Located within the historical setting of the villa, Castelo de San Carlos is a defensive fortification that was commissioned during the reign of King Carlos III. Dating back to the 18th century, this classic fortress now serves as a charming fishing museum. Visitors can expect an engaging experience with enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides who provide insights into traditional and modern fishing techniques. The museum offers valuable lessons on octopus fishing, underwater mapping, sonar technology, and even the origin of the foghorn.
A fascinating museum! Our fabulous guide Manolo was knowledgeable, passionate, and very funny! My boys (5 and 8) loved it and were very engaged for the duration of the lecture.

Ever wondered what it feels like to step into a 17th-century fortress with breathtaking sea views? Castelo de San Carlos in Spain is a hidden gem that transports you back in time! The sturdy stone walls and strategic coastal location tell tales of ancient battles, while the serene surroundings make it a perfect spot for history buffs and dreamers alike. Don’t miss the chance to explore its nooks and enjoy the stunning sunset from the ramparts – it’s pure magic!

Interesting defensive fortification set above the ocean, not far from heart of old Finisterre. Dates back to 18th century, the classic Fortaleza is now a charming fishing museum. While visiting the museum I encountered two docents, both very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Luckily my camino-partner speaks Spanish and I got key elements explained for me when necessary. Both guides were passionate and engaging, being humorous and asking questions of us all. Lots of "teachable' moments and laughter. The displays inside were fantastic too -- it's sort of interactive. I came away with a fair amount of know of the"old ways/days" of Finisterre's still important industry (the day's catch is auctioned daily just down the wharf) and was entertained too. Later we saw one of our guides while having a beer; he stopped and chatted with us and gave us more local history -- he's the son of a fisherman and former fisherman himself (I suspected both based on his detailed knowledge and passion). Also a great raconteur and speaker in general. Thank you, Manuel (and your fine colleague), for making our visit to the Castelo (and Finisterre) even more special.
Howard M — Google review
A very small castle that was turned into a fishing museum. It totally worth visiting and listening to what the guides have to say about the way of life of people from the area and their habits. I found it really interesting and fruitful.
George K — Google review
A captivating museum set within an enduring piece of history that recalls the crucial defensive location of Galicia. The museum itself articulates a much longer history of the fishing that has sustained these coastal communities for centuries.
Abhijit G — Google review
A relatively small castle and museum. Opens at 11am so we were too early to go inside ( €2 fee). You can walk around the right hand side and get a good external view from the rocks below the castle. Take care on the rocks.
Vincent O — Google review
This was a fascinating visit because the museum guide was a senior fisherman who explained how the fishing was done then and now. We learned about the highly intelligent octopus and how fishing them requires outwitting them. We also learned how the sound stone was used to measure depths that lead to underwater mapping and the sonar. And the origin of the foghorn. One of our most interesting Galician tours for a tiny museum.
Rhicke J — Google review
This is a very small museum dedicated to fishing. The guide, Manolo, is what made the visit 5-star. He is very knowledgeable about fishing and the history of fishing in Finisterre and is happy to answer questions. Only €2 to enter, it really is worth half an hour of your time.

Praia do Mar de Fóra is a stunning and pristine stretch of white sand that attracts sunbathers looking for a relaxing day by the sea. It is surrounded by the rugged shoreline of the Death Coast, offering a raw and wild connection with nature. The beach provides an ideal setting to witness breathtaking sunsets over the magnificent ocean, making it a popular spot for visitors year-round.
Top place to connect with raw nature, one of the best places I've ever been to. Wild and beautiful!

15 minutes away from the center of Finisterre, wild, smooth sand and clean, there are a few hiking trails around
Iulia S — Google review
Very nice beach accessible by byke. Some rocks with a mini waterfall.

Love this beach! Shell ‘sand’ so brushes off easily. Clean beach, lots of room. Good waves, although a bit cold - lovely walks around the area.

Churches & Cathedrals
Santa María das Areas is a Romanesque chapel in Finisterre, home to the revered figure of Christ known as Cristo da Barba Dourada. Legend has it that this figure was thrown overboard from a troubled boat and washed up on the town's beach. Visitors are intrigued by claims that the figure's hair and nails grow. Nearby, the ruins of the chapel of San Guillerme are said to possess magical fertility powers.
This was the best Mass I have ever attended, and I would recommend every pilgrim to go. The Mass starts punctually at 6:00 p.m., and the one I attended had only about ten people. Since most of the attendees spoke English, the Mass was conducted in English. At the end, the priest placed his hand on everyone's head and blessed each person individually. Everyone was very friendly, and the church offers stamps, which you can find at the entrance near the side door.
Shiyi B — Google review
I arrived in Finisterre @ 5pm .. my body was broken after 49Km walk that day , however I was determined to get to the pilgrims mass @6pm. And how happy was I that I attended. While mostly is Spanish ( of course) the priest did some explaining in English . He was amazing and genuinely wanted to include everyone from all nationalities in the mass. I especially enjoyed the blessing he gave to everyone individually ( as he asked us all to gather around the alter) and placed his hands on our head and said his blessing .. I had tears in my eyes as I thought of family members passed and friends who were carrying their own crosses. One of the most moving experiences of my Camino and the best way to nearly finish. After the mass, I marched up the hill ( with more energy to marker 00Km . And stayed to watch the sunset .❤️
David C — Google review
Before you go, check the operation hours In Spain, most of the places open late around 10AM, then they close at 2 PM, reopen between 5:30 - 6:00pm
Carla B — Google review
Having attended a few pilgrim masses and not understanding most of them, not even knowing which scripture verses were being read due to my lack of Spanish, I was discouraged and didn't think of attending another one except that a volunteer said earlier in the day there would be some English. It turned out to be the best pilgrim mass for me. The priest asked all the people where we are from, and started us to hum a hymn as a symbol of unity. And we all took turns to recite the Lord’s Prayer in our mother tongues. I was one of the few who managed to get one of 8 copies of the mass liturgy with English, French, Latin, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and I think Polish translations, which was really helpful (please provide more copies!). The priest also repeated his sermon (or at least part of it) in English, on top of explaining certain instructions in English. Each of us was also blessed with holy water and prayed for by the priest. I did not get to attend the pilgrim mass at Santiago but I suspect it will not top this one - this has a personal touch. This is one pilgrim mass where as a non-Spanish speaker I felt truly included and was moved by the service. Thank you.
Pei Q — Google review
Impressive chapel along the last few kilometers to Finisterre. We'll worth a quick visit.
Joseph L — Google review
The lichen-encrusted bell tower is the only clue to spotting this old church, nestled in the alleys of the old Town. It was locked and no signs of opening times. There is a Galician cross outside, with the statues of Mary and Christ on either side as usual. Just a stroll between the old, neighboring stone houses makes it a worthwhile visit.
Vincent O — Google review
The gotic signs say it can be much older. There is a very old wall close to the tower. My guess. I was inside 8/9 2019.Susanne Madera

Galician restaurant
Seafood restaurant
Nestled in the charming coastal town of Fisterra, Restaurante Tira do Cordel offers a delightful dining experience that beautifully marries traditional Galician flavors with a modern twist. This chic beachfront eatery specializes in fresh seafood, including mussels and seabass sourced from the nearby Bay of Biscay. The ambiance reflects the essence of classic Galician taverns while providing a contemporary setting for guests to enjoy their meals.
Beautiful meal. The clams and the seabass were brilliant, best we've eaten. 👏🏼 Staff were great, standoffish and cold to start, but admired and respected our terrible Spanish (English speakers). It's key to try and respect the Spanish language here. Do that and you'll be welcomed well. We finished the evening drinking schnapps with our hosts.
James P — Google review
We had diner here after watching the sunset at Cape Finisterra. We started with Almejas a la Mariñera and Percebes, followed by a delicious Lubina. To finish, we had Tarta de Manzana, which was also very good.
João S — Google review
I visited Tira do Cordel in August 2021 while visiting Finisterre and after a long morning in the beach. The experience is completely amazing (if you enjoy seafood, as this is their main offering). I ordered “Percebes” which you order per gram and they were simply incredible. Every piece was like having sea-flavor bites. I continued with some “Navajas”, which I really enjoyed and they are SO fresh (they catch them in the beach nearby). Do not forget to use their amazing bread to absorb all the beautiful juices of this amazing dish. I ended the experience with 400-500 grams of “Lubina”, their speciality and recommended by the waiter. I didn’t have dessert as I wanted to keep all the sea flavors while driving back to the hotel 😉
Juan M — Google review
This place is recommended in Michelin guide and it was the most disappointing experience in our trip to Galicia. Zamburiñas looked not good on the plate and they tasted not fresh. We had to return them to the kitchen (we were not charged for this dish). The fish was ok, but we did not find it so special as in all online reviews and we had a much better experience in other places in Galicia. We did not like the ambience neither, the place was crowded, next to us there was a VERY loud family with small kids that were shouting all the time. Parents started to take them outside to try to calm them down, but pointing them to the windows to entertain the rest of the family. I do not know how this place got recommended by Michelin guide, it is a regular tourist place, very crowded during lunch, with average to poor quality of food. I will not recommend it to any of my friends travelling to Galicia.
Yulia Y — Google review
Very fresh fish and seafood. Excelent experience, everything very well prepared and really good service.
Elisabet F — Google review
One of the best restaurants on our trip (in the face of extremely stiff competition) - beautiful simply prepared seafood, great house wine, incredible view, fantastic service
Mindy H — Google review
We had a drink here on the way to the lighthouse in Finistere. Lovely building with tables on the terrace overlooking the beach.
Derek B — Google review
Unfortunately the guy at the bar was really rude to us as pilgrims... asking right at the front what we want ... if we only want a snack or coffee he would have no space for us. Treating people with hiking gear who are willed to spend money like this makes no sense. Especially if it is right at the camino. It is a shame for this place.

Best meal we’d in Spain. The seafood is so fresh and so delicious! The way they cooked the scorpion fish is perfect in enhancing the taste and texture of the fish. Roman also made our visit unforgettable

Good spot for some seafood. Staff was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. Food is fresh, so not everything will be available all the time. If you can, make sure to try their fresh clams.
Jan K — Google review
Without doubt the best fish and seafood restaurant in Finisterre! They are only open from 12:00 to 16:00, so come and enjoy an amazing midday meal!
James C — Google review
This place is the best! After the Camino this is the best place to hang out, celebrate and enjoy the view and enjoy fabulous food and a beer! Glorious local food - fish, calamari and prawns!!!
Jacqueline K — Google review
Found this place thx to Google reviews, but also accidentally picked this exact place for a drink while walking the local area on the way to a supermercado... Great daytime location for fresh fish of the day or a local seafood sampler... and got to try the galician percebas which was yummy. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly, no complaints from this Foodie...

As Pellegrinos and into seafood, O Pirata was not a maybe but a must be for us when we walked from Santiago de Compostela to Finisterra. It's in a picture perfect location overlooking the port. It's been a few years now but I just had to come back and write this review You definitely won't be disappointed.

Nestled by the picturesque harbor, Restaurante O Centolo is a charming eatery that offers an unforgettable dining experience. With stunning views of Mount Pindio, this restaurant specializes in delectable seafood dishes, including their famous rice with lobster and fresh sea bass. The highlight here is undoubtedly the spider crab, which pays homage to the restaurant's name. Nice food, and service. Fresh seafood Very good location with sea view Price a bit high range
Yunjung J — Google review
It is a very nice restaurant, it has two floors. We had a coffee and a pastry after lunch. They opened at 8:30 PM for dinner. We sat at the first floor in a covered terrace with the port view. They brought up croquettes to start that were delicious. We got calamari with french fries with aïoli and lime for dipping. The calamari was a little bit too dry and the french fries two fried. We also got white wine and they gave us a Ribeiro. It is a soft, sweet wine that I particularly enjoyed. The main dish was a seafood paella (paella de marisco). It was a little bit too salty. But the amount we got was enough for two for dinner. The service staff was very attentive and kind. There was a table with two very drunk man that were obnoxiously loud and somehow aggressive. I personally felt very uncomfortable because no nobody in the staff did anything so I decided to leave early dinner.

Live seafood tank give it’s freshness feeling. Located at seafront, it has 2 floors. Top floor restaurant and ground floor with tapas menu. Everything was delicious, razor clams, cockles and lobster. Also ordered garlic octopus with prawns, prawns were a bit overcooked but all good. Service was super friendly and attentive

A beautiful place with an amazing ocean view. I had the best lobster in my life. It was huge and tasted magnificent. The appetizers were great. The Paella was outstanding. The grilled sea bass was so fresh. The service was really outstanding. The owner checked on us to make sure everything was fine. I would greatly recommend this place for sea food lovers.

It’s clear they are aiming for Michelin stars. The service and food are very good, and the surrounding views are especially beautiful. The wine pairing, however, didn’t feel like a perfect match with the dishes for me.

Outstanding. Had lunch here once and dinner twice over 4 days, says it all on the quality of this place. All regionally sourced food and drink. Perfectly cooked burgers and sandwiches, excellent range of options and flavours. 10/10 from me and wish they set one up in Ireland! One of my favourite meals throughout the Camino. Thanks to Etel and the team, keep up the good work.

We were very fortunate to come across this delightful little place. We had lunch on the first occasion and eve meal on second. Mainly burger with good quality ingredients. I had a mackerel burger (wonderful!), my husband had a beef burger (wonderful). Both also had fabulous local bread and the large salad we shared was outstanding too. It was packed with fresh ingredients- all the ones I love - avocado, the sweetest fresh tomatoes, walnuts, seeds lettuce and local crumbly cheese , bit like feta but nicer. So good we went there the following evening after we’d watched the sunset up at Fisterre lighthouse. The staff were lovely (husband works evenings and wife during day as have two young children). Such a lovely place with fresh, local ingredients. Wine and beer good too. We highly recommend Etel & Pan. I’m sure you won’t be disappoint.

Restaurante Terra in Fisterra offers an exceptional fine dining experience with food that meets rigorous quality standards. The chefs' creativity and passion are evident in every dish, making it a must-visit restaurant for anyone in the area. The desserts are especially delicious and should not be missed. It is advisable to book in advance due to its popularity. This Michelin-starred establishment is located in the heart of Fisterra and offers delicious cuisine at reasonable prices.
Beautiful food. Wonderful staff. Added the wine pairing and cheeses - well worth both. We will be back on our next visit to Fisterra.

One of the best restaurants in Galicia, better than paradores and other traditional options. We looked for very good local products with a modern twist. Visiting cape Finisterre is worth even if it is only to eat at Terra. 9 course menu for 70 eur + drinks. The staff is impeccable. They speak top English so they were able to explain everything perfectly. We loved the texture of all fish and specially the mussels with kimchi, they grow everything with local Galician products, included the kimchi with local cabbage. Also the home made seeds ice cream with Japanese Koji sauce. They adapted everything gluten-free and for non-meat, pescetarian diet. Try the gluten-free corn bread, it is home baked, best gluten free bread I had in my life. One of the best modern Galician cuisine restaurants. A must to visit if you are in Galicia and specially in Coruña or Finisterre. Make a reservation as theyare often fully booked. Sit at the counter, it is a great chance to get explanations first hand from the cooking staff who are most polite, friendly and knowledgeable.

Small restaurant, that uses local ingredients and wine. Menu contains sourdough bread, fish, seafood, meat and desserts. I tried menu course with wine pairing. I’m happy that I visited this place at the end of my Camino. It was interesting diner. The best for me were tofu ice cream with sunflower seeds.
Nastia S — Google review
From the moment we arrived the service was impeccable. Don't expect a menu as everything is cooked fresh daily depending on the ingredients available to the kitchen. Every dish was executed perfectly with some unique combinations and deservedly michelin star quality. 1 star isn't enough.
Hamish J — Google review
The dinner we had at Terra was worth the trip from Porto. The service was very attentive and professional. While the food was quite good, what made our dinner special was the wine pairings. They complemented the dishes perfectly and we loved the fact that they were all (with the exception of one really good wine from Alentejo in Portugal) from small producers in Galicia. The dessert wine was a micro-production of only 50 bottles and it did not even have a label on it. This is exactly what we expect from wine pairings, which is unfortunately a rare find. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I am in the area, and might make a 2nd trip just to visit the restaurant again. Amazing value!

Cooking the environment in a very personal way at the end of the world, ‘Terra’ from ‘Finisterra’ offers a tasting menu based on local product and simple but tasty elaborations. Young team, kind service and well selected wine range with focus on small galician winemakers.

Our family had a delightful evening dining at this Michelin-starred restaurant. We were served 12 magical courses featuring local vegetables, meats, and fish. Each dish was a masterpiece, but the seafood and risotto were particularly outstanding. We were especially impressed by the service. The waitstaff were exceptionally professional and discreet, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for both adults and our teenage son. One memorable moment was when our son left his asparagus untouched, and the waiter gently asked, “Did we prepare it incorrectly?” We were genuinely touched by this thoughtful gesture—it’s well known how tricky vegetables can be with teenagers! We smiled and reassured him, “Don’t take it personally.” I wholeheartedly recommend this place as a must-visit destination.

Superior food in a chill, relaxing spot steps from the harbor. All ingredients sourced from local region and every course was better than the next. Great, unpretentious service and served at a relaxed pace. I loved it. Favorite was the bonita tuna, hake and leg of lamb. Delicious, unique alternative to other places in town.

Lighthouses
Faro de Fisterra, also known as the Lighthouse at Land's End, is a picturesque 56-ft. lighthouse perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean. It is a popular tourist spot, so parking can be challenging, especially in summer. Visitors recommend arriving early or being prepared to walk from a nearby parking area. The views from the lighthouse are breathtaking, with crashing waves against the rocks creating a serene atmosphere.
Faro de Finisterre is a peaceful, rugged spot at the most western point of mainland Europe. It’s traditionally considered the final stop on the Camino de Santiago, and there’s even a bronze boot sculpture near the lighthouse to mark the end of the journey. When we visited, it was cloudy with the sun peeking through, which gave everything a calm, moody feel. Pretty windy too, even in July, so worth bringing a jacket. The lighthouse is simple, and the cliffs dropping into the ocean make for some dramatic views. It’s not overly crowded, and there’s a reflective vibe that fits the location. If you’re nearby or finishing the Camino, it’s a good place to take it all in.
Summer A — Google review
What a wonderful view There's plenty of parking after you see everyone else park, you can go all the way to the lighthouse. There's a restaurant and a hotel there. The restaurant is only for the hotel. There's also a cafe and a bar where you can get drinks and souvenir shop to get trinkets, bathrooms plenty of space to get your sunset photos. Don't worry about getting there too early. We were there too early and had to leave before sunset.
Keith B — Google review
beautiful vews from the end of the world. I lucked into a perfectly sunny day with no clouds in the sky. There were lots of tourists everywhere. The gift shop had lots of souvenirs and clothing. Great food at the cafe and restaurant. there was a line up to get your picture taken at the 0km marker but the line was not too long. overall a great experience.
Mark S — Google review
If you have time, a visit to Finisterre is very rewarding. I walked there from Santiago but if you don't have a lot of time left there is a great bus service by Monbus that can get you there very inexpensively. Whether you walk as I did, or take the bus, you will be glad that you didn't skip Finisterre, the end of the world.
Rick C — Google review
We were lucky that we got sunshine for our visit so we could see the sunset. Its well worth going to of you can and there was food and drinks at the top too!
Roisin D — Google review
The Finisterre Lighthouse (in Galician Faro de Fisterra) is one of the most iconic and evocative places in Spain, located on the extreme tip of the Costa da Morte in Galicia. Visiting the Finisterre Lighthouse is like getting to the end of the world. Literally. The Romans called it Finis Terrae, convinced that beyond that point there was only the ocean and the mystery. Even today, this 1853 lighthouse, 17 meters high and located 143 meters above sea level A, retains a mystical aura that fascinates travelers and pilgrims. Moreover, it is the final stage of the Camino de Santiago Many pilgrims, after reaching Santiago de Compostela, extend their journey to Finisterre. Here, in front of the ocean, are the 0.00 km ceppo and a single bronze boot (the other has been stolen), symbols of an inner and spiritual journey B. The lighthouse dominates a wild and powerful landscape, where the waves crash against the cliffs and the wind tells ancient stories. It is easy to understand why this area has been the scene of numerous shipwrecks, but also a source of inspiration for poets and travelers. The Finisterre Lighthouse is not just a geographical point: it is a place of the soul. If you are looking for silence, beauty and a feeling of infinity, this is the right place. It’s not just a visit: it’s an experience.

The Faro de Fisterra is a stunning spot with breathtaking ocean views and a sense of peaceful remoteness. Standing at what feels like the “end of the world” is truly special. The walk up is beautiful, and the sunsets are unforgettable. Definitely worth the visit!

Amazingly tasty fried food! We arrived in big group, the staff was so kind and made a big table for us. We odered different tapas for all of us- everything, honestly, everything tasted amazing! Prices are good as well. It is kind of a homemade fast food, so do not expect too high class restaurant. Worth to visit!

There’s a lot of quality fish restaurants to choose from. This is outstanding as the ultimate fast food establishment. Steamed muscles, giant prawns, very fresh squid. Excellent value for simply prepped very fresh seafood. Sangria on tap but good wines by the glass of bottle. Order from the counter just like a Big Mac but so so not.

Love the place, been here last year and this year around 5-6 times. It offers a wide variety of fish and seafood for a reasonable price. You pay and order at the counter and pick up the food when it’s ready which makes everything fast and efficient, nevertheless the staff is very helpful when it comes to translations, recommendations or answering questions. Location is beautiful right at the Harbor with nice views

Vegetarian cafe and deli
Vegan restaurant
The World Family, a vegetarian cafe and deli, stands out in a land dominated by fish and meat. It offers a delightful ambiance and food that comes highly recommended for those tired of the traditional Spanish omelet stuffed with potatoes. The menu includes guacamole with chips, various sauces, veg burgers, and an enticing platter of 6 homemade falafel served on a bed of green salad with nuts and seeds.
Hippies Rule!! The vibe of restaurant is perfect for Finisterre. The vegan burger, vegan Poke bowl and especially huge soup of the day was perfect. It is so difficult to find fresh vegan food in Spain. Loved the owner and service

Best spot in town, came back multiple times. The poke bowl is outrageously delicious. Staff is SO friendly and great eclectic vibe. A MUST DO! Recommended the poke bowl to a couple next to us on our second evening and they said it was the best food they’ve had since they left AUS on May 1, it’s May 27th!

Never again In September 2025, I had the misfortune of visiting the World Family Bar in Fisterra for dinner. The experience was far from pleasant. Upon arrival, it was immediately apparent that the bar was in chaos. Several guests were visibly intoxicated, behaving loudly and aggressively. There was no effort made by anyone to calm the situation or ensure the safety of the patrons. The owner himself was heavily drunk, adding to the mayhem. Instead of managing the situation, he was parading around in a black top hat, attempting to play a violin poorly. His focus was solely on his own performance, completely disregarding the chaos unfolding around him. The staff were visibly overwhelmed and seemed helpless. Behind the bar, employees struggled to work efficiently due to the lack of available drinks. Many items on the menu were unavailable because the necessary ingredients were missing, leading to numerous orders being unable to be fulfilled. The hygiene conditions were appalling. In the restroom, there was no toilet paper, no toilet seat, and no soap. The floor was covered in urine, and the smell was unbearable. This level of neglect was completely unacceptable. In summary, the experience was marked by aggressive guests, a drunken and self-absorbed owner with no control, overwhelmed staff, unreliable food and drink options, and disgusting sanitary facilities. The bar is currently in a state that is simply intolerable. For me, it's clear: I will never return.

Hostal Memorias de Sophia is a charming accommodation located in Fisterra, just 600 meters from Da Ribeira Beach. The property offers a cozy and comfortable stay with high-quality amenities. Guests are welcomed with warmth and hospitality, making them feel like visiting good friends while enjoying the comforts of a hotel. The hosts provide delicious homemade breakfast and local tips for exploring the area. Despite having only four rooms, the space is efficiently utilized to allow storage of clothes and luggage without compromising comfort.
Many people recommended it, so I decided to go, and it was amazing. I regret only staying for one night. A lovely family. An exceptionally clean room. A heartfelt breakfast. (The omelette tastes better than at a restaurant.) Bedding and mattress better than at a hotel. A fragrant room with a subtle scent of wood. I had the best sleep in a long time. Next time I go to Fisterra, I will definitely stay for at least two nights. Don't hesitate to make a reservation.

For someone that had been on the Camino for over 50 days, it was wonderful to still feel the spirit of the Camino here in Finisterre with Jorge and Solange. My only regret was not staying here for longer. The hotel itself is modern, well-decorated, and comfortable, but it’s really Jorge and Solange’s heart that make this place so special. (Translated by Google) "THE HERMITAGE" OF SAN GUILLERMO or The "Nerio Promontory" mentioned by Ptolemy, which is supposed to be located here with an Ara Solis or Solar Altar: "Post Nerium Promontorium, aliud Promontorium in quo Solis Arae". From this place, the first inhabitants of Ireland, who sailed from here, also built the temple of the sun, and could also divine the change of season. The solstice and the equinox. It is also known as The Ark of Time, where couples conceived. It is one of the places where time merges with legends and tradition. The macabre union of Orca Vella and the enchanted shepherd evokes the popular tradition of fertility and fecundity that took place very close to here, in the hermitage of San Guillermo, as recorded by the Leonese Martín Sarmiento in his Journey to Galicia of 1745. Sarmiento wrote: From Finisterre, I went to see, and worshiped, the Holy Christ, who is at the foot of the cape, and is very devout and decent. Then I went up the cape on foot (after noon) and reached the hermitage of San Guillermo, which is very bad, and San Guillermo made of stone dressed as an Augustinian. The one who was guiding us showed us in the hermitage the place where, not long ago, there was a basin or stone bed, in which husband and wife would sleep, and, being sterile, they turned to the saint and to that hermitage; and there before the saint they generated. And because it was such an indecorous thing, it was ordered, by visit, to remove that large stone, basin or bed, and the contest was removed. El Pindo belongs to the Marqués de la Sierra, and he has leased it to him for pasture and it is worth a lot to him. There is no place in it, there is only excellent pastures, and good waters. They say a thousand things about what is inside: "that the grass grows a lot at night and in the morning, there are infinite medicinal herbs and many unknowns, and that some doctors go to look for them there; that animals are very frequent inside, and I heard that some times sterile and infertile married people used to go to Pindo in order to have succession, just as I said about the hermitage of San Guillermo in Finisterre. If you don't know it, put this site in your agenda. Try to go with time. Don't stock up on many things for the climb, and enjoy the moment, because the path is initiation, you will have to let go of what you know, to learn new knowledge. Remember when you arrive, humbly pray to your God, being grateful for what you have. Respect the site, it is a sacred place long before man built cathedrals!

Cementerio de Finisterra de Cesar Portela is a unique and picturesque cemetery, often described as an "empty movie cemetery." It was designed with the idea of providing fishermen with a view of the sea even after death. The location is nestled in nature, adding to its serene and peaceful ambiance. Visitors find it worth seeing due to its beautiful and tranquil setting.
(Translated by Google) César Portela designed a concept in 1995 and rethought the cemetery. He used classic elements of Spanish funeral culture and transferred them into modern times. It was built in 1998, but for reasons unknown to me it was never put into operation. In short: an empty cemetery with no dead people. 14 cubes (I can't think of a better name in German), immersed in nature, distributed, hidden or well integrated. Many Spanish cemeteries tend to blight the landscape. Sorry for this statement, they are at intersections, motorway intersections, ... for me they are often not a place of contemplation and quiet remembrance. It's different here. At the edge of the road that leads to the end of the pilgrim path, to the famous Kilometer Zero, just before the lighthouse, there is a small green sign on the left that says cemetery. If you follow the path down there is a lot of nature, pine trees & ferns and always the sea. At the top there is a chapel, a farewell room. Further down are the isolated rectangles of pink granite. Scattered on 2 levels, not in a line, but systematically thrown like dice. A small staircase leads to each cube. If you go up this you will reach a small depression that protects you from both the sun and the rain. Stay safe from the strong winds here. You can see 12 chambers on 4 levels. There are a total of 2 rows on 2 levels. Always slightly offset so that you cannot look from one cube to the other, so your privacy remains protected. But you always have a view of the sea. For me a place of peace and contemplation. Of relaxation. How fitting to locate such a conclusion (of life) at the 'end of the world'. Apparently it's far too innovative for traditional Galicia. Unfortunately, there is hardly any reliable information about why the cemetery, which was actually architecturally and structurally finished, was never put into operation. The assumption that this place is difficult for those who remain to reach by car seems to be one important reason. Here in Galicia people like to drive even the smallest distances and the narrow road is always congested in summer. The star architect César Portela was too innovative and ahead of his time and did not take into account the traditional perspective of the local residents and probably failed mainly because of their lack of insight. It's a shame that this site wasn't made available to other interested parties. Creating an appropriate setting for death in natural surroundings is a challenge that few modern architects have taken on. For me personally, a convincing approach, unfortunately obviously in the wrong place. Many outstanding artists have been thwarted over the centuries. The architect's failure due to circumstances should honor him rather than anger him. Maybe posterity will one day understand and appreciate the actual greatness of the concept. There are still too many small minds even today. I not only take my hat off to the artist, but also recommend that anyone interested in art form their own opinion. To climb the steps of a cube & sit quietly on the steps & let your eyes and mind wander. An all around sublime place. Thank you for this unusual work & bravo. There should be many more such places of peace. The place is actually correctly called Cimenterio del Fin de la Tierra. It is on the unofficial pilgrimage route (Way of St. James). The latter dates back to the 13th century. The pilgrimage officially ends in Santiago. But even then, many pilgrims wanted to see the end of the world and were curious. This is how the path to the fictitious kilometer zero came about. Today I passed by some Galician cemeteries and took a closer look at them. Stone, concrete & plastic flowers are definitely NOT more attractive than this cemetery embedded in nature.

(Translated by Google) If you go towards the Finisterre Lighthouse, a kilometer before reaching the right you will find a somewhat special enclave, some concrete cubes that can be distinguished among the vegetation of the place, it is a Cemetery with no one buried, it has been like this for more than 25 years, According to the person who designed it, it was to provide a privileged resting place for the dead, which is curious to say the least, taking into account that the Finisterre Cemetery is just over 2 kilometers from this place.
