Lagoa, where Porches is located, has a rich history dating back to the Islamic and medieval periods.
Our guide Jonny took us here. It is amazing. A must stop. Hand pained. You can watch the ladies paint. So amazing and very charming. You can grab a bite or drink too. I wanted to buy everything in the store.

Beautiful. Shop both inside and out with the garden area. And the store itself without the display and the hand made Portugese pottery.

Top of potteries we visited in this region (and we visited 10+ places). Here you are sure you are buying handmade and not Chinese print. Recommended

This place is magical. The shop was beautiful with so many amazing pieces to choose from and the cafe had delicious coffee and food (best coffee we had in Portugal actually). We came back the next day just to enjoy the cafe again. This place was definitely a highlight of our trip and would 10/10 recommend.

Porces Pottery is a local pottery studio where they make beautiful handmade pottery. You can find stunning pieces on display, all signed and dated on the bottom. We could not leave empty-handed!
Jurian R — Google review
Such a beautiful story behind this stunning store. Owned by two sisters for over 59 years! They were painting whilst we were shopping. Some stunning pieces all signed and dated on the bottom. We spent at least 40 mins looking around. Fantastic customer service

If you like Portuguese Pottery you will love Porches Pottery. You can watch their gorgeous creations be painted right in front of you. Beautiful things. You will not leave empty handed. I would recommend shopping here first so as to be sure to leave room in your carry-on.

Lovely local pottery studio, ran by a group of artists. A lot of selection of different products. There seemed to be a cafe being built when we visited, which would be lovely to have a cup of coffee in.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Chapel Nossa Senhora da Rocha is a must-visit in Lagoa e Carvoeiro, Algarve. Perched on stunning cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Praia Nova and Senhora da Rocha beaches, it offers an enchanting location. While its construction date remains unknown, it's a historic church with a beautiful spot of remembrance outside. The area is popular for weddings, with an average waiting time of around 3 years for a slot.
My brother married his husband here just over 2 weeks ago now. The ceremony was right near the cliff edge, just passed the little chapel. It was an absolutely gorgeous, hot & sunny day. The views were stunning.

What a delightful find, so peaceful and beautiful. I loved all the shells people have attached to the building and surrounding trees with messages of love ❤️

We recently had the pleasure of attending a friend’s wedding, and the Lady of the Rock truly didn’t disappoint. The setting was absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. Our friends added some lovely personal touches to the area, but I’m certain this place would be just as stunning, wedding or not!
Michael B — Google review
Nice little chapel with the most beautiful location - scenic-wise. Come here for tranquil walk and enjoy the spectacular view you can get here of the beautiful coastline that Algarve can offer...
Kim A — Google review
Nice little place to visit for about 30 minutes to an hour. We visited on a private tour of the area .It's a very popular setting for weddings. There are also lovely views of the nearby beaches.
Derek B — Google review
A great spot for photos with a beautiful view! Unfortunately, there was a wedding taking place during our visit, but we still managed to snap a few nice pictures. It’s definitely a fun place to stop by and check off your list while exploring the coast.

Stunning view, very picturesque location!
Krzysztof K — Google review
Beautiful place with an amazing view. Very popular for weddings, I've heard from a local guide that the average awaiting time for a wedding slot is around 3 years. Plenty of parking spaces just a few meters in front of the chapel.

Praia de Nossa Senhora da Rocha, located near Lagoa in the Algarve region, is a picturesque and well-known beach. Its name translates to 'Lady of the Rock,' derived from the pretty whitewashed chapel perched on a cliff overlooking the sea. The chapel's origins are believed to date back to as early as the 8th century during historical occupations of the region.
Lovely view, you have to try it, I definitely comming back....

Such a beautiful beach 🤩 golden sands, stunning cliffs, turquoise waters and a cave that leads you to another beach!! There is a restaurant and bar, as well as a snack shop. The only reason I haven't given it 5* is because I have been to A LOT of beaches and want to save my 5* for my absolute favourites.
Chelsey S — Google review
Absolutely beautiful beach - though tbh all here are - has a little Chapel that's worth a visit, great for some scenic pics. Beach is sand/small shell bits and comfy to walk/lay on. Kayaks etc can be hired ...but really this is a great beach to sunbath, relax or for the kids to play.
Chris P — Google review
This is a great little beach near the Ukino Palmerias Village hotel. On the day we were there the waves were crashing and we discovered if you go out there is a sudden dip so definitely need to be careful with kids. There's a cave that takes you through to another beach, it's really cool to go through. The only reason I rated down is the strange sand. It's a bit like kinetic sand. It's not great for building sandcastles. But we all had a good time so worth a visit.
Graeme L — Google review
Beautiful beachside very typical beach for the Algarve coast in Portugal. Sunbeds are 16€ per Person for an afternoon, which is a bit pricey for these kind of sunbeds (very simple).
Nadine F — Google review
Worth every step to get to and back to this beach. Would recommend getting there early as parking is not easy. Nice little beach bar and cafe for refreshments.
Ignus F — Google review
Nice little spot to visit if you're passing through the area. You can access the beach which has a restaurant but make sure you bring cash as it doesn't accept cards. Views are great and also has a walking path but I was in sliders so didn't give that a go!
Louis E — Google review
Lovely beach. Has a beach bar but a bit pricey. Sand is hot but there is a cool strip near the sea. Lounges and parasols are available for hire as is boats, jetskis, pedloes etc. Little tunnel to the right that goes through to another beach.

Beach
Praia Nova is a picturesque beach located near the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Rocha, offering stunning views and a serene atmosphere. With its light sand and sapphire blue waters, it's an ideal spot for unwinding and connecting with nature. The beach is relatively small, ensuring a peaceful setting away from large crowds. Visitors can enjoy activities such as morning jogging, meditation, or leisurely walks while admiring colorful shells scattered along the shore.
Excellent beach, clean, broad and long, with good access via stairs. No services (no WC) so bring your own. Gorgeous view of surrounding cliffs, tiny church up top. Great place to escape crowds (if you like), although in summer, might be a zoo. December 2024, nobody there, just you and seagulls.
Steven W — Google review
Really nice and quiet beach - a little small, but location is great and you can have a nice walk along the riffs surrounding the beach area. It is a little tricky to walk down the narrow stairs to get to the beach, so watch your steps. Definitely worth a visit to come here and bonus tip - a small little church at the end, where you also find a lot of parking, if you come by car.
Kim A — Google review
Praia Beach is a real gem! The sand is golden, the water is crystal clear, and it has a lovely mix of quiet spots and areas with a bit more buzz. One of the best features is the tunnel that takes you through the rock to the other side – it feels like a little adventure and opens up to another stretch of beautiful coastline. Great for photos, a bit of exploring, and enjoying something a little different. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!
Melanie H — Google review
I recently visited this small beach that has instantly become my all-time favorite. Nestled away from the bustling crowds, this hidden gem offers a serene and calm atmosphere that is perfect for unwinding and reconnecting with nature. The beach may be petite in size, but its intimate setting ensures it never gets overcrowded. What sets this beach apart is its exceptional sea and sand quality, making it one of the finest in Europe. The crystal-clear waters invite you for a refreshing swim, while the soft, golden sand is ideal for strolling barefoot or simply basking in the sun. The beauty of this beach lies in its simplicity, providing a true escape from the daily hustle and bustle. Whether you seek solitude or a peaceful retreat with loved ones, this beach promises an unforgettable experience. Embrace the tranquility, soak up the sun, and allow yourself to be captivated by the sheer beauty that surrounds you.
Tiago S — Google review
Really nice. Great for staying on the sand, great water and not full of algae or rocks. Really recomend although the access is hard (only through stairs)
Leonardo T — Google review
Stunning beach - the cliffs, the colours, the white little chapel at the top. So, so beautiful!
Carolina K — Google review
Great beach. Not crowdy (at least in September). Yes the water is quite cold, but it’s the ocean and it’s very refreshing because the sun is no joke here.
何瑾瑜 — Google review
A perfect beach for morning jogging, meditation or just a simple walk, lots of colorful shells and absolute peace in the off-season and early hours of the day. It is worth walking all the way between the rocks if low tide allows. At sunrise, the light paints amazing landscapes here ...

Praia do Carvalho is a charming small beach located near Lagoa and Carvoeiro. It features golden sands surrounded by cliffs, creating a cozy and secluded atmosphere. The crystal-clear aquamarine waters are perfect for snorkeling, although swimmers should be cautious due to strong currents and deep waters close to the shore. Accessible through a tunnel with uneven steps, reaching this beach requires some effort but adds to its magical ambiance.
Such a hidden gem!!! Great beach that you can easily access through stairs. Not too windy and has great sunlight. 100% recommend. It feels like you’re finding a secret beach in between the rocks. You can stop by during your hiking or park your car in the parking lot.
Mathilde L — Google review
Beautiful beach, we took the little hike up the stairs on the cliffs to get there, there's two sets of stairs (entrances) on each side to get down, one is easier than the other. Going through the man made tunnels and stairs gave us a little thrill. Beautiful view, no words can describe the magic of this place.
Angelica R — Google review
Great beach, can be super busy in high season. I went in August. The best bit about this beach is the cliff jumping although the ones to the right of the beach are kind of closed. There is a sign saying €500 fine if you go round the little fence they have put up. It didn't deter most people though as there were people doing it still. On the left of the beach there is a larger cliff with no signs saying you can't jump so thats the one I did. Only around 10m's high so not too bad.
Rob A — Google review
Probably once an edyllic beach, but these days are gone. Overcrowded by tourists and people who bother you trying to sell things. Very noisy due to the constant stream of tourist boats and jetskies that come to drive fullspeed through the echoing caves. Also those boats disturb the waves and wash up the algae making the water and beach dirty and full of algae.
Christian — Google review
Great beach! A lot of stairs so beware. And in August it’s very crowded.
Elena L — Google review
It is a very particular beach. It is surrounded by the cliffs and it looks really nice but it was extremely full of algae and that were mosquitoes and insects because of the algae on the sand that occupied a lot part of the beach. It was smelly. I guess the algae is cleaned in the summer because it looked very different that on the pictures. After 16:00 only a third of the sand has sun and the rest is under the shadows.
Irene A — Google review
So cool to walk down to the beach through the tunnel of stairs carved out of the Limestone cliff. The parking lot is extremely close as well, so it’s not like other beaches which you need to park kms away. Definitely do this. A great option for you if want a beach day with something that isn’t a typical “walk up”
James A — Google review
Went here to swim before going back to Sweden tomorrow. Unfortunately it the wind was blowing from the south so the beach was covered with black stuff. I still think it’s one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve seen in Europe. Better luck next time

Hiking Trails
The Percurso dos Sete Vales Suspensos, also known as the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail, is a 6 km coastal route in Portugal that offers breathtaking views of sea arches, stacks, and golden beaches. This trail has been recognized as one of the best hiking trails in Europe and is popular among hikers of all ages.
What an awesome place to go for a hike. This path goes along the coast side and you really get to see first hand how beautiful it is here. If the weather is warm, you should probably be sure to bring enough water because the is no shade to hide and also be sure to wear some good hiking shoes, as the terrain is quite hard/rocky and not many "flat areas" to tread so careful. Very beautiful hike and highly recommended!
Kim A — Google review
Hike with beautiful breath taking views of the coast! I hiked to the cave and back. The cave was honestly under whelming, you can't see the water. The other sights on the hike was worth it! Parking is challenging, the road was closed off and we ended up finding street parking 20min away from the entrance. Water closets and food trucks (that take credit card) are by entrance. Take plenty of water. Close to cave on the hike was a vendor selling water and soft drinks.
Toni S — Google review
Beautiful views on an enjoyable and very scenic hike! The trails are well established but you do want running shoes or hikers on (ideally). Also, most of the walking is fitting for most ages but if you want to get a bit more adventurist, which you absolutely can, you will need good balance and reasonably strong legs.
James A — Google review
A must do experience in the Algarve. Well worth doing the out and back hike of about 12k. The views on this hike are spectacular. As long as you have proper runners or hiking shoes it’s a reasonable trail. Our only disappointment is the amount of garbage people leave along the trail, particularly at rest sights, truly shameful! Took us just over 4 hours with stops for pictures and quick lunch. Highly recommend!
Gary M — Google review
Beautiful coastal hike. Not a difficult trail, but it is rocky, so wear tennis shoes or hiking shoes. Not much shade along the trail. Look for the red and yellow lines that mark where the trail goes. It's about 4 miles one way, which we did in 3 hours with plenty of stops to take photos. If you want to do one way, take a taxi or bus back to where you started. Otherwise it's about 8 miles out and back.
Katie G — Google review
This hike is a MUST do! At first I thought it was more of a walk but that was only a mile in. We did it just one way. We parked at the exit and then took a Bolt to the start. The beginning of the trail had the most epic view of the cliffs. I was blown away. The first mile took us awhile to get through because we were just ping-ponging back and forth to the beautiful spots. The hike was really well marked at the beginning as far as paths went but as we got closer to the end it got harder. There are quite a few stairs and steep inclines to go up and down. I would say doable. Just take your time and use the excuse that you are ‘soaking up the views’. Enjoy the hike and take in the views from above.
Kenzie W — Google review
Went on this magical hike with my daughter at dawn and the gift nature gave us yesterday morning was just indescribable. The view were breathtaking, the trail was easy to follow with just the right amount of incline for a decent workout without physical risk. Almost anyone can do this and absolutely love it. We encountered a few dogs on the trail and even they were happy. By the way, two big suggestions: 1. We went early (7:30am) meaning easy to park and very few people on the trail for the first 90 mins. 2. We parked in Benagil in order to have the advantage of doing half of the trail out-and-back, and reserving the choice to stop or continue….oh, and we continued because it was so damn beautiful. Enjoy!
David L — Google review
It’s an easy trail for people with good mobility but I did see a lot of elderly people who struggled at parts. There are a few ups and downs where you may need to climb so be mindful of that. Fews are incredible.

Theme park
Sand City, known as the largest sand sculpture theme park in the world, covers 6 hectares and features over 90 larger-than-life sand sculptures created by various artists using around 50,000 tons of sand. The sculptures depict scenes from history, culture, art, sport, music, gastronomy, nature and personalities. Visitors can leisurely stroll along the paths during the day to admire these creations and return after dark with the same ticket to see them illuminated with colorful lighting.
Really don't get the negative/low star reviews! You can't please everyone I guess, people just seem to have no real understanding or appreciation for the time and work that goes into creating such amazing pieces of artwork! The entrance price is more than reasonable too. It was super hot today when we visited, but there are plenty of little shaded areas dotted about with benches or chairs. We did it in parts and stopped every so often for a break in the shade and to have a drink. There are lovely little areas with hanging chairs and hammocks, etc and a nice little café to buy a drink and snack once you're done. Also, the added bonus of toilets too! The sand sculptures were absolutely amazing. The detail on some of them was incredible! We thoroughly enjoyed our morning out, so thank you very much! If you do go on a hot day, definitely take plenty of water for walking around. We took some cold baby wipes too which were handy.
Heather M — Google review
Really nice and big area with a ton of sand sculptures displayed! Only downside - and that deducts at least a star, maybe even two - many of the sculptures seem very tired and damaged and are in need of some restoration. Nevertheless, this place has a lot of well made sand sculptures with many details and almost any person, character you can think off, you will find here 👍
Kim A — Google review
Visited Sand City in October, at the end of the season. While not all sculptures were damaged, quite a lot were, which was a shame. It seems they don’t put much effort into maintenance anymore, maybe only at the start of the season. I was here about five years ago and back then it looked much better and better maintained. Still, it’s an impressive place and worth a visit if you haven’t been before.
Martijn B — Google review
What a different experience. The work that goes into theses sculptures is incredible. Plus they had really cute seating areas dotted around if you needed to rest or just simply sit and admire the show.
Grace T — Google review
Expect to spend about 40-60 minutes there. Fun if you have kids in between 5-15 years old. Impressive sand skills! You can rent a buggy ride for increased experience (more fun for the dad!)
Gauti Ó — Google review
4/5 Stars It’s a really impressive place to visit the only downside is there was quite a few that really needed a good repair and freshen up a good 80% of the sculptures look really details and bang on although there’s a handful that really are not up to the standards of some of the others. Have a nice little cafe on site that has some good food options and decent prices a lot of seating. When I attended the park was really quiet not many visitors and you can take your time and there’s plenty of seating. It’s something worth seeing but not something worth doing more than once.
Adam N — Google review
Myself and my family visited sand city last week. Our kids really enjoyed it. The sculptures are amazing. There is s place to get food and kids to a certain age go free.

Random trip for the morning, place is certainly worth a visit but yes it is just sand. However the talent and skills to make such scalptures is remarkable credit to all the artists who are involved. The rest rooms are alright the cafe is quite nice, the prices arent bad and the food was good.

Albandeira Beach is nestled in a region characterized by small coves and bays formed in yellow limestone cliffs. During high tide, it splits into two distinct beaches separated by rock formations. The area is renowned for its natural rock pools, fine golden sand, and clear waters ideal for diving and snorkeling. Visitors can admire beautiful rock formations while enjoying the serene atmosphere of this beach. It's a perfect spot to witness breathtaking sunsets with loved ones and appreciate the promise of a new day.
If you want to cliff walk or sea kayak - get up and go early before the hoards.
Carl — Google review
Really picturesque beach - at low tide you can explore the adjacent beach with a view of the “arc de triomphe” rock and some small caves - if you are brave - at high tide you walk round to the top to jump off the top (under guidance) there is a small parking area at the top of the stairs and along the single track road leading down. It also has a small cafe (pirate cafe) serving cold drinks and pizza (had a toilet ) which opened at 12. There is a life guard on the main beach and is also a drop off point for kayak tours. It was relaxed early morning but gets busy late morning onwards - with high tide and afternoon crowd people are more or less on top of you as it’s a small beach at high tide . The time we were there there was a load of seaweed which made water visibility poor and the adjacent beach was covered meaning no one wanted to use it . We enjoyed it until it got packed around 1 onwards . At low tide it’s better as you can explore through the small cave tunnel to the adjacent beach with a view of the arc de triomphe rock formation and there is more space on the beach . Fairly gentle incline for small kids in water .
Alistair M — Google review
Beautiful spot to spend a few hours (or more) at. Stayed there after finishing our kayaking tour. Come with shade. There's a pizza bar above the beach you can get food & water at
Ehud R — Google review
A beautiful beach, but not quiet, full of Instagrammers and "alone in the world" selfies 😅 ... The water is nevertheless crystal clear, with a beautiful hidden secret, a cave access to another smaller beach: Praia de Estaquinha ... accessible only at low tide! Also a superb view of the Arco de Albandeira. An absolutely wonderful place, apart from the crowd.
Enjoy L — Google review
We came here after realizing it was impossible to have a spot in Marinha beach. Given that it was August 2024, so high season, it was crowded but we could still find a spot. There are two sides to the beach, swimming area is a bit limited, there’s a pizza restaurant which we didn’t try. There’s shade next to the cliffs towards the afternoon, but I strongly suggest to bring an umbrella. And there’s free parking outside.
Dilara G — Google review
Beautiful calm beach without many people especially in the morning. Around 13:00 it started to become busy. The beach is divided in two sections by a big rock. The water is relatively calm and the temperature is good. Close to the beach there is the possibility to park. Also there is a stand selling food and the way to the beach is paved until the sand which is perfect. There are many boats passing by the beach which is enjoyable to look at. Also there are two natural lagoons in the rock on the centre. Two third of the beach is relatively safe for falling rocks and collapsing cliffs.
F. N — Google review
Beautiful pair of beaches in a small cove. Clear water and fine sand. Lifeguards on duty and a small beach bar. Amazing rock arch in the next bay
Neil W — Google review
This beach goes so hard like no joke one of the calmest and prettiest beaches we went to in faro. Plenty of caves to explore when the tide is low and smooth sand! No cell service in the area. The caves are very cool.

Amazing!!!! Best part of the country. Well worth a visit for anyone who loves culture and something a bit weird. The kids were scared at points but added the to the fun! Family friendly.

Nestled in the charming Algarve region of Portugal, Olaria Pequena is a delightful pottery workshop that stands out with its striking blue sign against pristine white walls. This quaint establishment specializes in unique tile panels inspired by local themes such as lemons and olives, showcasing a distinct style that reflects the essence of the area.
This was by far my favourite pottery studio. The work was unique while still being very much local. Incredible value for handmade artwork. We really enjoyed talking to Molly in the beautiful studio and left with a few pieces to remind us of our beautiful experience!
Filo C — Google review
Lovely hand thrown pottery from a family business; each piece is unique. You won’t find these in the tourist shops in the beach resorts. Well worth a visit.
Bill P — Google review
Great ceramics shop with unique pieces and better quality than in similar places. This is the place to find a gift or a nice souvenir to take back home. Higher prices than the average ceramic shop, but you buy a piece of art, not a clay object.
Elena D — Google review
Lovely, unique pottery house. Not your average copy & paste shop. The pieces are modern and tasteful. Yes, it is “expensive “, but everything is handmade and you are taking a bit of Portugal back home. 100% recommend. You can pay by card and they also wrap the pieces super carefully so they are plane-safe.
Mica B — Google review
Beautiful pieces, great vibe, amazing quality! This was the best place we found on our ‘go find ceramics’ road tour of Porches. All that’s missing is a coffee machine and a little bench outside so we could soak up the lovely atmosphere. See you next time
Deniz A — Google review
Bought a few pieces of pottery from here years ago and I still use them. Love them. They wash so well in the dishwasher. Going back to Portugal next year for my daughter's wedding so I'm definitely going to buy another piece as a momento of the wedding

Scenic spot
Benagil Cave is a must-see attraction along the Carvoeiro coastline in Portugal. This remarkable seaside cave, with its distinctive hole in the roof, can only be accessed by sea. Visitors can take a boat tour or paddleboard to explore this natural treasure. The area is known for its fascinating rock formations, hidden coves, and beaches, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers. Some visitors recommend experiencing the cave both during the day and at sunset for a mesmerizing view.
The cave was amazing. So sacred place. We used a boat tour with kayak riding. The tour guides were very professional and helpful. We could ride a kayak safely and had a great tour experience. You can also swim (dive into the sea) from the boat during the tour. It's €110 (for two adults and a teen) but it was worth it! Highly recommended.
Momo W — Google review
Wow! A superbly well guided tour complimented with friendly and helpful staff. A beautiful to see the cliffs and water by actually trekking along the route that deep in history of its formation, beauty and people that originally lived here and off the land...fishing and clay pottery. The views are beautiful and explained well. Also the best picture angles and safest routes provided. The hiking route is manageable even by somebody of my fit was level (or lack thereof...haha). Highly recommended.
Abinash R — Google review
Visiting the Benagil Caves was an incredible experience! We went kayaking and even did some hiking along the coast, and every moment was breathtaking. The caves themselves are stunning, with amazing rock formations and crystal-clear water. The adventure felt safe and well-organized, and the views from both the water and the cliffs are unforgettable. Absolutely a must-do if you’re in the Algarve! This is one of the best experience we had in our trip. :)
Ailyn J — Google review
A must visit place if you come to the Algarve region. Is kind of hard to get a good picture due to the safety fence around it. It’s better seen by boat but is only half the experience. The views from the cliff are also amazing.
G. S — Google review
Fabulous scenery. We took a speedboat tour of the caves with Atlantis Tours. Tour guides were great with a good sense of humor. Highly recommend this 1.5 hr tour and less than 20 euros per person
Rob S — Google review
An exceptional visit to this cave and its beach near the seaside resort of Portimao. Indeed, the Benagil Cave is certainly the most famous of these marine caverns, a photogenic spot that has made Benagil, a small fishing village perched on a cliff, famous... But to get there, you have to arrive by sea, either by boat or kayak, which we weren't able to do. Before entering this natural wonder, your boat will sail alongside superb rugged cliffs, pierced by numerous cavities and dotted with rocks emerging from the Atlantic waters! This geological marvel, which we observed from its summit, has been patiently shaped by erosion over thousands of years. To be completely precise, we should speak of a double erosion. At sea level, the waves gradually eroded the limestone cliff until they created two openings and created a beach. At the top of the vault, it was the rain that seeped in and weakened the roof, which became brittle and eventually collapsed. This is how this circular hole called algar or "eye of the cave" appeared. And we then realize that this erosion is an inevitable process that will sooner or later lead to the disappearance of the Benagil cave ...
Enjoy L — Google review
It was so fun to do a kayaking tour inside the caves. It was beautiful. A wonderful adventure. The best way to see the caves.
Stephanie H — Google review
Beautiful caves. Cherry on the cake was that we spotted dolphins unexpectedly. We booked our tickets online and it is advisable to have an advance booking. The boat ride can be a little bumpy though. Ladies be sure to carry a hairtie/ hair clip on the boat ride.

Algar Seco is a captivating oceanfront destination near Carvoeiro, featuring a scenic and rocky coastline with intricate tunnels, caves, and grottoes carved by the relentless Atlantic waves over millennia. The boardwalks and pathways provide safe navigation through the terraced rock formations while offering breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline. The site showcases natural pools, karst landscapes, fantastic rock formations, and a cave with windows opening to picturesque sea views.
An excellent cliffside hiking experience with stunning views. You will not be disappointed! I do highly recommend making sure you were trainers or some other closed-toe shoe was there is a lot of climbing and uneven walking on the cliffs. Second, pack water. I went when it was warm and there is really no shade to speak of unless you are in one of the caves. It is best to come as early as possible in the summer to beat the midday heat.
Clinton F — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking! "A HIDDEN GEM " I recently visited Algar Seco in Portugal's Algarve region, and it exceeded all my expectations. The stunning rock formations, crystal-clear waters, and golden sandy beaches made for a truly unforgettable experience. The scenic views were simply spectacular, and I felt like I was in a postcard. Whether you are looking to relax, explore, or simply take in the natural beauty, Algar Seco is a must-visit destination. Highly recommend! 🤩🇵🇹

Beautiful. Make sure to bring sun screen and good hiking shoes. It is a bit of a hike but so worth every step.
James W — Google review
Didn't expect such amazing caves so accessible by foot, some steep steps and loose limestone so good footwear suitable for hiking is recommended, the board walk is suitable for all age groups and the more adventurous can go down the access to explore the caves and views.
Simon L — Google review
Simply breathtaking!🌅 This spot is absolutely stunning and a must-see. The coastal views are spectacular (as you can see in my photos!). The bright orange cliffs and the carved-out rock formations are mesmerizing. It’s an easy, short walk above a well-made wooden boardwalk to get these amazing views of the ocean, caves, and tide pools. Perfect for photographers or anyone wanting to feel close to nature. Go at sunrise or sunset for the best light! Highly recommend!🌅

Quinta dos Capinhas is a hidden gem that offers an enchanting experience for visitors. Upon arrival, guests are warmly welcomed by Luis, the owner, who provides an engaging tour of the estate filled with fascinating stories about his family's history. The afternoon unfolds with a delightful vineyard exploration where you can learn about the local flora and fauna—Luis affectionately refers to it as his "second skin.
We had the best experience in this winery! It is family owned/operated, the owner gave us a tour of the property and all of the wine was delicious! As he said, it is “wine drinking not wine tasting” with big portions and delicious charcuterie for pairing. The sunset views are remarkable. And it is family friendly, we came with our toddler and baby and they had a great time. Highly recommend!! We are shipping some delicious wines back home.

What a beautiful and unique experience. Did the afternoon vineyard tour - which is rather an exciting explanation about the area, the trees and the surrounding - or his second skin as the owner refers to. Followed by some wine tasting plus excellent snack board. Louis and his wife are amazing hosts. They put so much love and dedication into this tour and make sure that everyone will be leaving with a smile on their face. The atmosphere of this place is incredible. Would definitely recommend it to everyone who wants to experience more than just drinking some wine.

Thanks Facundo for a great wine tour and tasting. We had a really fun time and made some friends in the group during the tasting. Great setting and tasting area, even in the sunmer heat. Wine was really good, our favourite was the white.

What a wonderful time we had at Quinta dos Capinhas. Luis, the owner, welcomed us into his ‘garden’ and gave us an amazing tour of the site. Informative and intriguing with wonderful stories about his family’s estate. Then we had a private picnic where Louis’s wife specially prepared an incredible assortment of vegetarian tapas for us. The wines were incredible too. Overall, it was a truly unforgettable experience. Thank you to Luis and his wife (and sorry for the late review from our August 15 visit).
Dux C — Google review
Beautiful family owned vineyard with a wonderful story and love for the land. We did a wine tour/drinking experience and it was excellent. The owner does the tour and expresses his love for his garden, his family helps support the pairing and tasting. Great experience!

What a great way to spend a couple of hours! Facundo was a great host and his passion and knowledge for the subject clearly shone through. The wine tasting was set against the backdrop of the vineyard and we all had a thoroughly good time and came away with a couple of bottles of our favourites. Leave yourselves plenty of time to get there for the start time though, as we, and a couple of others in the group had Uber drivers that struggled to find the location.
Rob H — Google review

Praia do Barranco is a charming, small beach surrounded by cliffs and offering crystal-clear turquoise water, creating an exceptional atmosphere for relaxation. It is advisable to arrive early to avoid crowds, as the number of visitors increases in the afternoon. If you're driving, it's recommended to park your car approximately 400 meters before reaching the beach due to road conditions that may damage your vehicle. There are noticeable potholes along the way.
A lovely small beach with cliffs around and clear blue water, just amazing to relax. The earlier you arrive the less people will be there. In the afternoon more people are visiting the spot however I would not call the beach crowded. If you arrive by car I recommend not to go down until the end of the road. Park your car about 400 m before you arrive at the beach. The route conditions are okay but there appear big wholes in the street which makes you feel sorry for your car when you hit one ;) So when you arrive at a sign showing you „to the beach“ stop there and continue walking (in case you don’t have a jeep or off road car).
Lena W — Google review

A beautiful, sandy cove surrounded by high cliffs. It's a bit of a walk down, approx 500m, but well worth the hassle. No facilities or services nearby so bring what you need (and leave no trace please 🙏)
Robert K — Google review
Super deserted (December 2024) beach with focused, giant waves crashing, making it mostly a scary thing, not suitable for calm swim or even sun. Very small sandy beach area, might be ok on calm day. Road is very washed out though, be careful with a car. Expect 300m walk to the water edge. Trees and rock on both sides, not too much to see. The star of the show is the waves, narrowing into the gap and bashing the rocks. Easy 600m walk along unmarked path (but beaten down) from parking lot at Nssa Senora.
