Nestled majestically above the Vltava River, the State Castle and Chateau Český Krumlov is a stunning testament to centuries of history and architectural evolution. As the largest castle complex in Eastern Europe, it offers visitors an enchanting glimpse into the lives of Bohemia's aristocracy. While its origins trace back to 1240, much of what captivates today’s guests was constructed during the 17th century.
Nice castle. I personally felt it was larger than Prague castle. It’s a small beautiful old town. Most people perhaps due day trips here. I wouldn’t mind spending a couple of nights from peace and breath of fresh air. Recommended…!

"A Medieval Gem with Breathtaking Views" The Český Krumlov Castle is truly one of the most enchanting places in the Czech Republic. The combination of medieval fortress, Renaissance and Baroque architecture, and the charming old town below makes it feel like stepping back in time. The castle grounds are vast and full of surprises — from courtyards and historic halls to the beautiful castle tower with its colorful facade. Climbing the tower is absolutely worth it for the panoramic view over Český Krumlov’s red rooftops and winding river — it’s picture-perfect. The castle gardens are also lovely for a peaceful stroll, especially in spring and summer. Guided tours of the interior give fascinating insight into the history of the noble families who lived here, and the preservation of the rooms is impressive. Even if you don’t take a tour, just wandering the grounds and soaking up the atmosphere is an unforgettable experience. A must-visit when in South Bohemia — magical, historic, and full of charm.
Andrew H — Google review
Cesky Krumlov it is the most romantic place in the Czech Republic, you can visit it both in summer and winter during the holidays. The castle is huge and offers a great view of the city. On the waterfront there are many very picturesque restaurants where you can eat well.
Monica A — Google review
A large castle, that was built originally in the early 1300's and later rebuilt in renessaince ans baroque styles. Really beautiful and amazing, the only negative thing is that you have to buy several tickets if you want to see everything, as there is no combined ticket. You can visit the courtyards for free. The museum and the tower is possible to visit without guide but to the rooms of the castle there are only guided rooms - but definitely worth going. Great views to the town from the tower! Don't miss this while in town!
Henri ( — Google review
A beautiful gem of the Czech Republic. We fell in love with this city at first sight. It's so much fun to walk around its picturesque streets, sail on the river and just feel like you're in a magical fairy tale.
Eddy T — Google review
A beautiful and interesting castle in the Czech Republic. It has a long history that stimulates my curiosity, too. If Prague is one of the most popular places to visit in the Czech Republic, then this place might be the most beautiful and impressive.
Garam L — Google review
An exceptional historical building, beautifully preserved, well-organized tours, at least 2 hours should be taken. I recommend a guided tour for additional explanations. A must visit if you are in Český Krumlov.
Jan L — Google review
If anything, the views of the town are what I would go back for again. Just surreal. Makes you think about how life was for the citizens of those days. The air is filled with the moisture and freshness of the running river; not to mention the sound of it flowing. Magical place. Go early in the morning, before the tour buses from Prague arrive.

The Church of St. Vitus in Cesky Krumlov is a remarkable Roman Catholic church with a rich history dating back to the 13th century. Its Gothic architecture, adorned with frescos and a 17th-century altar, stands out in the cityscape alongside the old castle. The church is known for its towering roof and lavishly decorated nave, as well as being the final resting place of prominent Bohemian families such as the Rosenbergs and Schwarzenbergs.
It’s a beautiful cathedral with typical interior for such kind of churches. It stands on a hill, so it’s somewhat hard to climb. The entrance is free.
Anya N — Google review
This is the only church I had a chance to visit when I popped by the town of Cesky Krumlov. As per all the churches I visited in this country, the simple exterior facade belies the beautiful interior within. I love the high ceiling, the prayer altars and how calm and serene it was once I entered the building. Definitely one of the must visit places in this town.
Gevs — Google review
A beautiful church. The cathedral is the samet of many places in the small town of Krumlov. Interesting architecture, a memorable spire, another building from past centuries that fits so perfectly into the atmosphere of the city.
Witold D — Google review
Huge and beautiful medieval church, built in early 1300's and dedicated to Saint Vitus. Only a quite small part of the church is possible to visit, and inside you can't really understand the true size of the church. But when you go outside, across the river, you will understand the magnitude.
Henri ( — Google review
Excellent architecture and very peaceful. You can also enjoy the river view behind the church.
Priti S — Google review
Beautiful church. This was built in 1309 and was the Family church of the Rosenbergs and several family members are buried in the church. It is late Gothic with Renaissance and Baroque additional. Stunning altar. We loved our visit. It is free to enter and highly recommend a visit.

Visited the Church of St. Vitus in Český Krumlov and it was magical! The Gothic architecture is stunning and the interior is full of beautiful frescoes, stained glass, and detailed altars. The peaceful atmosphere makes it the perfect spot to pause and soak in history. Don’t miss the tower for breathtaking views of the old town and the Vltava River. A must-see stop in Český Krumlov!

Museum Fotoatelier Seidel is a must-visit for photography enthusiasts, offering a glimpse into the 19th-century roots of European photography. Housed in the original studios of Josef and Frantisek Seidels, this captivating museum showcases historic photos, glass plate negatives, cameras, and darkroom equipment. The preserved studio provides an immersive experience with its original furnishings and personal artifacts. Visitors can also explore the nearby town park and the multifunctional cultural space at the historical synagogue.
Fascinating insight into the daily life of a local photographer. The museum is his actual old residence, portrait studio and developing room. You can book to get dressed up and have your picture taken, as if you were a client of Josef Siedel. Visited as part of the CK Tourist Card which gives you free access to 5 museums/ galleries, so can't remember how much it cost. Audio guide included. German and English speaking at the cash desk. Ask for the key to use the toilets in a separate out building, which were very clean!
Christina L — Google review
I really enjoyed this museum. The house, the furniture and the objects on display are mostly original. Even the placements of the objects follows the original. The restoration is nicely done and it allowed me to have a glimpse into life as it was during the period. It is also an interesting story of the photographer and his son.
Debbie L — Google review
One of the best places in Cesky Krumlov. I love the idea of using it as a museum on one hand and also as a photo studio on the other. Thanks to it everything seems to be so lively, so true. Moreover, there is a very nice garden, where you can relax and feel like at home. We had the tour with an audioguide, with a real guide it must be even more better.
Ajka K — Google review
The authentic place tells the story of the photographer family Seidel. You can experience the zeitgeist via hundreds of pictures, photo cameras and further equipment used to run a photo studio in the late 1800s and early 20th century. The museum was awarded several times. The place is art deco, very stylish, features a multi language audio guide and is run by very friendly and sympathetic people. This definitely is worth a visit.
Erik E — Google review
Highly recommend if you are at all interested in photography. It was amazing seeing an old photo studio just as it was 100 years ago. Fascinating information, lots of antique photographic equipment, and of course, amazing photography to view.
Nadeem — Google review
The highlight of my trip, this small museum continues to be a working photography studio with cameras and equipment from the mid 1800s. The house is beautiful and well kept. Make sure to view the attic where the original prints were kept.
Tony W — Google review
We read other reviews and visited because it was a museum not to be missed if in Cesky Krumlov. I am so glad we did. It was very interesting. It is very well presented and really does give an insight into photography. Having paid at the first house and collecting a headset in our language, we entered the main house. Each room was numbered, and selecting that number on the headset gave you an account of what was in the room. One of the rooms had a lot of artefacts and you could sit and watch a film, again in your own language by selection. We thoroughly enjoyed the house and gardens and glad we got to explore this house.
Tracey W — Google review
This place is an incredibly well preserved time capsule with an amazing collection of items that belonged to the family. You can literally feel the history here. The museum offers an “electronic guide” in English and some other languages. Absolutely recommended if you're interested in photography!

There is a bridge there where you can use it to cross over from the castle grounds to the other side. If you stand in the middle, you can get terrific pictures of the castle. The view of the river from the bridge is a scenic one.

In the heart of the town, you'll find the Fountain and Plague Column, two remarkable landmarks in the main square. The fountain, a stunning example of Baroque architecture from the 17th century, boasts intricate carvings and a crowning statue of the Virgin Mary. Nearby stands the Plague Column, also known as the Marian Column, erected in gratitude for the end of a devastating plague in the early 18th century.
A few hours of early morning walks around the town along picturesque streets, colorful with beautiful architecture are not enough. You will find many places here where you can find plenty to drink and eat... for us it was a tasty breakfast. Beautiful, atmospheric and without crowds at this time of day.

The Egon Schiele Art Centrum is a modern gallery located in a renovated 16th-century brewery in Cesky Krumlov. It showcases the works of Austrian painter Egon Schiele, as well as rotating contemporary art exhibits. The centrum also features a shop and cafe for visitors to enjoy.
A very beautiful museum with various art installations. The most important was that of the resident artist Egon Schiele but the Japanese sculptor Tets Ohnari was a great surprise. His work was amazing. The staff were very pleasant and the souvenir shop downstairs well stocked with posters and other memorabilia.
Aura R — Google review
I don’t recommend this place. The name Egon Schiele is used simply to attract people rather than because there are actual pieces. Not only is there a massive lack of originals but the photos they have of his works are bad quality and black and white. Which is almost ironic. There is one original sketchbook. It’s sat in a glass box, stuck on a single page. The other pages aren’t even photographed. There are letters. No translation. Not even rewritten. It’s just miserable. If you know nothing about Egon Schiele it might not be that bad??? But if you do know something and you visited for him? Skip this place. It’s a waste of time and money.
M. S — Google review
Absolutely stunning space in an old brewery building! Apart from a biographical Egon Schiele exhibition, there are temporary exhibitions of different Czech artists, both very good level. Obviously, the Schiele original paintings can be seen in Vienna, and Krumlov centre is more in memory of the artist, he is an inspiration. A good souvenir shop and a lovely cafe in the yard complete the picture.
Jaga — Google review
Amazing gallery, exhibitions on 3 floors. Entrance fee is around 10€, payment by card possible. At the entrance there is also a large gift shop, in the courtyard there is also a nice cafe. Definitely not to be missed when visiting the city!
N. K — Google review
Firstly, the staff is unfriendly. Secondly, if you are thinking this is a Schiele exhibition, think again. There do seem to be two very tiny originals, but that's it. Everything displayed can be found in the Internet. The paintings are either prints or projections on glass. It was a waste of time and money.
Richard ( — Google review
From an ethical standpoint, not just “modern standards", Egon Schiele’s documented behavior toward very young girls raises serious concerns. We know that: He deliberately sought out teenagers and children as models for sexually explicit work. He allowed minors into his studio where erotic material was present. He crossed boundaries of power, age, and consent in ways that today we would absolutely call exploitative and abusive. The fact that he wasn’t convicted of sexual assault doesn’t erase the ethical problem: he placed vulnerable young people in sexualized situations for his own art and gratification. So from an ethical perspective, regardless of time period, his conduct fits what we would now call predatory and abusive behavior.
Linda K — Google review
If you are not familiar with Egon Schiele life&art then you can get a good overview an impression there. The other artists weren’t my taste. The museum shop is really good.
Árpád K — Google review
A bit disappointing in that there was so little on display by Schiele himself. The temporary exhibitions were a bit meh but I suppose they were just not really my cup of tea. All a bit dingy and not very well lit.

The Regional Museum in the Czech Krumlov, located in a former school building, offers an insightful journey through the regional and local history of Cesky Krumlov. Housed in a rebuilt Baroque structure of the former Jesuit College, it showcases collections and exhibits tracing the area's history from prehistoric times to the late nineteenth century. One of its highlights is an impressive ceramic model of the city, claimed to be the largest of its kind globally.
If you're a history buff like me, you're going to enjoy this museum. It does a good job showing the history of Cesky Krumlov.

If you want to get a comprehensive and detailed information about the rich history of the city and the region, then be sure to visit this Regional Museum. It features rich archaeological collections, art and crafts, ethnography and folk medicine, as well as a large ceramic model of Český Krumlov itself.
Witold D — Google review
A nice-to-go regional museum to take a look at old Czech folks lives(and the history of this town too). It had a wide range of exhibition considering the location, and provided detailed English translated explanation for displayed pieces. The entrance fee is cheap. 60Kč per one adult. It has a clean and modern restroom inside too. I recommend you to visit here!
Garam L — Google review
Topics covered and artifacts displayed here are just what one would expect. They follow the beginnings and the development of the city up until present. I commend them that the information presented is in great detail. However it doesn't really have the vibes of a modern museum. I felt a kind of information overload as a lot of documents clippings letters are just presented as they are in glass cases and therefore very indigestible. The big model of the city is quite amazing but then again there are no audio visual effects or at least some lights to guide your eye to wander over it. In short my interest wasn't piqued and I would just have a quick walk through. That may be why I was the only person inside.
Debbie L — Google review
A neat and small museum that will take you an hour, nicely organized to learn about the history of this beautiful city. I recommend it.

The Český Krumlov Castle Tower is a stunning Renaissance structure that stands as a prominent feature of the town's skyline. With its long staircase leading to an observation deck, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking views of the charming streets and iconic red-roofed buildings below, along with the winding Vltava River.
The Český Krumlov Castle Tower is an absolute must-visit! Climbing to the top rewards you with a breathtaking panoramic view of the old town and the winding Vltava River, surrounded by charming red-roofed buildings. The architecture of the tower is stunning, with historic details that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Important note: Be very careful when going down — the steps are uneven in height and shape, and some can be narrow or slightly slanted. It’s best to take your time, wear comfortable shoes, and watch your step closely.

Stunning tower located within the Castle area. The views of the city are just breathtaking. It is 162 steps to the top. The walk was not bad at all, but it does get narrow at the top. Few spots to stop along the way and see some of the exhibits. One bell in the tower is from 1406. Amazing. There is also a cool Dungeon established by the Lords of Krumlov. Loved the visit and the views. Requires a ticket to be purchased but that ticket includes the entire castle complex.
Michael M — Google review
Perfect viewpoint overlooking the towns old center. Not a very hard climb (150+ steps) so worth it. It wasn’t very busy so you can check out the panoramic view without the crowds. (In august) you will pay for a ticket though, but you also get to visit a museum.
Toufic T — Google review
The tour I joined was too big. There was more than 30 people with only one guide. So I couldn’t engage enough with the information from the guide. The place is beautiful but the rooms we were allowed to go in as a part of the tour was fewer than I expected. The guide was friendly and enthusiastic tho, I could see he tried his best. But the group was just too big.

What a great place to visit. To avoid all massive crowds I would go as early as possible 9am. Walk up the stairs and go all the way down the hallway past the cafe to buy your tickets 👍The views from the top are just so magical. There was fog this early morning ♥️

Seminární zahrada, located on the side of Cesky Krumlov, offers one of the best panoramic views of the city. From this vantage point, visitors can admire the Vltava river winding around the town, as well as the castle tower and charming red roofs. The garden provides a serene and peaceful atmosphere without being crowded, making it an ideal spot to relax and take in the breathtaking scenery.
This park offers one of the most incredible views of Cesky Krumlov Castle Complex and Tower, Parkan, Vlava River, churches, and quaint houses. Totally worth a visit. In my opinion this is the second best view point. The best view is the a small garden between the castle bridge and the castle garden. They sell beer, coffee and snacks there too.

Guys! Don’t miss this place! It’s a must to stop by to see this beautiful view on the right side of the town over viewing the old tower! It was simply amazing I spent most day there because I’ve walked everywhere! Would enjoy this place again maybe on sunrise!

Review: The garden with a stunning panoramic view of Cesky Krumlov was simply breathtaking. It offered a serene and peaceful atmosphere, with the added bonus of not being crowded. Its convenient location near the center of the city made it easily accessible. Although small in size, the garden provided a perfect vantage point to admire the beauty of Cesky Krumlov. Highly recommended for those seeking a tranquil spot with an incredible view.

Cloak Bridge is a centuries-old, multi-arched bridge that spans the castle moat in a charming old town. Visitors can walk over or under the bridge for free and enjoy stunning views of the castle and surrounding area. The bridge has historical significance dating back to the 15th century and is considered one of the biggest local architectural sights. It connects the castle with its garden and theater, offering impressive views from every angle.
This place is super nice from high above as you can see from my panoramic photo. Was visiting this place via #EmeraldCruises on its #DanubeRiverCruise. There are two bears in their bear conservation area too. We spent a few hours here just walking around.

I visited this town on a rainy day. However, I wanted to walk outside to soak in the views here. There are plenty of amazing sites and one of them is this bridge. I had taken a photo from the above, and then I walked down to the ground level to get another vantage point of this amazing structure.

I'm grateful that there is no entrance fee so that the view of the town is accessible to everyone. In addition to going over the (short) bridge, it's neat to see it from in front (brown bridge over river) and behind (park). I also did the castle tower, which has an entrance fee (and a much better view). Glad to have done both, and again, glad that there is an accessible option for a view.
Corrie C — Google review
Great view from the top of the bridge and look up the whole bridge from the bottom. No ticket needed for this amazing view. Really recommend this place for all the tourists to visit and enjoy it!
Chang C — Google review
The castle itself is absolutely stunning, with rich history and incredible architecture. The views of the city from the bridge are breathtaking, one of the highlights of our visit. Walking through the grounds really gives you a sense of the past, and it's easy to see why this is such a popular destination.

The Castle Garden in Český Krumlov is a sprawling 17th-century baroque garden surrounding the State Castle. It offers a sense of calmness and tranquility, with its symmetrical and well-groomed layout. The historical landmark boasts impeccable maintenance and breathtaking views, making it a must-visit. Latrán is the main street in Cesky Krumlov, offering a charming walk lined with quaint houses that have been transformed into gift shops. While it may be touristy, taking a stroll through the back alleys can lead to surprising views of the castle and river. Turning right on Latran will lead you to Cesky Krumlov Original, where you can find traditional Czech souvenirs such as gingerbreads, mead, chocolates, and other regional specialties.

I believe that overnight stays are only worth it in the summer during the cold months, as the city has no nightlife. Through Regiojet, a bus company that connects Prague to Krumlov in three hours, the bus has on-board service, coffee, hot chocolate and a multimedia system. There is another bus company that also does this route, but I believe that the difference in price is not worth it. Cesky Krumlov is practically located around the river that almost completely surrounds it, forming an "s" between the city and the castle, which has free entrance for visitors. Amidst the old buildings and souvenir shops and local restaurants, its narrow streets are a discovery at every corner. I believe that a five-hour visit to the city is enough. As mentioned, overnight stays are only possible on hot days, and dragging suitcases along its cobblestone streets is not an easy task. Located on the city's Central Square, Krumlov Town Hall has become a symbol of unity. The Town Hall is a wide, white, three-story building on the main town square in Cesky Krumlov. The building in its current form arose in 17, by combining two old Gothic houses. On the ground floor there is a wide corridor connected to the streets by large arched spans. On one of the vaults, fragments of wall paintings dating from the first half of the 15th century were discovered, depicting the worship of the Magi to the born Savior. The building served administrative purposes for the management of the city, so meeting rooms were equipped inside. In the basement of the town hall there is a Museum of Torture, which displays 100 exhibits of instruments of torture and 10 wax figures. Nestled in the heart of Cesky Krumlov, the Monastery of the Minorites is a captivating 14th-century Catholic sanctuary that invites visitors to explore its rich history and artistic treasures. Founded in 1350 by Peter of Rozmberk and his wife Catherine, this monastery showcases an impressive blend of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture.

In the oldest district of Český Krumlov, Latran, not far from Krumlov Castle, behind a baroque arched gate, lies the Minorite monastery, better known as the monastery of the Knights of the Red Cross. This is one of the mysterious and hidden places in the city. The monasteries of Český Krumlov are a unique district in the historical center of the city, registered on the UNESCO list. The exhibition introduces the history of Český Krumlov and its monasteries. At the entrance to the exhibition there is a model of the monastery complex, including its gardens. It is easy to see why monasteries are an important part of Český Krumlov and what role they played in the formation of the city. The exhibition correctly shows the period from the first written mention of the city in 1253, its heyday during the reign of the Rosenbergs and the establishment of monasteries in modern history, as well as the dissolution of the Minorite monastery in 1950.

We had a wonderful experience and atmosphere in the old town of Krumlov. There is a lot to see and to do. Also nice restaurants, coffee shops, hotels and shops for shopping. We stayed in the Bellevue Spa hotel, in the old town area. Very central but not really a Spa hotel if you must book and pay extra for the Spa / sauna's use, I think😉 This town gives a feeling of Tuscany with all the red roofs. Also a bit like a small Prague...well to me at least. A must to visit.

This review is based on my experience with the staff not the place itself. I got the Cesky Krumlov card and was going to visit all of the included museums. But even in a day and a half it wasn't easy as the castle apartments and theatre are separate attractions and they require quite a bit of time. I decided to leave this museum until last but did find my way there earlier and double checked with the lady at the reception if they were closing at 6pm. She didn't speak good English and wasn't pleasant at all. When I returned at 5:10pm I thought I could have a quick look. It's ok if it wasn't possible but the attitude was very off putting. She could have told me or they could put up a sign for her to point to that last admission was at 5pm. Even the brochures given by the information centre don't mention that. I said it's ok I just want to have a quick look as I was leaving the next day, but was bluntly refused.

The Museum of Commerce in Cesky Krumlov has a rich history dating back to the mid-14th century when it was home to the monasteries of Minorites and Clare nuns. The museum offers free entry and provides an opportunity to immerse oneself in the town's commercial history, with retro decorations that appeal to enthusiasts of bygone eras. Visitors can explore vintage publicity posters and enamel signs, as well as purchase cute souvenirs from the simple shop on-site.
I'm a fan of these small niche museums. And I like vintage lithograph tins. So this was a real treat for me. Entry is free but there is a donation box. It is worth 10 minutes of your time and there are repro tin signs and fridge magnets to buy.

Lovely little park, to relax after a stroll at the caste and narrow streets....we visited during October last year (fall season), and the entire park was turned yellow and gold....
Rafeeque A — Google review
The territory of the city park has been used as an economic background since time immemorial. In addition to agricultural buildings, there used to be meadows, fields and gardens here. Since the end of the 16th century, this area has become a resting place and a garden for the Jesuits. They lived on the other bank of the Vltava in a dormitory and walked into the garden across the river on a suspension bridge. In 1662, they built a summer residence and an ornamental Baroque garden in the area of the current park, protected from floods by dikes. In 1585, the cemetery was moved here from the church of St. Vitus. Cemetery Chapel of St. Martin underwent a number of building modifications. Originally a wooden building was replaced in 1717 by a brick one, which was redesigned to its current form in 1737. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the park underwent a drastic transformation. In 1885, a river swimming pool was established on the banks of the Vltava. In 1892, the cemetery with the chapel of St. Martin were abolished and then the Jesuit Garden became municipal property. Martina a tehdy Jezuitská zahrada přešla do obecního vlastnictví.

Lovely walk around area next to the castle of Cesky Krumlov. Views around the town from high altitude are fantastic. It may be a little too many walking up and down for the children if they are small but it's worth it. Perfect in winter time and I guess in summer :-)

Historical landmark
Budweiser Gate (Budějovická Gate) is the sole surviving gate out of the original nine in the city. Constructed between 1598-1602, it was designed by Italian architect Domenico Benedetto Cometta of Eckthurn and funded by Petr Vok of Rozmberk. The two-story quadrangular tower features frescoed decoration on its inner side and a sundial on the second floor.
The Budějovická Gate is the only remaining gate of the original nine that once surrounded Český Krumlov. With its striking Renaissance architecture and well-preserved details, it offers a glimpse into the town’s rich past. Crossing the gate, you're welcomed by beautiful natural views.
Priti S — Google review
Budějovická Gate was built between 1598 - 1602 according to the plan made by Benedict Cometta and at the expense of Peter Vok of Rosenberg. Český Krumlov originally had nine gates, which were incorporated into the town fortifications. Eight of them were gradually pulled down in the 19th century and Budějovická Gate was the only one to remain. In comparison to the other gates, whose appearance is only partly known from historical pictures, it stood out due to its daring architectural solution and Renaissance decoration. A noteworthy fact about Budějovická Gate is its conception of two dif-ferent expressions on its two façades, one towards the town and the other facing outward. The outer rectangular decoration of the façade with its battle-ments and pointed edge of the tower makes the impression of massive fortifications to put off enemies and, on the reverse side, the red colour of the façade facing the town, with its sundial and playful Renaissance ornaments surrounding the windows, shows the inhabitants of the town its smiling face.

This over 400-year-old town entrance gate looks great and invites you to visit this extraordinary town. You can feel like you're on a fairy-tale movie set... in fact, the whole town has such magic.

Very nice place, well located and with a view of the city, the staff are very friendly, polite and speak excellent English, they were very kind, the food was very good and at an excellent price, it is an excellent option for healthy and tasty food. I highly recommend it.

The only surviving of the nine city gates was built in the years 1598-1602 by the Italian architect Domenico Benedetto Cometta of Eckthurn at the expense of Petr Vok of Rožmberk. The two-storey quadrangular tower had a different effect on the conquerors of the city and differently on its defenders and burghers: from the outer (northern) side it evokes the illusion of a massive fortification and its façade is covered by a huge protective wall topped by battlements. The inner side is richly decorated with frescoes with a sundial on the level of the second floor. Access to the gate was originally provided by a wooden drawbridge, its holes with wooden pulleys are still preserved. A modern city emblem is installed in the area above the portal. Přístup k bráně původně zabezpečoval dřevěný padací most, otvory s dřevěnými kladkami jsou dosud zachovány. V ploše nad portálem je osazen novodobý městský znak.

Nestled along the serene banks of the Vltava River, the Egon Schiele atelier is a charming house that served as both home and studio for the renowned artist in 1911. Surrounded by lush roses and vines, this enchanting location inspired some of Schiele's most celebrated works, including "Town on the Blue River" and "Krumlov by Night." Open to visitors during summer months, it offers a glimpse into the authentic atmosphere where creativity flourished.
What a nice place. You can have warm and cold beverages, a little chat about Egon Schiele, have a look at contemporary photography of rather good looking female people with their clothes not worn at the time of shooting the picture, sit somewhere on the river Moldau banks or up above on the many terraces and have a really good time. On the Moldau the small boats come by and give the scenery a lively atmosphere. Anything else is calm and sincere. I recommend the latte style ice coffee.

Very nice place, downstairs there is a café, upstairs there is an exhibition on two floors. It's really small, the entrance fee is 2 €. Payment by card is possible. Nice view of the park.

Be aware that this is someone's house, and do not expect to be welcome in it despite the fact that there are information signs describing it, signs pointing the way and distance to it, a sign on the upstairs door pointing to the downstairs door as the entrance, and an open door. I would not have know this place existed without all the signage in town pointing it out. I feel like if the owner doesn't want random people showing up, then maybe they should discuss removing signs with the town. Very rude despite us apologizing several times. That said, it's a pretty house with a small art gallery.

I love the works of ES. So this was a pilgrimage for me. The atelier was good and restored very well. It was moving to see his bed and few personal effects. The book showing the process of restoration was in useful. Else it is a very simple place as is to be expected of the times gone by.

Kaple svatého Martina, also known as Saint Martin Chapel, is a charming little chapel with a distinctive light blue exterior. Originally established in 1585 as a wooden structure alongside a new cemetery, it was later replaced by a stone Baroque chapel in 1717. The Jesuits constructed a house for the sick near the chapel at that time.
The Kaple is located on south side of česky krumlov in Mestsky park When I was there the kaple was close look like nobody was inside for a long time

The small chapel was built as a wooden cemetery chapel in 1585 together as a part of new graveyard which was to replace the old one at St. Vitus Church. Since 1969, the chapel has been used as a seat of the Czech Hussitic Church Chorus. Occasionally, spiritual music concerts take place there.

Kláštery Český Krumlov is a serene complex of medieval buildings dating back to the 14th century, featuring frescoes, a chapel, exhibits, workshops, and events. The property includes a Beguine Convent with a Baroque altar, organ, and statues of saints. It offers an interactive museum experience suitable for young children with illustration exhibitions and hands-on activities like painting and making bath salts. Visitors can also explore small workshops in the adjacent street.
Daughter and I visited only the second exposition and were amazed. Really good interactive presentation of a renesaince clothing and a work in a monastery, where you can create your own souvenirs. Unfortunatelly texts are almost all in Czech (which I luckily understand some), but it didn’t bother my daughter 😄

Visitors can marvel at replicas of movie stars, medieval rulers, and other famous individuals. Additionally, the museum offers a replica of a medieval town, making it an enjoyable destination for families with children.
The museum features wax figures of famous personalities from various fields, including cinema, music, politics, and history. From Albert Einstein and Michael Jackson to modern day celebrities! The layout of the museum is well designed, providing an enjoyable and interactive way to discover the stories of the personalities who have left their mark on the world. The figures are so lifelike that they create a memorable experience and you can take photos with them, making for wonderful memories. Additionally, there is an offer with the TORTURY Museum, where, instead of paying 150 CZK, you pay 200 CZK and gain access to both museums, making it a great deal for those who want to explore two different worlds in one visit.

23A Moat with Bears

At "A Moat with Bears," visitors can enjoy a delightful experience observing two adorable brown bears that are as charming as they are lazy. Often found napping or playfully scratching themselves, these friendly creatures have become beloved residents of the castle's moat. Originally part of a tradition, their current role focuses on rehabilitation rather than entertainment. The bears receive ample enrichment and nutritious food, ensuring they remain in excellent physical and mental health.
The presence of bears in the moat of Český Krumlov Castle isn’t a tourist attraction, it’s a scar at the heart of the town. These Eurasian brown bears are confined to a historic structure that is, in reality, deeply inadequate from an ethological, ecological, and ethical standpoint, And it's similar to a medieval prison, With the bears forced to live, sleep and defecate on the concrete floor of the pit and can only see concrete walls and the sky. Only a small area is dirt As a brown bear passionate , i spent hours, over multiple days, observing their behavior. What I witnessed is difficult to forget: profoundly bored animals, engaged in monotonous, repetitive movements all day long. The female walks in circles all day, while the male follows the same mechanical cycle: stand up against the wall, shake his head, walk toward the small vaulted cell, enter, exit, and return to the same spot, without any variation, All day, every day. The female, on night (The pit is fully Illuminated at night) often remains curled up in a dark corner, motionless or pacing listlessly, seemingly disengaged from her surroundings. The third bear in the adjacent moat repeatedly approaches the bars or lingers near them, as though waiting for something that will never come. Food is carelessly scattered. bread, apples, carrots, yet the bears barely eat. Occasionally, one lazily picks up a piece, carries it a few steps, then drops it and continues wandering. It’s as if the act of eating has lost all meaning. There’s no enrichment, no engagement, no stimulation. No staff interaction, no attempts at mental stimulation. Just an ongoing, lifeless routine. Their movements are stiff, uncoordinated as if muscular pain, joint stiffness or physical decline accompany their psychological malaise. This environment suffocates them. Tourists take quick photos and move on, unaware of the silent despair. But for anyone who stops to look for a while, the stillness and emptiness become painfully obvious. This is not conservation or education. it is a prison, dressed up as history. A place where the life of three living beings was denied for nothing, and one can see the psychological damage caused by this condition that could have been absolutely avoidable.. And finally, I tried to ask the caretaker and the castle management about these bears, but I was rudely sent away. (Even though I was a tourist only guy with Bear passion) Český Krumlov Castle deserves admiration, but housing bears in this moat under the guise of tradition and showmanship clashes with modern sensibility and knowledge. It's time to reassess the ethics behind keeping living beings here. These bears deserve more like natural habitats, liberty, stimulation, dignity. Not "lives" locked in repetitive, silent loops.
Lorenzo — Google review
We truly love animals and in 2025 it is painful to see them captive in such a small enclosure. While we do understand and respect tradition, the bears should be kept in a larger space with a clean water pond. To be noted that we did see them being fed with fresh fruit and vegetables, but the space is barely acceptable for animals to have a healthy life.
Tiziana — Google review
Mixed feelings about the place. On the other hand, it is a tradition, and they are supposedly "rescue" bears unable to live in the wild. But on the other hand, the moat is just way too small - it is an animal prison. Even though the bears seem to be in good condition, it was more sad than an enjoyment to watch them. They should definitely build better ans larger living quarters for the bears and if it is not possible, they should move the bears somewher else permanently
Henri ( — Google review
Everything seemed perfect: the streets, the castle, the atmosphere… a truly beautiful place. But what completely ruined the experience were the two bears kept in captivity as a tourist attraction. It’s 2025 — it’s unbelievable that this kind of cruelty still exists. Seeing the bears in such a small space, visibly stressed (one even has bald patches from the anxiety), was heartbreaking. It felt like not only the city is medieval, but also the mindset of those who think this is acceptable today. I was having a great time until I saw this. Honestly, a huge disappointment. I really hope this outdated and unnecessary cruelty comes to an end soon.
Daphne V — Google review
It was disheartening to see the bears kept in the moat. While they are clearly a long-standing attraction and yes, we did stop to see them, it was upsetting to witness their living conditions. Their enclosure lacks stimulation, greenery, and seems far too small for animals of their size and intelligence. It feels like they serve no purpose beyond being a tourist photo-op, which is a shame. I hope the management considers improving their habitat — or better yet, relocating them to a sanctuary where their well-being comes first. It would make this beautiful historic site even more admirable.
Eric S — Google review
This pit for two bears makes me incredible sad and disgusted. You can clearly see that the bears have tol little space and not much to do. One bear in particular did the exact walking in circles every so minutes. Meanwhile we all stood and take pictures up from above for our enjoyment. I am disgusted by this so called attraction. But i dont know what to do but leave this review of this terrible bear pit. But the people of this Castle and this place should ask themselves if the bears are really that important for a castle that already is a great sightseeing in itself. Does it really need its tourist to be met first hand with animals in such a state?
Bent A — Google review

The atmosphere of Cesky Krumlov and Lavka Pod Zamkem is superior to Prague in a multitude of factors. Not only is the tranquility of Cesky Krumlov superior to Prague, but more importantly, it is less touristy, the architecture is far more serene and the general landscape of Cesky Krumlov is definately more picturesque during early afternoon. Despite this, both Prague and Cesky Krumlov have been unfortunately plagued by the infestation of tourist shops - literally everywhere you walk, there is a tourist shop. This most certainly ruins the prevailing atmosphere of Cesky and so, I rate it a 8/10.

26Vyhlídka

Mentioned on
1 list
Vyhlídka is a hidden gem in Chesky Krumlov, offering a sweeping panorama of the entire town. Unlike its more famous cousin, this viewpoint provides metal grills that are tall enough for visitors to lean back and strike a pose while taking in the stunning scenery. Despite being located along a busy road, it's definitely worth the stroll from the town center.
Vyhlídka is the first spot you encounter as soon as you step off the bus and head toward the center of Karlovy Vary. From the very first moment you are captivated by the breathtaking beauty of the scenery. The name “Vyhlídka” which means “viewpoint” in Czech lives up to its reputation in every sense. The view from this spot is simply amazing, the old town stretches out before you, with its stunning architecture, colorful facades and lush green forests surrounding the area. Whether you visit during the day or at night, the experience is equally unforgettable.

Bridge
Vltava Bridge, also known as the Dr. Edvard Benes Bridge, is a serene and picturesque spot that connects the bustling old town center to the quieter side of Prague. It offers a closer yet complete view of St. Vitus church with its photogenic gold spire. The bridge is an important transport hub and a unique functionalist construction that provides a beautiful ambience for visitors to enjoy while watching boats on the Vltava River.
The Vltava Bridge in Prague is a stunning structure that offers breathtaking views of the city. With its Gothic architecture and intricate details, the bridge is a must-see for any visitor to Prague. Located in the heart of the city, the Vltava Bridge connects the Old Town and the Lesser Town. As you walk across the bridge, you'll be surrounded by the vibrant atmosphere of Prague. The bridge is also a popular spot for people to gather and enjoy the beautiful scenery. One of the highlights of the Vltava Bridge is the Charles Bridge, which is located nearby. The Charles Bridge is a historic stone bridge that crosses the Vltava River. It is one of the most famous landmarks in Prague and is a popular tourist destination. If you're looking for a place to relax and enjoy the view, the Vltava Bridge is a great option. There are several benches along the bridge where you can sit and take in the scenery. You can also enjoy a meal or a drink at one of the many restaurants and cafes located near the bridge. Overall, the Vltava Bridge is a beautiful and historic structure that is well worth a visit. Whether you're interested in architecture, history, or simply want to enjoy a leisurely stroll, the Vltava Bridge is a great place to spend some time in Prague.

(Translated by Google) Thanks to the meanders of the Vltava, Český Krumlov has 23 bridges and eight footbridges in its possession, which ranks it - despite its small area - among the true Czech "bridge metropolises", such as the much larger Prague. Most Dr. Edvard Beneš from 1929 is not only a unique functionalist construction, but also an important transport hub. Passing through the historic center without it would be very problematic. Unfortunately, it is not in good technical condition, since 2014 it has a reduced load capacity and cars heavier than 6 tons are not allowed on it. Its useful life is over and a complete reconstruction has been recommended, but there is a lack of money for it. The footpaths on both sides of the bridge have been closed with wooden barriers since 2018, so you have to walk on the road, luckily there is mostly no traffic. You will definitely take the most impressive photos of the church of St. Welcome. Interesting fact: the germ of destruction is already in the bridge structure itself. At the time of its post-war generals, there was a regulation that so-called "permanent equipment shafts" had to be placed in it - which are actually boxes for storing explosives, thanks to which it would be possible to quickly blow up the building if we were threatened by an imperialist enemy. The Beneš Bridge has three such shafts - and it is through those boxes that most of the water flows into the bridge. At the time of its post-WWII general reconstruction, there was a prescription that so-called "permanent equipment shafts" must be located in it - which are actually boxes for storing explosives, thanks to which the bridge could be blown up quickly if we were "threatened by an imperialist enemy". Beneš Bridge has three such shafts - and it is right through these boxes that the water gets into the bridge the most. Benešův most má takové šachty hned tři - a právě těmi boxy do mostu nejvice zatéká.
