Nestled in the picturesque Leicestershire countryside, Foxton Locks Inn is a delightful country pub and restaurant that offers a warm and inviting atmosphere. With its charming wood-beamed interiors and a lovely covered terrace overlooking the historic Grand Union Canal's impressive staircase locks, it's an ideal spot to unwind after exploring the scenic surroundings. The inn serves up delicious home-cooked meals alongside award-winning real ales, making it perfect for both casual visits and special occasions.
I haven't been here since I was a teenager! in those days there wasn't even mains electricity! there was a generator out the back in a shed, how things have changed, absolutely lovely place, canalside setting, tasteful decor, stunning views and fabulous food, honestly, the carvery is to die for! I'll post some photos, the food is as good as it looks, the staff are wonderful, friendly and efficient, once you've had you're fill, there's Foxton Locks themselves, an amazing piece of engineering and a fabulous view from the top lock, all in all a great place to while away a few hours and get a fabulous feed

Had a very disappointing Chicken Caesar Salad. Chicken was cold rather than freshly cooked warm, the croutons were as hard a rock, and the Parmesan was as tasteless as the dressing. I finished with Eaton Mess - another disappointing episode. The meringue had no chewiness and wasn’t even combined with the fruit and cream. What sounded good on the page didn’t deliver on the plate. Staff pleasant and atmosphere good too. Idilic location.
Richard E — Google review
Lovely atmosphere, seating available outside close to the canal and if the weather isn't so good the conservatory offers a lovely seating area overlooking the canal. Dog friendly both outside and in, the menu was a little limited but good quality ingredients.

❤️ Foxton Locks & like the Inn. We had coffee at the Inn, which we enjoyed on the patio overlooking the water, where swans entertained us to a territory fight. Staff are friendly & helpful. Attractive ladies' toilets.
Liz ( — Google review
Food is great, views of the canal are great! We went when the lock itself was closed so it wasn’t very busy, fantastic place to stubble across on a Saturday morning! (They use Heinz beans for breakfast, and they also have good bbq sauce too!)
Tristan M — Google review
Great place to stop on a long journey Great food been twice yet to see a canal boat going through!
Kieran S — Google review
Nice pub right on the locks with a good choice of smaller lunch meals as well as main dishes. Nice pub garden. Perfect spot if visiting the Foxton Locks area.

What a find, fantastic food. Had a delicious hot roast sandwich and it was fantastic, lovely thick cut granary bread, with cranberry and lovely thick slices of roast turkey, with crisps and side salad. Really a delicious sandwich, followed by the most divine tasting lemon cheese cake. Will definitely be back 👍

Pub
Restaurant
Nestled in the charming village of Sutton Cheney, "Hercules Revived" is a delightful establishment that has been captivating visitors since its inception in 2003. This inviting bar, restaurant, and hotel offers a warm atmosphere perfect for both casual drinkers and those seeking a memorable dining experience. The historic 18th-century coaching inn features an array of events like wine-tasting lunches and gin festivals, making it a vibrant hub for locals and travelers alike.
Where to begin with one of the best restraunts I have every been too. I have eaten here many times and it is never a dissapointment. There attention to detail and service is amazing, and you feel very welcom as you enter this breathtaking pub / restraunt. It is nestled in a quaint little village of Sutton Cheney with views over the beautiful church grounds and roling english fields to the back. The food is exceptional with a great selection of choices. I would say spend extra time on the Starters and Deserts as they are absolutley amazing. One of our favorite things to order is the wide cut chips and the blue cheese sauce to dip in! I had the burger for lunch today and my wife had the tomato pesto baquette. They both were so good and enjoyed the atmosphere of te restraunt as well. If you are near Sutton Cheney do not miss this restaurant and have a marvelous meal.

We had a lovely time with family today, the 1st time some of us had been, but was recommended by others in our group who have been previously who live local. Food was very nice, attentive staff but never over baring. Allow dogs so a definite plus in our book.
Linda F — Google review
Well, it looks quite small from the front but far from it. There is plenty of outside space and carpark. Inside staff are really friendly and they a good choice of alcohol free drinks available. We came on a Sunday so went for the Sunday lunch. Unfortunately, I only got a pic of the starter as I was too excited when lunch came out. My partner had the carrot and coriander soup. Great fresh flavour and a nice peppery finish. I had smoked salmon with pink grapefruit, and it was flavourful and fresh and really great combination. We had mixed roast with pork and beef. It came with the most delicious braised red cabbage, and it had a fruity twang. Pork was by far the best I have had in a while. Full of flavour and juicy. Yorkshire pudding was light and crispy. The potatoes were....oh my goodness.....so good crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. All the veg were cooked and seasoned really well, and we opted for broccoli cheese. I have to say again, really nice flavour of cheese, which sounds ridiculous but often doesn't have a cheesy flavour. Really throughly enjoyed and will be going again. Dessert was so good. I had sticky toffee pudding and the sponge was light but slightly burnt on the bottom which effected the taste a bit. Sauce was sweet and icecream was amazing....salted caramel which had crispy bits in. My partner had the raspberry cheesecake woth basil and it was incredible. Super creamy and sweet and fresh with this light undertone of refreshing basil. Would have that again in a heart beat. Overall a really great meal with a few flavour twists that we really enjoyed and would have again.
Laura W — Google review
Really nice place and would recommend. The food was great and the latte was superb with a lovely biscuit on the side. Baguette was good, filling and ingredients good quality. Wedge of cheese was superb value for money and service friendly. Hopefully will return, Thankyou.

Cannot recommend Hercules Revived enough! Very warm welcome when you arrive and the decor and ambiance is lovely. The staff are helpful, knowledgeable and attentive. The food is out of this world delicious. Fantastic price for the daytime menu 3 courses for £25.50 wow! I will be wanting to come here again and again!
Victoria H — Google review
I visited Hercules Revived with my boyfriend for a Sunday Roast and had a lovely experience. The special that day featured both beef and pork, so we tried one of each. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was welcoming. I’d happily return!
Victoria A — Google review
Excellent place! Utterly delicious food, excellent service from Caden who represents the pub so well, fabulous and interesting menu and lovely location. So highly recommended - best Sunday lunch in a long time - beef like butter, perfectly cooked veg, good ale and excellent wine… so we’re returning tomorrow evening! A great find we shall regularly be returning to. Thank you!
Jane D — Google review
My second time to this pub/ restaurant which was even better than the first time. The food has improved so much, they're really trying and succeeding to be more than your average pub. I had the salon and prawn ceviche - divine and the sea bream special which was light, but satisfying. My only criticism is the lighting level downstairs is too bright, the atmosphere isn't quite right, the music should be louder and have some candles on too. Apart from that a nearly perfect 5* thanks guys I can't wait to return.

Cow and Plough is a charming rustic pub located in old farm buildings, offering a delightful selection of locally brewed beers and hosting weekly jazz lunches. Situated in LE2, it provides a countryside ambiance while being conveniently close to the city center. Adjacent to the newly opened farm shop, Stoughton Grange Distillery, and soon-to-open Farm Park, this establishment offers an idyllic setting for visitors.
Been a regular here for more years than I care to say. The service is very good and the staff friendly and helpful. Cellar is well kept and there is a choice of ales and lagers, including alcohol free. The venue offers a wide variety of spirits and cocktails as well as hot drink. Food is very good and the pizzas are the best in Leicester! The venue is dog friendly. Good parking. Overall a great pub/restaurant with atmosphere! Special mention for the superb staff, Ben, Christian, Georgia, Kerry, James, Sophie and Tom 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Thank you so much for the delicious cream tea on my birthday! It was absolutely excellent. I've had cream tea at the Waldorf hotel before, but yours was 100% better! I highly recommend it to anyone looking to indulge in a lovely treat. If you're planning to try it, I advise booking it at The Cow and Plough – you won't be disappointed! Thank you again for your thoughtfulness and for making my birthday so special.

This was my first time visiting this pub and I was genuinely impressed. The vibe was warm and welcoming, with a friendly and family-oriented atmosphere. The customer service was excellent—staff were attentive and polite throughout. The food was absolutely delicious and exceeded expectations. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend this place to others!
Tina G — Google review
I organised a baby shower for a lovely friend of mine. The service I was given was outstanding. Janice’s response to emails was amazing. She helped so much. The chef who made our afternoon was also very accommodating, especially with the mum-to-be having gestational diabetes. I have to say it’s the first place that has accommodated for gestational diabetes for the afternoon tea and made a separate dessert. Some lovely banana bread. The amount of sweet treats you get in their afternoon tea is more than you would ever get anywhere else. I would definitely recommend eating there too. The Sunday roasts are amazing too.
Anisha P — Google review
Called ahead a week before to check they could cater for vegans for Sunday roast and was told they could and even told they could go off menu. Added vegan to the booking as an additional note too. Unfortunately, on the day I was offered potatoes and vegetables. The other option was a salad (pictured) or a vegan pizza. The small salad was £15.95. Not much else to be said. The other people I was with enjoyed their meat roasts and the service was good. It's just really disappointing that they can't cater well for all, especially as this was a celebratory meal. Not for me, but meat eaters will enjoy the roasts.
Amy H — Google review
Lovely evening out with a bunch of colleagues. Everyone enjoyed their food. The menu had great choices and lots of options to cater for dietary and allergen needs. The food was well presented, and the flavours were great. The portions were very generous, we had to have a big break before desserts! We wandered around the farm and were able to get ourselves ready for our desserts, which did not disappoint. If you don't fancy the full works, their pizzas are great as are their snacks. Allow yourself plenty of time if you come in the day and pay a visit to the farm shop and there's a gin distillery too. The service and the team were exceptional. This is a huge plus as the place is always busy. Nothing is ever too much trouble.

This restaurant offers a fantastic British menu and dining experience. The service was really friendly and our host, Kate, understood the menu and wine list really well. For what you get it was incredible value. We had two starters followed by the pork and fish and chips, all delicious and superbly presented

Loved this Restaurant with speakeasy entrance to the tables. The staff are so friendly and attentive, prices are good for a city centre. We had an amazing meal. Lovely background music too. We stayed at a local hotel and got 10% off our bill.

We were today at this place that we've always wanted to visit for a long time and I think it was worth the wait... upon entering the first impression was a very cozy environment, everything impeccable and an excellent atmosphere. We were served by Emily, she was very polite, patient and kind, the food was excellent, we will definitely become regular customers!

Kate and Kayla my waitresses were so lovely and welcoming, they made me feel right at home and were on point with the service they provided, the food was to die for as well, I had the fish and chips and no word of a lie it was the best I’ve ever had in my entire life, the fish was seasoned and battered to perfection it was delicious, the chips and peas were also some of the nicest I’ve had and the capers and pickled onions were a nice little touch to add to the dish, the chefs certainly know what they are doing, would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a proper pub grub around Leicester, I promise it won’t disappoint

Soar Point Leicester is a popular student pub known for its affordable drinks, tasty food, and live sports. It's a great spot to unwind with friends by the scenic River Soar, offering discounts for students through their Uni Crew program. The lively atmosphere and picturesque views of the canal make it an ideal place to enjoy street food-inspired dishes like karaage-coated chicken tacos and stone-baked pizzas.
Came here as a group for bottomless brunch. Food was great, drinks went down perfectly and the staffs service was great. We were served by Sam and Candy and we had a great time, the atmosphere was fab. We will definitely be back
Isobel C — Google review
Soar Point in Leicester is a fantastic bar that offers a great atmosphere, especially for students, but it is welcoming to anyone looking for a relaxed and fun place to hang out. There is plenty of seating available, including large tables that are perfect for groups, so it is easy to come here with friends and all sit together comfortably. The space is well thought out and caters to different needs, whether you are there for food, drinks, games, or just to chill. There are loads of screens showing sports, pool tables to enjoy, board games on the shelves, and even a photo booth for some extra fun. The outdoor seating area looks out onto the water which gives it a really nice touch. One of the best parts is the regular deals on both food and drinks throughout the week, and they even host a bingo night on Thursdays which adds a fun twist. Another great feature is the availability of USB ports and plug sockets around the bar. I have brought my laptop here a few times to get some work done, and the environment is really chilled and comfortable for that. The staff are always friendly and helpful which creates a very welcoming vibe. The only downside is the very strong smell of urine in the toilets, which is quite unpleasant and really lets the place down. Aside from that issue, Soar Point is a cool, student-friendly venue that is well worth a visit whether you are looking to relax, watch sports, socialise, or get a bit of work done.
Harvean R — Google review
Nice pub on the River Soar bank. Nice atmosphere, cosy place and good food at a reasonable price. One of the few left which serves authentic Real Ales and Crafts ciders!

Nice place, lots of beers, wings day on wednesdays. I cannot believe "racism" accusations in reviews (I am not british). I haven't witnessed any racism in 2 years I've been in Leicester. I strongly recommend the place. Very nice place to have different beers next to river.

It's definitely a pub to visit while you're in Leicester. The atmosphere is awesome! You can play pool, play vintage video games, and drink to your hearts delight. The food is great while also hosting a load of sports games on TVs all around the venue. Believe me, give it a try!

Located in Croxton Kerrial, The Geese and Fountain is a charming village pub that warmly welcomes dogs and their owners. After exploring the unspoilt English countryside of The Vale of Belvoir, visitors can relax at this dog-friendly establishment with a sprawling beer garden. The pub offers a variety of local beers brewed within 40 miles, as well as wines from organic vineyards around the world. Guests can also enjoy delicious food, including a recommended tasting platter.
Stayed 2 nights over Easter with my 3 dogs. A group of friends also stayed. Fantastically comfortable beds, well stocked tea/coffee tray ( those ginger geese biscuits are amazing) Lovely toiletries too...the shower gel and shampoo were much needed as I forgot mine. Well stocked bar, with a huge selection of wines, beers, ales and ciders. The food is exceptional and there's plenty of it. The breakfast is just the best. Lots of choice for veggies too. The staff are very welcoming, friendly and efficient. Morning dog walks are easy as the pub is located in a lovely village surrounded by beautiful countryside. This was possibly my 6th stay and I'll definitely be back.

This is a lovely country pub with accommodation. The friendly landlord is a devotee of real ale but also stocks a wide craft beer selection of cans, bottles and keg beers. There is a good wine list and an extensive menu. Motorhome and campervan owners are welcome to use the car park overnight whether they eat at the pub or not but breakfasts are first class!
Cliff P — Google review
Came for a birthday meal, very quiet pub, staff friendly. Food was dissapointing though, Being the first ones in there and only 3 of us, food took a while to come out. Main course was odd, duck with roast potatoes and peppers, not a combination I would choose. Deserts were the most dissapointing, cheesecake was possibly on the turn and £6 for a chocolate shot Hardly a desert. We won't be coming back.
Samantha J — Google review
This was my salmon and couscous dinner. Lovely. Husband had pie and chips (the best bit of the meal was those goose fat fried chips!). They also made us welcome to stay in the pub car park overnight which was ideal as a stopover. Gorgeous village to explore and great dog walks, one with a view of Belvoir Castle.
Penny L — Google review
The food here is amazing. Nothing is too much trouble and the chef will customise your meal to suit your dietary requirements. I've been twice and the food was outstanding on each visit. The prices are reasonable - my only regret was not having room to try dessert. Make sure you have the mini chorizo - they are simply the best anywhere!

Great beer choice(Camra East Mids 2019 winner) Excellent food with pleasant and helpful staff. As good as a country pub could be.

I stayed here recently and had dinner and breakfast there. Both meals were excellent. There was a good choice of drinks at the bar and staff were friendly and helpful at all times. Talking to the chef, it was obvious he had a passion for food and for perfecting his dishes before adding to the menu. A group of us stayed whilst on a cycling trip in the area and we were all very happy with our stay.

The most amazing wonderful food. I had a salad made for me. It was absolutely Divine. It was like a treasure trove of flavours. Reading this you might think ^ it only a salad ^ But I can assure you it was a most remarkable dinning experience of the highest quality. The most exciting tasty salad I have ever had in my life. The chef is so talented and skilled. The service was wondering too. Highly highly recommended

Nestled in the heart of Birstall, The Old Plough is a charming pub that has recently reopened its doors after a brief hiatus. Under the experienced management team from the nearby White Horse, this family-friendly establishment offers a warm and inviting atmosphere perfect for both locals and visitors alike. While it may not serve full meals, patrons can indulge in delightful bar snacks, with their cobs being particularly noteworthy—some claim they are the best around!
Went for a lunchtime jazz session, great ale, great food , albeit cobs sausage rolls pork pies crisps they were excellent, staff very friendly, great atmosphere for chilling out!
Paul K — Google review
I’ve traveled around all the pubs in Leicester and the surrounding villages, rating the cobs as I go along. These cobs are by far the best I’ve had. Absolute perfection a block of cheese with rings of onion, placed between the best cobs you could ask for. If I could give this cob 10* I would. If you’re in the area I fully recommend going in for that glorious cob you won’t find anywhere else.

Mark C — Google review
This Pub re-opened in 2024 after a period of closure, it is now under the same very experienced management as the White Horse down the lane. Dropped a star as I feel the selection of cask ales could be better, otherwise an excellent traditional proper village pub where you can take your dog. Note it's a pub not a restaurant, therefore the only food available are cobs and bar snacks.
Ian F — Google review
Fantastic traditional pub. Friendly staff. Nice pint of pedigree. Great atmosphere. Didn't eat there, so I can not comment on food provided
Clive R — Google review
Friendly atmosphere and good ale with live entertainment. Also dog friendly too.
Lynda P — Google review
Proper pub. Warm and friendly atmosphere, reasonably priced bar food and good beers. The landlord also has an excellent selection of whiskies. In addition to this people with dogs should not be put off visiting as our well behaved four legged friends are welcome.
Steve T — Google review
A classic 'Local's' pub off the main drag that has numerous guesting beers! Perfect for a good pint and sociable moment or friendly chat be you a neighbor or not. (I'm not and always get a chirpy word from one of the locals.) Not seen any food served here so don't plan on a meal unless you check it out before coming.

Bradgate Park is a renowned beauty spot in Leicestershire, spanning 830 acres and offering a variety of attractions. Visitors can explore footpaths, encounter peacocks and fallow deer, and enjoy the playground and stream. The park also boasts the ruins of Lady Jane Grey's childhood home. It is home to over 550 Red and Fallow deer that freely roam the area.
Lovely park, stunning backdrop with plenty of dears, you feel like you could be in the Scottish Highlands at times. Picturesque place which is great for walking, whether it's a ramble up to Old John Tower, a rummage in the woods, or a dip in the stream. Highly recommend for dog walkers and families to get out into the fresh air!!

Bradgate Park is truly a gem, an incredible place to unwind, take a long walk, and just breathe. It's the kind of spot where nature does all the talking. The landscape is vast and beautiful, with open spaces, ancient trees, and a peaceful atmosphere that helps you disconnect from everyday life. It used to be quieter, and while it's more popular now and can get busy, there are still those rare, quieter days when you can enjoy the serenity and really take it all in. If you're lucky enough to visit on one of those days, the peacefulness is something special. Perfect for a picnic, a long stroll, or even just some time to sit and think. Just a tip bring everything you might need, because you might find yourself staying longer than planned. It’s that kind of place.

Bradgate Park itself is beautiful – really enjoyed walking around and especially loved seeing the deer roaming freely, which made the visit feel quite special. The scenery is lovely and it’s a great place to spend time outdoors. That said, the parking felt quite extortionate, which does take away from the experience a bit, and the men’s toilets could definitely be improved in terms of cleanliness. Overall, worth visiting for the park and wildlife, but a couple of practical things could be better managed.

Bradgate Road leads to the stunning Bradgate Park, a truly beautiful and expansive place that’s perfect for anyone who loves the outdoors. The park is filled with wildlife — from grazing deer to a variety of birds — and its natural scenery makes it ideal for both relaxation and exploration. Whether you’re after a quiet stroll, a scenic jog, or a full day out with family, the area offers something for everyone. There are designated BBQ spots, picnic areas, and clean toilet facilities that make visiting convenient and enjoyable. The walking and running tracks are well-maintained, offering routes for all fitness levels and interests. Overall, Bradgate Road and its surroundings provide a peaceful escape from the city, combining nature, history, and recreation in one truly lovely destination.

The park is beautiful. What I didn't like was the amount of dogs off leads near the deers. This included a pit bull. Owners need to be wary at all times as deer are loose everywhere. Great for photographers. I parked in the south woods carpark as it is £2 all day.

A beautiful park and a great place for hiking, walking, and simply relaxing. It’s always thrilling to see wildlife up close here. Toilet facilities and cafés are available both at the entrance and in the middle of the park, which makes it very convenient. You can easily spend the whole day enjoying a picnic and connecting with nature and wildlife. There’s plenty of parking available — £5 on weekdays and £6 on weekends for the full day. It’s also good to see that bins are placed throughout the park, helping to keep it clean.

What and incredible place! Visit the ruins and the gardens. Take a walk alongside the stream. Or hike up the rocky hills to take in the panoramic views and pay your respects at the war memorial. Deer and Peacocks wonder freely around the grounds. This really is a stunning part of the midlands. When you need to rest your legs you can pop into the cafe to refresh, grab a bite to eat and take bathroom break. There's something for everyone to enjoy regardless of your physical abilities. I came via public transport from Nottingham. The number 9 Kinchbus took me from West Bridgford (Notts) to Loughborough (Auberry Gap stop), and then I got the 154 Centrebus from the Auberry Gap stop to the reservoir at the Bradgate Park. The stop which takes to back to Loughborough is also right next to the reservoir wall. I believe the last bus back to Loughborough is at around 18:30, and then there are multiple late buses back to Nottingham from there

Fantastic parkland with a large expanse of green space, some striking landmarks and remarkable prehistoric rock formations. Bradgate Park dates back around 800 years, when it began life as a deer park, a role it still fulfills today with a large herd of Fallow and Red deer. It's also home to the impressive ruins of Bradgate House, one of England's oldest brick built houses, and amazing ancient oak trees, many of which date back over 500 years. The park is maintained to a very high standard and has a number of entrances, each with their own parking area (charged daily at a reasonable rate) and public toilet facilities. Tearooms are located near the reservoir and the Newtown Linford entrance. The path is crossed by a network of well maintained and clearly signposted paths, ideal for dog walks and popular with families. The Newtown Linford entrance is best for short, easy walks past the stream to the house, while the Hunts Hill entrance in the upper part of the park is best for more challenging walks to Old John Tower and the Leicestershire Yeomanry War Memorial. These high points offer expansive views over the surrounding countryside and the Leicester skyline, with rugged rocks in the foreground. We stopped here on the way to the Peak District thinking the park would be a more interesting way to break the journey than a motorway service station, and were very happy to have done so. A real suprise that exceeded all expectations.

Brilliant food and service. My partner and I really enjoyed our meal here and the wine pairings were worth splashing out on. My partner is pregnant and they were very accommodating, adapting courses for her dietary requirements. Make sure you save space for the cheese board which is incredible!

We came for the 7 course grazing menu with wine pairings for a birthday celebration. The food was absolutely incredible and an amazing way to try new foods. There was plenty of food, we couldn’t believe the food just kept on coming. The service is what stood out to is, John and Troy were especially great. They really make the experience something special. John is a great and everything you would want in a host. They even gave us a little birthday dessert to take home with us. I cannot recommend this place enough, you have to visit.

What a masterpiece of a restaurant - we've been going to the H&P for years and savored every occasion. Daniel and his wife, Sandra, the owners, are always on hand as the dynamic duo who go so far to also personally introduce their delectable fare. Our most recent was during their Wellington night and it certainly did not disappoint! I would recommend making a substantial effort to visit the restaurant, at least once, so see how a small restaurant could be done just so absolutely perfectly. We eagerly look forward to our next return.

My partner and I went here for dinner on Saturday night with our baby daughter and our labradoodle. It was SUPERB. From the moment we walked in - the restaurant smelt divine, the drinks were lightning fast and the menu was full of things we fancied. I plumped for mussels to start (delicious - I was halfway through in the photo!) and a risotto for main - the portions were huge, I shared my meal with our daughter and still couldn't finish my main! The food was fantastic, but the service was absolutely spot on. We were given everything we needed, and all the staff were fussing with our daughter and dog, giving them everything they needed too, it was just brilliant. We eat out quite a lot, but this is the first time in a long time I've left a restaurant feeling so happy, relaxed and full! We can't wait to go back, thank you!

We dined at the Dog & Hedgehog as a spur of the moment Sunday lunch out. We called ahead to check availability (table for 2) and the friendly staff were able to fit us without any issues. The Sunday lunch menu had a very large selection of main meals to choose from including the traditional Sunday roast with a great choice of meats. The Sunday roast was well presented and accompanied by a selection of seasonal vegetables and cauliflower cheese, which was AMAZING! Every element of the dish was delicious, in particular the meat was plentiful, perfectly cooked and well carved.

Service slow but friendly. With over thirty years in the food industry the food was poor for the price charged. A lesson in combining garlic, never let huge chunks appear on a plate, this made half the meal totally inedible If I were paying, a different resolution would've been made. The pie was reasonable and mash tasteful but the huge overpowering garlic ruined the plate

What a gem of a place. Food was excellent and service was great. Camembert to share had a lovely caramelised onion chutney. The lamb shank was a surprise heatwave for my wife - much spicier than she'd normally go with but she really enjoyed it anyway!

Stopped off here whilst doing a walk in the area as was recommended as a great local pub. We hadn't book but staff allowed us to sit outside which was great as weather was lovely and warm. We both had a roast Sunday lunch which was around £19 and a pint of Phoenix £4.60. Phoenix was a lovely refreshing pint which had a fruity flavour and was very nice to drink. After waiting about 30 minutes we chased the food and it arrived soon afterwards. Really great quality. Meat was tasty and roast potatoes were excellent, very tasty and flavourful. Vegetables were also great and very well cooked. Overall really great food and drink and would recommend.

Really nice prawn curry, tender prawns, just too little (only 4 or max of 5). Food was just enough for me. Apple and berry crumble and a very nice vanilla ice cream. Nice atmosphere. Really busy for a Wednesday night which shows locals like the food. Also didn't have my dog with me as I was on a business trip, but how cute is the dog menu and they've got toys for dogs 🐕😍☺️😊

Met up with some friends for breakfast. Friendly welcome from the staff. A great selection of drinks and food for breakfast. Quick service and the drinks and food came out quickly. The drinks were lovely, especially the smoothies, very refreshing and tasty. The food was also high quality and delicious. The pub has recently re-opened and been decorated, they have done a great job. Thanks to everyone at the Royal Oak for a wonderful breakfast 😊

Cheap and cheerful. Visited the Royal Oak yesterday with family. It has a mildly farmhouse aesthetic inside and out, and is dog friendly. The staff were friendly, and came to the table often enough to make sure we were happy and if we wanted anything. The food was reasonable, but it's definitely just "pub grub" - if you want two for one mains, this is your place, but you get what you pay for. I'd definitely go back as I had a nice time and there's enough choice of food and drink for a return visit. There are plenty of pubs with better food selection and quality out there, but the bill is a lot cheaper here!

Amazing experience in Royal Oak, we actually visited twice in one day. We've started with breakfast in the morning, must have been one of the best ones I have ever had. Freshly baked bun, fresh and crispy bacon, fluffy pancakes, absolutely spot on! In the evening we have enjoyed dinner and bottle of wine. Again everything was cooked to perfection. Staff was very friendly and polite and looked after us properly. Place itself is gorgeous and has an amazing atmosphere. Short drive from Coventry, huge car park outside , you can also enjoy beer garden outside if your lucky enough to find a spot, as place is very busy. But with this kind of service and food it's understandable!! Can't wait to visit again

The Griffin Inn is a charming village pub located in the heart of Charnwood Forest. Its stone facade and traditional interior with woodburners, leather banquettes, and bird prints create a cozy atmosphere. On a busy Thursday lunchtime in January, I found this lovely pub filled with friendly faces. Luckily, there was a cosy spot available in the conservatory, and they even offered to turn on the heating for me, but I was perfectly comfortable as it was. This place has got something special going on, especially since it’s been run by the same family for many years! I decided to treat myself to their super popular steak pie with chips and mushy peas. The Globe - Pub & Kitchen is a historic establishment in Leicester, dating back to 1720. It has a rich history of serving fine ales and traditional British dishes. The pub's well-preserved ambiance and quality offerings make it a notable presence in the city's hospitality scene. The menu features hearty roasts served with all the trimmings, including Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and rich gravy.
The Globe Pub is a real gem tucked away in Leicester’s city centre, one of the oldest and most historic pubs in the area, and you can feel that character as soon as you step inside. The traditional decor, complete with old school beams in the floors and a classic layout, gives it that timeless, cozy feel. Though the pub is relatively small and can get quite crowded, it’s cleverly divided into different areas with two bars, making it feel like a mini labyrinth of comfort. It’s a great place for couples, friends or even small families to relax and take in the atmosphere. They serve solid pub food, think proper hearty fare, and there are loads of little touches that keep the experience fun and engaging. From Cocktail of the Week to Bring Your Own Records Vinyl Night (every first Tuesday of the month), there’s always something going on. Saturdays from 11 am, they do a “Global Breakfast,” and Thursdays are “Pie Pie” night, order any pie and get a free pint or small glass of wine. Great value and a really fun idea. The pints are very ale focused, which suits the traditional vibe perfectly. If you’re not sure what to go for, they offer tasting paddles so you can sample three different ales in smaller measures, a great way to explore their selection. They also have Blue Moon on tap for something a little different. Wine options are a bit limited, they only had sweet wine available when we visited, so something drier would’ve been welcome, but it’s still a nice visit overall. The Globe strikes a great balance between tradition and community vibe. It’s a charming, character filled spot that adds a lot to Leicester’s pub scene. Highly recommend stopping by.

Beautiful pub, but food was overpriced for a meh taste and small portions. Also took 35min to serve. Go for the drinks, not the food.

Historical pub in the centre of the old town of Leicester, near the Guildhall and Cathedral. The pub itself also has some history, dating from the 18th century, and the interior is well decorated. I ordered the Steak and Ale Pie for £15.95. The presentation of the dish was a little disappointing - the pie was breaking apart, and simply dumped on top of the vegetables. The pastry of the pie was quite mushy, almost soggy. The mash, greens and steak inside the pie, had very little flavour and were quite bland in flavour, although the texture was satisfying. The gravy was quite nice and full of flavour, however. All the flavour in the dish was provided by the gravy. However, I cannot justify the price given that the dish relies entirely on the gravy for its flavour - you can get better Steak and Ale pies in for cheaper. Service was good. The bartender was friendly and helpful, running through the several options of pies available.

We had eaten here before but I was attracted to a new item on the menu to depart from standard pub grub. It was Lancashire Hot Pot meant to be a hearty filling northern winter dish. When it came it was in a minuscule pot. It was nice but like a child’s portion or a starter . At £19 it was the most expensive main course. So not only bad value but having spent over £30 per head on lunch I left the pub hungry!

The Marquis Wellington is a charming and historic 18th century pub located near Victoria Park in Leicester. It offers a cozy atmosphere with heated outdoor 'beach hut' booths, making it a popular spot for traditional British dishes, particularly fish and chips. The menu boasts ale battered sustainable fish, mushy peas, tartare sauce, and rustic chips, all of which can be enjoyed alongside a wide range of draught beers or delicious wines.
This is our first visit and we truly enjoyed it! The location is perfect and there are paid parking lanes just outside the pub. Lovely interior and well organised areas to sit for a drink or eat food. On this visit we stayed inside but there's a lovely garden with heated huts! We ordered two chicken burgers that were juicy and a tasty chicken Caesar salad. Every Sunday they serve roasts, amongst regular meals, and children below 12 eat free. This is a lovely gesture and I applaud them for giving back to the local community.

This place is 50/50. Cider options are disappointingly limited. Hot drinks are not good; don’t waste your money. Food and beer are generally nice, great ambiance, and that’s why we come here often. However, service is not consistent among staff members. Some can be super warm, efficient and amazing mood makers, and some make you want to cancel the order and leave the place immediately.

I attended as part of a small group. The food was nice and arrived quickly. The atmosphere was ok. There is no allocated seating in the pub, so large outside booths were being taken up by single people, meaning large groups were huddled around smaller tables. There was also quite a lot of smoking outside, which wasnt great, although I appreciate I had the option to go inside. All in I would go again.

Been here a couple of times now & found the meals to be good, but a bit pricey. The place is nicely decorated & thete is a good atmosphere. The staff are helpful and friendly.

I visited here recently and thoroughly enjoyed my experience! The service was attentive and the staff are very friendly - Polly and Briony are exceptionally great and very catering, they make you feel very welcome. Very inclusive atmosphere! I can't rate the food as I didn't try any but the menu looks very good, so will be trying next time definitely. This place has a lovely beer garden and a great selection of drinks, overall a very pleasant experience.

Positives first, of which there are several. Staff always pleasant, friendly and attentive. Atmosphere inside and in the garden always good. Drink prices a little high but acceptable. The big negative being price of some of the food ! Cheesy chips for example £8.95 ! Portions being small ! I should have taken a photo so people could make their own mind up….This alone would put me off meeting there with friends to eat !

Absolutely lovely lady behind the bar, best pina coladas ive honestly ever had. Must have had about 6. She made my fella a whole custom cocktail as well and it was delicious. Cannot wait to be back in leicester to visit again!

Nestled in Hinckley, The Railway is a delightful pub that welcomes both you and your furry companions. With a cozy bar area where dogs can relax while you enjoy a refreshing pint, it’s the perfect spot for pet lovers. The inviting beer garden offers a space for your pup to sip on some water while you unwind. Just a stone's throw from the train station and close to Hinckley Town, it's conveniently located for an easy visit.
Popped in for a quick drink as in the area, which then turned into a few more. Guinness great, friendly staff, pub filled up while we were there so clearly popular. Food looked great although didn’t try it this time. Will call in again when next nearby.

Lovely food and friendly service. Layout of tables were a little close to each other could do with spreading out. It's a beautiful place to eat. Went on a Thursday and their website suggested desserts were half price when mains purchased. However, we did pay full price, so I am unsure if this offer has expired or if for a specific time, although this was not clear on the website. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and will be returning.

What an excellent Sunday roast. My wife, daughter and son in law chose the roast beef and I plumbed for the pork. Accompanied by roast potatoes, roasted parsnips, carrots with peas, stuffing balls and Yorkshire puddings it was amazing and by far the best Sunday lunch we have had in a long time. The young ladies served our meals in a quick and friendly way. They were lovely and a credit to the pub. Great local beer on tap and the quiz as we left was well attended.

Stopped in for a quick pint while waiting for my train home, its right opposite the main train station. Staff friendly, dog friendly, they had a few good beers on top and a really nice outside seating area. Didn't have any food

I have not been here in a while, but a mate & I paid a visit for some food after he had visited a few weeks earlier with his wife. I was not disappointed. We both had the fish finger sandwich & and it was very good value for money. The staff were helpful and friendly, which added to the experience. I will certainly return in the future.

The Waterside Inn, located in Mountsorrel, is a charming pub and restaurant nestled along the picturesque banks of the River Soar. Boasting both indoor and outdoor seating, it offers a delightful dining experience with a menu that showcases a blend of contemporary British cuisine and traditional pub favorites crafted from locally sourced ingredients.
Our party of six ate here in the evening and the service from the friendly staff was excellent. Very wide selection of dishes available from the menu - highly recommended.

It was the first time we'd eaten here, I was pleasantly surprised. Upon arriving we used the extended carpark, lots of space. The food cooking could be smelt from outside, and it smelt good. The restaurant is clean, homely and comfortable. We ordered drinks at the bar and took a table next to the canal. The staff were instantly helpful. The bar was clean and tidy aswell as our table. Food choices were beautiful, hard to decide! I had calamari for starter and gammon, egg and chips for main. Flawless. We will be returning!

Lovely canal side pub with plenty of barge traffic through the locks. Lovely staff and beautifully presented lunch. Sadly it didn't quite hit the mark, even though it was very tasty, the veg was all too hard and the chicken a little tough. Not bad enough to complain, just disappointing for the price. The steak in ale pie was delicious, but of course still had hard veg.

Excellent Service and Fantastic Food! The Waterside in Mountsorrel is a wonderful place with fantastic food and truly outstanding service. The staff went above and beyond to make our visit special — especially for our 4-year-old, who came out of the toilet thrilled that he’d used the hand dryer on his own! They surprised him with a free pudding, complete with chocolate writing that said “Well done for using the dryer.” They were also kind enough to sort a birthday cake and let us enjoy it for pudding. Such thoughtful touches made the whole experience extra special. Can’t recommend this place enough!

We visited the Pub during a major heatwave and we where presently surprised, the inside was cool enough to sit in and relax, the staff was friendly and even during busy hours had enough time to support us through our order. We ordered a "Black & Blue steak & Mixed bean chilli" the steak was cooked to my liking and the add-ons where good and the portion size was fair. The chilli had a good spice to it and again the portion was fair. Price wise it's priced similar to surrounding outlets which in my opinion is fair and honest to what you get. I would definitely comeback for another sitting.
Oskar E — Google review
Absolutely brilliant! We had a small family gathering and the food was just delicious! Service was great too. I love that there is an outdoor bar where you can order snacks as well as drinks, which is convenient for those sitting outdoors. It's such a lovely atmosphere too.... you sit at your table and can watch all the canal boats go by. Really, really lovely.

Additionally, visitors can enjoy the charming garden and Burleighs gin terrace. Notably, the establishment also boasts a fantastic Sunday lunch menu that attracts many patrons.
I'm a rather fussy eater with many food restrictions. Lancaster Arms offered a variety of tasty dishes for me. The mushroom soup was my winner tonight! Delicious food in a beautiful place, lovely staff and atmosphere.

We came here as a family of 12 and hired out the private dining area for a 30th birthday. Karen was our server and she couldn’t do enough for us the entire time. She ensured we were all well fed and if we needed anything more she was there straight away. The food was absolutely delicious, one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve all had for a while for both taste and variety. The beef was amazing, pink and tender. The sides were all delicious. And we loved the presentation of it all. The desserts were also all delicious. We have all said we will be back! Thank you again Karen and everyone at the Lancaster arms!

Fantastic Sunday lunch. Choices of meats are served on a large board with huge Yorkshire puddings, lovely roast potatoes and a bowl of vegetables. Yorkshires, roast potatoes and veg bowl all free to refill. We added cauliflower cheese, stuffing and pigs in blankets as sides. Lovely place to celebrate a birthday meal, all the staff were excellent and we’re already looking forward to visiting again.

Not the cheapest, £50 for a sharing platter.. most I've ever paid for a Sunday dinner, could of done with a bit more meat, unlimited roast, veg. Plenty of staff, staff have got to be the best I've ever come across, they can't do enough for you, friendly, asking if i wanted any top ups. Honey glazed carrots should be in with the £50, shouldn't cost extra in my opinion, £50 is a lot of money. Lovely place though, they let you have a teaky tent if you book, these look perfect if you want some privacy, quite snuggly. Dogs are aloud in these but in the restaurant bit, turret are aloud in the bar area. No good outside in the conservatory area though I don't think, they said we couldn't sit out there and eat. Lovely place to eat, but you will look at £60 £70 with drinks... This place will have to be a treat for me rather than a regular visit, I only usually pay £12 each person lol Staff are 100% though.. Music was a bit loud outside though, we had to move away from the speaker.

Absolutely amazing roast dinner here last Sunday. Really tasty, good value for money & friendly staff. We had the roast which comes with 2 choices of meat, huge Yorkshire pudding & bottomless veg + potatoes. Really good value for money & plenty of sides to chose from, definitely grab the cheese sauce as one of them.

We had our wedding reception at the amazing Lancaster Arms, we were on a relatively short timescale to organise the venue however, after a recommendation to approach The Lancaster Arms we were not disappointed. From the first meeting Sharon the events organiser, the owners and the team were exceptionally accommodating. At no point was anything ever too much, they met with us several times to ensure our wedding day went exactly as we wanted it. From free reign of all the menus available allowing us to build something to suit everyone to catering for allergies nothing was too much. The Lancaster Arms team were in regular contact checking and rechecking to ensure everything ran perfectly. The food was outstanding and all of our guests complimented every aspect of their food in particular the perfectly cooked beef! All of the staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for us, we were bowled over by the service, beautiful surroundings and amazing food, we felt completely relaxed and enjoyed every moment, if anything the evening ended too soon! We would highly recommend The Lancaster Arms for it's professionalism, amazing rustic charm, top notch food and friendly personal service!

Delicious Delicious food, that you can tell has been thoughtfully created. It was a mild Wednesday evening when we visited and there were plenty of people sitting outside, inside was quiet. We are sorry to say our breakfast was not up to our expectations. We have been for a busy lunch and it was lovely! Great hot food and service. But this morning 6 of us went at 9.30 and it wasn’t busy but the small breakfast and toast were all cold! You couldn’t replace an item with another one so no beans and nothing else? Paid extra for black pudding and got the end!! Fried egg not cooked was not offered scrambled or any other different egg choice. No marmalade for toast only jam. She said we should have complained but staff were now busier and we thought it best to tell them when we paid which we did. Sorry to report all this as 2 egg royals were lovely. This is such a great place to go and we will again!

Great food and service. Comfortable pub plenty of space. Chose the lunch special menu which is smaller portions. I had arnanchini for £6 and haddock and chips £10. Great value . Fast efficient friendly service. Dogs welcome in bar and outside. We'll be back with Coco the hound!! Other options two steaks and a bottle of wine for £50, quiz night too.

Went for Sunday lunch and the food looked a lot better than it tasted. Very average meal, roast potatoes were hard in the middle and the veg was all pretty soggy. Not awful but definitely not up to expectations. One of our group had the cheesecake for dessert and it hadn't been mixed properly when made and there were clumps of gelatin throughout it.
Liam S — Google review
Me and my partner came here for a Sunday lunch, set in a nice village but parking wasnt great, very limited space on the road. We walked in to clearly see they were short staffed, the small bar was full of dirty glasses and was met by a lukewarm reception from the manager behind the bar. The pub itself was quaint but very dark and gloomy. It has a lovely multi level garden where we decided to have our drinks and food, cocktail was missing a key ingredient and the food was average which didnt justify the price. Cleanliness was not up to standard, womens toilets had no lock on the door. Our waiter was a young fair haired guy with glasses who was very friendly and had great customer service. With a few tweaks this place could be the kind of high standard country pub it should be, overall not sure we would go again but we are grateful for the positive aspects. Thank you

Good service and I like the venue but food was well below par. I ordered the ‘rare roast beef’ came and it was medium well, also on 2 very thin slices. Roast potatoes were under done and gravy was under seasoned. Son has mini doughnuts that were burnt. Nice pub and have had good meals here so hoping this was a one off. Service was efficient and friendly.

We were a party of 7 upstairs. Acoustics weren't great in a busy dining area and at times it was hard to hear each other. We were there for a total of 3 hours. Starters were prompt and drinks also, however mains took 40mins to follow starters and desserts to 45mins from ordering. Beef roast diner lacked flavour and portions of beef were a bit tight despite the supplement. The pork roast diner looked superb. Gents toilets were dank and smelt like nasty nightclub toilet. Just needs cleaning properly I reckon. Service was friendly but overall a bit slow and we just became frustrated with the speed which took away from our experience.

Came here for the Sausage & Cider Festival. Place was busy with a lovely beer garden which included a roof terrace. Cider selection was really good and we tried several options. I recently visited Rutland and Darby Leicester and, while I haven’t yet had the opportunity to sample the food, I was impressed by several aspects of the venue. The drinks selection is extensive, with a strong variety of beers on tap and a wine menu that appears well-curated. At the time of my visit, the pub was pleasantly quiet, which allowed for a relaxed experience. The beer garden is a particular highlight—spacious and well-maintained, it’s clearly ideal for socialising in finer weather. The interior is stylish and thoughtfully laid out, although the green of the bar and a section of the ceiling might not be to everyone’s taste—though that’s entirely subjective. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout. A special mention to Codie, who encouraged me to share this review. I look forward to returning to try the food in future and would certainly recommend Darby and Ruth as a spot for drinks and conversation in Leicester.

As someone who has dined at the Bakers Arms on many occasions over the last three years, it is incredibly disheartening to see the multitude of fake reviews I can see have recently been left (all within 1hr of each other from one friendship group - none of which who have dined at the bakers arms recently - or at all for that matter.....). The food here is always fresh and delicious, and their 5* EHO rating would say otherwise to any claims of the building being unkept or 'dirty' as one disgruntled ex-employee (and their friends) seems to have claimed. The award winning pub has used fresh, local suppliers in and around the Blaby district since it opened, and the fact that the first reviewers' only claim of 'unfresh' ingredients being used is 'spread' instead of butter makes this all seem like it has been posted with an ulterior motive. It seems to me that the previous reviewer has been let go for not meeting the high standards being set by this amazing village pub, and I sincerely hope anyone reading these reviews can see past their angry rambles of lies. I can guarantee anyone who has *actually* dined or visited this lovely pub (who does not have ulterior motives like this ex-employee and their friends) will be able to see and taste the fresh, clean and delicious food being served 7 days a week. Sincerely, Someone who has actually visited this pub and eaten their food. (P.S the false reviews claiming the bakers arms to be a 'cafe' shows how lazily they have produced these lies. As a tip - next time perhaps research what the place you're slandering actually is before spewing your lies for the internet to see ;))

Came here one morning for breakfast with my young family. We were very disappointed with the service here. Asked for simple boiled egg/dippy egg and toast for my 3 year old daughter and was met with the reply the “chef can’t do that” and that was it. After we eventually ordered something we ate the food and then 15mins later the coffees turned up which was poor (it was not busy half the tables were empty) Felt very underwhelmed with the whole experience and the staff seemed uninterested about customer service.

Queen of Bradgate is a popular brunch spot in Leicester, UK, known for its delightful dishes and friendly service. The venue offers a vegan-friendly British menu, a wide selection of beers, and live music in a casual and funky setting. Additionally, the establishment has reopened with great offers including Foodie Mondays and Tapas Tuesday. It's also dog-friendly, making it an ideal place to enjoy craft beers and cocktails alongside classic pub food while your furry friend is welcome to join you.
Went to this pub whilst waiting to go to our bottomless brunch and it was lovely. We sat outside and the vibe was good and people friendly. The cider is scrummy! 😋

Went out with my BF on a date to the movies and found this place after for food. Never been to before but it peeked our interest. We do love trying new places. Though with me being vegan, I do worry sometimes about trying new things from places I haven’t been to before. But wanted to give it a try. He chose the fish and chips and I gave the ‘Wild mushroom risotto’ a go, never had before. To my surprise, I really enjoyed it. It was really nice and had such flavour to it. I’d definitely have it again. We also got pudding, of course. I got the vegan brownie which was so rich and soft, the sorbet with it was so good also. Then my bf got the white chocolate & passionfruit cheesecake which he really enjoyed also. Another thing is that I don’t drink, so finding a place which has fun options also for me is a plus. As I do like to give mocktails a go if I can. I got the ‘painters punch’ and ‘elderflower mint fizz’ both were really good and it’s nice to be able to enjoy a good and fun drink also rather than having a basic option. Also, staff were really kind and fun to be around. Seemed like they were enjoying each other’s company and having good conversations. Thank you to you all!

2025 update Had a fantastic meal here. A really good menu that isn't your normal pub food. Well presented and very, very tasty. Superb service and friendly staff. A bonus too that dogs are allowed. 2024 Dropped in for a pint after a curry with the lads. Excellent service from the bar staff. Good selection of drinks and plenty of cosy seats.

Great evening there. Good vibe and decent deals on cocktails which we made the most of.

We've been coming here for quite sometime. Unfortunately in recent weeks since their new menu came out, it has significantly gone downhill, which is extremely disappointing as it was one of our favorite go-to spots for lunch/dinner. Many of the menu items seem unfinished and lacking in flavour. Hopefully this place will turn around soon and bring things back to the standard they used to be at otherwise I'll have to find a new pub.

I enjoy having brunch here. It seems like a good pub. I would really like to see what it is like at night here, so I'm going to come back for that experience. I found food very tasty and customer service was friendly. I found asking to pay immediately for each thing you ordered odd. I think it's better to have one bill at the end of your stay especially as we were seated. Update: I went back at night and it was smashing! I was transported back to a proper Irish pub. Food wise, the burger was very plain.

Overall, fine. There's an area upstairs which is quite cosy plus enjoyable with two table tennis if you fancy a game. I haven't tried the food, but it looked appetising.
Hart D — Google review
We booked the upstairs for a private event. Remy and Andy looked after us all night, 65 people that wanted to enjoy a post covid get together and it was great fun. The upstairs has beer pong and ping pong tables for use. There’s a private terrace for those that need regular fresh air, we also had a buffet meal for everyone with both veggie and non-veg options. The food was tasty and fresh and the service was fantastic. Recommended for private parties and events

Nestled in the heart of Leicester's Old Town, Wygston's House Bar & Restaurant is a charming establishment that beautifully marries history with modern dining. This rustic pub and dining room, housed in the city's oldest standing building dating back to 1490, offers a delightful menu featuring comfort food and traditional Sunday roasts. After enjoying a hearty meal, guests can unwind with unique confectionery cocktails like the Prawn Cocktail—a refreshing blend of gin, strawberry and rose syrup topped with apple juice.
Found this place on an overnight stay in Leicester. Hugely impressed. Very old building, apparently the oldest standing in the city, converted into a pub and restaurant. Absolutely gorgeous inside. Quirky decor, very cosy on a cold night. Food fabulous. Staff so friendly. Next time I visit Leicester I will be coming back here.

We got the Tues. burger specials. Fresh and tasty and nice presentation. Would've given 5 stars if the fried fish fingers sandwich was less greasy. Nice beverage selection. Great service. Cozy, eclectic space. Lots of outdoor seating if it's not raining.

Great spot to go to for a drink! Really nice atmosphere, especially on a sunny day with the outdoor seating. The food was quite nice - I had the half ribs and the portion was ginormous! Very tender and perfectly seasoned. Came with some very nice onion rings too.

I went for Thursday Steak Night and ordered the 6Oz Steak Fillet for £16, along with Peppercorn Sauce for an extra £1.50. The steak itself was a little disappointing. It was a little dry and lacking in flavour. The garlic butter the steak had been cooked in brought good flavour to the steak, as did the peppercorn sauce, but none really from the steak itself. However, the sides that came along with the steak were both bountiful and well tasting. The chips and onion rings were crispy, and the mushroom and tomatoes were juicy and tasted great! The staff were very friendly and polite. The establishment is located inside the Wygston House, the oldest house in Leicester, dating back to the 15th. The restaurant is housed within sections of the original timber frame of the house, but within a Georgian renovated section. As such, there is a certain historical atmosphere when seated inside. It is also quite quaintly decorated, which adds a character of it's own.

We love coming here for a nice meal. The portions are great, staff are so friendly and welcoming. We've never had a bad meal here, it's always reliably lovely!

The food was very nice. I had the home made Doner kebabs and they were very tasty with a good sized naan. The pie and chips was fantastic (which begs the question why serve some meals with the cheap fries when the chips are so good). Food service was friendly and fast but we did have 2 meals missed off the order (which we'd pre-booked) and there were sometimes long queues for the bar for drinks. Nice atmosphere to the place, even with the football on and two birthday parties it still felt very family friendly. We'll definitely be returning 🙂

Stumbled upon this pub on one of our Sunday runs. Got really excited to get something to eat when we got there but there were already too many people who ordered (what I assume to be) really good pub food!!! Really gutted that we weren't able to try them out but the nice man behind the counter (forgot his name sorry) explained how the kitchen was overwhelmed and told us they won't be back taking orders until about an hour so we got the crispiest bottle of Coke instead which was a 10/10. Hence, food rating is pending but everything else was fine. Will be back to try their food soon though!
Akhina T — Google review
Food was unpleasant to say the least. The mushroom risotto looked like it went through the meat grinder before it got to the plates. Tasted like pure griddle grease (no offence). Salad was fine, at least they got one thing right. Chips fine. Other than that, disgusting.
Erin ( — Google review
If you are going to serve a cocktail called a "St Germain elderflower spritz" at least use St German liquer and not a fake version, it felt like customers were an inconvenience to the bar staff, a smile & proper greeting goes a long way. We were planning to try the food but the bbq's are only lit a couple times a week, the other menu wasn't something we would consider ordering from.

My husband and I went for a hike and came across this pub at the end. The atmosphere was cozy and warm and the platter we ordered was perfect. I am definitely coming back again to try the steak. 2 things I really appreciated were that They allow dogs inside which I found perfect and had partitions between the tables
Areege A — Google review
Great meal enjoyed by all our party, including the dog, who was made very welcome and was given his own bag of treats! There is also a menu of drinks and ice creams for the dogs. Not all pubs that are dog-friendly are actually dog-welcoming but this one is. The interior was light and bright and spacious, it is so nice not to be crammed in right next to another group of people but have room to relax and enjoy. Miss Piggy burger was a major highlight! Nice selection of wines too and plenty to choose from on the main menu plus specials - would highly recommend for excellent quality and generous portions.

Rachel C — Google review
I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Moorings in Barrow for an impromptu evening meal and drinks. Given the timing, I was initially concerned that the atmosphere might be a bit too rowdy due to the ongoing England game. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience.Upon arrival, I was struck by the beautiful surroundings and the spacious, open-plan design of the restaurant and pub. The Moorings boasts a lovely selection of drinks on tap and an enticing array of cocktails that immediately caught my eye. Although I had a table booked, it was somewhat challenging to get the attention of the staff, despite the establishment not being particularly busy. Nevertheless, once we settled in, the experience improved markedly. We decided to sample a variety of dishes: the Salami Pizza, the Squid, Truffle Fries, and Arancini Balls. Each dish arrived piping hot and fresh. The pizza was delightful, and the truffle fries were a particular highlight, offering a rich and savory taste. The arancini balls were equally satisfying. The only downside was the squid, which was slightly rubbery and overcooked. One of the most charming aspects of The Moorings is the presence of very quiet, idyllic pods that add significantly to the ambiance, offering a serene escape within the lively establishment.Overall, I would rate my experience at The Moorings an 8 out of 10. It is a lovely spot for a relaxed evening meal and drinks, with a few minor improvements needed to reach perfection.

Went for a bottomless brunch and it wasn’t the experience we expected. Drinks normally flow at these and this was slow… understaffed. It wasn’t even busy and they just couldn’t keep up. The majority of tables were empty and full of glasses and plates. Our plates never got collected after the food and there wasn’t much of an apology. They could’ve offered something but didn’t. We were not the only ones to complain. Food was ok, air-con on full, good if you like it fresh. Big place, hopefully they normally have more staff on… Staff were friendly and did feel a bit for them. Probably won’t return, shame
Alex J — Google review
Staff were all super friendly, and I thought the food menu was reasonably priced too. We had a table for 4. Came in on a busy Saturday afternoon and most tables reserved. They seated us in a reserved table with the instruction to be finished before the table came in, which we were happy to do. We all enjoyed our food, and my pizza was very tasty. Only a few minor complaints are that a friends Old Mout was flat, my garlic bread was a little cold and my parters Christmas burger was served with the smallest pig in blanket I’ve ever seen. But all tasted good, I’d definitely return back anyway.
Aaron — Google review
Table for 7 celebrating a birthday with bottomless brunch. Waited almost half an hour for the first drink. They were short staffed so our server did his best. Despite this slow pace of drinks, the manager did not allow any any additional time and our 2.5 hour slot was cut off after 2 and a quarter hours. I had the breakfast, was really disappointeded with the quality and it was overcooked. Sausages tasted cheap and were so overcooked, bacon was hard and therefore tasteless, there was half a mushroom that also tasted deep fried. I was hungry so I ate it but noone came to check how it was. The cocktails were ok, the espresso martini wasn't garnished with coffee beans though. Overall a disappointing experience that I wouldn't be in a rush to repeat,

What to say about this place. Good points first: It's a large pub spread over 2 floors with a bar, pool table, good selection of retro games machines and a dance floor upstairs with a DJ, it has a large fairly decent outside smoking area with cover, a few consoles set-up downstairs to use, didn't try any but they have a large selection of drinks on draught, they have cobs at night for sale and it's open until 4am every night. Bad Points: There are many, staff don't seem to clean up after themselves with rubbish over the back bars and all over the floors, staff have no personality and seem to serve friends first, door staff are very rude and last week they kicked a guy out who then decided to try to hammer the front door and try to break through a window and all they did (3 door staff), was barricade the front door and lastly, this claims to be a rock bar but they played drum & bass Mmm... enough said!I and lastly can't believe how many customers here do coke, its unreal, we saw that many people actually doing coke or selling it it seems natural here.

I only go here because it's the latest place open at the end of a night out (bar Leicester's terrible selection of clubs) or if there's a gig on that I am interested in. I've never particularly liked Firebug with its dark and dingy atmosphere, gross toilets and sticky floors, but have felt especially uncomfortable going there since someone was r*ped in the disabled toilet a couple of years or so ago. A lot of nice and cool people go here but a lot of unsavoury characters too. Generally just has an unnerving vibe. If there was anywhere else remotely tolerable that my friends enjoyed that was open as late and wasn't expensive I wouldn't go to firebug. I do enjoy the top floor though when it open and they have a good DJ on. It sometimes has some good gigs on too and I've heard the food is pretty good.

We hosted a suprise party for my Dad here on Saturday in the upstairs venue and it was everything we could have hoped for and more! The venue itself was beautifully lit which made for a lovely atmosphere, perfect size and every single one of our guests were raving about how brilliant it was. The sound system was amazing and connected easily and seamlessly and sounded brilliant throughout the night. The staff were incredibly friendly and so accommodating for anything we needed - from the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. The booking process was simple and easy - thankyou Kat for sorting everything for us! The private bar was also a great asset to the use of the venue and again the staff were great. Shout out to the bouncer on the door also who kept our party private! All in all cannot praise the venue and staff enough and we will definitely be back for parties in the future! ❤️

Firebug constantly excels as a great place to go. I'm on first name basis with some of the workers there. I go Thursdays and Saturdays usually. The front door is not wheelchair friendly. But I'm sure there wouldn't be an issue using the backdoor (if it's late, make sure to contact staff and a bouncer. No sneaking in!) I love the menu and usually treat myself to an FB Messy. The vegan/dairy free options for some cocktails and the milkshakes are great. I can have more treats without risking discomfort. I will continue to give this 5 stars every visit. I've never had a bad time and I've gone fairly regularly for just under a year. They have interesting events, live music, support good communities. The staff are always friendly, and you can see the camaraderie between too. They also have games consoles with TV's to play games. Which along with my tag line, is something I very enjoy.

The culture here is sort of mean. 5 of us come in a Sunday evening and its empty, zero customer. 4 want to order beers and 1 a coffee as she's just finished work. They ran out of coffee. I ask can she grab a mcdonalds takeout and drink it with us before she orders a drink? No, you can't she has to sit outside by herself. So weird when you have zero customers and we were friendly to you. Went to Tonne instead where they were normal and understood basic human interaction

Quiet place at 15:00 on a Friday but that meant we were served quickly. Service was very good and drinks were served at the table. You can see in the photos that the gents are not a very nice place to have to use. Looked like they had not really given it much thought. The sinks look particularly grotty. Food was delicious and so was the wheat beer I had. So definitely a place I will return but will hope they read this and hope they have redecorated the loos by the time I do!

The pub was very quiet for a Saturday afternoon but it was nice and quiet, although we did feel sorry for the lady behind the bar who was not only serving behind the bar but also taking food orders and waiting on tables - she did a fab job despite being swept off her feet. We were going to indulge in a pudding however chose not to as there wasn’t a vegetarian ice-cream dessert option (only a rocky road sundae, not veggie), so would love to see a vegetarian ice cream option in the future. Would love to bring our daughter another time to try the kids menu. Looking forward to another visit and would recommend to others for a meal out!

Love the pub and even though we have moved away from the village we still class it as our local! Charlie and James and all the staff are fantastic and you can have a really good laugh with all of them. The brewery really need to help this pub and ensure Charlie and James stay. Little things that the brewery could do would massively help (although I love it as it is) 🥰

Always an excellent night at the new Inn. Fantastic owners who always make us feel welcome. Treats everyone fairly and firmly. I witnessed the abuse she received from a young guy last night and in all honestly, I wouldn’t have been as calm as her. If that was my son, I would have been so embarrassed. To talk to a female they way they did and to threaten violence. Disgusting behaviour, they wouldn’t have spoken to a male like that. Bully behaviour. On the good side, it’s an all round great pub! And the quizzes are always a good crack too

Brilliant pub, 100 percent recommend stopping for a drink.James and Charlie and their staff are all lovely and so friendly. There is reason why they have been in the pub for the amount of years they have and that’s they know how to run a great pub for all walks of customers who come in
Dylan C — Google review
Owner kicked me and my friends out because she couldn’t check an ID properly and thought glasses couldn’t be worn in an ID photo. She also threatened physical violence when informed she was wrong. Overall horrible owner who treats her customers extremely poorly and doesn’t know how to run a bar. And in response to your reply that is just a lie. I left when you asked me too and didn’t shout at all I just defended my friend when you were kicking him out for no reason. You were the one who insulted and shouted at me. I have been going to the new inn for years and this was a disgusting way to treat a regular customer.
Thomas P — Google review
I don’t usually leave reviews but seeing the recent reviews from the upcoming youths from the village regarding last night is appalling. I was shocked and disgusted at the abuse she received from the group of youths for refusing service. To witness such threatening behaviour to a lone woman from a bunch of young guys was honestly frightening. I have been coming here and playing darts for years and I have never seen anything so horrendous. In all of the years they have ran the New Inn, they have been nothing but great. To have to raise her voice in the manner she did was completely warranted. Hats off to her for dealing with it in the way she did

Nestled on Main Street in Breedon on the Hill, just a stone's throw from Coalville, The Three Horseshoes is a charming 18th-century dining pub that originally served as a farrier's. Its interiors boast an eclectic style with polished bar areas, rustic flagstone floors, and vibrant walls adorned with modern country prints and antique engravings. The inviting log fire adds warmth to the atmosphere, making it perfect for cozy gatherings.
Recently taken over. Called in on a Saturday lunchtime. Wasn't particularly busy. Staff were very friendly and service was great. We only had a drink. The place was spotlessly clean. Will be a real asset to the area. Great outdoor area too

Was never the best pub but has gone even more downhill recently. Attracts a really rough crowd, no longer serves food, staff turn a blind eye to customers vaping inside. A shame as it’s in a lovely location and could be so much nicer!

Lovely welcome from the bar manager and land lady as we walk in. The lounge bar and toilets were very clean. As the current land lady had on just took over the running of the pub, there was no ales on offers. This is something that she is looking to get sorted in the not too distant future. Defo put this place on your list of pubs to visit when in the area. Good luck, Three Horseshoe's, see you again sometime!!

Welcomed by very kind polite and helpful staff. We Ordered our dinner and within 10-15 mins it was on the table. And well the portions was massive. The food was hot throughout and tasted delicious. 100% recommend and ill be going back.

First time visiting today and it will be our last… first impressions were that the place could do with a good clean. We were greeted by two big hand prints on the mirror as you walk in. We walked past the coffee machine which looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. We ordered two pints which cost £11.20! We sat down and noticed immediately the chairs were covered in crumbs and dog hair. The floor needed a good vacuum and mop. We went at lunch time, so there was no way it had been cleaned the night before / that morning. We were going to stop for lunch but the cleanliness put us off. We went to the toilet on the way out and they were just as bad. The toilet was dirty and stained, with the top coming away. The sink wasn’t even attached. Soap dispensers need replacing and make sure to go to the toilet in twos, you’ll need the other person to push the tap for you on the one sink the water actually works. Cleanliness is basics…

Nestled in a charming village, The Kings Arms is a delightful stone-built inn dating back to the early 17th century. This inviting establishment features its own smokehouse, ensuring that guests can indulge in delicious meals. The main bar exudes warmth with its two large log fires and cozy nooks adorned with low beams and rustic flooring.
Had a Birthday/Christmas meal here. The food was excellent and the service brilliant. Nice Christmas stout at the bar. It was freezing outside, so to see a log fire lit in all the bar rooms was exceptional. I didn't want to leave. All the party members have said they will call in again. A lovely pub in a rural village. Not to far from Melton Monday and the Vale of Belvoir. Well worth calling in.

I've eaten here before as I'm local to the area. However, on our last visit on a Saturday evening, we were let down by the service. The food was amazing, but waiting over an hour was a bit too much. There only seemed to be one member of staff on and it showed. I usually really enjoy visiting here, but I might think twice if waiting for food is going to be that long.

Great location in a lovely village; pub had a real British countryside feel to it. Lovely girl that served me and Mum today was very personable and welcoming. Food was great. I had pulled pork burger and Mum had red leicester and chutney sandwich. Unfortunately they’d ran out of salad for the sandwich and were still charged the full expensive price for it; the coffee machine had broke so can’t comment on that either Atmosphere was ok and seats were comfortable. Will definitely be back.

Nestled conveniently along the A47, The Bulls Head, affectionately known as the Halfway House by locals, is a delightful stop for travelers. Whether you're looking to refuel with a hearty lunch after checking in or seeking a cozy dinner following a day of city exploration, this family-friendly pub has you covered. Renowned for its classic pub fare and real ales, it’s particularly popular among teenagers who can’t resist the Classic Hamburger.
Great food, great service, staff were very attentive and prompt. Tables were clean and well presented and the venue is large and feels uncrowded. Food was beautiful

Very, very good food here. Obviously all freshly made (waitress offered skinless cod if my dad wanted) and very tasty. Between three of us we shared the vegetarian tart with salad. Amazing. Then the main courses arrived. They looked huge. I can thoroughly recommend the steak, egg and chips with a green side salad. The steak was tasty and the sliced gherkins on the salad helped to cut through the rich meat. Dad's fish and chips hit the spot. In particular he commented that the mushy peas were tasty and stayed hot. Mum had fish pie which was very well presented and she enjoyed a lot. I haven't drunk a pint of Tiger for about 40-years, so that was a nice blast-from-the-past. Very smooth and just as I remember. Friendly staff and plenty of parking.

Very family friendly pub With a great atmosphere, wide selection of different beer ales spirits and pop. I haven’t tried the food although they’re always quite busy or fully booked for food. However it is a little on the expensive side. Decent outdoor play area for children they also have quite a big garden with plenty of seating. There is also plenty of parking (gravel car park)and seating on the front. they sell good Guinness. And the drinks prices are reasonable. thanks.

Amazing (and not in a sarcastic way)... Wife and I had been looking forward to trying this place for quite some time, and as today is my birthday we thought it was about time that we did. The Bulls Head did not disappoint. Upon entering this dog-friendly establishment, we were warmly welcomed by a friendly member of staff, and we ordered our drinks at the bar. The Spring Equinox by Everards was a delightfully crisp yet hoppy beer. One would assume it was created using the citra and mosaic hops. We took a couple of menus and ordered our food. The wife had the prawn cocktail, and with it costing just 9 British squids, it was a surprise at the quantity and quality. Fresh, perfectly cooked and served with a basket cone of chips on the side. I was slightly envious. Well, that was until I bit into... Umami Burger... perfectly cooked and held together very well. I've been to some places where you get a burger to grease ratio of about 60/40. This burger had very little in the way of grease, had a lovely smokiness flowing through and the truffle mayonnaise added to the ever growing orgasm in my mouth. The chips that came with it were out of this world, crisp on the outside and fluffy and light on the inside. These are the best chips I've ever had in a pub/resturant. The staff were very helpful and always kept a smile on their faces. This made me feel most at home. We can't wait to come back again!! Well done on all aspects, you guys are what good customer service and great product is about!!
Raven F — Google review
Been going here and recommending it for 15 years and the food is excellent under this newest management however nothing excuses bar staff allowing 'regulars' to push in the que at the bar, and then proceed to make us wait 45 minutes in total to order food with no explanation as to why or any apology. Initially asked to wait 20 mins for ordering food (Presumably as kitchen busy was half full on a Monday afternoon) so after 20 mins went to the bar to order just a chip butty and a side of chips, to be told the lady who'd deliberately allowed people to push in front at the bar would come take our order. 15 minutes passed before she did, she was stood next to the bloke at the bar when he said she'd come over 15 mins prior, they all knew we were waiting. When she finally got there we politely refused the service as they clearly didn't want our money. It's a shame as I regularly go for family meals there and the chef does some great food. No excuse for such poor service, I'd like to add the couple they allowed to push in had sank 4 pints within the 45 minutes and had driven there.. Photo attached from a previous visit of the food I had hoped to order!! A reply to the email sent when this happened would be appreciated, would like to understand why this happened and perhaps keep this place on the roster of family dining spots. Have sent alot of custom your way over the past couple years.

We’ve been here and sat in both the bistro and the restaurant and both were delicious. The haddock kedgeree was delicious! Able to cater to gluten-free/celiac too which was great. Restaurant felt very luxurious, though we did have a view of smokers but that’s not the end of the world.

Group of us girls had the bottomless brunch and our server Eva was wonderful. She explained how the service all worked and made sure we kept well topped up throughout our visit. She was great! The company itself would help their staff by updating the menus as some of the meals were not as described on the menu which caused disappointment and questions for Eva and her colleagues. Please update the menus so that the meals come as described on the actual menus. Thanks Eva 🥰

Big table of us spent a couple of hours on a Saturday lunchtime enjoying the Walkabout Bottomless Brunch and it's was brilliant value. It was quite quiet in there but that meant the service was attentive and fast! We always had a drink and the food was really good. Big shout out to our waitress, Eva - she was super fun, very welcoming and had a big smile on her face despite dealing with 13 increasingly inebriated women! Thoroughly recommended for a fun brunch where you can enjoy yourself!

We reserved a table for champions league final, got confirmation email and submission emails, went there with friends, didn't have us booked and asked us to leave, politely asked if possible to talk to someone to see if our table is somewhere that we cannot find it, the security came and asked us to leave. I understand it was a busy day, I understand there might be an error in the system, all we needed was a proper answer from someone. Unbelievable. Will never go there again.

I had an incredible time at Walkabout in Leicester! The lively atmosphere and friendly staff immediately set the tone for a memorable night out. The variety of drinks and cocktails they offer is impressive, catering to a wide range of preferences. The highlight of the evening was the entertainment. The live music and DJ created an energetic vibe that kept everyone dancing and having a great time. The venue's layout and design allowed for a comfortable and enjoyable experience, whether you're catching up with friends or meeting new people. I must also commend the staff for their attentiveness and prompt service. They made sure everyone had a fantastic time, and their dedication truly stood out. Walkabout Leicester is undeniably a go-to spot for a fun night out in the city. I'll be looking forward to my next visit and the guaranteed good times that come with it! My suggestion: 1. Reduce food and drink price 2. Include fish/ veg options 3. Pool table improvements 4. Offer bluelight card discount

We love this pub, more than our front room. A real gem in the city, and full of incredible people. Great landlord, staff and the Edna cat. 😻 Always a warm welcome, and a great selection of beers. Live music on a Monday, Thursday and some Friday nights. Worth supporting and keeping alive, given that most pubs like the Horse have long since gone. Long live The Black Horse. 👌

Not family friendly. Came here with our 3 year old in the afternoon to watch some live music only for the drunken landlord to point at him and aggressively shout "what is that?". Son was absolutely terrified. If you don't want kids in your pub then change your license and post a sign outside saying "no under 18s". Don't threaten a vulnerable minor and his mother. Under 14s allowed until 7pm.

Nice place, but the landlord is rude and always has a snarky comment to say. I’ve stopped coming here since my last interaction with the landlord after he berated me for the way I ordered a pint of Guinness claiming “we don’t speak American round here” when I politely requested if I could “get a pint of Guinness please?” I’d rather drink at Nine Bar or The Castle as they make you feel welcome.

Historical landmark
Foxton Locks is a must-visit destination near Leicester, featuring the largest staircase on the British canal system. The locks are part of the Grand Union Canal's Leicester line and offer a fascinating process to watch as boats make their way through. Visitors can explore the local museum to learn about the area's history and then relax at cozy pubs or charming tea rooms. Watching narrowboats navigate through the ten canal locks is a free and captivating experience, with around 4,000 boats passing through annually.
A great place to visit and always a pleasure to return. Peak season can get extremely busy and so I prefer out of season or early mornings and late evenings to enjoy the walks and fresh air. There are plenty of opportunities to watch the locks in operation with stunning views at the top. Dont forget a cheeky coffee and something to eat.
Wood Y — Google review
It is an excellent place to visit if you love to walk. The tour guides were helpful with the historical perspective as well as the museum. Well worth another visit. Adequate parking and lots of shops available. I feel that enforcing folks to have dogs on leads will be safer. Overall, it was a good experience.
Abisoye L — Google review
All the volunteers there were helpful and informative. Lovely walk . Plenty of parking. Pub on site. We has sausage egg sandwich there in a coffee booth. No seating in there but benches and tables along the canal.
S E — Google review
Foxton Locks is a real gem for a family day out, and it offered something for all three generations of our party. My two young daughters were fascinated by the impressive flight of ten locks, watching narrowboats inch their way up and down with wide-eyed excitement. The friendly boaters were happy to chat and even let the girls help with a gate or two—something they’re still talking about! For my 81-year-old mother, the level towpaths and ample benches made it easy to enjoy the scenery without feeling worn out. We took our time walking along the canal, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere and chatting to fellow visitors. She particularly enjoyed reading the historical signs and reminiscing about times gone by. We stopped for lunch at Foxton Locks Inn and sat outside by the water—perfect on a sunny day. The fish and chips were excellent: crisp batter, generous portions, and just what we needed after a long stroll. Service was friendly and relaxed, which suited the pace of the day. Foxton Locks strikes a rare balance: peaceful but not dull, engaging for kids without being chaotic, and accessible without being overdeveloped. A truly lovely place to slow down and reconnect as a family.
Jonathan S — Google review
Find with postcode LE16 7RA. As you come up to the entrance on your right, you'll also see another entrance to the left within the trees. This top left entrance is another car park that brings you to the top of the locks. If you turn right, you'll go down a long drive to a car park that brings you to the bottom of the locks. This car park is smaller. Pay when you leave at the pay station. The cost is up to 4 hours, £3.50 Up to 8 hours £5. You can pay with cash or a card. There are toilets nearby. There are plenty of long walks available along the paths next to the canal. It goes for miles. There are several cafes available. Little ice cream hut. A small shop. A pub. A walkway by the side of the locks, which has wheelchair access. Bins for dog toilet. Dogs are very welcome on leads. Suitable for supervised children as the locks have severe drops at the side. The walk-up to the top lock is not very steep. It is a great place to visit with families, however its gets EXTREMELY busy when it's sunny.
R J — Google review
Great piece of history, very scenic. We spent just over 4 hours and only did a short walk, nowhere near the longer walk of about 5 miles. Parking is very reasonable by today's standards
Max — Google review
This is my 2nd visit to Foxton Locks. It's a beautiful place filled with history, walks, scenery and tranquillity. We had a lovely lunch at Foxton Locks Inn, sitting outside overlooking the water and boats. There are public toilets by the car park. The car park charges are reasonable and paid on leaving. The Locks go uphill, which is amazing and there are plenty of walking routes in all directions. Wonderful!

A beautiful place to visit. The lock keepers and volunteers were so enthusiastic and very informative. They even got our 2 grandkids involved in opening a lock gate to allow a boat to rise to the next level.

Bar
The Blue Boar is a charming micropub housed in a beautifully restored historic building, offering a relaxed and country-chic space to enjoy a variety of beers, ciders, and wines. The pub has an interesting history, with ties to King Richard III's fateful journey in 1485. It has received accolades from The Good Pub Guide and CAMRA for its selection of craft beers.
Fabulous real ale and chat pub without any annoying interrupting background music. Barrels rolled in and out while there and all visible behind the bar. Huge proper chunky cheese n thick onion ' Leicester Cobs' light brown crust on top, none of your softy small southern 'rolls', hah. Haven't seen any as good as these for decades! Big scrubbed table tops, ideal for 'dominoes' and beer glasses etc with elbow room to spare. Sat at 1 of 2 tall old barrel table tops with tall sit stools, could do with 2 or 3 more of those stools as 1 of our 7 had to stand!

Great little pub with the famous Blue Board cheese and onions Cobs, yes Cobs 😏...so good we had to have two, all washed down with great pints from a good range of Beers, Ales and ciders

Second visit, incredibly sociable drinking pub, busy Monday afternoon, easy to chat Corrie with strangers. Wonderful cheese and onion cobs to match the beer.
Martin T — Google review
Best beer and cobs in Leicester. Friendly staff and locals. Always a fantastic range of new ales on the bar to try. A good "old fashioned" but modern bar where you can sit, watch the world go by, chat to friends and strangers alike.
Nigel G — Google review
The Blue Boar is a pub full of hearty chat with a regular out burst of laughter. The smell of good wholesome beer. No gimmicks here a good selection of beers. An excellent crowd of people in this small pub but remember it's all about the beer. Ps this pub wins awards 👍🏿
Bernard P — Google review
Traditional pub serving great beer and huge cobs. Beer menu is ever changing, offing a wide range of ales and craft which should cater for most tastes. Food is in the form of huge cheese or ham cobs. Great value too.
Mark A — Google review
A must for any cask ale fan. Friendly barman, excellent quality cask ales. Something to suit everyone, or to have one of each. Some are served directly from the cask too. Bar snacks such as Black Country pork scratchings are served, however the Cobs here are something else - massive crusty white cob with a thick wedge of quality cheddar and another thick onion slice on top. Really good and for £2.50 that's excellent! The beer keg urinals are a novel feature and their toilet is twinned with one in Malowi for charity, see photo. Will certainly return.

No doubt must visiting place if u like quality beer. Super welcoming & attentive staff. So friendly n lovely atmosphere. Great choice of beers, ales, cider etc. Very friendly customers happy to socialise if travelling solo. The fresh cheese & onion cobs are full of flavour. Definitely a pub to go to if ur in Leicester.

The Two-Tailed Lion is a beloved pub in Leicester, UK, known for its impressive selection of craft beers and cozy atmosphere. Located in a historic building with a nod to the city's heritage, this traditional English free house offers 15 beers on tap, including 5 gluten-free options. The interior features wood accents and a charming clear roof area with potted plants that creates an outdoor ambiance.
Visited for the first time on Sunday and what a quirky venue. An amazing selection of drinks to cater for all. Served by Baiba who assisted me to a fantastic Gin Experience. Highly recommend & will be back.

Small, cosy place with cool vibes. Great beer (actual craft stuff!) and friendly staff. Anywhere that sells cloud water beer is an automatic plus for me
Alex M — Google review
Visited this place by accident while exploring this city. Perfect place to enjoy a variety of great keg & cask beers. Been there for a quick one but I spent more time for tasting cool craft beers from the famous breweries. Very reasonable prices. Such lovely atmosphere. Staff was such friendly n service was with smile. Had quality time there. Thanks to them.

Great little find for craft beer lovers , changing draught menu with some rare beers. Great 60s /70s music at the time we visited, nice modern seating area and there is a greenhouse. Only stayed for one drink but really enjoyed it
Tiphaine M — Google review
Lovely little tucked away gem set in an amazing building. A good range of keg beers is complicated by a smaller ra ge of cask ales with something to please everyone. Beers are all well kept and priced reasonably. Bar snacks are available and the samosas compliment a pint fantastically. My wife said the wine was very good and again reasonably priced. The atmosphere is very chilled with music played at jist the right volume to be able to enjoy it and still hold conversation. Staff were lovely, polite and professional. There is a fridge with a selection of bottles and cans to take away and enjoy.
Dave T — Google review
This is a fantastic little pub wines spirits and lots of beer, they have lots of choice and there is something for everyone to drink. The place is really nicely decorated and has upstairs seating as well. We popped in before going to dinner and had some really good wine and beer. It has a really good atmosphere it's really worth a visit staff are super friendly and know there stuff about the drinks they are serving. This pub is worth visiting and is a must if your beer drinker or just like a nice glass of something.

Lovely pub spread over several floors selling a decent range of real ales with very knowledgeable staff.

A decent pub with several cask ales and a selection of keg craft beers on tap, as well as a fridge with bottled and canned craft beer. Tables and seats are available on the ground and first floors, but the toilets are on the first floor so may be an issue for those with mobility impairments.

The Railway Inn Glenfield is a charming village pub just outside the city, offering a traditional atmosphere with cozy seating and simple wooden interiors. It's a great spot to catch live sports on multiple screens and enjoy their spacious beer garden during the summer. The pub serves an excellent selection of beer, wine, and spirits, along with delicious Sunday roasts. The food is highly praised for its quality and variety, including sumptuous burgers and well-cooked steaks.
Lisa J & Laura welcomed us to The Railway. We had a lovely 3 course Christmas dinner here for a bargain price of 21.99. The food was lovely and piping hot. The service was excellent, would definitely recommend this place for food and drinks 👍👏
Liz K — Google review
This is usually my local pub and I’ve always enjoyed my experiences here other than today. We were told to be quiet as people are eating. We had only just stepped on the building and we were looking forward to sit down with a nice drink after work and to enjoy the nice weather. We wasn’t overly loud but to be welcomed by Laura with that put a bit of a dampener on our mood. I appreciate people are eating however it is still a pub and people should still be able to talk and enjoy their time. If people want a nice peaceful dinner they should go to an actual restaurant rather than a local pub where people are there to relax and enjoy themselves and have a laugh with their company. I’m quite disappointed with the approach we got today as we’ve always been quite jolly and it’s always usually been a nice environment.
Neve F — Google review
Visited the Railway Inn Glenfield a few weeks ago to break up the journey home while seeing family in Southern England. Upon arrival, the service was excellent showing as a sign of things to come with the great value prices of food and drink. True to form, it's only roast style dinners that's served on Sundays, however diners have option of unlimited Yorkshire Puddings and adding their own extras to the dinner which is a great touch to suit individual dietary requirements. All this within on reflection an unassuming looking pub on the outside, but one that caters for all needs inside. Above all, a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Best pub in Glenfield. Ok prices, slightly above average, but very well kept ale (4 on) including abbot which is very far from home. Decent food and good music. Popular well lived in boozer.

Catered for our after wedding celebrations and they were fantastic from start to finish. Didn't have to worry about a thing, brilliant selection of hot food. Brilliant friendly service ! So helpful and cut up the cake, let us come the night before to set up the room. Just absolutely brilliant, couldn't be more pleased. Thankyou ! We will be back in for lunch soon !!!
Carla A — Google review
Went here for a work Christmas meal because we couldn't get in at our first choice of venue. The pub didn't feel particularly clean or warm (December). Food was not good - I opted for the main menu rather than festive menu and ordered a chicken & bacon salad. All I got was chicken, bacon and a bowl full of Iceberg lettuce. Surely that's not a salad? No tomatoes or onions as advertised .... couldn't they run to a bit of cucumber too? The irony was, my colleague who ordered macaroni cheese, got a lovely salad on the side with all the components you would expect to see in a salad. Really strange. The prices are low and this seemed a popular place for older people, but definitely not keen to visit again unfortunately and certainly wouldn't take kids - a few throw-back lunchtime drinkers hanging around the bar was off-putting.

Nestled in the heart of Coalville, the Bricklayers Arms is a charming village pub that truly embodies a homey atmosphere. Run by the welcoming duo Ben and Jan, this establishment ensures that every guest—two-legged or four—feels right at home. The pub features a delightful beer garden that's perfect for sunny afternoons, offering ample outdoor seating amidst well-kept grounds.
We attended this lovely village pub yesterday afternoon and what a wonderful experience we had. The landlady and landlord are very friendly welcoming and accommodating. The pub itself is lovely and has a true village feel about it. The beer garden is lovely spacious and well maintained especially given this was the first true sunny day of the year. Outdoor seating was plentiful and the grounds were lovely. We had a wonderful afternoon sat outdoors enjoying the sun and a beer and a lovely evening later indoors. I highly recommend this village pub to all and we will all be spending many of a Saturday and Sunday afternoon here. Thank-you team for a lovely day/evening and Thank-you for your lovely hospitality. We all look forward to join you again very soon.

Reasonably priced for what you got. The plate was small, but for lunch it was fine. The chicken burger was disappointing, it looked lost in the bun and just tasted cheap, sorry. The sandwiches coming out looked much tastier, next time I'm ordering one. The chips were cooked to perfection. We shared a home made banoffe pie which was lovely, very tasty and not to sweet. Overall, i think i'd rather pay a little more and get better quality. Peas/fresh salad. Cheers. Staff nice and friendly

Brewpub
"The West End Brewery" is a compact and popular public house located outside Leicester city center. The brewery tap offers a friendly and subdued atmosphere with good music in the background. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of beers on tap, including those made on-site, as well as other drink options. Freshly made pizzas with a nice selection of toppings are also available at reasonable prices. The tiny in-house brewery produces a highly drinkable range of real ales, making it worth the trip for beer enthusiasts.
Very much enjoyed my visit here. A very friendly, but subdued atmosphere on my trip. Good music in the background and a wide variety of beer on tap and in the fridge with plenty of other drinks options available. Many beets made on site in the brewery and fresh on tap to enjoy. Freshly made pizzas available with a nice selection of toppings and very well priced throughout. Will definitely be visiting again and well worth the trip outside of Leicester city centre for a visit.

Great pub, about to pull the shutters down, which is a real shame. I'm sad I didn't manage to get across here in the last few years. I hope someone sees the potential and takes it forward.

Compact and popular public house. This is the Brewery tap of "The West End Brewery" who brew at the rear of the property. The public house itself is what was the former "Looking Glass" bar - which was a mirror shop before that. It sprawls across what were two narrow moderate length shops. Seating is mostly around small tables with some padded benches. Disabled accessible entrance but no disabled toilets (toilets are downstairs). Has the range of WEB's own beers as well as a good selection of guest beers as well as has beer festivals. Popular with young professionals and students (this is a student-heavy area as close to De Montfort University and it's associated student accommodation) as this area "The West End" is (currently) perceived as a trendy area! Popular with Real Ale devotees. Not open during day except Friday (from 2pm) and weekends (from 12pm) - 5pm opening is norm during week. Friendly, efficient, knowledgable staff. No beer garden but there is an (assembled and temporary) outside seating/smoking area at front of property on Braunstone Gate. No car park but on-street parking available in adjoining streets BUT it is VERY limited as Residents parking zones predominate in this area and you have to compete with users of the other facilities in the area.

Sadly the West End Brewery closed its doors for good on 31st October 2022 😢 It gets really busy on match days so be prepared. Tiny in house brewery produces a highly drinkable range of real ales. Super friendly team (they even gave us a peak behind the scenes) and freshly made nann bread pizza also available. Always on the list when doing the rounds of real pubs/bars in town

We use the West end brewery on a regular basis, the beer is great, I prefer the stout and my wife loves the choice of gins. The web is child friendly but not over run with small people, it's very dog friendly, snacks on the bar for our furry friends, the staff here are very friendly and knowledgeable about the beers, and I once saw Russ smile. Enjoy your visit!

Small friendly atmospheric real ale pub with a range of decent beers to keep you going for a good few hours. If you're around for the last Tuesday of every month is recommend the quiz night..tough but great fun. A proper pub in a lot of ways

My second favourite boozer in Leicester. Boozer is not fair really, it's more of a bar, and a very nice bar it is too. Great selection of ales, discrete vaping allowed away from the bar, plus my pooch is allowed in too. Very knowledgeable staff, they brew their own beers too. It's a shame I don't live in Leicester, but my wallet thanks me for that. Will be back!

We were standing aimlessly outside this place trying to find a place to eat with our giant dog, the staff came out and pointed us in the right direction which was so lovely of them as they could clearly see we weren’t from around there. We promised to come back and that we did, what an awesome place, they had a great selection of beers on tap loads of fantastic looking cocktails and it seemed to be in a very cool part of town. The place was busy and lively with a great setup. Like I said the staff were super friendly and they love dogs. Will definitely be going back next time I’m in Leicester, even thinking of making a trip specially just for Mowgli round the corner then here…

If you like a slightly more upmarket bar then this is the place to come. Its situated in a lovely area with plenty of eatieres nearby with loads of outside seating. Has an upstairs area if you fancy a quieter or more private location, not that this place is loud. It has a lovely selection of craft beers that you can even try in thirds of a pint. Nice to see another bar not serving the standard drinks most places seem to do. Music wide is varied and seems to be slightly towards the classic rock side. None of this pop rubbish you get everywhere
