The Canal du Midi is a 240-kilometer waterway that stretches from Toulouse to the Etang de Thau, featuring 63 locks and 350 engineering structures. Travelers can enjoy tranquil journeys by cycling along the old towpaths or leisurely cruising on a barge, taking in the picturesque French landscapes of lush fields and charming villages.
Great route for cycling, Bordeaux to Narbonne ( jumps about a bit in places but not difficult to get back on track). Shady for much of the route and flat throughout, taking in beautiful towns and countryside.
Gavin M — Google review
Canal Du Midi from Toulouse to Narbonne. By bike September 2019 This is a great experience and very physical intensive.but a lot of joy and a good way to strengthen your body. The first step from Toulouse to Castelnaudary it's quiet relaxed and the path on the side of Canal du Midi make it easy to get along. But you always hear the high way where the cars making there own sound but still you feel happy peddling along the old Allees beside the water. The following route to Carcassonne needed more Intension for the path it was paved with little stones, occasionally some roots and wholes make it difficult to bike fast. The third part till Narbonne was even more difficult and because of some tree disease they had to cut almost all the old trees and planted new once but this couldn't give you an enjoyable feeling. The good part was that the high way was to fare away to hear. Nevertheless the people you meet on the Canal Du Midi in Bike, Hiking or on a Boot are always very friendly and all in all take as much time you can to be able to explore the villages on the Canal try the good food and the great wine they produce in the area and look out that you have always enough water with you.
Friedbert R — Google review
The quiet tree shaded bicycle path along the canal is a dream for cyclists.
Seimen B — Google review
Picturesque, slow pace, towns adjoining, a very French experience. We enjoyed our stay, 10 days was too brief even with two days before and after in central Toulouse, 14 total.
Jim H — Google review
I preferred the section away from the road. The staircase lock we passed was interesting. The locks are big as the vessels passing through are also a fair size. The canal is perhaps a little over 10m wide.
Gary K — Google review
I expected some slightly better surfaces. Most of it was quite poor, with potholes, rough large gravels and tree roots. It's also badly signposted in places. Don't try it with normal road tyres. Most people were on electric bikes with fat tyres. I won't be back.
Boberto J — Google review
A bucket list exsperience and must do. Relaxing holiday by selfdriven boat while enjoying southern France's vinos and old villages.

Keep in mind the canal is not a single point on the map, the pin took me somewhere random that wasn’t that pretty

Cité de Carcassonne is a historic citadel with a rich history dating back to Gallo-Roman times. This UNESCO World Heritage site is renowned for its impressive double outer walls stretching over 3 kilometers and adorned with 52 defensive towers. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes from the inner ramparts.
Very beautiful Medieval Castle with very charming narrow roads. Highly recommend the guided audio tour which is super convenient to navigate as it starts automatically every time you enter a new area. Once you walk the ramparts I recommend to walk also the full round back to the main castle it is worth it.
Adrian R — Google review
An absolute highlight. The castle town is like in every childrenbook. Wouldn't be surprised, if a dragon arrives🙂. It is really like in a tale. All the towers with the roofs and the big large walls. A walk along the wall is more than 3km and take about 1 hour. Its included in the castle entrance. The cite can be freely visited all time. The castle is separate and has normal ooening hours. Entrance is 19€. But its worth it. You get a lot infos on boards with drawings about defense systems and reconstruction of the site. The cite is full of shops, bars and restaurants. An cathedral can also be visited. I recommand 2 visits. One fir castle and wall. Other in the evening for diner.
R. A — Google review
This is an amazing place to visit, lots to see. I would encourage anyone going to visit the castle and get the audio guide. So much information to listen to, both in the castle and and as you walk the walls. It really explains the history and development of the place. There's far less info on the few signs dotted about. Lots of places to eat and buy souveineers in the city and so many things to photograph.
Karl T — Google review
A really cool place to visit in the fall when the tourists are gone. I walked around at my leisure then took the Privilege tour which takes us in basements and other restricted areas to learn more about the history of the place. It was worth it. The only mild disappointment was the restaurants. I nearly cried when I realized that I can make a better cassoulet than what I had been served. I love cassoulet and was hoping to have an out of body experience in the birthplace of this dish. It was ok but not mind-blowing... If you like jogging, there's a nice trail around the walls where I enjoyed gorgeous views. In shoer, great place to visit but eat in town if you want to experience gastronomy.
Pascal B — Google review
Wonderful"village" inside the walls, free to enter, not too busy and very historic, full of food outlets, and seemed to be reasonably priced. Beware if cycling up and leaving bikes outside, we parked and there was a cut lock on the cycle stand, when we came back another couple returned and they had had their bikes stolen, seemingly a few minutes before we arrived, so ensure you have a very secure lock.
Tony K — Google review
A lovely medieval town surrounded by well preserved ramparts with a wonderful view of the city and countryside.a magnificent amphitheatre and beautiful manicured gardensz The castle is so interesting and the tour is well worth doing. Lots of restaurants, souvenir shops and cafes within the walls.
Frances R — Google review
The best medieval city ever. It's a must place to visit. You'll not be disappointed. Worth the entrance fee into the castle. There's plenty of parking too
Tracey B — Google review
Absolutely stunning. Loved our visit here. Paying the extra €13 to walk the remparts/walls is absolutely worthwhile. One of the best places that I've ever been to.

Le Parc Franck Putelat is a boutique four-star hotel located in the heart of Carcassonne, near the historic ramparts. The hotel offers sophisticated rooms and suites with private terraces, creating a woodland retreat ambiance. Guests can indulge in the award-winning, double Michelin-starred restaurant La Table, serving contemporary cuisine and seasonal dishes. The hotel also provides onsite massages, a terrace, garden, complimentary Wi-Fi access, concierge services, and babysitting options.
Beautiful and unexpected experience. A last-minute decision to visit Carcassonne led us to book this hotel. Our breakfast was beautifully prepared with high-quality, fresh local ingredients and the artisinal craft of baking. The outdoor seating meanders through the garden. The staff was very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable . The room was comfortable, well-appointed, and relaxing. It is well located with a shortage walk to the historic city.
Kym A — Google review
Service a little wooden but attentive. Food was an experience but at the same time somewhat underwhelming. A bit too much of a focus on telling us all about Putelat's history and other properties...suppose that can't be avoided! Restaurant ambiance delightful.
Síona B — Google review
Had a spectacular meal here. So many fun things to eat! We had the menu for first time visitors and highly recommended it. Great value and very delicious 😀. The cheese tree was amazing!
Sarah M — Google review
The food was as bland and bored as the decor. For me to say food is bland, as someone from the Midwest, should tell you what you need to know. The only people enjoying the atmosphere and evening appeared to be the young boy and his dad playing checkers together, which, sadly, was the highlight of the evening. We had the 8 course tasting menu with wine paring. I have never been more disappointed or unimpressed by food. After the pre-appetizers and bread, nobody looked excited or even pleased with their courses, we certainly weren’t. There was nothing exciting about the dishes, especially the flavors. The trout was fishy and bland. The pigeon was chewy and bland. The texture of the squid was the oddest I’ve ever had and the flavors were mediocre. Even the chocolate dessert was fishy, as it had anchovies in it. The wine was good and the staff were attentive. That is, until our courses were complete and we politely mentioned that we were not impressed or overly pleased with the experience. Then we were ignored, with empty water and it took quite a while to flag anyone down to get our check. Sadly, a very disappointing experience.
John F — Google review
The reception staff is very arrogant, the reception managers thought that we did not understand French and discussed our issue in a derogatory manner. We received a refusal to all our questions and only after persistent requests a solution was found. We tried to communicate with a smile but all answers were very arrogant. Nothing to do with hospitality but more like we were in a government agency with officials who were deciding whether to give us any benefits or not Also, they did not want to let us, hotel guests, onto the terrace, which the hotel shares with the restaurant. There was not a single person there, and we just wanted to seat in the fresh air before going to bed. In the rooms only paid water in the minibar, there is not even a small complimentary bottle, considering that there are no shops near the hotel. However, we liked the room itself
Realtor V — Google review
Lunch, magnificent. We had the 60 euro lunch (one main one dessert) which sounds like you'd go away hungry, but the many tiny amuse bouche (8 I think) with wildly complex flavours (cherry stuffed with olive tapinard) completely filled out the experience. With two glasses of wine each and a digestive schnapps at the end we finished on 220 euros for two and it was worth every cent, would go back every time we're in Carcassonne. Staff very professional and helpful, and seemed happy which isn't always the case in France, we were even invited to meet the chef in the kitchen (very The Menu kitchen). Really cool toilets (judge a place by the little things, the stuff they do well but didn't need to). Recommended, in fact I'd say it's a must if you are anywhere near Carcassonne.
Jonathan M — Google review
We dined here as part of the Preface Menu designed to make food of this quality accessible to young people. We had specific dietary requirements, which were catered for without hesitation by the chef. From entering it was apparent that the resturant was maintained to the highest standard, nothing was out of place. The staff were friendly, accommodating, gave and tremendous recommendations. The food is without doubt the best I have ever eaten, its creative, presented immaculately and if course in terms of flavours, wow. The combination of sometimes unusual ingredients, really shows the mastery of the chefs. Every dish was so well balanced. I could not recommend this place enough. Congratulations to all the staff, the memories of eating here will last a long time.
Sam L — Google review
We have just returned from a short stay at Hotel Le Parc. I cannot speak highly enough of the service we received from all the staff, but particularly from Marie and Louanne who looked after us throughout our stay. Everyone was really friendly and welcoming but also highly efficient and professional. The rooms are a great combination of luxury and minimalism. We also had a private patio, with a jacuzzi, which we made very good use of. We ate in the restaurant only once on the evening of the Fete de la Musique. The menu was innovative, exciting and provocative. Chef Plutelat is well worth his michelin stars. We will return soon.

Guests can enjoy a complimentary breakfast and may even find extras like milk and eggs in their room's tiny kitchen.
We ordered two salade biquette, a cassoulet maison, and a crêpe à la crème de marrons. They were delicious and plentiful. The service was friendly and efficient. We definitely highly recommend. The bad reviews are not deserved.
Jay P — Google review
The food and service were much better than some of the reviews suggest. The cassoulet was tasty but perhaps a little salty. Not a huge portion but that's fine.
Gary F — Google review
1,8 average is fully deserved! The Personal is rude and we waited 20 minutes for our drinks. The appetites came with the main meal, the egg wasn’t fully cooked and the beef was awful. I told the servant I want my beef medium rare- lucky to say, I got a beef with the concentration of a chewing gum. Do yourself the favour and look for another restaurant!
Kaspar — Google review
The food itself is not delicious. The service is in the average. It’s in the center of castle so we can’t complain the quality. At least, they are efficient.
Rio C — Google review
Had lunch here , pretty busy. Staff were under great pressure, so not very friendly. I'm sure on less busier days they might be a little more friendly. The Cassoulet was absolutely delicious. Very tasty. My husband had a cheese omelette which he also enjoyed. Nicely situated with the cité. Merci
Deirdre M — Google review
If I could give you 0 I would. Very sad to say this city is so beautiful but the people in many of the restaurants and bars of the old city are not. Rude and unpleasant. I wanted to sit outside “it’s reserved” so I sit by the window. THEY THEN CLOSED THE WINDOW. So I then decided to leave. “Bye bye” the waitress said in English mockingly. Well bye bye to you too! Sad but this whole city is full of such places. Found somewhere nicer shortly after!
Max S — Google review
Sat down to eat here as it was open after normal luncheon hours. Instantly noticed that the hostess was behaving strangely like she was drunk or worse. We then saw the reviews online which made us worried. The service was actually quite quick. The salad was a salad. The cassoulet was meagre in meat and pretty bland but not the as bad as the reviews make out. Set meal for two plus Demi-carafe was €46. The horror house next door was probably the worst part of the meal, made an absolute racket outside for all to hear.
Louise K — Google review
I ordered beef steak, fries and salad. Waiting time for the food is was so long. Meat was chewy and hard. Fries was over salted. Salad had too much oil. That was awful and not eatable. I don't recommend.

La Brasserie Du Dome - Chez Fifi is a charming eatery nestled in the heart of Carcassonne, perfect for those looking to indulge in local flavors. Housed in a former brewery, this delightful brasserie boasts a cozy atmosphere and has become a favorite among locals. The menu features an array of delectable dishes, with highlights including their renowned homemade cassoulet—a hearty dish that showcases duck leg confit, Toulouse sausage, and tender pork pieces.
Visited in the last hour as arrived late to Carcassonne. Wanted to taste the local specialty - cassoulete - and it was amazing! I must say i was very hungry, but it was huge and i couldn't finish it...but tried. Specially tasty was a duck leg confit, and also Toulouse sausage and pieces of pork. Again, just this meat was too much for me, be i eat it all in the end. With glass of red wine recommended by waited i was very satisfied from this dish.
Tomi V — Google review
The local dish the casoulette was tasty, although the tartar is not recommended. It's not prepared, just few of ingredients and you have to mix it yourself. For this I wouldn't ask it in restaurant, I would prepare it at home. As well, the place is full of flies
Elena G — Google review
Cosy and comfortable restaurant, a good place to try French cuisine and the local specialities. The place is more frequented by locals, being a bit off center. The food is good and comes in big portions and sensible prices. Try cassoulet, which is a speciality of Languedoc and is a dish with meat and beans, slowly cooked in a casserole. Dog friendly
Irene C — Google review

Nice atmosphere and the waitress (both) was very nice. The older man seems a little grumpy and gets even more grumpy if you have bad french (quite funny really). The food is good and the prices are reasonable. Recommend the salads and the coffee is of good quality. Seems like a lot of locals go there which is a good sign.

Good food, good service and friendly staff. We decided to have both the starter and mains special of the day both were excellent. Our starter was an excellent salad, our main course was pork cooked on the rib with onion and mushroom along with fries, pork was really succulent, we finished our meal with tarte tatin as French a desert as you can get. Finished off with coffee and local Carcassonne liqueur creme de menthe, liquid after eight, all this for around €40, if we return to Carcassonne we'll be happy to return here.

We had great expectations for this place. We bought some of their home made cookies and caramels. We could hardly taste the almond and pistachio in what were supposed to be three different kinds of almond and pistachio cookies. And they were all hard. The two types of caramel we tried were overly sweet. In the end we were very disappointed especially after paying premium prices for our gourmandises.

Centre commercial Rocadest is a new and spacious shopping center located past the castle in Carcassonne. It offers a variety of shops, including a large supermarket chain, making it a convenient place for shopping. The center also features free parking and is easily accessible from the motorway. Visitors can enjoy browsing through different stores and grabbing a coffee at the bagel cafe while exploring this clean and modern shopping destination.
A new shopping development can be very busy on Saturdays. Plenty of free parking.

A few shop's that were opened on the 04/05/2022 saw clients and potential clients. ***PMR*** Progress to have access to the pavement next to the routes. TOO HIGH not just for wheelchair access, parents with young family members in pushchairs etc. In front of the store's that were opened customer's had the choice to use the steps, the large slope or for me the mini ski slope set in the beautiful garden landscaping. The C Cial is still underway. NO Bus routes or Bus times yet. NO bus drop off and collect sites are available as they were under construction. Signs that are in place are covered by black plastic. Routes are dead ends. One way routes were seen by drivers to be accessed in both directions. The parking area next to the Feu Vert store and work shops I watched this amazing spectacle unfold. It soon became the unofficial route to turn around in. Very confusing for every driver. They all seemed to cope with this unusual challenge with good humour & no accidents.

Highly recommended brew pub, perfect stop off on our way to the airport. Line 7 from Carcassonne rail station/town centre on the bus takes about 20 minutes. Then 15 minute walk to airport. Amazing selection of drinks, especially for the real ale drinkers out there, delicious bar food, excellent service!

Fantastic place with great beers, a perfect pre-airport drink before a flight! You can take RTCA bus line 7 from the train station and get off at "Henri Mouton" stop and you're right outside. Then it's a 15 minute walk to the airport!

MONOPRIX CARCASSONNE is a one-stop shop offering a wide range of products including food, wine, fresh produce, toiletries, and clothing. It's comparable to a large supermarket like Tesco or Sainsbury's, with an impressive selection of groceries and a decent variety of clothing items available for purchase.
Staying in Carcassonne for a few days, and visited twice - a bit surprised by the 12:45 Sunday cut off for buying wine, but rules are rules! Apart from that, impressed by the quality of goods on offer and purchased, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

This is a terrible place to buy groceries. They need to decide if they are a clothing store or a food store. Right now, they do neither very well. Bad checkout experience.

A decent grocery and home goods store in the center of Carcassonne. A nice selection of meats, vegetables and supplies if you are boating the Canal du Midi and stopping in Carcassonne. Be sure to weigh and label your fruits and veggies before you get to the register to pay. 😬

I love monoprix and always visit when in France, but my experience just now has left me feeling very disappointed. I called up the Carcassonne store to see if they stocked a product that I'd seen online as I was only in town for one day. The guy who answered the phone hung up on me twice before I even had a chance to ask my question. Then didn't bother answering the third time I called. My french isn't perfect but I tried my best, but didn't expect such rude service. It seemed he couldn't be bothered to help someone non french. Shocking. I appreciate Virginie responding but it seems she is having to do far to much apologising for bad experiences. Maybe a new approach is needed.

We are staying in Carcassonne for a few days so popped in to pick up a few picnic items. To be honest I was slightly worried about reviews that talked about aggressive security and a poor attitute from staff. Our experience could not have been further from this. The store was very clean and there were no bag checks on entering. There is a great selection of food, drink and toiletries etc at reasonable prices. There is also a clothes department and household items. Whilst waiting to pay I was struggling to identify where the empty baskets went and the very pleasant and helpful security man noticed my confusion, came over and with a big smile took it to the correct location for me. Thank you for that! The cashier was also really pleasant, helpful and patient with our regrettably limited French. Thank you also! A great experience and highly recommended to all.

Visiting France, Monoprix is always the place we visit the most, but this one here in Carcassonne is very disappointing. Today, I entered the store after making a purchase at Carrefour, but I was immediately approached by an unfriendly security guard who insisted that I leave my bag at the front. Despite my explanation that I had just arrived, a lady working there quickly glanced at my bag and remarked, "We sell these items too." I felt pressured to leave my bag at the front, which made me, as a paying customer, feel immediately distrusted. This experience left me incredibly disappointed and upset, as I was treated as if I were a thief. The staff working here (on July 16) need to reconsider how they approach customers. Regrettably, I will not be coming back to this Monoprix store again, and I cannot recommend it to others.
Julia F — Google review
Unacceptable Security Behavior at Monoprix Carcassonne I am writing to express my extreme disappointment and frustration with my recent experiences at Monoprix Carcassonne. On two separate occasions, I entered the store only to be aggressively followed by security personnel. This situation was not only embarrassing but also deeply uncomfortable. As a customer, I expect to be treated with respect and dignity while shopping at your establishment. However, the behavior exhibited by your security staff completely violated these expectations. It felt as though I was being targeted and harassed, which is entirely unacceptable. I believe it is crucial for Monoprix to maintain a welcoming and inclusive shopping environment for all customers. Incidents like these not only tarnish your store's reputation but also make customers like me feel unwelcome. I strongly urge you to address this issue promptly and take appropriate measures to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future. Customers should feel safe and valued when visiting your store, and I hope that Monoprix will take this matter seriously and take corrective actions immediately.

(Translated by Google) Hello, I went to Chaussea in the Salvaza area. I am really disappointed because, on the one hand, when asking for advice, you get the impression that you are bothering them. After that, you get the impression that they want to get rid of customers quickly. After that, for my son, I found a pair of sandals that were a bit too big, but I couldn't really ask for help because we felt like we were bothering them. After that, when I got to the checkout, they told me yes, you are entitled to 25% off for your 45th birthday, except that I am charged but they don't give me the discount. The problem is that there is a lack of professionalism and a lack of professionalism when talking about promotions, so it's all well and good to send text messages and so on, but when it's on site in the store, unfortunately, there is no one there, and they can't even reimburse you because supposedly it's in cash. I find this unacceptable given that it's the cashier and the saleswomen who are at fault. In addition, the staff are very unpleasant. I really regret that Chaussea, which is located in the Pont Rouge area of Carcassonne, is closing because they were very friendly and took the time to give good advice and were helpful. Goodbye. What a shame that the rude staff here do not value English customers when our Euros are the same as everyone else’s. We have had a lovely week in Carcassonne which was soured by visiting this shop on the last evening. I was watched like a hawk from the moment I walked in. No purchase was made despite lovely produce. Thankfully my wife argues in French as well as English and rightly so. In a world where online reviews are everything they will soon learn they can’t afford to be jumped up snobs. Avoid like the plague none of the nice products are worth their attitude.

We paid a visit to this shop today, and we're made to feel extremely uncomfortable by the member of staff serving us,| questioned the edge of the Brie looking dry (it obviously hadn't been cut lately ) and he arrogantly ignored my comment, all items we purchased led to annoyance by him, as we were not buying large portions,to the point of one item, which when I asked for a little less than he had placed in the pot, he rolled his eyes in disgust, NOT the way of expecting return visitors,he clearly does not appreciate that not ALL people warrant buying large quantities, and NOONE likes to be made to feel so unworthy ,especially when parting with hard earned cash!!

I had an exquisite experience at this gourmet store! The ambiance was charming, and the aroma of French delicacies was delightful. The selection of wines, cheeses, caviar, whisky, and local French products was unparalleled, and the staff's knowledge and friendliness were remarkable. They guided me to perfect wine and cheese pairings with ease. The gourmet delights were exceptional, with each item carefully curated for the best flavors. The choices of wines and olive oils were extensive, making it a haven for culinary enthusiasts. This store truly captures the essence of French cuisine and culture, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking the finest French flavors. Bravo!

Awful shopping experience. Admittedly lovely items in this shop, but our experience was tainted as the staff follow you very closely like you're a shoplifter. Making us feel very uncomfortable. We were also short-changed by €5 and the manager refused to even entertain the fact. Ps. Edit in response to reply below: this is an outright lie. We remember the instance very clearly, we we given 2x€2 and 1x50c. She left due to frustration, but I stayed to try and sort it out, but there was no willingness from the management to even consider they may have got it wrong. This highlights the sheer snobbery and dreadful customer service you'll experience at this shop. Proceed with caution!

The Carcassonne Townhouse features a king-sized bed and complimentary breakfast, perfect for travellers looking for a convenient location in the city. The historic building has been subtly updated with modern amenities, like free bike rental and walk-in rain showers, while still retaining its character.
Lovely stay at the house of a lovely host! The location is fantastic, I walked from the railway station (traveling by train). Just walk across the bridge and you're in the historic citadel. Plenty of restaurants to choose from within a 5-10-minute walk. Beautiful townhouse. It has a lot of steep stairs so if you have a problem with that you should ask for the ground floor room. The breakfast is wonderful! If I ever come back to Carcassonne, which I hope, I will definitely book here again.

Very happy with the choice to stay at the Carcassonne townhouse. It is perfectly located between the Cite and the newer town, with views of the river from the room. Ratchel and mark were great hosts, and recommend places to eat and visit. The breakfast was a delight, different each morning, but always with fresh located produce. In all a fantastic townhouse, in a wonderful location.

We have just returned from a one week stay at this beautiful Townhouse. The house is a characteristic southern French building that the owners have restored with great respect. The Townhouse is perfectly located right between the new and old town, meaning you can walk to either the old or new town within a few minutes. We stayed in the heritage suite and this is a large loft consisting of bedroom with a French balcony (large enough to stand on but not to sit on), living room and a bathroom. From the balcony we had a wonderful view of the old town. We loved that we got new towels every day, thank you for that, and the bed was also made nicely. The hostess is wonderful. She makes a different, delicious breakfast every day and is always very interested in what you're planning to do or have done the day in advance. She also has excellent tips on what to do and/or see in Carcassonne and the surrounding area. We also received very good tips from the hostess about restaurants in Carcassonne and these tips were great, we enjoyed this restaurant very much. It was also very nice to hear that the hostess had been on holiday near our home in the Netherlands a month ago (1200 kilometers away but it is a small world after all :) ) The room has no air conditioning but has 2 large fans. We had very hot weather the first few days (up to 41 degrees centigrade) so we needed these fans but it still was very warm for my girlfriend to sleep the first nights even though the bed was very good. Luckly after a few days he became better for her :). We can recommend this townhouse to everybody for visiting Carcassonne as well as the surrounding area of Carcassonne.
Jeroen S — Google review
Just the perfect location, room and hosts, 100% recommended. From our bedroom (room 5, 2nd floor) we had a view across the river to the old city, beautiful. Directions were good and self check-in was simple. The welcome next (and every) morning was warm and the breakfast each day was delicious and slightly varied. Breads, fruits, pastries, cheese meat / salmon, plus juice, tea & coffee, eggs and cereal if wished. It was nice to have chilled water in the fridge and tea available during the day, as well as the coffee maker in the room's own lounge. The old city was only a short walk away across the bridge - we visited every day for dinner or sightseeing. And the modern town is lovely too - a stroll to the station and canal for a canal boat ride, or wander around town, the museum and shops. A lovely stay - 2 things to note: the breeze in September was chilly, so bring a wrap or jacket for evenings. And if there's a restaurant you want to eat at, book ahead!

A gorgeous place to stay between the citadel and the town - easy walk to both. Rachel is a perfect host, her breakfasts were so good and the house is stunning. Beautifully set up and very relaxing. Plenty of local knowledge and recommendations too. Highly recommend.

If you plan to visit Carcassone, I highly recommend this place Location: near the center of town but far enough to have peace and quiet. It is farther from the castle but is still a doable walk. Parking: we got to park our car right in front of the door of the townhouse Breakfast: prepared by host Rachel: fruits with yogurt; bread from the local Boulangerie, cheese and cold cuts, cereal, coffee or tea, and juice Rooms: generous size. Large shower and bathroom, strong water pressure and hot water. Ambience: love the old feel of the hotel and the friendly welcome of Mark and Rachel. Felt like home away from home.

Cocoa & Grapes offers a half-day walking tour in Carcassonne, combining historical exploration with tastings of handmade chocolates and local wines. The tour provides an opportunity to learn about the city's history while enjoying wine and chocolate pairings. Carcassonne is situated in a prominent wine region, making wine tasting a popular activity. Participants can visit vineyards and wineries to experience the area's renowned wines.
This walking tour is a must for any visit to Carcassonne! Joyce was the most fabulous guide and we discovered parts of the city we would not have seen without taking the tour. The chocolate shop was beyond amazing and very reasonably priced for gifts. The wine tasting was brilliant and Mario’s pizza in The Tasting Rooms - well it was authentic Italian. Hadrian the owner is a character and his partner Sabine such a sweetheart. This tour had been recommended to me by a friend and it was definitely the highlight of our break. Make sure you take the tour with Joyce such a lovely and well travelled lady as you will enjoy it from start to finish and have many laughs along the way. Merci beaucoup Joyce for the laughs, the chocolate and of course, the wine 🥰🇫🇷

It's a great way to get to know the city in a more intimate way. We loved it!

We loved this tour! Brent was a great guide sharing some history about Carcassonne and making stops for chocolates & wine. Our final stop was a pizzeria where we sampled 3 wines and had a delicious pizza. He is knowledgeable and you can tell he enjoys his job! A nice way to spend the morning. I’m a non-drinker and he thoughtfully stopped and picked up some sparkling tea for me. Highly recommend!

What a brilliant way to spend an afternoon. We met at the allotted meeting point, where Joyce gave the tour some historical and scientific context, and then wandered into the Bastide to visit some great little chocolate and wine shops, all of which were off the beaten path and I never would have found in my own (despite having visited Carcassonne many times). It was all so relaxed and friendly, like going for a mooch around with friends but with the benefit of local knowledge. Crucially, there was a good mix of sitting/walking time, so I didn't feel worn out at the end like I often do on walking tours. Can't recommend highly enough!

(Translated by Google) This small market on Place Carnot offers a few stalls with essential products: vegetables, eggs, honey, meat, breads and pastries. All these market gardeners are organic producers. It is held three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) and pleasantly complements the large Saturday market which is held along the boulevard near the Porte des Jacobins as well as the covered market in the halls. (Original) Ce petit marché sur la place Carnot propose quelques échoppes avec les produits essentiels : légumes, œufs, miel, viande, pains et viennoiseries. Tous ces maraichers sont des producteurs bio. (Translated by Google) Italian ice cream, good, but does not justify 3.80 euros for the equivalent of two (small) scoops. The reception? Rudimentary. While, with my ice cream cone in one hand, my bag and my wallet in the other, I tried to leave the store, the salesman, standing like a candle in front of the door, did not make a move to 'open. It is true that his eye was quite reminiscent of that of a cow in the meadow, of those watching the trains go by. Jeff de Bruges should organize good manners training for his employees. As for the chocolates (low prices) I find them too gassy and too sweet. But that's a matter of taste.

What a beautiful and inspiring store! We were wondering around Carcassone and found this ceramics shop. It was run by--or featuring (I'm not quite sure which)--20 women ceramists. Everything was beautiful, and each ceramist's work different from the next. We were looking for something special to take away from our trip that isn't the usual tourist trinkets. We came away with two of the most beautiful mugs and a large salad bowl from two different artists. We will treasure these items. The woman managing the store was super helpful. The items were wrapped really well for travelling, and we were provided cards for each of the artists that we bought from. The prices were extremely reasonable. Highly recommend you visit Cité Potière if you are looking for something special to remember your time in the Occitanie region or for unique gifts to bring home.
