Taman Ayun Temple, also known as Mengwi Temple, is a stunning Hindu temple and garden complex located in the village of Mengwi, Bali. Surrounded by canals, this picturesque site features shrines, pavilions, and ponds. Its strategic location makes it easily accessible from other popular tourist destinations in Bali. Built in 1634 by the King of Mengwi and later restored and enlarged in 1937, the temple's pool creates a floating impression around the complex.
The Sanctity of a sacred place can be preserved in so many ways - is what this temple showcases. The serenity, beauty and the space it owns as a mini forest gives you enough room to walk around… sit in silence…. Hear the sounds of forest music- “Silence” with the flutes of birds singing every now and then… 😊 The raw stone temples…. Surrounded by Lotus pond and the walkjng area around it with the forest around makes one nostalgic about the era itself…. Must watch ….. and people who love taking pictures…. SHOULD’nt Miss at any cost…

Very beautiful and well-maintained temple which is also part of the World Heritage UNESCO sites. The temple garden is very beautifully crafted, and entry to the main sanctum is not allowed for foreigners in every temple. You can visit the temple and witness the beautiful Balinese architecture. The temple was quiet and less crowded than other tourist places and temples in Bali. The entry ticket to this temple is 30k IDR.
Aniket A — Google review
Wow! Such a beautiful temple area. Entrance fee for foreigners is totally fine and definitely worth it. They also provide a Sarong for free. I took probably too many pictures but it’s a real gem. We came here shortly before closing time and hat the area almost for ourselves. If you want to see a beautiful Pura without driving to far out, this is it. Thank you for inviting us to witness some of Bali’s culture. 🙏🏻 Suksma
Melice K — Google review
Well maintained site of historical significance. You cannot go into the temple itself but a visitor path around the perimeter gives you a good view of the site. A viewing platform half way through the path offers good photo vantage point.
Emmanuel C — Google review
The place is really spacious and cool, with lots of tall trees. The entrance and parking are also easy. It’s not too crowded, so it’s nicer to explore, especially for those who enjoy exploring temples.

Tanah Lot is a traditional Balinese temple situated on a small rocky island, offering stunning views of the water. It is a popular tourist destination known for its beautiful location on the coast, surrounded by rocks and cliffs. The temple, which holds great significance for Hindu worshippers, provides breathtaking vistas of the sea. Tanah Lot is renowned as one of the best spots to witness mesmerizing sunsets in Bali.
It's a beautiful place. The atmosphere here is truly captivating. The grounds are large and well-maintained, with many interesting spots where you can capture a moment for a beautiful souvenir. If the weather is nice and there aren't many tourists, you can relax and soak up the atmosphere. The ticket price is undoubtedly good for this place. The best way to get here is by scooter. I also met guides who shared stories and guided tourists around.

Actually It’s a park which is a must place to visit and picnic while in Bali. Watch the high tides striking the cliffs and a beautiful sunset. An exquisite park to roam around and relax with some fine dining options. The temple is at some distance with no direct access and you don’t need to visit it

Tanah Lot Temple, Bali – A Majestic Sea Temple on the Rocks Tanah Lot Temple is one of Bali’s most iconic landmarks, renowned for its stunning offshore setting and mesmerizing sunset views. Perched on a rocky outcrop surrounded by the sea, the temple appears to float during high tide, creating a truly magical sight. Located in Tabanan Regency, around 20 km from Denpasar, Tanah Lot is a must-visit destination for travelers seeking a mix of spirituality, culture, and natural beauty. The name Tanah Lot means “Land in the Sea” in Balinese, perfectly describing its dramatic position. The temple is dedicated to the sea gods and plays an important role in Balinese mythology. Legend says that it was established by the 16th-century priest Dang Hyang Nirartha, who built it after being inspired by the beauty of the coastline. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking ocean views, especially during sunset when the sky glows in shades of orange and gold, creating one of Bali’s most photographed moments. During low tide, tourists can walk across to the base of the temple, explore small caves with sea snakes believed to be sacred protectors, and witness local rituals performed by Balinese priests. The area around Tanah Lot features beautifully landscaped gardens, souvenir markets, and several cliffside restaurants offering panoramic views. It is also a popular spot for cultural performances and traditional dance shows held in the evenings. Tanah Lot is open daily, with the best time to visit being late afternoon to witness the sunset spectacle. Visitors are encouraged to dress modestly as it remains an active place of worship. In short: Tanah Lot Temple is not just a tourist attraction — it’s a symbol of Bali’s spiritual harmony, where nature and faith blend into an unforgettable experience.

Tanah lot temple is located in the sea side, one of the famous sea temples in Bali. Tanah Lot translates to "Land in the sea". The temple is built on a rock formation off the cost making it appear to float on the sea during high tide. It is famous for the stunning sunset views. Plan your trip to make sure that you will be able to witness the sunset from there. At the base of the temple, there is holy water which is guarded by snakes. We can enter here and seek blessings as well. There is lot of shops available for shopping near the entry and exit gates. Also, the famous traditional Balinese gate is there for photo shoots. Worth visiting 👍
Sreejith S — Google review
Must-visit when you’re in Bali! I went here around sunset, and it was absolutely breathtaking. What I really love about this place is that it’s not just about the view. It’s a complete experience. There are plenty of little shops selling local souvenirs and crafts, a variety of restaurants and cafés where you can grab a meal or a fresh coconut while enjoying the ocean breeze, and sometimes you can even catch traditional Balinese dance performances near the temple area. The energy and atmosphere here feel both peaceful and lively at the same time. It can get a bit crowded during sunset, but it’s worth it. Just take your time, find a good spot, and enjoy the moment. If you’re planning a trip to Bali, don’t skip Tanah Lot. You’ll leave with amazing photos and even better memories.

The church itself is beautiful. It's worth a visit. We were there during low tide, so we could get quite close to the church and even went to a part of it. To go up, the local priests must first bless you, and then they'll let you onto the stairs. I don't think the church itself is open to tourists. It wasn't crowded, which was also a plus.
Csilla S — Google review
Absolutely stunning place. The temple on the sea is beautiful. The waves crashing around the temple is fabulous. Has cafes and food also people selling there wares. Plenty of parking Sea views . Well worth a visit
Karin P — Google review
A must-visit cultural and scenic landmark in Bali! Tanah Lot is absolutely breathtaking, with the ocean. The coastal views are stunning, and the spiritual atmosphere adds a unique charm. One of Bali’s most iconic spots, this temple is stunning on clear days and at sunset. Expect strong winds and waves that add to its dramatic charm. Explore both sides of the temple for unique views. Nearby, a lively market offers reasonably priced souvenirs from local vendors There are a couple of special experiences here — you can view the holy snake (for a fee) and receive spring water near the entrance in the ocean. The area is popular with tourists, so expect crowds, but it’s well-managed with lots of local shops and stalls along the way. A beautiful blend of nature, culture, and tradition — highly recommended!

Specialty Museums
The Ogoh Ogoh Bali Museum, opened in 2013, is situated at the Soka Beach rest area in Tabanan. It showcases the ogoh-ogoh artworks representing Bhuta Kala, large and frightening figures symbolizing universal power and time. These statues are typically paraded during Nyepi Eve and some are preserved here after the parade. The museum displays over 20 ogoh-ogoh, including a massive one for photo opportunities.
Honestly, do yourself a favor and visit. The owner is very friendly and accommodated us by explaining the history of the statues, ceremony and took photos for us. Place is tidy and well looked after. There's so much detail and passion in these works of art. There is no cost, but a donation is much appreciated and will keep this museum open.

Normally you see ogoh ogoh only before Nyepi (The Silent Day) but here you can go everyday. Seeing huge and scary ogoh ogoh. No tickets needed but you are encouraged to give donation. Place is quite small
Loli E — Google review
Small and local museum, which shows really well the tradition of Bali with real demon statue. The quality is amazing, it was really impressive. This complements the Taman Ayun temple well. Also there is a warm welcome and kind people.
Maïa P — Google review
If you want to see ogoh-ogoh but you are a person who are looking to avoid large crowds or can't visit Bali during Nyepi, this place offers a fantastic alternative! They have a collection of over 20 ogoh-ogoh on display, including a massive one you can take a photo with. The ogoh-ogoh are incredibly detailed, standing tall at 3-5 meters and portraying God or fierce creatures. The owner is very knowledgeable and provides interesting insights about the ogoh-ogoh tradition. This museum is a fantastic resource to learn about and experience Balinese culture. The entrance fee is 20k IDR per person (as of March 2024). Please keep in mind since most ogoh-ogoh are crafted from styrofoam and paper, they are quite fragile. It's always a good idea to ask the owner before touching it. Outside the museum, there are hawker stalls selling variety of local food and beverages, so you can grab a bite to eat after your visit. Overall, I highly recommend visiting this place! I was so happy to see and take photos with Shiva, Barong, Rangda, and other cool ogoh-ogoh.

Cost Rp 10,000 for adults and Rp 5,000 for children to visit. Completely worth it!!! The owner informed me that for Bali New Year, people make these giant monsters, and whatever ones don't get burned he buys it to add to his collection. Pictures don't capture how giant and cool these are!!! If you like monsters, highly recommend checking this place out!
Comfy P — Google review
Terrifyingly stunning, a small but amazing museum and the only place you can see the ogoh ogoh not during the holiday. One of the highlights of my trip. Truly unique and fascinating. It's a small donation of 10'000 rupiah (i would give more).

Small museum with donation. Inside, many Balinese Ogoh-Ogoh in their full size. The details of every Ogoh-Ogoh was amazing. Kinda scary but very interesting. Worth to visit, and you can also visit the beautiful Pura Taman Ayun, just a walking distance.

This impressive 17-meter monument was erected in 1954 to honor the Puputan War Margarana, where the brave Ciung Wanara Battalion fought against Dutch forces under the leadership of National Hero Gusti Ngurah Rai.

A memorial park dedicated to heroes who had fallen in the war of Margarana, 1946, one of them is who we know as I Gusti Ngurah Rai, he led battle in frontline. Since the war happened long time ago, there's not much activity going on in this place, only some few people visiting their ancestors graveyard and all feel so peaceful and serene. There's a big monuments, plenty amount of graveyards and some ponds to feed the fishes.

There are some vendors and restaurants to serve you food and drinks. We met some very friendly locals who recommended some other places nearby to stop and enjoy. 5/5

This place is not a real grave, just monument of our big heros that fought for our freedom. Around 1,372 heros fought in 1945 - 1950 and they came from all around Bali. The hall for meeting also available I front of the monument. Inside the monument, fish pond surround the monument that collect some historical clothes and weapons during the war. Museum Yadnya, located within the Pura Taman Ayun complex, is a unique establishment that delves into the life-cycle rituals of the Balinese people. Since its inception in 1974, the museum has been dedicated to showcasing various objects and artifacts that shed light on the traditional Hindu ceremonies and customs observed throughout a Balinese individual's life.
This is an excellent place to learn about balinese culture and rituals. It was free with a guided tour and it was one of the highlights of my trip. If you have an interest in Balinese culture (which you should) I can't reccomend it enough. Pura Gede Luhur Batu Ngaus is a Hindu temple located on Mengening beach in Mengwi. The temple, constructed in the 17th century, boasts traditional Balinese architecture and sits atop a black lava outcrop. It is known for bestowing blessings pertaining to fertility and medicine, similar to the famed Tanah Lot temple. However, Pura Gede Luhur Batu Ngaus enjoys less tourist congestion than its popular counterpart.
A nice peaceful alternative to going to tannah lot, While its a small temple and most likely not accessible to enter unless there are people inside; its setting is beautiful and spectacular. The land brigde connecting the islet to main land is large and decorated with statues. You can walk around the right sidevof temple between wall an the sea an see sea arches, coves and fishermen and also get a glimpse of tannah lot off in the distance. The road there is quiet and very scenic as opposed to tannah lots grid lock and starbucks.

Very beautiful unique temple at the black sand ocean side. Lanscape is amazing but there is a lot of trash and debris. If it would be cleaned, it would be one of the must see places.

Be there from 17:00 / 05:00 pm. Make sure you have your own vehicle or that someone can come and pick you up when you're finished. No gojek will come to pick you up there at night, while they can drop you during daytime. You can't go into the temple but you can climb the big rocks and walk the beach on the right side when you face the ocean. Cross the river, walk a bit further and watch the sunset turning into night while sitting on the soft black sand. No loud music, close to nobody on the beach, no beach clubs. Only you, the waves crashing, the wind, the sunset colours and then the cosmos above. The most magical expérience.

This iconic site, perched on an island, offers a unique experience at low tide when you can stroll out to admire its beauty up close. As the sun dips below the horizon, Tanah Lot transforms into a breathtaking spectacle, providing one of Bali's most picturesque backdrops for photography as it glows against the ocean's shimmering waves.

Be warned, the temple on Tanah Lot is inaccessible to tourists. Even after "donating" for some water ritual, all you can access is a small flight of stairs to a closed gate and you will start wondering what those water ritual is all about. We were later told that the temple is only open to Balinese for prayer. If they had told us earlier or a simple sign board stating this, I would have skip that water ritual plus "donation" which felt more like a tourist trap. Just walk around the beaches which is pretty nice.
John T — Google review
Amazing temple on the rocks just slightly out in the water. Need to come when low tide to get across as the path is closed at high tide. Best to bring a pair of sandals so you can change in case the water is coming in. You get blessed the bottom by the priests and then you can go a little way up the steps but not right to the temple. Great views by the temple ND around the grounds. There are some restaurants up on the cliffs that over look the temple. There is also a market as you walk from the entrance to the temple.

“Breathtaking View & Magical Sunset” Tanah Lot Temple is truly one of Bali’s most iconic landmarks! The temple sits beautifully on a rock formation surrounded by the ocean, and the view during sunset is simply magical. It’s a perfect spot for photography. Tip: Visit during low tide if you want to walk closer to the temple There are also small shops and cafes nearby to relax and enjoy the scenery. A must-visit when in Bali! 🌅 Ticket for whole area : Foreign adult (international visitor): IDR 75,000

SHIVAM S — Google review
Entrance is a bit pricey, seeing that they want you time spend more money inside on souvenirs (some very persistent vendors), toilet entrance fees and donations at the temple. Pity that temple is currently closed for renovations. Great views and a good experience, but for me personally a bit underwhelming.

Pura Tanah Lot is simply breathtaking! 🌊🏯 The temple’s location right on the rocks by the ocean makes it one of the most iconic sights in Bali. Visiting during sunset is pure magic 🌅✨ – the colors, the sound of the waves, and the silhouette of the temple create an unforgettable atmosphere. Even with other visitors around, the place feels peaceful and special. A must-see for every Bali trip! 🙌🌺

Religious destination
Taman Beji Griya Waterfall is a unique destination near Ubud, recently opened in 2022 but with carvings that give it an ancient feel. It's a 30-minute drive west of Ubud and offers a magical experience. Visitors can participate in the Melukat water purification ceremony for a fee, which includes a private guide, traditional offerings, and the opportunity to partake in spiritual rituals while wearing traditional dress.
Such a unique experience when visiting Bali. Would definitely recommend for first time visitors to try and experience Melukat, it just feels different (in a good way) after the ceremony. ++ my guide Odee is very helpful and enthusiastic in explaining the whole process and so good in taking my photos/videos. You don’t even have to tell him to take photos because he’ll proactively do it. Thanks for this wonderful experience I’ll never forget. 💛
Ivo — Google review
Pretty cool experience with the cheapest and basic cleanse being 300k per person. This does come with a complimentary drink at the end along with traditional clothing, locker space, and a towel. The guide was very friendly and took some cool photos. They really know how to work the different camera features but it would've been nice if they spammed the photos so we would have more options to choose from. A lot of our photos were super cool but would usually have us not properly positioned or blinking This is definitely a huge social media activity despite it being a religious activity so be aware that they will constantly record and take your picture which is both good and bad because it helps capture the scenic memories but also ruins the vibe

It's a sureal experience once in my life time to held a Melukat Ritual here at Beji Griya Park Waterfall. The ritual not only teach us how to value a human as part of nature, but human as the leader of themself also. The misk make everything looks like from the other dimension, and the solemn felling came rushing from the sound of water and silentness. We recommending to use a private course, and come to waterfall as early as possible to make sure not to line up too long and getting a true significancy of the Melukat.
Lintang P — Google review
Don't worry about the price; it's an incredible experience; you'll never experience it again. With a guide, you'll experience a kind of soul-cleansing experience. The guides are very helpful and take incredible photos. They deserve a tip. You witness how people worship the gods they believe in.

I visit the temple with my family. Despite the fact that it is a bit touristic (we had to wait one hour to get started - there is a restaurant serving good food and juice at a good price) it was a great opportunity for our kids to discover new beliefs, gods and cultes. We did the purification ritual, which consists of giving, praying, releasing bad energy, increasing good energy and holy water benediction. Other rituals are available such as trauma healing ❤️‍🩹

It’s one of the most incredible moments for me altering living in Bali for 7 months. I was emotionally connected with all Devine energy and I love my guide Diya (spelling is wrong) she is the pure ambassador for this place. Loved the pictures and video .

I went on a weekday morning, and it was super amazing experience! The guide Ngurah ABS was super nice, took lots of videos and photos. When I come back to Bali I definitely come back. The facility is very clean, has locker, towel etc. So it’s recomendable for everyone :)
Mari T — Google review
The waterfall is stunning and the experience is very cool, but they have definitely sold out all bits of culture and now the guides are more focused on taking pictures than the actual meaning of the ritual. If you’re focused on pictures only then this is your place. If you want a truly amazing experience then they’ll your “guide” in advance that you want to experiment the moment and don’t need 100 pictures at the end.
