Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Wedding venue
Tonbridge Castle, located by the River Medway, is a well-preserved motte and bailey gatehouse from the 11th century. Visitors can explore its history through guided tours, audio guides, and interactive displays. The castle's gardens host various events such as outdoor film screenings, music festivals, and medieval fairs.
Remains of a once very important motte and bailey castle with an impressive gatehouse. The gatehouse is under repair at the moment but is still worth a look if only for the very large motte.

Came here with my walking group to look round and have a drink after our walk. Great location and lovely tea but they do need to have more tables outside, for when we arrived they were all taken and I ended up spilling most of mine down the back of the bench thanks to my poor sight.
Avenues 2 — Google review
Quiet and well maintained grounds. Castle shop selling some refreshments including pre-packer gluten free snacks.
Attila B — Google review
Attended on market day, also coincided with the about parade so it was quite busy. Very nice location, the market could have done with a few more (and varied) stalls!
Thomas G — Google review
Expensive entrance for limited attractions. Some nice features in the "castle", which amounts to really just the gatehouse, the rest of the castle has been destroyed or robbed out. Probably 3/4 of an hour is sufficient. Family entrance £32.
Roger C — Google review
Great little castle, well worth a visit
Nigel A — Google review
Very picturesque and fascinating little castle, you can ask for an audio tour which is included in the price, I feel that the audio equipment could do with updating and come with head phones but overall the tour was interesting to listen to. What's left of the castle inside has been well looked after by the people who run it, and are very helpful and friendly, the grounds offer a lovely walk about on a warm day. Overall a great place to visit!

Parks
Haysden Country Park, located just west of Tonbridge, offers around 65 hectares of parklands with various habitats to explore, including marshland and woodland. The park is a popular choice for families, featuring lake fishing, boating and sailing opportunities, nature trails, a children's playground and dog-friendly walks. Visitors can also enjoy countryside events regularly held in the park. With its large lake and open spaces, the park provides an ideal setting for quality family time amidst nature.
Large car park, pay machine. Toilets and a food truck on site. Lovely walk around the lake, lots of fishing, cycling, joggers, and families. Good paths, suitable for pushchairs. Walked back along the medway, crossing various bridges. Lovely afternoon.
Mark P — Google review
We had a great evening out with the bikes with our son . Very safe for children to bike and amazing lake sights, clean toilets unfortunately the coffee shop was already closed. Will definitely visit again.
Cristina H — Google review
This country park is just outside Tonbridge in Kent. It covers some 65 hectares and includes 2 lakes plus paths that go alongside the river Medway plus woodlands, grasslands and marshland. There are trails to follow with little foot bridges that cross the waterways at various points. You will find seating along the way so you can have a rest or just enjoy the peace. The main car park is a couple of minutes walk from Barden lake which is where you will find the toilets and also an outside cafe. Parking is £2.20 for 4 hours or £5 for the whole day. There are picnic tables at this end of the lake. You will find plenty of water fowl on this lake which I always like, you can walk all the way around on nice wide pathways. Dogs are most welcome and I saw plenty along the way. As you move further out it becomes more peaceful as most people seemed to stay around the Barden lake area. There is also a kids play area near to the main car park too! The walk through to the second lake took me through grassland and woodland and also by the river in parts, I saw a couple of Herons and there were lots of Tweety type birds in the trees which I heard rather than saw. A walk taking in both lakes and the lovely countryside took me a couple of hours, most could have done it quicker than that but I was in no hurry. There are plenty of public footpaths which lead off the paths shown on the map if you have more stamina than me!

Serene country park with a stunning lake. Toilets and cafe as well as a park for children. A nice peaceful location to relax and connect with nature.
Mohammed H — Google review
This is a lovely place to have a walk around the lake, there's a cafe where you csn buy hot and cold food. Teas and coffees, ice-cream. Toilet there as well. Plenty of wild fowl on the lake, including swans, geese ducks etc. People's fish there as well. Parking is £4.25 for 4 hrs, more money if staying for longer. Plenty of seats all around the lake for you to enjoy the views etc. There are longer walks through the woods.
Glenis B — Google review
Lovely place for a walk/run/cycle. The car park is large and reasonably priced. There are several waymarked walking trails which lead you around the lake and through the woods. There are plenty of benches to take a rest or just soak up the view. There are several footbridges throughout the country park also. There is a 5k park run on Saturdays so the main path around the lake can get busy.
Feizal M — Google review
Beautiful place with a large variety of walks. Fantastic, well maintained wildlife reserve. In only a short time I've seen so many different species of insects and birds. Good for all ages.
Amie C — Google review
Great place to spend time outdoor - it's like a playground in the middle of the woods. Massive parking space (4 big areas) that goes round the playground. Parking is not free - £2 for up to 4 hours stay or option 2 - all day parking. Can pay with coins or use the RingGo app. Easy access for wheelchair users. Dogs are not allowed in the play area but there's a massive dog walking area as well as a dog-park near the cafe just before the playground. It's easy to bring a picnic rug and have a picnic with the kids in the play area. Lots of activities to develop kids creativity and support their mental health eg: musical instruments, things to go under and over, zip line, climbing tower with slide and instruments to get directions, learn to level things etc. Not sure if there are any toilets...maybe in the cafe near the dog-park

Sights & Landmarks
Churches & Cathedrals
All Saints' Church in Tudeley is a historic church with an 18th-century brick tower and a marble ceiling. What sets this church apart is its remarkable stained glass windows, all of which were designed by the renowned artist Marc Chagall. Originally commissioned to create a single window as a memorial, Chagall was so inspired by the church that he ended up designing all 12 windows. Visitors travel from far and wide to admire these vibrant and enchanting works of art.
Beautiful very old church, both outside and inside . The footings been listed in the Domesday Book, so its a thousand of years history burried in the grounds. Magnificient trees in the grouds. The church is with relatively simple design, has unusual and beautifuly stained glass windows and provides a magic space to leave behind the modern world and all its troubles.
DESISLAVA D — Google review
A beautiful little church tucked away in the Kent countryside. Well worth a visit if you an art fan and a must visit for fans of Chagall. Every window is a masterpiece. Entry is free and donations are not obligatory, but any art fan will feel the need to contribute a little I am sure.
Steve G — Google review
Lovely little church with beautiful Chagall windows that cast blues and yellows on a sunny day - as we learnt the only church Chagall created designs for. Well kept in and out and we'll worth a visit if in the area.
Hana H — Google review
What an amazing place! This small church, founded back in the 13th century, is full of atmosphere and history. The stained glass windows by Chagall are particularly impressive, and the story behind their creation is fascinating. We were lucky to visit on a sunny day, and the light shining through the windows was simply breathtaking, filling everything around with vibrant colors. So glad we got to see it in such beautiful light!😍🥰🥰😇🙏
Ala G — Google review
Lovely little church with beautiful stained glass windows , visited with my daughter & baby granddaughter recently. Was also some gift items to by in the church , postcards, bibles etc allowing to pay by card or cash. Parking available
Cheryl V — Google review
I went there in spring and it was so pretty. All stained glass windows were amazing.
Takuto S — Google review
Fantastic display of Chagall’s work. At 10:30am on a Sunday morning there was a small service ongoing which made us take our time to sit and observe/feel the atmosphere of this same sacred space which inspired the artist to transform this church. The East window above the altar is spectacular. The juxtaposition of such high art and simple surroundings only heightens the experience. Just go, preferably on a sunny day morning.

Bakery
Cafe
Nestled in a charming setting, The Bakehouse at 124 is a delightful artisan bakery that truly stands out. With its window brimming with an array of beautifully crafted breads—often featuring seasonal ingredients like wild garlic sourdough—and a counter overflowing with tempting cakes, pastries, and tarts (the salted caramel pecan blondie is simply divine!), it's nearly impossible to leave without indulging in multiple treats.
I have to give the Bakehouse 5 stars for their bread alone: their wholemeal and their light rye are (very consistently) the best sourdough I've had: excellent flavour, fluffy texture and a crispy, chewy crust. What is disappointing is that I can't eat more of their bread: they're only open until 2:30pm, 4 days a week (and not on Sunday) and they sell out of bread most days.
Hanlons R — Google review
I came here for coffee but I was almost tempted in getting sweet Christmas treats. They look absolutely scrumptious, especially the gingerbread reindeer. There's not alot of seating area and there wasn't much sugar sachets for the coffee. Only one brown sugar which I have deduct points for that. Another point off for not having a bin around the sugar counter. I do not want to carry my used coffee stirrer stick or sugar packets but as you can see, no bin. I suggest putting a bin around the area, even a small one will do. The coffee was average, costa coffee tastes better and almost the same price so I was slightly disappointed in that area. It was clean, festive and had fast service which is always a plus.
Zoe T — Google review
Really good place for a coffee and a pasty! Building is gorgeous and the baked goods are delicious. I love the turmeric gold drink, specially with coconut milk! Would recommend
Ailin G — Google review
Authentic and cosy, The Bakehouse is a lovely place to have a croissant with coffee or a tasty sourdough bread with poached eggs. Probably the most delicious sourdough I have ever had. Their espresso is impressively good. A few charging points for the laptop professionals are available on the 1st floor. If you visit Tonbridge, I would definitely recommend breakfast at The Bakehouse at 124.
Nick V — Google review
Often pop in for take away coffee which is good here but this time ate in. Food is good - fantastic bread - but generally lacking in atmosphere. Feels a bit worn out and neglected with the tables and chairs downstairs mismatched in charity shop rather than interior design kind of way. Sofas upstairs feel the same and on the day I visited it was freezing outside yet the fires not lit. Hope I caught it on an off day as a beautiful building with lovely serving staff.
Simon M — Google review
Great, home cooked food (presumably without E numbers and other bad additives). Bread is great! Nice place to sit and eat. A couple of things to watch out for though: bring your own chocolate sprinkles if you like them on your cappuccino, as they do not offer this as an option. Secondly, eating-in can have up to an 80% markup, as we found when we ordered a nice treat with some coffee, and ended up with a terrifying bill. The prices shown are all takeaway prices!
David — Google review
Old and tatty interior - they need to spend some money on the furnishings! Expensive (tea and toast £7 and I had to toast the bread myself!) Zero atmosphere too. Quality of bread is good. Won’t rush back.

Public swimming pool
Tonbridge Swimming Pool is a popular spot in Kent, offering both indoor and outdoor pools for families to enjoy. The outdoor pool, open from April to September, is connected to a larger indoor pool and also features toddler and teaching pools. Visitors can make use of the well-maintained facilities including clean changing rooms with family cubicles and baby changers. Additionally, the pool offers spa amenities such as a sauna, steam room, aromatherapy room, and jacuzzi for relaxation.
Been going here ever since it opened and love it. Always clean with friendly staff and with an updated spa it's a gorgeous place to be. The outdoor pool is my favourite which has a shallow area and bucket waterfalls for kids and a grassy area + picnic benches to relax on.
Eleanor H — Google review
This is a fantastic facility with great amenities, and I’ve really enjoyed being a member for nearly two years. However, there are a couple of issues that unfortunately let it down. Firstly, some of the reception staff can be a bit unfriendly, especially if you’ve forgotten your band. Considering how long I’ve been a member, I think it would be more helpful if they looked me up in the system and provided a temporary band rather than making it difficult. I’m not sure why that isn’t an option. Secondly, the smell in the changing rooms really needs to be addressed. As another reviewer mentioned, there’s often a strong odour – like a nappy smell. It might be due to bins not being changed often enough or the drains needing a proper clean. Also, half the changing rooms are often closed, which doesn’t help. The tiling in the changing area also needs more regular cleaning – I’ve noticed quite a few fruit flies and general grime building up. That said, the spa is fantastic, the outdoor pool is great, and the majority of the staff are very, very friendly. With a few improvements, this place could easily be five stars. the overall manager is friendly gentleman unfortunately I have to say one or a couple of Duty managers are slightly unfriendly they have there click and it’s limited ,after all we are the paying customer. The lifeguards are great and the café staff are lovely.
Alison W — Google review
When we arrived we had to book a slot and come back after about 45 minutes wait they should do an online booking like they used to,it was very overcrowded and you either have to pick indoors or outdoors and can't use both which is ridiculous. They showers were so hot even us adults had trouble let alone my young kids. The staff were friendly and also it was relatively clean.
Daniel — Google review
Great amenities for a local pool. However, the shower in the disabled changing room is far too hot (not sure about the main ones?) - scalp had blisters the following day as had no choice but to try and wash my shampoo out... still sore a week later. (and I don't have a sensitive scalp).
Stacey L — Google review
Bit busy, but not too - especially considering weekend & loverly weather. Plenty of room in the great outdoor pool. Reception staff very welcoming & helpful. Noticed a good range of swimwear and kit if have forgot.
Kevin H — Google review
Nice and easy to get signed in, changed and Into the pool area. Plenty of lockers (£1) Have to wait sometimes when busy to get the kids into the pool as they overbook the spaces available. Usually you can get in pretty quickly though.
Andrew P — Google review
A nice pool great for kids to learn to swim, kids love it Unfortunately today we had a really bad experience and updating the stars accordingly. My daughter can swim and has been in the deep end every time we have been 10+ times. She showed them she could swim by swimming a whole length from deep end back again, the life gurd said she was ok. Once change over happened they were told she couldn't swim and was only doggy paddling...... my daughter can swim under water and on her back and is a strong swimmer. The life guards were aggressive and condescending!!

Boat tour agency
Tonbridge River Trips offers a leisurely cruise on the River Medway aboard the Enid May, an electric river cruiser. The knowledgeable skipper provides commentary on the medieval market town's history as you transition from urban to natural surroundings. Keep your camera ready for unique perspectives of the town and potential wildlife sightings such as kingfishers, cormorants, and dragonflies. Additionally, rowing boat rentals are available next to Big Bridge.
We enjoyed a lovely river trip with 11 of us in our group, we had the boat to ourselves. The children were given a trail page to find things along the way which kept them excited and amused. Very relaxing and good value. Would recommend.

Such a lovely trip. I took a gentleman with learning disabilities for his birthday. Issac was friendly, professional and informative. I would highly recommend.
Emma B — Google review
Lovely trip! Piloted by Bob we took a gentle trip up to the town loch then turned around headed up the river in the beautiful surroundings. Children were very kindly given a clipboard with pictures to spot and boats to count which kept them entertained! I think going for a longer ride would be lovely but would keep to the one hour if you have children who won't want to sit still for long! Lovely ride and hope to go again!

We had a wonderful trip today - a really fun way to spend an hour on a (just about!) sunny Sunday afternoon. My son particularly enjoyed doing the children’s spotting quiz, which was a lovely touch. Our guide was so friendly and knowledgable. Can’t believe I have lived in Tonbridge so long without going on one!
Emily M — Google review
Been a resident in Tonbridge for over 30 years but had never been on the river trip, we had an opportunity to go with our grandchildren this week and everyone enjoyed the relaxing boat trip which was so peaceful and highlighted another side to Tonbridge that is not often seen. The activity sheet for the boys was a good idea and went down well, even if the Crocodile they saw was not real!

We had a lovely gentle cruise along a peaceful stretch of the Medway on a very hot afternoon! The activity sheet given to the children kept them amused and they had great fun spotting and marking off the items on the list. Turkish restaurant
Havet Restaurant Tonbridge is a family-owned Turkish-Cypriot restaurant that prides itself on using the freshest and best ingredients to create Mediterranean dishes infused with Middle Eastern spices. The menu offers plenty of options for vegetarians as well. While some visitors found the ambiance lacking and encountered issues with service, others raved about the mouthwatering food, great drink selection, and delicious desserts. Overall, it's a recommended spot for dinner in Tonbridge.
I’ve been to a lot of Turkish restaurants including London and this has got to be up there as one of my favourites. I ordered the chicken thighs and lamb chops. Both were cooked perfectly. The salad was fresh and the sides were a good portion to share between two (in comparison to other spots i’ve visited). Staff were all friendly and helpful with suggestions. Looking forward to visit again.
Nab X — Google review
Great place for a spot of delicious, hearty Turkish food. The food is incredibly tasty, portions are huge, service is friendly, and everything is great value. We ordered a four meat platter with sides (including rice, mac and cheese and two salads), which was all delicious. We also had a pescatarian in the group who was well catered for - the salmon was incredibly flavoursome and the halloumi friends were generous. We also tried out some of the cocktail menu - the passion fruit mojito was amazing! My only tiny criticism is that the restaurant is a very large cavernous room that doesn’t feel particularly inviting/atmospheric - that could maybe be improved by putting in some softer furnishings, plants or dividers to make it feel a bit less industrial, but that said it was very clean and spacious, and we appreciated that we were able to get a table easily! Air con was also brilliant, especially on one of the hottest days of the year.

I recently visited Havet Restaurant in Tonbridge for the first time, as I usually go to their Bromley location. As always, the dishes were fresh and packed with flavour, and the service was exceptional—friendly and attentive throughout. The Helim Fries and Chicken Adana were the highlights of the meal. Havet never disappoints, and I highly recommend visiting—you’re guaranteed a great experience!

Food is always of a high quality and is the best Turkish food I have found in the UK! All the staff are friendly and attentive. Also, they do an NHS discount too which is a massive bonus! We eat here often, their lunch and dinner menus are brilliant. I have also done their bottomless, which was very generous with the booze!

Basil is a popular spot for coffee and dining, offering gluten-free options like blueberry and pecan pancakes with Greek yogurt, as well as bacon and avocado on gluten-free toast. The café is known for its good food, service, and friendly staff.
Lovely staff, tasty food and coffee, great decor and excellent atmosphere. We had the pancakes with bacon and streaky bacon, and the bacon special bap. Really good quality bread and lovely fluffy pancakes, with a latte and a mocha, which came to about £25 total. Very much recommend 😊
K X — Google review
I tried this café out for the first time and the guy who served us was very friendly and welcoming. We only ordered drinks and they came really quickly but the cups and dishes were very dirty. There were a lot of stains, dust and in general some left over bits of coffee etc. I think if it weren’t for that it would be a really nice experience, but it’s that little detail that made even the best coffee not as good. I don’t know if this is just a one off, but generally I would advise to properly rinse dishes before putting them in the dishwasher and checking the dishes before you put drinks in them and give them to a customer. The coffee was really decent and would go again if the dishes and tables were cleaned to standard. Otherwise really good place, so this is just some room for improvement x I really like the interior, as it has a cosy feel and a lot of choices in drinks and food. 4 stars just for the dishes!
Maya C — Google review
I can't rate Basil/ Tonbridge highly enough today! Food was excellent (the tart, quiche and salads) based on taste and freshness and service from George was absolutely OUTSTANDING! He made our party of 4 feel like royalty! In all it was a most fabulous Sunday experience! Well done to the Basil Team! Ingrid Roberts, Tonbridge

Disappointed. I chose to visit the independent coffee shop rather than the chain stores also present in the high street and ended up regretting it. First of all the whole place had an air of closing up even though it was only 3pm ish and so wasn't comfortable sitting there. The biggest problem was that they served me stale cake. It wasn't cheap or reduced in price, but clearly they thought they could get away with it. They replaced it without too much problem, but the only choice was with other cake that was equally old and only saved by the mascarpone on it! All in all, not a good place to go, I recommend trying elsewhere.

At 1PM on Sunday the place was packed, but we were lucky someone was just leaving, so we did get a table. Looks like it's very popular with locals: everyone was chatting with everyone else, except us, of course. The cafe is nice and clean. Pancakes with compote were really nice.

I had a delicious mushroom quiche and two salads. One salad was orzo and was tasty and moist. The other was a coleslaw style and was crunchy. Both tasted super fresh. The coffees were lovely. The cafe is spacious and well maintained. I would definitely recommend a visit. Staff are friendly and professional.

Nestled just off the bustling high street and adjacent to the picturesque grounds of Tonbridge Castle, the Tonbridge Old Fire Station has been transformed into the vibrant Escape Arts Centre. This stunning building is a testament to local architecture, featuring charming arched doorways and striking red doors that are hard to miss.
We visited The Old Fire Station Café in Tonbridge on a Saturday morning and had a delightful experience. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed, and our dog was made to feel just as at home as we were, with free dog treats on offer! The coffee was excellent, and the breakfast was equally impressive – fresh, tasty, and beautifully presented. The staff were friendly and attentive, creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. If you’re looking for a dog-friendly spot with great food and coffee, this café is a gem. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it to others!

Popped in for a bite to eat for lunch. Despite living nearby for a few years, this was my first time visiting. The decor inside is really beautifully done, and keeps to the fire station decor. I had a ham and cheese toastie, lemon San Pellegrino, and a chocolate brownie. The toastie was five pounds so not too badly priced, lunch for two, which was two Toasties, two drinks, and two brownies came to just over £20. The brownie was excellent, the perfect sweet treat at the end of lunch.

Second visit, good bacon roll freshly cooked and hot, good coffee too, the building is great and I like the decor, but my gripe, visited just after opening on Saturday and the floor was covered in bits of food. Must have been from the day before, it’s really not nice eating amongst yesterday’s diners scraps. Maybe a one off, maybe understaffed who knows but seriously sort out front of house before opening even if you have to open late. Made me wonder what the state of back of house was, has the kitchen been cleaned down, has the counter been sanitised, toilets cleaned etc.

Amazing place , I would recommend the fire station to anyone , the staff are absolutely fantastic and definitely one of the best bacon sandwiches in town And please don’t forget about the chocolate brownies ! 5 star service

Fabulous party venue, lovely courtyard and pizza oven outside, plenty of space inside for dancing and drinking, and seating areas. The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble, the alcoholic slushies went down a treat! A huge thank you to Bo, and all your staff, and to Richard for dealing so well with all my questions!

I have bought a number of pieces from this small gallery in Tonbridge High Street, in particular two beautiful glass bowls by Hilary Shields. Lovely to be able to meet the artists and learn more about their work.

Reasonably small collection of local artists work. Nothing very expensive, but a nice selection of work ranging from £50 - £400. Includes a few nice non-painted pieces eg ceramics, vases, bowls, decorations. Not the place to visit if you're looking for a Constable or Turner masterpiece, but good for reasonably priced local artist works.

The Oast Theatre, located in a 19th-century oast house on the outskirts of Tonbridge, is a vibrant community theater that stages a diverse range of performances throughout the year. From comedic plays like 'Moonlight And Magnolias' to entertaining productions such as 'Funny Money,' there's something for everyone. The theater itself has an interesting history, having been transformed from a traditional Kentish Oast house into its current theatrical incarnation in 1974.
Always enjoy my visits here. The theatrical events are very good entertainment, especially good for the price of the tickets. A bar is available, and other refreshments at intervals. The area is blessed with this committed group in their midst. A range of entertainment is available, and programmes are available at the box office. It is a great resource for all ages and a welcome for all.

Quality amateur dramatics in a professional looking small theatre. Well built and interesting sets. Have yet to see a play that I don't like. Highly recommend this local theatre to the people of Hildenborough and Tonbridge.

Brilliant little theatre run by volunteers and producing a new show every month.
Philip H — Google review
This is a very cute little theatre, impeccably put together and great offering. The shows are amateur performances, but with fairly good production value and the price tag reflects that it is not a professional production, so overall left feeling really happy with my experience there.
Samantha H — Google review
This is quite an unusual place for an amateur dramatic group. Firstly they own the amazing building. They put on over 10 very varied plays a year. The membership is very varied, from actors, of course, in every age group, to set builders and painters, people who help with site maintenance, cleaners, people to run the bar and tea during performances. All voluntary. Go along and get a tour or better still, see a play!

The theater is also known for hosting entertaining pantomimes suitable for both adults and children.
What can I say, but BRILLIANT. We took Greek friends to see Snow White, as they were visiting over Christmas. They had no idea what to expect, we just told them to enjoy themselves and they certainly did. Tom Smith as Muddles- pure genius what a superstar. Our friends and their 16 year old daughter said it was the highlight of their holiday. Well done to the entire cast, absolutely amazing entertainment, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Can't wait for the next production. Kindest regards June and Dorian Gaskin

Unfortunately the venue has some of the most uncomfortable seating that I have ever experienced; and I’ve travelled third class on trains in the third world! At most the seats are good for an hour but if the production is any longer I’d strongly recommend looking at alternative venues.

Located in Tonbridge, The Ivy House is a charming gastropub housed in a former toll house. The interior exudes a cozy and inviting atmosphere with its oak beams and vintage decor. The menu offers classic British dishes with a modern twist, served by friendly and attentive staff. Guests can enjoy informal dining while savoring well-presented meals such as ham & eggs with chips or perfectly cooked steaks on special Steak Nights.
One of the best Sunday roasts I have ever had and we keep going back! If you’re looking for a home cooked feel Sunday roast then The Ivy House is the place! I’ve been a few times now and it’s consistently great. The fact that cauliflower cheese and yorkshire puds are included with every roast is just perfect! No hidden extras to pay for - it’s great. Great food! Great value!
Foodie K — Google review
The Ivy House is one of the nicest pubs in Tonbridge. A beautiful old Kentish building maintained and decorated well inside and out. Terrace in particular is really good with an abundance of outdoor heaters and covered areas. Good drinks selection with plenty of premium lagers. Wouldn't mind seeing maybe one or two more experimental options like a hazy pale ale or stout other than Guinness. Staff are great, professional and friendly. Food is great quality and the menu offers a lot of choice. A personal thing, but it would be great to have straight fish and chips as an option. Veggie options could be stronger. What veggie options there are seem overpriced (£16 for a mushroom burger doesn't feel quite right when meat options are the same price.) Broadly the place veers on the pricier side compared to others in the town, but not by much. Most burgers with chips for £16, or £18.50 if you want the chips with toppings. You can clearly see the investment in the business.

Stumbled upon this place yesterday after a very long day trying to get home with a closed M25. The food was some of the nicest I’ve ever tasted (I’ve told friends and family already), the whole pub inside and out is decorated in a really lovely way, and the staff were all amazing. Will definitely be back in next time I’m down for work.

What an absolute pleasure 🤗 The staff are polite and friendly and the food is absolutely delicious 😋 I took my dad and we both had our of the day which was chicken, ham and leek - wow big lumps of chicken in the pie, gorgeous pastry, served with a side of cauliflower cheese in a pot ……cant fault it - then the pudding! We shared a sticky toffee pudding, that too was delicious! Well done Ivy House we will definitely be back 👍🏻 Highly recommend

Very pleasant and cosy atmosphere, reasonably good food (great for breakfast and deserts, decent steak and burger). Amazing food as always unfortunately service was very poor. Waited ages to ask what drinks we wanted. We have just been here for first time & was not impressed, l ordered white wine with dash of lemonade & was served a glass of mainly lemonade, could not taste wine at all ?? The light on the wall above the table went dim making it hard to read the menu...or Bill which seemed to be a lot for what we had? In excess of £60 for 2 meals, one wine, a desert & bottle of water...When we got home my partner studied the bill & found we had been charged for 3 items we had not even had.? Overcharged by £14.00...I wanted to go straight back but it is a few miles from where l live & expect we would be told mistakes cannot be rectified after we left ?? So l suggest people check their bills carefully before paying !!!

Nestled just outside Sevenoaks, Ightham Mote is a captivating medieval moated manor house that boasts nearly 700 years of history and architectural evolution. Renowned for its stunning Jacobean staircase and charming Tudor facade, this property is celebrated as one of the finest examples of traditional English architecture. With a rich past that includes ownership by medieval knights and courtiers to Henry VIII, Ightham Mote offers visitors a glimpse into the lives of high society Victorians as well.
What a stunning and picturesque location. Take the time to walk around the pond for another beautiful view of the castle from a different perspective. Keep in mind the steep walk back up to the entrance if you have mobility issues. Well worth a visit and worth joining National trust because you only need to see a few properties to make it financially worthwhile.

Quick Takeaways 🏰 Fascinating National Trust property with a mix of historic buildings and grounds 🚗 Sat nav may direct you to the old entrance — car park is a few hundred yards further on 🅿️ Easy parking and short walk to the main entrance 🏛️ House is well presented with engaging exhibits; volunteers add valuable insight ⚔️ Special exhibits include WW2 displays, family/staff history, and a WW1 Victoria Cross 🌳 Grounds are well kept — enjoy a short stroll or a longer countryside walk ☕ Café serves good coffee and standard NT food at fair prices 🛍️ Large, well-stocked shop (one of the biggest in the NT) ⏱️ Allow a couple of hours to explore fully Full Review Ightham Mote is a very interesting property managed by the National Trust. Getting there was straightforward, though it’s worth noting that the sat nav directs you to the old entrance — you need to continue a few hundred yards further to reach the car park. Parking is easy and it’s only a short walk to the main entrance. The site itself includes several buildings to explore, such as a couple of second-hand bookshops, a gallery, a coffee shop, the main National Trust shop, and of course, the house itself. The house doesn’t disappoint. It’s well displayed with interesting and engaging exhibits, and the experience is made even better by the knowledgeable volunteers who share insights into the rooms and their history. When I visited, there was a special WW2 exhibit featuring uniforms, artefacts, and interpretive panels telling the stories of the family and staff who served. There was also a section highlighting a Victoria Cross awarded during WW1, which added further depth to the visit. The grounds are beautifully kept and pleasant to walk around. You can either stay within the immediate perimeter of the house or take a longer circular walk into the surrounding countryside. The café served hot, tasty coffee along with the standard National Trust food and snacks at a reasonable price. The shop, one of the largest I’ve seen at a National Trust property, was well stocked with the usual high-quality items. Overall, Ightham Mote is well worth a visit and can easily take up a couple of hours of your day.

Ightham Mote has to be one of the most magical National Trust properties there is. The house itself is so unique in its looks and its history. When you enter and walk through, it's like going through every era of history over the past 700 years — Medieval, Tudor, Victorian to the Mid-century. There are some really fascinating details if you take the time to go through each room slowly. The volunteers and guides are extremely helpful too and are so knowledgeable about the house, you can chat with them for ages. The grounds are also beautiful and the gardens are very well kept, lovely to sit in and read your book on a sunny day! Ightham Mote is a must go and well worth the journey from wherever you are!

What a gem hidden in the depth of Kent. If you hike you can get there via Knole park, but it's a long walk. They do talks 3 times a day and two garden walks. Anthony who gave us garden walk was fantastic! Entrance is nearly 20 pounds, but it's definitely worth it as Mote itself is stunning inside with plenty to explore.bit took me 3 hrs to explore but I was limited with time, otherwise would definitely stay for lunch or coffee and relax in of the gardens or ponds.

What a fabulous day out! Ightham Mote is a truly magical place to visit, steeped in over 700 years of history. Apparently, it’s the most complete medieval moated manor house in England. The grounds offer wonderful walks, a natural play area for children, and a lovely café with delicious, reasonably priced options. The house itself is stunning, both inside and out. One of the highlights has to be the spectacular Tudor symbols painted on the ceiling of the New Chapel in the 16th century. I can’t wait to return and explore more!

Visitors can enjoy amenities such as an on-site cafe serving hot drinks and food, as well as ice cream. Throughout the year, Dunorlan Park hosts various outdoor events including a November fireworks display and weekly Park Runs.
Great park. We stopped here for a picnic, a walk and a trip out on the pedalos, and enjoyed all 3 activities! There are plenty of benches to sit on and a nice path around the park and central lake. The pedalos were a lot of fun too.
Natalie M — Google review
Dunorlan Park is an absolute delight — a proper slice of countryside heaven tucked right into Tunbridge Wells. The grounds are immaculate, the views are postcard-worthy, and there’s a peaceful vibe that makes it perfect for everyone from solo wanderers to full-on family outings. We hopped on the pedal boats and honestly, it was one of the highlights of the day. Gliding across the lake with the sun out and ducks bobbing nearby? Bliss. It was calm, relaxing, and just the right amount of effort. The café hit the mark too — friendly service, solid coffee, and great little treats to fuel the fun. Now, the only reason this isn’t a glowing 5-star review: the sandpit. It was rock solid. Like, bring-a-jackhammer solid. The kids were raring to dig in, but it was more concrete jungle than sandy playground. Bit of a letdown in an otherwise top-tier park. Still, Dunorlan delivers in every other way. If they sort that sandpit out, this place would be unbeatable. Highly recommend for a day out — just maybe skip the spade and head for the boats instead!

Lovely park! Great for short walks and picnics with family. Several friendly ducks and geese around. There were even some goslings when we visited in June. Boating in the summer is a nicer little treat. There is a small cafe with several tables indoors and a few outside. It does get crowded on weekends and holidays. Parking available from £1, free after 6pm.

I always have a lovely time in Dunorlan. The lap of the lake has some slopes, but there are plenty of benches on the way round. The park is always beautifully presented in all seasons, and it’s nice to see the ducks on the lake. Inevitably I always get my phone out to take a photo of a new plant I have spotted, or the general view.

Had never been there before but will definitely going back. A very large place to walk you dog 🐕 or go for a jog. Has a very nice cafe with large selection of food and drinks to choose from. Great place to walk your dogs .. take a picnic or sit on one of many beaches to read a book. It also has a great play area for the kids or grandchildren to play and if you to to take a boat out on the lake. All has a set side of the lake to chill out and do abit of fishing

The gardens are not only known for their beauty but also for the elusive yeti sightings that take place predominantly between 2pm and 4pm on weekends and school holidays. Visitors can explore sculptures, secret pathways, and learn about its historical ties to Darwin and the Great Plant Hunters.
We enjoyed our visit on Saturday very much. The bluebells were spectacular, as were the Rhododendrons and azaleas. The paths, though a bit steep in places, were, on the whole, well maintained and the cafe was busy and well stocked with plenty of choice. We also liked the craft fair and thought that the plants and garden gifts were very well priced. NB it's a cash free garden, so pay by card only.

Really lovely gardens! Beautiful flowers and trees - some formal gardens but also lovely paths going here and there! Some rough and hilly and a bit steep for wheelchairs but the main part of the gardens would be lovely for anyone. Staff were friendly and very helpful - great cafe and lovely pots of tea! A lovely day out for family ! ….and we will definitely be going again!

Just WOW this place is absolutely beautiful! Lots to do and lots to see! The staff were all very friendly particularly those in the cafe who were very friendly and careful with cross contamination due to my allergies! Will definitely be visiting again and even considering buying a annual pass we enjoyed it that much!

This garden is absolutely stunning, especially during the rhododendron season. I am sure it is beautiful all year round, but I was blown away by the colourful blooming rhododendron, and a woodland full of bluebells during my visit in the late spring. The maze is fun and the view of the surrounding area from the top is fab too. It would be interesting to revisit during a different season to enjoy the seasonal changes.

Visited on the weekend, we were looking for a place to break off from the London environment... On arrival it was quite busy, but still couple of spaces on car park which was quite generous... We stopped at the coffee shop for a panini and a sandwich with coffee and we tasted the cherry lemon cake... We went up to viewpoint ( nice views ) and than we walked through the bluebell paths ( small area of wood land )... We walked through the garden up the rocks path to viewpoint again... Benches everywhere through woods, you can stop and sit down, meditate or simply enjoy the nature... Nice space, nice garden design and floral/ trees arrangements... There are 2 impressive pines which captured our attention... Overall is a nice space for spending couple of hours between flowers and trees ( especially like this time of year when bluebells and blossoms season)... Not far from London... Excellent day out, we had a good time here... Worth visiting, and will be back... ( I would change the flag from viewpoint as quite old... A new one would do better )

The restaurant has received positive feedback for its tasty fish cake and Thai dumpling starters, as well as the chef's special duck curry. Customers appreciate the friendly and attentive service, along with the generous portion sizes. Despite being a bit of a walk from the train station, there is ample parking nearby.

Been a few times and are always surprised the by the food quality and service. It's honestly amazing tasting food and as someone with quite a restrictive diet, the options re immense and on the normal menu too! Could not recommend enough.

Great atmosphere and delicious food. I could happily eat here every day. The lunch menu is great value too
Christopher B — Google review
Terrible service. I was walking past the restaurant with my family, still deciding what to eat. I glanced through the windows and was already glared by one of the staff. But at the end, my family decided to dine there. Waited for so long to order food, I even raised my hand to get their attention but they decided to ignore me. There was not many customers during that time but they seemed not to know how to prioritize things. They decided to fill water cups and placing cutlery for customers who haven't even have their food served yet instead of placing order for someone who have their hands raised for a long time. Not worth eating there if being treated like this. Especially the lady. So rude
Julie — Google review
Avoid if vegetarian. Good service considering we were a large group. The food is really good, HOWEVER some apparent veggie options on the menu are not vegetarian which I have only realised after reading another review which states the other reviewer double checked what was veggie/ vegan and none of the mains are veggie let alone vegan as they contain fish or shrimp paste! Including the veggie spring rolls which I am sure were labelled vegetarian. I told the waitress when we ordered that myself and my partner are vegetarian and she said nothing about the food not being veggie which I think is completely out of order. Had I realised at the time I would not have ordered the curry or the spring rolls. We asked for tempura vegetables which was not on the menu but they did it anyway (hopefully that actually was veggie). No vegan options on the menu at all. They need more detail on their menu such as allergens and whether something is actually veggie or vegan as they offer vegetable options with the currys but it's not clear to the customer the curry sauce is NOT vegetarian. I mean they must realise that most people asking for a curry with vegetables is going to be a vegetarian! It does say on the menu to ask them if you have allergies (not if you are vegan/ veggie). It would be fairer and more respectful to customers to see that information up front and much less misleading. If they could do a sauce or main without the shrimp paste I would go back but otherwise I will not be returning as it is not a vegetarian or vegan friendly place and they basically intentionally mislead you as another reviewer has complained about the same thing and they have done nothing about it. - With regards to the response below I am still not happy I told the waitress we were vegetarians, I didn't realise that I needed to give her a speech on exactly what that means and what 'type' of vegetarian we are! Vegetarians do not eat fish if you eat fish you are not a vegetarian - that is a fact! Pescatarian is the term for people who eat fish but not other meat. Your menu is poorly labelled why don't you just make it clear on the menu - is that really so hard to do? You have had two lots of feedback about this but are still insisting that vegetarians need to have a discussion with you about their diet and exactly what they will or won't eat instead of clearly being able to read what your food contains on your menu like 99% of other restaurants so they can make an informed choice. And the spring rolls were advertised as vegetarian when they are not so that is lying. I'm so unhappy with the response below I wouldn't trust this place if you are veggie or have allergies.
Miren H — Google review
We enjoyed lunch, red curry with chicken and rice and Thai rice with chicken both sided by spring rolls, and Jasmine tea. The place was clean, quiet and with good service. The food was mildly spiced with good flavor and served hot and fresh.

Really loved the food here, I had the seabass - crispy skin and delicately cooked, with perfect risotto. My partner had the hispi cabbage vegetarian dish, which was also fantastic. So good we went back 3 times !!! Staff super friendly and understand the menu. Toilets clean and no queue. Vegan options a plenty - Yipee ! Sunday roast - great portions and blooming tasty :-) Chocolate tart, just have it! Oh and the marmite fries, I live marmite but I wasn’t convinced - however once we had them we were fighting over them - definitely try them! The shawarma, hispi cabbage, crispy mushrooms - basically all Of it was tasty, fresh , well seasoned and made from quality ingredients. If we had something like this at home I would definitely be a regular - suffice to say this is a go if you get the chance venue ! There is an outside area which we didn’t use as mum was still recovering but looked and sounded great ( think there was live music / dj - but you’d have to check !)

We went to The Guinea for brunch as a group of four and had such a lovely experience. The service was fantastic — really attentive, with staff regularly topping up our drinks and checking in on us throughout. The food was fresh and tasty, and everything came out quickly. The only small thing was that we didn’t realise the burgers didn’t come with chips, so we ordered them separately — but they arrived quickly, were delicious, and definitely worth adding on! Highly recommend and we’ll definitely be going back.

We went to our first quiz night at the Guinea and had such a great time. Jack was the best quiz host we’ve had and made the whole evening so enjoyable. It was silly and fun and not too serious which is exactly the type of quizzes we enjoy. We will definitely be back for more! We had some food to eat too and were very impressed with the quality given the breadth of the menu. Wonderful experience and all the staff were great.

Located in Kent, Greensand Ridge Distillery offers an immersive experience in the art of distilling and gin-making. Visitors have the opportunity to create their own unique bottle of gin by selecting from a wide range of botanicals and using individual copper pot stills. The owner, Will, is knowledgeable and passionate about his craft, providing expert guidance throughout the process. After the distillation session, guests can enjoy a food platter in the courtyard while chatting with Will.
Spent an afternoon here on a gin distillery day, learning how to and actually making our own gin. Fantastic experience and boy their own gin is delicious.

Friday evening gin experience. Excellent evening. Learnt lots about gin (& other alcohols) in general as well more their approach reusing as much as possible to be sustainable. Yet it wasn't in anyway a marketing pitch. Making own gin was great fun and good result. Time flew by. Would recommend and will certainly be buying more bottles in the future!

Excellent day here with my dad for a gin making experience. The owner (apologies I have forgotten your name) was very welcoming and incredibly knowledgeable about all things spirit. All of the spirits we tried were exquisite and the fact that almost everything from the process is re used and sustainable is great! Would certainly recommend the gin gin making experience and their spirits to all! Rye Cask gin was our favourite.

A great experience. The owner was very welcoming and had everything ready for the Gin making experience. Will "the owner" is an expert in his area but very good at explaining the fermentation process and when it comes making your own, great fun. A food platter was provided afterwards in the courtyard and Will joined us for a chat. All in all a great experience and I would recommend to anyone, and you get to come away with your own home made gin.

Wonderful afternoon at the Greensand Ridge Distilliery. It far exceeded my expectations, and we actually made our own unique bottles of gin by an authentic distillation of our own selection of botanicals, using individual alembic stills. Thank you for a fascinating, involving, and entertaining session.

Shopping
Royal Victoria Place is a bright and spacious indoor shopping center featuring well-known chain stores, a food hall, and a children's play area. However, the mall currently suffers from numerous unoccupied units, and even the shops that remain seem sparse during weekdays. Despite this lack of activity within the mall, some individuals appreciate its empty atmosphere. While visitors may admire Victoria's portrait in mosaic form at the venue, some wish that it had included depictions of local ancestors as well.
Nice place to shop and chill with friends. Good vibe and plenty of spots to grab a coffee or just relax.

This is the worst Mall I've ever been to, i came here on a Thursday and 3 quarters of the stores were already closed at 4 o'clock. The only place where you coul get food is a small cafe. The bathrooms were also really dirty. Some of the staff in a store were also very racist and mean. I saw them fatshaming a lady right before left the store

Trinity Theatre is a performing arts venue that offers a variety of entertainment options such as classical theatre, music, films, and visual arts. The theatre also has children's shows featuring animation and puppetry. Despite some concerns about expensive drinks at the bar and slow service during intervals due to limited staff, Trinity Theatre remains a lovely community space with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Its comfortable seating and great selection of films make it an enjoyable experience for all visitors.
I saw Ghost Train at this theatre. It was a good production in a lovely theatre but I particularly wanted to mention how great the staff are. I asked if I could use a hearing assistance pack but they were having technical issues. They couldn't have tried harder to get one working for me and kept me informed all the way through. In the end they couldn't get it working but until this morning I didn't know they had these available and I had booked the second row so could hear most of the production. Really great staff (though I believe they may actually be volunteers).

The Tunbridge Wells Museum and Art Gallery is a sophisticated destination that showcases the rich local history, art collections, archaeology, and unique collectibles. Although it has been undergoing renovations since 2019, visitors can still explore its fascinating exhibits through self-guided walks around the town. One highlight includes the exquisite Tunbridge Ware woodwork boxes, which are a testament to the area's craftsmanship and can be found in various antique shops nearby.
Totally transformed from when I was a child visiting here and totally wonderful space. They've preserved all the exhibits in stylish cabinets and display areas. There's a temp exhibition space for kids, a beautiful atrium with artwork and a cool cafe. It reminds me of the Melbourne Central Library. The kids library is so well thought out with books displayed and not just housed. Murals on the wall depict scenes and people from Tunbridge Wells history. There are cubby holes and interactive displays. And also the old rocking horse and dolls house that used to be in the old museum. What an amazing space.

To finish, there is a cafe downstairs with loads of options and great staff.

Since reopening, the Amelia Scott library/museum space is now a wonderful place in Tunbridge Wells. The blending of library, museum, exhibition space is a really good idea as previously they were distinct, separate and if you went for one, you didn't tend to go into the others. Also like the "suggested" books put out as I've stumbled across a lot of new books. So even whilst I still buy a lot of books, the Amelia Scott, library/museum has rekindled my engagement with literature.
Jeremy B — Google review
I've mixed feelings; I felt there was a lot of unused space on the ground floor. The adult library could have been larger as I felt cramped in between some bookcases & book choices were limited. The kids library was being used for story time, so I couldn't look for, nor get help with a child's language book. Help Points were very busy with an 8 min wait (I was there at 10:15). Gave the impression of being a large cafe & meeting point. Perhaps I might feel different about it, in time!

First time in this cosy cafe, the breakfast was tasty and the service friendly. Is located next to the station, is comfortable, have tables indoors and outside. I ate a delicious ham & cheese omelette with chips and my hubby ate a traditional English breakfast. 💯 % recommended.

As a first-time visitor to Sevenoaks, I was pleasantly surprised to discover Saltwater, a hidden gem offering an impressive combination of fish and chips, fried chicken, smash burgers, and café-style dishes – all under one roof. The food is of very good quality, clearly freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. I opted for the crispy chicken, which was perfectly seasoned and cooked to golden perfection. The fish was large, flaky and fresh, encased in a light, crisp batter. The chips were crunchy on the outside, soft inside – just as they should be. A major plus point is that the menu is Halal, making it an inclusive choice for a wider range of customers. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the place was spotlessly clean with a relaxed, modern atmosphere. Whether you are in the mood for traditional fish and chips or something more indulgent like a juicy smash burger, Saltwater delivers on taste, variety and service. A fantastic spot for a casual meal – highly recommended.

Easter Monday morning for a breakfast. Not at all busy. Took one of the set choices. Good service, good quantity on the plate, good coffee to go with it. Interior is spacious. Atmosphere not really relevant! Slightly more expensive than what I paid elsewhere nearby a couple of days earlier but good value.

I walked in as was really hungry. I ordered cod chips and a savaloy. The place was very clean and the staff seemed to be attentive. The cod was okay. The batter was crispy. The savaloy was the blandest I’ve ever tasted. Absolutely no flavor whatsoever. And the chips I’m not convinced these are freshly made. I feel they came out of a bag. They were dry and very bland. Not crispy or tasty. This place needs to change its supplier of the savaloy and switch potato or brand of bagged chips.

Teddies is run here. It is a really great community service as there are so few free play groups for children in this affluent area. These types of services should not be so limited. But I guess in an affluent area who cares about the struggling parents? The council should do more. Especially, on weekends and not just during term time. Thank you Teddies for providing this. Not enough like this exists. I originally come from outside of Kent where I was had free children's groups that occured frequently. Tonbridge and Malling Council should be ashamed of itself. They should not be leaving it up to the charity of the church.

Park
National Trust - Knole is a grand country house featuring various architectural styles and opulent interiors, along with a 26-acre walled garden. It houses an internationally significant art collection, including works by renowned artists such as Reynolds, Gainsborough, Van Dyck, Lely, and Kneller. The estate also boasts extraordinary 17th-century state furniture and the original manuscript of Virginia Woolf's Orlando.
We visited Knole Park in Sevenoaks as a family and had a fantastic day out. The park itself is absolutely beautiful, with wide open spaces, stunning historical landscapes, and of course the striking Knole House and castle at its heart. The views are spectacular, and it really feels like stepping back in time. One of the highlights for the children was spotting the deer, which roam freely around the park and add to its magical atmosphere. The grounds are very family-friendly, with plenty of space for little ones to run around safely. Facilities were excellent – the café was a lovely spot for a break, with good options for both adults and kids, and the toilet facilities were clean and easy to find. Parking was completely hassle-free, which made the start and end of our trip stress-free.

A great place to visit. The house is full of wonderful art work and items dating back to the 16th century. The guides are friendly and knowledgeable. The grounds have several walks and you do not have to go far to see deer roaming freely. Cafe is well stocked and the gift shop and book shop hold a variety of items.

Quick Takeaways 🏰 Vast and impressive National Trust estate — best enjoyed on a fine weather day 🦌 Scenic walk to the entrance with freely roaming deer (great photo opportunities) 🗝️ Attic tour is a must for hidden history; tower climb offers 360° views (though not as dramatic as Petworth) 🚶 Estate’s true beauty revealed by walking the grounds — allow plenty of time 🏛️ House is well preserved, full of artefacts and information; knowledgeable volunteers enhance the visit ☕ Café was a let-down: busy, not enough seating, limited food options, and inconsistent with other NT properties ⏱️ At least a half-day visit — wear sensible clothes and sturdy walking shoes Full Review Knole Estate, managed by the National Trust, is an impressive and vast sight to behold. Like many National Trust properties, the weather plays a big part in shaping the experience — this is one venue where you’ll want to go on a nice day to really make the most of your visit. Parking is straightforward, and the walk to the entrance is made special by the casually grazing deer scattered around the estate. Their sheer number makes for a memorable arrival and some excellent photo opportunities. To get the most out of the house, the attic tour is a must — it gives a fascinating look into the inner workings and history of the building. Climbing the tower provides a full 360° view of the estate. The vista is pleasant, though not quite as dramatic as Petworth. To truly appreciate Knole in all its glory, you need to explore the wider estate on foot — that’s when its real beauty emerges. The house itself is well preserved and packed with remarkable rooms, artefacts, and detailed information. As is often the case with the National Trust, the volunteers were friendly, knowledgeable, and added real value to the experience. The only real disappointment was the café. It was busy, with not enough seating, a lack of cleanliness, and a limited food selection. The range of snacks seems to vary from property to property, which can make the offer feel inconsistent. To take it all in properly, you’ll need at least half a day. Be sure to wear sensible clothing and sturdy walking shoes if you plan to explore the estate fully.
MilPoPo — Google review
A very well presented estate dating back to the 1400s. The manor house as is typical for National Trust locations has plenty of information in each room. You are advised to book a slot for a tour on the website on busy days, i.e. weekends. The deer park is vast and you can easily spend a good couple of hours walking through the grounds. Plenty of parking and good selection of food.

Knole Park in Sevenoaks is a beautiful and peaceful place to visit. The park is huge, with wide open fields and plenty of wild deer walking around freely — it feels magical. The historic Knole House is very impressive and full of character, with lovely views from the grounds. It’s a perfect spot for a walk, picnic, or quiet day out surrounded by nature. There’s also a small café and gift shop nearby. I’d definitely recommend Knole to anyone who enjoys history, fresh air, and the calm beauty of the English countryside.

Beautiful place, with lots around such a start of beautiful story and history - which is purity much still " living" with us (as the UK has so much to offer for those who appreciate history, nature). (Special "Thank You " Toby for taking time to give me a bit of history and story about this beautiful Place - with such a enthusiasm and very much of knowledge). I can recommend to gain a membership with National Trust as there is so much places around the UK and same time to support beautiful and living UK history.

Beautiful place to visit. Autumn colours were amazing. No real map of the place that I saw Good for all kinds of people £6 for car park and inc entrance to tower. Lovely coffee shop with i door and outdoor areas. Can hire mobility scooters

Wonderful place to visit, mainly for the huge park. The house itself is interesting but the area you can visit is surprisingly small compared with the vast size of the house as a whole. Signage is a bit confusing, and the visitor centre is a bit tucked away round the side. The cafe is great, but quite separate from the house and shop/visitor centre, which again was surprising. You could go to the house and never know it was there!

The Pantiles is a charming Georgian colonnade that offers a delightful mix of boutiques, galleries, and open-air cafes. Visitors can enjoy summer jazz concerts while exploring the variety of shops and dining options available. The area is known for its vibrant atmosphere and hosts a popular market on the first and third weekends of each month. Additionally, visitors can experience the historical Chalybeate Spring and even sample its water served by costumed dippers.
This is a unique area of Tunbridge Wells and offers a range of excellent shops, cafes, art galleries, interesting shops, and novel places to visit. There is a Pantiles market offering a selection of homemade high-quality goods from clothing, jewellery to edible products, and a range of individual artistic wares. It is a lovely way to spend any day just browsing or meeting friends.

Words cannot adequately express the sheer opulence and architectural beauty of the Pantiles. Glorious restaurants with Al Fresco dining. A plethora of individual specialised independent shops juxtaposed with jettied timber houses, a bandstand and a weekly market. Essentially the town was based upon its spa and the Georgian noblemen who took the waters. The majority of architecture is George 11V William 1V. but there are also some substantial Victorian villas There is a large surface car park nearby. The Duke of York pub serves excellent fare. Don’t deny yourselves the opportunity to visit this haven of beauty that personifies the best of England. A short walk away takes you to the opera house that JD Wetherspoon have made into a pub without destroying any of the previous infrastructure and furnishings

It is a lovely area full of little boutique shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. Menswear is in short supply all over this town (in my very small size) but if you want some art, be it paintings or sculptures, copper moulds for one's rustic farmhouse kitchen, a new blue Le Crueset Casserole Dish ( it is nicer than the usual orange) then this is the place for you. Jazz nights, food festivals, plenty of hotels, it is a nice place to visit. Luckily I am staying with a friend who has an amazing apartment in the middle of it.

The restaurant offers an outstanding, Michelin-starred culinary experience at extremely reasonable prices. Each dish impresses with refined flavors, top-quality ingredients, and creative presentation. The atmosphere is just as inviting as the excellent service team, which makes the visit a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and highly recommend this restaurant!

One of the best breakfasts I have had and served all day. The tapas options are pretty stunning too! I’ve tried most of the menu but the eggs royale on a croissant is something quite special and I’m addicted. Only tiny criticism would be to offer other bread types as I personally don’t love soda bread - but that’s a personal preference

Temper Temper Chocolate in Southborough is a charming destination for anyone looking to dive into the world of chocolate-making. This family-run establishment offers hands-on workshops where you can create your own truffles, florentines, or molded figures under the guidance of skilled experts. Perfect for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries, these experiences are not only fun but also educational. Kids can join in on the excitement during limited summer workshops available for booking online.
I hosted my daughter's birthday at Temper Temper after attending an adult florentine workshop last Christmas. Alison and her team were professional, ensuring the children had fun while following safety guidelines in the kitchen. The staff kept everyone engaged and on track, making the chocolate-making process both educational and fun. Everyone took home the delicious treats they made as their party bag. My daughter said it was her best party ever 😍 I highly recommend this unique and enjoyable workshop.

Will definately be booking another Additional review cos I can't add another: 11/02/22 we last minute enquired about attended the truffle workshop and was so pleased they could fit us in. Wow what an experience! It was so much fun (even though my balloon burst). Lots of laughing, mess and chocolate. Sarah was amazing and a great teacher and the group we got to know made me feel like a kid again. Walked away with a large quantity of truffles in a new flower cup (made by Sarah). Such a friendly atmosphere and a definate treat for all ages. Many many thanks

Nestled on the border of Kent and East Sussex, Bewl Water is a picturesque reservoir that offers a perfect blend of land and water activities for families. Bewl Water Reservoir is a fantastic spot for outdoor activities all year round. We visited during Christmas and were delighted by the festive atmosphere, with lots of fun activities for kids and families. In the summer, it’s ideal for kayaking, water sports, or simply enjoying the beautiful landscape. A peaceful, welcoming place with plenty of greenery – highly recommend!

I came here with my family for a sunny day outside and we thought it could have been nice spending it near a lake (or reservoir). Well, it was an amazing idea. The reservoir is huge and so the park. I guess we probably saw 2% of it. But it was already sufficient to have great fun and enjoy the playground, the million of bluebells all around, the picnic. My kids loved it, too. There's a big car park to pay with ring go. Then you get to the main facility with a wide area to buy food with tables indoors and outdoors and a beautiful view on the lake. There's even a mini golf and a climbing wall. Then you have this green slope towards the lake with a big wooden boat as entrance to the playground. The main attraction was the huge slide. I think my kids spent an hour there! I don't know what the rest of the park can offer, but I saw you can hire some boats or board to get into the lake. It totally deserves a visit!

Bewl Water is a beautiful and peaceful place to spend the day. It’s perfect for family picnics with kids as well as couples looking for a quiet outing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A magical spot to connect with nature Bewl Water is absolutely beautiful! The lake is stunning 😍 surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery that made me fall in love instantly. Everything was clean and well maintained, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The car park is very spacious, including lots of disabled bays, and it only costs around £8 for the whole day (paid via Ringo) very reasonable. There are clean toilets on site and a lovely cafe with gorgeous views over the lake, perfect for a little break. One of the best surprises of the day was discovering the dog wash station! I was able to give my pup Santiago 🐾 a proper bath for just £7 😁 it costs £3.50 for 3 minutes and it's totally worth it 💷 I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a peaceful escape with beautiful views, great facilities, and a dog friendly atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back!
Cary Z — Google review
Had a wonderful few hours riding the circular route around Bewl Water country park. Despite dam relief work ongoing, it doesn’t affect the experience. The trail is through woodland and open meadow, giving views across the water and occasionally taking to quiet country roads. The footpath is around 13 miles of effort. As I was cycling my trip meter registered around 16 mile due to not being able to follow the footpath. Some areas are cycle free. The route was well maintained and dry with only a couple of wet patches with streams, run off from fields etc. But after a tiring ride I was glad that the Coffee shop was open. I went on a quiet midweek day but I can see Bewl Water getting busy on bank holidays. There’s plenty of nature to see as well. Plants, birds, insects, a whole spectrum of wildlife.
Allan R — Google review
Very nice experience with good quality bikes. I got lost once or twice but it just made the adventure more rememberable. The bikes were very easy to work with and the gears changed with a click of a button. Very nice scenery 10/10 would recommend
Ali B — Google review
Bewl Water is a nice location for a decent walk. Whenever I've gone I've always done the full loop, which is about 13 miles. A small part of the walk leaves the reservoir edge and diverts through some country lanes. These can be quite steep if you're not used to hills, but overall the rest of the walk is nice and flat. Some parts could do with additional signposts, but generally it's easy to stay on track. There is a centre with cafe and play park, mini golf etc. And there is also an inflatable water park too. There is plenty of parking, although it's a little expensive for the day, (£8.50 at time of writing). This is a lovely walk and one I always enjoy.

The coffee served here has garnered praise as some of the best around, making it a perfect spot to unwind.

The tearoom is amazing. Lovely staff and delicious fresh foods. The kentish rarebit is an absolute tastebud delight. My 8 year old boy was in love with the fresh tasting salad and slaw and the cokefloat was amazing. Their coffee is the best I've found so far. The gardens are so much bigger than I was expecting when we started our wander. It would have been a 5 if not for the man in the shop. He came over to offer wrapping our brakeables that we was purchasing but for some reason took one look at us and our small pile of goods and declared "maybe not".... Whatever that meant. We finished our purchase and immediately left. Found that to incredibly rude. Otherwise a lovely place and will be back...probably avoid the shop though. Shame as had made a wishlist.

The garden centre is closed, no notice up about why, devoid of plants and merchandise Therefore, there is no access to the toilets. Unfortunately, the college seems to be planning a mini golf course. Which will lower the tone of the area. Otherwise, we visited on a Friday lunchtime, no one around, peace and quiet.

The impressive structure of the Hadlow Tower, situated on private property, presents a challenge for those seeking to capture close-up shots. Thankfully, a knowledgeable woman offers helpful guidance to ensure optimal photography locations. However, it is essential to note an additional detail when following her directions: commence the journey across from house number seven while taking precautions against stinging nettles by wearing long trousers. As a prize recipient in a competition, I had the privilege of staying overnight in this extraordinary holiday home.
Beautiful tower, it's a shame it isn't open to the public

Nice tower on private property. It is very difficult to get close for closeups. There's a lady who gives good directions to follow to have the best spots for photographs. Only 1 addition to her directions. The path to follow starts opposite nr 7. Lots of nettles. Wear long trousers or you'll regret it.
Jorita S — Google review
After reading nice reviews about this tower we have decided to see it with our own eyes and didn't regret our decision. The building is absolutely spectacular! It can be seen even from the distance because it is very high above the trees. Hadlow octagonal tower locally known as May's folly, is a Victorian tower, and apparently, one of the largest in Britain! It was built in 1838 by architect George Ledwell Taylor. We have parked our car just outside of the barber shop, which located on the left handside not far away from main entrance gates, and walked to the direction of the St Mary's Church. Just before entrance to the church yard, there is the path you can take on the left hand side, which if you follow around and through building up area you will come to the dead end, where you have to turn right and continue the alley way until you will see the gates on the right handside. If you go through the gates and follow the overgrown path, you can come closer to the tower and take nice shots. The best shots, in my opinion would be from the field or across the litter lake, which is not far from the tower. Definitely unforgettable experience and we are recommending it!

RSPB Tudeley Woods offers a peaceful and beautiful setting for a hike, with well-marked trails that provide an opportunity to spot wildlife such as foxes, deer, and buzzards. The heathland link trail is approximately 3 miles long and takes about two hours to complete. The area features diverse terrain including meadows, streams, and forests with an abundance of berries. While parking may be limited, the clear paths and abundant wildlife make it a worthwhile destination for nature enthusiasts.
Had a really peaceful and beautiful walk in RSPB’s Tudeley Woods today. The car park wasn’t open so we had to park on the side of the road but then the trails were well-marked and really fun. Would love to come back at different times of the day and year.

Racecourse Park is an expansive and well-maintained outdoor area with ample room for various activities. It features football pitches, basketball courts, and a satisfactory children's play area. On weekends, it tends to be bustling with visitors. The park offers decent equipment and even has mini golf facilities as well as mobile coffee shops for refreshments. However, the quality of the coffee may not be the best or most affordable, priced at three units for a medium-sized latte.

If you're from the area you know all about Tonbridge Park, or Racecourse Park as it's known on maps. The perfect area for walking, running, rowing, sport, meeting with friends, and many other activities. Those who grew up here will know this as the backbone of their childhood. As children we would cause no end of chaos in the children's play area. Constantly keeping our parents on their toes. As teens we would hang around in the "back fields" with our friends, chatting until sundown and listening to music. Now as an adult it is my exercise arena, a photography hotspot, and in summer where I play football or tennis with friends. Even then I'm only scratching the surface of what there is to do. A bowls club is hidden away on the station side, a swimming pool on the other, fishermen can be seen on the muddy banks, and when the wind allows, children being taught how to fly kites. For the sake of keeping it brief and not going into a ramble, the park is the beating heart of Tonbridge life, and I doubt a single person who lives here has not got fond memories of times they have spent here.
