Farm
Sights & Landmarks
Avila Valley Barn is a family-owned farm that has been a San Luis Obispo treasure since 1985. It offers a range of activities including a hay maze, pony and tractor rides, and classic barbecue dishes made with local produce. The barn also features an open-air farmers market where visitors can pick up fresh fruit, berries, vegetables, and other organic produce as well as homemade desserts like pies and hand-crafted fudge.
This place was a fun stop for us in the morning on our way to do more things. There are a lot of farm animals outside, and you can feed them with lettuce you buy at the store. We enjoyed walking around and looking at the animals and feeding them. There is a lot of fresh produce to purchase as well as a lot of nice gift options. We got some souvenirs here and we enjoyed our stop.

We had a great time at the Barn this week! My kids love feeding lettuce to the animals and seeing the chickens. This time, we took the tractor ride for a tour of the farm and then picked our own berries to take home! Ice cream is also a must-get whenever we visit. They had a musician playing music that was very enjoyable for me to listen to while my kids fed the animals.
A M — Google review
This is a miniature cute farm that is great fun for the whole family, especially for kids to explore and feed the animals. Besides feeding animals, Children can also try the pony rides. Normally we like to buy the seasonal fruits and vegetables. They are all grown from local farms. I like the gift selections. There are gifts here that you can not get easily at other places. So they have special gifts. They sell some homemade pastries as well. My father-in-law likes the Zucchini bread the best. It has a corner that sells ice cream and drinks. Some light meals are also available while you rest. We tried the Olallieberry pie ice cream which was delicious.

Dear Avila Valley Barn, I had no expectations coming here other than knowing it was close to the 101 freeway and it was a great place to stop. And, indeed, it was a great stop during our drive up the Central Coast. There were families and people of all ages and walks of life at your little farm. There were plenty of places to park and we got lucky finding a shaded spot under a tree near the entrance. There were plenty of things to see here from an ice cream barn on the left, a produce and small market in the middle, a corn on the cob stand, and an area to feed the little goats to the right - and plenty more animals around back. Avila Valley Barn had a variety of fruits and snacks available but I made sure to stand in the long (but fast) line for fresh roasted corn on the cob. It was delicious! We even bought some raspberries to snack on for the ride back. Too bad you were out of your apple cider but that only means I’d have to make a return visit. I did, however, make sure I purchased two of your pumpkin loaves and a giant cookie since all your other loaves were sold out. Oh, and your ice cream was so creamy. It was so delicious on a hot July afternoon. I enjoyed my first visit and I know it won’t be my last. I dream of coming back to Avila Valley Barn. Until next time… Sincerely, Your newest Avila Valley Barn fan

Super Cute & Fun Family Experience! If you have kids, this is an awesome destination that doubles as a knowledge bank for the young minds, if you plan an academic outing as well. Many animals to pet or feed lettuce to, many varieties of u-pick fruits/vegetables/flowers, many little stops all at this farm. Photo-ops galore! And the food? Delicious! We stopped and had the tri-tip & chicken sandwiches which were so fresh & so tasty. I'm already planning a trip to go back for the fall desserts and tip check out the store. No fees to get in, only to feed the animals or to buy anything from the many products & u-pick. We went during pumpkin season so there is also a massive maze!! Fee for adults/kids but a free tiny maze for the little ones.

We have been coming to Avila Barn for years and have watched it grow into this amazing place for families. Now that we have started a little family of our own, we love places like this. It's a second generation owned farm that offers food and fun. During certain times of the year they will bust out the holiday decor and activities for all to experience. Right now they are getting ready for fall so a whole bunch of new things are starting on September. This place can be pricey for some but you can honestly make a fun day out of it and not break the bank if you didn't want to. We ate at the Chicken Shack and Smokehouse (which is BOMB 💣 by the way) rode the tractor 🚜 with our very nice tour guide Bob, picked Gala Apples 🍎 and fed the animals and bought some fruit all for under 100$. So,it can be done.
G K — Google review
During our family vacation in San Luis Obispo, Avila Valley Barn was an incredibly appealing stop, especially for our 6-year-old! The animal feeding experience is a highlight, costing just $3 USD for a head of lettuce. Compared to prices in Los Angeles, this felt like a fantastic deal – the lettuce was even cheaper and fresher than what we'd buy for ourselves at an LA supermarket! They have a wonderful variety of animals including sheep, chickens, cows, donkeys, and alpacas, all eager for a snack. Another fantastic activity is the tractor ride, priced at $5 per person (adults and children alike). This 20-minute ride is led by a friendly old man who drives the tractor and shares interesting information about the plants grown on the farm. The farm store is a delight, offering a tempting selection of candies, ice cream, and various fresh fruits. There's also a small restaurant on site. Avila Valley Barn is a wonderful attraction for experiencing a taste of farm life. We recommend setting aside 45 minutes to 1.5 hours for your visit. You can enjoy a meal at the restaurant or bring your own food for a picnic. It's a truly charming and memorable stop for families!

Avila Valley Barn is a blast! We kept my 1 yr old entertained and happy for a good 2 hours and could have kept going. Also didn’t break the bank. The corn is delicious and I love that you get to add the fixings yourself. Can’t wait to go back when the pumpkins are on display.

Hot Springs & Geysers
Avila Hot Springs, discovered in 1907, is a hidden oasis in Avila Beach. The site features a hot mineral soaking pool and a heated freshwater pool with slides. The mineral pool is sourced from a geothermal spring deep beneath the Earth's surface and is cooled to 104 degrees for the perfect relaxation experience. Additionally, there are camping options and cabins available for visitors who want to stay overnight. For those seeking further relaxation, there's a spa offering massage therapy sessions.
Love this place. You take the good with the bland and it adds up to a mellow spot to enjoy mineral water, in a man made tub, surrounded by palm trees and green oaks. The water is the star of the show, it keeps me going, erasing body pain, mental distress and resetting my nervous system. Say hi to the lifeguards, they're the best! 10+ points if you get to meet Sunny, the orange cat. ♥️

Nice hot springs that' s been open forever! I've been coming here since the 70's and my grandfather used to come here from the 1930's to the 1970's ! Established in 1907, this hot springs has a nice clean single hot pool about 2' deep. You will sit with other folks and though there is some conversation going on, it's done fairly quietly and respectfully most times, obviously you'll get some louder people so expect that on occasion. There is also a nice large comfortable temp swimming pool with a slide and area for kids, with chairs and tables to sit and relax. We went on a weekday from 12-4 and there wasn't a lot of people. Weekends are especially busy at times. There are campsites and some small cabin rentals here also. There is a large grassy area in front of building for picnicking as you can come and go as long as you have wrist band on. No food served here, with vending machines for drinks. You can bring in your own water and munchies if you want. There is what they call an early session that goes from 7am-12 noon for 18$ which is nice also.
James K — Google review
I had a great time soaking in the hot mineral springs. The price is great, especially for the morning and evening soaks. The staff is friendly and informative. If you need a towel or a lock for your locker, you can purchase them. They have a couple vending machines for drinks and snacks. They offer massages. This is a very low key, no frills hot springs pool. Bathing suits are required. The water does make your skin and hair feel soft and silky. My sore muscles were relaxed, when I left. The water does have a little of the mineral sulfur in it; so there is the slight, "Sulfur," smell. Don't let that turn you off. They keep the water at about 104°. If you like the warmer water stay near where the water comes into the springs pool. I prefer slightly cooler water; so, I stayed at the far end. I will definitely return when I'm in the area. One of the questions asked was, "Do they have a cold plunge pool? If you are looking for the standard 5'x5' (40°-50°) plunge pool, no, they don't. The swimming pool is heated to 89°. It is a normal, chlorinated pool, but the chemical treatment is perfectly balanced, and you don't smell the chlorine. ***Someone on Google said that they are open until 10:00 p.m. This is incorrect. I confirmed it with the staff. They are only open until 9:00 p.m.

Finally find a spot to relax and unwind both body and mind. Just a clear thinking and a deep inhale exhale. Thank you so much for this wonderful day Avila hot springs.

$18 for 7am to noon. Worth every penny! Shallow mineral springs water pool and larger swimming pool to cool off. Don't be alarmed by the outdoor shower temperature, it warms up quickly. There are separate shower/locker rooms as well. Upon entry, Sunny the friendly resident cat directed us to the pools. Yes, there are PVC pipes in the mineral pool, but this is likely a necessity due to the high mineral content of the water. 10/10, will return!
R S — Google review
Really enjoyed the hot springs. It helps take the toxins out of the body and helps to relax everything. Would prefer multiple smaller sized hot springs instead of one large one. But it is what it is. I heard the swimming pool also has minerals in it. That I need to ask questions about and find out. I'll update when I get some answers

10.17.25 & 10.18.25 Hot Spring pool was so nice! They don't have towels for rent or use anymore but you can still shower there. Must bring your own supplies. 8am-12pm $18/person

The Central Coast Aquarium is a charming and long-standing marine life center that offers hands-on exhibits and activities focused on local species. Visitors can even participate in feeding the sharks, with admission fees supporting conservation and education efforts. The aquarium also provides beach clean-up kits to improve beach conditions, available at various Avila Beach businesses. As part of the museums for all program, the aquarium offers low-cost discounted admission to cardholders of Medi-cal or Ebt, making it accessible to those in need.
Hosting our wedding reception at the Central Coast Aquarium was truly a dream come true! Working with Christy was an absolute pleasure. She was incredibly helpful in coordinating everything and worked seamlessly with our wedding planner to ensure everything was set up and taken down without a hitch. The option to book a private tour during the event was a unique and special touch. The venue itself is breathtaking, and the raised cement area for the DJ was perfect. Overall, the aquarium made our wedding day something we never thought possible. We are eternally grateful to them for creating such an unforgettable experience. Even if you’re not planning an event, we highly recommend visiting the Central Coast Aquarium. It’s a hidden gem and a truly magical place.

A great community educational resource with a mission on informing the public on the local kelp forest and marine ecosystem. Great staff, excellent small exhibits. A resource for kids, school age kids education, summer camps and more including learning after dark.
James C — Google review
We had a great time exploring this little aquarium and thought it was an excellent introduction to the local sea life. The volunteers were great and the abundance of information which they gladly shared with us made the visit even more interesting. Definitely worth a visit!
Cherieke — Google review
Nice little aquarium. Great for kids. The staff were very accommodating, making sure my busy 3 year old was able to touch all the little critters. It is very small but a great little stop during the rain or to pass a bit of time. $9 a head can get expensive for what it is but I understand what they are doing takes money. We enjoyed it.
Jamie B — Google review
For younger kids, this place is awesome! Staff was friendly. The touch tanks are very cool. It's small. But for $10, it's all good.
Joyce L — Google review
Everyone there was so friendly and informative. It's a very small space, but it's a nice quick stop to check out.
Brenda D — Google review
Cute and small. It has been open for 14 years and is apart of the museums for all program. Which if you were not aware of this program it is where card holders of Medi-cal or Ebt can have low cost discounted admission to these places. It is a program that gives those in poverty the chance to learn just like everyone else. Definitely donate to this aquarium. their staff is lovely and so are their marine family. We all should help small places like these grow. I am so glad to have included this Aquarium in my itinerary. My mother, sister and two children loved it as well. Small in size but everything inside leaves the greatest memory.
Sunnayna S — Google review
We could not love this little aquarium more! Everyone was so knowledgeable and friendly. We were there for the pier feeding and it made all the fish get very active. The crown jewel is Mitch, the octopus. He is fabulous. Thank you for curating such a nice little exhibit.

Hiking area
The Bob Jones Trail Head, also known as the City to the Sea Trail, is a picturesque 5.1-mile paved bike path that offers a delightful way to explore San Luis Obispo County. Starting near Avila Hot Springs, where bike rentals are available, this trail follows San Luis Obispo Creek and leads to Avila Beach. Along the way, you'll cross charming pedestrian bridges and pass by scenic spots like a Buddhist temple and Sycamore Hot Springs.
As a first time visitor vacationing with my family I was ecstatic to learn that this trail was right next to our stay at the Avila Village Inn. As a marathon runner in the middle of a training block, I was taking a break from training but then I came across this trail. Heading out at 7am on a Wednesday morning to run was my zen along this quiet and peaceful trail. I came across a group of vultures, birds, saw some lambs on the hillside, a few golfers, early bird runners and people walking their dogs. I’m sure that even during the later part of this day, the shade from the trees still makes for a wonderful experience. My run from one end of the trail to the other was just shy of 5 miles.
Eduardo ( — Google review
It’s a very nice walking trail, clean and safe. You and the dogs both can enjoy the nature.
MY H — Google review
So for me when I read a review what I really want to know is if the person writing the review will actually go back and do business at this particular location again. Really that's all that matters right? It's either yes I can't wait to come back or no this place is not for me so what's my answer? The answer is ABSOLUTELY YES!! Awesome trail from the city to the beach. If you plan on visiting Avila Beach I would recommend that you consider a nice walk to the beach.
Costa D — Google review
What pleasant walk through the live oaks. Round trip about two hours on a paved road. Lots of runners and dogs.
JEFFERY C — Google review
Great hiking, jogging, and bike riding trail. Asphalt trail, lined with beautiful Sycamore trees and an adjacent creek. There is plenty of parking even on weekends. Mid-trail is a beautiful garden with refreshments, including beer, wine, and cocktails, and a place to relax. This is provided by Sycamore Springs Resort. It's usually open around 11 am. I'm not sure when it closes. It doesn't have set hours. The Sycamore Springs Trail branches off here and heads up the mountain to a beautiful overlook of the ocean. Sycamore Springs Trail is more of a moderate trail because of the incline. It's less than a mile to the top where there are 2 coastal oak trees, each with a swing!
Mark F — Google review
A local favorite trail. Beautiful scenery, free parking, paved trails and ample shaded parts of the path. I chose to ride my bike and my girlfriend walked with the dog. Good for biking, skating or walking. Bring water as it can be a little warm in the summer months and there are no faucets for drinking water until you get to Avila. Also, try and get there early or be prepared to wait to find a parking spot!
Ian H — Google review
Great paved, accessible trail for walking, bikes, etc. My wife has CP and limited leg mobility and had a great time with her electric assist trike, as I walked along. Signs, benches and stopping points along the way. Some moderate incline may be hard with wheelchair. Was a lovely trek. Trail ends at pier near many restaurants and bars.
Dave C — Google review
One of the most scenic, well maintained trails to take in the Avila/San Luis Obispo area! The trail is a 5.1 mile trail out to the ocean and back to main trail head. Beautiful scenic views including walking past a Buddhist temple, the Sycamore Hot Springs, and a cute watering hole called the Secret Garden! The trail ends just past the golf course and takes you directly to the main cross streets for beach access in Avila. The trail allows bicyclists and dogs on leashes.

Wineries & Vineyards
Kelsey See Canyon Vineyards is a charming local vineyard tucked away in the picturesque See Canyon, just a short drive from Avila Beach. Established as a retirement project in 1999, this family-owned winery offers a cozy tasting room and spacious outdoor area that welcomes both kids and dogs.
By far the most important winery in the Central coast appellation. Kelsey vineyards brings the epitome of wine and cider creation for the state of California with smaller facilities than most boutique wineries in the region. One of the last remaining local owned, family owned properties and wineries in the state. Only fools would pass this location up when driving north or south on 101 it’s only minutes from the freeway exit, but secluded like an untouched swimming hole, a closely guarded secret of the San Luis Obispo area. What are you waiting for? Go talk to their wine maker right next to the tasting room! If you don’t believe me, prove me wrong.. but you’re going to have to spend a few hours amidst the vines and peacocks before you judge this brilliant environment for dogs, kids, family, friends, lovers, newlyweds, anniversary visits and more. Also the cheese is like so flipping good. I could eat all of it. All. Of. It. Cheers and enjoy!
David P — Google review
The wine tasting was pretty good, but I most enjoyed the grapefruit cider that was so refreshing. This place is located along a side road near the edge of a mountain, with a family of peacocks that steal the show. Very relaxing and peaceful with no traffic noise.

We're in town from Chicago visiting our son who's stationed in Lemoore. I looked up this place and glad we checked it out. Great atmosphere, tasty wines, and cider beers. We met the owner, a very nice guy, and he had a couple of friendly dogs there, as well as some peacocks on the land. We bought a bottle of wine and a 4 pack of cider beer to go and would definitely return!
Carlos P — Google review
Such a cool place. Great wines. The weather always seems just right. Looking forward to my next visit.

Went visited on Father's Day and to celebrate my daughter's graduation. Loved the wine. The tasting was a good value and works on a 'chip' system. You have to use all the chips in one session. There was live music, which was great. The employees were very friendly.
Lucretia G — Google review
Beautiful little vineyard. I received a voucher for two free wine tastings and their wines are good. especially the ones are infused with Apple . The peacock's were amazing there they have a white peacock which I've never seen in my life. They have a little Vineyard there but that's not really where they get the majority of their grapes for their wines I'm sure. It's a cute little area to sit have some wine, have some cheese and some snacks and enjoy the sunshine. Very very cute!
Akua B — Google review
Intimate, quiet location with great wine and hard ciders. Always on our list to go to when in the Pismo Beach area. Beautiful drive into the canyon.
Denise M — Google review
While the fancy wineries are nice, we really like finding a family vineyard that feels like you've been invited to join them on the back yard! This is your vineyard if you like this! Dogs will amble by, peacocks will interrupt your conversation, and much relaxation will occur. And great wines (and even cider!).

Avila Beach Market is a fast, casual restaurant located near the historic Avila Pier. It offers a diverse menu including acai bowls, fresh fruit smoothies, salads, sandwiches, and wraps. The award-winning Splash Cafe Clam Chowder and fish and chips are local favorites. Additionally, the Avila Beach Farmers Market takes place on Friday evenings from May to August along the Avila Beach Promenade.
This place had a nice wine selection on the bottom floor and upstairs they had many food options to dine in or take out. Really nice and clean interior and it was fun to go downstairs and find a bottle of wine.
Jeff Y — Google review
Walked in here looking for something to eat - looked up on the walls for a menu (which wasn't there - only grimy paper menus in a box at the register), then asked and was told the kitchen was closed. The girl at the counter pointed to their "grocery" cooler, which had less than a dozen items in it, including several chunks of Parmesan cheese. ?! There is hardly anything in this store at all - it's very bright and airy but nothing for sale except bottled drinks and some chips. I've seen better selections at a gas station.
Martha O — Google review
This is now the second time I have come into the Avila Beach Market to get a smoothie bowl, and two different workers were very rude. I did not feel welcome at all and it was a really unfortunate experience. The bowl was very good, but very dissapointed with the service!

Services okay. food okay. Hamburger bun dried out. They show you the bag they put the fries in told us we fill it up. They gave us anlmost have a bag of fries. Online the list vegan sandwich but half the stuff on the sandwich is not vegan or they employees have no idea. When I ordered I question and I was met with sarcasm like I’m not very smart. Actually I’m 9 years vegan smart. The place was clean. I’d never eat here again. If you do t offer a vegan sandwich update your website.

Someone save this place. At one time this was a destination location to eat and socialize, but I have to say it’s fallen. From the frozen bowls which can’t compete with KRAVA BOWL in any fashion, to the frozen chicken patty being falsely marketed as “fried chicken “ in their Nashville chicken sandwich. It’s a slap in the face. The menu needs a massive revamp! And they need to hire a business person to come in and assist with the direction, and FAST. This was their “loaded fries” Guys- no salt in the fries and no seasoning in your aoli! It’s just sour cream. I know bacon costs, but brush! For $14 you’re making a killing ripping people off here. I’m just gonna go to mission pizza from now on and people should follow. I’ve been coming to Avila for over 15 plus years and can’t believe this has happened to this place.

The wines choices were great, but, the food was disappointing. The Soup à l’onion seemed watered down, but the cheese on top was good. Clam Chowder was comforting. Baked Brie (small) was great! Sadly, my $50 scallops were smaller sized and a bit chewy. The “Cognac” Cream sauce was just thick and creamy without flavor. I didn’t finish my main course. The staff was wonderful and hit by a late night rush at 8pm on a Friday night. This may also be the reason our food was lacking. We would give it another try.

This is a favorite place. Great French food and wine. The staff are super friendly, especially the French sommelier. But, the view of the ocean, pier and beach are awesome, especially at sunset. Avila Beach is a very cool, quaint place to hang out!

Great experience this past Labor Day Weekend. Sometimes small towns have overpriced food that doesn’t deliver on taste. I was worried about that here but couldn’t have been more wrong. Great value for the dishes we got and the service was top notch. They were slammed and our server was serving the entire outside area and was still extremely efficient and polite. Wine flight and charcuterie for $50 was incredible once we saw the pours and size of the board. Scallops were great and the beef bourguignon was one of the best I’ve ever had. Definitely go here for a nice dinner if you’re in Avila. No need to make the drive to SLO or Pismo.

My husband and I had dinner here. It seemed like a nice spot where we could listen to the live music on the promenade. However, they sat us in a highly trafficked area with the sun blasting in our faces. When we asked to move to a table that just left (we hadn't been served yet), the terrible server would not let us. We ordered olives as a snacking appetizer, but they were so incredibly salty. I love salty foods, but I had to rinse these with my glass of water. Then I was looking forward to the lobster roll, again, it was so salty I could barely eat it. I ended up removing the lobster from the roll and mixing it with the greens. My husband says the french onion dip was good, though. I woulnd't go back.

The wife & I stayed in Avila for 5 days & had dinner at Blue Moon Over Avila Restaurant 3 out of those 5 days. The food is excellent. I can highly recommend the wine & charcuterie board pairing. 🙌🏼 The clam chowder soup is the best we’ve ever had. The beef bourguignon was amazing. 🤩 And if you are into salads, I’d recommend the Classic Salad Niçoise w/ Spanish Albacore. If the food wasn’t enough to keep us coming back, the service at Blue Moon over Avila Restaurant needs to be equally recognized. The servers were knowledgeable, kind, energetic, & worked so well as a team we felt like we had a whole staff waiting on us. Thank you to the staff & cooks for helping to give us such a great experience. We will see you again on our next visit.

Beautiful outdoor setting for sunset drinks. Our server was friendly and informed, offering wine recommendations and gluten-free option, with panache! I would prefer to see Oysters on the menu as this is a French restaurant on the water. Though the service was slower than expected, the server made up for it with charm and conversation. The food is mid-level in terms of quality ingredients and presentation. I've enjoyed this restaurant for years--even had a wedding dinner here--, but the food quality has diminished. I would love to see more locally-sourced fish and vegetables with traditional french items, such as pommes frites with mayonnaise (thank you for the salad niçoise!), as well as creative food-wine pairings. I want Blue Moon over Avila to thrive because it offers elegance to a mostly casual beach boardwalk scene.

The positive energy, great service at the front desk, delicious food and great ocean views all come together here. Been coming to this location every trip when we have a beach day. Let’s dove right into the food. We got a burger, chicken sandwich, salad, fries, tater tots and macaroni for the kids. The food was really bright in color, delicious flavor rich in flavor. You can see from the pictures how vibrant our food was. You will not be disappointed.

If you’re looking for the best food in Avila Beach, Custom House is a must-visit! The tacos were incredible, packed with flavorful, perfectly grilled meat, fresh cilantro, red onions, and served with zesty green and red salsas. Each bite was full of authentic flavor, and the lime added the perfect touch. The customer service was outstanding. The staff were welcoming, fast, and made sure everything was just right. Whether you’re visiting for lunch by the beach or looking for top-rated restaurants in Avila Beach, Custom House delivers on all fronts. Delicious food, unbeatable location steps from the ocean, and five-star service, we’ll definitely be coming back!

Custom House is a nice restaurant but you grab your own menu and seat yourself, then have to pick up your own food at the counter. I got the cioppino bowl. The food is well seasoned. The sauce is a little powerful in contrast to the seafood. The service is good but I wish there were actual servers. I'd come back some day to try other options.

Dont go here if you are expecting to have a nice sit down meal. You have to order and serve yourself now. The food was ok but could have been better. The chicken quesedilla was so greasy I could barely eat it. My dad got the jumbo clam strips and were burnt and tough to eat. The fish and chips are pretty good but not worth going back ever. Clam chowder was decent. Overall won't be going back.
Robynn S — Google review
For dinner, we decided to stop at the custom house. I had the jumbo clams and my wife had the tri-tip Cobb salad. I also got the onion rings as I ordered to my clams. The clams were not exactly jumbo, but very tasty and the onion rings as a side I got three. But overall, they were still very good. My wife’s Cobb salad wasn’t exactly a Cobb salad however to tri-tip was cooked beautifully. And the salad itself was very well done. I shouldn’t mention they were dog, friendly, and even had a dog menu. I would go again. I would just change what I ordered.

Well it's definitely different since they remodeled but the service is still great! A different menu than last year but the food was superb! Can't wait to go again

What the hell happened to this place? It was fine casual dining for decades and has devolved into a tourist trap garbage cafeteria.... except they kept the fine dining pricing. Literally served, actually you have to go get it yourself, on plastic cafeteria trays and every appetizer we ordered was nothing more than freezer to fryer. There is no cooking going on here anymore. I spent many days at the Custom House in the 90's and 00's and I'll never be back again. The legacy is dead. Rick's next door is no better. I am actually depressed saying this, but I think everything that made Avila great (except the weather) is gone.

Ocean Grill is a contemporary restaurant located just steps away from the sandy beach in Avila Beach. It offers a delightful dining experience with its California coastal cuisine and scenic views of the pristine ocean. The restaurant features wood-fired pizzas, seafood, American entrees, and an authentic Hawaiian Shave Ice. With open-air oceanfront seating, a heated patio, LED backlit onyx bar top, and a 500-bottle wine display, Ocean Grill provides an inviting atmosphere for guests to enjoy their meals.
Almost every dish we had here not only looked amazing, but tasted amazing. The only thing I was disappointed with was the clam chowder even though I added bacon it wasn’t the clam chowder that you would expect to get somewhere like in Monterey Bay. The bread was delicious though, all the other food had amazing flavor and the plating was amazing as well. The service was great as well. If you look out the windows, there’s a perfect view of the ocean. Will definitely come back here if I’m ever in ever in the area again.
Amelia G — Google review
Nothing especially commendable about the Ocean Grill. Though the service was excellent, the food quality was not enough to back up the high price. I was impressed with the presentation of some of the dishes, such as the lava cake and the mahi tacos, but others such as the seafood pappardelle and lobster ravioli failed in both presentation and quality when considering the price. The same quality for $10 cheaper I could understand.
Jaspre S — Google review
Our waitress did a great job under pressure. The women carry the front of house. The men tend to stand around, especially the barman. The food was ok. The clams were babies and the green salad lacked thought.

Rachel was super sweet and very helpful and attentive, the crew here was kind and friendly willing to help even if we weren't there table. 5/5 The beet salad was definitely shareable dressing was alittle tart for my taste, but fresh, and beets cooked perfect. 4/5 The crispy calamari filled its plate and the aoili was yummy. 5/5 The fish and chips were ok, battered nicely but catfish a bit soft and mushy for my taste, however, we really enjoyed the fritz 3/5 Ambiance is kept dim, but warm for 815pm. 🙌🏽

A classic favorite of mine is the clam chowder I definitely recommend trying it. To my surprise I really enjoyed the fish tacos the where absolutely delicious and the view is beautiful the wait was around 30 minutes for a table but it was definitely worth it. I plan on stopping by again next time I’m in the area.

Most restaurants are booked months in advance for Mother’s Day - we had not planned anything. The hostess was most accommodating and seated us immediately. The menu was fixed and had many choices. The caprese salad was delicious. My friends chose the halibut it was a very generous portion. My entree was a veggie frittata a little too well done for my taste yet very tasty. I would return on a regular say to check out the normal menu.

Wow! They have stepped up their menu. We had tried this restaurant in 2016 and it was just ok. Now, they have a new chef and menu, it is delicious! We could not beleive how good the clam chowder was. It was the best out of New England I have ever had. The fried calamri was also good. The scallops with pork belly were seasoned and cooked to perfection.

The family was having a great time at Avila Beach and we were looking for a place to get something to eat. This place came recommended by our Airbnb owners. We decided to try out this place which was a pleasant surprise. Very conveniently located next to the beach, offers a wide variety of food on the menu and fast service. You can get coffee, dessert or a full fledged meal. They have ample seating inside and outside and they have other stuff for sale. The food is priced reasonably and the portions are fine. Parking can be a nightmare. They accept credit cards but charge a 3% fee which is kind of lame given the items are priced well to absorb that cost. Overall a good experience.

A nice corner cafe for lunch with large windows to look into the beach walk. It's air conditioned too. There are delicious deli sandwiches, soft drinks, coffee and ice cream to enjoy. Or you could browse around the gifts they have to offer. The staff is really friendly and the service is quick.

Might as well get punched in the face. We spent over $150 on food and clothing to have to deal with their hispanic rude unhappy cashier. She was being rude and aggressive with customers seems she isn’t happy about her life and takes it on customers. She was arguing with me about a request for a spoon and was not happy I was speaking English. She kept pushing her spanish on customers that do not speak the language. What a horrible experience and person to deal with. Go to Avila Market, larger selection happier people.

One of the worst sandwiches I’ve ever had in my life. I did the "build your own" option, and the thing I hate the most is that they didn’t mention anywhere that bacon was an extra four dollars, until you get to the register. The bread wasn’t even toasted, and I ended up paying almost $20 for the most garbage sandwich ever.

This coffee shop is a must-see, with smooth coffee and a very friendly staff. They make their own syrups, which causes the coffee to be fantastic and more organic. We highly recommend this place!

Unfortunately no restroom, but the Nitro Cold Brew and Matcha Latte were awesome! The guy working here was really friendly and the view of the harbor is really awesome from the second story loft seating area. I would rate this a 5 star if there were a customer bathroom, which is quite a bummer but it is apart of my reviewing process. Also the matcha latte was made well, but the Chasen was not pre heated before whisking which seems to be a common practice. The bowl used to whisk is not cleaned after each use either from the looks of it.

This spot wasn’t the easiest to get to with limited parking, but to be fair, it was a sunny Saturday so crowds were expected. The coffee and ice cream did not disappoint! We used to visit Kraken when they were in Pismo and were surprised to learn they’d moved, but luckily found them at their new location. Enjoyed a great view with my cup of coffee while wrapping up some work!

The Avila Bay Athletic Club is a fantastic spot. It is clean, family friendly, relaxing and overall just absolutely beautiful. We often order food from the grill and it’s excellent. Highly recommend the chipotle chicken sandwich. My friend had the ceviche today and said it was some of the best she had ever had. Definitely a place to experience.

It’s unfortunate that this club shares the pool with the hotel next to it. The family pool is very small and just right for the members but when the hotel guests come and drink and catapult their kids into the air like cannons, makes it a little unsafe for my family to be in the water at the same time. Today was like a sardine party bumping into everyone. This whole summer has been kind of like this unfortunately. Doesn’t feel good to pay a lot for this. Advice: when signing up for a club make sure you’re not next to a hotel with lots of guests dropping in all summer long. Big bummer.

I have been a member here for 6 years and my whole family loves it! Tennis is top notch, great pro's, beautiful courts, lots of clinics. (They even have Pickleball courts and clinics). The pools are beautifully maintained (they have an adult only jacuzzi too). The massage staff is fantastic, the club staff are very friendly and always helpful. The food is yummy. There is an upper deck to observe the courts and hang out. That has plenty of heaters and fire pits, comfy patio furnuture, lots of live music and fun, social events. The grounds are super lush with beautiful plants. It's a little slice of paradise, where it's mostly always sunny with its own microclimate. Good job Nancy and crew!

Incredible place to spend time! Beautiful surroundings, lovely people (ABAC team and members), fabulous pool, delicious grill/good value… I can’t say enough good about this place! UPDATE: The new menu item, kale salad, is more delicious when you eat it the next day, after the lemon vinaigrette melds with the kale and other goodies! Yum!

Equipment was a little outdated but HEY it did the job. Came as visitor. I would expect a little more considering it’s kinda an upscale club of sorts. Again, the equipment is not what you’d expect at a place like this. Everything else was very nice. Great local spot. They recently reconfigured the inside, adding more seating and dining space. Great service and a happy atmosphere. We ordered a (custom made) sandwich and it was generous enough to split. If you don't love mayo, you might ask for light/less. Everyone seemed happy with their food choices and most walked away with to-go boxes (good portions). We will be back to further explore the menu.

This is a nice neighborhood market that also serves food and coffee with a nice fireplace and seating area. We had Americanos from the coffee bar, and my wife had a gluten-free pizza and I had soup and a sandwich. Everything was very tasty. Nice little place to have a meal.

My partner and I stopped here for brunch as we walked along the Bob Jones Trail. The food selection was better than expected, as they added more options to the breakfast menu, and there were several gluten-free choices. They are also well-stocked with local artisan food products/desserts. The staff is incredibly friendly, personable, and attentive. It's a beautiful space as well with a nice, relaxed atmosphere. However, I had to lower my overall rating because the state of the women's bathroom was just abysmal- it looked like it had been days since it was cleaned, and none of the stalls had toilet paper. To their credit, one of the staff quickly jumped in to restock after I asked. But still, I don't think the restroom being that dirty is justified, considering the restaurant wasn't particularly busy.

Tri tip sandwich was recommended and it didn’t disappoint. Very tender, easy to shred. Had it to go so meat was foil wrapped, bun was toasted and veggies were there and out it together when ready to eat, with sauce. Came with choice of pasta or potato salad. This potato salad was delicious for purists - potatoes, mayo, celery, tiny bit of red onion. No mustard or weird tangy taste. Not slimy. While we were there the coffee smelled wonderful.

Great wine and great people. The winemaker's wife, Trish, is so nice and incredibly friendly. We've belonged to this winery for 18 months and the holiday shipments are a must have if you are signing up. All events are reasonably priced especially compared to some in the SLO region. This place is located just off front street so while you are not ocean side, you can see it from the door. Paint n sip, which is almost every month, was awesome and worth attending because who wouldn't want to have wine while painting? They always have new unique gifts inside (good for Christmas!) Very nice. Wonderful oysters The estate Chardonnay is light , oaky, and a lot flavors and aftertaste. I wish we could try whole flight - but we had to keep driving. Evan who helped us is very friendly and knowledgeable.

Incredible tasting experience with our host Shay (sp). Her depth of wine knowledge and approachability enhanced our experience on a Saturday afternoon. The Pet Nat was such a surprise and a great way to start a tasting. Every single wine was better than the last. Brought a bottle of Estate Syrah home and will be sharing it with friends. Thank you, Sinor-LaVallee.

Stopped in spontaneously after a walk and we're delighted to find a welcoming little spot. Evan shared his knowledge of a few of their wines which we enjoyed and even some great tips for the area. We also had a half dozen oysters which were the perfect accompaniment to the wines (+ freshly made mignonette!). We'll definitely be back on our next visit!

Really delicious wine! Yummy hot sauce with their oysters. The owner is the nicest guy and gave us all these local recommendations. You do have to shuck your oysters but it’s fun and they were so fresh and yummy!

Avila Beach Park is a charming green space located at the end of the Bob Jones Trail, offering a variety of amenities for visitors. The park features a children's playground, an aquarium, walking and cycling paths, public restrooms, benches with scenic views of the water, barbecue pits, and ample beach space. It's an ideal destination for families seeking adventure and relaxation. Additionally, the nearby town offers restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream spots, and a Thursday Farmers Market.
Love this clean small beach 8 miles north of Pismo beach. Beach is south facing and produces small 1 to 2 foot waves. Perfect place for beginner boogie boarding. Nice full size basketball court and small kids play grounds. City parking is 8 dollars all day. No doggies on the beach by the pier.

Wonderful long beach line with well maintained public areas, playground and maritime museum. Widely enjoyed on sunny days for sunbathing, picking at the beach and playing with small kids and dogs, with the beach area for dogs separate. The public restroom is gender - neutral and oftentimes it has a waiting line.

Beach
Pirates Cove Beach is a secluded and free-spirited spot with a history of liquor smuggling. It's located near the Avila Beach Pier and can be reached by a short, fairly easy hike along the coastline or from a nearby parking lot. However, the area is not well-maintained, and there is litter debris scattered around. Visitors should be cautious as some areas are defaced by graffiti and stickers.
So lovely! Visiting from Irvine for the first time. When I went, the water was calm and light blue, even clear in some spots. Gorgeous May day but a little too windy for me, so I had to cover up with a towel poncho. Great views, and great people! Everyone was so friendly and respectful. A place where everyone is equal. Wish they had more of these in California. Definitely coming back when I’m in the area.
Jessica B — Google review
This is a nude beach (or at least people were very nude when I arrived). Great hike down to the beach. Very calm waves and nice water temperature. Parking was easy to find on a Friday afternoon. I just wish the "nude" part was made clear before we were surprised.
Blake J — Google review
Nice place. If you like to walk or hike take the long way. If not the parking lot on top of the cove is closer

Beautiful place to bare it all and catch some sun. Can't add all the photos.😊😏 Clothing optional makes for limited photos. Your pups are welcome too.
Michael J — Google review
Beautiful although saddening to see all the litter debris everywhere. Parking is better done by the road unless you want to risk damaging your vehicle. Be cautious to where you walk due to people urinating any where. No potter potties on location and nearest bathroom isn't close. This isn't a family spot for kids due to the younger crowd drinking, smoking and some areas allowed nudity. Lots of areas have been defaced by graffiti or stickers plastered everywhere. Beautiful hike , just be cautious, walk ways haven't been groomed and you will get scratched. A gorgeous view of the surrounding beach and cliffs. And my favorite.....a hidden gem under the trees will be a creepy wooden swing.
Dying R — Google review
Great hide away cove. Beach is mostly nude so be prepared if you bring the kids. Water is cold but it’s usually isolated from the winds. Update summer 2022: There is a solid sea grass submarine climate here, and as expected you will see sea life in the Pirate Bay. That said, a significant tiger shark pod was pulled from the vicinity the summer of 2022. So, swimmers beware.

Winery
Nestled in the charming town of Avila Beach, Alapay Cellars Tasting Room is a delightful destination for wine enthusiasts. Established by winemaker Scott Remmenga in 2001, this winery has earned its reputation as the largest in the area, crafting exquisite hand-crafted wines aged in French oak. The name "Alapay," meaning heavenly in the language of local indigenous people, perfectly encapsulates their mission to create divine wines that keep visitors returning year after year.
Well, we all know I go to a lot of wineries. This is one of my new favorites. It is one of only two champagnes that I’ve ever truly liked enough that I bought an entire case to have shipped home. I also bought two of the desert wines. Honestly, every single one of the Reds I had was smooth and delicious and I wish I had them all in my collection. It’s one that I will have to go back to even if it cost me an entire airline flight just to go here. I want to spend more time at this one. They are all small batches and are not available anywhere else. Worth every penny. It’s on the corner not the one next to. It is just a liquor store that does tastings. I don’t know why Google maps has it that way. This is a true winery tasting room. And on top of that they have a lot of cute gifts. The staff was wonderful. The owner was magnificent. True dedication to the art. Thank you so much for the experience.
Serena B — Google review
We visit the area annually and always make time for Alapay. Over the last couple of years we have had different servers during our tastings. All the servers have been great. This visit, April 2025, we had the pleasure of meeting Jennifer. Her knowledge of the wines was informative and her timing between pours was good. We had enough time to try different items from a charcuterie board with the different wines. The live music was mellow and very comfortable making the atmosphere enjoyable. Not that you need the music but it's very nice when they do have it. This is one of our favorite places. Oh yeah, the wines are all very good. The wife likes whites and I prefer reds, however when we taste we both seem to cross over a bit. So I guess with that said, you will definitely find some that everyone will enjoy. Our favorite is the Rebekah Cab. Unbelievable great taste.
Doug H — Google review
This wine tasting bar is a great spot to sample a variety of California local wines. The atmosphere is welcoming, and it’s clear they take pride in showcasing regional selections. Most of the standard wines tasted fresh and enjoyable, especially for casual wine drinkers or those looking to explore California labels. However, some of the more unique offerings, like the carbonated Sauvignon, had clearly been open too long. The wine was aired out and had developed a noticeably sour taste, which was disappointing. It seems that not all bottles are rotated frequently enough, which can affect the tasting experience. Overall, it’s a good place for a laid-back tasting with friends, especially if you stick to the more commonly served wines. Just be aware that some bottles may not be at their best.
Nikki J — Google review
Horrible experience here. Was having a very nice day, went on a walk to Fat Cats (3 mile walk round trip), and walked back into town. Was planning to go here for wine tasting and was looking for a table to sit down. As we were looking for a table, this woman named Sandy came up to us and told us we would not be served. We were very confused and asked why and she said it was because we were “too drunk and stumbling around” despite not having anything to drink all day. She was very rude and asked us to leave. We had literally not done anything but walk in and look for a seat. We were in the place for maybe 1 minute when she came up to us. Very, very horrible experience.
Danica M — Google review
This place has great wine. They make you feel like you are a valued customer and it’s clear that it’s a goal of theirs to just make and sell great wines and hopefully keep people coming back. A very welcome change from most other wineries around here. The waitress offered us many other wines that weren’t on the tasting menu so that we could see if we liked them and made us feel welcomed. I would highly recommend this place if you want some good wine and a good experience.
Jaimie R — Google review
While I can’t speak to how this place compares to other locations as I’m fairly new to the wine scene, this place has certainly set a standard that I will be gauging future outings to. My girlfriend and I stayed at Avila for our anniversary and decided to try out this location, and I’m glad we did. I unfortunately can not recall the name of the blonde woman who served us, but she made the visit a pleasant experience. From giving us detailed descriptions of the wines, to making sure our glasses were not empty for too long, and for sweetly giving us some extra samples to taste when she learned about our anniversary, she really did make our wine tasting a great one. I hope someday in the future we will be able to stop by again!
Anshel M — Google review
First time we've been able to visit Avila Beach and just enjoy a weekend. Saw great reviews about Alapay so went for wine tasting. So glad we did! Awesome wines and friendly service from both Diane and the owner Scott. Did not intend to, but joined their wine club because it was just such a personal, enjoyable visit and we liked everything we tried. Can't wait to come back!
Kerry N — Google review
Wine tasting here is 7 samples of wine for 25 usd. The lady working there told me that today they were pouring some extra samples from the bottles they opened and normally dont serve. Hmm. That meant one extra sample that she offered, and one that I asked for because I wanted to try their pinot blanco. She gave us some basic info on each sample that we were trying. The wines were interesting enough, but not very surprising. Gratuity is only possible to pay in cash, which is bit weird, as we are not used to carry cash.

Pirate's Cove Beach is a hidden gem nestled among the mountains of the Bay Area. Accessible via a short, rewarding walk, this small and unspoiled beach offers stunning ocean views and a tranquil atmosphere. While some visitors may bring loud music and party vibes to the north end, it's possible to find serenity by heading south. Despite occasional graffiti and encounters with less tolerant individuals, many enjoy sunbathing or watching hermit crabs in this beautiful setting.
Beautiful ocean views and cool sea cave. There is some graffiti in the cave, but it is still worth seeing.

Beautiful! Not too busy. Had fun watching the hermit crabs and sea snails. Might have seen some whales out there! Beautiful weather. Best to visit in October and afternoon, after the fog rolls out. :) Wished there were porta-potties at the park.
Rachelle S — Google review
The mountains around the Bay Area hide the beach really well. In order for you to get to the beach you will have to get down and walk it's not too far down but it's worth it. Once you get there you will be rewarded with stunning views of the ocean and the atmosphere is very relaxing. It's a small, relaxing yet beautiful beach to enjoy the day. So if your wanting to enjoy the beach on a hot summer day grab your bathing suits , or not bathing suits are optional.

My daughter and I stopped by for a tasting out on the patio and he took great care of us. Thanks for the great afternoon Manny!

The staff here was very kind and fun, and the atmosphere reminded me of Costco, in a good way! It had a bit of a "hidden warehouse of treasures" kind of feel. After a 5-hour drive, stopping here was an absolute breath of fresh air! I was truly in awe of the stunning views and how clean and well-maintained everything was—from the park grounds to the restrooms. The lawns were perfectly manicured, and the surrounding flowers added such a beautiful touch. The kids had a great time stretching their legs, playing, and enjoying breakfast at one of the shaded picnic tables. Being able to walk right up to the edge, listen to the waves, and watch the birds—and even spot a few otters—was incredibly relaxing. Such a peaceful and refreshing stop. This beauty is located in the Shell Beach area, adjacent to 'Margo Dodd Park' where you can admire the caves better, (even more if you bring your binoculars). Plenty of parking. There's a kid's playground, walking trails, benches, lots of grassy areas with flowers, and stunning ocean views. Such a nice, family friendly atmosphere with a relaxing vibe. My dog had a good, happy walk here. The entire park is very clean and nicely taken cared of (but the sea smell was a bit strong for my sensitive nose). I was happy to see a lovely memorial bench area for 'Kristin Smart' as I followed her case since day one. It is a peaceful place to remember her as she loved the beach. Overall, it has always been a nice, relaxing time here and will visit every time we're in town.

You can stand and take beautiful pictures off of the Bluffs or you can go down and enjoy yourself on the beach. It's nice it's quiet. Don't get me wrong there are people on there but it was very peaceful and relaxing. There are a lot of tide pools in rocks to explore, but be very careful. This is a place, a must see

Awesome place. You can just sit on a bench & enjoy the view or have a picnic. They have 3 bbq grills & 4 picnic tables. They also are two sets of stairs, that lead you straight to the beach. One off Morro & Ocean Blvd, the other off Vista del Mar & Ocean Blvd.
Diana — Google review
We chanced upon this each and was pleasantly surprised. Spent a lazy afternoon just watching the waves and the kids enjoyed hunting for hermit crabs in the tide pool. Be sure to check for daily tide schedule. Plenty of street parking

Found this by accident. This is simply one of the best spots I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a lot of beach sunsets. Photos don’t do it justice. The people in the community were very nice, wonderful ocean breeze, clean waters, and just the right amount of sun. Please be a respectful member of the community to keep this as wonderful as it is
Nishant T — Google review
This little overlook provides an amazing view! It wasn’t super busy, but it’s surprisingly chilly out so it may be that. Plenty of room for the kiddos to run around and play, just be careful of the construction areas!
Sonjja A — Google review
We stopped here on a recent Wednesday during low tide in hopes of finding some tide pools. There was ample parking along the street during our visit, but only one set of stairs down to the beach was open. Tide pools were plentiful, but not many sea critters to be found. Very pretty spot though, with lots of interesting rock formations on the cliffs.

My favorite spot to catch the sunset 🌅 There is plenty of seating and many friendly folks who are walking their dogs, drinking wine, doing their workout, hanging out with their families, etc. I’ve also hosted a picnic or two here and it’s been great! Perfect spot for a picnic!

Gopher Glen Organic Apple Farm is a must-visit destination for apple enthusiasts. The farm offers the opportunity to pick your own apples during the season, providing a natural and enjoyable experience. Visitors can also explore a store filled with an array of products made primarily on-site, including various types of fresh apples available for purchase in paper bags. Additionally, the farm features honey and provides an engaging experience for children with chickens on display.
A visit to this place is classic for fall on the Central Coast. They grow an amazing variety of heritage apples that you cannot find anywhere else. They do Apple tasting daily. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Very sweet little shop with a nice variety of local products. Don't miss their fresh preshed cider. And they carry Cal Poly cheeses. It's the perfect place to create a little picnic that you can take to Avila Beach.

This place may be out of the way but it's well worth the trip on the fun Road like a roller coaster. It's a lovely Farm. Great samples of stone fruits foods for now peaches, plum, apricots, nectarine and so on. August they will have apple sampling will be returning and so will we. They are currently $3 a pound for the fruits. My kids & wife loved the ice pops which was made of cider for a dollar Plus. And a very welcoming family of staff. Other stuff includes stuffed animals, candles, soaps, homemade caramel, beeswax chapstick, Honeycombs honey, plus variety of honey. Also a variety of pickled items. A small amount of dried fruits that my daughter wants to try. This place is a diamond in the rough.
Trevis K — Google review
Way down a rural road, we lost cell signal, but well worth it. Great for early elementary age kids. They let us sample several apples, a few pears and their cider. They have a couple rows of trees you can self-tour through in the back. Only a single restroom, so FYI if you're with a larger group, but it was kept very clean.
Karl S — Google review
This apple farm is worth driving to. This is a store full of products made mostly by them. Of course they have lots a different types of apples that you can buy in paper bags and enjoy. We got 4 different types of apples and they were all very fresh as though they were just picked. We also bought honey in a bottle also great fresh honey. Your kids will also enjoy seeing some chicken in a cage kinda fun for them. The drive up to the apple farm is also nice and we saw a fee deer on our drive up. Overall, a great place to visit if you’re driving by on a trip.

Accidentally discovered this place looking around on google maps. Decided to come here mid week in May. Windy, narrow road to get here. Found out it was related to Avila barn. Some similar things inside the store but WAY smaller. We weren’t sure if it was even open. One car was parked in the lot. We walked up to a door and it was unlocked. We walked into the store and looked around for 5-10 minutes and nobody was there, not even workers. They had mostly packaged goods with very little fresh fruit options. Apparently it’s not apple season. Haha. There were zero apples. Walked back to our car and then a worker came out a side door to her car. We left. I wouldn’t recommend coming here in May. I might try back in the fall when I assume there will be apples.
Nick H — Google review
Fun family owned apple shop with other things like pickled vegetables, salsas, you-bake deserts and even a hard cider. Other nick-knacks like cookbooks, hats, decorations
Bill S — Google review
This is my absolute FAVORITE apple grower on the Central Coast. I have been coming here for years, my parents took me as a kid here all the time, and although there have been fluctuations in the quality of their fruit, I always keep coming back - especially for their apple cider! If you haven't tried their cider, you are missing out!!! For those of you who don't know, these guys own the Avila Valley Barn too. If you want to beat the crowds, come to this farm stand tucked away in See Canyon!

Kravabowl is a must-visit spot inside Avila Market, offering a variety of delicious options such as acai bowls, cold-pressed juices, fresh salads, breakfast bowls, and smoothies. The founders were inspired to bring acai bowls to SLO county after falling in love with them in San Diego. Their menu features fresh pressed juices and hand-crafted salads alongside the popular acai bowls.
Very very good. You just need to go. Seriously and get a smoothie bowl. You won't regret it. But they moved to the market place area. Here's also some updated pictures. Don't even read another review or place. GO.

Dennis D — Google review
The best smoothie bowl I have had in my life. I’ve been here maybe 10 times, I come back any time I’m in the area. The acai is perfect, the topping with cacao nibs and coconut and fruit is on point. The granola is perfect. I have travelled the world and tried acai bowls everywhere I go, they are my favorite food. Including (but not limited to): Bay Area spots, Hawaii, and my current location in Bali where acai bowls are served at every hipster cafe. Hands down, my favorite acai bowl is from Kravabowl.

Not L — Google review
No star if i could.. They used to be good. It used to be the go to spot. I don't know what happened but their portion sizes used to be huge and worth the amount. I went and got a large original kravabowl for $15. It used to be $11. Anyway, I saw the dude scooping something into my bowl, but it was way too hard so the guy managed to scoop a weird hard piece and covered it with toppings. It tasted disgusting. Nothing like the picture online or how it used to taste. It was pretty embarrassing. They should update those photos. And to top things off, my friend ordered the smaller size which was $4 cheaper and got way more than me. I won't be going there again.

Not many choices. Menu says build your own sandwich but as we were trying to it seemed like we were not able to. I had a hard time trying to find a gluten free sandwich or any items 😔 if our kids weren't hungry, we would have gone elsewhere. 2 stars because the store below did have some healthy snack bars that I could tolerate, gluten free, soy free etc.

So much fun! Such incredible details! I loved how much the community comes together with their love fir trains. So glad I visited!

It is a small museum but is run by many passionate train lovers and we got to chat with some of them to learn about the history of the museum as well as their individual passions (e.g. the person who teaches kids about the train simulator is actually a train conductor). We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would highly recommend families with kids who love trains to visit. Just note they are not open everyday so check the schedule before you visit to avoid disappointment.

A historic landmark you must see to appreciate. the museum is located in the historic 1894 freight house. The building became 131 years old as of 2025. They preserve local railroad history and artifacts from that era.

Great little museum! My son LOVED it. It was only $3 to get in and totally worth it! The model train area is not complete... But as with most model train areas it will probably never be truly done! They will always be working on something! It was all decorated for Christmas so it was very pretty! Loved it!

They are so nice and friendly. I had an amazing time visiting this location. It had a mini pumpkin area, flowers to pick, and apples. I came towards the end of the season but still had a blast!

What a great place to spend some time this afternoon. Shade with a large grassy field for kids to play and picking apples was super fun! The woman working in the barn was kind as well and helped us identify all the apple types we picked.
Jessica K — Google review
I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this you-pick farm. It is smaller than some of their competitors, but you can't beat their charm. We picked some apples, but at this point in the season (October) the weeds between the rows were a little overbearing - got some sticky stuff all over our legs! But the family that runs the farm is very friendly and the dog that greets you is adorable!

The Point San Luis Lighthouse, dating back to 1890, is a National Historical Monument and a must-visit destination. Accessible via a rocky hiking trail or an afternoon trolley tour, the lighthouse offers guided interpretive tours showcasing its Prairie Victorian and Gothic style architecture. Visitors can explore the original Fresnel lens and Victorian-period furnishings inside. The property also boasts stunning views of the surrounding area.
Great tour and views. I visit a lot of lighthouses and used to work at one, and I think this is the best preserved one that I've been to. You can't drive there because of the neighboring powerplant, but you park in Avila Beach and take a van up to the lighthouse. The driver we had was funny and friendly, and the drive was beautiful. We were put into a small tour group when we got there. Our tour guide was very friendly and knew a lot about the lighthouse. You get to go through the beautifully restored lantern room, bedrooms, and kitchen on the tour. You get a few minutes to check out the trails and gift shop too before the van takes you back Make sure to reserve your tickets online in advance if you want to visit
Rhi T — Google review
John was our tour guide, he was very knowledgeable and told interesting stories. I enjoy touring lighthouses, and this was one of the best I've been to, as you actually get to go inside and up in the tower. The only part that's a little misleading, they say it's a 1 hour tour, but your total time is close to 2 hours; so plan accordingly. I highly recommend this tour.
Drew A — Google review
A quaint but beautiful experience. We could go inside but the walk around the grounds was tranquil and the gardens were fun to look at. There was even a rope swing that made it feel like you were swinging over the ocean. Plus the kayak trip out to it was filled with otters and seals. 10/10 would recommend!
Holly P — Google review
We put our inflatable kayak in by the wharf at 10:20, landed at the beach at 10:45, walked up to the lighthouse, rinsed our feet near the bathroom, and strolled around the grounds. beautiful experience. We made it back,l oaded thr kayak, and were on our way. by 12:20. highly recommend and would like to return.

My fiancée and I kayaked here from Avila Paddle Sports and it was a great experience. It took us about 30 minutes to get to the private beach and then another 5 minutes to walk to the lighthouse. It's a very serene place with stunning vistas. If you're looking for a fun and leisurely activity to do with friends and family, a lighthouse kayaking or paddle board trip is a must. Would definitely come back!

This is one of the best kept secrets. The drive up and in to the lighthouse is spectacular!!! The docent Phil was very detail oriented and had extensive knowledge about the sight the family and the function.
Sara L — Google review
Andy made our whole family feel completely unwelcome. We came to see the lighthouse after paddleboarding and kayaking, not soaking wet, just a little damp. He told us we couldn’t go inside, which was fine, but then followed us all the way to our kayaks and paddle boarding, right after he’d said we were free to walk around the rest of the premises. The group ahead of us, all white and visibly more wet, we’re left alone. No escort. No attitude. But we’re Indian, and the way Andy locked onto us was clearly targeted. He kept walking behind us like we didn’t belong there, and made the entire interaction tense and uncomfortable. The rest of the staff was great. But Andy doesn’t represent this place well. He turned a beautiful experience into something that felt racist and humiliating.

Great dog beach! Owners seemed responsible for their dogs and taking care of business. My puppies were a bit intimidated with all the big dogs running around but they were perfectly safe on their 1st outing after getting all their vaccinations.

Dog heaven - my dogs love this place. The dogs have a great time running the beach and playing with the other dogs. People who frequent the beach are friendly and so are the pups. It is extremely busy during the summer and if you’re going on the weekend in the summer better get up early.

This was a really nice beach. There is plenty of space to roam. It is dog friendly, off leash. The water and sand are very clean. There are restrooms available. Free parking was readily available on the side of the road. Very quiet and was less crowded than Avila beach. I would highly recommend this place for a perfect beach day with your dogs.

I also like the fact that there's wireless service out here.

Just as described. Perfect place for your dog to play off leash. Everyone is just having a great time watching their dogs have the time of their life. Nice rock barriers keep dogs away from road. Parking along the street and restroom at top. Water foundation, but was not on today, when we went. But try to always make sure I keep extra water on hand for my puppy dog.

The Harbor Cruise was a highlight of our family trip of two adults and 2 young teens! We were lucky to get 4 spots just 2 days ahead. It was a lovely boat and felt like a super private cruise. Unforgettable Experience with SLO Boat Tours! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We went on a boat tour with SLO Boat Tours on August 16, as part of a birthday celebration trip to San Luis Obispo for my niece — and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our visit! It was myself, my sister, and my niece, and from the moment we boarded, Captain Michael Brink made the experience memorable. He was friendly, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable about the area. He shared interesting facts, local stories, and even gave us a fantastic restaurant recommendation, which we tried afterward and absolutely loved! It was a relaxing, fun, and engaging tour, and we felt like we got to see a side of the area that we wouldn’t have experienced otherwise. Huge thanks to Captain Michael and the team — we’ll definitely be recommending SLO Boat Tours to friends and family!
