Nestled in the heart of Vercelli, the Chiesa di San Cristoforo is a stunning example of Renaissance architecture, built in 1515 after an earlier church was demolished. Often referred to as the 'Sistine Chapel of Vercelli', this remarkable church showcases breathtaking works by Gaudenzio Ferrari, a key figure in the Piedmontese Renaissance. Inside, visitors are treated to a visual feast with masterpieces created between 1529 and 1534.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful. The frescoes are wonderful, it's a pity that it was dark and to see well and admire these works of art the 5/10 minutes that the lights turn on, after inserting the coin into the appropriate device, are not enough. The altarpiece is not well admired. Probably so that the light doesn't ruin the wonderful paintings. Beyond the paintings, in its simplicity, the crypt or the old stone church is very beautiful.

(Translated by Google) Don't be impressed by the facade: the wonder is inside. The transept hosts wonderful images by Gaudenzio Ferrari. Too bad about the lighting; even by activating the timed service (€1), many parts are not illuminated correctly (or at all). Paradoxically, my camera could "see" what my eyes could not. But the experience of being in direct contact with the works is exciting. Don't forget to observe, as much as possible, the canvas at the bottom of the apse.

(Translated by Google) The Church of San Cristoforo is one of the most artistically rich in Vercelli. It was built in the 16th century, after the demolition in 1515 of a pre-existing place of worship dating back to the second half of the 12th century. It underwent other important interventions in the eighteenth century, including the creation of the polychrome marble balustrade designed by Filippo Juvarra (1678 - 1736). The sober, almost modest late Renaissance style of the facade should not be misleading. It is inside that San Cristoforo keeps his treasure, that is, some of the major works of Gaudenzio Ferrari (1475/1480 - 1546), probably the greatest Piedmontese painter of the Renaissance. One of them is the very delicate altarpiece known as the Madonna of the Oranges, in which one of the first pictorial representations of the violin appears (let's not forget that Ferrari is also the author of the Concert of Angels, a fresco that covers the entire dome of the Sanctuary of the Beata Vergine dei Miracoli in Saronno). The other two grandiose works, created between 1531 and 1534, are the frescoes of the two transepts. The one on the right depicts scenes from the Life of Saint Mary Magdalene, next to which there is an imposing Crucifixion; the one on the left illustrates the most significant episodes of the Life of the Virgin, crowned by a stupendous Assumption. It is possible to illuminate the frescoes using a machine that accepts coins, from 20 cents up to 2 euros, deciding how long you want them illuminated: for example, for one euro you have 4 minutes of light.

(Translated by Google) A modest exterior hides a treasure chest of paintings on canvas and frescoes of the highest level. Thanks to the great Gaudenzio Ferrari to whom we owe both the Madonna of the orange trees on the main altar and the stories of the Virgin on the walls of the transept. An important stop for those visiting Vercelli, given the central role of the Artist for the Renaissance art of the City. Cattedrale di Sant'Eusebio is a magnificent church located near the gardens of Piazza Sant'Eusebio. It stands out with its large copper-covered dome and mighty bell tower, making it one of the city's largest monuments. The interior boasts beautiful mosaics on the floor, towering columns, and an impressive bell tower next to it.
Really a gem of Vercelli full of history and beauty. The remains of the Saint Eusebio, the relics from Fatima, the ancient bamdalized and rebuilt silver cross, the magnificent working pipe organ are some of the wonders that deserve to be visited and lived. We went to the Sunday service I family and was exelent.

(Translated by Google) I could only take a couple of photos because they were closing, but the cathedral is truly fabulous, with many things to admire, like the Madonnina in the photo. Majestic, with some relics and clear and exhaustive indications in every corner. The immense ancient altar is beautiful. The putting on this should be very impressive. Another altar in the center I don't like very much, but it's personal taste. It is certainly worth a visit in religious and admired silence.

Nestled in the heart of Vercelli, the Parrocchia di S. Bernardo e Santuario della Madonna degli Infermi is a revered site of religious devotion. This charming church is renowned for housing the poignant painting of the Madonna degli Infermi, which draws many faithful visitors who come to pay their respects. The sanctuary has deep historical roots, dating back to 1630 when it emerged as a beacon of hope during a plague epidemic that plagued the region.

Francesco — Google review
(Translated by Google) This is the oldest church still existing in Vercelli, although only the brick façade, typically Romanesque, remains of the original building. It was built between 1151 and 1168, with dedication to San Bernardo. As evidence of the 12th century place of worship, two panels also remain, one depicting a centaur and the other a deer, which must have been part of a single narrative theme, that of a deer hunting scene by a centaur. The original tiles were restored in 2003 and are now placed on the counter-facade inside the church, while two plaster casts have been placed on the facade. The rest of the building, which has now become the Sanctuary of the Madonna degli Infermi, was completely rebuilt between 1894 and 1896 by Giuseppe Locarni (1826 - 1902), an architect and politician from Vercelli. The exterior is in neo-Romanesque style with neo-Gothic elements (pinnacles, polygonal apse), while inside the presbytery and apse show eclectic characteristics. The enlargement of the ancient church and the construction of the Marian sanctuary were necessary to increase the number of faithful devoted to the Madonna degli Infermi, whose original painting is today kept in the first chapel on the right.

It was built in Gothic style during the 13th century, and entrusted to the Franciscans in 1292. The beautiful polygonal apse remains from that period. The equally notable bell tower was built later, in 1423, in massive Romanesque/Gothic forms, designed by Antonio de Vernetis. Today the building is heavily remodeled. The façade is a late Baroque/eclectic work from 1770, designed by the architect Ignazio Amedeo Galletti (1726 - 1791), concluded by a balustrade decorated with torches typical of the fashion of the period. The interior, with three naves and a transept, was partially restored in a neo-Gothic style between the 19th and 20th centuries and brought back to what it must have been originally, at least in terms of structure. It houses two valuable pictorial works: a Saint Ambrose by Gerolamo Giovenone (circa 1490 - 1555) and a Madonna and Child from the school of Bernardino Lanino (1512 - 1578).

(Translated by Google) I was able to discover, to my great surprise, that the Church of Sant'Agnese in San Francesco stands within the delimited perimeter of what were the medieval walls of Vercelli. I was invited to attend a wedding and I had the opportunity to carefully photograph this majestic place of worship. Both the building and its structural system can be dated back to around 1300: the main facade is Baroque while the side facade is completely made of brick with Gothic features. It turns out that its origins are very ancient. Initially, its primordial layout was considered too narrow to accommodate the faithful. The church stands under the road pavement, to access it you have to go down some stone steps, which experiences the extraordinary miracle of preserving its original Gothic structure for the most part. Its interior consists of three naves and is characterized by the presence of columns and semi-columns with decorated ribbed vaults photographed by me. The bell tower is quadrangular accompanied by a pediment with six spiers. Inside there are frescoes dating back to 1500 of great historical and artistic value. The play of lights inside is spectacular in which time stops and the love of God becomes tangible, as his presence and the loving and compassionate gaze turned towards us children, disobedient, sinners, hopeless, atheists becomes similar to a mantle, enveloping you. In this place you feel caressed by the hand of God.

(Translated by Google) It is one of the many historic churches of Vercelli, very interesting from an architectural point of view. With three naves, it was built in the second half of the 13th century in Gothic-Romanesque style at the behest of the Dominican Fathers. What remains of that building are the beautiful gabled brick façade, enlivened by a splendid rose window, and the first three bays of the interior, which show a coexistence of pointed and round arches. The remaining bays, the presbytery and the apse were rebuilt in the 18th century in late Baroque style. Thus there is a contrast of radically different styles without interruption. San Paolo also houses two important paintings by Lanino (1512 - 1578), a Nativity and the altarpiece, depicting the Madonna delle Grazie.

Nestled in the charming town of Palestro, the Parrocchia San Martino boasts a rich history that dates back to its original construction in 1006. This stunning church has undergone several transformations over the centuries, reflecting various architectural styles. Initially built in Romanesque style, it was later reconstructed between the 14th and 15th centuries with Gothic influences. The most significant renovation occurred between 1560 and 1570 when it was expanded and adorned with Baroque elements.

(Translated by Google) The Parish Church of San Martino has gone through numerous construction phases. It already existed in 1006, and must have had an early Romanesque appearance. It was subsequently rebuilt, in Gothic style, between the 14th and 15th centuries. Another important renovation took place between 1560 and 1570: in this decade it was enlarged to its current size. The beautiful neo-Gothic renovation, the style in which it appears today, took place in 1884 based on a project by Giuseppe Locarni (1826 - 1902), a politician and architect from Vercelli, also responsible for the Synagogue of Vercelli, in neo-Moorish style, and, again in the same city, of the Sanctuary of the Madonna degli Infermi, another happily neo-Gothic construction. The interior of the parish church houses some frescoes by Luigi Morgari (1857 - 1935), one of the main Piedmontese painters of sacred subjects of the period, but it is difficult to find it open.

(Translated by Google) It is a building that we could define as "eclectic" because it contains the styles of the different periods it has lived through: the Romanesque hanging arches outside the central nave can still be seen, the interior with pillars and cross vaults speaks to us of the Gothic , the "artistic and elegant" altar is what remains of the Baroque era. Usually you can admire the "salient" façade rebuilt in 1800; it would be nice to also be able to see the internal frescoes from the 1400s (even if ruined by time) but the church appears difficult to visit. Desiderio, Giacomo e Clemente

(Translated by Google) Already in 1848 Casalis noted (with some amazement) that this church had the title of provost despite the small size of the town which he defined as "a small group of houses". The explanation perhaps lies in the fact that the church is already mentioned in a document from 1200 and that well before 1500 it became a parish under the patronage of the counts Delle Lanze and the Avogadro of Valdengo. Little seems to be left of such antiquity and nobility: the Angelus which is no longer rung at midday and the rust on the belfry are signs of changing times.
