The Clock Tower, a 14th-century iconic landmark in Sighisoara, served as the main gate to the city's citadel and controlled the entrance to the half-mile-long defensive wall. It stored the town's treasures and is part of a collection of towers that fence the citadel. The tower stands near other notable structures like The House of Vlad Dracula and The Venetian House.
The Clock Tower is a very impressive structure of Sighișoara. Highly worth get there (it’s not that hard) and take a nice and easy tour. You can also climb to the Tower (we didn’t). While we were visiting, they had already prepare for Halloween, and it was so beautiful.
Nissim C — Google review
There's a small museum scattered through each level of the tower as you make your way to top the panoramic viewing platform. The platform gives you an unimpeded 360° view of the city. There's not a lot other than that. As well as the fact that nothing is translated through the museum, making it much harder to take an interest in the few items available for viewing. Despite what the signs say, the cost is 20lei to enter. I was in and out in less than 30 min.
Kyra — Google review
Student tickets for 5 lei is incredibly cheap, and the view was beautiful! Really neat seeing the clock mechanism and some historical artifacts on the way up. It got a bit tight in some places going up as people were also descending the same stairs, just watch your step.
Lia P — Google review
The Clock Tower is one of the only fully-visitable towers of the citadel. It's staircase and floors have been transformed into a small museum that houses exhibits from the medieval history of Sighișoara. The clock itself is still functioning and the bell sounds every 15 minutes.
Liviu-Cristian M — Google review
The castle district is huge and worth taking the time for long walks. Amazing views, buildings and architectural heritage. Spend af least a day here.
Levente C — Google review
Very beautiful landmark. Walking alongside this beautiful tower is a sight to behold. You can go up to get a great view of the city for really cheap.
Renata H — Google review
The day I visited the Clock Tower, the museum was closed. The architecture looked unique and stunning. Wherever you walked in the town, the tower was partially visible.
Melanie E — Google review
It is beautiful tower and overall medieval town with narrow streets and Dracula house as well as school, church and cemeteries uphill make a unique ambience

The Monastery's Church, once part of a Dominican monastery, is a stunning Gothic church built in 1289 with a baroque interior. The Late Gothic architecture is complemented by early Baroque interior fittings such as pews, pulpit, and altar. The church also boasts oriental carpets donated by the city's guilds. Despite being overshadowed by other architectural wonders in the city, this Lutheran church is a must-see for lovers of beautiful buildings.
The Monastery Church is located in the Citadel Square not far from the Clock Tower. The church, which is built in Gothic style of the hall-churches with 2 naves and 2 rows of pillars, belonged to the Dominican Monastery. The church was restored in the 15th century and then again after the big fire of 1676. The last repairs were done in 1894 and 1929 when the church aquired its present day look. The church holds valuable objects like a bronze front dating back to 1440, a stone door frame carved in 1570 in the Transylvanian Renaissance style and built into the northern wall of the church, a collection of 17th century oriental carpets donated by merchants and a fine altar piece from 1680. The organ was built in 1680 in Baroque style by the same artists that carved and painted the altar. The organ is used even today in many concerts organized in the church. The Church can be visited for a small fee (15 lei = 3 €).

A beautiful place to visit and rest. The ladies taking care of the tickets and the one presenting the history and architectural details of the church make the experience that much better. It is cool very rich in history.
Jean-Paul E — Google review
A church that needed a bit of renovation. The location of the church was siting on top of the hill and have a great view. You will not miss this church after bypassing the clock tower.
Teo G — Google review
A beautiful medieval evangelical church. It looks very unique and it fits the medieval city. It is perfect for a photo session, for entering and admiring the architecture and remembering how small we are...

1 star because they expect a ticket unlike in other places where churches just ask if you want to donate. Money making

Fantastic church inside with a great view outside overlooking the old town with a massive Romanian flag flying
David H — Google review
Beautiful from the outside the Holy Trinity Church is closed on Mondays. It is located on the bank of the Târnava Mare River.
Melanie E — Google review
It was quiet and peaceful when I was there. I enjoyed the art in the church very much. The interior paintings and details are beautiful and the atmosphere felt calm and sacred, perfect for a short moment of reflection away from the busy old town. Definitely worth a visit if you appreciate art and history.

Orthodox church built after the unification of the principalities It has a typical architecture for churches built around that time but unfortunately it was closed on a Sunday afternoon

Casa lui Vlad Dracul, also known as Dracula House, is a bright yellow building near the clock tower that attracts attention for being the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler. This historical figure inspired Bram Stoker's novel 'Dracula.' The house now serves as a museum and restaurant, featuring exhibits on Vlad's history and military campaigns. While some find the museum lacking in detailed information, it remains a popular tourist attraction.
Being inside the real house of Vlad Dracul was truly special, also I ve met one of his kind :)) for 15 RON , was worth it!

Nice... The kids like it, the little kid (8) little affraid but overall it's was nice. 10 Minute attraction.
Shlomi M — Google review
I don’t understand the low rating. It’s a really cool place to visit. You pay to see Vlad’s room. It’s a fun little experience for only €3 extra. A regular exhibition would’ve been boring! This was fun. The quality of the food was very good. I really enjoyed it. We ordered once to our hotel. We also ate in the restaurant. Both times were great.
Simon — Google review
For 15 Lei, you can have a quick experience and shake hands with the man himself. 😈
Thomas K — Google review
I have to give a huge round of applause and congratulations to the entire staff for managing to feel like the most ripped-off person in Europe after 27 years. The performance of the poor guy dressed in a bad plastic vampire mask and a small-sized costume lying in a fake coffin is underappreciated.

Biserica din Deal, also known as the Church on the Hill or Sf. Nicolae, is a prominent landmark in Sighisoara that offers more than just religious significance. The Gothic architecture and guided tours provide insight into its historical and cultural importance. As a museum, it showcases valuable exhibits like 15th-century altar pieces and remarkably preserved murals dating back over 500 years.
Probably the most beautiful evangelical church in Sighisoara. The church is situated on the top of the Citadel Hill, standing there from the IV century. Inside there are some impressive paintings, restored in 2004. It's one of the must see objectives from Sighisoara
Gabi G — Google review
This beautiful church was my favorite stop on a whirlwind tour of Romania. Yes, it is a long walk up the covered stairs. The admission to the church is inexpensive, and when we went, the man and woman working there were wonderful and friendly. We were treated to an excellent presentation on the church's history and the area. There is so much rich history and they were able to provide so many details.
Marc C — Google review
The Church on the Hill is one of the largest Gothic churches in Transylvania and it's located on top of the highest hill in Sighișoara, at about 429 meters above sea level. The church can be visited for 15 RON (~€3) per person and the price includes a small printout that contains information about the church's history and most important exhibits that can be seen inside, including a small crypt.
Liviu-Cristian M — Google review
Unfortunately, the church was not as interesting as we expected. Like some other churches we’ve visited, the renovations have erased much of its historical character, leaving it looking more like an amusement park than a heritage site. The ladies at the ticket counter, who also hand out printed information, were unable to tell us where the memorial to the German soldiers (located next to the church) was — we had to find it ourselves. Overall, it didn’t meet our expectations. And to be honest, if you’re short on time and don’t want to tackle a long climb through a tunnel with many stairs — which is quite demanding even for a fit person — I would not recommend it.
Nina M — Google review
After you climb 170 stairs and get all hot, you can get inside and cool off😂 Inside it the temperature is lower than outside and feels nice. To get inside you pay a 10 Ron ticket. There are 2 persons responsible there, and they tell you stories about the paintings from the walls and legends related to it. Is very nice. You can also visit the crypt. There is an old coffin visible there. Worth a visit!
Andreea D — Google review
Well restored Lutheran Church (originally Western Christian / Catholic) with older medieval lower church serving as crypt. The personnel at the door was very helpful, an information sheet with several languages is available. Some frescos. Some of the wooden aktar panels (e.g St Martin) and the choir stools are quite beautiful. The acoustics is great (I was encouraged to sing from the altar...).
René M — Google review
This was a beautiful gothic representation of the Saxon church. The surrounding are beautiful especially in the fall. The cemetery is just as interesting if not more so. I feel I spent more time walking through and enjoying the cemetery more than the church itself.
Chris R — Google review
Well worth the climb up 176 steps. The church is magnificent inside, and visiting the crypt is just creepy enough to send shivers down your spine. The guy collecting the entrance fee was very friendly and told me a little about the church. It was used the the saxon (German) residents in the area, but most of them have moved away for some reason, so today this lovely building rarely sees a service.

Beautiful square in the medieval city centre. It has a nice variety of good restaurants with traditional dishes and invites to relax at one of the cafes. It is clean but the cars are quite annoying. Nevertheless no one should miss this place during a trip through Transylvania.

Cemetery
Cimitirul Bisericii Din Deal, located in Sighisoara, Romania, is a large and beautiful cemetery that resembles more of a botanical garden than a typical graveyard due to the natural overgrowth. Despite its remote location, it's worth the effort to visit as it holds historical significance with old tombs dating back to the 1700s and an overall medieval atmosphere.
It is indeed quite a remote spot, but the effort that's needed to reach it is definitely worth it, as it is a hidden touristic landmark as much as it is a religious place. It can also be a nice vantage point to see the panorama of the city. Some parts of it are really isolated, with old tombs that date even from the 1700s, crypts and a general Medieval vibe the whole place gives. It's not really well maintained, but this is not very irritating, as it still keeps a classical Central European fantasy feeling.
Ștefan D — Google review
A peaceful cemetery situated on the highest hill in Sighișoara. There are two entry points, one being at the top of the hill while the other at the bottom, near the wooden stairs. The headstones are very beautiful and some of them are very old. It was a quiet and interesting experience to visit the cemetery.
Liviu-Cristian M — Google review

Me and my wife we stoped in Sighisioara when we were passing through. We ended up visiting places and we came across this beautiful and amazing cemetery. It’s quite large so patience is key. When you go in it looks more like a botanical garden rather than a cemetery, this is because the nature and the vegetation it takes it’s normal course. Romania is beautiful but unfortunately we’re not taking care of it.

My stay here was absolutely fantastic! From the moment I arrived until my departure, I was thoroughly impressed. A comfortable and enjoyable stay. I would definitely consider staying here again. Location was perfect for exploring nearby attractions and city center. It was within easy walking distance of everything I wanted to see and do.My room was spacious, clean, and well-appointed. The staff were exceptional! Everyone I encountered, from the front desk to the restaurant staff, was friendly, professional, and always willing to assist with a smile. The breakfast offered a wide variety of fresh and tasty options. I also had a wonderful dinner at the hotel restaurant. Thank you for everything ❤️

This review regards the restaurant. My husband and I had a very bad experience there today. We came for dinner only to be greeted by no one and directed to an open table with a hand gesture no word by an extremely unfriendly and rude server. We ended up ordering just one pizza to share. No one checked on us during the dinner, no suggestions, no words whatsoever. When we asked for two plates that were not provided beforehand the server looked at us again no word and sent someone with the plates. It was very unwelcoming. We finally asked for a check and waited forever to get it. Not to mention I’m pregnant and the wait was absurd. The server brought us a check with again absolutely no words no thank you no nothing. Please do yourself a favor and never go there especially as a foreign tourist. Unacceptable behavior.
Sonia K — Google review
We intentionally came for dessert only. The staff was delightful and the underground atmosphere was cozy and warm. The papanasi was cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside, soft and spongy on the inside. Great amount of sour cream and blueberry topping. The presentation made us want to dive right in.
Andrew U — Google review
The waiter visibly and audibly coughed directly in our soups. On top of that I’m fairly sure he was laughing about it to his colleague. He also quite rudely demanded a tip, which he did not get.
Will H — Google review
We waited at the entrance and no one came, but two guys busy behind the bar saw us. We saw a table downstairs. We went back upstairs and waited again. One of the guys said there was no space behind the corner, only round the side at the top and he pointed. The table there was reserved. We waited downstairs to see if we could sit there. There was another guy behind the bar there. He came over when I started fiddling with a bottle and told us to go back upstairs as there was no space upstairs. We went to another restaurant.

Alex , our waiter was very courteous and friendly and everything was served rapidly. Would definitely come back next time i am there

Tasty food, friendly service, decent prices! Burger was a blast, pizza made in a wood fire oven, even my rabbit was so soft and tender. Great home made desserts! But the waitress made us the entire evening, with her attitude and help in choosing dishes, plus helping us in making a family moment, cause one of the brothers was his birthday!

Great service, atmosphere, and food. Our server Alex was wonderful, he made recommendations that did not disappoint. We had the ciorbă with sour cream and chicken, it was one of the best soups we ever had. Pork chops and pizza were also good. We preferred the indoor dining which has very comfortable seating. We ate here twice during our visit to Sighișoara and can definitely recommend.

Tourist trap. We ordered local 'bean soup in bread' which contained so little soup/beans/meat that was hard to believe, the taste was basic. The 'tochitura' was also really dissapointing in terms of quantity which was very little for a high price(tried this food in many restaurants before and this one was the tiniest one and this place is not some gourmet place), it was however tasty but this could not redeem it. Also the place was very dusty. The service was alright. This was my experience, would not recommend and I hope that whoever reads this will have a better experience

I’m rating for breakfast only. Not bad food, and nothing beyond that. The ambiance of the restaurant is little dark and it smells like cigarettes. I shouldn’t have ordered the breaded cheese. It was heavy, yet it was good too. The service is good, but the staff seem unenthusiastic.

Nestled within the Central Park Hotel, Joseph T Restaurant is a sophisticated dining spot offering a diverse selection of international and local wines alongside delectable dishes. The restaurant's elegant ambiance is enhanced by live concerts, making it an ideal setting for both business meetings and romantic dinners. Situated in downtown Sighisoara, near the park and just 150 meters from the Clock Tower and Medieval Fortress, this restaurant provides an excellent option for a leisurely lunch or an extended romantic dinner.
Undoubtedly one of the most impressive restaurants in Sighișoara. It's located within a 4-star hotel but the restaurant is open to everyone. The atmosphere is great and the interior design is very stylish and pleasant. The seats are very comfortable as well. The service was excellent from start to finish. Our waiter was friendly and our drinks were quickly brought to the table. The food was delicious, with large portions and beautiful plating. The ingredients seemed to be high-quality and every dish we served was very tasty.

I really enjoyed the look of the place. It is really nice and with an elegant vibe. The atmosphere was absolutely lovely and really romantic and the music was just right. Regarding the food now, well, the food was just okay, in a way I expected a bit more, since the prices were a little spicy, but was alright. I had a Diana steak, and my partner had filetto a la jossph t. I also had a caramel cheesecake for the desert that wasn't really sweet, but the cheese was really good.

Absolutely Outstanding! We had dinner here and enjoyed a Transylvanian cheese platter, fish bream, and duck leg, paired with local beers. The service was impeccable from start to finish, and our waiter Mr. Sile was truly exceptional — attentive, professional, and friendly. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in a classic style, with comfortable seating that makes you want to linger. The food was simply fantastic — compliments to the chef! Every dish was perfectly prepared and bursting with flavour. It was truly one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing evening at the restaurant. The interior looks fancy, but you feel cozy once you get a seat at the table. The staff is really quick and helpful. The menu is very diverse, and you have plenty of options based on your diet or preferences. We had duck and sea bream in the oven and was really delicious. They have a great selection of Romanian wine, but we chose a glass of their wine house and was perfect. The quality of the food and service far exceeds the price.

We enjoyed our meal so much last night! The ambience and everything we ate was amazing. I also thought the price was very good The best part was the service of our lovely and sweet Simona. She really made the meal special for us
Celena V — Google review
Although we started with two amazing dishes we were expecting a third that never arrived because we had a confusion with the menu, which the waiter saw and didn’t help with. He was always unbothered and never cared to know if we were enjoying our meal or had any question, which is expected of a restaurant of this price and rating. Rather unfortunately, the third dish (spicy beef strips) was chewy and tasted poorly.
Marta A — Google review
The restaurant is great! I got a T-bone steak and a Chateaubriand, which were cooked amazing. I also wanted fries and a sauce, that they didn't have in their menu, but without hesitation, they made them for us. The food was very good and the plaiting was amazing. The atmosphere was calming and the interior was fantastic and felt royal. I totally recommend it!

Sighișoara City Hall is a must-see in this last inhabited medieval town in Europe. The historic center, though small, boasts fascinating old structures like rock walls and gates, a clock tower, and ancient buildings that transport visitors back in time. While some buildings may need maintenance, the overall experience is worth it. The neo-classical building offers a breathtaking view of the town and has a beautiful location. Visitors can also enjoy the back yard with its scenic views.
One of the last inhabited medieval towns in Europe, Sighisoara is a must on everyone's 'life list' of 'to do/to see and experience' places. Once there, make sure you spend at least one night in the old part of the town (look ahead for accommodation, as it is always very busy), enjoy a lovely meal at any of the restaurants or pubs (they all serve great traditional and international meals).
Sebastian V — Google review
The historic center is really interesting although it is small. It has cool old structures like rock walls and gates, also a clock tower and some old buildings. It is perfect to walk around and transport yourself a few hundred years in the past, to have a small glimpse of what I looked like in those times. Some buildings could use a renovation or maintenance, but it's still worth a visit.
Fatih A — Google review
I like it. The Sighisoara City Hall, nestled in the picturesque Citadel Square, blends seamlessly into the medieval charm of this UNESCO-listed town. Though it was closed during my weekend visit, the sunny, warm weather made the surrounding area a delightful place to linger. The building itself, while not as ornate as the famous Clock Tower nearby, contributes to the historic atmosphere with its understated elegance. Its prime location in the heart of the citadel puts it within easy reach of cafes, souvenir shops, and key landmarks like Vlad Dracul’s (*)VV(*) House, making it a natural pause point while exploring. The square buzzed with life—tourists admiring the pastel-colored buildings, street performers adding to the ambiance, and outdoor terraces inviting passersby to relax. Even without access to the City Hall, the vibrant setting offered plenty to enjoy. The sunlight highlighted the cobblestone streets and vibrant facades, creating perfect photo opportunities. While the building’s weekday-only access might disappoint some, its role as an administrative center rather than a tourist attraction is understandable. For those simply soaking in Sighisoara’s atmosphere, the City Hall’s presence adds to the town’s authenticity without demanding much attention. It’s a subtle but fitting piece of the citadel’s living history—best appreciated with a coffee in hand and no rush to move on.

Dinner experience, not lodging. Night 3 here in the citadel area of Sighișoara, this place was recommended by my hotel. Venison ragu on pasta, holy cow! Some much traditional Romanian fare in town - not that thats a bad thing - but it was great to have something that stood out. So robust and flavorful! Loved the meal.

Only a few steps away from the main attraction in Sighisoara Citadel which is the Clock Tower, yet quiet at night, this old Haus mit dem Hirschgeweih (House with the Stag Crown) with its unique architecture makes you feel royal but while offering decent prices. Very generous breakfast buffet with elegant coffee and traditional Romanian cheese, ham, salads, organic fruit jams and organic juice, omelette, etc. At lunch or dinner do not miss the red pepper cream soup served with croutons and Romanian cheese on top, nor the onion cream soup served with small yellow cheese bruscheta, the the pork steak with mushroom sauce, the Wienese schnitsel with cranberry jam which outruns the Austrian ones by far, nor the vegan pasta with vegetables as well as their traditional Romanian dishes or international ones, all served enjoying the stunning view over the Clock Tower and the old town square with its Transilvanian unique houses. A few steps away is the House of Guilders, a very nice small museum and also the remarcable Scholar’s Stair (dated from the year of 1642) which leads to the old Church from the Hill, to name only a few of Sighisoara’s outstanding attractions. Definitely we will return to this enchanting, alluring House beautifully placed right at the heart of Sighisoara Citadel.

One of the most central and the most quiet hotels I ever stayed in. This stunning old building was restored and transformed in a hotel, restaurant and cultural center by a German foundation. Staff, accommodation, restaurant and service is impeccable. For me the surprise was to discover one of the most interesting artist’s, TELI IACSA exhibition opening in the same hotel’s Art Gallery:. She is famous in her naive and mistique style under glass paintings in Romania and abroad. I’ve noticed first her works in her personal exhibition in Istanbul a couple of years ago. Teo's Cellar is a charming and cozy wine cellar located in Sighisoara, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere for guests. The cellar is housed in a 700-year-old building, adding to its historical charm. Teo, the host, is known for his hospitality and passion for sharing stories about the drinks he serves, including wine, beer, and spirits. Visitors can also enjoy palinca, Romanian moonshine that has earned Teo an internationally awarded Gold medal.
We first discovered Teo’s Cellar in 2019, tucked into the heart of Sighișoara’s medieval citadel. From the moment we stepped into their guest house and their cellar, Teo and his family extended such warm hospitality that we felt like being welcomed into old friends’ home. His passion for Romanian tradition shines through every aspect of the experience. Fast forward to 2025, we returned, not as boyfriend & girlfriend any more - this time to stock up before our wedding with some of the golden liquid, drawn again to Teo’s exceptional creations. His unique brandies and liqueurs aren’t just good; they are award-winning (gold, silver, and bronze medals) at international spirits salons and fairs. Some call it “medicine” 😍 We sampled everything - from velvety plum palinca to fragrant forest fruit liqueurs - each sip richer than the last. Teo’s pride and storytelling elevated the tasting into a cultural journey. Nestled within a 500‑ to 700‑year-old cellar, the setting itself is magical - stone walls, wooden barrels, the medieval ambiance all around . We came with guests from Arizona, US, and they have raved about how the hoast presents the cellar unique flavors, proudly displaying gold medals and the history of the place. Our return visit, reminded us why Teo’s place is a must in Sighișoara. His warmth, his spirits, and the authenticity he’s so keen on preserving, all combined to create an experience that’s equal parts cultural immersion and heartfelt celebration. We left with several bottles - and a deep appreciation for Teo’s craftsmanship and love for Romanian tradition. For anyone seeking genuine hospitality, top-tier spirits, and a living glimpse into Romania’s medieval soul, Teo’s Cellar stands alone - truly deserving of a gold‑medal mention itself.

Very beautiful rooms, lovely atmosphere, nice and quiet, peaceful ambience, very hospitable hosts. The owner Teo and his wife were very passionate and knowledgeable about the history of the place and very warm and welcoming, and proud of the cellar liquors they produce. We especially loved the nice tea area on the porch outside our room, both in the evening and in rainy mornings, enjoying slow and restful moments with vintage candlelight. The location is also great, in one of the best spots in Sighișoara, right next to the picturesque Central Square in the heart of the Old City and the iconic Roofed Stairs that go all the way up to the Old School and Cathedral in the hill. Very close to most restaurants and antique souvenir shops and we also loved the Cellar, we definitely recommend the Forest Berry Liquor handcrafted after a secret family recipe guarded through generations!
Augustin I — Google review
Teo's cellar is located in a hotel. We did not stay at the hotel but visited the cellar. It was a really pleasant experience for the entire family, including our 5yo. I had the wine tasting while my husband did the brandy tasting. Our daughter was served some organic apple juice and crackers so everyone was happy. We left with a bottle of wine that we corked ourselves and a bottle of brandy. The cellar is stunning and the host is amazing.

Affordable and locally produced palinca, tuica and wine tasting available in a cellar. My preference was the forest fruit liqueur. The name comes from the owner who hosts a BNB along with the liquor store of sorts. Takeaways (200/500ml) and trial bottles (100ml) also available to purchase as souvenirs. Strong stuff, so please don’t drink and drive!
_aliased — Google review
We tried some "palinca" (plum, pear and apricots) and forrest fruit liquor. It was amazing. Also Teo was very hospitable and thought us a bit of the history of the drinks and his cellar. Great experience. Would definitely come back.
Alexandra F — Google review
This was such a great find. Located in the courtyard of a guesthouse it was easy to miss. The man who helped us was also the award-winning creator of the specialty liqueurs. We loved the Forest Floor liqueur so much we bought a bottle. My only criticism is they could be marketing themselves more, with at least an "open" sign. It was empty when we visited and the restaurants around the corner were full. Although we love hidden gems to stay hidden, this place should have been much busier. Perhaps it's just the time of day we were there (4pm).

Although the curation has not been updated in probably fifty years it is a museum that still holds up for those interested in the history of the transylvanian Germans Most of the exhibition is translated in English, German and French and what is not translated can be easily gauged as a lot is self explanatory. The Romanian cards aren't saying much to be missed The highlight is, of course, the view from the clock tower where you might take up as much as 15 minutes to enjoy it properly

This iconic landmark holds great historical significance and offers visitors a glimpse into the past while exploring its picturesque surroundings.

The Covered Stairway, also known as Scara Acoperita, is a historic and picturesque feature in the medieval town of Sighisoara, Romania. Dating back to 1642, this Gothic architectural marvel consists of timber steps sheltered by a vaulted roof. As visitors ascend the narrow and winding passage, they are protected from the elements while enjoying scenic views.
Such a nice experience to go up the Covered Staircase (Scara Acoperită), a wooden structure with 175 steps, that leads to the Church on the Hill and the old cemetery.
Lamis G — Google review
One of the main sightseeing spots in Sighișoara Citadel. Carries a history going back to 17th century, when it was constructed to protect pupils from adverse weather and not allow them get in visual contact with the cemetery.
Dimitris G — Google review
One of the most picturesque and unusual places in the Sighișoara citadel is the Wooden Stairs, also known as the Scholars’ Stairs. Built in the 17th century, these covered wooden steps were designed to help students reach the School on the Hill, especially during winter or bad weather. The atmosphere is truly special: the old, well-preserved wood makes you feel like you are stepping back in time. The climb, though it may seem challenging at first (over 170 steps), is an authentic experience that leads you to one of the most beautiful panoramic points in the city, right next to the Church on the Hill. For tourists, the Wooden Stairs are not just a practical pathway but also an attraction in their own right. They offer a glimpse into the medieval spirit of the citadel and into the daily life of its former inhabitants. The light filtering through the planks, the coolness of the wood, and the echo of footsteps on the stairs create a unique atmosphere. Tip: Take a few minutes to climb slowly, touch the wooden railings, and look back toward the citadel – you’ll be rewarded with a wonderful view. This is a must-see stop for anyone visiting Sighișoara. ⭐ My rating: 5/5 – A place full of history, charm, and medieval authenticity. And a place where you can take incredibile photos if you can wait for the perfect light!
DAN C — Google review
For the first time I counted 175 steps, and after that just have discovered that there are 176 . Interesting way of the locals, for hundreds of years, to protect their children, on winter or rainy weather , on their way to school. And professors, too.
Ibolya I — Google review
From what I understand the stairs and roof covering was built for the school children and possibly a dry walk up the hill during bad weather. The walk isn’t too difficult but depending on your physical condition. There are a few steps in need of repair so pay attention where you place your foot. The whole structure is wood so up keep is always an issue with woodworking. There is a Church at the top with a 10 lei entry fee. Also, a beautiful cemetery to explore and find secluded areas to relax.

The Covered Stairway is one of Sibiu's true hidden gems. This beautiful passage isn't just a way to get from the Upper to the Lower Town—it's a journey through history. Walking down the cobblestone steps under the arched stone roof, you can truly feel the centuries of history in the walls around you. It’s an incredibly atmospheric and photogenic spot, connecting you to the heart of Sibiu's medieval past. The stairway is a must-see for anyone exploring the city. It's a peaceful and picturesque escape from the main squares and offers a unique perspective on the city's layout and fortifications. It’s an essential part of the Sibiu experience!

Very nice but some steps need to be aligned. These stairs is actually a way to school, thus students need to climb every day up

Great place to eat in Sighisoara, Romania 🇷🇴. Very centrally located. Seating all outside from what I could see. Great ambiance with lively background music. Service was wonderful. Food is great, and this restaurant has an extensive menu. They do accept credit cards. One unique feature of this restaurant: they have several cell phone charging outlets for customers.

I had a late lunch, early dinner here. The heaters were good. However the food and drink were not good. The beef goulash was really tough and rather tasteless. The lemonade was awful, just really sweet syrup in water. Service quite slow even though not many in the outdoor area. No one seemed to be in charge of the outdoors area.
John B — Google review
Very disappointing experience. It didn’t take long to place our order, but it took over 10 minutes just to get our drinks. We ordered a Greek salad as a starter, which took more than 30 minutes to arrive, and it wasn’t close to what we expected; lettuce with a few tomatoes, excessive black olives, no cucumbers at all. By the time we finished the salad, our drinks were empty, and we then sat for another full hour without ever receiving our main dishes or hearing form our server. I eventually had to track him down. There was no apology or mention that our meals were on the way so we paid for the salad and drinks and left. What made it worse is that the restaurant wasn’t even busy, so there’s really no excuse for such poor service. Based on other reviews, this seems to be a common issue here.

Waited forever to order and then even longer o actually get the food. Got served raw chicken wings and didn’t notice untill it was too late. When i told the waitress about it and that I won’t pay for raw chicken she just smiled and noded so I’m guessing this happens alot. Also the fries were cold and so were two pasta dishes my friends ordered. Would not recommend.

Nice staff, great service. In less than an hour we ordered and had our food brought to us and also finished eating. The portions were generous and the food absolutely delicious. Small issue was the small bathrooms but they were clean so there's not much to complain. Bonus points for the local cats politely roaming there. Made the experience a 10/10

Great music and lemonade. Pizza was great, the Bruschetta de la Casa was good but drenched in olive oil ( so ask to go easy on the oil).

Skip this place. Alina (our server) took over 30 minutes to bring a drink out, and over an hour to bring food. Not a busy time, just poor service. The food was also meh. It's a shame because it looks nice, but poor service ruins it.

Do not recommend! The food was awful! We received cold grilled pork and chicken meat (looking as yesterday cooked) that actually was raw and tasteless! Even the grilled vegetable were bad! How can you mess up grilled vegetables?! The prices do not match the low quality!

The friendly staff adds to the positive impression, and while the pricing is fair for specialty coffee, some visitors note that they had to request water with their order.
The place is beautiful and the coffee is AMAZING, the service is great and personalized. They also sell coffee from different countries and continents, the concept is very well worked. We loved it!

Very good coffee and well priced compared to other places. Desserts were very good even at the end of the day. Kept under a cloche so kept well. Barista was nice and really knows how to make a good cup of Java. Nice music as well as I’m sure this turns into a drinks bar in the afternoon / evening.

The hostel's location within the Sighisoara Citadel allows guests to experience the medieval spirit of the area. The rooms offer comfort and cosiness, complete with hot showers.
One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in!! Comfortable bed and pillow, and everything was spotlessly clean. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped. They have foosball and ping pong too. Check-in and check-out were smooth and easy. They also provide drinkable tap water. We really enjoyed our stay here! Highly recommend it to everyone. It’s more than just a hostel - it’s a great place to stay and relax for a longer time as well ☺️

excellent excellent location!!! I only stayed here for one night, so it was ok for me. i booked 4 beds with private bathroom but ended up with 6 beds( though only 4 ppl there) but bathroom was outside. very minimal kitchen, only some free tea but no free coffee. bed is comfortable for me. overall if only one night it’s good choice. free luggage storage before check in.

This hostel has a big positive thing: the location. Also the calmness inside, and a clean bed. The rest not so much: it’s a super old place and you can see some parts of the hostel need maintenance. My stay was not bad per se and the price is great. Just know that it’s a very humble place with old furniture etc.
Ignacio M — Google review
I really enjoyed this hostel. I was only here for a short while, one night, but I appreciated the self check in information so I was able to arrive late. I was the only one in the whole room, so I had the quietness to myself! My only issues would be: - I couldn’t figure out the lock mechanism for the locker, but I was alone so it was fine - The bathroom is slippery/ no holder for the shower head, so it’s difficult to shower and I was worried someone would slip if I wasn’t alone Overall I enjoyed it, and the owner replied super quick to my WhatsApp messages. Beds were comfortable, maybe a bit short because I am 196 cm! The kitchen is totally fine, lots of spices and such. I used the microwave and bought meals from lidl about 12 min away for 8 lei each 😜 Overall, highly recommend if you want to stay in the old town. To get here from the train station is only 16 min but it goes up some STEEP steps so recommend a taxi if you have issues there!

Stayed here in a private room for two nights, and overall it was fine. Decent room, very hard beds. Reception staff is non-existent, but check-in wasn’t difficult and overall the stay was sufficient for the price. Four rooms with medieval weapons you get to see for not even two euros I would say the price is right for what you get and there were a few surprising bits too, like the part about the general who fought Bonaparte and who was born near Sighisoara
Klaus W — Google review
We visited this place only, without buying tickets to the other two recommended museums. Even though there are some interesting weapons inside, which we enjoyed, we also thought that there weren’t enough reflecting the Vlad Dracul era. Lots of the weapons exposed are from diferent centuries, and some are not related to the Țepeș army at all. I have this place only three stars because of this. To us, it felt like the fire weapons were only there to fill the space. I hope that we did not miss the point with these! For those interested in Vlad Țepeș history, may e this is not the place to start. If you like seeing weapons from diferent centuries, I do recommend this place.

An interesting collection of medieval weapons and armor of different parts of the world. Also provides a small history of Vlad Tepes. Its worth visiting if already visited the clock tower.

Ugly, dirty, expansive, uninteresting, horrrible museum, no lights.
Q P — Google review
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to enter the museum as they did not accept card payments. When we tried to withdraw cash from a nearby ATM, we realized the fee was over €5, while the entrance fee for two people was only 20 RON (about €4). We found it unreasonable to pay more than double the ticket price just to get cash, especially considering that card payments should be accepted in most places nowadays. Additionally, the man at the ticket counter was quite rude and hostile when we politely asked if it was possible to pay in euros (in cash). It’s a shame, because we were really looking forward to visiting the museum.

It was a good choice - they have a selection of cakes and pies on the sweet side, but also had sandwiches on the morning offer - not a wide range, but OK. A good selection of tea and, of course, coffee too. It also looked like a nice place to sit out in the central plaza, and enjoy its terrace during a sunny day.

It is located near the Deal Church, the tower was originally erected with the first walls of the fortress, destroyed during the Tatar invasion in 1241 and rebuilt in the 14th century, the current form dating from the 16th century. It is also remarkable because it survived the devastating fire of 1676, which affected other parts of the fortress. I go up to the church on the mountain, listen to some organ play—the organist was rehearsing for the concert tonight at eight—walk by an establishment that sells papanasi and don't buy it there as I intend to buy it here. About twenty minutes pass and here I ask again for papanasi. "We don't have it," she says now. "But," I mutter, "you said twenty minutes?" She shrugs: "We don't have it." Amazing, Absolutely wonderful! And you must meet Rares Sopterean, museografer, historian and administrator of museum Casa Breslor and Casa Armelor. He knows so much information to give you about those places that you will be mesmerized. I was extremely impressed. The museum is located in an old building that has its own history. I totally recommend to visit the two museums (Casa breslelor si Casa Armelor) in Sighisoara. The Guild House is a “miniature” history museum that hosts an exhibition of tools, equipment and machinery used for centuries by craftsmen from Sighisoara and its surroundings. It is actually an exhibition dedicated to guilds and includes tools, guild insignia and multiple other objects.

Excellent museum! Very impressed with the great variety of historic tools and craft bjects and the detailed explanations regarding early craftsmen of Transylvania and their guilds. Yes, seems that to attain the Master status one needed to be a married German male!

Absolutely wonderful! Many items exhibited in a very alluring manner. The lady there ever told us a few things about Sighisoara and the citadel. I was extremely pleasantly impressed with the museum and the lady.

Romania requires a leader akin to him, for a minimum of ten years, to elevate its status among developed nations. The true bloodsuckers reside within the Romanian Parliament. Reflecting the local ambiance and informing tourists about this birthplace, the Statue of Vlad Tepes (1431-1476) stands as a testament. Commissioned in honor of the notorious ruler, it serves as a reminder of his reign and influence on Romanian history.
Cool statue to see for free walking around the city.

Couldn’t see it due to the scaffolding, no signs indicating when it would be available to see

Romania needs a ruler like him at least for the next decade in order to step next to the civilized nations. The real vampires live inside the Romanian Parliament.

Art & Crafts is a souvenir shop in Romania that stands out from the rest due to its unique and tasteful offerings. The owner, a skilled craftsman with a passion for traditional Romanian symbolism, has created an oasis of good taste in Transylvanian crafts. Unlike other kitschy souvenir shops, this store offers handmade items from Sighisoara that are sure to impress.
Great little craftsmanship's shop in Sighisoara! I hesitated to come to Sighișoara, but when I saw that they had this little shop, I decided to go and I was very glad to. They have all kinds of objects, all handmade in Romania (either in the region or in other places). The man is of course known for his handmade spoons (most of them for decoration, but we can use the white ones in the kitchen), but they also have a lot of other objects including wooden egg cups, little handmade houses of the region and other regions (for decoration), wooden money boxes (most of them in the shape of cute animals), little handmade houses to put a candle in it, pottery (plates, bowls, cups, ...), little decorated signs for the house keys, religious paintings, etc. During my trip in Romania, this is the shop where I spent the most money, because they are the ones who have the most beautiful handmade objects ;) Best shop in Sighisoara and for me also of Romania (although I only went to four places/cities). If you are in the region, make sure that you go there and don't forget to check the opening hours before (very important!).

An absolute gem of a store with works from a world renowned artist. They always have some fantastic hand made items and beautiful drawings and other objects. The shop is small but it has a large number of items without being crowded.

Fantastic shop in Sighişoara. Ceramics, wooden items, art. The craftsman was in the shop when we visited and was able to tell us about the items we purchased, which I love!
Karen W — Google review
Amazingly well crafted sculptures and paintings from local craftsmen. The owner happily shares the tales of the gallery's origins in Romanian, English, German and Dutch. You're able to buy the displayed tools and art pieces to a good price. Very professional presentation and a secret tip for travelled!
Stefan F — Google review
We were so happy we walked into this shop! Different local artists have their wares, ceramics, and crafts on display and the merchant kindly offered information about the different art styles and motifs. Definitely go visit!
Lia P — Google review
They should do something about the glass door at the entrance in the shop. This morning j bumped my head into it quite hard and i still have headaches.its 9 pm now. The girl at the counter inside the shop didnt even flinch to come and see if i was ok. She heard everything from inside but didnt say a word. What if the glass broke and i cut myself? What if another foreigner tourist would have harmed themselves in the door and would have made an official complaint about it? Or even sued the owner? I seriously damaged my wellbeing, due to the incompetence of the owner, staff for not marking that door. but i walked away instead. It should be marked with a caution advertisement, since its dangerous and future accidents may happen again

Most of the time when I see a souvenir shop (both in Romania and in Europe, too) I get an uneasy feeling of: brace yourself, kitsch is coming! Oh, but not here, not in this shop. The owner is a very talented craftsman, super passionate about Romanian traditional symbolism and this shop is an oasis of good taste Transylvanian crafts. You want a nice handmade item from Sighișoara? This is the place to get it.

A wonderful trip into Romania’s craftsmanship tradition! Marc, Raluca and Noemi are so knowledgeable and very welcoming. I’m looking forward to my next visit to Sighisoara. Pity my luggage can’t fit this time everything I wanted to buy from them! Thank you for making this special little corner available to us!

One of the larger towers making up the perimeter of the Sighișoara medieval citadel. It was built in the 14th century and it is located on the opposite side of the Clock Tower. The two passages are wide enough to fit a midsized car.

The Poarta cimitirului evanghelic in Sighisoara's citadel is a fascinating and historically rich place. The route leading to it offers breathtaking views, particularly during the warmer seasons. From this vantage point, one can admire the remarkable sight of Sighisoara from above. Additionally, if one happens to be fortunate, they may explore the intriguing cemetery nearby, which although unusual at first thought, provides an engaging experience worth witnessing.
Nice and full of history place in Sighișoara's citadel. The road on which you get there is spectacular especially in the summer or spring, you can see Sighișoara from up above from here. If you are a bit lucky you could even visit the cemetery, which sounds a bit strange, but trust me it is interesting to see.

The Central Underground Museum is an impressive and fascinating establishment that resembles a time machine, allowing visitors to travel back in time. This historical museum offers a comprehensive and authentic experience, providing insight into various periods of history. It is a place where one can explore the rich heritage of mankind, showcasing artifacts and exhibits from different eras. The museum guarantees an enlightening journey through time, enabling individuals to gain knowledge about the past without relying solely on personal experiences.
Luckily our tour guide friend [always on the look out for things to do and see] spotted the sign in the hotel for this superb museum which was actually one of the highlights of this trip. It's filled with information, billboards, and donated items from the period - they had the most beautiful ladies' shoes! We also were very lucky to have the hotel manageress who gave us a targeted tour as we were close to closing time and her funny stories are ones i will never forget. The museum takes a 1000 ft view of this fascinating period of Romania's history from circa 1944 to 1989. Thus far from being a depressing exhibition it balances the cult of the personality and shortages during the debt clearance initiative to how to Romania rapidly industrialised, attempted to steer a course of non-alignment, and was a producer of electrical goods for poorer countries and for people like my own family who were poor in the West. Loved the little sitting room, it looked my Granny's! Worth a quick look if you are in the beautiful city.
