El Morro de Tulcán is a historic site and burial ground constructed by an indigenous pre-Columbian community. It offers stunning views of the city and picturesque sunsets. It's, maybe, the prettiest spot in Popayán, and you have some essentials right there: drugstore, money exchange (Western Union and Duque, at the right side of the clock-tower building), ATMs, some local fast food and mobile sellers, and free internet - if you are are lucky and it works. I like the fact that the logos and different companies names are in black or golden ON WHITE, keeping the town's emblematic colour in good order.

The atmosphere is described as excellent and calm, providing a great place to relax and taste unique dishes from the region. The best place in town to taste the Payanés food flavor!! Mora Castilla is a place where you can find Popayán's typical food such as Empanaditas de Pipián, Tamales de Pipián, Carantanta, Salpicón between others. They have such a preparation style that takes this food to maximus tasty levels. Even though the place remains full because of the good food, you must visit it before you leave town, the staf is very polite whe take your order, serving and at check outs, he only thing they have as an opportunity is the time of serving the food, but also have takeaway servives that ussually are very good because the food is always fresh and deliver what you aks for. Prices are higher than in other places but they guarantee you a safe food (with biosecurity prep) and good taste. In current pandemia time they are open and have both in site and takeaway services.

The Museo Arquidiocesano de Arte Religioso, located in the heart of Popayan's historic center, is a captivating attraction for those interested in delving into the city's cultural and religious heritage. Housed in a beautifully restored colonial building, this museum boasts an impressive collection of religious art and artifacts spanning centuries. Visitors can explore a wide array of colonial religious art and immerse themselves in the history and treasures of the region.
Quite a bit of really great colonial religious art here. If you are into religious art or Latin American colonial history, then I really recommend you visit this place. The price included a guided tour for me but I'm not sure if this is always the case or if I got lucky as I was the only person there!

I was given a leaflet, and no further explanation, not very helpful when everything is in Spanish. In other places, the attendants tried to explain at least a little bit in a Spanish I can understand. There was also a question of why I had to pay 8000 pesos when the ticket said 4000. I was told this is a student ticket only. But there was no ticket for 8000 and I was not issued a receipt. In other places when they charged me double they gave me two tickets. I assume that it is all correct but it felt weird. The exhibit is the usual collection of religious art that can be soon all over this part of the world.
HELENE M — Google review
I didn't really enjoyed it alghough I had a private guide because I was the first visitor that morning. It was hard to fully enjoy the experience when your guide is trying to convince you that Jesus is our saviour and that the religion came to America to save them (from their current "ignorance" or "disbelief").

Each bite is enhanced by their signature aji de mani, a mildly spicy peanut sauce that perfectly complements the flavors.

The Restaurante Italiano Y Pizzeria in Popayan is a highly recommended eatery, known for its delicious dishes made with fresh local ingredients. The Swiss owner personally prepares a mouthwatering pasta puttanesca, while the Eduardo Santos dessert is a unique and enjoyable treat. Despite being overwhelmed with customers, the skeleton crew manages to provide good service. Although there may be some delays in getting drinks and placing orders, the food arrives quickly and hot.
We were happy to find this gem of a restaurant. The food was fabulous, we went for the almorzar on day and then went back twice for dinner. We highly recommend the cheese fondue and the pepper steak, both were very flavorfull. My husband is from Switzerland and the owner is also Swiss so it made our visits there even more special. We may go back for a fourth time before we leave.

Tourist trap. Food is way too expensive, even more than Rome downtown and not even close regarding flavor or ingredients. Even a simple beer it's overpriced. Service super slow and the place needs some care. I definitely DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL By the way. It's AMATRICIANA not Matricciana, some investigation about the food you want to sell it's the base.

One of our best experiences in a restaurant in Colombia in 7 weeks. We've had a Pizza Vegetariana and a Pizza Francesca, both delicious and generous (pequeña equals medium/large size in Switzerland), with a small salad included. The service was great!
Melodie L — Google review
It's a tourist trap. It's expensive for the area, incredibly noisy and overcrowded. And the food was mediocre. I had Lasagna bolognese and a pizza to go. The Lasagna was OK, but I'm not even sure it was prepared there. And the pizza was horrible, undercooked and doughy with not nearly enough sauce. Honestly it taste like gas station pizza
David C — Google review
Delicious pasta puttanesca made directly by the Swiss owner and a nice/unique Eduardo Santos dessert which I tried for the first time. The skeleton crew running the place was overwhelmed with customers however and took quite some time to even bring us our drinks and eventually our order.
David J — Google review
Excellent place. We went twice in as many days. First we had the cheese fondue, which was delicious and tasted exactly as it should, despite the distance from Switzerland. The second day we had pizza and the beef medallions in creamy mushroom sauce. Both portions were huge and made with great quality ingredients. Also, on both days the staff were lovely.

The food at this restaurant was the worst Italian food I have ever eaten in my life, and I have eaten a lot of Italian food. The ravioli tasted like soap. They were swimming in water, obviously not adequately drained. The service was lousy, as well. Don't waste your money.

Over approximately two hours, you'll explore hidden gems such as the UNESCO-listed Holy Week Museum and the beautiful University of Cauca's interior.
We really enjoyed our tour and got to know lots of facts about the city that we wouldn't have found out otherwise. You also get to go into some buildings you could never visit by yourself. Patricia had a lot of great stories and had a deep knowledge of the history of Popayan. We highly recommend doing a walking tour with Get Up and Go Colombia. Miguel gave us a really interesting tour around the beautiful ciudad Blanca! He told nice, short stories and we saw a lot of places. Would really recommend going with them to get to know the city. One thing though. We wanted to do the tour on Tuesday and we registered through their website the day before. When we waited in front of the church the next day, nobody showed up. Afterwards, during the night, we got an email which explained why the tour hadn’t taken place. It would have been nice to get this beforehand, so we weren’t waiting for nobody.. For us it was a big bummer to not be able to do the tour that day.

The daily menu generally has a chicken, beef or pork selection as well as a vegetarian option. The first course is soup, served with a large glass of freshly squeezed fruit juice. The meat entree is served with wonderfully prepared mixed vegetables, a pasta or rice, a few fried potatoes and a fresh salad. This is a great balanced meal. The dessert on the daily menu was home made strawberry ice cream served with a small portion of cake or brownie and is served with tea or coffee. Undescribably delicious! Great service! Again wonderful food! Owners Fernando and Stella speak very good English and are very accommodating to all of their clientele.

With my girlfriend, I went to this restaurant in December 2018, and we had a great time. Special thanks to the owner, Fernando, from Barcelona, for taking some time to chat with us: it was really interesting to hear his story and point of view about Popayán! Definitely come here if you’re looking for fresh and fairly priced Mediterranean food. The lunch menu is just 12.000 COP and it’s delicious! Thanks for not using single-use straws. Thanks for having a vegetarian option. Thanks for everything!

We went to Carmina twice: once in the evening for delicious pasta (for around 20.000-30.000 they have their standards and a bit more for specials) and once for the set lunch menu (I think it was 17.000COP) and it was both amazing. The pasta was the best we’ve had in South America. The set lunch was smaller than normal here in Colombia, but with really nice fresh ingredients and it included soup, a main, a dessert ánd some tea or coffee. Great place!

This place in particular is the fine example of colonial architecture through time and also a piece of History we want to share with tourists. The whole purpose of building this scenery from colonial times was to show Outsiders how proud We Are of keeping these Traditions and taking good care of them. We must remember that it Is a city that has been destroyed 4 times by 4 big earthquakes, every disaster takes its toll over the city taking away most of its cherish monuments. Anyway it is an attempt to preserve the memory of those buildings and of course, to Talk about the traditions and The people who lived un them.

Old Bridge Cauca is a historical gem in Popayan, Colombia. It stands as one of the oldest bridges in the country and holds significant heritage value. In the past, it played a crucial role in providing safe passage across the Cauca river for travelers and merchants along the northern route. Despite being somewhat neglected, its beauty still shines through, offering a picturesque sight near the Gabriela Mistral school. The bridge's true forgotten story adds an intriguing layer to its allure.
Ok
Jaime G — Google review
(Translated by Google) It is a historical heritage of the city, one of the oldest bridges in all of Colombia, to solve the Cauca ford, which on more than one occasion stole the lives or belongings of travelers and merchants, along the northern route. Despite the importance of the work, for which the Cabildo had received complaints and requests from payanese and foreigners since its foundation and throughout the 17th century and the first half of the 18th century, only until the period between 1769 and 1773 was it carried out its construction. Apparently the first designs, commissioned to the Jesuit architect Fray Simón Schenherr, were not fully executed because the successive floods of the Cauca River ruined the company on several occasions; But it was in the last quarter of the 18th century that the Cabildo and several contributors undertook its definitive construction, amidst the scarcity of economic resources to undertake it. The bridge's parapets or handrails were built in parts, at different times, as there were resources to do so, finishing them some thirty years later, at the dawn of Independence. For its maintenance, the Pontazgo tax was collected until well into the 20th century. When I look at the old bridge I can't help but think about the multiple situations that occurred there, from the thick jungle that occupied the place before its construction, the old bamboo and wooden bridges where travelers and parcels ran the risk of falling into the impetuous waters of Cauca, among others, such as the episodes of Independence. In fact, we all have some particularly significant memory in this place, even if it is as futile as that emptiness you felt when you were riding on the bus, and it passed over the highest part of the bridge at full speed.

Panteón de Los Próceres is a neoclassical masterpiece located near the municipal theater in the historic center of Popayan. It houses the remains of significant figures from Popayan's history and serves as a museum with three different sections. This iconic site is a must-visit for those interested in understanding Colombian history and the city's influence on the state constitution.
This place shows the Popayan heroes to the world. The place is a little small. Important names in the Popayan history can be found here. It could be good if a tour guide tells the history to the visitors, so we can know with details the history of this beautiful ground.
