Nestled between Port Talbot and Ogmore by Sea, Porthcawl Rest Bay Beach is a stunning stretch of golden sands that beckons both locals and visitors year-round. This picturesque beach is part of a series of beautiful coastal spots extending from Sker Point to Ogmore. The charming promenade, originally built in 1887 to honor Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee and later restored in 1996, runs alongside the beach, offering breathtaking views over the Bristol Channel.

Lovely beach. With lots of little stalls and arcades for Tue kids lots of little restaurants and bars for all ages and a theme park ice cream Parlours and there is plenty of room on the beach with space. And the main car park is £5:00 all day 👍
Simon R — Google review
This beach is so beautiful and is always full. I would recommend taking food and drink as it is very expensive in the cafe.
Gemma D — Google review
Similar to other reviews. Great scenery, make sure you check the tide times before attending. Can get busy. Car park not the biggest on busy days however superb prices for the car park. One issue is the lack of public toilets, only a few toilets, and on a busy day there was a 30 minute wait to use the public toilets.
Rob A — Google review
Beautiful place to start a coastal walk. Kite surfers, and sea lovers are loving the waves. Rock pools here,Amazing open space, incredible light at different times of the year. They have huge area of dunes. Great cafe here and rental stuff for the sea. Cheap car park. Been many times. Winter will blow the cobwebs away let me tell you 😄👍
Stephen O — Google review
Great day out with my daughter. Ramp down to beach was good as we had a pushchair and a hand pulled trailer. Immediately thought of other beaches but they only had steps. This was cheaper parking. Ramp to beach. Lifeguards. Excellent beach with rock pools and a compact sand ideal for pushchairs to go right out to the sea. Made great sand castles with my daughter. Nice moist and compact sand. Lovely day. Great beach definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended.

Beautiful place to visit. Amazing
Shehan W — Google review
Beautiful beach situated a few minutes drive from Porthcawl Town centre. Popular all year with surfers, families and walkers, so the large car park frequently gets very busy. Always worth going early on weekends and during holidays. On this visit we took the boardwalk from Rest Bay to Pink Bay, it's a lovely all weather coastal path that runs between the golf course and sea.

Bay
Rest Bay is a hidden gem nestled in Porthcawl, celebrated for its rustic charm and unspoiled beauty. This stunning beach is not only a haven for surfers of all skill levels but also offers an array of water sports and delightful tidal pools to explore. With consistent waves year-round, it attracts both seasoned surfers seeking thrills and families eager to introduce their kids to the joys of bodyboarding.
Beautiful during the evening. Unlike other Porthcawl beaches, this is peaceful and clean. There is a restaurant near the beach but food orders will be taken only before 7pm. After 7 you have drinks and enjoy the view. The hoardings on the beach are cute and educative.
Shalini V — Google review
What another gem got there nice and early 8,30am only a few people about tide was in the went down the coastal path towards port talbot nice walk would be accessible to a wheelchair too along the coastal path to get on the beach it is uneven ground thow (pebbles) would be nice if they made it accessible to all
Rhys B — Google review
Very popular with surfers all year round. The tide goes out a long way exposing loads of beach and plenty of space for everyone. There's a decent car park costing £1 per stay, when we parked there and cafe.
Andy O — Google review
Best spot in south Wales though I haven't been to Goa yet. Rock pools sand, surf and café. I feel bad letting people know how good this spot is as I would love it to be a secret.
Michael O — Google review
Large, unspoiled beach. Car parking available, including disabled right next to beach. Dog allowed in winter. Cafe close by, offering hot snacks. Water sports available during summer at least, very popular with surfers.
Dekenba — Google review
A very family oriented place to visit, making it a fun and memorable day out. Great beach when that tides in and with Porthcawl Town around the corner you could easily make a day of it.

Golf club
Nestled in the charming coastal town of Porthcawl, Royal Porthcawl Golf Club is a must-visit for golf enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. This stunning course offers breathtaking views of the surrounding coastline, making it an ideal spot for both seasoned players and newcomers to the game. The club is conveniently located near various attractions, including the Grand Pavilion—a Victorian gem that serves as a theatre and cinema—and several lovely parks perfect for leisurely strolls or picnics.
A wonderful links golfing experience. It doesn’t get much better than this for links golf. The sun shone the sea glistened and the wind blew. The anticipation heightened as we ate our breakfast and the staff smile and couldn’t do enough for us. The club house is steeped in history and views from the bar are spectacular. The golf course is a challenge but in the wind it’s a battle. The greens are in great condition and the rough is just tough. Too tough for me but keeping out of it in the wind impossible. Loved it and will definitely be returning
Iain L — Google review
A great day from arrival to exit. Took full advantage of the facilities, hit the range which offered plenty of variety to prepare you for what awaited. Staff were more than welcoming and accomodating throughout the day. As for the course, it was in immaculate condition. We played in quite testing conditions and felt fully immersed in the RPC experience. The golf course itself is enough to test all elements of your game, it's fair to say you need to plot your way around wisely to avoid the consuming Fairway bunkers and surrounding traps protecting the greens. 10/10 from me and I can't wait to return.

Visited for British Ladies Open Competition and had a brilliant day. Good facilities and easy parking. Wonderful to watch such classy and elegant golfers playing a beautiful but testing links golf course.
Steve D — Google review
One of the very best golf courses you can play anywhere. A proper test, even in relatively mild conditions, but fair and rewards good golf. Lovely clubhouse full of golf history.
David K — Google review
I went to the practice day for the Women's Open and it was a spectacular day, even the sun shone all day. The course was in perfect condition and the pro's put on a great display of golf in a very relaxed atmosphere. Very willing to sign autographs for the many fans of all ages. It was all very well organised for the fans to enjoy the special occasion.

Beach
Newton Beach in Porthcawl is a narrow stretch of beach that welcomes dogs and offers rock pools and water recreation options. It is located just a short walk from the charming village of Newton. This beach, which spans about 3 miles from Newton Point to the River Ogmore, features a mix of sand and rocks, making it popular among windsurfers, jet skiers, and power boaters.
A lovely peaceful place, not too busy and the walks are amazing. There's so much to see from the Burrows and two castles. Well worth a visit
Julie B — Google review
Great beach for walking an energetic dog. Unfortunately they've doubled the price for parking in last year or so. For that you still get the huge potholes which fill up with water and they've also taken away the bins at the end so not sure what the 100% increase in price actually pays for. Apart from that, if you go at the right time you can get some great views while you walk.
David P — Google review
Lovely dog friendly beach, nice stretch of sandy beach with rocky areas. Plenty of interesting rock pools For the dogs to explore. Easy to get down to the beach via a ramp. Turned left and walked for ages, plenty of other dog walkers enjoying the beach too. No facilities at the beach or the car park, not that this mattered, brought all we needed.
Mr B — Google review
Perfect for doggy walks. Sand, seaweed, rocks, puddles, dead crabs, sticks, what else can a doggo’s heart desire.
Anastasia F — Google review
Great family and dog friendly beach. One end has rock pools and more rugged feel, great for exploring the other way is endless Sandy beach that eventually meets up with the river separating it from Ogmore by Sea. There is a great path along the top of beach leading to Trecco bay, great for anyone with limited mobility or in a wheelchair. At peak times there is an ice cream van, but no other facilities as such. Newton village has two excellent pubs, a chippy van and a little further are shops. Beautiful anytime of the year, well worth a visit.
Bill J — Google review
Fantastic beach, shame about the council carpark zero services but wants to charge a fortune to park on our own land. Great beach for dogs and walks. Access is pretty easy. Brilliant for swimming.
Phil G — Google review
It is not the most picturesque beach in Wales, but it is very nice. Firstly it is huge, so it never feels crowded, even when it is and I can't relax when the beach is busy. There's always plenty of space, ideal for setting up volleyball net and play, which we always do. Secondly, only 40 minutes drive from Cardiff/Cearphilly area. Some people may not like the fact that it is open for dog walking and there aren't any toilets or shops (just a little ice-cream van) but I am not bothered.
Agnieszka K — Google review
I think it was just a bad day when I went but it definitely gave me the UK beach experience, it’s like the first episode of a series of unfortunate events. It was foggy wet and you couldn’t really see the beach however it was nice nonetheless, it was mysterious and alluring. But definitely not summer vibes. But there are lots of ice cream trucks and snack stops must try at least one ice cream truck for the experience.

Beach
Pink Bay beach is one of the Blue Flag beaches in the town. It is a calm and sandy beach that leads towards Sker Point. There is a car park with a tarmac surface nearby, serving the beach. It is an ideal place for families to take a leisurely walk together. The beach also attracts a vibrant surfing community and offers facilities to hire surfboards. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the rock pools, stunning scenery, and opportunities to search for driftwood.
What a great beach, really rocky when the tide is In but if you time it right when the tide is out it reveals a good sandy beach, lots of rock pools to adventure around, parking in the car park of rest bay and its a 15 20 minute walk from the car park to there, there is a boardwalk but to get there but to get on the actual beach it over a uneven ground 😀 definitely will be visiting again
Rhys B — Google review
Pink Bay is a lovely little beach which people don’t make the extra effort to walk to, resulting in a quiet and calm spot perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The walk is around 25 minutes along a very flat decked coastal path; accessible for bikes, pushchairs and wheelchairs. The coastal path walk follows the coast line on one side and the golf course on the other. Very pretty views and very flat. You pass the very busy Rest Bay beach, which I avoided due to over crowding and music playing, a smaller cove of a beach which seemed too pebbly for my liking, and then you reach Pink Bay. To get down to the bay there is a quite steep hill of stones; nothing too extreme, but not suitable for anything with wheels. Not too dangerous, very similar to Newgale in Pembrokeshire. When the tide is out you can sunbathe on sand (not the fluffy kind, more the solid slightly wet at the touch kin. Nothing a good towel can’t handle!), and when the tide is in you can sit on the very flat and spacious rock formations along the beach. (I promise, they were comfy to lie on. As did everyone else) All the sand underwater was flat and pebbeless and seaweed free. So ideal for swimming. Just like being on holiday! Dog friendly, child friendly, BBQ friendly, sea swimming friendly. No toilets, no bins, no sand flies, no slippery rocks, no pollution. Parking at the Rest Bay Cafe Bar Car Park was so full so quickly, and you had to pay. But 100m before, a bunch of cars parked on the over grown grass which was free. I did this and it was completely fine.
Gwen M — Google review
A beautiful place to walk with the family. It looks like it has a big surfing community also with a place to hire boards ect. If you're looking for rock pools, breath taking scenery or even a search for drift Wood, this beach is the place to go. Also, other visitors are very lovely and conscientious, no littering is refreshing! We took a bag to pick up any dropped but here there was only one single piece that looked more dropped from a pocket. Well Done 👏
LT.Ripley 2 — Google review
A picturesque beach accessed by the boardwalk from Rest Bay, Porthcawl. The rocks on the beach have a lovely pink hue. Well worth the walk that skirts the golf course. You can go further towards Sker Point and the to Sker beach, an impressive long straight beach.
Andy O — Google review
Prefer this to Rest Bay, much quieter during the busy season. Also accessible via the footpath from West Road that goes around the back of the golf course 10 to 15 minutes walk and free roadside parking.
Huw P — Google review
A little rocky in parts but great to take your dog all year round.

Love taking my youngest into Porthcawl he’s never not amused… not only do you have the beach and lengthy coastline not to mention the local celebrity Lizzie…there’s also the fun fair (seasonal hours) but not for much longer as it’s closing altogether…there’s the hi-tide restaurant which is fab plus many other food options along with the arcades plus the town centre within walking distance..great place what’s not to love

Lovely stretch of beach. A good amount of food vendors and shops. Amusements looked busy. Free parking on the prom however get there early as it is very busy. A lovely day out
Gina C — Google review
Wasn't the best, we especially went on holiday here especially for the rides for only 3 fast rides to be working. I know it's closing down we payed half price for the tickets so just £12 so £60 for the 5 of us to leave there an hour later after going on them 2 -3 times each. I think the council should put money into this and get it back to what it was before.

“Coney Beach was a great experience! Lovely atmosphere, fun rides, and a nice place to relax and enjoy with family and friends.”

Lovely experience. Perfect for young kids. Wrist bands are the best as can go on rides as many times as you would like for cheaper than paying for each ride !.caravan place nearby to rent too. Amazing for a little get away.
Kali D — Google review
Great fair right on the beach front, no disabled or carer tickets available and the bad thing is if you have a child with special needs (age 6)who can only go on the junior rides they won't let you by a junior wrist band if there just over the height limit but they can go on them?realy unfair! you have to purchase a £20 wristband even though they won't go on any of the big rides bit unfair realy, but realy worthit if you plan to go on all rides. Good day out all round.

It was nice visiting an area that my ancestors once lived and getting to know the local history. There was plenty to see at the museum and gain a sense of what life was like in 1940s. This museum is worth a visit if ever in the area.

This was such a great find. The volunteers running the museum are all highly informative and just want to share their love of history with anyone who whats to come and enjoy the museum. Trecco Bay Holiday Park in Porthcawl, South Wales is a popular destination for holidaymakers. It's known for its vast accommodation options including fixed lodges, camping sites, and spaces for caravans. The park has garnered positive reviews from visitors who praise the beautiful surroundings and great facilities. With its convenient location and various amenities, Trecco Bay Holiday Park offers an ideal setting for a memorable vacation experience in South Wales.
Stayed at Park Dean Trecco bay for a week. Sunday to Sunday. 2 adults, 3 children under 11 years old. We really enjoyed ourselves we can not fault the complex at all. We loved every moment of it. Will definitely be returning. All the staff are very friendly and actually enjoy their jobs you can just tell. The staff could not do enough for you in every section of the complex. Special shout to Katie in the Indian restaurant (Tandoori kitchen) her service was on point and even recommended things to explore in the local area which we did and we enjoyed can’t thank Katie enough for that. Highly recommend Trecco bay to any family looking to go away.

Checkin with Stacey was very easy and she explained everything we needed and answered all the questions we had. She was brilliant. The location was nice but a bit noisy as we were close to the music being played at night. Unfortunately the weather was bad all week which couldn't be helped so we weren't able to enjoy the outdoors experiences but the pool was fun even if the slide was out of order. We had some matinence issues most of which were fixed swiftly after raising the issue but we had lights out in the main living area which weren't fixed. Overall we had a lovely stay.
Roxanne E — Google review
The entertainment team are honestly one of the if not the best team we have experienced at all the sites we have been to. They were amazing with our 2 year old. Pop fuzz and Kelsey were 2 of the best holiday entertainment shows we have witnessed in 15 years according to my dad and they go abroad to big holiday resorts 2/3 times a year Tots week was amazing so much to do and the troupers were great with all the kids
Anne D — Google review
Overall, we really did have a good time, but there were a few things that let the experience down which I feel are worth pointing out. When we arrived at 17:30, our accommodation wasn’t ready until 18:00. I know in the grand scheme of things half an hour isn’t the end of the world, but check-in was meant to be 16:00. With two energetic two-year-olds in tow, we’d deliberately planned to arrive later just in case there was a slight delay—but even our “late” arrival still wasn’t late enough! Food wise, the Boathouse wasn’t the highlight of the holiday. The steak could have doubled as a chew toy, the lasagne seemed to have misplaced its flavour, and the chicken flatbread was soggy yet somehow stale at the same time (a real culinary paradox). The Caesar salad was so drowned in dressing it could have done with a lifeboat, and the mac and cheese for the kids had hot and cold patches like a badly tuned radiator. Not ideal for the prices being charged. Papa Johns being closed on Monday night was another blow—after travelling and wrangling toddlers, we just wanted to unpack, eat, and relax. That said, the rest of the site more than redeemed things. The facilities were brilliant—spotlessly clean and really well looked after. The park was perfect for the little ones, and the pool was a huge win—they absolutely loved it. Morning entertainment was a fun start to the day (though some entertainers were clearly more caffeinated than others), and the soft play was nothing short of a dreamland for toddlers—spacious, fun, and a fair price at £4.50. I also really appreciated how clean the site was, especially with so many four-legged guests around. While some dog owners clearly missed the memo on picking up after their pups. So in short: brilliant facilities, kids had the time of their lives, but the food and the check-in delay did take the shine off what could have been a perfect stay.
Rachyel A — Google review
The site was clean and huge. Fantastic location and amazing sunsets. The beaches looked impressive. Easy walking to the local area. And should you need A&E, as did we, then Princess of Wales in Bridgend is brilliant! Mobile a bit tired but still comfortable. Coming back to get the full experience.
Linda T — Google review
Been a good few times as its only an hour up the road. It's a lovely holiday park with tons to do! The workers keep it clean and they are always helpful. Prices are on the extreme side! Especially beer and food! Activities are mainly chargeable as well and again... Can get expensive! The entertainment is great - APART from slamming bingo straight in after the kids entertainment but before the kids/teens disco? It ABSOLUTELY KILLS the mood and is boring as sin if you don't gamble or play bingo! Personally I believe it should be on early or late and kept separate from the "entertainment" as it goes against what entertainment actually is!
Lee R — Google review
Elvis Festival - Nice caravan, nice service, great entertainment. Booking in was a nightmare all having to go up individually to check in and get event bands. Toilets in the restaurant weren't all working. Staff were friendly but sometimes a little lacking when asking for info or advice. Event in itself was great. Good site for a family holiday.
Lucy S — Google review
Rooms nice and clean with everything as described. Stayed in for a week end of summer, had lovely weather and plenty to do at the holiday park and locally. Been checked in by Amelia who made sure we’ve had everything we needed. Even some extra queries during our stay were very quickly answered. Overall very nice stay

Second parkdean park we have been too. Have to say this one is a lot bigger but nowhere near as good as the one in Devon. Area isn't the best park and caravan was very grubby. Everything needs a good clean!! Nice week away but don't think we would return to this park.

Fantastic beach and rockpools are some of the best I've seen, starfish everywhere. There is a free carpark within trecco bay camp that leads down to the beach. If you're going to Trecco Bay Beach have a look at the beaches either side of it too.

Beale's Park Fish Restaurant is a must-visit when you're in Porthcawl, especially if you're craving the quintessential British dish of fish and chips. Renowned for serving some of the best fish and chips around, this eatery offers an impressive menu that won't break the bank. While it can get busy on weekends, with queues forming outside, the staff efficiently manage to keep things moving smoothly. The friendly customer service adds to the welcoming atmosphere, making your dining experience even more enjoyable.
Beales is a Porthcawl institution. Fish & Chips don't come much finer than this. A side of mushy peas just helps complete the exquisite meal. You can get a bag of fish & chips in many other local places if you want the eating while walking experience, including here... but treat yourself and use the restaurant for a meal that will stay in the memory.
Steve M — Google review
Fantastic fresh fish and chips. Boiling hot and plentiful. My wife had goujons but failed to eat all of them as they were massive! Highly recommended whilst in Porthcawl
Simon H — Google review
Excellent fish and chips. The fish is fresh, well cooked and has a light, crispy batter. Perfectly cooked home made chips. Delicious Irish curry and mushy peas. Service is excellent by welcoming and friendly staff. You can eat in or take away. Easily the best fish and chips in Porthcawl
Kevin F — Google review
Really FANTASTIC fish and chips here I don't ever remember enjoying fish and chips so much, definitely up there with the best ever..Would 100% recommend a visit to Beales when you come to Porthcawl. Little tip, try to get a table inside the restaurant as opposed to near the front door as the door doesn't shut properly and it's not so pleasant if it's cold outside. The staff kindly moved us to a warmer table which we were very grateful for. Very, very tasty fish and the most perfect batter ever. Can't wait to eat there again!
Shortie R — Google review
Very nice comfortable fish and chips restaurant. It isn't on the sea front, but only a short drive away. We managed to park outside, although spaces are limited. The place was reasonably clean, and the decor was fine. The toilet was just about okay for Mum with limited mobility using a rollator. I think a lot of people would give this place full stars as there was nothing bad about it. I have a bit of a 'thing' about places that don't change the mop water, so I guess I'm picky! The food looked very good and whilst we have had better, we enjoyed it. We would go back again.

Lovely food and excellent service. The staff accommodated 6 of us on a walk in. They were polite and helpful. Excellent Chicken Curry and Chips, but I do feel there wasn't enough chicken in the Curry.

Visitors can explore hidden gems at Ogmore-by-Sea and Dunraven Bay beaches, with their secret inlets and caves waiting to be discovered. The reserve is also home to diverse flora and fauna, providing a wonderful opportunity for nature spotting.
I felt like Lawrence of Arabia. I can understand why some of the film was made hear, it was somewhat challenging in some bits, especially the big dipper, but loved the challenge. There are also stunning views of Ogmore by sea and orchids and other wild flowers. Well worth a visit

We truly underestimated this hidden gem! 🌞 On a warm, clear day, it's the *perfect* spot to relax and soak up the sun. You can easily spend hours here, just taking in the incredible surroundings. 🏖️ The kids had an absolute blast playing in the beautiful, golden sand 🏝️, while we enjoyed sitting back and marveling at the stunning views. 🌄 ✨ **Definitely one to tick off your list!** ✨ 📢 **Pro tip:** Bring your own food and drinks 🍎🥪 because there aren't any facilities nearby. It's a slice of paradise, but you'll want to come prepared for a picnic! 🧺 A wonderful day out for all ages! 🐚🌞

We visited on a bank holiday. We arrived in the middle of the day and stayed for 2 hours, thinking that would be enough time. We didn't make it to the beach and back in that time. If I visited again I'd pay for the full day, we just felt £5 for parking was a bit much as it went from 2 hours to all day. We'd have benefited from more staggered parking options. There are a couple of dunes that some people were sledging down while we were there (or attempting to). It was a sunny but not hot day, so there were some beautifully clear views to the beach across the dunes. It was stunning we saw some birds of prey hoovering above. Paths are larger than some other similar nature reserves. As you'd expect with sand dunes, there are loads of hills to navigate). Signage was a bit confusing from the car park (to head to the beach you need to find the double bins to the left of the nature reserve sign - see photos for sign - then take the path to the right of them). Signage when in the dunes was almost non existent, which may have added to the time it took us to head to the beach...
Ellie B — Google review
Took the kids after school one afternoon, beautiful place, dunes are lovely and full of butterflies, birds, plants, dunes, great walk to gorgeous sand beach.
D R — Google review
Lovely place to visit though is a sandy & hilly walk to the seaside! Beach has been quiet the two times we have gone which is nice! Parking is £5 for all day
Louise — Google review
Wonderful place, child and dog friendly. Best time to go is out of peak hours when it is a very peaceful place. The walking can take a toll on the calf muscles in the soft sand, but a great place to go for a short walk or day out with picnic. If you are feeling adventurous you can walk to the sea, or a slightly shorter walk to the river. Car park is large and fairly reasonably priced.
Bill J — Google review
Lovely area for walking dogs and even do some of your own physical fitness on the beach and sand dunes
Andrew D — Google review
A great place to visit the sand dunes are beautiful at the time of our visit it was quiet. The beach is nice and clean. The only reason it's marked down is the sign posting is terrible, at the car park there is a map showing different walks but the start of the walks are not signposted.

The Jolly Sailor is a historic pub located in Porthcawl, United Kingdom. It is known for its nautical ambiance and rich history, being the oldest pub in Porthcawl. The establishment features two bars with a maritime theme and offers plenty of information about its past. Visitors can enjoy British grill and gastropub cuisine while taking in the cozy atmosphere. Additionally, the pub has received positive feedback for its friendly service and well-kept ale.
Stopped in for lunch on a very sunny October Thursday with the dog. Lovely old pub with a heavy nautical theme. Friendly staff and excellent food. My wife had the Welsh brisket and I had the Dragon curry. Both meals were plentiful and delicious. Decent enough beer selection as well. Would definitely recommend it if you're in the area.

We stopped in this busy pub to try to have a meal ands drinks, it is a lovely little pub with plenty of outdoor seating as well as the wall around the village green, we had the last table inside and the service and food were first class even though the lovely lady serving was rushed off her feet, I think this pub was well worth a visit and would highly recommend it to others.

Lovely old building, not too big to see a show. The only thing I would say is its a shame that it's not tiered seating but obviously that can't be helped. There is a small balcony which goes three quarters around the auditorium, but I think it's only about two seats deep. The ceiling is a high dome. There is a nice little cafe and bar there. Inside the auditorium there is a little kiosk that serves drinks, sweets ice creams and teas and coffees and during the interval. Sensible prices in kiosk too ( the bar wasn't especially cheap though) . Can be a little chilly at first, but warms up. Lovely friendly staff. Positioned right opposite the beach. Parking available on streets and car parks near by. If you get a chance go to Beales chip shop. You can eat in or out. Fantastic fish and fruity curry sauce. ( It s near the large car park for the fun fair).

Here's a revised version of your review for clarity and flow: --- Our friend suggested we have lunch here, so we drove from Margam Park. The view was stunning, although it was quite windy when we arrived. It was busy when we arrived, but we found a table that hadn’t been cleaned yet. We had to wait for it to be cleaned. I noticed that when the staff cleaned the table next to us, they didn’t get to ours until after we ordered from the counter and informed them. I saw the same issue at another table as well. There was a table next to us where the grandmother and mother received their food while their kid was still waiting for her meal. The same thing happened at our table; my husband and our friend received their meals, but I had to wait a few minutes. Meals should be served at the same time, or at least prioritize kids first. The service definitely needs improvement. The food was okay. The noodles I ordered tasted similar to those from supermarket, with just some salmon added.
Ian D — Google review
Was here over Half-term school holiday(Saturday). There was a hour wait for food and no tables available upstairs. Staff tried their hardest to smile but I knew it was an act. One waitress was not very sociable at all. I don’t want to return here again on a busy school holiday knowing the staff can’t cope. On a quiet day, I will return when in the area. There is a popular place for Surfers. Large car-park (£1 all-day) but again, fills quickly! A normal weekday is best for visiting!

Can’t fault this place - great views, lovely staff and excellent menu. The manager has some great banter and can’t do enough for you. Highly recommend - we travel 30 miles to go there .
Jason P — Google review
As others have said service a bit rude for some reason and food arrived at really different times for each person. Humus and flatbread (for £7!) was just poor quality humus and pitta bread. If they want to charge those prices they have to use much better quality ingredients. Burger was cooked badly and again poor for the price. Nachos and chips however were good, and nice spot for drinks. Overall better service and much better quality ingredients for me to eat here again. I'll still come for a drink after a swim though.
Dan W — Google review
Had a lovely lunch today. Chicken and bacon panini and Cappuccino were excellent. They told us there might be a 30 minute wait for food when we ordered which was fine. All the staff looked to be chilled and happy. The location was excellent - great view of the beach and the surf. Food was very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend it.

Lovely location, beautiful view of the sea, staff friendly and reasonable prices. We went on a particularly hot day and it was nice to stop for a drink and some food in the restaurant which was nice and cool with the aircon. Additionally, visitors express their eagerness to return for a pint or to enjoy moments of tranquility with friends.
No wonder people give such high reviews to this area! We visited for the first time in a very sunny evening in Early May 2018. Looks fantastic for walking and relaxation. We weren’t disappointed with a coffee and fish and chips near by! We successfully found parking as there are plenty of options even the place is full with visitors. Probably of the best cod and chips I've ever had (on a par with one I experienced in Iceland). The batter was so light and crisp whilst the fish was so fresh. Worth the 90mins drive to experience. Definitely worth a drop in for lunch and fish and chips by the sea.
Dan B — Google review
10 out of 10 . A little more than usually would pay for a chippy . However quality was A1 .. with a great attitude. Not majorly busy. Good portions and offer of xtra chips if wanted . I had the xtra large haddock but would have been OK having regular cod as size was good . Will return
Marc W — Google review
Saw this place and after researching it on my phone decided to give it a try. As shown below we ordered two regular cod and chips and one extra large cod and chips. The large one came with two pieces of cod rather than one big one which turned out to be ok as two people were sharing it anyway. Quality is really good and by current standards this is the best fish and chips I’ve had in quite some time. Chips were soft, quality potato was used and the fish batter was tasty. It’s not cheap but then I’ve wasted money on sub par fish and chips so many times that it probably adds up to hundreds. Would have given it full 5 stars but guy behind the counter completely ignored my request for Tomato ketchup and was very pushy about adding tartare sauces to my order. Each small serving you see below is £1 each. However it’s made in house and is lovely. Final verdict: this place deserves 3 cheers for keeping the dying institution of fish and chips alive.

Absolutely superb shop. The service is amazing and the quality is always outstanding. I’m genuinely excited to try the weekly takeaway dishes on Saturdays.

Absolutely love this place! Fishmongers are rare these days! So glad this one in particular is still here! It really is spectacular!! Ordered an undressed crab for us! Was absolutely delicious! Lots of coral inside too!. The oysters were top notch!!. Can't wait to visit at Easter. Order some Welsh Cockles (not yet tried). Another crab oysters and treat us to some speciality home made meals!. Only got chance to pop in towards the end of our holiday as they were closed until 31st Aug! We'll deserved time away for them I say.. hopefully will get chance for a few visits over the Easter holidays..

Trecco Bay in Porthcawl offers a spacious sandy and rocky beach with shallow swimming waters, making it perfect for families. The area is home to the massive Parkdean Holiday Park, offering modern and spacious caravans and luxury lodges that can accommodate up to eight people. The park provides an array of facilities including go-karts, restaurants, entertainment, a swimming pool, splash zone, and more.
Fantastic place for a family holiday. Our caravan was modern and spacious. The facilities on site are brilliant. The build a bear seemed ok for £15 but £10 for an item of clothing seemed ridiculous. Go karts, candy floss machines, slushies, ice cream, soft play, burger King, bowling, Wall climbing, trampolines, restaurants, entertainment, swimming pool, park, splash zone, beach, waffles, crepes, popcorn machine, arcade, chip shop, souvenir shop, pizza shop... and more. Couldn't ask for more!

On our leisure day from the coach holiday, we decided to explore the other side of Porthcawl, where there was a sandy beach and a funfair/amusement located nearby. Spent a few hours walking on the sandy beach before the tide came in observing the beautiful views and taking in the scenery. Watching the waves crash onto the rocks and seeing families play on the beach and training lifesavers in the water. We also spotted Coney Beach Amusement and Funfair, mostly all closed off but still able to walk around some of the place and has a dabble at the amusement arcades before walking on. Before hitting the bay you see the Marina and the watch out tower and surrounding shops of which we purchased drinks on a summers day...fantastic place to spend a few hours exploring and relaxing.

Shocking. Very bad security. Caravan smells of urine. Not enough bedding. Curtains did not draw closed. Can't open bedroom window. Police first night on site. Criminal activity outside campsite. Poor food in restaurant. Children enjoyed swimming pool. But that could do with a clean.

Families with children frequent this wide sandy beach, which is backed by the bustling Coney Beach Pleasure Park. The area offers various amenities such as restrooms, food stalls, and pay-and-display parking. Visitors can enjoy walks when the sea recedes and find cover from the wind along a nice wall.
A lovely sandy beach. Very clean and great for kids. When the sea is out, and it goes out quite a way, there are good walks to be had. A nice wall gives cover from the wind. Plenty of ice cream places to be had.

This is a nice calm bay. It's only small but you have all the attractions you would like for a beach(coffee, ice cream, beer and fast food). The sand is really lovely and the water is a nice colour. The water level does go up and down very far so watch your belongings. The bay doest change in height much so when the tide is in you can go far out before the water level is too high.
Emma L — Google review
A large clean beach. Plenty of pay and display car parking nearby. The sea can be quite far out and, being the Bristol Channel, it is a lovely brown colour. Lots of food stalls and several chavy pubs which are very busy on a sunny day. There are some hourses to ride on the beach and trampolines.

Fishing pier
Porthcawl Pier Fishing High Tide is a great spot for fishing, offering protection from the rain and beautiful views. While public toilets may be closed during the pandemic, there are facilities available at the restaurant on the pier. The area is known for excellent fishing, particularly for wrasse, and features an interesting RNLI shop with a view of lifeboat launches. Visitors should be cautious of high seas and stormy weather but can enjoy photography opportunities during winter storms.
Excellent fishing here, get ready for wrasse. A really nice RNLI shop staffed by little old ladies. The lifeboats launch from a building adjoining the shop by a large window which is interesting. There is also a live webcam of the pier online. Several people have been swept away in high seas so be careful as you can easily topple over the side.
Driv3r M — Google review
Great place for fishing, even if it's raining - the pier's walls protect you from the rain somewhat.. but beautiful views, and you're bound to catch a bite - even if it's just some crab. The public toilets weren't open during the current pandemic, although the restaurant towards the bottom of the pier was allowing visitors to use the restroom if needed without having to be a customer, aswell as abiding by social distancing and one-way systems. A few of the shops such as the visitors shop that sells things such as buckets, spades etc weren't open during the time also - although this can easily be obtained on the other side of the beach area within the outdoor markets. The pier doesn't have much in terms of barriers or walls however, therefore it's more recommend for older individuals such as teens/adults or elders. Unfortunately, I didn't see any bait stores or fishing gear to be rented/sold near the pier though, so it's best to bring your own with you on the trip. Although overall, it makes for a nice relaxing spot for some sea fishing, no matter the weather with a cozy restaurant and shopping area near the pier also if you want to escape the weather for a short while.

It offers a unique blend of music, art, and natural science to engage young people. The festival features low-key music that allows for easy conversation and peaceful forest camping at night. In addition to music, there are talks, walks, entertainment, and activities specifically for children. Visitors can also experience the Welsh tradition of Mari Lwyd between Christmas and New Year.

Beautiful festival in a stunning wooded setting about a 30 min walk to the beach across the dunes. Loved the combination of music/science/art/community and it's an ideal event for families with young children. Really well run and great food from the vendors. Definitely going back.

I've been to dozens of festivals including massive ones like Glastonbury etc but this one is kind of special. Hidden amongst the trees the vibe is just amazing. The chilled out music in a really relaxed surrounding is out of this world. Been twice will make it a 3rd for sure. Amazing.

This is a lovely, low key, family friendly festival. There is music, but you can still hear others when they talk to you. The forest camping was great - so peaceful at night. There are all sorts of other activities: talks, walks, entertainment and children-specific items. Check out their website if this sounds interesting.

Visitors can expect to find a huge selection of quality plants and shrubs, making it a must-visit destination for gardening enthusiasts.
So friendly with good advice. Emma was especially helpful as this was our second visit to this best kept secret place for garden plants. We will definitely be calling again.

Not a good experience at all. Had an appointment to discuss my wedding flowers. Went in very prepared and was told I would have beautiful flowers and I would get a quote that afternoon. I went away feeling happy and that was all sorted. However, I never received a quote. I phoned and just got fobbed off and no one has gotten back to me. One of my relatives popped into the shop and we have heard nothing. I have heard that they are very bad at communication and that's not good when it comes to your wedding. I would not recommend for an event!

I'm new to Porthcawl and spotted their sign on New road. I walked down the alley wondering if I was going to the right place (this ally could do with being more defined), once out the back I was very pleasantly surprised. What it may lack in quantity of variety compared to a major garden centre it makes up for in good healthy plants all reasonably priced. I'll definitely be going back.

Sker Point Fishing Mark is part of a series of beaches that extend from Sker Point to Ogmore in the coastal town of Porthcawl. Situated between Port Talbot and Ogmore by Sea, Porthcawl features a promenade constructed in 1887 to celebrate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. The promenade, which was restored in 1996, spans from Locks Common to the harbor and continues to Coney Beach and Griffin Park.
If you love sea fishing sker point is worth a visit, good fitness is needed, as its a long walk, it's a low water mark 3hour down to low, when the tide turns you have 2hour more fishing, then it's time to leave, as the tide covers the rocky peninsula.

Visitors can enjoy building stone cairns at the northern bay, observing the ever-changing sea, and indulging in traditional or modern amenities along the coast.
It is a lovely escaping place as a family and you can bring your dog also. We enjoyed this little escape and the views. I recommend it definitely as a family weekend escape. Close to the beach you have a car parking. The costs are between £2-£5. On the beach area various shops with food and ice cream, including ice cream for dogs.

I just love this place? I feel relaxed and at peace when I visit this place. It's a shame that the funfair is going to be pulled down soon for a housing development, but the front and lifeboat plus harbour are staying, and I can still go fishing here, plus the lighthouse is a great landmark, I also like eating at the cafe corner coffee next to the lifeboat station, you have to try the eggs Benedict they serve their. Totally Delicious. I will be going back very soon. 🤔👍

Public beach
Sker Beach is an impressive coastal destination that rivals those abroad. However, it is marred by a local resident who defaced a rock on the cliff top with the words "Locals only." Ironically, these locals also left their litter behind for others to deal with. In contrast, Sker Beach offers a pleasant walk through the dunes and is perfect for families, rock climbers, and dog owners. Lifeguards are present near one end of the beach, providing added safety.
I visited Sker Beach on a cloudy and misty day, which unfortunately didn’t allow me to fully appreciate its beauty. I spent most of my time in the southern, rockier part of the beach, which had a rugged charm but felt quite desolate in the gloomy weather. Looking at photos from other visitors, it’s clear that this place must be stunning on a sunny day, with its golden sands and open views. I can only imagine how breathtaking it would be under clear skies, and I hope to return someday to experience it in its full glory.
Yarys — Google review
Beautifully place wide beach. Not many people and if you lucky you will be able to enjoy people riding horses on the beach. Takes about 20 minutes to get there from the car park
Peter B — Google review
One of the best beaches before the Gower. The great joy of this beach is its vast openness and the fact you’ll very rarely see more than a few people. Little bit of a trek to get there, either through the Sand Dunes at Kenfig Nature Reserve or from Rest Bay at Porthcawl. The beach is clean, the water is part of the Bristol Channel so not the cleanest. Nudists do use the far end of the beach, so do not be offended.
Richard H — Google review
A lovely beach with a mixture of golden sand and pebbles backing onto a large complex of sand dunes. The coast path runs along the edge of the sand dunes, and the walk from Porthcawl is lovely, but you can also access the beach from Kenfig Pool car park. It is an isolated beach, so be careful when swimming. Kenfig pool is lovely and worth a visit as well.
Kevin K — Google review
A fantastic walk with outstanding views over the ocean and other bays. There are lots of places to sit and enjoy a picnic, whilst watching the surfers enjoying the waves.

What a lovely beach! Reminds me of the expansive beaches in Biscarosse, France. Only hardship was the walk to it across the sand dunes from the Kenfig Nature Reserve Centre, so if you’re looking for a beach a short distance from parking then this isn’t the one. But, definitely worth the trek!

Porthcawl Lighthouse is a historic landmark located at the end of the breakwater, offering breathtaking views of the sea, dunes, and cliffs. This iconic structure has stood since 1860 and played a crucial role in guiding ships through the Bristol Channel. With its cast iron construction and conversion to electric power in 1997, it continues to serve as a beacon for maritime safety. Visitors can enjoy scenic walks along the bay and witness the lighthouse's enduring presence amidst changing times.

Dennis H — Google review
The lighthouse marking Porthcawl Point stands at the end of the breakwater. Constructed from cast iron, stands 30ft high and was gas-powered until 1997 when it was converted to electric. The lighthouse was built in 1860, has kept shipping safe in and out of the Bristol Channel and Porthcawl marina through two world wars. In the 21st century it has a £12,000 lamp so powerful it reaches vessels between three and four nautical miles away at sea. The last coal and gas-powered lighthouse in the UK, the grade two listed building switched to using North Sea gas in 1974, before going electric in 1997. After a £70,000 renovation in 2013 the light house was fitted with its new automatic low-energy LED lamp with red, white and green lenses.
