superb place and grounds with superb staff. The Manor is loaded with treasures with all information available on display in each room on all three floors. It’s fascinating to see how well preserved the artefacts are regardless of their age. The grounds are equally spectacular and extremely well tended gardens and paths for the viewer’s delight.

Very beautiful views over the fields. You can see Pitstone Windmill from the peak. It's not a very long walk from the car park but it's still quite steep. The parking area also occasionally has a coffee stand which is cool.

Chiltern Open Air Museum offers a unique experience of stepping back in time with its collection of over 30 reconstructed historic buildings from different periods of British history. Visitors can explore an Iron Age roundhouse, a Victorian toll house, a blacksmith's shop, and even a Second World War Nissen hut. The museum also features a working traditional farm and hosts various events throughout the year. While some buildings may be closed for maintenance during visits, the overall experience is impressive and brings history to life.
A lovely day out for families! The museum offers a mix of fun and history—complete with friendly animals, a great playground, and even live gladiator fights that kids (and adults!) will love. The staff and volunteers were amazing—super friendly, helpful, and clearly passionate about what they do. Highly recommend for a relaxed and engaging family experience. Rating: 5/5
Theea — Google review
This is a fascinating place to visit with old buildings from the local area rescued and rebuilt here. The round house is a reconstruction rather than a rebuild! Most houses are set in the era it came from. Really shows how material we are today with most of us having far too many things. Well worth going on a themed weekend - we went on a Middle Ages themed weekend. Great fun with music, dancing and jousting. We took a wheelchair with us but borrowed one of theirs. The paths can be challenging even with their wheelchair and some places are really inaccessible. Great children’s play area and toilets are dotted around the site. Do not think you are lost when driving to the museum. Access is on a very small, winding, country road which is at times single track. Well worth the effort though.
Steve G — Google review
This museum is doing a valuable job of preserving a wide variety of industrial and residential buildings from the local area. There's something for everyone from the Iron Age and 19th century agricultural buildings through the Second World War to a (relatively) modern prefab. Even the toilets date from the early 20th century (but with modern touches). The displays in the buildings are carefully curated and the volunteers are happy to share their knowledge and answer your questions.
Richard L — Google review
We spent 5 hours here and could have spent more. Fascinating view of the history of Bucks brought to a single location. Ideally suited to a drier day, you walk between the houses. Inside you see (and smell) a snapshot of history.
Ian R — Google review
Father's Day outing courtesy of daughter/granddaughters. I hadn't been for years and was worried about my mobility problems, but I needn't have been. It was a real pleasure to pootle about at a leisurely place through the sylvan walks and trails, to explore the various historic buildings and exhibits, to watch demonstrations and to take part in activities, (including playing quoits and skittles in the old church hall and having a go at candle-making with the tutelage of a charming octegenarian volunteer) and to bore the children witless with nostalgic tales of yore. A band of retirees happened to be raising money for charity on the day, playing Willie Nelson style country and western music on 'the green', which was both an incongruous accompaniment to our al fresco lunch and yet somehow charmingly quirky in this otherwise quintessentially English setting.
Ivan L — Google review
Each individual part of this property is not earth soaking, but as a whole it is a great day out, and not just for families - although a reasonable wooden playground, goats and plenty of room to run around does help that! The vibe is just after WW2. There is a cafe and a food trucks, several good toilet areas. A small pavilion opens as a plant and crafts shop when staff are available. When we were there the candle maker was present at the far end of the sure near the woodworking building. Most summer weekends host a historical event - Vikings, Napoleon's, world war cosplayers etc
Mike S — Google review
We visited this place because of the exhibition the longest yarn. We read about it and really wanted to see it. The exibit is great. I was impressed by all the knitting that was done. Unfortunately the rest of the museum isn't that interesting. Just a few old buildings, with hardly any information about it. The grounds and the buildings aren't very accessible. The footpaths are gravel and it makes it hard to move around with a wheelchair. Going uphill is a heavy task with a wheelchair. A lady in a golfcart past by and asked if we were doing all right. Well, no.... it was almost impossible to get uphill with the wheelchair. She told us that we should have been given a different wheelchair when we entered the museum. She kindly offered to help, but we were almost at the exit, so we declined. Some buildings have ramps but our wheelchair was to wide to get through the door. Conclusion. We really liked the exhibition of the longest yarn, but if you're in a wheelchair, don't expect to be able to see everything.

Nestled in the picturesque Buckinghamshire countryside, the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre is a delightful destination for train enthusiasts of all ages. Spanning 25 acres, this charming site features an impressive array of vintage steam and diesel locomotives dating back to the 19th century, all set against the backdrop of a beautifully recreated Victorian station. Families can enjoy rides on a miniature railway that winds through wooded areas and even includes a tunnel!
It was Father’s Day when we visited and my husband was in second heaven. He didn’t want to leave. Lots to see in the train museum, book shop and on the platform there was a historic bike display. Good food and a chance to go on a short ride on Thomas the Tank engine. What more could a train enthusiast need?

Visited to see Wightwick Hall running on the Steam weekend. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Lots of engines to see around the site. Visited the museum, lots to see in there. Had a ride on the miniature railway. The cafe was very nice for lunch. Had a very enjoyable day here and well worth the drive from Sussex.

Where do I start, First of all the day out is worth every penny, the staff and everyone were super friendly. We enjoyed a Thomas and Friends day here where we got to ride on 2 different steam trains (Thomas and Percy) and enjoy all Thomas activities from dancing shows to craft activities. The model train rides were also great fun and the kids had a blast. There is also a very reasonable priced cafe in the main centre with loads of train related toys for the kids to keep them busy. There even was a steam tractor-trailer ride which the kids loved. Will definitely be back again in the near future, Thanks Bucks Railway Centre

A fantastic museum, run and looked after by very friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and interesting volunteers. The full site is sizeable, with a huge amount of exhibits both inside and outside. For the best experience a visit on one of the steaming days is highly recommended, but the café and shop are open most days and are a delight in themselves.

Fantastic day out, great value for money. Museum opens at 1030 and first train departs at 11am. Steam train ride lasts around 17minutes but you can do it as many times as you like. Museum well laid out and informative. Cafe reasonably priced £6 for 2 hot drinks, £5 for two ice creams.

We have been coming to the Railway centre for many years and have watched it get better and better. It is a must for any transport enthusiasts and especially train fans of course. Lots to see and do for all ages. Loads of historic info for adults and older children and plenty to do for little ones as well. Miniature train rides are a great addition. Plenty of food and drink on offer especially on event days. We came back for Auto Fest which was a classic vehicle event. Loads of interesting cars and vehicles attended and there was Live music and morris dancers. Great day out for families and people who like nostalgic days out.

Led by Alan Turing, the team at Bletchley Park played a crucial role in developing techniques to decipher encrypted German messages, ultimately shortening the war by up to 2 years. This Victorian mansion turned museum offers an immersive experience into cryptography, technological innovation, and secret intelligence from that era.
What ca. you say? Incredible place where some incredible people worked long hours to help shorten WW2. So very informative, plenty to see. Can easily spend a day here, and the great thing is that your ticket is valid for 12 months so you can return any time within that period. If you’re a member of English Heritage then you can get money off your ticket too.

This is one amazing place, simply jammed with information on the incredible work done there during World War 2. One will learn that the workforce grew to about 9,000 persons from all walks of life, that about 75% were women, and that what one did there had to remain a secret for life. There is detail in the exhibits that will satisfy the most demanding historians, a comprehensive insight into the process of codebreaking, an excellent D-Day exhibit, a mansion to explore, changing exhibitions (“The Age of AI” is currently on) and lots of stuff for the kids to do. We took a free one hour walking tour around the site (wristbands available at the information desk) and gained some more context beyond what we read. Practical stuff: there is lots of free parking, tickets are about 10% cheaper when purchased online before the visit, getting from building to building requires some outside walking, there are toilets available throughout the site, and there is a cafeteria and snack bar onsite. Expect to spend 4+ hours.

This is an absolutely amazing site, full of history and stories. The site is lovely to walk around and be able to pop in and oit of the building, there are a range of activities to be done in and around the site. Despite the buildings being steeped in history, the team on site have made a large majority of the buildings wheelchair accessible, which is absolutely amazing and something I was worried about not being able to do. The cafe staff are friendly and the food of amazing quality. It's been amazing visit and I am looking forward to visiting again soon. *We were also joined by a special feline guest halfway through our day

Excellent museum to visit, very good & humorous tour guide - Robert - entertained and informed us for an hour in the heat of the afternoon - really brought the place to life. I paid the night before & the ticket allows unlimited further visits for 12 months. Loved the sound effects in the outside areas. Great ice cream 🍦 kiosk. A smartly presented and well thought out museum, recommended.

Turning a former wartime site into a museum is never going to be easy but with a great story to tell I felt it was all a bit of a muddle. You could spend the day here just to visit all the various locations and read some of the stories, but I suspect most people will find two or three hours enough. The house is well worth a visit but computer fans might do better at the adjacent National Museum of Computing.

This is one of those fantastic places that genuinely cares about its visitors. All staff we encountered were friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We bought tickets in advance and there was minimal wait time upon entering. We were even welcomed into the car park! We were provided with a map of the site, and advised that our ticket allowed us to return over the coming year. We booked a (free) tour with Ralph who brought entertainment as well as delivering key information in his talk. The site was clean, well maintained and welcoming. They have really gone above and beyond to ensure the experience can be enjoyed by all. There are ramps and lifts in place, as well as large print guides (free to use whilst onsite) and even braille guides. Everything is clearly signposted and accessible. It is incredible value for money. There are discreet donation points around the site, but it doesn't feel like you are being pressured into additional spending. The gift shop is reasonably priced and sells appropriate items. Overall, it seems like staff are proud to be there, which really made the visit enjoyable. Thank you!

After having heard so much about this place we finally made the long journey to visit. There was a barrier at the entrance, reminding one of the fact that this was once a secret military establishment. There is much to see over several buildings. We joined a guided walk which was useful with much information about this history of the site. The main museum is where the story of the code breakers is told and there is much to see and read related to this significant work done during the Second World War. It is significant to see how most of the work was done by women.

An amazing time in our countrys' history, remarkable work carried out by extraordinary people. We learnt a great deal more about the events that occurred there than we previously knew. Definitely worth visiting, as your entry tickets are valid for 12 months multiple visits.

National Trust - Cliveden offers luxurious accommodations in the form of plush rooms, suites, and cottages set on a lavish estate. The estate features various walking trails suitable for all ages and abilities, including family-friendly routes and more challenging paths with stunning views over the Thames. Visitors can tailor their walks to explore formal gardens, tree-lined avenues, or riverside woodland. Additionally, there are opportunities to tour the grand house on selected days and enjoy activities such as visiting the play den and maze.
Day trip to Cliveden to visit the gardens and enjoy a long walk through the woods and by the Thames with a friend. Saw lots of nature - red kites, deer, goslings, ducklings and a cormorant. Had a lovely rhubarb and rosemary scone at the Conservatory Cafe and loved the water gardens. Spent the whole day and still didn’t manage to see everything. The house wasn’t open to the public when we visited as it’s a hotel - would recommend checking National Trust website before visiting if you want to go inside. It’s very hilly climbing back to the house from the riverside but worth it for all the views.

Used our voucher from the paper so free entry! Helpful map so had a good walk around all the gardens. Walked down and along The Thames- beautiful. Several places for a coffee, cake or lunch. Watch out for Red Kites- they target picnic areas! Second hand book shop too! Lovely day.

A fantastic day out at Cliveden! We had a wonderful family day out at National Trust's Cliveden. It was a perfect escape from London. We loved strolling through the grounds, which provided much-needed shade on a hot day. The views were stunning, and the kids were delighted with their ice creams. A quick tip for visitors: Be sure to look for the insider car park to avoid a long walk to the main house. We also wished we had known about the boat rides in advance, so be sure to check that out if you visit! Highly recommend for a family day trip. The estate is stunning, we especially appreciated the beautiful, shady walking paths that made our strolls incredibly relaxing. We found a great spot for our packed lunch, which was a nice way to save a bit of money and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The views across the grounds were truly magnificent. The kids absolutely loved their ice creams, and I enjoyed a well-deserved coffee break.

What a wonderful state in England! One of the most beautiful places I've been to of its kind. It's not far away from London, but it's easily connected to motorways. During the spring and summer, it is a great park to walk through gardens and forest, so bring your sunblock, hat and comfortable shoes. I cannot imagine it during the winter but maybe that's also a wonderful experience. If you can, book your tickets in advance and arrive early in the morning, because it is a popular spot and the park lot is limited. You can bring your trolleys (if you need). It has many accessible ways. It's dog friendly, but it's your responsibility to keep the place clean. Bring as well your banquet with food and drinks to picnic, if you cannot, don't worry! You can buy them here. Please! Please! Please! 1. Take your rubbish with you. Shame on those who leave their mess. 2. Respect the queue line entering with your car. Yes, everybody wants to enjoy the day ASAP, but good manners are really appreciated living in a community.

Well-worth the annual national trust membership price if you are a local resident. Beautiful gardens to explore and spacious picnic areas for small to large groups. There is also a coffee shop near the car park and a bigger cafe/restaurant close to the main house. There’s a good size children’s play area and there are also frequent children oriented events during the year which the our young child loves. Don’t forget to walk down to the river and have a boat trip in the summer months!

Our local National Trust, we love it here! So many different areas to visit, the woodland, the water garden, long garden, the Thames river, the house, the list goes on! Reliable food options and decent parking if you get there earlier on or later in the day... Can get busy busy weekends or school hols.

Without doubt one of the best kept places I’ve visited in England. The area is vast and full of interesting walks, greenery, water garden, fountains, rose garden and lot more to explore. The public facilities are more than adequate and the staff are extremely helpful.

The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Buckinghamshire is a delightful spot for families, offering an array of exhibits featuring over 200 photos, manuscripts, and letters from the beloved author. Geared towards children aged 6 to 12, the museum provides hands-on activities and interactive experiences that bring Dahl's characters to life.
Great trip down memory lane. Loads of interactive craft, dressing up and games for the children. All very well kept and modern. Lots of facts and experiences about all the Roald Dahl books and the man himself. Indoor place for picnic. Story telling for the kids worth doing to. Nice gift shop.
Paul H — Google review
We had a great time at the Roald Dahl Museum. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The museum isn't huge but had lots of fun things to keep the kids entertained. We listened to a story and did the Easter egg hunt which was a lovely addition! The exhibits were interesting and child friendly, though it would be nice to have a few more activities that younger visitors would understand and could introduce them to the world of story writing. The craft room was fab, though it was such a shame that other visitors were so inconsiderate and did not tidy up after themselves. This is no reflection on the staff or museum though! The cafe didn't have many savoury options which was a shame, but it was good that we could go out to the town for lunch and then return to the museum.
Amber S — Google review
We had an enjoyable visit here, being fans of Roald Dahl. There is a bit on the history of his life and work and plenty of interactive parts and craft areas. It's a relatively small museum and if you are looking for food and drink, I'd suggest taking your own to eat in the picnic areas or finding one of the local cafés.
Tim J — Google review
A small, well-organised museum, particularly suited to families with young children. The interactive exhibits are engaging and designed to capture the imagination.
Pervin M — Google review
Honestly couldn't recommend this place enough. As much as my 6 year old loved it too, she didn't love it for the reasons I did, I was interested in roald dahl, she was interested in the arts and crafts haha so next time, I'll go without her - and that's not in a mean way, it's just that I feel I couldn't really do the part I wanted to do without feeling mum guilt... maybe I'll wait till she's older and take her back... thing is, she knows his work, I've read his books to her alot ... sadly, they've been bed time stories so once she falls asleep, I continue reading hahaha! But, we left the museum with three new roald dahl books so I know what I'll be reading to her for a while 😄 I loved learning about him in more detail, I had read his autobiographies, but it's lovely seeing it all in person, his writing Hut etc. The staff, wow! They are amazing, definitely have a passion for their job and it really shows! Shout out to Helen for reading/narrating matilda so very well and getting all the kids involved, I am like her, I have several voices when I read and really go all out so it's nice to know I'm not alone there haha The kids all loved your narration and everyone, adults and children got involved with acting out the parts you encouraged us all to play. I also need to say, the souvenir shop, wow - the prices are extremely fair! I didn't expect to be leaving with what I did for the price! I'm very impressed and I can't wait to return! - even just to buy more books 😆 they put a stamp inside the book so you can show off to friends and family that you've been to the museum, or just for a keepsake for yourself! They haven't done what most places do when they know they have a very niche thing going on and bump prices up, even the cafe was reasonable! I do hope it stays that way! Thank you ever so much for keeping Roalds spirit alive! I hope you continue to do what you do for a very very long time!
Linds — Google review
Excellent place to take young children. We visited with 2 of our young grandchildren and they didn't want to leave. Plenty of informative hands on exhibits for the children to use. There is also a craft area with lots of different activities which is well stocked with resources. All members of staff were helpful and pleasant.
Trevor M — Google review
As avid readers of Roald Dahl's books, the kids enjoyed themselves and enjoyed the crafts. The staff were very helpful and it wasn't overly crowded, although it was a rainy October day when we visited. There were some really nice little bits of merchandise available in the gift shop. The food and drinks on offer were a little disappointing though, especially for the prices they charge. The pasty we ordered had clearly been reheated in a microwave because they were volcanic on the outside but cold in the middle. The indoor seating was the only place where it was overcrowded. As I said, it was a rainy day so nobody was sitting outside, which meant people were standing around waiting for families to finish eating before they could sit down. Just needs to be a little bigger, or maybe a canopy over seating outside would help. I do feel they could offer so much more at this museum to capture the imaginations of kids. Maybe some more modernised interactive exhibits, and maybe a Wonka-inspired range of confectionery.

Small but lovely. Fascinating information about Roald Dahl and lots of interactive parts and activities for children. Wasn't too busy, even in the half term holidays. Story session was great. Walked up to the church afterwards which was further than it looked but worth it.

Tring Reservoirs, located near Lock 39 Startops End in England, offer a perfect destination for a leisurely stroll or a cycling trip along the canal. The area features waterside footpaths with abundant birdlife and includes Marsworth Reservoir and College Lake nature reserve. Visitors can also enjoy the beautiful sunsets, relax at the 'beach' area by one of the reservoirs, and take advantage of the convenient car park.
A good place for a walk with lots of birds around. There is a parking area just close to the reservoir and also a canal side walk around.

An absolutely beautiful reservoir and canal. A car park, paid £3 for three hours. You can walk all the way around the reservoir and along the canal.
Ivan A — Google review
This was a great place to visit if you’re in the area. The car parking prices are a lie though — it says it will be £3.00 but on the app it cost a minimum of £4.30. Also there was no obvious distinction between what was parking for the reservoirs and what was parking for pub next door. We walked around the reservoirs and shared the path with a running event but there was plenty of space. A nice day out!
Brendan C — Google review
Took my pups for a walk around the reservoirs this morning and found it to be a very pleasant walk. We didn't use the car park, so can't comment on cost, but it looked to be very spacious.

Wonderful place. Originally part of the 19th century Grand Union canal system today this is most famous as series of lakes that comprises one of the best bird watching spots in Britain. Personally I enjoy the spectacular scenery, the interplay of water, the raised walkways and wildlife is just staggering especially in winter. There are also historic parts of the still functioning canal around the site, as the lakes are still part of the water feeding system for the Grand Union. A really wonderful serene place to visit especially if you are a bird watcher.

Particularly wanted to take the dogs somewhere they could go in the water but was disappointed there was a "Blue Algae" warning sign to keep out of the water. However, it's still a very peaceful place to go alongside the canal and locks. Also lots of bird life to spot.

Ahhh! This was a beautiful place! Absolutely loved it, had a lovely long walk along the canal, lovely views, immaculately clean and just so refreshing! Highly recommend it if you want to escape the hustle and bustle for a bit! If taking young kids take a buggy as the waters are open and not ideal, overall a super lovely place and the people were SO friendly! Loved it!!!

Soo beautiful forest 🌳 Favorite place for a walk. Some parts of Harry Potter, Robin Hood and other famous film productions were filmed here.. You can meet wild animals, big birds like Red Kite and huge centuries-old trees 800-1000 years old. There are a lot of red wood ants, so I recommend long pants.

A lovely nature reserve, ideal for a family hike. There are 2 carparks, it cost £3 to stay for the whole day on the weekend. There's also a small eco cafe with picnic benches and toilets. There are lots of benches to sit and eat lunch on as you walk around the south side of the park. We did a 4 mile walk around the Burnham Beeches, which was pretty easy with not too many difficult sections. Also a great place for kids to explore.
Fizzy — Google review
Beautiful woodland to take a stroll in on a clear day. It's large enough and with enough paths that you rarely bump into people. Most of the denser areas are still traversable so it is easy to get lost (in a good way) both in the woods and in your mind. I never turn down an opportunity to visit.
Krishan W — Google review
This is a wonderful mature woodland area with a number of well maintained trails throughout. This really is a place best visited on a Bright Sunny day with a gentle breeze. Under such conditions you get the dappled sunlight dancing on the woodland floor, filtered by the bright green canopy above. If you pick up the pamphlet from the information centre, you can follow the main paths around the woods and past the ponds. But if you go off these routes into the forest, it's best to have your smartphone with you, so you can navigate yourself back to the car park. Slough is very lucky to have this resource on it's doorstep.

Nestled in the picturesque countryside of Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, Cliveden House is a luxurious hotel housed in a stunning 17th-century mansion. Following an extensive restoration, this elegant property now offers opulent accommodations, including suites and bedrooms that exude English charm. Guests can indulge in the hotel's upscale amenities such as a lavish spa, outdoor pool, and fine dining options.
Went to see Cliveden as part of the #national trust but got there at the wrong time. It is only open to the public national trust members/visitors between 11 and 1. Met the most amazing gentleman who told me I couldn’t enter unless staying in the hotel, using the restaurant or staying for afternoon tea. Did get the chance to have tea though, absolutely stunning setting with so much class. I’ll time in better next time. The grounds were amazing, but vast. Enjoyed the talk on the patio for a little bit. Enjoyed the maze and waterfalls. It is a beautiful park.

A special mention to Jerry, who was incredibly friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make our visit memorable. His warmth and professionalism truly elevated the experience. Highly recommend Cliveden House for anyone looking to enjoy a refined and relaxing afternoon — we’ll definitely be back! ☕🍰✨

Very difficult not to like the Cliveden House. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. The room (Prince Albert), albeit small, felt cosy and luxurious, with all the necessary appliances and complimentary snacks. I suggest it for anyone in question of a lovely view, and more particularly, in need of catching a glimpse of the wonderful outdoor swimming pool. The spa area is highly enjoyable, and I particularly liked that the shop offers a nice variety of products for realistic prices. The breakfast was truly sensational with a breathtaking view. Overall, the quality of the food was great. Although the à la carte menu for room service was perhaps a bit pricey for the quality level (more specifically, the size of the meals). But again, it’s hard not to expect this being the case in a hotel like the Cliveden House. I would absolutely love to come back.
Lola S — Google review
We visited Cliveden House as a family to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Being local, it felt like the perfect choice for a special occasion, a five-star experience in beautiful surroundings. Unfortunately, the visit didn’t quite meet expectations. We were seated in what can only be described as the foyer, directly by the main entrance, with guests constantly passing through. It felt far from the elegant, serene setting we had imagined, and disappointing given Cliveden’s reputation and stunning grounds. A view of the gardens or a more private room would have made the experience far more memorable. Service was polite but not particularly attentive, we were left waiting for plates to be cleared. The food itself was of good quality, and our daughter’s gluten-free requirements were well managed, which we appreciated. What was most disappointing, however, was the lack of response after I shared this feedback directly with Cliveden House. For a hotel of its standing, a simple acknowledgement or reassurance that they value guest feedback would have gone a long way. A beautiful setting with potential for a truly special experience, but sadly, it fell short on both atmosphere and attentiveness.

Love this place. The long walk was impressive and autumnal trees and greenery very beautiful. Did not go into the hotel/restaurant. There is a lovely conservatory beside the house where you can shelter from inclement weather and gorge on cake or savoury food items

The afternoon tea is very standard, i’ve put down in the reservations and mentioned when i arrived that it was my grandma’s birthday but nothing was done about it. For the beautiful surroundings and the price you pay, the food could be brought up a notch which will make the overall experience a lot better!
Zeynep E — Google review
Oddly can't seem to find my review from last December... I would not recommend staying here at all, the hotel prioritises getting as much money from a cheap afternoon tea turn around rather than guests who are paying over £1,000 a night to stay. We were met in the 'grand entrance' to a clothes rail, and a reception room rammed full of people having afternoon tea loudly. The hotel guests had a small bar with bad, slow service. Dinner wasn't up to scratch either. I would certainly not recommend Cliveden House to anyone, it felt like a cattle market.

Another good session here. Our 13 year old boys have done the 1 day course reaching level 4 back in April, now they are doing level 5 and 6 in the 2 hour lesson. Super instructors and good facilities. A great way to prepare for a ski trip.

Also had skiing lessons previously with Charlotte who was extremely kind, helpful and patient. I also met Claire - the manager who went above and beyond for me and was also really helpful. Thank you to each of you, you really are special people. Hope we meet again :)

First day of my sons ski course. The parking was easy and aprox 100m from the Snozone desk, all flat and accessible if needed. The staff were efficient in organising his boots, putting him in his team and supporting him over the next hour or so. No complaints from either of us. I only gave 4 stars as the available cafe for me to spend my time waiting could have provided more options for breakfast, like a bacon butties. I did have a nice hot chocolate though.

Visited Snozone for a Snowboarding beginners day course. Had a fantastic time. Jago was super friendly and helpful in teaching technique and providing advice. Lunch was included in the price and we were offered a choice of pizzas, jacket potatoes and a few other options. Course lasted around 7.5hrs from 1015 to 1745. Group size was five, which worked well and Jago did a great job of supporting individuals with varying degrees of experience. Great fun, had a few hard falls, but perseverance is key! I will be back.

I’ve visited Snozone several times over the past six months. I started with a 1-1 session, followed by a Level 2/3, then a Level 3/4 session, and was due to have my Level 4/5 lesson next week. By the end of my Level 3/4 session, my instructor had ticked off all sections of Level 4 except the final box, mentioning that “with 10 more minutes, you’d have completed the level.” That would have allowed me to progress straight to Level 5/6. However, this week I received an email stating that Snozone no longer offers combined-level sessions and that my upcoming lesson would only cover Level 4. I called to explain my situation and asked whether I could move directly into Level 5, given my progress in the previous session. Unfortunately, I was offered very few options—almost none—and it felt as though the issue was being treated as my responsibility. I even suggested arriving early to complete Level 4 before moving on to Level 5 on the same day, as I was simply trying to continue the training I had already paid for. The staff member I spoke with wasn’t very helpful, and I eventually had to ask for a refund myself, which I would have expected them to suggest.. I later called back to ask about booking a full 7-hour Level 4/5/6 day instead. Thankfully, the second staff member I spoke to was much more professional and understanding. Although the available dates didn’t work for me, she processed my refund promptly. I’m really disappointed, as I had thoroughly enjoyed every session up to this point and was genuinely looking forward to continuing.

Amazing beginners snowboard course last Friday. Tony (and Dave) did an amazing job of making us feel comfortable and helping us to progress throughout the day. From never standing on a board to completing some relatively good turns in a few hours. The facility is great, easy to get to, cheap to park at, everything you need under one roof. The best bit was the instructors. Tony really put 100% into the job and was awesome. Had loads of fun and learnt so much. He was helped by Dave who was great too. It's a hard day, and physically demanding but so worth it

My first time trying snowboarding. Had a great instructor, Rachel, who was very patient with the group. I plan on coming again for more lessons

Silverstone Circuit is a renowned blacktop track that hosts the British Grand Prix and various other motor racing and cycling events. Visitors praise the fantastic facilities, with grandstand seating at every corner and straight, providing views all around the circuit. The venue offers plenty of toilets and free refillable water bottle stations, although food and drink stalls can be pricey. While it can get very busy during Formula One weekends, the overall experience is considered good, with friendly staff contributing to an enjoyable visit.
Travelled down to have a go at the F1 experience which was absolutely incredible. By far the best experience day I have ever done. After the experience we decided to check out the Museum. We were so glad we did. My 2 year old loved the F1 cars and so did I. The staff we all really friendly and helpful. Lots to see and even I learned something new. Great place to visit.

Great weekend away, really enjoyed it. Recommendations would be to take your own food as it’s a long day, also take walk clothing as you will be sat still outside for a while. Negatives would be lack of signage to locations and open stands, we were walking around for a while to find stands were closed. Also more screens or pole position details from stands, but of a guessing game otherwise.

The Silverstone Festival, celebrating 75 years of Formula One where it all began, was an absolutely unforgettable experience. From start to finish, everything was very well organized, and the staff were polite, friendly, and helpful, which made the day even better. There was so much to see and do, especially on the Friday when we went. It was the perfect choice — not overcrowded like the weekend can be, and the atmosphere was just right. Everywhere you looked there were interesting events taking place, from historic displays to on-track action. One absolute must is the museum — don’t miss it! I highly recommend purchasing the official booklet. It’s packed with useful information and really helps you navigate the festival. I only discovered at the end that the last page unfolds into a map of the whole site, which makes it much easier to see what’s going on. The booklet is a little expensive, but honestly worth it — with it, you won’t miss anything. The festival shop was another highlight, offering a wide range of merchandise, especially clothing, with some good sales. The food was also excellent and reasonably priced — much better than the usual “event food.” Both at the hotel restaurant and from vendors on-site, there were plenty of good options to enjoy, so no need to bring your own. It’s a shame that some of the great legends weren’t part of the event anymore, but it was still a powerful and moving experience. The history, the atmosphere, and the celebration of 75 years of Formula One made it truly special. Overall, the Silverstone Festival was an amazing experience — one that everyone should try at least once. My advice: don’t just stay in one place. Explore, walk around, and take it all in, because there’s so much more than meets the eye.

Came to Silverstone on the Sunday to watch F1 Grand Prix. We bought our tickets in advance which is essential. It was a great event. There was loads of food, shopping, variety of stalls. It is an all day event so can make of it as you please. My biggest concern was the toilets, but they had proper portable toilets so even better. Will definitely come back again and would recommend anyone to come and watch the F1. We had general admission tickets and stood at the Village A section on the corner. If you can afford to pay for a grand stand then I would recommend doing so. Just ensure you are prepared for all weather types

Amazing place for everyone, even if you are not a Formula 1 fan you will find plenty to do here it's like a festival for the whole family plus a chance to watch racing cars in action and if you are lucky you can even meet some of the Celebrities 😃 I got the tickets from my work and it was Friday practice only (initially I was slightly disappointed that it wasn't the Sunday when the main race take place) but still we've had fantastic day🤩. So many attractions are here and surprisingly for free, selfies with your favourite drivers, simulators, pit stop experience and even the Big Wheel....all free and worth queueing for. Many many different food stations, bars and places to sit and relax in between the drivers sessions. We have been lucky with sunny weather so the day was like a holiday experience from 8am till about 10.30pm with the concert to finish that brilliant day. I am already thinking about coming back here next year 🎉🎉🎉 I am obsessed....very well organised and packed with entertainment for anyone. Very grateful for the experience 🙏

A very special place like a world all in its self. A great charity event yesterday. Experiencing the track that looks every bit as impressive it is on tv, a lot of scaffolding on the stands though so would love to see permanent grandstands eventually but the feeling of running a lap of this historic tarmac was quite an excitement. Very helpful staff and certainly wish to come again, the merchandise too will be something I will be ready for too.

Great track, worth seeing. Went to a BTCC weekend in September and had a great time watching the qualifying from the stands. Plenty to see including a museum, lots of parking spaces and toilets, food, store had a lot of merchandise on sale, probably because it was end of the season. Allow a couple of hours to visit the track.

Love this circuit best place to watch British touring cars and MotoGP. Been here a few times now and the staff are very helpful. The food stalls are good a bit expensive but they have to pay slot in pitch fees for the day. Parking is easy and free which is great for the amount of spectators that turn up. Had a great day at the BTCC open pit garages so you view the cars/mechanics etc, you can sit anywhere in the grandstands.

Hughenden Manor, a captivating National Trust property located in High Wycombe, invites visitors to explore the rich history of its former resident, Victorian Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli. From 1848 to 1881, this stunning country house served as his home and later played a secret role during World War II as a target map-making base known as Operation Hillside.
A great opportunity to look behind the scenes of one of Britain's greatest and innovative prime ministers. Fascinating home and beautiful gardens, with the added history of a secret war time map making facility. Very enthusiastic and informative guides. An incredible abundance of apples and fruit in the orchards.

Well looked after grounds, well tended gardens and beautifully managed Manor House. The facilities are more than adequate and volunteers are helpful and knowledgeable to explain and answer questions. However, we found the lights were very dim in most of the rooms downstairs and it was difficult to see or read the information provided in the pamphlets and walls.

No queues, not a lot of people and one of the most comprehensible and easy to navigate National Trust houses in England. Absolutely fascinating to learn more about English history; Disraeli, wartime mapping, and secrecy. Knowledgeable staff who like what they are doing. We visited on a glorious sunny weekday afternoon. A light lunch to start, nothing really special, served quickly and efficiently. The house is very well presented and the gardens are a delight to walk around and sit and admire while reclining in a deck chair.

Lovely building with a fascinating story. Loved all of the information on the production of the maps during WW2, especially interesting that they are still finding out about people who were there during that time. Cafe has plenty of seating with the usual menu of quality fare. The gardens are gorgeous and extensive.

Amazing House and gardens and with a lot of history, with roots dating back to before the Domesday Book. It became known as the country home of Benjamin Disraeli, Queen Victoria's favorite Prime Minister, who purchased it in 1848. If you're a National Trust member you should definitely visit.

A beautiful place to go. Gardens are well kept with lovely colours, the staff were friendly, and happy to help. House was amazing to look around. Water bowls in the courtyard for dogs and Toilets were clean.

Just beyond High Wycombe and off the M40. However try and approach any other way due to traffic and general yukkiness. An unusual property in that you start from the top at the car parks, walking down through lovely woods. We turned left halfway down so that the next stop was the walled garden and a butterfly count for our granddaughter. You pop out just below the cafe yard. Next is the back lawn and house entrance. The house is free to roam for once. It includes several interesting rooms dedicated to its time as the RAF Bomber Command map making centre in WW2. There is a rest area with children's books etc in the attic and a 2nd hand bookshop by the entrance. Various games were laid out on the front lawn which reveals the magnificent house frontage.

Beautiful house and gardens with excellent trails throughout the year. All the staff and volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable, often sharing information that really makes the experience special. Bekonscot Model Village & Railway is a unique and charming attraction located in Buckinghamshire. It holds the title of being the oldest model village in the world, having been built in the late 1920s. The village spans across 1.5 acres of gardens and consists of seven model towns and villages connected by a detailed model railway.
Booking online 48 hours in advance gives you 10% off. Family tickets available. There’s a small ride on train at the entrance for an extra charge of £1.80. Children delighted with the trains going round the model village. Great models from all eras with shops, schools, a harbour, castles etc. Small indoor play area with dressing up. Great play area with climbing frames and slides. Food and drinks with some indoor seating and picnic tables outside. Extra bonus at the weekend was a display of birds of prey. Very good value day out.

Absolutely love this model village. We went here on the drive home to pop in as we went when we were kids (now 30) and we enjoyed it just as much. It also brought back alot of memories for my parents and my dad spent the most time walking around and taking photos out of all of us (big kid at heart). We even took a ride on the little train for 5 minutes. Definitely a place for all ages and a fun day out. It also has a cafe and a little exhibition room which was great.

This is such a beautiful place to visit we went with our kids and they totally loved it!! The whole tiny town is such a work of art the little details are just amazing!! Our kids were amazed and so were we! There is a little cafe where we get sandwiches and coffee etc. There is a big playarea for kids which they totally enjoy!! The best was the train ride.. so fun we had the best time here! Totally recommend it ❤️❤️❤️

The best place for little train-obsessed five year olds. We have visited the site last year and this year, our little one was constantly talking about it and we had to return. We love the place, it brings so much tranquility and soothe as it moves you in time and place of calm, order and simpler life. The scenery and each detail make you appreciate the way of life we have lost, seems so precious. Pay attention to details - like name on the shops and venues, make you giggle, the train stations and trains running everywhere (the bridge by the castle!). And the horticultural care - what a masterpiece of mini elms, pines, little rivers, cascades. There is a short train ride for families and you can have some fun with operating a boat on a pond. Plenty of koi carps, would be great if we could feed them, too! (Please sell the fish food with tickets!) We discovered new room where old type writer is, what a great fun to do some scenarios and play with props. Playground is also awesome for kids, good food selection in cafe (although I would like to see more healthier options) and plenty of seating area (you can bring your own food). Thank you for being there :)

Bekonscot Model Village is a fun and cute place. Everything is small and detailed little houses, trains, and people. It feels like a tiny world! It’s perfect for families, kids, and anyone with a love for history or craftsmanship. The garden is very pretty and the whole place is clean and well looked after. The staff are kind and helpful. You can also enjoy a snack or drink at the café. A great place to relax and enjoy a peaceful day.

Found this place as a suggestion on Instagram and Facebook, and really wanted to visit. What better time to visit this place is on a sunny day! I enjoyed my visit to this place. First off, I wanted to experience the mini train ride which was fun. The highlight was the miniature houses, landmarks and villages where you get to walk around it! I felt like I was in a different world and I loved it! My favourite part were the mini trains running around the mini village! It added to the beauty of the model village! The staff and the team there have all been amazing and accommodating! Thank you so much guys! One of the train engineers there (I believe his name was Joseph) gave us an inspiring insight about the model village and even mentioned the names of the mini trains which was fascinating. I highly recommend this place for inspiration, for family outing, and also an Instagram-worthy place! 😊❤️🫶🏼

Parking here is free in the church car park opposite the model village entrance. The model village is brilliant and has a gauge 1 size computer controlled model railway running all the time. There are lots of working animatronics and even a trail for the children to follow and search for various items. There is also a children's playground area and also a miniature train to ride on (small extra cost of £1-80 per person). It also has a remote control model boating lake area (small extra charge). There are full facilities of toilets, cafe, ice cream and picnic area. I personally a good day out here (4hrs.); went round it twice and saw things I missed first time round. If you like model villages, then I recommend you visit Bekonscot, it's a great visit.

Odds Farm Park is a fantastic destination for families with young children, offering a range of activities to keep everyone entertained. The park features animal encounters, tractor rides, and indoor play areas, providing an opportunity for visitors to meet friendly farm animals and learn about farming. Additionally, there are outdoor play options such as go-karts and crazy golf, ensuring that there's something for everyone to enjoy.
This place is a complete bundle of joy for the whole family - the extreme close encounters at the animal barns to start with, massive adventure playground and sand play areas, go karts, golf park and to top it all - a giant soft play well curated for the little senses, this place had got something to offer for everyone. A must visit for the whole family attending throughout the year. We visited them at the family Pumpkin Nights festival and it had so much fun to offer - marshmallow toasting, access to the entire park exclusively at the evening, lights and glow events at the show barn and silent disco. It was overall an unforgettable experience and extremely hard for little to leave the place after such fun hours of play and entertainment

We had a lovely time at the farm with our baby last Thursday. We really enjoyed feeding the animals, and the outdoor play areas were fantastic! The baby soft play could definitely use more balls in the ball pit, and the café closed quite early, with no food options available later on. Still, it’s a great spot for little ones and we’d happily go back!

Odds Farm is a fantastic place for a family day out. We went for a birthday party and the kids had a brilliant time! There’s a great indoor play area, outdoor playgrounds, a sand zone, and lots of animals to feed like goats and sheep. The staff were friendly and everything was well organised. Highly recommended, especially for families with young children.

We spent the day at Odds Farm for Halloween half term and it was a blast. From pumpkin picking (every paying child gets a FREE pumpkin!) to watching Wicked the Musical performances — three times might I add, because it was definitely my son’s highlight of the day! We also loved the brilliant bubble show, tractor & trailer ride, Marmalade’s Mini Rovers, and of course feeding all the adorable animals. If you’re looking for some Halloween fun this half term, I highly recommend Odds Farm - there’s so much to do and it’s perfect for little ones! We’ll definitely be back soon! (@landoandlyra) x

✨Spring magic, fluffy friends & big smiles — that's what our Easter adventure at @oddsfarmpark was all about! We fed adorable goats, cuddled lambs, explored the Easter trail and got crafty in the barn! Plus: we zoomed around on mini tractors, played crazy golf, roasted marshmallows over the fire, splashed in water play, and ran wild on the massive playground! A full day of laughter, fresh air, and proper childhood joy.

Came for my son's 2nd birthday. Not a birthday package or anything. Just turned up , no booking, me little one and 4 others. Cost us £110 for all 6 of us.... Expensive, but worth it!!! Gift store you can go to in and out of at any time. We didn't get anything because we just paid £110 so felt very broke after that... Anyway... We came in and there's loads of space for the kids to play with the playgrounds, sand pits and ride on trucks. My little one was too young older it all and I didn't want sand in my car, but for a day out with older kids aged 4+, definitely worth it for a good few hours. We went to the first animal place we saw which was pen for the sheep and goats. My little one loved it. We had bought 2 packets of animal feed as well and my 2 year old was obsessed with feeding the goats !!! Honestly he could have done it for hours. Half expected him to leave there with an employment contract. It was so clean and well kept and my 2 year old had NO FEAR AT ALL in shoving his hand in the animals mouth with the animal feed. There were a fair amount of animal feed dropped by others that had been there before us, aswell as my son dropping some. He just didn't want to leave. They had bunnies there you could touch and they were sooooooo amazingly soft to touch. My son was not interested but it was a little moment I took for myself. Such a good de-stresser ! Upon leaving the animal pens, which had a hand wash station with running and well temperatures water and well stocked soap, we then came across the crazy golf. I had brought my 50+ year old mum with me who wanted to do it, but little one is too young to understand it and no assault some one with a cold club. Mum would have loved it if we did it. Maybe next year mum ! We then came across the sheep sheering show but I don't think little one was interested. Again, another thing to do next year or the year after ( we are definitely coming back by the way, without a doubt) lots of barns for activities of all ages. Lots of play parks everywhere on site of all sizes some even had a little water park with some fountains (child friendly) for them to enjoy on a hot day. We then went and played some football which little one was still grasping the concept of..... Kept reminding him to use his feet and not his hands for a football but he will get there.... One day .. I hope hahaha, maybe he's a rugby sort of boy. Who knows. We then had a tractor ride which happens every hour which we all loved as a family. Our tractor driver was very friendly and lovely. And have us a clear easy to follow safety briefing, once we got off we went to the furthest part of the farm and saw the variety of different breeds of chickens. It was amazing and they looked so funny and cute. We then headed home and my son fell asleep in the back of the car. What an eventful day! there was a cafe there we nipped into a couple of times to get some hot and cold drinks. They sold cakes and all sorts. And juice for the kids.... And me . Was such a fun day out and we loved it. Will definitely be back later in the year and next year for a 3rd birthday. Thank you to all the staff for keeping it clean. It was fantastic to learn it's a family run farm and the family engaged with guests some times. Cannot fault it.. except the price but I guess it goes to the farm and the staff as well as the animals to look after them and keep them well fed and kept. So much to do. Could easily spend a whole day here. Id recommend to come with kids aged 2 up to 11 years old. Consider bringing a pram if your little kids (aged 2 - 4) don't like to walk around much... Or don't get out at all. Bring suncream and lots of water. For the warmer days you come here. You won't regret it.

Stowe Gardens, part of the National Trust, offers visitors a chance to explore 250 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens featuring lakes, temples, and monuments. The estate is home to Stowe House, a 17th-century mansion with enchanting gardens and secret temples designed by Capability Brown. The property boasts woodlands, secret gardens, and water features for visitors to enjoy.
Stowe Gardens is one of the most breathtaking landscapes in England — a true masterpiece of 18th-century garden design. Managed by the National Trust, it offers an unforgettable day out, blending nature, art, and history in the most spectacular setting. The sheer scale of Stowe is incredible. Sweeping lawns, serene lakes, hidden valleys, and winding paths lead you to over 30 magnificent monuments and temples, each with its own story. Every turn feels like walking into a different painting. It’s easy to spend hours just wandering, soaking in the beauty and tranquillity. The gardens are immaculately maintained, and there’s a real sense of stepping back in time. Whether you’re a keen walker, a history enthusiast, or simply someone who loves peaceful, inspiring places, Stowe has something to offer. It’s especially magical in spring and autumn when the colours of the landscape are at their most vibrant. The visitor centre is excellent too, with a good café, a shop full of lovely gifts and plants, and very helpful staff. There’s plenty of parking, and the welcome walk from the centre to the gardens gives you a perfect build-up before you reach the main view. Stowe Gardens is not just a visit — it’s an experience, a place that leaves you feeling refreshed, inspired, and slightly awestruck by its beauty.

Once you're near, follow the signs for the national trust parking, as there are several entrances. Its £17 per adult, National Trust members are free. Parking is free. Toilets available. Cafe. Book store. Small shop. The grounds are massive, with many many walks to be had, and you can walk even further through fields. The walkways are wide, and well maintained. Good for buggies.. This is one of the biggest National Trust places Ive been to, and an excellent choice for walking.

WOW. Amongst the amazing treasure the national trust recommends, this was top of the list! The gardens, the monuments and the actual house were just mesmerising. We loved our trip and the whole vibe was just so peaceful and scenic. We didn’t see inside the house as we have left that so we can come back and explore it! We didn’t explore the gardens and the views were just breathtaking. I highly recommend visiting! And can I just add the amount of amazing fruit trees littered around are beautiful. We did pick some fruit (no signs to say we couldn’t, sorry!) Amazing day out

Beautiful landscape dotted with monuments, temples and statues. Be prepared for a lot of walking on rolling undulating paths and grassland. It’s 800 metres from the cafe/shop just to the parkland entrance. Good shoes are essential. Lots of photo worthy views round every corner. The cafe serves excellent coffee and has a good range of savoury and sweet treats. Also an excellent second hand bookshop.

Vast grounds, lush green scenery, and lots to see. In one corner about a couple of miles there’s glorious and historic building of Stowe School that offers information and display about the 300 years old dynasty and how they lived lavishly. Entry to the Stowe School building is £9 pp and must be booked in advance as it’s not a National Trust building. There are various statues, temples and old buildings in the vast grounds that are worth visiting. Plenty of walk and plenty to explore.

A renowned example of an 18th-century English landscape garden, developed primarily by the Temple family from 1717 onwards. The gardens were significantly shaped by a series of designers, including Charles Bridgeman, William Kent, and "Capability" Brown, transforming formal gardens into a more naturalistic landscape. The gardens are known for their lakes, artificial islands, tree avenues, and carefully placed monuments, including the ha-ha, which is one of the earliest examples in England. The gardens also feature over 40 temples and monuments, each with its own unique story and design. Great place, definitely worth a visit if you're a National Trust member, there is a lot of walking.

The estate features beautiful gardens with scented rose gardens and wooded parkland that offers colorful views throughout the year. Visitors can enjoy walking trails and picnic spots while taking in the surrounding countryside. The neoclassical architecture of the stately home reflects aristocratic elegance, showcasing opulent interiors adorned with exquisite art and furnishings.
Beautiful National Trust property. Unusual as downstairs the rooms were more formal but upstairs very personalised by last owners who only moved out to another wing late last century. As usual, the volunteers were fantastic, tea room split over a number of rooms. Small gardens but large parklands to walk through. Definitely worth a visit.

We had a splendid time at Basildon Park. The house is beautiful, my favourite room was the Seashell Room. Volunteers from National Trust were so friendly and full of historical information. We didn’t get a chance to have a long walk outside but we did manage to have a lovely short one after picking up a bite at the cafe. Look forward to coming back for a longer walk & a visit to the gift shop.

Fine manor house with plenty of woodland and pasture to explore. There’s ample parking which is a good thing as it’s only really possible to get there by car. The manor has great architecture and is very well maintained. There’s a cafe there but the food is a little below the standard I’d expect for a national trust venue.

Basildon Park is such a charming mix of history and glamour! Built in the 18th century for Sir Francis Sykes and later owned by James Morrison, the house even fell into disuse during WWII before being rescued in the 1950s by Lord and Lady Iliffe. I loved exploring the rooms and viewing framed personal family photos and other mementos. It was also fun discovering the home’s on-screen fame—right now there’s a 20th anniversary exhibition celebrating all the films and TV shows shot here, from Pride and Prejudice to Downton Abbey, and The Crown. The National Trust has done a great job keeping both the house and its lovely grounds inviting, so it’s easy to imagine life here across the centuries.

The lush green fields, meandering river Thames, glorious countryside, and the Mansion full of colourful history. Each room tells a story and the Mansion was the shooting location of at least five films between 2005 - 2020, Pride & Prejudice, Dorian Gray, Downton Abbey, The Gentlemen, and Belgravia. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable who are ready to answer any question you may have. The whole palace is kept immaculately clean and the public facilities are excellent.

Beautiful house with an interesting history. Exciting to visit if you're a fan of historic drama showa like Downton Abbey or Pride and Prejudice. Has lovely walks around the parkland. Loved the sea shell collection - never seen anything like it. Was amazing to see the Downton Abbey dresses on exhibition.

Nestled in a secluded Chilterns valley, National Trust - Greys Court is a historic 16th-century manor house with a rich history dating back over 9 centuries. The estate features a donkey-powered mill wheel, a 12th-century tower, and a grass maze. Visitors can explore the tranquil gardens and admire the stained-glass panels and elegant drawing room inside the mansion.
Always a fantastic day out. Very knowledgeable volunteers. Gorgeous gardens, even though a been drooping from the heat this time around. Places to picnic and walk. A great little book nook. One of our favourite venues.

I really loved this site. It was so tranquil on an early Saturday morning. The estate walks are beautiful. The walled garden is amazing - one of the best I've seen and I've seen a lot of them. The wisteria must look stunning when in bloom. House is very pretty and someone was playing the piano and it really made the visit even more pleasant.

A wonderful little place to spend the afternoon. The walk around the garden was lovely. Autumn blooms out in force. Not many people around so seemed peaceful. The house is compact but plenty to see and take in. Volunteers were very knowledgeable and friendly. Biscuits that were cooked in the kitchen as we passed through were delicious. Shop and tea room were accessible and had standard NT fayre. The second hand bookshop was small but plenty of choice. All staff were friendly and helpful. I will definitely come back here. Highly recommended.

An interesting house and different to a number.of other houses we have been to. The rooms are more 20th century so an interesting insight into the family home and kitchen. The gardens were lovely, even though it is October but I will be back in Spring and summer when they will be at their best!

A beautifully preserved National Trust property with a warm, lived-in feel. The interiors are charming and full of character — especially the kitchen and library. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. A peaceful spot for a slow afternoon, and the garden is lovely too. Highly recommended if you’re near Henley-on-Thames!

Wonderful house and Gardens. Rich history going back 1000 years, 1066 and the war. Lots of unusual plants and trees to see. Visit the green house and walled garden. There is a garden shop. Plenty of free car parking. Nice cafe with good selection of hot and cold food. Plenty of seating i door and outdoors.
Shailesh P — Google review
I have been to Greys Court before, visiting in May 2023. Like on my previous visit, inside I was reminded me of my grandparents’ houses and flats. Part of the reason was the furniture in the house was more 1960s and 1970s than the 19th Century. There is always that compromise between preservation, conservation and restoration. Some National Trust properties try to restore the house to what it was like in the 19th century, other times as with Greys Court they preserve what it was like when it was passed to the National Trust.
James C — Google review
Very peaceful and relaxing property with beautiful and interesting gardens and well presented 1930s furnished house. Knowledgeable volunteers were on hand and a pianist playing in the drawing room. It would have been good if there had been a kids activity trail but a good members experience nonetheless.

The Hellfire Caves, located just outside the village of West Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, offer a unique and thrilling underground exploration experience. This man-made cave network extends 300ft underground and was once used by the mysterious 18th Century high-society Hellfire Club for their secret meetings. Visitors can take tours to discover underground passages, chambers, and perhaps even encounter the caves' reputed ghosts.
Interesting place. Have passed this so many times and wanted to visit. It was worth the visit, lovely small cafe before you enter, inside is very good. Took a walk to the Church and Mausoleum, again steeped in history. We had lunch at The Walled Garden, lots to choose from and very nice

Excellent alternative day out. Caves are easy to get through and we'll looks after. Loads of fun history in the place as well. Would love to have done more in the area but most was taken up by Netflix filming but will definitely go back and try again. Walled cafe also a good treat in the area. Food was good quality and there was no long wait for service.

Really cool spot to explore. We rented a car to visit Diddly Squat Farm from London and stopped by here for our 12 year old. Chilly underground while it was sweltering at the surface. We climbed up to the mausoleum and the views were amazing.

Hell fire caves as most know has an amazing history and very creepy complicated past which was amazing to learn about and also research myself the caves were amazing the craftsmanship was definitely something to visit not to mention it is DEFINITELY haunted so not for the weak haha but we loved it. Will probably visit again in the future!

Amazing little secret if you know about it. I stumbled across this and it was a fantastic visit with a great little coffee shop at the entrance that you don't need to actually buy a ticket to use. I will be visiting again with the family, and let them experience the caves. Great half term visit.
JPJ A — Google review
Brilliant visitor attraction and worth the experience. There are lots of stories about the caves that are brought to life through interpretation panels, wax model displays, and audio. I did find the audio a bit loud and at times distracting, can be a bit of a sensory overload. Would be great if they have a “quiet time” for people who need it. But failing that I’d recommend bringing some ear defenders or noise cancelling headphones. It can be cold in the caves so wear layers. And I can see that it could be slippery so good shoes are a must. There is a cafe on site, and further down the hill at The Walled Garden cafe.
Laura H — Google review
We found these caves by chance as we went to this area for another event. They had a Halloween event on at these on the 26th October when we visited and there were people dressed up down in the caves with spooky decorations and scenes setup down there too. It was great the caves are very interesting and the history that goes along with them is great too. There is a little cafe at the menu entrance which is very fairly priced. The staff were friendly and polite. If you are in the area I would recommend a visit to these caves.

Milton Keynes Museum is situated in the serene setting of Stacey Hill Farm, a Victorian-era model farm on the outskirts of Wolverton. The museum offers a wide array of activities and can easily fill an entire day with exploration. Visitors can immerse themselves in the history of the area's growth and learn about the story of the new city. The museum features interactive exhibits, allowing visitors to touch artifacts and experience hands-on activities like trying out gramophones.
Thoroughly enjoyed the visit yesterday to the museum. Initially thought it was a smaller site but there’s so much to see. The lady on reception was fantastic. Approachable, knowledgeable & very compassionate.

Wow. MK Museum surpassed all my expectations. What unbelievable value for money for a SAHM and toddler. I have taken my two year old son here twice in two weeks and he's not stopped talking about it. The highlight so far has been the working water wheel which we didn't know was there until we visited. Thank you to Paul and Diane (Thursday crew) for being so kind and helpful, showing my young son the music boxes and pianola, Ben (Wednesday) for the sewing machine and shoe polishing machine demonstrations, and John (Wednesday) for the many many(!) walks through the farming hall. What an absolute joy you all have been - so encouraging, making my son's visit so hands on and educational. He's already asking to come back! The only thing that's been a sticky point is that some of the volunteers have different opinions/ rules on what young children are allowed to engage with and touch.
Kate B — Google review
Milton Keynes Museum is such a wonderful place for children and adults alike. We’ve taken our three little ones here almost weekly (upon their request!), and they love every minute of it. Such a wide variety of exhibits and interactive displays and activities would be enough for most, but when you couple this with the outstanding volunteers that work here week round, it’s hard not to come back! Huge thank you to all the wonderful volunteers for bringing the exhibits to life and for being so kind and attentive in the tea room! We cannot recommend the Milton Keynes Museum enough
George G — Google review
A charming museum full of local character and rich historical atmosphere. Housed in old brick buildings and warehouses, it features several themed exhibition areas showcasing British industry, communication, transportation, and daily life, perfect for anyone interested in modern British lifestyles. What makes it special is that many exhibits are interactive, letting you experience how things were actually used in the past. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, often dressed in period costumes to demonstrate and explain the exhibits. It’s a wonderful place to explore local history and see how Britain transitioned from an agricultural to an industrial society. Highly recommended!
Moon R — Google review
I come here every month for the past 4 years and I've seen it change a lot which is cool. It's got lots of old things and there's a new section that's opened up with fossils, it's quite interesting. Kept hearing a lot of the volunteers screaming at the toddlers because they were holding a phone wrong. Clearly they can't communicate with them properly. Nice café.
TheEndZombo — Google review
An excellent look back in time at various aspects of British life from Roman times through the corn laws, jahn Radliffe Library Oxford and his legacy after death. Opening with the music boxes , shut up pit a sock in it and rounding off with a beer festival 10 ales and 8 ciders, in the company of Bill and his friends..

What a fantastic museum! Came here today with my daughter, dad & step mum. It was so interesting with so much to look at and do. Every worker / volunteer was brilliant. All kind, smiley and happy to show us everything. They were all really enthusiastic and it was a fantastic day. Shout out to Cameron for being a brilliant asset to the Museum team. Enthusiastic, informative and friendly. Initially thought it was a tad pricey - until we were told that our ticket is valid for an entire year. Fantastic price. Can’t wait to come back.

Dunstable Downs is a stunning destination that offers a delightful blend of nature and recreation. Nestled within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this site boasts breathtaking views and diverse landscapes, making it perfect for leisurely walks or invigorating hikes. With miles of footpaths winding through chalk grasslands, it's an ideal spot for dog owners to explore the great outdoors. The area also features a charming woodland playground, a cozy café, and a shop for visitors to enjoy.
Absolutely beautiful. We come here every now and then and it’s always great for a walk with the dogs, on your own, or I say hello to my grandpa whose ashes are scatted here. There’s loads of space for flying kites and watching the gliders take off. The cafe is dog friendly, which is amazing. Not impressed with the jams sold there, it’s not local, it’s simply just store bought and relabelled.

Parking is £3.50 or free if you’re a National Trust member. Incredible views and walks, especially for dog walking. The main hill overlooks the London Gliding Club so it’s good fun to watch the tow planes taking off. Theres a dedicated area for kit flying too. There is a large national trust cafe and shop atop the hill, prices are not too bad and the shop stocks some lots of locally produced products (jam, honey, oil, chutneys).

Fantasitic views. I went with my mother in law and kids. We were able to use the wheelchair in case she cant walk. Fantastic service, they also have mobility scooters and small bikes for children under 5. I was surprise how well prepared the kiosk was.. There is possibility to use their overcoats, raincoats, warm blouses and wellies if u forgot but for lids only under 10... absolutely great idea... I noticed there are some activities going on and there was full list of things but i lost leaflet. We used main building for loo and its large and clean. We bougt second hand books !!! another great idea. It all looks really nicely run. All great! Views amazing. Was a bit windy but we enjoyed looking at gliding planes and it wax such fun. We are going back soon...

A nice place with a good scenic view for a day out, but the public toilets and café closed very early, around 5 pm. More concerning is the lack of public toilets, especially considering the needs of families, children, and younger visitors who often stay quite late. Quite disappointing, considering the management team's awareness of the fact that toilets are essential. Even though they shut the toilet doors at 5 pm, they could have implemented a payment system to allow the toilets to be used. I notice people are going to the loo behind the trees. Overall, a good place to visit, but considering the basic amenities, I suggest avoiding it, especially if you are travelling with small children.

Great place to visit ! Has a nice cafe with great lunch and breakfast menus along with tea and coffee options . Views from this place are amazing and also the walk on the paths are great too ! Parking seems reasonable too . Arrived around 1:30 pm and it was only £3 till 8 pm . It is pretty windy near the cafe but is a great place to fly kites which you can bring your own or buy from the cafe ( but expensive though cheapest one is £14) . Overall a great place to visit. Would definitely come again on a sunny day !!

Visitors can explore woodlands, chalk downlands, and open commons on foot or by bike. The estate boasts vibrant seasonal displays including bluebells in spring and colorful foliage in autumn. Busy place with lots of parking. A 100ft+ monument you can climb to the lookout. Beautiful woodland. Great to wear out the kids exploring the woods and for dog walking.

It's a great place for the walkers, two, and four-legged. There are plenty of woodland trails to take, with a great trail for wheelchair users. There is a lovely cafe/ restaurant there with plenty of seating, outside and in. A delicious ploughman's for around £11, good value. The car park is free, but the trust asks for a small donation of £2, but it's voluntary. I went on a Thursday, and it seemed very popular.

We love Ashridge. Lovely way marked paths that include some suitable (if you are strong & have a robust wheelchair) for wheelchairs. A good amount of parking - don’t forget the £2 voluntary contribution. Good shop and cafe and there are often some activities for children. It is wonderful walking among the trees. Keep your eyes peeled and you way we’ll see deer.

We love ashridge. Lots of accessible walks, natural play spaces, gift shop and a nice cafe. Free to park which a big bonus, although we are NT members anyway. Amazing colours in autumn and always lovely for a walk, whatever the season.

Fantastic place for walking your dog in the forest or just walk around with children. It has four different main routes but you can just get lost wherever you want. There is a nice cafe with a seating area, a shop and toilet facilities by the main car park.
Andrea U — Google review
Great place for a walk. Plenty of parking (free if national trust member otherwise a donation box) Has toilets, cafe, shop and some boards with different walks. We did the foresters walk which said 3 miles in 2 hours. We weren't walking quickly and got back in much less than 2 hours. Pleasant walk through the woods. Also went up the monument for some great views (much higher than it looks from the bottom!) Definitely recommend visiting here.
Sam S — Google review
I was a National Trust member for quite some time, and used to visit Dockey Wood to enjoy the bluebells every year, up until four years ago when the bluebell woods was overrun with brambles. Even though after numerous complaints about how it was neglected they started putting up signs. They started leaving lots of branches for barriers in a claim to stop people from treading over the bluebells. It looked a mess. They left signs saying how they wanted to protect the bluebells, and then it was for forestry reasons why they left the brambles there. They claimed they didn’t have to do anything as it was originally a commercial forest but for the benefit of the public they were going to charge them for the benefit of looking at brambles and dead branches. There is a slightly lesser known larger bluebell area the opposite the road to Docky wood. It was perfectly shaded. It wasn’t open, and no major deforestation had ever taken place in that area for some time, and the bluebells flourished. However, last year they put barriers up in the car park by Docky Wood, and I noticed a lot of tree trunks and forestry notices going up. Today I’ve walked to the secret bluebell area which is now covered in tree debris. A whole area of forest has disappeared leaving the area wide open. All of the tree debris is all over the emerging bluebells, including lots of trees that have been felled to get the large machinery right through the centre of the Bluebells. There were originally small paths through the bluebells, which they then blocked with signs saying don’t come up this path badgers beware. But obviously when it suits them most there is now great big 2 track tree felling machine tracks straight through those little paths. The single paths are now large double track mud holes, which have trampled over the bluebells, and have effectively devastated an absolutely gorgeous bluebell wood. It’s quite clear that the tree felling has got nothing to do with the protecting the bluebells but all to do with the financial gain they’re going to get from the high price of wood. They could have put the tree debris anywhere else in their 500 ha area of forest and yet they chose to dump all of the trees and debris and cut down lovely well established trees and dump it on all of the bluebells. Great job, Ashridge estate.

It is a lovely house that gives you a great garden to look around and a decent walk around the grounds. The houses are only open at certain times and only 1 day a week which makes it quite inconvenient to visit. We didn't manage to look around the house but did visit the garden and the lands, it's beautiful but it would be nice to have more accessibility on the weekends.

We enjoyed our visit to Stonor Park. We didn't buy a ticket to the house, but the gardens are nice. You do have to pay extra for the playground but it looked OK. However, BEWARE of the Pantry Cafe. It closes at 5 with last orders 4:30 and this isn't signed anywhere! We think they should put a sign in the visitor centre or outside the building. Overall, it's nice for a day out but things aren't very clear.

If it is your first time there, you might get confused/lost as the grounds were not well signposted (for Halloween) Parking is a bit of a chaos, very muddy with no grip. Playground for children is brilliant. Haĺloween trail was just OK. Stonor's grounds and gardens are absolutely mindblowing. You can also get drinks or food from the van on the playground or machine drinks at the shop. The lady dressed as a witch, at the entrance/cashier made the difference on the day we visited Stonor, a ray of sunshine on a gloomy day 🌤🎃🧙‍♀️🪄☕️👻

A lovely place for a trip out for all the family. The gardens are really lovely and really well maintained. There's lovely views and plenty of places to sit and relax. There's also a brilliant looking kids adventure playground which seemed to be very popular. Food options are slightly limited. In the reception area there are just snacks and hot drinks. In the playground area There's a place selling freshly cooked pizza which was delicious. Although if you are just visiting the gardens you don't necessarily have access to the play area Although thankfully we were allowed access to get our pizza.

Amazing place to go with kids. Unfortunately we went on a drizzly morning so the slides were wet, which caused my grandson to literally fly off the end and wind himself. No serious damage but unnerved him, which was a shame as we were having a great time until then. That said, the park is brilliant and the musical tree is a lovely touch.we would dinitly come again (but maybe stay off the slides if it's wet!)

Beautiful grounds, I went here with my disabled son who loved it. Please make it clear where you expect disabled vehicles to park, I'm very grateful you provide disabled spaces but I was approached by two separate volunteers telling me I had parked on the grass (very naughty) - very simple, just show people driving disabled vehicles where it is you expect them to park. A basic sign on a random tree doesn't help. Thanks.

What a nice surprise! I heard about this place as the filming location of the movie Labyrinth with David Bowie so I was curious to visit. Visited during a beautiful Sunday and it was better than expected. The garden is large and you can have a nice walk around. Wonderful view over the house and some magical bridges. The house is also amazing and very luxurious but you can't take pictures inside which is disappointing. As a NT member, I will definitely visit again as I live nearby.

Lovely gem in Old High Wycombe village (the village itself is a walk in the past, beautiful), with a villa, a lake, few streams and glades to walk around. The only thing is that it is open for only 3hrs on a Sunday. Potentially because it is still inhabited, sometimes. We actually met a couple of the heirs, on our way out :)

Absolutely glorious but.....oh, the litter louts😭. A stunning place, amazing views but people have left so much litter including these canisters which look as if a whole group just dumped them.....SHAME ON YOU. If you can bring your Macdonalds, bike canisters, coffee cups etc up here then you can TAKE YOUR LITTER HOME.....PLEASE! It was great up there but the litter round the carpark was heartbreaking....

Really nice natural area, second only to Barton Springs in this region. Lovely places to explore, nice and clean - apart from the car park where it looked as if people had emptied bags of garbage from their cars onto the ground. Cute little tree swings dotted around, lovely overhanging branches, large area to roam and let's the kids loose.

A lovely place to be enjoyed throughout the year, been hiking this spot for over 6 years still finding new footpaths and trails, recently visited in the month of September and got to pick some delicious blackberries and apples, which were so sweet and crunchy. Trail is flat with some incline and steps in places, but overall an easy hike, seems very popular with dog walkers, great views from the top, couple of swings which my little one loves. Would recommend this place.

Lovely place. I really liked the chalk outcrop it looked quite surreal. There are also the moleskin and markham hills near by as part of the same National Trust site. Great views out over the hills from here. There is a good amount of parking and it's a lovely place to take a picnic. I would recommend a visit.

Linford Lakes Nature Reserve is a picturesque area in the Ouse Valley, Milton Keynes, offering a lovely cycling and walking route along the Hanslope Circular Ride. The reserve requires a permit for access and prohibits cycling within its boundaries. Visitors can explore four hides to observe diverse wildlife, including barn owls, cuckoos, common terns in warmer months, and bitterns, great white egrets, short eared owls in winter.
Worth the membership cost. Lots of bird hides, and there's one right next to an incredibly well stocked feeding station, which attracts all sorts of wildlife!
Jack F — Google review
The nature reserves is really pretty with wooden pathways and a collection of birds. The reason for 3 stars is that is costs 20 pounds for entrance/annual membership, yet the visitor centre is closed for renovation for a long time now, and bird feeders aren't being replenished. A single entrance of £5 or free would be more appropriate, especially given there's plenty of free nature reserves the same distance from London.

Hidden Gem, All credit to the staff and volunteers for working so hard to keep the site well maintained being friendly enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. Note this is a Quiet Nature Reserve I would not recommend it unless you are reasonable quiet and respectfully reserved 😉

Beautiful nature reserve. The visitors centre is currently scaffolded and is inaccessible, but the overflow car park is still open. The paths are well maintained. We were only able to do a short walk, but it felt very peaceful. We especially liked the warbler hide.

Great space for wildlife. Being members only means it's quiet, and no dogs allowed so great place to see wildlife. No toilets on site

Great closest Nature Reserve Experience for locals. Plenty of Birds to observe, 6 hideouts for spotters (5 in Park and 1 in main building). As this is nature reserve with sensitive animals dogs are not allowed. Great opportunity is every 3rd Sunday of month when Reserve is open to All, so take Your Binoculars, Cameras, Wifes, Kids, Friends, Lovers, Aliens and visit this place to enjoy pure nature. For nature enthusiast like me there is cheap membership which you can buy online then You can get everyday access. I really recommend visiting this place and i'm a bit upset i discovered it so late! Be aware it's my honest opinion it's not a paid advert and i'm not related with ParksTrust.

Hiking area
Nestled within the enchanting woods of the Ashridge estate, the Bridgewater Monument stands as a tribute to Francis Egerton, the 3rd Duke of Bridgewater, who is celebrated as the "father of inland navigation." Erected in 1832, this impressive 108-foot tower not only commemorates his contributions to canal construction during England's Industrial Revolution but also offers visitors a glimpse into history.
Great monument with amazing views from the top. As a National Trust member we were able to go up it for free and it was well worth climbing the 174 spiral steps to the top. Amazing views although the possible pollution haze meant that the far away views were a little lost in the cloud. Well worth visiting along with the cafe and NT shop next door, and the beautiful walks through Ashridge forest too.
Karen B — Google review
A Grade II* listed structure built in 1832 to commemorate Francis Egerton, 3rd Duke of Bridgewater, often called the "father of British inland navigation" for his pioneering work on canals. The monument, a 108-foot tall and offers panoramic views from its viewing platform, accessible by 172 steps. Unfortunately it wasn't open the day we went, so check the website before you go if you want to go to the top, plenty of Free parking.

Such an amazing monument to go up. It doesn’t look as high as it is from the ground, but the views are spectacular and you’ll feel on top of the world. You can see all the landscapes across Ashridge and beyond. In October you can see so many trees in different shades of red, yellow and green! It’s quite a demanding walk up the stairs but you’ll be glad you went up. Entry was £2.50 for adults, £1 for concessions and free for under 5s. Worth it! One thing I will mention is that the monument is home to thousands of ladybirds in the right season. Never seen so many in my life. Easily hundreds gathered at a time under lights and in crevices

Bridgewater Monument offers breathtaking views and is of historic significance. The National Trust staff was lovely and friendly. Stairs are tight and not easy for kids to reach to the top. Top viewing area is displayed with all the important landmarks and the direction to see them is clearly marked. Don’t forget to take binoculars which are provided as a part of your ticket. Must do!

A beautiful place to visit as right in the woods. Parking is free but is often a free for all but well worth it. Lovely walk through the woods on easy terrain paths. Bluebells make the visit fantastic. I recommend taking a picnic as cafe always has a VERY long queue as do the toilets. I also recommend walking away from the main amenities as then you hear and see more birds, may see deer etc as people's dogs easily frighten them off. Good visit any time of year.

Striking monument in beautiful woodland. Small natural play area for kids and lots of scope for den building. Nestled just a short stroll from the Lions pub in Bledlow, The Lyde Gardens is a charming hidden water garden that was once a watercress bed. This serene oasis invites visitors to immerse themselves in its lush greenery, featuring an array of ferns, primulas, and astilbes alongside gently flowing streams. With free access, it’s the perfect spot for those seeking tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
A beautiful peaceful spot, my first visit with my grandson and son. Stunning planting. An oasis to be explored again. Lots of steps, some nicely positioned benches to enjoy the ambience
Caroline B — Google review
The Lyde Garden in Bledlow is a serene hidden gem that offers a tranquil escape into nature. Nestled within a sunken aquatic landscape, this garden is a testament to thoughtful design and natural beauty. The meandering pathways lead visitors through lush plantings of primulas, astilbes, gunnera, and hostas, creating a vibrant tapestry of colors and textures. The garden's history as former watercress beds adds a unique character, with the gentle flow of the Lyde stream enhancing the peaceful ambiance. It's an ideal spot for quiet reflection, photography, or simply enjoying the sounds of nature. The absence of modern amenities like cafés or restrooms underscores its charm as a place of undisturbed natural beauty. However, visitors should note that the garden is open at the owner's discretion from 9 am to 4 pm daily, and dogs are not permitted. While these restrictions may limit some, they also help preserve the garden's pristine condition. In summary, The Lyde Garden offers a delightful retreat for those seeking solace amidst nature. Its rich history, diverse plant life, and tranquil setting make it a worthwhile visit. Just be prepared for a rustic experience, and you'll find it a rewarding destination.

A lovely little space with free access for some peace and quiet. Nothing here - no cafe, no toilets just a nice little walk with benches to sit and chill. Next to the church, no car park, park in the street. Not wheelchair friendly- narrow gravel paths and steep steps. Marlow is such a lovely town — peaceful, scenic, and full of charm. We spent a wonderful day at Higginson Park, which is beautifully maintained and perfect for a relaxing walk or picnic by the river. The highlight was hiring a boat from The Little Green Boat Company. The staff were so friendly and explained everything clearly, making us feel comfortable right away. Cruising along the Thames was an unforgettable experience — calm water, stunning views, and total relaxation. A perfect way to enjoy the natural beauty of Marlow. Highly recommended!

Jan F — Google review
Beautiful park, with the river running beside it, great for walks with the family. Also, lovely update to the children's play park. My two had lots of fun climbing and swinging on numerous apparatus. The benefit of having a fence around the play park helps keep my mind at peace too. With two kids you're always with one and watching the other over your shoulder. Knowing they are safe with the fencing around helps a lot with any anxious feeling on the day.

Went here recently as my wife was doing a charity walk that went over Marlow bridge. This park is a brilliant place people of all ages, but especially those with young children. The play park is really good and has a great range of equipment for all ages of child. It's also right on the banks of the Thames so a great place for watching boats and wildlife. The cafe is lovely and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The toilets were in very good condition and very clean.

Great for picnics on sunny days or to Moor up & chill on your boat. Moorings are owned by the council and are the most expensive on the Thames, but typically council they are poorly maintained with mooring posts about to fall into the river, probably with your boat floating downstream with them. Great location close to high street shops & bars.

A wonderful discovery especially is late April and May when the incredible rhododendrons bloom occurs. Walk through amazing colourful paths which twist and turn so you don’t miss a single bloom. Planted over 100 years ago rhododendrons grow into massive tree like bushes . When your colour vision has been gorged look up to see Wellington fir trees from California well over 150 years old. These giant trees can be seen across the entire site. Then walk down towards the pond and into the Arboretum to see more spectacular giant trees. Follow the path to the point which is overlooked by the 5* hotel. Have coffee in the well run cafe or bring a picnic. Parking is easy although can be busy. once parked the busy feeling will disappear Enjoy !

College Lake Nature Reserve, managed by the Berks, Bucks & Oxen Wildlife Trust, is a thriving 220-hectare reserve that was once a chalk quarry. It now features wetlands and grasslands teeming with diverse wildlife species such as lapwings, redshanks, wigeons, teals, and the small blue butterfly. Visitors can observe the wildlife from various hides or the eco-visitor and education center.
A lovely place to visit on a sunny Autumn day. It comprises a large lake with trails around which takes about an hour to get round at a relaxed pace. It is recognised as a nature reserve for various birds and has various lookouts placed around the lake for enthusiasts. A welcome centre includes a cafeteria with outside seating. A fairly large car park also. There is no published entry fee but they used to operate a voluntary donation system. This was not in evidence on this latest visit.

Go off the beaten path to find picnic spots and even find breeds of sheep / cows at certain times. Rabbits too!

College Lake is a lovely place to visit, offering a peaceful walk surrounded by nature. There are three trails to choose from, with the Wild Trail being the longest circular route at 2 miles (about 3.2 km), while the Time Trail is the shortest. Upon arrival, you’re given a map to help navigate the trails. Parking is free, though donations are welcome—we contributed £3. The Visitor Centre has a small gift shop selling hats, gloves, scarves, and books (both second-hand and new), along with ornaments, mugs, and tumblers. Right next to it is a café, open until 3 PM. The kitchen was short-staffed during our visit, so orders took a little longer, but the staff worked hard to keep things moving. The walk itself is mostly on surfaced paths with gentle slopes, making it accessible for many visitors. However, some sections can get quite muddy, so proper footwear is a good idea. I noticed a few seniors using mobility scooters, so it seems quite accessible. There are also birdwatching huts along the way, which is a nice touch for nature lovers. We visited on a beautiful day, and it was a great outing for the family. Overall, it’s a peaceful spot for a relaxing walk and some wildlife watching. Would definitely recommend it for a casual day out!

Nuffield Place, the former home of Lord Nuffield, founder of the Morris Motor Company, is a delightful destination that offers visitors a glimpse into the life of an extraordinary philanthropist. Nestled in picturesque surroundings, this charming house is filled with original furnishings and exudes a warm atmosphere. The knowledgeable volunteers are eager to share fascinating stories about Lord Nuffield's generous contributions to various causes. Although the gardens are modest in size, they boast beautiful blossoms that enhance the overall experience.
A great place and a great private residence of a very humble and successful man who piled his fortune with shear hard work. The place is modest by any standard but tastefully decorated with the furniture and decor of the day. Very fascinating peep into the lives of a great couple.

Nuffield Place near Henley on Thames was the home of car manufacturer and philanthropist William Morris ( later Lord Nuffield ) the owner of the Morris motor company. At one stage Morris was the richest man in the UK but chose to buy a relatively modest home given his wealth. He was never wasteful and would not spend his money if he didn't need to. The arts and craft house was altered and extended but not always in keeping with the houses design and somewhat spoiling it's beauty. The house is pretty much as they left it, a family home with many personal items on show. There are many rooms to see including the bedroom with a workshop! There are references to his philanthropy including an iron lung on display, he donated many of these throughout the commonwealth. National Trust room guides are on hand to give you some additional information which I always enjoy. Outside, the gardens are pretty, not vast but very pleasant to walk around, there are garden tours on some days, there is also a short woodland walk. On site there is free parking, you will find a refreshment hut serving drinks and light snacks. There are toilets on site too plus a second hand book shop and gift shop. Entry is free for National Trust members

Nuffield Place, originally named Merrow Mount, was built in 1914 and later purchased by William Morris, (the founder of Morris Motors and the Iron lung) in 1933. He became Lord Nuffield in 1934. It became his country home and remained in his possession until his death in 1963. The property was then bequeathed to Nuffield College, Oxford, which later transferred ownership to the National Trust in 2011. We really loved this place, my advice is to visit small National Trust places throughout the week, you almost get them to yourselves. Check their website first, as they are only open on certain days. Definitely worth a visit if you're a National Trust member or interested in the Morris car.
Pete H — Google review
Can’t believe I didn’t know more about Viscount Nuffield (William Morris - of the car and not the wallpaper!) - one of England’s most generous philanthropists. Such an interesting life, told by our knowledgable guide (although in the afternoon you can self-guide I believe). Good coffee (and snacks) van in the gardens (also lovely to stroll round).
Julia O — Google review
A wonderful place and a very relaxing atmosphere to visit. We went here to also see the history behind Morris Motors and were taken aback by the facts. Lord Nuffield has done very good service and the place deserves an applause. 👏
Nagaraj T — Google review
Being a bit of a car nut & petrol head I was unaware of this NT property once belonging to William Morris, (later Lord Nuffield) founder of Morris motor cars. He ended up being one of the world’s richest men and gave most of his fortune away including this fairly plain “normal” 1930s style home. The reason I believe why he is not that much known about or his charitable donations (founding a college at Oxford & a private healthcare company etc) is because of his support for extreme right wing parties at that time etc which is only briefly covered during some of the in house information about his life. He apparently renounced a lot of the fascist ideologies in his later years. Nice compact gardens.

Wonderful place to enjoy with your kids, an ideal place to walk, picnic and adventure on the water. Great for family, safe play grounds & plenty of space to explore! As well as reasonable parking fee with plenty of space of parking.
Farwin S — Google review
Loads of space to explore. Plenty of space to have a picnic even when it is busy season. We have been a couple of times. Our kids enjoyed the splash area and enough open space to run around. Play area is popular. Not much food options inside the boundaries but can find places few minutes away

Willen Lake is one of the nicest spots in Milton Keynes for a relaxed day out with family, friends, or even solo. .While the experience at the lake was great, the parking situation really let it down. The car park is ANPR camera-controlled (number plate recognition), and the system is extremely unforgiving.

Beautiful place! Lovely walk. Peaceful feel.

Willen Lake in Milton Keynes is amazing! It's a beautiful lake that Man made. It's taken care of really well and there's a ton of stuff for kids to do, like a cool play areas, a café, water sports, and even a restaurant. Oh, and don't forget about the ice cream trucks – yum! Parking is easy, which is awesome. My family and I go there a lot because they have nice walks and even some outdoor gym stuff. They also have this big trail thing that's super fun. I totally love this place. The lake is so pretty, and there's so much to do. It's relaxing and exciting all at once. In summer you can do lots of activities includes water play, obstacle course, water play area for kids and peddle boat rides.
Yusra A — Google review
A great day out with loads to do. Hired cycle buggies which were great fun to cycle around the lake in with friends although quite expensive. Daughter went on the big wheel and really enjoyed the views. Toilets clean and parking easy.

Denham Country Park, nestled in Uxbridge, is a delightful escape into nature that offers an array of activities for visitors. With its scenic trails winding through lush landscapes and alongside the tranquil rivers Colne and Misbourne, it's an ideal spot for leisurely walks or invigorating hikes. Families can enjoy the playground while adults relax at the cozy café with views of local wildlife. The park also features a charming paddling beach perfect for warm days.
Beautiful country park and scenery. Peaceful, quiet and can cover a decent 10k walk if needed. Can make a good day out of it especially when the weather is nice and warm. Try visiting the bar/restaurant that had many tables and chairs outside to just enjoy the music and have some food and drink.

It was peaceful, quiet, and full of beauty. The flowers were colorful, the air was fresh, and the soft sound of birds made everything feel calm. There were only a few people around, which made the place feel even more special. It was a perfect place to relax and feel close to nature.✨🌻🌱🌳🪽

There is no parking available here, but you can park in the colne parking area and walk to this park. It was a beautiful trail along the lake. Sunset view was good. Lots of space for children to play. There are numerous trails through the forest which was quite great. Autumn colored leaves were splendid and great to take pictures.

Great spot for a family day out! Lovely walking trails, peaceful riverside views, and a nice little play area for kids. The on-site café had good coffee and snacks, and there’s a food and education centre nearby too. Perfect mix of nature, space to relax, and easy access. We’ll definitely be back!

Good country park not so far from the A40 right at the start of Buckinghamshire. We parked just before the golf course by the playground and the children's pond. There are several trails depending on your capability and mood. We took the leisurely stroll to the grand canal and saw quite a few (what looked like) abandoned boats. My children liked seeing the cows along the way and the boats brought out inquisitive questions from my 6 year old. The playground is adventure themed and even has a sandpit which my kids enjoyed. As this is right in between nature, the paths can be narrow and laden with stinging nettles. We also saw a lot of cow dung and dog poop, which again is not safe for kids. It is NOT signposted very well so you have to walk quite a bit to find anything worthwhile seeing.

Amazing open space and a woodland. The images is part of the walk through on the golf range there

Went on a beautiful sunny day at the end of March. Birdsong, butterflies, bees, trees, rivers, lakes and canal - what's not to like? Fabulous walks. The visitor centre and cafe closed by the time I got back at 15:30 so recommend you check closing times as the toilets close with the centre. Car parking more expensive than College Lake but still a lovely place to visit.

Quite a nice visit to Denham, the park has a few areas which are crudely fenced off and it can be hard to find your way about. There are some nicer parks but this one is pretty good. It wasn’t too busy with other people while I was there, I would visit again. It’s very hard to find if you’re using sat nav. Parking is not free.

Historical landmark
Coombe Hill Monument is a stunning destination for those seeking an invigorating outdoor experience. Nestled in the picturesque Chiltern Hills, this site offers a moderately challenging seven-mile circular walk that showcases the region's breathtaking chalk grasslands and woodlands.
It's a really lovely view from up there! Quite windy! Easy walk and good access for prams etc. Cows were mostly friendly, but we were climbing a tree and they came closer and closer and we were getting surrounded. They got a bit spooked when my husband jumped down from the tree, and one of them showed slight aggression soon after that so we backed away and left the tree to them. Carpark was busy (but not full) despite not the best forecast so I imagine it might fill up quickly on a nice day!

Coombe hill is an absolute gem. A peaceful, scenic spot perfect for relaxation and taking in breathtaking views of Aylesbury and the surrounding countryside. Whether you are looking for a quiet walk, a place to unwind, or simply a stunning vantage point, this spot delivers. Watching the sunset from here is truly amazing. Another plus, there’s ample car parking space, so you don’t have to worry about finding a spot. Highly recommended for nature lovers, photographers, or anyone in need of a little serenity. A 5-star experience every time.

Towering war memorial overlooking expansive views across Buckinghamshire, with landmarks including Chequers and the town of Aylesbury visible on a clear day. A great place for a scenic walk and ideal for dog walks, with a mix of woodland and open country. The walk from the parking area to the monument only takes a few minutes, with well signposted paths and opportunities for longer walks off the National Trust land and along the Ridgeway. There's a small picnic area near the parking area, though no other facilities are provided at this site, preserving it as an area of unspoilt countryside.

Historic remembrance monument. Lovely panoramic views over the Chilterns. Nice place to have a break before continuing to hike

Great place to visit and walk. Dog friendly, but please keep your dog on a lead when livestock are on the land. Access to the Ridgeway and also many other walks. Lovely views across the Vale and a great place for a picnic or just to watch the sunset.

Wow! What an incredible place!! Nice hill place where you can see whole county.. plenty Parking space The Coombe Hill Monument near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, is a remarkable landmark commemorating the Buckinghamshire men who perished in the Second Boer War. Erected in 1904, this impressive monument stands proudly on the highest point of the Chiltern Hills, offering visitors breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. On clear days, the vistas stretch as far as the Cotswolds and Oxfordshire, making it a popular spot for hikers, photographers, and history enthusiasts. The ascent to the monument, though steep in parts, rewards with scenic beauty and tranquility. Well-maintained paths cater to various walking levels, making it accessible for families and casual walkers. Managed by the National Trust, the site is kept in excellent condition, with informative plaques and guided trails enhancing the visitor experience. The monument itself, designed in a classical style with a poignant inscription, stands as a solemn tribute to the fallen soldiers. The surrounding area is home to diverse wildlife and seasonal flora, providing a picturesque setting that changes with the seasons. Ideal for picnics and nature walks, Coombe Hill offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of nearby towns. Overall, the Coombe Hill Monument is a destination that beautifully combines historical reverence, natural beauty, and outdoor activity.

Been coming to this spot for around 40 years - because of the great views and the easy access from the car park - a relatively flat walk taking about 15 - 20 minutes. There is usually a brisk wind blowing as you near the monument which you often can’t feel until you are about 20 metres away. In recent times you need to look out for cow pats that have rather spoiled the experience as cows are now allowed to graze the area. The other way to access the monument is to hike up the steep climb from butler’s cross which is how l discovered it in the first place.
