The Flying Horses Carousel, a Vineyard Preservation Trust property, is a historic antique carousel originally from Coney Island, NY. It has been in operation since 1876 and is the oldest continuously operated carousel in the United States. The carousel features stationary horses with real horsehair manes and tails, as well as iconic brass rings for riders to grab.
Fun and affordable horseback riding. Experience the Famous Flying Horses. Unfortunately, this horse was disqualified from ride due to this gelding behavior. Best boy ever! Mr. Handsome
Kriss S — Google review
Had to do it. It's a thing here at OB. $5.00 a ride though. Pretty steep. Horses do not go up and down. I didn't get the hype but it's done and we can move on
Lisa C — Google review
Historic site. Very busy. Great spot for kids. Pick up a copy of the Vineyard Gazette near the checkout counter and complete the Treasure Hunt.
Michelle C — Google review
If you ever find yourself on Martha’s Vineyard, you must stop by the Flying Horses in Oak Bluffs. It’s not just a carousel, it’s a piece of living history. Built in the 1870s and still going strong, it’s actually the oldest operating carousel in America. And when you walk into that little red barn and hear the music start, you feel like you’ve stepped straight into another time. The horses themselves are works of art, hand-carved, with real horsehair manes. They don’t go up and down like modern rides, but trust me, the magic is still there. Especially because of the brass ring game. As you spin around, you lean out and try to catch a ring. Most are steel, but if you snag the elusive brass one, mazel tov, you’ve earned yourself a free ride. That’s what happens to my son. It was so fun! And honestly, there’s something so joyful and pure about seeing both kids and adults stretch, laugh, and cheer each other on. What I love most is the feeling it gives you. It’s not about thrills or flashing lights. It’s about simple joy, shared tradition, and that sweet reminder that happiness is often found in the little things. Riding it with my family, I could feel generations before us doing the same, smiling and reaching for that brass ring. It’s not just a ride, it’s a metaphor for life. So yes, go ride the Flying Horses. Laugh, grab the rings, and let yourself be carried for a few minutes into a world where joy is uncomplicated and timeless.
Rabbi B — Google review
I visited Flying Horses many times during my childhood and look back on those experiences with fond memories. I was able to bring my family yesterday after not having gone for 20 years and I was amazed to see that it has remained the same and they have done an amazing job with preserving it. The only thing that has changed about this place are the prices and one ticket cost $5. The ride probably lasted around 3 minutes and you are essentially paying over 1.50 a minute. My family wanted to go for a second time but I could not see paying another $30 dollars. I recall going on it many times back in the day because it was so inexpensive.
Jennifer — Google review
Such a cool historic place to visit with this still active and beautiful carousel.

Beaches
Joseph Sylvia State Beach, located in Martha's Vineyard, is a picturesque two-mile stretch of sandy shoreline that gained fame as a primary filming location for the iconic movie 'Jaws.' Managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, this charming beach offers safe swimming conditions with its gently sloping shoreline and calm waters. Anglers can also enjoy excellent fishing opportunities for striped bass during warmer months.
Great beach, good vibes, jumping off Jaws Bridge is fun. But, water is cold at times. Enjoy!
Thomas M — Google review
Wonderful beach to take the kids to, very calm surf and a dedicated lifeguard area. Beach is carry in carry out, please take your trash with you and help keep the beaches clean!
Gray — Google review
Easy to get to. Parking nearby unless it's packed, then you'll have to drive, it's accessible by bike and bus Vineyard Transit Authority or if you want easier access take a taxi. No dog's are permitted on the beach, restrooms are the Oak Bluffs Steamship, no restrooms on the beach.
Mary G — Google review
Nice long beach, free parking on the street with access points. Can be busy during peak periods. Water is generally calm and clear. No toilets and only a small section has a lifeguard. Filmed in Jaws.
Paul M — Google review
This is a nice low key beach. No waves, parking along the road with a very short walk from the road to the beach. Nice to go and relax... Or jump from the Jaws bridge if you want a little adventure!
Emily M — Google review
Very narrow beach at high tide. Came across only two people who were avid fishermen. Too cold and windy to stay and enjoy. Nice long walking/ biking path that runs along the beach right across the road.
K — Google review
One of the most beautiful beach in MV. Crystal clear water, white sands....lots of seashells...during the morning is never crowded (except Sundays) and it happens to be alone at the beach. Really beautiful.
Arianna B — Google review
The depth of the beach in some areas is shallow and has somewhat limited parking, but the views and clear water makes the beach a really nice stop for most days. Even a night time visit is a great idea.

Mad Martha's Homemade Ice Cream on Martha's Vineyard is a charming and nostalgic spot offering a delightful selection of frozen treats. From classic to innovative flavors, there's something for everyone. The use of local ingredients adds an authentic touch to each scoop, making it a unique experience. Visitors can indulge in flavors like Chilmark Coffee while enjoying the cozy ambiance of the shop.
They had a very delicious and diverse selection of dairy-free options for ice cream! We tried all of them and thoroughly enjoyed each one. The flavor of the week, which featured raspberry, was my favorite.
Maryam S — Google review
Around 6PM I went in here for an ice cream and got one. Except the first lick had the ice cream in my hand, completely off the cone. I hadn't even left the counter yet. Then it was melted by the time I got back to the ferry (less than 5 minutes, and not even that hot out). By far the most depressing ice-cream-eating experience I've ever had. A fitting end for a disappointing day at Martha's Vineyard.
LavenderThe F — Google review
Mad Martha’s is an absolute must when it comes to ice cream. The second you step in, you’re hit with that classic, small-town charm—and the flavors do not disappoint. A special shoutout to the employee who recommended the Sinful Chocolate flavor. WOW. Rich, velvety, and decadent, it’s exactly what chocolate lovers dream about. Honestly one of the best scoops I’ve ever had anywhere
Will M — Google review
Probably some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. It’s the legit real deal. Heavy, thick, creamy. Loved it!
Charlie M — Google review
The ice cream itself was okay, though it could’ve had a bit more flavor. But the watermelon sherbet — wow! It was absolutely amazing, tasting just like Sour Patch Watermelon candies but icy, refreshing, and totally thirst-quenching.
K P — Google review
Classic New England ice cream shop, lots of interesting flavors (both classic and unique), and plenty of space to queue and eat. The speed of service was lacking and they could add a few more staff members on shift at minimal cost to the business compared to how much additional throughput they'd have.
Seth M — Google review
We strolled in on a Friday in October. The nice man behind the counter handled our party of six children so patiently. (Big decisions to be made, you understand.) Thank you! Absolutely delicious. Get the blueberry!
Olivia B — Google review
If you’re black then expect racist and biased service at this place. I had a prejudiced and frankly appalling customer service experience that I had at Oak Bluffs Mad Martha’s yesterday. The server who was working around 4pm on 8/9 was appallingly rude to both me and all of the other workers after I asked for a sample of the Cat Crunch flavor that is not common to ensure I liked it before buying. Every other customer being served (4 customers being served by 2 different servers on either side of me) were given a sample right in front of my face which is quite a normal gesture for an ice cream shop employee to do for a customer. These customers were treated with kindness and respect. The store was not busy with customers. Unfortunately when I then asked for a sample like the 4 other customers being served right next to me, this staff member proceeded to yell at me for asking for a sample and that I can’t have one, and when I pointed out that everyone else is holding a sample right in front of my face, she screamed at me and the other servers. The customer service from this employee was truly appalling and I will be leaving a 1 star review for your establishment unless the issue is somehow rectified. You tout inclusivity with a pride flag in your front door but yet you treat people of color with the utmost disrespect and differential treatment like we are still living in the Jim Crow era.

Coffee shop
Mocha Mott's, established by Mott Hinkley in 1994 and now owned by Tim Dobel and Meredith Aldrich, has two locations in Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. This popular coffee spot is known for its organic, fair-trade coffee, espresso, homemade baked goods, Cape Cod bagels, and seasonal specials like soups. The vibrant atmosphere at Mocha Mott's attracts both locals and tourists who come together to enjoy quality coffee and a good time.
Such a cute place! Friendly and helpful staff. Great Italian soda recommendation.
Carol W — Google review
The coffee was just okay — I was hoping for a bit more flavor. The ganache brownie was good, but it was wrapped in thin plastic wrap, which made it messy to take on the go and melted quickly in the heat. It also stuck to the brownie and affected the texture. A paper wrap or small bag would make a much better option for packaging.

Great breakfast had of mocha latte and veggie cream cheese (added fresh cucumber slices) on (toasted) asiago cheese bagel. 😋 All staff were very friendly and happy themselves … good vibes! Yeah, it’s raining men!

Love coming here every year for my morning coffee! This year I bought the clear tumbler and you get a free drink in it!! Food and coffee is amazing, and the store is super cute located underground. You should stop by if your in the area.

Wow, I can see why so many people love this place! The staff is beyond friendly and friendly works extremely hard to get everyone’s drinks and food out in a short amount of time. The bagel and coffee I had were delicious. This has to be the first stop for everyone coming into Martha’s Vineyard. Hope this helps!

Got a hot coffee and chai tea here and was very satisfied. Located in a quaint little shop on the middle of oak bluffs, it was the perfect spot for a morning pick me up. The shop is a little small so don’t be surprised if it’s hard to maneuver in there as it gets pretty busy.

Inkwell Beach, also known as Town Beach, is a historic African-American summer resort community in Oak Bluffs. It's a narrow sandy strip with a lifeguard and views of the ferry terminal. The beach offers picturesque surroundings and a leisurely stroll along the jetty, making it enjoyable even in colder months. Nearby attractions include Waban Park, The Overton House, and Flying Horses Carousel.
I have always wanted to come here after learning it was a black only beach. It's a small part of a beach but I wanted to place my feet there.
Mr. B — Google review
Swimming with the Polar Bears at the Inkwell is an absolute must-do! You'll kick off the morning with energizing aerobic exercises, all while soaking in culture, history, and thoughtful moments of reflection. This year, my husband joined me for the first time and was blown away by the experience. It’s something you truly have to feel for yourself—words can’t do it justice!
Nakema A — Google review
Inkwell is a lovely and serene beach in Oak Bluffs, MA. When we went in mid-August , the water was clear, warm and breathtakingly calm. Went for a 7:30am dip with the "Polar Bears". A perfect start to your day, for your mind, body, and soul. And all are welcome, even nonswimmers like myself. If that's not your thing there's also morning beach side yoga. Come and hear the days events and meet people from all over the country. The beach goers are a very diverse and friendly group, I felt instantly welcome!
Loren H — Google review
I love going to Oak Bluffs and visiting the beach. While I don’t swim in the ocean, I love just sitting in the beach and listening to the ocean.
Anne C — Google review
Visited here in August. Took a ferry ⛴️ to visit Martha’s Vineyard. The beach has a long stretch, very clean and for a weekday un August it wasn’t very crowded. Very close to the ferry dock.

Beautiful, calm and shallow enough near the lifeguard station to walk far into the water.

It's nothing special... Just another beach. There are much nicer beaches on the island if you're willing to travel! I do, however, like the fact that there is a boardwalk/sidewalk along this entire beach so when walking on the sand isn't an option, you may walk along the road.
J.R. F — Google review

The Gingerbread Houses in Oak Bluffs are a renowned collection of vibrant Victorian architecture that is exclusive to the area. These charming homes were originally part of a Methodist campground established in the 1800s and are celebrated for their elaborate wooden details, vivid hues, and captivating designs. Visiting this delightful community offers an opportunity to admire the unique and adorable charm of these historic residences.
This is a site worth visiting. The locals called the cotages I think. Some of the houses are regular size and some are tiny. It is interesting to see how they gave themes to some of them, for example, the cat house, the dog house, the wizard of oz and so on. In the middle there is a hige structure that looks like the meeting house. It is magnificent. I’ve never seen anything like this site anywhere. I recommend anyone to visit.
Yael C — Google review
Beautiful place to walk and take pictures! Shaded path, flat easy walk. Houses are all unique and well maintained. Well worth the visit! It took a bit of time to find the path from the main road. Needed to access it through breezeway between a store and a restaurant.
Michelle C — Google review
Visiting the Gingerbread Houses in Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard is an absolute must! It's exactly as charming as you'd imagine—a storybook village brought to life. The whole area is a network of small, traffic-free lanes lined with incredible Victorian cottages. We chose to explore this charming area by bike, and it was a fantastic decision. The lack of traffic on the small roads makes it a safe and relaxing place to pedal around. Each house is a work of art, painted in vibrant, cheerful colors with intricate "gingerbread" trim and unique details. Biking through the neighborhood feels like stepping back in time. Whether you're on foot or on a bike, you'll be completely charmed by its unique magic. You can truly feel the history and the loving care the residents put into these homes. It's a delightful, memorable, and peaceful attraction that perfectly captures the whimsical spirit of Martha's Vineyard.
Gi B — Google review
If whimsy had a zip code, it would live among the gingerbread houses in Oak Bluffs. Imagine a neighborhood where every cottage got dressed for Shabbat, lace-trim porches, joyful colors, and tiny stained-glass moments that catch the light like blessings. Walking those little lanes feels like strolling through a storybook that never outgrew its sense of wonder. Each house whispers, “Permission granted, to delight.” And yes, I listened. I slowed down, breathed in the sea air, and let the colors do what colors do best: lift the soul. It’s architecture as simcha, pure, unembarrassed joy. What I loved most wasn’t only the Victorian fretwork and candy-shop paint, but the way the whole place invites you to be present. Couples hold hands. Kids point. Grown-ups grin without realizing it. You don’t just see houses, you meet a neighborhood practicing radical hospitality with gingerbread trim. Pro tip from a rabbi who values quiet awe: go early morning or golden hour. Let the light bless the porches, and bring a camera (and your curiosity). You’ll leave with photos, yes, but more importantly, with that rare feeling that beauty is still very much alive and available. Verdict: A must-wander. As delightful as a perfectly baked kichel, and twice as sweet for the soul.
Rabbi B — Google review
Colorful little Gingerbread Houses, like something out of a dream. These cottages were small vacation homes, like the ones you find all over the world. But these ones are very special.

Farm Neck Golf Club, located on a peninsula on the eastern edge of Martha's Vineyard, offers golfers and visitors a picturesque view of Cow Bay. With well-maintained greens and fairways, this golf course has been operating for over four decades, providing a unique landscape and challenge for players. In addition to golfing, the club also offers amenities such as lessons, clinics, junior golf programs, tournaments, and six outdoor tennis courts.
It’s surprising that Farm Neck Golf Club has less than 100 reviews on Google because it truly deserves far more recognition. This semi-private course is the crown jewel of public golfing options on Martha’s Vineyard, especially in an area dominated by private clubs. If you’re visiting the island and searching for a semi-private well-maintained course with top-tier greens and exceptional dining, Farm Neck is unparalleled. The greens are pristine, a testament to the meticulous care put into maintaining the course. It’s challenging yet accessible, offering a fantastic experience for golfers of all skill levels. An added bonus? The quality rental clubs. For those who prefer to travel light, this thoughtful touch makes Farm Neck even more appealing. Over my many visits, I’ve grown to appreciate not just the golf but the overall experience. The Pro Shop is well-stocked, making it easy to grab mementos or essentials for your round. If this is a special trip with friends or family, consider picking up a keepsake to commemorate the experience. Farm Neck is perfect for those who summer on Martha’s Vineyard but don’t have a country club membership. It’s a welcoming, inclusive environment that offers everything you could want in a golf outing—great play, a friendly atmosphere, and impeccable amenities. If you’re considering golf during your time on the island, don’t miss Farm Neck Golf Club. It’s a place I return to time and time again, and I’m always impressed by the consistency and quality of the experience.

Ok. Farm Neck is completely lights out. The course is in amazing shape and the layout is fantastic. Views are ridiculous. It's a challenge, golf your ball. Now, let's get to the incredible staff. Super friendly, super helpful. This was an amazing experience. Have played a lot of cool places, Farm Neck way up there. It is worth every penny.
Joel L — Google review
Lives up to the billing. It is a little pricy, but a first-class golf experience. Service was fantastic, from the cart staff when you walk in to the wait staff at the restaurant. Course was in great shape. I'm not the best golfer, so I was a little concerned when they say pace-of-play is of key importance. I barely broke 100 and finished the round in exactly 4 hours. Never felt rushed, either. They spread the times out so it never felt like we bottle-necked. All-in-all, a great time. Keep your snacks stowed away, the crows will abscond with them! Found that out the hard way!
Danny O — Google review
Rental clubs come with lots of tees and you can buy balls and a glove inside. We went in May so there were no cart beverage service yet at that time, so recommend to get your drinks beforehand. Also there were a few temporary tee offs as they get ready for the busy season ahead.
Dana T — Google review
Great course all around. I stopped by to check it out on a rainy Tuesday , spoke with Lona who was outstanding, she offered great information , gave me a brief tour, and provided amazing customer service so much so that I returned on Wednesday and played and ausome round. The course was in great shape well worth every penny. Can't wait to come back and play again, highly recommended.
Wayne R — Google review
This is a great golf course. It's a real pleasure to play. I'd give it a five except it's over priced and they don't give you a discount if you walk. Today it was 80 with 87% humidity and they made us walk because it had rained this morning. I can understand that but they should then give you a break because you're not using a cart. It was brutal.
Eric S — Google review
We played in early June and the course was in great shape. Course is challenging but not too difficult for the “bogey golfer”. Played with a local resident who pointed out recent upgrades. Would definitely play this course again.
Thomas W — Google review
No only the best public course in Martha’s vineyards, it is also one of the best public courses I played at. Great pace of play, advanced golf carts, manicured golf courses, real bunker made of real beach sand, amazing staff. We will be back!

The Barn Bowl & Bistro is a lively establishment featuring a bar and eatery with a variety of food options such as burgers, pizza, and other bites. In addition to the dining experience, patrons can enjoy games, watch TV, and make use of the 10-lane bowling alley. Located in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard Island, it is known for its fun atmosphere and diverse menu offerings.
I picked this place since it seemed like a good sit-down restaurant in Oak Bluffs. Honestly, I was expecting bowling alley food because of the bowling alley, but it was quite nice! The servers were kind and one with lots of humor lol. I got the shrimp linguni and it was good, I just prefer my sauce a bit more creamy. Good place for the family.

The restaurant just isn’t good. Don’t let the interesting and large menu fool you like it did us. Go bowl, go drink and watch games but the suck service coupled with bowling alley food is not a good combo.

Interesting place. A full sized bowling alley (6ish lanes) and a nice little restaurant. We sat at the bartop for our steak & eggs brunch. The bartender was friendly not but overly engaging. Watching her and the other waitstaff their teamwork made for efficient service. When we were brought our meal and I set my eyes on the steak, I was a little concerned about the quality. Absolutely amazing food! We came back twice … ceviche unbelievable taste and value, fig and prosciutto pizza, apple crisp - super yummy. Brown sugar steak tips and braised lamb shank the next time - so wonderful we couldn’t order a pizza to take home as planned. Great place with lots of locals and bartenders that can make drinks not on the menu!

our server Kristina was great. she was very helpful with suggesting entrées and appetizers and made sure that we knew we were getting a bang for our buck. The portions were large and we were able to share everything between the four of us. We even had to take some food home. great atmosphere, and is very family friendly. the bowling alley is right next to the restaurant/bar so if you bring your kids, it’s a great place for them to go play or to bowl with friends.

Fun spot for bowling in Martha’s Vineyard. Our waitress was great and made sure that we were never waiting for our drinks. We didn’t have any food so I can’t speak to that but we had a great time bowling and the space is clean and nice.

Farms
Island Alpaca Company in Vineyard Haven is a delightful destination for animal enthusiasts. The farm is home to over 50 colorful and friendly alpacas, offering visitors the chance to interact with these charming creatures through petting, photo opportunities, and observing their playful behavior. Additionally, the farm hosts various special events such as alpaca yoga and walk and talk sessions.
We had an amazing time visiting Island Alpaca Company near Vineyard Haven! We were lucky enough to see two adorable baby alpacas, and the staff was incredibly friendly, even bringing them over for us to pet up close. The alpacas were super friendly and came right up to the fence, which made it easy to see them up close. The gift shop was also a highlight, offering lots of high-quality, cute items. The $8 entry fee was totally worth it for such a unique and memorable experience. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Martha’s Vineyard!

Had a very pleasant 1.5 hour visit with the llamas and their guardian alpacas just after the 10 am opening on a Wednesday morning. Fun to watch the herd interact with each other and their handlers in the paddock. Very informative and nice handlers who answered everyone’s questions and explained about the farm and the animals. You can pet them (so soft) and take lots of fun pictures from outside the fence. We were fortunate to see a 3 day old baby on his first day outside of the barn. There are two paddock areas to see them – one out in the open and one that has shade and seats. Though kids will love this, it is also very interesting for adults, too. Lots of unique items made from their wool in the gift shop. Nominal admission which we were happy to pay to help the farm continue.

If you love alpacas and/or lamas then this is your place! Animals are well kept and sweet. Great place for small kids. Employees/volunteers are knowledgable. Cute little gift shops woth options ranging from $4-over $100. Easily accessible via public transportation.

We went to Island Alpaca today with the kids and it was a blast! The alpacas are so cute and gentle, and the kids loved petting them (okay… so did we). The staff was super friendly and happy to answer all our questions. The farm is clean, easy to walk around, and there’s a little shop with the softest alpaca socks and scarves. It’s a short visit but such a fun one, perfect little break in the day. Definitely one of those “only on Martha’s Vineyard” experiences.

Pretty cool place to visit if you’re in the area! I was a little concerned at first but the entry is very cheap so I figured let’s give it a shot and I was not disappointed. There were a number of knowledgeable staff there to answer questions, and I guess we came at feeding time which was funny to see the Llamas freak out about food. I learned quite a bit for my time there and would go back if I get the chance. The gift shop is quite expensive but I don’t mind supporting local businesses so we bought a cute little llama with a hat. Overall it’s quite out of the way but there is a bus that drops you off right in front so if your in the island and have some time do check it out, it’s pretty cool!

Fun place to see alpacas! Bring your kids, since they can pet alpacas. Watch out for some of them (alpacas) can spit. Gift shop has lots of souvenirs. A vintage tractor can be seen also.

This isn’t my cup of tea, but did I leave with an extremely happy gf ? Yes i did. Everyone was nice, it was like $5, can’t say any of the souvenirs were cool for me but we did play with some of the alpacas and llamas. Don’t forget llamas are spitters, so be prepared !

Mass Audubon's Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary, located on the eastern tip of Martha's Vineyard, spans 350 acres and offers 4 miles of trails through diverse habitats such as woodlands, ponds, meadows, and a barrier beach. The sanctuary hosts various programs including birding and kayaking classes, as well as day programs for kids. It serves as a haven for wildlife observation and provides visitors with breathtaking views of landscapes.
A great place to visit with children who like to run around in nature. Our 3 year old really enjoyed the ponds, shoreline and wood trails. We found lots of beautiful shells including a large old horseshoe crab shell. The trails are well marked and the friendly staff in the Discovery Center were most helpful with making a suggested route. The Discover Center is also worth a look around. We met some really cool creatures in here (turtle, frog, snake, caterpillars), plus could watch the osprey and eagle nests on the live cam.

Libraries
Oak Bluffs Public Library is a fantastic place to visit, especially for those looking for a relaxing beach town experience. The library offers a great book selection and fun events, making it the best library system in such a location. Visitors can also borrow summer beach gear like chairs, carts, tents, and lawn bowling sets. The staff are known for being nice and respectful. However, some visitors feel that the printing charges are too high.
I spoke to Allison on the phone because she helped me get my upcoming event on the calendar. Between her and the man who answered from the circulation desk, they were the absolute happiest and most pleasant people I have ever encountered! Excellent customer service.

Giving 3 stars because the library itself is a great library … until you are “Cat Called” and followed in by this man, (the one with his back towards us in the photo) who was not actually entering the library to get books. He crowded me and my kids, without a mask and pretended to hold the door for us. He was close enough to grab my hand if he wanted to, and actually said out loud, “This is my family.” While he followed us inside - totally creepy. I told the man, “You are not actually going to stay with us. We are trying to social distance.” Meaning get lost buddy. And as I hurried to the elevator. I saw him collect free disposable masks and tissues by the door. Later the librarian told me, “oh he’s harmless. And is here everyday.” Harmless, excuse me - as a woman being “Hollered At” and followed, plus with little children this behavior is not harmless. Writing this review to bring awareness. I’m hoping this is just a one time experience for me and that it doesn’t happen to others.

We had a couple of hours to burn before our ferry departure, and where better to take six children than the Oak Bluffs library. It was wonderful! We loved relaxing in the children's room -- toys, crafts, chess, dress-up, cozy chairs, and a HUGE selection of books. What a treasure!
Olivia B — Google review
The library itself is a nice facility with a great selection of books. However, I will not bring my children here any more because the staff in the children's room are utterly rude, give judgmental blank stares, and act so annoyed at the sight of children being children and having fun. It’s like they are upset at children playing with the toys that they have put out for them to play with. It’s strange. Especially when you are respectful and clean up after your children. People that work near children should enjoy children. Seems the librarians in the children’s room aren’t a great fit for their jobs and maybe would enjoy working around adults only. It’s disheartening. I wasn’t surprised to find another review saying the staff will look down upon you and act like you are a bother. The vibes at this library are bizarre and off and I recommend West Tisbury Library where they are more kind to mothers and children and don’t expect you to be a robot.

Overall the best library system I’ve experienced in a beach town. Great book selection, fun events, and summer beach gear available to borrow. My family checked out beach chairs, a cart, tent, lawn bowling set, etc. It helped to make our summer vacation the best ever!

@Meghan_Dorsey That's me stretching on the Gazebo frame! I witnessed the cat-calling and fake door-opening and I'm always disgusted by losers such as him. On behalf of men, I am so deeply sorry that that was your experience at the local library. I want you to know that I dedicate my life to putting to rout such behaviors in our youth. As a romantic at heart, nobody deserves that experience. I am truly sorry that he exists. Also, as a community it is difficult to manage such youth. If it were me I would establish an involuntary public library to educate and reprogram these unwanted behaviors of harassment. I already have a difficult time with other men not respecting my space and hetero-status; I find my rights as a citizen infringed upon constantly by these losers. I hope the church continues to stand tall to example the youth we wish to see in our day-to-day enjoyment of life. The resources at the OBL are above standard and I am excited to see how their model is replicated across the nation. I read a book called 10,000 words talking about the importance of stuffing as many words into a child's brain from the get-go... it would be through facilities such as the OBL to accomplish great leaps in our public education system and private family welfare. Once again, I apologize on behalf of all men for your experience. I hope we can make up for it and prevent it from ever happening again. Happy holidays (+)

The women who work there all look down on you as if your a huge bother coming into the library. ATTENTION IMPORTANT ABOUT INTERNET SERVICES AT THIS LIBRARY: If you do not have a library card (a.k.a: A CLAMS CARD from the library in Oak Bluffs Edgartown or Vineyard Haven (a.k.a Martha's Vineyard) in general, then you are only allowed to use the 15 minute computers ( this is a table of 4 computers that let you browse the Internet for 15 minute segments & then automatically shuts off.... If you have done anything that you needed to print, file, save &/or anyting else you are screwed and your work is gone without warning!!! They shut down no matter what... Now, if you do happen to have your clams card with you however, you can use the one hour long computers. BUT: just like the 15 min. timed computers that automatically shut down, after the hour these ALSO automatically shut down the computer. whether you are (or have) finishing your work or able to save all of your work etc. The Edgartown and Vineyard Haven Libraries are not so strict with being online for more than a hour, weather you have a clams card or not, you have all*** the free time to surf the web. *** I would say the only exception would be as if they were extra busy and a lot of people wanted to go online at the same time, & in the summer it sure as heck can get that busy.

Manuel F. Correllus State Forest, located in the heart of Martha's Vineyard, spans 5,300 acres and showcases a unique blend of grasslands, barrens, and woodlands. Once a preserve for the endangered Heath Hen, this expansive natural area now offers an array of outdoor activities for all ages. Visitors can explore miles of biking and walking trails as well as enjoy two 18-hole disc golf courses.
During my time at Manuel F. Correllus State Forest, I deeply touched by the warmth and friendliness of the people I encountered on the trail. Fellow hikers and nature enthusiasts seemed to share a genuine camaraderie, exchanging smiles, helpful tips, and stories that added an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience. The sense of community and the kindness of those I met truly elevated my visit and made it a memorable and heartwarming adventure. The trails were a nature lover's paradise, winding through breathtaking landscapes that truly captured the essence of serenity. The equestrian healing center added an extra layer of charm, providing a unique and rejuvenating touch to the visit. Exploring the forest felt like stepping into a hidden haven of tranquility. Whether you're an avid hiker or simply seeking a peaceful escape, this forest is a must-visit destination that will leave you in awe of its beauty and the healing it offers.

Trails are nice but poorly maintained of the exercise spots and the current belate mowing encouraged tick infestation. They made it very poor to access to the small grass trails (May 2023) The selfish acts of trash dumping (car parts, drink bottles, dog poop bags), motor cyclist noises, not-so-cute paint graffitti on fire roads by toddlers and their parents, and walking the anti social dogs without leash are the representation of the locals' disrespectful mindset. We spotted once the unusual drug dealing of two women and a dealer who were obviously caught red handed. We see many nip bottle drinking dui drivers in the particular parking lot close to Gooddales after work hours, who would take some seconds to stop then toss the nips in front of us. They seem to have no shame to trash the state park with their bad habits. Across the High school playgrounds, there is a clear encroachment of the land use by the high school to the state park with wooden tables and the kids left old and new trash cans and even used rubbers along the current path to west and south trails. Again, that is the ugly reality of some islanders before summer comes. And no one does anything to stop the crass acts. I would not mind surveillance and close monitoring and regular cleanup.
Theo P — Google review
Maintenance of this forest is clearly a low priority for the DCR. Can't even do routine mowing of the fire lanes. Not really a welcoming place when all the trails and paths are overgrown. However, it is my favorite place to run. Just be mindful of ticks and now, apparently, oak mites.

As someone mentioned, a shell of its former self. Used to be filled with fun games once upon a time! Classic arcade cabinets, carnival ducks, Pump It Up (DDR-adjacent game). Now it’s full of Dave & Busters ticket- grab games that are rigged and priming kids for the gambling and sports betting pipeline. Even skee ball isn’t sacred. You can get the highest score and max out at 25 tickets on your little card. The “price” of games is a messy ordeal as well. Why a whole number and then a fraction of a…coin? Point? Who even knows! And I know there are complaints about the kids working there, but without a doubt, you can look at the top for the blame. Surely management gives them nothing to care about. And if there is anything to care about (and there isn’t!), it has to be based on fear. I won’t go into the gory details about how asking for a certain prize was a huge pain, but I figure not giving away the last one—a display—happened because higher-ups want to look the counter to look padded. Same nonsense is true of the Newport, RI location as well. It’s a shame.

Miniature golf course

Ice cream shop
The Cove - Golf & Grill in Vineyard Haven offers an extensive mini-golf course surrounded by gardens and waterfalls, making it a perfect family activity. The well-designed course provides various challenges for both kids and adults to enjoy. After a game, visitors can indulge in ice cream at the on-site grill or grab a meal from the food truck. Additionally, there's a rock-climbing wall for those feeling adventurous.
As of July 24th 2025 the course is in good shape unlike some reviews from last year. You can see where they’ve replaced a bunch of the greens. I was definitely skeptical about coming based on the recent reviews but overall it was a good experience. Not the best mini golf course I’ve ever played but had a great time with the fam nonetheless. Biggest complaint is the holes are uneven so the ball rolls back sometimes or gets stuck up against the wall. $12 for adults and $10 for kids.

Place looks nice, no pricing on website and they don’t answer the phone. Honestly fantastic experience 2/5

Used to come here as a kid when it had different ownership and it was usually, as I recall, a pleasant and clean experience. It’s still pleasant but it seems like they haven’t drained or cleaned the pools in a long time. The greens are in decent condition but a lot of the indicator signs are frequently missing. Maybe that’s part of the charm? The lack of lighting on the back holes could be conducive to skunks or other mischief. I had a nice time and it’s definitely a good bang for my buck on this island that loves to take my money.

Most of the green was either ripped or was bumpy which made it hard to play. We had a golf expert with us and he called it “dirty, and impossible to play on” never coming back here again!

The putting surface is so worn out on 90% of the holes it is like putting on concrete. This place has been around for many years and they have probably put in zero money into maintaining the course. Basically the putting surface is so worn out that everybody's ball ends up in the lowest part of the hole everytime. Honestly if they don't put some money into the course they should just close down.

Isabelle's Beach House offers modern, oceanfront accommodations with stunning panoramic views and amenities such as free Wi-Fi and a continental breakfast. Located on Martha's Vineyard, the area provides numerous outdoor activities, but there are also indoor options for those who prefer them. Renting a car is recommended to explore the surroundings. A family of five had an amazing four-day stay at this beach house, praising its proximity to Inkwell Beach and the breathtaking sunrise and moonrise views from the house itself.
First of all, September is a perfect time to go to Martha's Vineyard. The weather was wonderful and there were no crowds. Isabelle's Beach House was excellent! I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone else. The room was clean, and we had a wonderful view of the ocean. Breakfast was served every morning, and it was very good. This is the first time I didn't go to a restaurant for breakfast. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful! And we met other travelers from different countries and states.

We just concluded staying at the Inkwell Beach House in Oak Bluffs for several days. The location of the facility couldn't be better. It's literally a stones throw from the ocean. Very well kept property and the staff was absolutely outstanding. The entire staff including Colleen, Brenna, Ashleigh and Jayden are to be applauded. They went above and beyond the call of duty and are certainly a credit to your organization. We anxiously look forward to returning.

My husband and I stayed here a couple of weeks ago as a part of our honeymoon trip and we loved it. We booked the back room and were so glad we did as it afforded us a bit more privacy from away from the rest of the guests and it is a large room. Our only complaint was the tiny commode in the bathroom but that was a minor thing in the great scheme of it all. Everything else - the staff, the breakfasts (awesome + delicious!) and the accommodations blew us away. Oh and that bed - best sleep ever! We also loved the fact that the house is right across the street from the Inkwell Beach. This was our first time visiting Martha's Vineyard and staying at Isabelle's helped us have a pretty amazing experience overall.

We had stayed at this location back in 2022 and had a great time. We had booked a reservation for this summer, and these people CANCELLED our reservation with NO NOTICE a few hours before our trip! All of their employees make false promises without notifying the owner, and then they try to blame us for “trying to break the rules”. Absolutely horrible people who spoke extremely rudely. The whole family was extremely disappointed, DO NOT GO HERE!!

My brother made reservations at Isabelle’s Beach House and I became a guest on my first visit to the Vineyard. What a nice, cozy, and friendly atmosphere here at Isabelle’s. Isabelle and Nancy are great hostess’s! Breakfast always had a fresh parfait that consisted of Greek Non-Fat Vanilla yogurt, blueberries, strawberries and granola! My favorite part of the morning! In the afternoon they provided pink lemonade and cookies. They provided such great service Isabelle didn’t have a heating pad (my brother unfortunately got sick one night) but she provided us with something I could microwave and wrap with a towel instead. The room we stayed in was nice. All the amenities needed even though we spent most of our time out and about on the Vineyard. I would not only recommend this beach house as a great place to stay, I would also entertain the idea of if and when I return to the Vineyard with my wife (who has “nevah” visited Martha’s Vineyard, staying at Isabelle’s! I felt very comfortable and relaxed! Thank you Isabelle and Nancy! Warm wishes and success - the Florida guy and his brother who got sick!

We stayed here for a long weekend in September. The whole staff was amazing. The food each morning was to die for. The location is wonderful as you can get to most places by foot and other places are a short car ride away. It is close to the port authority so it was easy to locate. The view from our room and the front porch was amazing. The staff went out of their way to make use feel welcome and to help us with everything that we needed. We got engaged over the weekend and the staff at the beach house posted it on their community board and made us feel so special. We will definitely be back!!!

What a great store! Love their logos. Staff was very friendly and shared the story of the inspiration for the store. Love this place. Don’t leave the island without visiting this shop

Nothing special. More of a tourist trap.

Don't go here. The staff follow you around and treat you like thief's. Shop where you are respected. Go to Basics across the street

Clothing store
Soft as a Grape is a popular clothing store with three locations on Martha's Vineyard, including one on Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs. The store offers a wide range of men's, women's, and children's clothing made from super-plush, ring-spun combed cotton. In addition to clothing, they also have a great selection of masks and affordable souvenirs. Visitors appreciate the friendly and helpful staff who go the extra mile to assist customers.
First trip to MV in a very long time and went into this shop to look for a little something for a special little girl. It was the beginning of our day trip and knew we would be doing quite a bit of walking but did not want to be carrying around bags all day. Abby was our sales woman and she graciously held all of our items for us for the entire day. Not only did she do that, but she also gave us the lowdown on what we must see while we were visiting for the day. Along with buses the numbers of the buses and spent sometime with us detailing out where to go first! It was lovely to see customer service was not lacking in this boutique, especially by Abby! And the sweatshirt that I had personally purchased for a special little girl is going to be adored!

Standard tourist trap type shop for Vineyard based apparel. The name is a pun obviously on Martha's Vineyard, Soft as A Grape. Not much here idland wide is good bake for cost but it is all at least high quality
Eben J — Google review
It is a very nice place, and usually I go a lot, but this time was horrible. Everything was so overpriced, not to mention the rude girl who absolutely made my daughter's visit bad as well. She was trying on a shirt, and there were none left her size, so I told her to go ask the lady at the counter if there were anymore mediums. She went up and wasn't even half way through with her sentence when the lady rudely said no, and din't even look at her. Absolutely rude! So I automatically walked out of the store and said, your not gonna take my money. By the way, the artificial grape smell is nauseating.

Great quality of clothes! When we visit the island we make sure we hit the Oak Bluffs store before we leave!

Nestled in the charming town of Oak Bluffs, Oak Bluffs Town Beach, often referred to as Inkwell Beach, is a delightful destination for families seeking a fun day by the water. This picturesque beach features gentle waves and soft sands, making it an ideal spot for little ones to splash around. While there are no lifeguards on duty year-round, visitors can enjoy stunning views of Chappaquiddick Island from its shores that face Nantucket Sound.
One of the beautiful beaches on Martha's Vineyard situated literally steps from shops, restaurant, accommodations and the ferry terminal. Don't miss the Back Door Doughnuts on the main drag and the Victorian Gingerbread Houses.
Abi M — Google review
Not impressed with this beach. I have wanted to visit Inkwell Beach since the movie. Just a sliver of sand, mostly shells and rocks when getting in the water so be sure to bring aqua shoes if you come. There was trash on the beach which is unfortunate. There is a lifeguard on duty. If I come back to Martha's Vinyard again, I will try other beaches.
S T — Google review
Nice views, but kind of narrow and crowded. Sand was a weird texture, unlike anything I've experienced on the mainland, and there were lots of seashells to collect.
Kim M — Google review
For me, one of the best beaches! Clean and clear. Great to picnic and snorkel, wade and relax.
R S — Google review
Beautiful beach at Oak Bluffs with blue water and beautiful views.

Cute little area to lay and dip right near the city centre. Its not the best beach by any means, but it gets the job done!

Visited April 10,2021. The ocean breeze was nice along with the the weather. Lots of shells laying around.
