Outdoor Activities
Poetto, also known as Poettu in Sardinian, is a vibrant beach area that stretches for about 8 kilometers from the characteristic rock formation Sella del Diavolo to Quartu Sant'Elena. This popular destination offers a variety of activities such as swimming, sunbathing, beach volleyball, and cycling along the beautiful promenade. Visitors can enjoy beach services, ice cream parlors, restaurants, and lively nightlife throughout the year.
I had a wonderful swim here in the clear water. The beach is 8 km long and is divided into free sections (my choice) and parts where you pay to enter and for sun-loungers, beach umbrellas, etc. I took the bus from the centre, buses PF & PQ get you there in 20 minutes for €1.30 (or €3.30 day ticket).

Beautiful scene, blue sea coast!😍It was lovely beach coast, nice walk. Can be windy, the water is not warm at all, bit fir me was nice from Ireland :)) Can hire 2sunbeds+umbrella for 24euro. Nice snacks, bats and beers on the beach all along. Friendly ppl. Revommend to visit.

Poetto is a 8km long beach with easy access by public transport, very nice and clean, calm water, amazing for kids, with restaurants along the beach. I found a small stretch of beach with family atmosphere. It's a great opportunity to enjoy a beach day if you are in Cagliari.

Located in the Castello neighborhood of Cagliari, the Cittadella dei Musei is a museum association offering a variety of permanent exhibitions. The Archeological Museum features the impressive Giants of Mont'e Prama, while the National Art Gallery showcases paintings by Sardinian artists from the 16th to 20th centuries and artworks from schools in Genoa, Naples, and Rome.
Wonderful place, even just to see the panorama!

The only part open is the oriental exhibition which mostly showcases weapons. Only 3eur. The views are blocked off because of falling masonry (modern stuff not the ancient stone!). Any other exhibitions are not open, under extensive renovations.

Bastione di Saint Remy is a significant structure featuring a limestone arch, pillars, terrace, and promenade for cultural events. It is located in the districts of Marina, Stampace, and Villanova. Visitors can explore various squares and outdoor areas for traditional celebrations. One can start their Cagliari tour by ascending the marble steps of Passeggiata Coperta or taking the free elevator from Piazza della Costituzione to reach Bastione San Remy.
Amazing scenery, views and a wonderful walk around here. Not too far from the port. Some fantastic history and if you have the buggy tour you can find out more as you go past which we did. Such a lovely area, we really enjoyed this start to our Italian holiday.
Beereed — Google review
This was a cool stop I walked to from the cruise port, it was uphill the entire time but the views were pretty cool. There are many stairs to get to the top, and once you get there there are several benches and some trees. Unfortunately none of the benches had shade.
Devon K — Google review
One more bastion. Built in the late 19th century on the ancient city walls. Connects the lower city to the historic Castello district. From the top, enjoy stunning panoramic views over the city, port, and sea. A perfect spot to relax and take photos.
Mykola K — Google review
It's a beautiful old structure with wonderful panoramic views of the city once you climb the elegant staircase. Just be warned it can be swarming with tourists taking Insta photos and TikTok videos which can detract from the experience. Don't forget to open your eyes and drink it all in ❤️

Nice view, you can buy umbrellas or hats from vendors there. I recommend not going in sunny weather and during the lunch hours as it is very hot.
Google review
The view is astonishing. It is very close to the city center with good restaurants and coffee houses. Free access to the top – a must-visit if you are already in Cagliari.

We went for the evening walk around this place and we quite liked it. There was life music, not that many people. Beautiful place.

Bastione di Saint Remy is a beautiful and historic landmark offering stunning views over Cagliari. It’s a great spot for photos, relaxing, and soaking in the local atmosphere. The architecture and terrace are impressive, especially at sunset. However, accessibility can be an issue—there’s only one elevator, which often means long waits. If you’re traveling with kids or strollers, be prepared for some inconvenience, especially during busy times. Still, it’s worth the visit.

Hiking area
The Parco Naturale Molentargius Saline is a vast urban wetland featuring both fresh and saltwater ponds, offering a diverse array of bird species and scenic paths for visitors to explore. Spanning over 1,600 hectares, this park boasts delicate yet efficient ecosystems that support protected plant and animal species, including the iconic pink flamingos. It's highly recommended for nature enthusiasts seeking an immersive experience within its unique environment.
The park is huge, we took advantage of the tour, for which we paid 25 euros. It turned out that we were lucky and we were the only people for that hour, so we had a private tour. The guide was great, he told very interesting stories. We had access to parts that are closed to regular visitors, we were given binoculars and we could admire the flamingos through a telescope. There were thousands of them and the view of them flying above us was amazing. It is definitely worth spending this money.
Martyna R — Google review
We visited a park known for its flamingos. Be aware that there's absolutely no shade, and the walk under the sun can be quite long. You can also do the route by bike, depending on your preference. We took the shorter trail and it still took us almost two hours. I highly recommend bringing plenty of water and a hat, as there are no refreshment options along the way. The flamingos can only be seen from a distance. If we had been better prepared for the sun, it would have been a beautiful walk (or ride) along the river or canal and past salt basins. But I guess I was expecting a bit more from the experience.
Denisa B — Google review
We rented 2 push bikes for an independent tour. No guides. You can rent them for 2 hours for a nominal fee. It's free to walk. Bus tours are available. Takes you to some restricted areas. Friendly staff and helpful. Best to take water and a hat. It was warm and exposed but breezy. The office has a little coffee shop and toilet facilites. Beautiful and quite scenic. Very few Flamingos were left in the colony as they have started their migratory journey. We were lucky to have spotted a few Flamingos across the parking lot before entering the park. They were mostly white with a little toycb of flamingo 🦩 pink on their wings. We visited end of Aug. I believe best would be to go during summer. It was still worth the visit. We would go again as we enjoyed the bike ride along the scenic sea salt harvesting ponds and so many other birds and turtles etc.
The G — Google review
We were looking forward to seeing flamingos. We could see flocks on our way from the airport and expected to see many more and from smaller distance. We were seated on a small electric van with 10 seats. Each participant was given a binocular and a large one was carried and installed by our guide. Unfortunately, her English was very poor. That was surely a pity because she alternated Italian and English explanations and she passionately said so much in Italian (we couldn't understand) and very little in English. Seeing birds in binoculars was exciting. I recommend buying tickets online as on the first occasion we got here there were no places left and we had zo leave ... Still I am not sure if it was worth 25 euros/person. We drove mostly in publicly accessible places. Probably I would recommend renting bikes and binoculars.
Richard S — Google review
Flamingos!!:-)) Very kind staff, great English, you can visit for free and see flamingos, you can also rent a bike for 10€/2hours. There was also a bus / guided option i think. I did the free visit by foot which was easily walkable. And after five minutes I already saw many flamingos 🦩 🥰 great experience! Remember to bring a hat and a bottle of water if you go during the hotter season. Inside the info point there’s also a cafe with very friendly staff, coffee, coke etc and even pistachio croissants!🥐 :-) 100% recommend if you want to see flamingos in their Cagliari habitat of salinas :-)
M. B — Google review
It is really spacious area. People ride on the bikes, walk, children play football etc. I used a free car park nearby. Also there is possible to watch the flamingos 🦩 and feed donkeys 🫏
Waldek — Google review
Beautiful park, very clean and well maintained. Can be a little confusing to navigate within the park as there are few signs. Clean bathrooms and a cafe at the visitors center.
Jill B — Google review
This park is the biggest disappointment ever! Don't go there, it is waste of time and energy. Map at the entrance is very missleading. Many routes are closed and from view points you have view to bushes... There is only one point from which flamingos are visible but there are very far away. Photos here on google seem like you are going to be next to flamingo, but there were simply done with good photocamera...

Scenic spot
Public beach
Sella del Diavolo, also known as the 'Saddle of the Devil,' is a saddle-shaped promontory in Cagliari, Sardinia. The area is characterized by a series of hills formed by calcareous sediments left by the sea's repeated intrusion. The modern city has developed between these hills and the sea to the south and southeast.
Nice hike for most everyone (once you arrive). Public transport will take you about 2 miles away you would have to walk the rest or via other transportation. For the adventurous folk you can climb down the back side.
J W — Google review
Hiking Sella del Diavolo this summer was an unforgettable experience. From the start, the salty sea breeze and the scent of wild herbs set the mood for adventure. The trail, though a bit challenging under the sun, was worth every step. As I climbed higher, the views became more breathtaking—endless turquoise waters, boats dotting the coast, and Cagliari in the distance. Reaching the top felt like standing on the edge of a dream. After the hike, I cooled off in the crystal-clear, warm sea below, a perfect reward. Floating there, gazing up at the cliffs, I felt pure happiness. Sella del Diavolo is a must-visit—a place where nature’s beauty leaves you speechless. If you're in Sardinia, don’t miss it!
Alessio M — Google review
Nice and not so difficult walk but amazing view point
Gasper M — Google review
Even ideal for an late afternoon run A nice promenade to the nearby sleeping lady mountain range. There is no official path to reach the peak, as the military base blocks the entire northern side. But following locals late afternoon, there are few wild path to lead you to the Sela del Diavolo, one of the ruins on this hill range. Searching for a path to reach to the peak, which seem to be the “official” hiking route, turned out to be non-existent. Ventured along the miliary base where I found a wild narrow path thru the forest to reach the top stone plateau. Fabulous view, 360 degrees … with some left over Roman Ruins and the famous nuraghe buildings, main type of ancient megalithic accommodation / towers dating back to the Nuragic Age between 1900 to 730 BC. Don’t miss to crowl thru some spikey cactuses to reach the chalk-cave, called Sella del Diavolo. There are approximately 7,000 nuraghes left in Sardinia today. Turning time back 4,000 years ago amongst such a scenery is truly a unique experience. The official path, flatter and easier-to-walk path, is leading to the Calamosca Beach. It was a Sunday, so the Disco tunes and party was on early afternoon till late night. Long queues, traffic jam and many happy party-lovers. Walking back to the Poetto beach took like 4 – 5 km … definitely a detour, but no other choice, unless driving by motorcycle or car.
Travel L — Google review
Absolutely amazing place... just 20 minutes easy climbing from Calamosca side. Beautiful view, fresh air and feeling of history... 100% to visit! P.s. from the top i cant see the tiburones...
Philipp N — Google review
Amazing views on this 4.1km loop hike, worth the effort. Some moderately challenging sections on the full loop, but the zig zag trail section is more straight forward. Many exposed sections of high cliff along loop trail at eastern side so caution is required.
Ciaran O — Google review
Incredible view! You must visit this place if you are in Cagliari! On sundays there is a bus (number 5/11) comes here very frequent from Cagliari center. The hike is medium level about 30-40min to reach the top. It totaly worths!
Cansel K — Google review
We went there early morning to have a walk and there were not so many people. It is a peaceful and relaxing place where you can spend some time away from the city but not too far away. Reaching the top was the best part where you get a panoramic view of Poetto lungo mare and some part of Cagliari, part of the Cala Mosca on the right. The climb was not too steep and there are some tables and a covered structure (like a concrete cottage) where you can have a picnic located on the top.

Nestled in the heart of Cagliari, the Basilica di San Saturnino is a remarkable testament to early Christian architecture, dating back to the 5th century. This stunning church features an impressive domed roof and apse that tower majestically above its surroundings. Dedicated to Saint Saturninus, the city's patron saint who met his martyrdom during Diocletian's reign, this basilica offers visitors a glimpse into the rich history of Christianity in Sardinia.

It is very simple, but it has a certain charm and I loved the contrast against the overly decorated, gold-plated churches you normally see in Italy. It felt very spiritual, is fascinating in its ancient history and has a beautifully minimalist interior.

The Basilica of San Saturnino dates back to the 6th century AD, but according to the experts it probably still existed in the 5th century. Saturnino would have been beheaded in 304 because he didn't deny his Christian faith. San Saturnino is also the patron Saint of Cagliari.

Also good parking for motor bikes and vans:) Beautiful, chrystal clear water & everybody tries to keep it clean. Hotel ideally located because 200 meters from the beach, with direct access. Then 6 kilometers from the city, Sciacca, with bus stop in front of the hotel. Panoramic view of the exceptional sea. All staff (reception-bar-animators and cleaning agents) very friendly and attentive to the customer. Bilingual staff in French! (important positive point) Varied food so everyone finds his account in general. However I recommend 3 major changes to the management of this hotel: - The coffee at the bar, is not worthy of Italy, in my opinion it is unacceptable to drink this kind of coffee in Sicily! The coffee is good only at the pool !!! Change your machine as fast as possible! - Prohibit locals from squatting beach chairs at the beach as they are normally reserved for hotel guests. It is unacceptable not to find a place to settle on the beach. - Involve a specialized company to find and destroy the nest of wasps and hornets along the terrace, so that customers can take their meals serenely. – Make an effort on the quality of the wine! I Thank all the staff for their kindness and professionalism. Personale bilingue in francese!

Spiaggia di Is Mortorius is a unique destination located near Capitana, featuring the ruins of an old fishermen village and the former military battery Carlo Faldi, which served as an anti-naval outpost. The beach is easily accessible via county road 17 towards Cagliari and offers free parking. While the beach consists of stones rather than sand, its crystal-clear waters make it ideal for snorkeling.
The best: empty beach. Not a lot of tourists here. Bring your acqua shoes because it's rocky. This beach is reachable by public transport without even have to walk.

Quite a rocky beach but very clear water
Aaron C — Google review
This beach is located directly on a road. You don't have to pay anything for the parking spaces and it is only a few metres to the beach. The beach is made of stones, not sand. Although we were there in the high season and it was in the middle of the afternoon, there were very few people there. The water is crystal clear. Because the water is so clear, one can also see very well underwater, for example for snorkeling. The seabed is mostly covered with stones and not sand. Apart from these stones there is unfortunately very little to see underwater. A few fish cavort between the stones, but you can't see much beyond these stones. All in all a quiet and cosy beach with clear water. Very good to relax in peace. For snorkeling rather uninteresting. To recommend.

The Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta e Santa Cecilia is a stunning 13th-century cathedral located in Cagliari, Sardinia. Originally built as a church dedicated to Santa Cecilia, it was later elevated to the rank of cathedral during the Aragonese domination. The cathedral boasts a graceful Gothic exterior and a lavish interior adorned with baroque decor. Inside, visitors can explore the vast marble pulpit and crypt containing royal tombs.
The Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta e Santa Cecilia is truly a hidden gem and an architectural marvel that left me absolutely amazed. From the moment you step inside, you are transported into a world of spiritual tranquility and artistic beauty. The cathedral’s exterior, with its classic Romanesque style, immediately captures your attention, but it’s the interior that truly takes your breath away. The play of light through the stained glass windows creates a serene and almost mystical atmosphere. Every corner is rich with detail—elaborate frescoes, intricate carvings, and a sense of sacred history that seems to whisper through the stone walls. The combination of devotion and artistry is overwhelming in the best possible way. You can sense the centuries of faith and community that have built and sustained this sacred place. The altar, dedicated to both the Virgin Mary and Saint Cecilia, is particularly moving. Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of music, adds a poetic touch to the ambiance—you almost expect to hear distant organ music resonating through the air. Whether you’re religious or not, this cathedral offers a powerful experience. It’s not just a place of worship, but a testament to human creativity and devotion. I highly recommend a visit—it’s nothing short of extraordinary.

The outside doesn’t look like much but the inside is breathtaking. It is big, highly decorated and the crypt is nice. The marble statues and pillars are incredibly beautiful. You can enter for free and give a small price for the crypt.
Thibaut — Google review
Beautiful baroque church. Please be mindful of your attire when you enter. There is a crypt under the altar that you can visit- entrance is on the left side and exit on the right. There is a shop by the left side that sells some rosaries and other stuff, very affordable and highly recommend. We parked infront of the church, just after the steps, only park if you are a small car (smart, fiat panda, hyundai i10). Otherwise, there are designated parking area or you risk blocking the road.

If you’re in Cagliari, you shouldn’t miss the Cathedral. It’s not only a religious and historical landmark, but also a fascinating mix of architectural styles, scenic views, an atmospheric crypt, and a sense of deep history. Especially recommended for those who appreciate architecture, art, and strolling through charming old streets.

The Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta e Santa Cecilia on Piazza Palazzo in Cagliari (Sardinia), Italy, was originally built in the Pisan Romanesque style in the 13th century. Baroque alterations from the 18th century were replaced in the 1930s. The ornate 17th century mausoleum of Martin the Younger of Sicily (1374-1409) is in the transept. Marble lions flank the stairway into the presbytery. The lions were originally part of a 12th century pulpit by Master Guglielmo of Pisa.

The Museo archeologico nazionale, located within the Citadel in Cagliari, Sardinia, is a significant museum complex that offers a comprehensive exploration of the island's ancient history. The museum houses an extensive collection of archaeological exhibits, including Punic jewelry, ceramics, bronzes, and Byzantine coins. It provides a complete overview of Sardinia's history from the prehistoric era to the Roman and medieval ages.
Free on the first Sunday of every month, but would be well worth the cost of entry. It teaches the 5000+ year history of Sardinia and Cagliari very effectively. English and Italian displays throughout. They have recreated some artifacts for people to hold. They have also restored some artifacts using plain materials and glass/plastic to demonstrate where the fragments would be on a complete item, I think that is a very effective way of displaying these items and more museums should follow this approach.
Asa-Jai F — Google review
A must-visit for anyone interested in ancient history. The museum offers a well-curated journey through prehistoric to Roman times. The highlight is the impressive collection of Nuragic bronze statuettes. Also worth seeing are the Neolithic artifacts, Punic and Roman finds. It is not so big. You will need a little bit more than one and a half hours. Recommend to visit.
Mykola K — Google review
It's a well-done museum, not as big as some of the larger cities, but very comprehensive, covering prehistory up until the Middle ages. The ramps and staircases can be a little bit confusing as you start at the most ancient and hopefully end up at the most recent. Currently it is €10.
Norm Y — Google review
A lot of history in this museum, must see if you visit Cagliari. 10 eur is the price but worth the money.

Must visit for anyone in Sardinia, to go beyond just the beaches and the food and learn a lot about the history of the island and its people. Not too big, but quite comprehensive museum with some amazing, out of this world monuments from the Nuragic period.

I visited with my family the archeological site of Nora with a guided tour, so beautiful and interesting, and then we found here the ancient objects our guide was telling us about. Also, we went to the archeological site of Tharros for a lyrical concert, and again, we found here the Giants of Tharros. Highly recommended! And the neighborhood is beautiful, too! With nice restaurants and cafes nearby.
Patrizia B — Google review
Nice museum if you're interested in the history of Sardinia and the Romans. We were there with our children (ages 7 and 9), but that was not appreciated by a very rude female staff member. It was clear that this rude woman did not tolerate children. A real shame, because children are exactly the ones you can teach something about history — but unfortunately, this woman didn’t think so and made that clear by staring at us with wide eyes and constantly following us around. So, if you're going with your children, be warned. If you're not with children, then it's definitely recommended.
Elias K — Google review
’m not really a museum person. Still, on a sunny midday, it’s not a bad idea to slip into a pleasant one – cool air, quiet halls, and treasures of the past: ancient finds, statuettes, sculptures. This museum unfolds across several floors with hidden corners and passages and of course stairs (there are in Cagliari everywhere), so you definitely won’t get bored. And somewhere between the air conditioning and the timeless artifacts, it suddenly becomes clear why Sardinia is such a unique place you won’t find anywhere else in the world.”

The origins of this church date back to 1324 in order to offer spiritual assistance to soldiers engaged in the siege of the city. In the historic Castello quarter of Cagliari, Italy stands the impressive Torre dell'Elefante, a 14th-century limestone tower adorned with a sculpted elephant. Closed for renovation works for some time, it has now reopened to the public. Built as part of the city's medieval defenses by the Pisans, it offers visitors memorable views over the port and sea. The tower is an important piece of medieval engineering and provides a glimpse into Cagliari's rich history.
This is a huge, impressive tower that incredibly was built in 1307. It would give you incredible views over Cagliari ... if it wasn't closed for renovation work (July 2025). Still good to look at from outside though.

The Torre dell'Elefante (1307) stands on the ramparts of Cagliari (Sardinia), Italy. The tower was built during a period of Pisan domination to defend against the threat of an Aragonese invasion. The tower defended the western entrance to the Quartiere Castello of medieval Cagliari. A retractable draw gate controlled access to the medieval city from the lower town. The sculpture of an elephant to the left of the gate gave the tower its name.

Lo Scoglio is a renowned restaurant in Cagliari, opened in 1958 and still run by the Manconi family. It offers a romantic dining experience with fresh seafood and stunning sunset views from its terrace directly on the water. The staff is known for accommodating guests' wishes, and the menu features high-quality dishes with a wide range of prices. While some find it difficult to locate, the ambiance and professional service make it worth the visit.
Restaurant a bit difficult to find, still experience is worth. Nice ambiance with terrace almost on the sea. Servers speak very well English and commented the menu and dishes in a professional manner. Food of high quality and nice wine list (from local to international) with a wide range of prices to satisfy all type of customers.
Francesco C — Google review
It took me a little while to write up this review after our recent trip in Cagliari in mid June! The restaurant was recommended by our hotel concierge as well as people we know from Sardinia. The overall experience was a mixed feeling to be honest! Perhaps this was the hot spot to be or perhaps one of the best restaurants to be in Cagliari back in the days with aproven pictures of celebrities and well known people perhaps. It took a huge amount of time between starter and first course. The octopus dish was so chewy which we left behind. The highlight was the well known lobster spaghetti 🍝 which we waited for a while but worth the wait. We ate most of the pasta and didn't bother to touch the lobster at all. In the end, we just couldn't wait to get out of this restaurant.... The view was average and service was okey, we have had better food in Cagliari and this restaurant was ait of hype in my opinion. Taxi was ordered upon request but we were sharing the same taxi with another Italian couple back in town. That was a bit of a fast& furious ride like the one in the movie I supposed which I'm certain the local Italian couple agreed with us.
Carol — Google review
The little manager got up from the other side of the restaurant to tell the waiter not to serve me because they were sold out. I watched 10 more people enter. More are still entering. Here is the fresh fish. Blatant discrimination. I feel for the people that work for him. I returned again to let him know I was observing him bring in more customers and he said he was going to call the cops. (More little man behavior) and now I’m here waiting. Not a typical Sardinian person, at all!

Good food, great service, amazing views. We arrived as soon as I opened and caught the sunset. We had the linguine lobster (which seems to be on the menu since 1960) and the seafood risotto, both amazing. We spent two evenings here with dinner and cocktail. Food is some what decent for Sardinian standards. You get different service staff during the dinner. Nice atmosphere inside the restaurant as well as outside, in addition they have live music and decent cocktails for a good price.Dessert is not their strong side. This is the place if you want a nice dinner and entertainment in pohetto beach.

I haven't had such bad food and service at a place for a long time. This place is an insult to a place like Sardunya. The fish came raw, the hamburger came without bread, and when we told them they said this is Italy and that's how it is here, then you should have told us from the beginning.

We went here for drinks one day after a walk down the beach. Great atmosphere. They serve snacks with drinks. We then went back for dinner(they found us a table even though it was busy, they explained they needed the table back at 20:30(which was fine with us as after a delicious dinner of seabass and prawns we had went to the bar) Service was good. Helpful staff. We then went back on our last night as we wanted an early dinner. They also have a pizzeria so we were able to remain the bar area and have a few drinks before we ordered pizza. We were able to take our left over pizzas back. They don't start serving pizza's until 19:00 hours. A great atmosphere, with a DJ and live bands.

We really enjoyed our lunch here. The food was delicious, everything was served quickly, and the staff was very welcoming. Even though we arrived right before closing, they kindly let us stay and relax a bit longer. Highly recommended!
Uljana L — Google review
We have had two excellent meals here and much enjoyed the casual and lively atmosphere. We were looked after well by the friendly staff. Our only issue was that we ended up paying a very large amount for fish which was priced by the kilo. This is fine .. but we weren’t told the price before making our choice. This led to great embarrassment and surprise when a large bill arrived!! We then had to consult 3 waiters and ultimately the manager in order to get a modest reduction. This took the edge off a lovely evening. However, we would still recommend going but don’t order unless you know the price!! I hope the staff will have been instructed to be clearer in future when recommending alternative dishes to save embarrassment.

The church is really beautiful inside with a very interesting history. There's a very somber but beautiful energy throughout. The crypt has two main rooms and another smaller one to the side which I believe used to contain human remains. Upstairs behind the main altar there's another room with an early Christian baptism bath. The visit is free, but it's suggested you leave a donation of your choice. (Translated by Google) Legend has it that it was built on the remains of the Chapel of the Convent of the Knights Templar, but the news is not confirmed. What is certain is that we know that the current structure dates back to the 16th century with renovations in the 18th century. The church was managed by a Confraternity that took care of burying the poor, who were buried in the small square in front (used as a cemetery..) and in the crypts. The interior of the church is baroque. With several works of art, among which there is the Crucifix of the Black Jesus (it is called this because it was drowned by a deranged person who tried to burn it...). When visiting the crypts, you will also see a disturbing fresco depicting Death, with the Latin writing, which translated says..."I spare no one". It can be visited freely with an offer, at the times indicated (not always respected, however....). Prepare to be mesmerized by the captivating beauty of Giardini Pubblici, Cagliari's pristine public garden! These well-manicured gardens are a breath of fresh air in the city, and what truly sets them apart is their graffiti-free surroundings – a rare find in urban public spaces. Upon entering the northwest corner of the gardens, you'll be greeted by the Galleria Comunale d'Arte, a small but charming fountain, and a collection of fascinating sculptures. As you wander deeper into the gardens, you'll encounter an array of stunning roses and various other flower species that create a truly enchanting atmosphere. The absolute highlight for me was the awe-inspiring magnolia tree, which is easily one of the largest I've ever seen. Its majestic presence is impossible to miss, and it adds an extra touch of magic to the gardens. The views from Giardini Pubblici are nothing short of spectacular. Overlooking the city, this vantage point offers stunning photo opportunities both day and night. The gardens are open from 6 AM until midnight, allowing you ample time to soak in the breathtaking scenery. For those with a taste for adventure, the southeast corner of the park is home to S'Avanzada Climbing Cagliari. This fantastic facility offers rock climbing walls for enthusiasts, making it the perfect place to challenge yourself and embrace your inner daredevil. Giardini Pubblici is an absolute gem in the heart of Cagliari. Its enchanting gardens, incredible views, and unique attractions make it a must-visit destination for both locals and visitors alike. Don't miss out on this unforgettable experience – you'll be glad you came!

Gardens with centuries-old trees, lots of greenery and lots of flowers. There's access for the disabled. There's a kiosk serving snacks, drinks and beverages, a bathroom suitable for disabled people at the entrance, many benches to stop and enjoy a bit of tranquility and a beautiful view of the city of Cagliari. It's a place suitable for children, the elderly and any age group.

Very beautiful garden, with nice plants such as a couple of giant ficus trees! I recommend it for a walk or to take a break on one of the benches. There are also a lot of cats and you can see their little houses and people that take care of them. At one end there is a climbing wall area, which seems pretty nice!

Nestled in the scenic landscape of southern Sardinia, Camping Pini e Mare is a charming wooded campground that offers a variety of accommodations, including spacious pitches for tents and caravans as well as cozy bungalows equipped with kitchens. This family-friendly site features essential amenities such as a market, bar, laundry facilities, and even a soccer field to keep everyone entertained.
Nice campsite with good clan facilities.friendly staff and a good location. Close to the sea but not a very good beach, narrow and stoney
Dwane D — Google review
My boyfriend and me loved this camping place. Although the beach is very small and not so beautiful, we still felt very comfortable there. The prices are cheap, the toilets clean and the staff was very friendly. One minus point might be the car-noise coming from the main street in front of the place. In the night though, its very silent and all you will hear is the water flowing.
Sabrina K — Google review
Simple and good for tent campers like me. The beach though isn't nice!!! The espresso at the bar costs 80 Cent and is good. Wivi is at the Café available. Haven't seen families so far. The receptionist is helpful for tips and very friendly. Parking is for free (car). Open during siesta time.
Sigrid S — Google review
We spent there 2 days at the end of June 2015. Before we stayed in other camping grounds like in Cala Gonone and Vignola Mare. Compared to these, this was a very basic place for spending the nights in a tent. The price is okay and the staff there is friendly, but the whole look n feel is somehow very oldfashioned. The ground itself is also not very tidy, a lot of things looks like nobody cares about it. Maybe it has to do with the fact that this one is operated by the local community. As there was no much business at this time, the market was equiped just with basic food. So you had to go to other supermarkets around the area to get good stuff. There is also the Capitana beach just 300 m away. But I can't recommend it due to the fact, that the sand area is very tiny and dirty, the water was full of organic tree material and its surrounded by the beach wall. So you better drive 15 - 20 min. to go somewhere else in this area with beautiful beaches. Conclusion: if you want to visit Cagliari, want to save money for the overnight stay and have not higher expectations, go there. Otherwise you look for a airbnb opportunity or hotel.

After discovering the beautiful north of Sardenga we now are discovering the south starting at the capital city Cagliari. We decided to use a camping close to the city if possible close to a beach as well. We decided to use Camping Pini e Mare located just before the road (panoramic road) turning in to the mountains. The Camping is surrounded by tree's. the camping pitches are clean and big enough for a caravan or camper. The camping is connected with a tunnel to the beach. The staff was very supportive in giving us advice and direction for sightseeing and the location's of the most romantic isolated beaches. The staff also supported us with the pick-up of family from the airport. We stayed longer than planned but because the location we were able to cover big part of south Sardenga. We hope to go back soon and egoy the hospitality again of the lovely team of Camping Pine e Mare.

It is located in the bastion of Santa Croce, between the street of the same name and Camí Nou, with an entrance on Via Santa Croce. It is located overlooking the walls that surround the Castello district. It was born in 1738 as a military barracks and was the main headquarters of the Corps of Dragoons of Sardinia. find the "ghetto", it hosted the Jewish community of Cagliari in the Middle Ages. Today, the Jewish quarter, called Giudaria, is located in the blocks between via Santa Croce, formerly the vicus Iudeorum, and via Stretta. In this area there was also the Synagogue, later supplanted by the Basilica of Santa Croce. A small community of Jews was present in the Castle as early as the 13th century. With the Aragonese conquest, the Jews were expelled from the city, as from all Spanish possessions, in 1492. Very disappointing. When we arrived, they explained that there’s no real evidence or historical proof that this was ever a Hebrew or Jewish cultural center. There are no exhibitions, no documents, no information at all about the Jewish community that once lived here. All you’ll find is a small room with unrelated, low-quality modern art, and they still charge 6 euros for admission. If you’re looking for Jewish history or culture, you won’t find it here. Definitely not worth the visit.

Spiaggia di Calamosca is a small but lovely beach with crystal-clear waters and a rocky shore, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling. It's less windy than the nearby Poetto coast and offers beautiful views of the Cagliari Gulf. While it can get crowded during the summer months, it's mostly frequented by locals, giving it a more authentic feel.
Great little beach, plenty of locals and space. Found myself relaxing on the rocks eating a sandwich watching locals swim out to the rock and back. Few boats going by, great place to unwind. Hour walk or so from the city centre if you fancy the scenic route.

Nice beach but very small and there are stones on the beach too. Only a small part of the beach is sandy. It was crowded when we got there, but we managed to find a spot in between people. Water was OK, some algae on the shore entrance. Warm and clear. From the city centre, it only took us 25 minutes to reach with a connection to Bus 11, bringing us directly to the beach.

Monika Z — Google review
A good small beach to visit to escape Poetto beach. It’s small and can get crowded easily on busy days, but there’s something nice about that as well. The beach is rocky at points and sandy at others, but you can see where in the water it will be more rocky on the east side and sand on the west side. There is a little bar tucked against the cliff where you can get refreshments for reasonable prices and sit in the shade at their tables. The beach is accessible from downtown Cagliari by taking any of the PEX, PQ, PF or any bus that goes that general direction and then either taking the 11 the rest of the way or making the 20 minute easy pleasant walk down to the beach.

you can't see the flamingos without going with a tour/guide, the paths that are publicly accessible simply don't have a good view on where they stay. same for the access to the observation tower. it makes sense but it should have been clear, the only place where this was wrote was on the gate at the access of the inner paths (that was locked), so when you already entered the area.

Buoncammino, also known as the Anfiteatro Romano, is a remarkable amphitheater that dates back to the 2nd century AD, showcasing the historical significance of this region during Roman times. Visitors can admire its grandeur from a raised walkway, although access to the seating area and underground passages is currently restricted. It's important to note that this site may pose challenges for those with mobility impairments.

Swimming & fishing in bright, clear water, plus hillside paths through Mediterranean woodlands.
I wish I can give this sandy beach more than a 5. Very beautiful view from above, easy to reach by bus just 5 minute walk from bus stop. Can access it either by a short easy walk through the path that is next to car parking area or by walking through the woods, shallow and safe you can walk in the water for long distances, pebbles on the shore and rocks on the sides but all sandy in the water, calm water everytime it would be windy in other areas this is the calmest, crystal clear waters, nature is still wild and no buildings on or around the shore, little cafe right on the path to the beach, toilets available.
Sa A — Google review
Very beautiful beach and calm waters, great for kids. There were little fish swimming around as well, the water is so clear. It does get very busy during high season (visited last week of June), and parking is limited along the road mostly so get here before 10am. But like others have said, it’s mostly a rocky beach which might not be for everyone. Bringing beach chairs would help. Be ware as there are no facilities like many beaches in Sardinia, the only washroom/toilet available is affiliated with the beach bar/umbrella and sun lounger rental, and they are charging 2 euros for each toilet use.

We stayed here today (21.8. about 17:00) from the trip from Cagliari. There were only a few parking places free along the road. To the beach is up to 5 minutes. At this time there were enough people but we found the place. Beach is stony, also at the beginning of the see are stones, after cca 3-4 metres is sand. Water shoes are recommended. I did not see almost any fish.

Absolutely stunning. One of the best beaches I’ve ever visited in Europe — top top top top top! Crystal-clear turquoise water, a breathtaking natural setting, and a peaceful vibe all around. The cove shape provides great shelter from the wind — we went on a windy day and barely noticed it! Very easy access, with parking nearby, and right at the entrance there’s a super cute and convenient café/snack bar — perfect for a cold drink, ice cream, or quick bite without leaving the beach. You can also rent umbrellas, which is ideal if you’re planning to spend the whole afternoon there. Highly recommended. If you’re anywhere near Cagliari or Quartu Sant’Elena, this beach is a must!

(Translated by Google) The church of Sant'Elena Imperatrice reminds me of the churches of the city of Rome, due to its beauty it was built in the 18th century, early 1700s but has undergone restoration up to the present day. The style is Baroque, characterized by rich decorations and an imposing facade. The main facade is decorated with statues and reliefs, while the interior has a central nave with barrel vaults decorated with frescoes and stuccoes. The main altar is a masterpiece of sculpture and inlay, richly decorated with fine marble and gilding. Above the altar there is a statue of Saint Helena, patron saint of the city. The tall and slender bell tower, with a domed roof that dominates the surrounding landscape. The interior of the church is decorated with numerous frescoes and works of art. The church has an underground crypt, which in the past was used for burials. It is a fascinating and mysterious place, with an evocative atmosphere. If you are visiting Quartu it is a monument worth seeing, and if you pass by take the opportunity to buy something from the typical Sardinian cuisine in the fresh pasta shop under the arcades. Considering the buttresses supporting the perimeter walls, it is to be believed that it had stability problems right from the phase immediately following its construction. The building, unfortunately, bears the signs of renovation work that paid little attention to its typology and is also affected by additions that distort its external appearance. It was not possible to visit the interior as it was closed. At present this monument is surrounded by a park named after the singer and author Andrea Parodi. In this park there are spaces that can be used for reading and, in any case, relaxation as well as walking paths, green spaces and various children's games. (Translated by Google) The church of S. Maria is included in the town of Quartu Sant'Elena and still maintains the name of Cepola (of uncertain etymology), which derives from the toponym documented in numerous variations in the sources medieval. The title “sancte Marie de Sapullo” was donated in 1089 by the Cagliaritan judge Costantino-Salusio II de Lacon-Gunale to the abbey of St. Victor of Marseille and is cited among the Victorine possessions until 1218. Proto-Romanesque structures of the building denote ways attributable to the workers active in the curatorship of Campidano between the end of the 11th and the beginning of the 12th century. The hall is the result of numerous alterations and renovations, which have altered its original physiognomy. The plant has a single nave with an apse to the north-east; fin from the beginning the roof had to be wooden. Proto-Romanesque walls, in medium-sized limestone ashlars large size, only an external section of the southern side is visible, where a portal opens arched, and the apse basin, with a front arch that is now very low due to the raising of the level pavement compared to the primitive one. The axial, infilled single-lancet window is strongly splayed towards the interior. Along the end of the side runs a frame with a double protruding strip. It can be assumed that at least the façade was crowned with arches, as some are preserved in the garden surrounding the church one with a double flush-cut ring nut; age-old architectural materials are stored in the same space Roman, recovered on the site.

Going towards the old convent you can see the remains of the original Romanesque apse. Entering the small park behind the church you can observe the new rectangular apse from the end of the 200's. The building is consecrated.

(Translated by Google) The church of S. Agata is in the town of Quartu Sant'Elena, a short distance from the parish church. In the municipal territory, the Romanesque churches of S. Maria di Cepola and S. Pietro di Ponte are preserved (attested among the possessions of S. Vittore of Marseille) and the rural one of S. Forzorio, near the pond of the same name. The site would correspond to the ancient Quarto Josso; the local name of the area (su Idanu) suggests its identification with the "domestic" of "Suvaydanu", included among the assets of the Victorine monks in 1338. The current building is the result of numerous renovations, without documentary attestation; as part of the latest restoration, data was recovered which will allow a critical reinterpretation of the construction phases. Large sections of walls on the arched sides date back to the single-nave Romanesque layout, which dates back to the second half of the 12th century; in the first quarter of the 14th century the Gothic interventions, which led to the demolition of the semicircular apse, rebuilt in the form of a chapel quadrangular (to the north-east). The facings are made of medium-sized limestone cantons, cut and installed with accuracy. On the northern side there is a single-lancet window with a double splay with a sloping sill. Along the terminal there are semicircular arches with double rings, perhaps recomposed during the works fourteenth century, which on the other side and in the apse led to both the reuse of the original elements and the interpolation of ogival or trefoil arches. The quadrangular apse has a cross vault divided into four ribs and, like the sides, a single external mirror between large corner pilasters. A light opens up (much reworked) with pointed arch and eyebrow on very eroded corbels.

It should certainly be valued more, restored to its original shape before the Second World War, in fact the soldiers, adapting it to the needs of the moment, modified and partially destroyed it. (Translated by Google) Long years of restoration for a result that was nothing short of "bizarre"; to name just one: ultra-modern lift (access to which is only after two uncomfortable and high steps) which leads to a landing closed on all sides and opening at the front of a small window overlooking the courtyard (????) .... I am also perplexed because it doesn't seem like a realistic restoration of the ancient house which should be a historical memory of the city....
