We ordered tuna and beef steak. The tuna was excellent. Respect to the chef because the beef steak was prepared according to art but the quality of the meat was good for a goulash. The wine was wonderful.

Plaza Santa Maya is a must-visit walk through spot in Valparaíso! It’s beautifully nestled among some important historical buildings and sits right at the base of a couple of the city’s iconic cable cars. When I visited on a Saturday, there was a charming little craft fair happening, adding even more color and life to the plaza. The city center.. beautiful old colonial building around the plaza. Use the funicular ride to go up the hill. Nice area to explore. Mall are around the plaza, with foodcourt and toilet. Its quite crowded on the afternoon and a nice place to hang around.

It’s home to the impressive blue Naval Headquarters building and the Monument to the Heroes of Iquique, which honors Chilean sailors. Surrounded by historic architecture and close to the port, the plaza combines history, culture, and daily local life. A must-see landmark before taking the funiculars up to the colorful hills.

Was ok but no where to park and the plaza is not like the typical plazas we’ve visited where you can grab a bench and relax. It was in the middle of two busy, busy streets.

When the artisanal market "Victoria Porteña" is there you can see some of the best local art made by porteños themselves such as fine stone jewellery, silk-screen printing, wood-cut printing, wooden puzzles, knitted clothing among others. You can also get great food in the local restaurants around the plaza and visit Muelle Prat for a boat ride. Recently, works have been announced for this place by the city so it could be closed in the near future

One of the most beautiful places in Chile! I found this place on a Google search as I was looking for a day trip from Santiago. It's about 2 hrs away but a pretty drive in the fall. The town is built on a hill and is a major port of the country. The old buildings are so colorful and pretty! There are lots of good seafood restaurants in the area. Very nice area to walk around. The roads are narrow and tough for cars. Some good viewpoints of the ocean and city as well. Need to come back to explore more!!

This hill is one of the most touristy parts of Valpo so you definitely should check it out, but you can skip the restaurants up there because you're paying for prime real estate instead of the food. It's certainly very colorful and you have to walk through it if you are on a walking tour.

Walk this Neighbourhood. Valparaíso is not a beautiful city, but a rather badly maintained mix of architecture, while having the typical chaos and rowdiness of a traditional port city. Nevertheless the Cerro Concepción thrives in this, allowing the liberty of art and alternative lifestyles to express themselves here. Most houses are covered in graffiti art (or not so art), making for a pleasant walk along its narrow streets and many photo opportunities.

Nice hill, plenty of little restaurants, there are some public terraces with bay view and lot of streets that go around rustic places. This is a very old city with history all around.

Dangerous place for tourists! We walked in to see the funicular and my husband was almost mugged…in broad daylight. Not safe.

Fun way to naviguate the two levels of the city. It costs 30 CLP and is a quick way to go up and down without climbing lots of stairs. This elevator is in service since the late 1800s and it fels like it: the ride is a bit shaky but it's quick!

I took the lift which was 100 chilean pesos. I didn’t have cash but luckily a local had a gave me the change. It was quite fun taking it but remember to have some cash for it. The views on the top are quite nice.

At the top of Artilleria, the great Naval Museum and a row of souvenir shops along the Paseo 21 de mayo - I also have a review. There are places to eat or buy fast food or candy at the top of both ascensores. Photos below are for both. While this is a definite local hangout with a unique vibe and lots of various cocktails and beers, we were recommended to go there for the food by our guide. Unfortunately, when we went the food was awful. My wife had steak, which was poor quality and overcooked. I ordered pork ribs, which was not what I got but I’ll chock that up to “lost in translation”. But the pork was also poor quality and had little flavor. Go for a cocktail and local flare but do not eat there.

TERRIBLE, 5 different waiters could’t get an order right. They had no food left apart from fries by 8. Don’t come here. Just go eat somewhere else, and if you come maybe order a beer at the bar, that should be easy to get it right!

The drinks a pretty good here. The food is okay, the night I went, they didn’t have most items on the menu. There also was a show the night I went, which made it a little bit harder to get a server, but I understand. Overall, this is definitely a place locals go to grab a drink and hang out.

The service was great as they were all very friendly and helpful. Great drinks and delicious Chilean food. The live music (a man singing to playback) that started at 9 pm was quite entertaining. All in all, it's a very cozy and local place where we spent a very nice evening.

Super cool street art in a residential part of Valparaiso. We loved the vibrant works which genuinely transforms the city’s streets into canvas. Highly recommended for art enthusiasts as some of these could be exhibited anywhere in the world. We visited late afternoon for great photos.

There are still some nice murals to see but the whole place feels kinda abandoned by artists and visitors now. A big let down was that the Funicular was running and didn't look like it was going to be running anytime soon. From the plaza Victoria you have to walk up stairs. Hopefully in the near future there can be more investments in the area to make it a nice place again.

Valparaíso City was disappointing during my visit. The streets felt unsafe, especially at night, with little police presence. Cleanliness is a major issue—there's trash in many areas, and some parts smell bad. The city’s infrastructure looks run-down with poor sidewalks and broken roads, making it hard to walk around comfortably. While the colorful buildings and murals are beautiful, they’re overshadowed by the city’s neglect. It has potential, but it needs a lot of improvement to feel welcoming.

We went to a concert and gambling. The slots really don't pay. We are used to casinos in the US and this one is tight. The show itself was good (Raul DiBlasio- a pianist) was very good. The organization of the casino was just ok. The initial entry to the amphitheater was too slow. We all waited for about 1/2 hour before door opened. They should start seating earlier. The place was so hot that the fans turned on mid performance. They were loud and we could not hear. Luckily the complaints made them turn the fans off.

Perfect Valparaiso view with a five stars service, they will treat you well and will help you to relax and enjoy the view. They just need to improve some food options, but overall, they made it.

Local friends did recommend it as a top restaurant in the Valparaiso area. We enjoyed one appetizer; one ceviche was excellent but found the other tuna tartar salty. Mains were both different "pasteles", one jaiba and other mix salmon, and shrimp quite nice. Menu is changing as we were told. Reserve if you would like a table at the terrace/balcony. The service was excellent, prices are on the high side.

I really love this place and have visited three times in three years - I particularly liked this years commemoration of the evacuation of Dunkirk in the Second World War .... this was to show the participation of one of the “little ships” which too part in the evacuation and a few years afterwards became the bote salvavidas in Valparaíso- this museum is first class and graphically shows the development of naval warfare in Chile and has some amazing artefacts and exhibits including some from the Pacific war and battle of Iquique which saw the sacrifice of Capitan de Fregata Arturo Prat and his crew aboard CNS Esmeralda - I thoroughly recommend a visit

Worth the cheap entry fee. Not my fave art but it a beautiful space and interior and one of the docents, Matilde? Miranda? is LOVELY. We had a wonderful conversation as I wandered the spacious museum. I went soon after it opened about 10:30am but would recommend going later as the AM fog obliterates any views from the palace and windows. The fog lifts early afternoon. English explanation at the entry but not thought out. Very nice on-site café as well with good empanadas and carrot cake cookies! Friendly staff and I was happy I could charge my phone.

Superb art museum located in an early 20th century art nouveau styled mansion. The home is beautiful and the quality of the paintings is astounding. The collection originates mostly from Europe, but has plenty of Chilean works as well. Nice cafe and clean bathroom, too. This is a must see visit in Valparaiso.

Its quite a nice collection and is worth a visit. There are also two temporary exhibits free of charge that you can take a look. When I was there, the exhibits were photos of Chile and of tattoos.

My wife ordered the Pulpo Grillado. It was difficult to cut with a knife and more difficult to chew. Very disappointing. I ordered the baby lomo. It had good flavor but was over cooked. The papas fritas were the best part of the meal. My wife asked for a gin tonic with pepino (cucumber). It came with fruits. My cerveza was excellent. The server was very friendly and helpful, but the service was exceptionally slow. The pulpo was not eaten but we still paid for it. They did offer to exchange for something else, but given the food we already had, it seemed pointless to try something else. Celebrated my birthday at Casalegre. We didn’t have a prior booking but managed to get a table quickly. There was a musician singing and playing guitar which added to the ambience very nicely. The staff were very attentive and professional and when they found out it was my birthday they surprised me with a serenade from the musician! The food was really fresh and each dish had a distinct flavour. The salmon was delicate and zesty, the beef salad was fresh and was everything you’d want from a salad and the octopus was tender with an explosion of flavours from the thinly sliced peppers, tomato and red onion. Would highly recommend and would definitely go again!

The food here was really delicious and affordable, especially for its location and the surrounding restaurants. I recommend getting the ceviche, as it's very filling and wonderful on a hot summer day. I'm docking points because we were waiting for 45 minutes after we finished eating for the check and ended up missing some performances in town. There seemed to be only 1 waiter attending to other customers and 2 others that weren't very helpful at all. I wish I could give 5 stars but honestly it was really annoying seeing other people pay before us even though we had asked first.

Valparaiso for me, is not a destination I would return to. It’s a port city and full of colorful communities over the hills. It looked very similar to Brazilians Favelas. Some old buildings along the way, but nothing that you would be amazed by.

Good view on all the shambles of shanty town. Has plenty corners people like to piss. Since opening of the Panama Canal and the loss of importance of the harbour the city has transformed into a big favela. The elevator- how else - was permanently out of service. Not worth a visit.

The first tour we did was the Valparaiso highlights. That one was our favorite because it focused a lot on street art and muralism. Our guide, Camilo, was really passionate about art and gave us tons of insight. So yeah, that tour was awesome. We liked it so much that we signed up for the Offbeat tour the next day, which takes you to spots where tourists don’t usually go. That was super interesting too. We had Camilo and Felipe together for that one, and both of them were fantastic. Camilo’s real gift is the way he talks about history and politics — and somehow makes it fascinating. For three hours straight, we were totally hooked. So yeah, both tours were amazing. We absolutely recommend them.

My wife and I recently joined the 1pm tour with Camilo. There was another family of 3 with us so it made for a very small group, which is typical during these winter months. My mum and I booked (last min - only the day before) on The Casablanca Valley Wine Bus and thoroughly enjoyed it. Al was our driver, and as a trained sommelier his expert knowledge on the journey between vineyards was impressive and engaging. We went to three lovely vineyards, each of different scales and ethics. We loved the flexibility to do whatever we wanted, on our own, at the vineyard, e.g. buy wine by the glass, have a tour, do a tasting and pairing etc. Al was always on hand if we needed him but also gave us space to enjoy the beautiful venues on our own. This was perfect for us! I highly recommend it.

I did a Breeze Tour one lovely Saturday afternoon in early December 2023. I was picked up from my accommodation in Valparaiso, and traveled by car to two wonderful vineyards in Casablanca Valley for a most enjoyable afternoon of wine tasting, together with two other travellers. We visited Emiliana Winery (organic winery) and tasted 2 whites (a sauvignion blanc and a chardonnay) and 2 reds (one which was their speciality with a mix of 8(!!!!) grapes which was absolutely delicious). We were also treated to try a rosé that was not originally a part of the tasting. This winery is a nestled in most amazing and relaxed location. An oasis in a valley surrounded by hills. A beautiful vineyard, that also has alpacas!! We then continued to Bodega RE, a winery that specialises in mixing their own combinations. Among other wines, we were treated to try one of their specialties from 2014!! - a very nice red wine that grew in flavour the more one waited. Sebastian, our tour guide, was super friendly and informative about the region, and a most excellent guide. I highly recommend doing a wine tour with Valparaiso Wine tours!!!!! Hot tip: as there is no real time to also order food on the Breeze tour I suggest to bring some snacks, or a sandwich with you to eat between vineyards!! Or do the Understanding Tour that includes dinner.

We had an amazing day with Al, our guide. He’s not only a sommelier, but also speaks excellent English and has deep knowledge of both Chilean wines and the country’s history. He shared so much about Chilean culture as well, and was truly a pleasure to listen to. We really enjoyed the three vineyards we visited – each one offered something unique. Personally, I wasn’t feeling well that day and probably should’ve stayed at the hotel. But even with that, Al went above and beyond. He took great care of me and even brought me to a pharmacy to find something that could help. Honestly, the service was exceptional on every level. Highly recommend this experience!

My husband and I had the best time on this tour. We were picked up from our Airbnb and went to three amazing wineries, all of which were very different. We learnt a lot about the region and tried some great wines. Our tour guide, Al, was awesome!
