1Riquewihr

Riquewihr, a charming town located on the Alsace Wine Route in eastern France, is known for its picturesque cobbled streets lined with half-timbered winemakers' shops and tasting rooms. Visitors can explore the 16th-century Maison de Vigneron to see winemaking tools and a restored kitchen, as well as the 1291 Dolder Tower which houses the Musée du Dolder featuring centuries-old weapons.

Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg is a 12th-century mountain fortress that has been fully restored and offers stunning views of the Alsatian landscape. Situated at an altitude of 757 meters in the Vosges forest, it provides a breathtaking panorama of Alsace's plain, Vosges valleys, Black Forest, and even the Alps on clear days. The castle's interior features medieval elements such as towers, bastions, dungeons, and drawbridges.
Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg is one of the most complete castle I've ever visited in Germany, not just the 900 years of history it carries, also the fact that it's a German castle in France. You'll learn lots of things, to me, one of the most special thing here is how they demonstrate all those medieval period armour and swords ⚔️, you realize that how the knights fought back to hundreds years ago. Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg is also a perfect spot to enjoy the view of the territory of kingdom used to be.

Great View from the mountain top, also nicely restored castle. Kind of shows the common French-German history quite well. Nice place to visit. Not the cheapest visit, but definitely worth it.
Alexander K — Google review
An amazing place. As an English visitor I was greeted with kindness and plenty of English signs to read. The staff were lovely and the cafe was fantastique!! Well worth the trip and would visit again!! ** Just beware, lots of steps!! ;)
Cheryl T — Google review
True travel through time as you enter the castle doors. You can feel the deep connection with the Middle Ages and the ways of life in that castle. There is a rich presentation of the rooms and l their decors based on the era. In addition to the unbelievable gorgeous view of the hills around since you are on top of the mountain. A fantastic must-see, in my opinion
Haji A — Google review
As it seems with all restored castles, this one looks real and authentic with reconstruction finished in 1908. I wish the weather was more accommodating at the time of my visit to check out the views of surroundings from the castle walls, but, alas, fog was just getting denser. That added eerie feeling moving the floors and entryways of the castle. Genuinely liked the visit, kind of scored all the marks visiting European castle. Castle has started as a watchtower for Rhine surveillance in 1147 and expanded in to a fortress at the end of 12th century. Fell into disrepair and neglect in 17th century and had its lucky break in 1899 when Kaiser Wilhelm II decided to restore it.
Mike Z — Google review
Very cool storybook castle on a hill. It was burned and looted in 1633 rebuilt in 1908 by Wilhelm II. There are W's everywhere for Wilhelm. Many of the weapons in the armory are authentic from the middle ages. The view alone is worth the visit. Rumor has it the art director for Game of Thrones visited for inspiration.
Roofus0606 — Google review
Great day trip from Colmar. Spent 2 hours exploring chateau and enjoyed this activity on November cold day. My recommendation - wear warm clothes. Nice activity!
Liubov M — Google review
I think it's one of the best preserved castles I have ever seen. Absolutely worth a visit! The mountain ridge is 757m and the castles defense towers are 65m high. Fantastic panoramic views over Alsace.

Château du Haut-Ribeaupierre, also known as Altenkastel, is part of a cluster of three castles that overlook the town of Ribeauville. The site is a must-see in the area and all three castles are classified as Historical Monuments. Although currently under restoration, visitors can access the castle for free via marked trails.
Fantastic view of the ruin. It can be entered and climbed. There were also slackliners.

High fitness level needed to reach the Castle Ruins, but it's worth the hike. Not a lot of Ruins to see, but what is there is amazing. Definitely worth the hike.
Audrea B — Google review
The highest of the three castles, but the trek is quite demanding. It's a nice place, though not as impressive as Saint Ulrich Castle. If you're short on time or feeling a bit tired, you can skip it.
Subin J — Google review
Let's go challenge ourselves Take time and breath in the forest, take higher, believe in yourself
Angelique I — Google review
The walk to this castle was nice. Sadly during our visit there were active construction works ongoing. Which made further exploring impossible. Plus it also kinda destroyed the image of the castle ruins
Bob — Google review
You will surely be impressed if you get here! The view is superb.
Yihua W — Google review
The highest of 3 castles Currently they are working there and the tower itself is not accessible There are 2 paths going up from the lower castles, the one marked "facille" is a little bit easier, but don't expect any miracles, it's still a climb up hill 😃 Obviously all 3 castles are absolutely free to visit
Serge K — Google review
The hike to reach this castle from chateau saint ulrich is a bit more technical with roots and rock. It would deserve a little restoration as it’s seems to udr to be possible to go on top of the tower. I guess it became too dangerous.

Place du Bouc, also known as Goat Square, is a charming spot in the town of Ribeauville. It features a small stream that was historically used for washing clothes by local washerwomen until the mid-20th century. The square is flanked by narrow houses and the Grand Rue, creating a tranquil atmosphere perfect for relaxation. Visitors can admire the yellow corner half-timbered house from the Renaissance period with its unique architectural details.

Alsace restaurant
La Grappe d'Or in Riquewihr offers a cozy and traditional dining experience with its old-timey charm and rustic interior. The restaurant is adorned with quirky tools, winemaking equipment, and Alsatian pottery, creating a charming atmosphere. Guests can savor regional dishes like sauerkraut alongside traditional French fare from a varied wine list.
The atmosphere is extremely charming. The service was very friendly and pleasant. The dishes were well-served and the flavor was incredible. It was definitely our best meal on this four-day trip to nearby cities. We got a table by luck, don't try to get one, reservations are necessary. The dessert was light and full of flavor, I loved it. The price was fair. Our bill came to about 130 euros, for 4 people, we ordered a sparkling wine, 4 main dishes and two desserts to share. If you are in this area, you should definitely go to this restaurant.

It was a recommendation of a sales person at Dopff au Moulin, and we were happy that we listened to it! Perfect and very happy service. Very nice food, good portions and very fairly priced! The couch that we sat in was quite comfortable, and overall a very joyous experience!

Awsome Alsatian classics, 2nd visit and great price/quality ratio, will definately visit again when jn the region

This hidden gem in Riquewihr is a must, they do not have reservations but trust me you won’t regret. We got earlier at 18:00, when they just opened, the wine, the starters and the main course are just awesome, everything is delicious. They offer 3 different menus, this is a good option in case you want starter, main dish and dessert! The staff is awesome, definitely a place to go back more than once!
Alexander V — Google review
A great place with delicious food. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff is professional. They also have 3 menus with and entrée, main course and dessert.
Arianna P — Google review
We particularly enjoyed the prawn cocktail and duck breast - best duck breast through our entire trip to Alsace! The escargots is okay only...Super busy place during Christmas and we're glad to secure a seat from the day before.
Dbajune — Google review
Great service with flavoursome regional food that is well executed. It's certainly not a fine dining restaurant, tables are a little too close for comfort but service is great, food is tasty and well matched for the delicious local wine. A recommended local eatery, booking is essential. We only know of one better eatery in the town. Booking is essential.

Château de Saint-Ulrich is part of a trio of castles, including Chateau Girsberg and Chateau Haut-Ribeaupierre, perched on a hill above Ribeauville. The ruins date back to the 13th century and offer stunning views of the village below. Accessible via a marked trail, the hike to these castles takes about an hour and covers approximately 7km.
A must-visit if you're in Ribeauvillé! The view from the top is absolutely stunning. It's incredible how well-preserved the castle is, considering it was built around 1200. The trek isn’t easy—we took the forest route, but you can also take the vineyard route, which is shorter. Either way, the view from up there is truly exquisite!
Subin J — Google review
Gorgeous preserved ruins. The hike is a steep mile but well worth it to see from the top! The view is amazing
Gabriel S — Google review
Castle in honour of Saint Ulrich is an amazing place. It is the one of the three castles that we can see in its original shape. The ruines of the castle make us to think how many centuries past away. Amazing view from the castle to the mountains and the little village Ribeauville that placed at the foot of the mountain. Anyway the climb was quite complicated and take more than hour to get there. Prepare comfortable shoes, clothes, take a water and be careful to not miss the signs in the trees to not miss the direction that will take you through all the path.
Джули Л — Google review
Ruins of a big castle almost on the top of the hill with great views over the village. Take into consideration that you will need to make a good 40 minute walk to get to the castle. As well as there is no cafes on the road there. So get walking shoes and get ready for walking adventure
Yuri S — Google review
Very nice hike - not super difficult but still you need to walk in the wood, with rocks and sometimes the path is small and slippery. You need to equip yourself accordingly but worth a visit.
Elena C — Google review
Easy hike up the mountain. Take some water. Could be slippery coming down if it's been raining or threatening to rain.
Ike I — Google review
hard walk up 500m with awesome view of Ribeauville and vineyard around.

Magical ruin with stunning views! The walk up from town takes around 1 hour, you can reach all three castles with from one path. The path up is stoney and not very easy but it's definitely worth it for the views!

If you prefer to stay outside the city center, Le Chemin du Meunier is a great option. This guesthouse, located just a short 5-minute walk from the heart of Riquewihr, offers both a restaurant and a kitchen for guests' convenience. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean, providing comfortable accommodation. In addition, the guesthouse provides breakfast with freshly baked croissants served on their terrace.
We liked very much the accommodations. The room and bathroom were spacious, clean, modern , with just enough furniture to be comfortable. We also had “table d’hôte” (dinner prepared by the host), which was very good and very copious. It was served in company of the host, his brother and his wife and we all had a great time. We highly recommend this place! One detail not mentioned in the website: credit cards are not accepted.

Visitors can also explore exceptional botanical gardens housing over a hundred exotic butterflies from different continents along with diverse flora, bees, and ants.
This is a surprising and beautiful experience! We were on the Kutzig White Wine Route Bus and this was our first stop. We arrived early, so there were no wine tastings to be had! Gorgeous tropical plants and butterflies flitting all around. It was magical.
Izzie B — Google review
It is small, very small place. If you are not stuck there to photo every butterfly, the visit will take 10-15 min max. We went through in 30 min, with kids and making photo of almost every butterfly. It is a nice place, for sure, with a collection of orchids and some tropical plants. It is very, very warm inside. Be ready to strip down to a t-shirt. It is no barrier area, you can go in with stroller. The negative thing: it was VERY dirty on the parking and on the road to the garden. Yes, it was a rainy day, but parking place is the worst I ever saw in Alsace. Naked earth with puddles, so at the end everything in your car will be dirty. Considering the entrance fee, I would expect better maintenance of the place.
Tatiana E — Google review
I absolutely love the place and visit whenever I am in the area. It's not a huge place, but you can definitely spend some time admiring the butterflies, or just sit for a while and watch them fluttering around you, or sitting down on you! The plants are lovely, too, and I find it very relaxing being there. The information provided is useful, and when it is not a cloudy October day, the outside area is very nice as well.

Small butterfly garden. Lovely collection of species. Easely accessible with prams/wheelchairs. Just be careful not to flatten the butterflies on the ground. You can go round a couple times as well. You can easely park if you go early.
David B — Google review
Beautiful butterfly garden! Well kept and stocked. Actual butterflies to see depend on time of visit of course. But they were abundant when we were end of July. Entrance fee is reasonable to cheap but don't expect to spend more than am hour here. It is very warm inside the greenhouse so perhaps save this for a rainy or cloudy day. Great to take children here as the animals are largely fearless and fly all around you or sit on perches with some sugar or honey.

Never had the oportunity to play there, after trying to find out what the stakes are for the Texas Holden , I never was able to talk to any one but a prerecorded message , press 3 she said , no luck and not once only , then I pressed 2 , no one then 4 , not the hôtel , not booking à table at restaurant, 20 mns trying, not gone go there without knowing if they have à game , if they have more than One table open and what are thé stakes , so had to give up . This is appelling , not heard before , a casino with no staff to answer the phone, they must have too many clients , wondering what Head office going to say about that . And please don’t answer me the same bla bla you always say “we apologies and hope to make your stay better ,on your next visit”, cause there won’t be a next visit.

Fantastic place, at least 1000 people having a good time betting. I was there for the first time from +/- 19:30 to 20:30 and played roulette. Won a little although I am a beginner. Very nice and friendly people working there, I felt safe and although I don`t speak french they were very helpful! Sounds too good to be true? Then please stay away, casino`s are very dangerous places for your money and therefore your overall situation. Nevertheless nice atmosphere with lots of people. You will definitely not feel alone! I will visit again! Thanks.

Please stay away from this place especially if you are a tourist. I have gambled all over the world especially in the USA and you will never be treated this way. I was playing roulette and lost a lot which was fine. Then went to Blackjack and started winning when one hand I doubled on A2 and got a 7 making it 20. All of sudden dealer changes my card to an ace equaling 14 and I lose the hand. 300€ bet! How and why was this changed. The pit boss said it was a card that was already pulled, what?????! Where in the world do you make a floor call like that! Trust me, these people are fraudsters and you will lose your money there to people stealing your money!

It was nice but not something special as an experience. It was my first visit to a casino and i was expecting someone to be around to explain each game or "machine" how it works to contribute on the experience. There was a "tipping" request also in the end that i did not like. Bar service though was amazing , gentle and informative!

Château du Giersberg is one of the castle ruins in Alsace, with parts dating back to the 13th century. It was once owned by a powerful family who ruled the area for centuries. The highlight of visiting this smaller-sized ruin is the breathtaking view it offers, overlooking Ulrichsburg, the town of Ribeauville, and the Rhine plain. On a clear day, visitors can even see as far as Freiburg.
Great view on alsace and until the Black Forest. It’s a nice and easy hike to reach this castle but unfortunately it’s not possible to get inside.

Very beautiful…we were lucky to arrive during an Army training and was really neat to watch. The hike is doable. Two little children and two older folks did it! It was a little muddy and we had the wrong shoes but worth it!

The history in the air. Such an amazing view from the mountain. Personally for me it was complicate to climb up to the mountain but the view you see after worst it.
Джули Л — Google review
Ohhhh, I loved this castle. I was so amazed not only at the view but about all the effort these knights had to build this castle along the mountain top. Of course I had to take a break to connect with their spirits with my pendulum and an alphabet dowsing chart. The message really touched me! "BONJOUR MADAME, WE ARE KNIGHTS OF CHÂTEAU GIERSBERG. THANK YOU FOR APPRECIATING OUR WORK IN BUILDING THIS CHÂTEAU AND YOUR ENERGY HEALING." I had felt on the way up to the château the folded fan in my hand was swinging in circles. I took it as an invitation to send healing to all the knights who have been connected with these châteaux. I got inspired to make a crystal grid for all these knights who were connected to these châteaux in the region 💫🔮🏰

This castle ruin has a very beautiful view, but the castle itself isn't much. It is not reachable by car, and the walk to the top is quite challenging. However, compared with the other castle within 5 minutes of this one, it is definately worth it.

Thank you, Benedikt, for the wonderful English tour. It was incredibly informative and the highlight of our trip. I loved all the wines we tasted. I brought six bottles from the store with the intention of ordering more online later, but I noticed that the shipping fee is 20 euros. I wish I had bought more boxes at the store! I’m curious if the bottles are shipped safely to Germany without breaking, and please let me know if there’s a free shipping policy for bulk orders.

I can’t say enough good things about our experience at Bott Feres. First our tour guide Florent. There was an issue with their booking system that allowed a French language tour and an English tour at the same time and Florent did such a good job in doing the tour in both languages. First he would speak to the French couple in French and the said the same to us in English. It made for a longer tour but we didn’t mind at all. The ground here was amazing and gorgeous. Learning about how the wine is made and the history of the vineyard was so fascinating. After the tour of the cellar and grounds, we tasted several of their wines and purchased three bottles to bring home. If you’re looking for a great tour of a vineyard/winery while in the Alsace region of France, I highly recommend Bott Feres.

Lovely town, horrid police. We parked our camper on a parking near the old town. It said 'reservé bus' but there was ONE bus there at midday. We paid €4 and took the tourist train. We went back to get water for the dog and 2 policemen on horseback came and threw us out. The camper next to ours got no problem. Nobody was there. The police were very unfriendly and arrogant. Rude and unwelcoming. Not open at 14.00hrs as advertised. Waited around till 14.05 which was fair enough. When we did go in lady couldn't have made it any clearer she couldn't be bothered to speak to us. Shame as everywhere else in Ribeauville has been lovely.

The good thing in Alsace Region is that their highways are free, so you can go from one town to another without worrying how much you're gonna spend for the toll fee. And Ribeauville is another tourists destination, like other town in Alsace, you'll see wooden colored houses, with flowers at the front, several restaurants and wine shops, shops where you can buy stuff that you can bring back home.

Maison Trimbach is a renowned winery in the region, with Julien Trimbach as the 13th generation winemaker. Visitors are treated to a personal tour of the Grand Cru Geisberg hills and the family's cellars, culminating in an unforgettable tasting experience. The estate offers a range of wines from entry level to exceptional selections like Clos St. Hune and Frederic Emile.
As 2 foreign, English-speaking & young tourists, we were super pleased with our experience here. We were offered a generous wine tasting and received a very friendly treatment from Matthias. We bought a single bottle (not much could fit in our suitcase), and they never made us feel like it's not enough or anything like that. Note: it might be a bit tricky to actually find the tasting room as there are no large signs. You need to come through the main gate (which looks like an entrance for cars), and then go walk to the other side where there's a door with a small sign saying "tasting".

I’ve been to quite a few wineries/vineyards over the years in different countries and this experience was one of the best for sure. Had a truly wonderful time here with Matisse at a tasting and watching Anna entertain and teach a large group tasting. Matisse (and Anna) knows so much about the winery and the wines it was truly a pleasure to hear him (and her) speak. The passion they have is something special. The wines are really superb and consistently delicious. We also got to try wines I didn’t expect such as a Pinot Noir, and buy something we didn’t know about as it is not exported. We will return and we highly recommend if you’re in Alsace, come to this fairytale 400 year old winery and enjoy the hard work that is done by the wonderful people who create liquid gold in a bottle.

My visit to Maison Trimbach was like going to a celebrity’s home. I still can’t believe I was there, tasting their delicious wines where they have been made for generations. The wines speak for themselves. If you haven’t had a Trimbach Reisling, you are missing out on one of the tastiest wines in the world. I am a red wine lover and the Trimbach Reisling, Muscat, Gewertstraminer, and Pinot Gris make me a white wine lover. The staff are world class. We arrived unannounced and were welcomed with open arms. We had a wonderful tasting and learned so much about local history of the winery and region. We even learned about many historical ties back to our country. Very interesting. I recommend making an appointment to make it easier on the staff. They really spend time with you so it is courteous and in your best interest to make an appointment. We just didn’t know to do so before we arrived. Can’t recommend enough for anyone to make a stop when in Alsace.

We were greeted upon arrival by Matisse, who tailored our wine tasting to our preferences. Each wine was exceotional, as well as Matisse's knowledge and explanation of the Terroir, which contributed to each wine's expression. Our experience was so exceptional, we returned to purchase. If you are thinking of visiting, stop reading this review and go the their website now and book a reservation for your exceptional experience!

We enjoyed today the great wine of the Trimbach winery. Thanks to Pauline we got to know many inside from the winery and a lot of useful informations. The spontaneous wine testing was an outstanding experience for us. We have been to many wineries all over the place but we never got such a great service with so much motivation knowledge and emotion. Your wine wich is truly outstanding. Pauline thanks again, you made our day, we will keep you and your wine in a good memory. For sure we will come back to the Trimback winery soon.

The wine tasting was exceptional, featuring impeccable service and outstanding wines. We sampled nearly the entire wine list, including the prestigious Grand Cru and Sélection de Grains Nobles, providing a masterclass in Alsatian wines and its terroirs. ( Also since we bought a bottle, we were not charged for the tasting.) This ranks among the best experiences of our trip, my only regret was insufficient luggage space to purchase more wine :)

What a wonderful place!! Michele, the owner and wife of the wine maker is such a delightful person and you can tell how much she loves her work. I so enjoyed hearing about the history of the winery, how they make the wine, and the challenges they are facing as the temperatures rise. The wine is also wonderful. I ordered a case shipped back to me at home so I can remember my visit for months in the future. Thank you Michele, for making my visit so special.

Excellent price / quality wines. One of the most authentic visits to a wine maker / cellar in the area: The wife of the patron invited us in, very unpretentious -- even modest -- but very knowledgeable. Entirely a low-key family affair, with great love for the wines they produce at the very center. Was very impressed with the simplicity of it all, and the amount of heart and soul they put into it. Unsurprisingly, great value for the money, with quality coming before quantity.

(Translated by Google) Since I don't have an email address and I was made to look like a fool over the phone, I'm leaving this review, which speaks volumes about this wine. I bought this wine from the 2014, 2015, and 2016 vintages (reserve) at the Reims wine fair at a fairly high price at the time, and it seems they're not telling me the truth. Some time ago, I called about a problem with the 2015 because it had refermented, and they told me they did indeed have problems. Recently, I reopened these three vintages and indeed, there were major problems. The wine had started fermenting again, the 2015 was madeira-like, and the 2016 was bland and not even sweet; frankly, it was undrinkable. Following a call today, I was told, "This is normal; it's not a wine to drink old, and at worst, it should be enjoyed (10 years). I just answered why there were no problems with the 2014 even though it is even older? I have photos of the bottles and it seems that the cork also has something to do with it because we are going from plastic to cork...
