The tour at Museo Antonio Manzi is a fantastic experience. The museum's layout allows visitors to explore the comprehensive journey of the artist's artistic and personal history. It is truly captivating to witness the various techniques that Maestro Manzi has honed and customized over the years. This museum comes highly recommended for art enthusiasts seeking a glimpse into an artist's evolution and mastery of their craft.
(Translated by Google) I recently became aware of this master of art. I visited the museum which is about to close soon because the municipal library will move to the villa that hosts it after restoration. Alas, the magnificent works will be stored for at least two years before they can be exhibited again in the structure adjacent to the current one before the related restorations are completed. I advise anyone interested to go now and admire the versatility of this artist who ranges from painting to sculpture and countless forms of artistic expression. Highly recommended. The only regret is the inattention and disinterest of the municipal administration in promoting such an artistic level, a value for our territory.

(Translated by Google) The Antonio Manzi museum, located in the beautiful villa of Pratello di Campi Bisenzio, once a possession of the Rucellai family and now the seat of the city council, is truly surprising. It is surprising for the variety of works and the versatility of this contemporary artist, who in 109 works exhibited in five rooms accompanies the visitor on an ideal journey through his artistic life, from his first works to the works of his last years, created in many different techniques, in a continuous evolution that releases a hypnotic force that strikes the visitor at the heart. A little-known priceless treasure. I hope that future administrators will be able to enhance this priceless reality. Maestro Manzi's self-portrait is in the Uffizi. On March 17th the Via Crucis will be inaugurated at the Pieve di Santo Stefano. (Translated by Google) Exceptional! A small pearl hidden from most people because it is outside the traditional tourist routes. Set in a very beautiful and well-kept historic villa at times with a decadent charm that really resonates with me. The museum is made up of more than one hundred works by the artist, organized according to his will into "thematic" areas based on the materials used. We move from pen drawings to paintings to porcelain to sculpture, in short, a multifaceted artist who evidently needs to vent his creativity in every possible way. The jewel in the crown is the marbles at the end of the museum tour, exceptional for their evocativeness and sculptural quality. Very passionate themes and shows that cannot leave one indifferent. I forgot to mention that the museum is totally FREE but it is only open two days a week so check the times carefully if you decide to visit. (Original) Eccezionale!

(Translated by Google) In the municipality of Campi Bisenzio, inside a splendid eighteenth-century residence, the Villa Rucellai, the Antonio Manzi Museum awaits you. An evocative journey into beauty and technique that starts from the didactic exhibition of the fresco, arriving at the ceramics of great design, unique in the world, developed with re-elaborations of subjects dear to the painting of Antonio Manzi and in the same style that re-elaborates surrealism and neosibolism grafted into the horror vacui, which bears the strength of its sign and the hypnotic beauty of the color, sinuously wrapped in the textures of noble pigments that capture the light. The journey continues with the large and very particular engravings, unique in terms of technique and materials. The final room contains Manzia's sculpture, defined by critics as the point of highest synthesis of his art making; from the Egyptianizing cat, to the tondo, to the Donatello-style squash, finely crafted in statuary white marble in which classical subjects are reproduced, as well as love and sadness where the presence of the phytomorph almost destroys the border between the human and vegetal worlds, visions of a primordial purity sinking its roots in ancient Renaissance morphemes. Works of sinuosity and persuasiveness that possess the strength of sculptural poetry. The highly personal and successful technical expertise and re-elaboration of surreal and neo-symbolic stylistic layers absorbs the attention of the viewer, captured by the details, the originality, the brilliance of the light of this artistic universe from which infinite love shines through that the great Maestro Antonio Manzi has always poured into his art. A man of incomparable human and artistic depth who wanted to weave ancient links with the modern, leaving the historical and indelible trace of his presence in his territory, thus wanting to consecrate it, as Dante did with Florence, to immortality in art. An Artist with a capital A announced by his large and solemn sculptures that face the entrance to the Museum and of which others are scattered in the squares of Campi Bisenzio, Lastra a Signa, in Chianti, in a beautiful farmhouse called "La casa di Rodo" , to end in the solemnity of the magical Florence at the Boboli Gardens, an ideal scenario where the passage of time is measured with the statuary beauty in its transition to the deepest Martian existential dimension. Manzi's painting, researched and exhibited at the Uffizi through the Self-portrait, an enigmatic and unforgettable work, a metaphor of his troubled existence, requested by the director Eike Smith for its extensive and original artistic depth, will leave that unmistakable mark, born to master, with a variety of multifaceted techniques, our artistic century. Basilica di San Lorenzo, a landmark Renaissance church in Florence, is known as the burial place of the Medici family. The church features an unfinished facade designed by Michelangelo and a library he also designed. It was originally built in the 4th century and later transformed into a magnificent Renaissance building by Filippo Brunelleschi from 1377 to 1446. Inside, visitors can admire Brunelleschi's Sagrestia Vecchia with sculptural decoration by Donatello.
A very beautiful basilica, both the main building and the crypt which hosts a small museum of sorts. Some stunning murals and sculptures. Not too crowded.

Pretty disappointing I thought. For 9 euros I was expecting something pretty spectacular but it is nothing exceptional. I thought the courtyard was the best part. The basement isn't a crypt but a museum of altar pieces and robes. There is a toilet in the bookstore (off the courtyard) that costs 1 euro but it only takes 1 and 2 euro coins. Just duck under the turnstile to get in. Trivia - The front of the building looks odd since it is the back wall to a marble facade that was never added.

We didn’t go inside the Basilica di San Lorenzo, but the outdoor area was lovely. You can sit on the stairs and enjoy the atmosphere while different street singers and musicians perform for tourists. It’s a lively and relaxing spot to take a short break and soak up the Florence vibe!
Najmeh S — Google review
The Basilica di San Lorenzo (Basilica of St. Lawrence) is one of the largest churches of Florence, Italy, situated at the centre of the main market district of the city, and it is the burial place of all the principal members of the Medici family from Cosimo il Vecchio to Cosimo III. It is one of several churches that claim to be the oldest in Florence, having been consecrated in 393 AD,[1] at which time it stood outside the city walls. For three hundred years it was the city's cathedral, before the official seat of the bishop was transferred to Santa Reparata. San Lorenzo was the parish church of the Medici family. In 1419, Giovanni di Bicci de' Medici offered to finance a new church to replace an eleventh-century Romanesque rebuilding. Filippo Brunelleschi, the leading Renaissance architect of the first half of the fifteenth century, was commissioned to design it, but the building, with alterations, was not completed until after his death. The church is part of a larger monastic complex that contains other important architectural and artistic works: the Old Sacristy (Sagresta Vecchia) by Brunelleschi and having interior decoration and sculpture by Donatello; the Laurentian Library by Michelangelo; the Medici Chapels, two structures that include the New Sacristy (Sagrestia Nuova) based on Michelangelo's designs; and the larger Cappella dei Principi ("Chapel of the Princes") being a collaboration between the family and architects.

📍 Basilica di San Lorenzo – Florence, Italy 🇮🇹 We didn’t go inside, but the square outside is lively and full of atmosphere 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️. People stroll through, browse the market stalls 🛍️, and enjoy cafés ☕ around the basilica. The unfinished façade looks plain compared to other Florentine churches, but it’s still an interesting landmark to see while walking the area. A vibrant spot for soaking in local life, even without entering. 🙌

(Translated by Google) We were informed that we absolutely had to use the backpack locker to visit the museum AFTER purchasing the tickets (small backpacks, certainly not school bags). We offered to keep them in the front so as not to risk damaging the works (we're certainly not children and know how to manage an art exhibition visit), but we were rudely refused, insisting that we use the lockers. Fortunately for us, too, the card refused the transaction to complete the ticket purchase, an opportunity that the staff seized upon to be even more rude and impolite. I note now that the official website and Facebook page don't require backpacks as a "visit rule," because had we known this in advance, we would have prepared differently (and if we had been informed beforehand, we would have considered it accordingly). I don't think this was professional or honest behavior. If you're considering a visit, I recommend keeping in mind that the lockers they offer for storing personal belongings aren't checked. Also note that I've been there before and had a backpack, and on that occasion I wasn't even asked to carry it in front. Is this a rule applied depending on who's selling the tickets and/or how they feel? Very, very unfair. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- We were ordered to leave our backpack in their (probably unsupervised) cabinet only after purchasing the tickets. We had pretty small bags, too. Anyway, we offered to just hold our backpacks in front of us (as is sufficient in other museums), but our request was rudely refused. We've been lucky our credit card refused the transaction a few seconds later, an event used by the museum staff to become even more rude. Such rules are not specified on their museum website and Facebook page, so we had no way of knowing that beforehand. Regardless, that was absolutely unprofessional. If you are considering to visit the place I recommend you to take into consideration these unwritten rules. On a final note, I distinctly remember visiting the musuem before without any similar rule being enforced. Molto molto scorretto. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have been ordered to leave our backpack in their (probably unsupervised) cabinet only after purchasing the tickets. (Translated by Google) Perhaps the only place in Prato worth a visit. I was here on March 8, 2025, and the museum is truly beautiful and well-maintained. When I visited, I was the only one there, and I had the entire museum to myself. Next to many of the works, there was a QR code that, when scanned, opened a very interesting audio description. The museum appears to have been recently renovated, as it has new, modern equipment. The only things I didn't appreciate were that the panoramic terrace and the façade were under restoration, so I wasn't allowed to enjoy the view from there, and the exorbitant price of the ticket. It's absurd to charge such a high price for a museum. It's a shame, though, if you're in Prato, you must visit. For me, it was worth it, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Nestled in the heart of Florence, the Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore is a captivating blend of Romanesque architecture from the 11th century, enhanced by later Gothic elements and stunning frescoes. This small yet ancient church offers a serene atmosphere perfect for prayer, meditation, or simply soaking in its beauty. Visitors have found it to be an oasis of tranquility amidst the bustling city life.
Beautiful church. Definitely a must see. Pope Francis is buried here. Go down to the museum near the bathrooms to see amazing papal items and old roman architecture.

This is one of Florence's oldest churches with a history that dates back to the the 8th century. The building you see today however was originally constructed in the 11th-century while major restorations also took place in the 13th-century giving it both Romanesque and Gothic characteristics that you see today. The exterior is subtle, bleak, fairly representative of Romanesque style churches. The interior includes a central nave with arched vaults. Side aisles feature ceiling frescos and nice artworks. There are a couple of tombs of note as well. All can be leisurely viewed in 10 minutes or so, making Santa Maria Maggiore a nice stop if you enjoy visiting old churches during your travels. You can conveniently pop in while doing the rounds along Via de' Cerretani.
Brad — Google review
The Church of Santa Maria Maggiore is one of the oldest in the city, but its interior, as is often the case in Florence, is a blend of eras, from the Middle Ages to the Baroque. The church's interior features massive stone pillars supporting pointed arches, suggesting a medieval, perhaps Romanesque or Gothic, foundation. The overall appearance is austere, but the longitudinal nave with side aisles creates a sense of spaciousness and height. The austere Gothic forms contrast sharply with the rich decoration of the side chapels. These chapels, rebuilt in the 17th century, are filled with lush Baroque stucco, gold, and painting. The vaults of the arches and chapels are decorated with vibrant Baroque frescoes depicting saints, angels, and scenes from the Bible, surrounded by rich gilded stucco. These paintings create the feeling that heaven opens up overhead. The chapels feature large altarpieces in rich frames, framed by dark columns or marble inlays. Santa Maria Maggiore is a fascinating museum of architectural styles, where the austere beauty of Gothic blends with the drama and splendor of Baroque.

Is a good place to pray, meditate and worship. I went the last day of the year through my visit. And it was peaceful, to pray and workshop you don't need to be in a building. I need to focus my mind and listen. I was glad that it opened early and was serene. May 2024 be the call to serve others which don't look like us and we are called to impact. Blessings

Additionally, there’s a lovely open space perfect for yoga and pilates enthusiasts looking to connect with nature while practicing their routines.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful green area just outside Campi Bisenzio; there are still traces of the flood of '23, but it is rising again. The gravel and the small stones of some paths should be "plumped up" to make running/walking more comfortable and the view more pleasant (the part behind the Patio has been "paved" with shards and chips of tiles and bricks... not exactly the best (now among other things they are preparing for the Campi Beer Festival and there is already a coming and going of trucks and vans for the installation of various rides and kiosks...) Nestled amidst the enchanting Tuscan hills, Chiesa di San Martino alla Palma is a delightful discovery for any wanderer. This charming little church exudes simplicity and warmth, inviting visitors to pause and reflect in its serene atmosphere. The breathtaking views from its location are simply stunning, making the narrow ascent well worth the effort. Inside, you'll find remarkable artwork including a gold-backed panel by the Master of Palma—an esteemed disciple of Giotto—alongside other captivating pieces that showcase exquisite craftsmanship.
I took the tram to the last stop in Scandicci. Got off and looked around and saw the church tower on the hill in the distance. I just started walking, met a lovely older man walking to Rinaldi so I joined him and carried on. Met the priest joined a mass had an amazing meal at a restaurant overlooking the Tuscan hills. Highlight of my trip to Florence.

(Translated by Google) I went to San Martino alla Palma on my day off from work. The place on the hill is very beautiful, unfortunately the church was closed; but so far nothing special, it happens! When I saw the nos. of tel. I called from the Parish Priest to arrange a possible visit on another day or simply for information; not only did I find an unsympathetic person but a total refusal to visit the church with the suggestion of going to other places in Florence with organized groups. I am an art enthusiast and I don't need to be directed, I know well what I want to see without disrespecting religious worship. I found the phone conversation unpleasant with misplaced morals. The positive note is that I met an elderly person very open to dialogue who invited me to enter a piece of his world. Reflection: where you expect WELCOME I have found a "wall" and where you expect nothing you find humanity. STRANGE right? Fortunately, life always makes up for it. STRANO vero? Fortunatamente la vita compensa sempre.

(Translated by Google) The Church of San Martino alla Palma is an architectural and spiritual jewel located on the hills southwest of Florence, in the municipality of Scandicci. Although not among the most famous tourist destinations in Tuscany, this religious building offers an authentic and evocative experience, immersed in the silence and beauty of the Tuscan hilly landscape. The church has very ancient origins: it is documented since the 12th century, although the current building features architectural elements from different eras, the result of subsequent modifications and restorations. The Romanesque layout is still visible in the simplicity and balance of the shapes, in the gabled façade in alberese stone and in the characteristic single-lancet windows. Inside, the church has a single nave, with a sober and intimate atmosphere, which encourages meditation and prayer. Among the elements of greatest interest are the bell gable, typical of rural Tuscan churches, and some restored medieval frescoes, which decorate the internal walls and testify to the religious and cultural importance of this place over the centuries. The church also houses some works of sacred art, including a wooden crucifix and a Madonna and Child, which, although of modest workmanship, emanate a strong spirituality. From a landscape point of view, the position of the church is enchanting: overlooking the Florentine hills, with an open view of the surrounding countryside, it is an ideal place for those seeking peace, silence and authentic contact with history and nature. The area is also an excellent starting point for excursions and walks, thanks to the numerous paths that pass through woods, olive groves and small villages. The Church of San Martino alla Palma represents a perfect example of rural Tuscan religious architecture, far from the most crowded tourist circuits but full of charm and history. It is recommended for those who love to explore lesser-known but significant places, and for those who want to experience a moment of meditation in a suggestive setting. In conclusion, visiting San Martino alla Palma means taking a journey through time, between art, spirituality and nature, to discover.

When I visited, the church was closed, so I couldn't see inside. Teatro Dante Carlo Monni is a vibrant cultural hub located in Campi Bisenzio, offering a variety of performances and activities that cater to all ages, including children. While the theater boasts modern design and attention to detail, some visitors have noted that the seating can be uncomfortable for taller individuals. The bar serves an enticing selection of sweet and savory snacks, although prices may be on the higher side. Additionally, there are suggestions for improving accessibility for disabled patrons and enhancing audience etiquette during shows.

(Translated by Google) It's a beautiful theater with lots of activities for kids too. They should increase the proposal, definitely reduce the excessive prices for some shows and guarantee better parking and disabled spaces. Certainly a note of this theater and many is that the theater staff does not sufficiently discipline the people who have not yet understood that you don't come to the theater with the ball, to blow, to speak loudly... those who come would like to enjoy the show and nothing else. Nestled within the historic Strozzi Fortress, the small yet captivating museum dedicated to Gonfienti offers a fascinating glimpse into local Etruscan history. Recent archaeological excavations have unearthed remarkable ceramics and reconstructed buildings that highlight this ancient settlement's significance. The museum’s layout is thoughtfully designed, making it easy for visitors unfamiliar with the area to appreciate its topographical context. Although the visit may be brief due to its size, it's certainly worthwhile.

(Translated by Google) The new small archaeological museum of Rocca Strozzi in Campi has been collecting since last year the most important finds that emerged from the excavation campaigns of the settlement of Gonfienti, born at the confluence between the Marina and the Bisenzio and continuously inhabited for many centuries, so much so that it has also been reported on the Tabula Peutingeriana - the "road map of the Roman Empire" - with the name "Mansio ad Solaria". A mansio was a rest station along a Roman road, managed by the central government and made available to dignitaries, officials, or those traveling for reasons of state. The mansiones were arranged within a day's journey of each other, so that travelers could rest and refresh themselves during their journey. They were equipped with accommodation, stables, warehouses and toilets. The focal point of the museum is the Etruscan room, equipped with an interesting setting that reconstructs a portion of the roof of a large residential building from the archaic Etruscan age (6th and 5th century BC), with original tiles and characteristic ceramic antefixes, placed cover a series of display cases that house the finds. Among the most significant pieces are a cup attributed to the Greek artist Douris, numerous vases and various objects in bucchero, including some very elaborate pots. Douris was an Ancient Greek potter active in Athens between 500 and 460 BC. He was one of the most important cup painters of the early classical period, known for his fine drawing and crisp, clear lines. He worked in both black-figure and red-figure techniques, and decorated his vases with a wide range of themes, including myths, symposium scenes, and scenes of everyday life. Overall, the museum seemed really interesting to me: at this point I hope for a restoration of the rest of the fortress too, a valid example of a castle-farm on the plain between Prato and Florence.

The location on the ground floor is very suggestive and decidedly very well looked after, both in terms of layout and for the presence of very original finds. Very modest entry price at €4. Short guide available at a reasonable price of €5. What's wrong is the unconscionable price of scientific publications. €60 for each volume published. One dedicated to Etruscan and Roman excavations and one to the material. Offer for the two volumes €100. Definitely too high. Amex cards are not accepted at the entrance which is not acceptable for a state site.
