The Basilica of San Gaudenzio is a prominent landmark in Novara, Italy. Its towering central cupola, reaching 121 meters high, makes it visible from almost anywhere in the city. The 19th-century masterpiece features ornate columns and colorful frescos inside its opulent interior. This church is renowned for its impressive dome, one of the largest in Italy, offering breathtaking views from the top.
Incredible building, quite spectacular.... make sure you walk all around the outside

The Basilica, a symbol of Novara, adds a wonderful atmosphere to the city with its high dome and exterior facade that harmonizes with the surrounding streets. The architecture of the Basilica is truly fascinating and worth exploring. The interior is not cluttered with objects, with the architectural features taking center stage. I can say it's a religious structure that impresses you with its grandeur as soon as you step inside. We enjoyed exploring it. Unfortunately, we couldn't find any informative brochures or plaques while touring.
Murat Y — Google review
Wonderful church, however the way to get the best view is inside a bank parking lot. The security guard is extremely unfriendly. Why would they not allow access to see the beautiful structure? I guess this is reinforces the trend of Italy giving control of historical monuments to corporations.
Wayne K — Google review
Refreshing contrast between ornate decor and plain walls. Quiet, still atmosphere and not crawling with tourists. The statue that was formerly atop the spire is now inside so you can get close up to see the details.

If you want to see one of the most beautiful churches in Novara, you have to drop by. Obviously, no short clothes.

Worth a visit. It is so amazing. It looks even more huge than St Pietro in Vatican. In the night it has the highlights which make it even more awesome and gorgeous.

San Marco is a Catholic church in Novara with a historical significance dating back to the 17th century. The building follows a Greek cross plan, showcasing a baroque style both on its exterior and interior. The facade appears simple, but the inside reveals an exquisite design featuring a single nave and six chapels embellished with art pieces and frescoes. One of the notable artworks is a large canvas by Daniele Crespi located in the right transept.

Located at the historical center of Novara, dates back to the 17th century. The facade is simple but the interior is beautiful, a baroque style with a single nave with three chapels on each side, richly decorated with work of arts, frescoes. There’s a little light coming in, but definitely worth a visit.

Cool, quiet spot full of ornate sculpture. There are some gruesome paintings and very interesting carving above the confessionals.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful church in viale Roma, one of the main avenues of Novara. The external facade is really well preserved, but even the interiors do not deny the beauty of the church: frescoes, vaults, all very sober, but this is precisely the secret of its charm. Unfortunately I met the church for a funeral, but it was a discovery.

(Translated by Google) The church was built between 1913 and 1919. The bell tower, one of the tallest in Novara, was built in the 1930s, while the façade was completed between 1954 and 1958. The church, large in size and in an excellent state of conservation, is striking for the elegant slenderness of the columns, which give the naves an impression of greater height. Statues, frescoes and decorations enrich the environment, giving it a particular charm. Also of great importance are the baptistery, the wooden pulpit and the stained glass windows, which stand out for their evocative chromatic effects.

(Translated by Google) It is the most beautiful neo-Gothic church in Novara. It was built during the first half of the 20th century: the cornerstone was laid in 1913, while the façade was completed in 1958. With three naves, a transept, and a lantern, the overall layout certainly owes much to the neo-Gothic churches built throughout Piedmont by architect Giuseppe Gallo (1860–1927) at the turn of the 20th century. Gallo was used as an example here, particularly for the façade, embellished with the French-style gables of the three portals. The interior is no less evocative, with polystyle pilasters in red and white bands and two loggias delimiting the presbytery area (the organ is located in the right-hand one). If you're passing through Novara, after the churches in the historic center, the Sacro Cuore is certainly worth a visit.

(Translated by Google) I was very impressed by the beauty and serenity of the Church of San Pietro al Rosario in Novara. This sacred place conveys a sense of history and spirituality that captures attention from the first moment. The architecture of the church is fascinating, with intricate details. The artwork inside is truly remarkable, with frescoes and paintings that tell biblical stories in an engaging way. The natural light that filters through the stained glass windows and the main door creates a magical atmosphere, emphasizing the sacredness of the place. I particularly appreciated the quiet and reflective atmosphere that pervades the church. It is an ideal place to find a moment of peace, to reflect or to pray. Unfortunately, due to some internal collapses, some barriers were placed on the left nave of the structure which also indicate the imminent and necessary maintenance of the church itself. The Church of San Pietro al Rosario is a hidden jewel in the heart of Novara, and I highly recommend anyone who happens to be passing through here to visit it. Whether you are an art enthusiast, a religious spirit or simply looking for a moment of tranquility, this church offers a truly unique experience as it is a place that enchants the senses and the soul, a place that is worth a visit attentive and respectful.

The parish Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian, believed to have been constructed in the 1400s, is worth a visit. Located at the entrance of San Damiano, this architectural marvel showcases the saints it is dedicated to on its facade. The interior exudes tranquility with its beautiful and intimate ambiance, reflecting the calming influence of its baroque style. It provides a serene setting for individuals seeking solace and connection with the Divine.
A place where you can communicate with the Lord in peace

Invites to meditation and prayer. The statues of the 2 saints to whom the church is dedicated stand out on the façade. Circular bell tower, very strange, it is believed to have derived from an ancient defensive tower, probably later transformed into a bell tower. (Translated by Google) Beautiful church located at the entrance to via Roma. For those who want to visit it, you can also park immediately next to it, in the square in front. Despite the uncertain origin, the first written testimonies date back to the end of the 1400s. On the outside, two niches contain the statues of Saints Damiano and Cosma, to whom it is consecrated, while above the door there is a fresco dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. The Chiesa Sant'Eufemia is a charming, petite church that may not grab attention at first glance, but it boasts an impressive size. Adjacent to it is an oratory where children can engage in play. The parish priest generously permits small groups like boyscouts to generate funds by selling pastries and treats following the mass. This place attracts friendly individuals and emanates tranquility as a Catholic Church should.

It is a beautiful little church, not very impressive but really large. Next to it there is also an oratory where children can play. The parish priest allows small associations (such as boyscouts) to do self-financing by selling cakes or dolculiums after mass. You can meet very nice people there.

(Translated by Google) The Church of Sant'Eufemia, in Novara, is a jewel of history and art that I have often found closed, but which I can't wait to visit. Its origins date back to ancient times, contemporary with the construction of the churches of Ognissanti and San Nazzaro della Costa. Already at the time of Bishop Litifredo, this church was a place of worship granted to the brotherhood to celebrate liturgies. During the period of the brotherhood of San Defendente, until 1586, the management of the church was entrusted to them. Subsequently, Sant'Eufemia became a hospice for pilgrims, a role it maintained until the nineteenth century. The brotherhood, in fact, left the church due to the union with the order of the Confraternity of the SS. Trinity of the Pilgrims of Rome. In 1666, the building underwent a Baroque style renovation, similar to what happened to the Church of Ognissanti. The current facade, concave and characterized by a refined two-tone between the white of the walls and the yellow of the finishes, dates back to 1694-1698. The columns, whose stone stands out in the dominant colour, together with gables and projecting cornices, give the facade a timeless elegance. The main entrance, part of an imposing porch, is surmounted by a window, while two side niches house statues. The interior, in the shape of a Latin cross with a large transept, reflects the style of the facade. The pulpit, created between 1682 and 1683 by the carver Vallo, is an example of rich wood carvings. The choir, in rococo style from 1775, is the work of G. Olivarez da Corbetta and P. Barengo da Magenta. Among the pictorial works, "The Assumption" by Agostino Sant'Agostino from 1677 and the "Martyrdom of a Saint" by Giuseppe Antonio Pianca from 1745 stand out, both dramatic and evocative. Furthermore, there are "Sant'Omobono" by Bartolomeo Vandoni (1603-1676) and other works of considerable artistic value. The Church of Sant'Eufemia also houses funerary monuments, including that of Count Giuseppe Tornielli Brusati, sculpted in 1843 by Antonio Bisetti. Ultimately, this church represents a treasure of history and art that certainly deserves an in-depth visit to admire its works and immerse yourself in its fascinating history.

The polychromy and the countless friezes of the concave façade, combined with the frescoes and decorations of the interior, make Sant'Eufemia a true archetype of the seventeenth-century artistic movement par excellence. Not to be missed for lovers of the genre. Chiesa San Giovanni Decollato is a historic church located in the center of Novara, Italy. Built in the early 1600s, it boasts rich artistic evidence including paintings and sculptures. (Translated by Google) In the historic center, in the city of Novara, stands the church dedicated to St. John the Baptist. The church overlooks the small square with the statue of Carlo Emanuele III located at a frontal angle on the left side of the Coccia Theatre. Also known as the Church of San Giovanni Decollato, a name explained in the Gospels where the decapitation of the Saint is narrated. The building was built between 1635 and 1643, the name of the designer is unknown, the whole presents uniformity of style, without additions or transformations made in the following centuries, an object which increases its artistic value. The facade has a tripartite section both vertically and horizontally; the central portal is inserted in a curved frame, which encloses like a shell a plaque with an inscription of considerable historical and social value which recalls the renewal of the concessions and privileges granted by Philip IV of Spain. The facade has niches with statues in the middle and upper part, highlighted by the deliberately light colors of the walls, compared to the lower part, with gray tones. The statues are of S. Rocco, on the left of S. Luigi on the right and at the top center of the triangular tympanum S. Giovanni Battista. The tripartition of the building is the result of the canons established by Borromeo: the Hall for the Faithful, the Presbytery and the Hall for the Brothers or Choir. In the corners there are four chapels: the first dedicated to the Madonna of Caravaggio with a 14th century simulacrum. The second on the right dedicated to Saint John the Baptist with a 17th century altarpiece. The first on the left dedicated to the Crucified Jesus with a 16th century simulacrum. The second on the left dedicated to San Luigi Gonzaga with an 18th century altarpiece. The ceiling is decorated with frescoes from 1912 by the Ossola painter Giuseppe De Giorgi. I walked in this sacred place, of worship rooted viscerally and atavically brick by brick where the presence of God is tangible and profound. The Church is currently undergoing restoration work. I had a very pleasant conversation with the sacristan who approached me, seeing me in ecstasy with my nose in the air while my green eyes were lost in the vaults and frescoes that reigned above my head in all their magnificence. I learned from him that they will end at the end of next April. Then, I was left alone. I felt the presence of God towering over me, his light. Before leaving, I paid my respects with an impeccable bow with legs crossed, back erect. National Unity and Armed Forces Day is celebrated every November 4 on the day that commemorates the conclusion of the First World War in 1918. This celebration takes on the meaning of honoring the sacrifice of those fallen in war events through maximum implementation in the rite of the burial of the Unknown Soldier in Rome in the chapel of the altar of the Fatherland. In Novara the commemoration ceremony takes place with the raising of the flag at the Allia monument dedicated to the victims of the wars. In the Chapel of the Fallen of the Confraternity of San Giovanni Battista Decollato, the funeral pall used to honor the bodies of the Novara soldiers who fell during the wars is exhibited. Open to the public in the church of San Giovanni Decollato is the photographic exhibition called: "The journey of the Unknown Soldier" which is a true story through period photos. The monument is located next to the church of San Giovanni Battista Decollato. Always home to the brotherhood of the same name, the building is nestled between the famous Baptistery of the Duomo, the Bishop's Palace and Piazza Puccini, which separates it from the Coccia Theatre. It is not the most spectacular example of Novara Baroque, however its two orders surmounted by the valuable tympanum and divided into three parts by semi-columns possess an overall harmony that is not always found in seventeenth-century churches. It should be valued more. Parrocchia S. Maria Alla Bicocca is a captivating church that beautifully encapsulates the rich history of its surroundings. Originally built in the 17th century, it was constructed on the site of an earlier chapel dedicated to the Madonna and Child, whose image now graces the main altar within a stunning Renaissance-style wooden frame.

(Translated by Google) The Parish of Santa Maria della Bicocca is a fascinating place of worship rich in history, as well as a point of reference for residents and visitors interested in the city's Risorgimento past. Completed in 1658, the church stands on the site of a small chapel, known as "degli Spagnoli", where the Madonna and Child were venerated. This icon, which today constitutes the altarpiece of the main altar, is enclosed in a Renaissance-style wooden altarpiece. The baroque altars and fine wooden furnishings add a touch of majesty and refinement to the interior of the church. The church of Santa Maria alla Bicocca is particularly significant in the historical context of the Italian Risorgimento and the Battle of Novara on 23 March 1849. This battle, also known as the Battle of Bicocca, saw the Piedmontese troops led by Carlo Alberto face the Austrian forces commanded by Marshal Josef Radetzky. The church appears in numerous paintings of the time that represent this historic battle, testifying to its importance for the people of Novara in the second half of the nineteenth century. From the sixteenth-century chapel to the laying of the foundation stone of the current building in 1606, the church has played a central role in the religious life of the people of Novara. Recently, the restoration works carried out between 2006 and 2010 brought to light architectural and decorative elements of great historical value, such as the altarpiece of the main altar and the nineteenth-century frescoes. The church also houses a chapel dedicated to Blessed Francesco Faà di Bruno, co-patron of the parish, who was wounded in the battle of Novara. This chapel, with its mosaic, recalls the spirituality of the blessed and his sensitivity towards the prayer of suffrage for the deceased. Particularly significant is the direct involvement of the parish in the most critical period of the pandemic, with the city cemetery located on the parish territory. A perennial lamp has been placed in the chapel in memory of the victims of Covid-19, testifying to the continued closeness of the church to the community. In conclusion, the Parish of Santa Maria della Bicocca is a place of worship of great beauty and historical importance. Although I have not yet had the opportunity to explore all its treasures, the cultural and spiritual richness it exudes makes it a place to absolutely visit. I highly recommend a visit for anyone who wishes to delve deeper into the history and religious art of Novara.

The altarpiece of the main altar, depicting the Madonna and Child, comes from the pre-existing small chapel called "degli Spagnoli". On 23 March 1849, during the first Italian war of independence, the church was hit by numerous cannonballs, one of which remained lodged in the eastern side of the façade, as a reminder of the event. S. Andrea Apostolo - Pernate is a charming parish church that captivates visitors with its neoclassical architecture, likely dating back to the 19th century. Following recent restorations, the church has transformed into a warm and inviting space, adorned in soft yellow hues that set it apart from other local churches. Inside, you'll find a beautifully maintained three-nave layout featuring an exquisite baroque altar housing a painting of the Madonna and Child, possibly from the 16th century.

From what can be observed, it is most likely a fairly recent building, perhaps of nineteenth-century origin, with a neoclassical style. Recent restorations have made it a warm and welcoming church, with colors turning yellow. The interior with three naves is perfectly maintained, with a beautiful baroque altar which contains a painting of the Madonna and Child, perhaps from the sixteenth century. The small second bell tower is particular, half hidden, visible only if you go around on the right side.

Church of All Saints is a hidden gem in Novara, dating back to the early 12th century. Although it's often closed to visitors, its simple Romanesque facade and brick masonry make for an impressive sight. Tucked away in the city's oldest alleys, this small church is a must-see for those interested in historical architecture. It also serves as a place of prayer and peace for the community of S. Egidio.

It was my desire to admire the 15th century fresco, attributed to Giovanni de Campo, depicting a Madonna del Latte, but I was told that the church is only opened on the occasion of ceremonies organized by the community of S. Egidio. Patience. However, I admired the external facade, simple, in Romanesque style and in brick masonry. The church is the oldest in the city; already in 1100 it was mentioned in documents found. The building is fenced and access is permitted through a gate, which is also closed. Ognissanti is not only the oldest place of worship in Novara, but it is also the only surviving Romanesque building (apart from the Baptistery): built in the first decades of the 12th century, it retains much of the original structure, with the exception of the façade, restored over the years fifties of the twentieth century with the aim of eliminating the baroque remakes carried out in the eighteenth century. Although this restoration was not entirely successful (the difference in material between the facade and the body of the church is noticeable), Ognissanti remains a rare pearl of this area, to be jealously guarded. Chiesa SS. Trinità e Santa Maria al Monserrato is a small neoclassical and baroque church located in the main street of Novara. The interior showcases impressive Baroque architecture and has been well preserved over the years. The church's history dates back to the 12th century, with its final consecration taking place in 1598. It was later dedicated to Madonna del Monserrato during the Spanish domination in the seventeenth century.

(Translated by Google) Located near Piazza Cavour, the Church of the Holy Trinity and Santa Maria del Monserrato is a historical and architectural jewel of Novara that certainly deserves a visit. The current neoclassical appearance of the church is influenced by the project of the architect Paolo Gaudenzio Rivolta, with splendid decorations by Giuseppe Argenti and Giuseppe Rossi. The church has a single hall plan, with a small temple on the left designed by Costanzo Antonelli, son of the famous Alessandro Antonelli. The church has a rich and fascinating history that dates back to the 17th century, when the Spanish troops stationed in Novara placed a simulacrum of the Virgin of Monserrato there in 1619, starting the double dedication to the Holy Trinity and the Madonna of Monserrato. This link with Spanish domination is also evident in the precious statue of the Virgin, created in 1626 by the sculptor Baroffio from Varese, and placed on the main altar designed by Pietro Francesco Prina between 1715 and 1717. The history of the church is closely linked to the historical events of Novara. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the city experienced difficult periods under Spanish rule, punctuated by French occupations. In this context, the church played a central role in the religious life of the community, becoming the parish seat in 1636 after the destruction of the church of San Stefano. Over the centuries, the church also incorporated the territories of the parishes of San Giacomo and Ognissanti, becoming the largest parish in the city in 1857. The architecture of the church has undergone several changes over time, with the current façade in neoclassical style dating back to 1859. This renovation was necessary to adapt the church to the growing traffic of Corso Cavour, with the consequent movement of the presbytery and choir. Despite these changes, the interior of the church still preserves Renaissance and Baroque artistic works, which testify to the rich cultural and religious history of the place. One of the most significant testimonies of the Spanish presence in Novara is this church, which keeps the memory of that historical period alive. Its beauty and historical importance make the Church of the Holy Trinity and Santa Maria del Monserrato a place of great charm and interest. In conclusion, the Church of the Holy Trinity and Santa Maria del Monserrato is a magnificent example of how art, history and faith can intertwine harmoniously. Even though I haven't explored every detail yet, the visit to this place left a very positive impression on me. I highly recommend visiting it for anyone interested in discovering the historical wonders of Novara.

In reality the original church is much older, and its existence has been documented since the 12th century; it was finally consecrated in 1598, although its dedication to the Madonna del Monserrato only occurred in the seventeenth century, during the Spanish domination. The solemn interior with a single hall shows the various stylistic transitions that affected the church over the centuries: next to canvases painted by Giuseppe Vermiglio (1585 - 1735) in the early Baroque age, the decorations already in the Rococo style and the stupendous high altar of Pietro Francesco Prina (1647 - 1727), built between 1715 and 1717. On the left side there is a small Marian temple blatantly neoclassical, the work of Costanzo Antonelli, son of the great Alessandro. The beautiful facade is also neoclassical, designed by Paolo Gaudenzio Rivolta (1818 - 1873) and built starting in 1857, whose large semicircular window recalls that of the city cathedral.

(Translated by Google) In this district of 13/14 thousand presences, a term that indicates the confused metamorphosis and the ongoing ethnic-cultural mix, the Catholic parish consists of two buildings: the church in Corso Milano with the parish house for the three priests attached and the church in Via Cervina, Cascinone area, more recently established and dedicated to the Madonna of Lourdes. Assigning an extensive meaning to the parish theme, in faithful relevance to modern concepts of hospitality, numerous places of worship other than the Catholic one have arisen in the neighborhood area: from the large Moroccan and Pakistani Islamic mosques to the Methodist reality, from the Orthodox church to that of "save children", I don't know if there are Quakers but I'll stop here, so as not to list half a kilometer of paper. Each member of their own cult expresses their own religiosity based on their own cultural dictates, so those who sing and beat the drums for two hours, those who utter propitiatory songs to end with fervent tones of unbridled incitement, those who sing to the moon and the stars for hours, passing through some public street, can hear chants and choral dirges probably from autonomous minorities coming from certain condominium accommodations. All for the joy and contentment of the neighbors of these small or large Cultural Centres, whose opening is permitted unconditionally and at any time by Italian law and the Constitution itself. Also happy are the owners of properties in general who, thanks to this generalized local reality, see the value of their properties reduced exponentially wherever they are located in Sant Agabio. And the Parish with its churches? Ring the bells and call the faithful together on weekends and holidays. Upon clocking in, it becomes clear, on the occasions of significant gatherings, that the average age of those ever fewer present is well over seventy; young people lower their average during the period of doctrine in preparation for First Communion or Confirmation, however, once these stages have been overcome, the mysticism ceases and they disappear, at most you see them again in the oratory saying dirty words or putting their hands on each other. This is the Parish, how long will it last and how long will the average age allow it, and then? Then the longed-for integration and the fruit of the welcomed welcome will intervene to occupy the spaces left empty. Even today, the Pakistani tribe, ever more numerous here, is occupying and buying spaces and places at will. To the joy of our public administrators who have thus created their own picturesque and characteristic Bronx, having not proceeded in due time with the correct redistribution of those arriving in the municipal territory.

Santuario di Maria Ausiliatrice, also known as the Marian sanctuary of the Salesian institute S. Lorenzo of Novara, is a sacred place that offers a serene and peaceful environment in the heart of the city. The sanctuary is rich in artistic works and provides a sense of inner peace and comfort to its visitors. Despite being located in the city center, it serves as an oasis of silence and tranquility.

(Translated by Google) It is a beautiful Marian sanctuary, very well kept and welcoming. It was built between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with the laying of the first stone in 1896. It obtained the official title of sanctuary in 1912. Its architecture is clearly inspired by the neoclassical style, but with very personal touches: the coffered ceiling and, above all, the serliana loggia that runs along the entire single hall of the church almost as if it were a sort of women's gallery are elements that give a Renaissance touch to the building. In addition to the profound religious meanings (the cult of Mary Help of Christians was introduced to Novara by the Salesians of San Giovanni Bosco), the sanctuary is also interesting from an artistic point of view. In particular, the Chapel of the Crucifix is notable, which houses a beautiful sculpture in cast bronze with both high and low relief workmanship: the work was created by the Novara sculptor Carlo Cantoni (1872 - 1944), who depicts episodes around the large central Crucifixion of the life of Jesus.
