Thai restaurant
Khao Soi Khun Yai is a popular spot located near Chiang Mai's largest mosque, offering a diverse array of dishes and ingredients inspired by the Muslim world. The weekly market features vendors selling samosas, goat meat, air-dried pork, pickled vegetables, seasoned rice dishes, sweets, unique produce, and delicious noodle dishes. It's a great place to explore even if you're not planning to cook.
--- Absolutely incredible Khao Soi — rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Every bite bursts with depth and character, from the creamy curry to the crispy noodles on top. This is local food at its very best — no shortcuts, no compromises, just real northern Thai soul in a bowl. Worth every step of the search. A true hidden gem. Lotus bud soft drink is a must!

We paid 60bath each for such a tasty meal; it was so goood (It can be a bit spicy for European taste but still we ate everything and we never eat spicy in general)

20/October/2025 Had khao soi chicken leg for lunch, was quite good. The dish served was lukewarm, can be warmer. Alfresco dining. Friendly service. Affordable meal.
T G — Google review
My husband and I went at 9:45am for the 10:00am opening. By 10:15am, all the tables were full. The khao soi was so flavourful and delicious. I ended up ordering two bowls for breakfast. The bottled Thai tea was also great. The all-women staff at the restaurant were so lovely.
Aunima B — Google review
Came here because of top reviews for trying Khao Soi - lived up to expectations! Very tasty and perfect portion size for lunch. Very fast service too.
Jennie V — Google review
Beat Khao Soi, affordable prices with lovely service. Would definitely come back. 💯 Went here during the week, it was busy but no wait time as people come, eat and go.
Krystele R — Google review
One of the best khao soi in the North. Be sure to come in early as line can get really long. Menu has english translation; limited but perfect food offerings. Khao Soi Gai for the win!
Andrew A — Google review
Early morning if you are craving for a hot noodle soup, you may consider this place. They offer Thai curry noodles(their signature) either beef, pork or chicken feet. Less worry, their spiciness are quite mild. Not too hot overall. My personal preferences would be the beef and pork. Drink whilst the longan flavour is tasty. Hope this review might help you who read this. Cheers...

Noodle shop
Khao Soy Maesai is a must-try dish in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This Northern-style curry is known for its creamy and flavorful coconut milk base, filled with herbs and tender meat. Served with a mix of crispy and soft noodles, it's a local specialty that shouldn't be missed. You can find this popular dish at Khao Soy Mae Sai, where you can enjoy the traditional style of this famous noodle soup.
I went there for breakfast to avoid the lunch rush and it turned out to be a great choice. I ordered the Khao Soi with pork and a traditional Thai milk tea—both were excellent. The curry broth was rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of spice. The noodles had a perfect, firm texture, and the pork was tender and well-seasoned. Definitely worth a visit if you’re a fan of Northern Thai cuisine!
Polysemous — Google review
Khao Soi Maesai is, without a doubt, one of the essential culinary stops in Chiang Mai. Their version of the Northern Thai curry noodle soup is famously rich and perfectly balanced. The broth is thick, creamy with coconut milk, and boasts a wonderfully deep, complex curry flavor with a satisfying hint of spice. I highly recommend the Beef Khao Soi; the meat is incredibly tender, practically falling apart into the decadent soup. The contrast of the soft boiled noodles beneath the crispy nest of fried noodles on top is pure perfection. It's easy to see why this spot consistently earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand—it’s an authentic, unforgettable taste of Lanna cuisine. Go early to avoid the inevitable queue!
Vova K — Google review
Very good value of money. Strong flavors, penetrate well into the chicken thigh. Loved the pickled garnishes. Drinks are delightful. We’ve had roselle juice and Thai black coffee. We went there on a Tuesday. They open from 8 am and we arrived at 8:15. They shop is packed already but we didn’t have to wait as we got the last table. By the time we left, the line got quite long. Family run shop, it is quite heart warming to watch they work together!
Thanthar S — Google review
Words cannot describe how good the khao soi with chicken is. The chicken is so tender, it melts in your mouth and the Thai tea is so refreshing. We were a group of 4 and paid total of 505thb for lunch. Service is good! And food comes fast! Definitely worth the wait! I promise! I know it feels like forever waiting but I can assure you, the food is worth it.
Rajpal K — Google review
It's a popular spot with Michelin guide recommendation. A must visit when in Chiang Mai. The soup has a very rich coconut flavour and the noodles were a tad soft that was not to my liking. Other than that, the chicken was tender and soup had good flavour. Shop was in an alley, and easy to spot. Place was relatively clean and atmosphere not too bad for a morning.
Eugene L — Google review
I ordered takeout at 12:30 and only had to wait about five minutes. I noticed they have a standard workflow for preparing khao soi. the owner seemed a bit impatient while taking my order. As for the food, the mild khao soi soup was easy for foreigners to eat and overall it tasted good.
Caron C — Google review
Best Khao Soi we have had on this trip to Cnx! Michelin rated authentic, small/open kitchen serving tons of tourists and locals with the tastiest khao soi. We had to wait for only 10 mins on a weekday at lunch time. Their buzzer system for cue management is pretty efficient.
Rewant L — Google review
Long queue at 1pm, about 20min wait. The noodles here were overcooked so I’m not sure how consistent they are. The beef is definitely better than the chicken however chicken is still tender and fall off the bone. Broth here is a little creamier than usual, remember the onions and salted veg are sides and not really to be mixed in the soup, but you could. Add lime to not feel as greasy and more refreshing

When in Chiang Mai, one must not miss trying the renowned dish called Khao Soi. This popular curry-based noodle soup can be found throughout the city, with each restaurant offering its own unique twist on the classic recipe. Typically featuring a rich and complex broth, this dish is served with fresh egg noodles and various protein options such as chicken, beef, pork, meatballs, or even seafood.
The name of this stall doesn’t lie - we have come here twice so far and plan on returning. The beef Khao soi is unreal, as is the crispy pork. The broth is flavourful and aromatic, the meat is tender and overall it’s utterly delicious.
Katherine D — Google review
The name is no lie. Definitely the best Khao Soi in Chiang Mai (better than the Michelin place)!! The crispy pork was to die for we came back twice.
Kiran B — Google review
The restaurant Best Khao Soi in Chiang Mai truly lives up to its name. The Khao Soi here is the best I’ve ever had in Chiang Mai, especially the version with crispy pork. The flavors are perfectly balanced, and you can add as much of the pickled vegetables as you like. The price is also very fair, making it a great option for anyone wanting to try Khao Soi. Additionally, the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, which adds to the overall experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to enjoy authentic Khao Soi.
Keusen K — Google review
Owner is super nice welcoming! & the food is amazing. Ive been a few times now & its the best Khao Soi ive tried so far!
Ra’Janae L — Google review
So good! Local street food at its best — flavorful, authentic, and full of charm. The Nam Ngeaw (ขนมจีนน้ำเงี้ยว) is probably the best we’ve had so far, and the Khao Soi was delicious (my boyfriend loved it!). We’ve been visiting Chiang Mai for a few years now, and this is our second year eating here — always consistently good and super affordable. So glad we found this spot!
Bubie ( — Google review
Best Khao Soi Experience at Chiang Mai Gate! After a disappointing lunch earlier in the day, I was pleasantly surprised by the incredible Khao Soi I had for dinner along the outdoor food street at Chiang Mai Gate. The food was served piping hot and impressively fast, making it perfect for anyone craving a comforting meal. The Khao Soi itself was rich, flavourful, and perfectly spiced—a true testament to authentic Northern Thai cuisine. What truly elevated the experience was the availability of fresh onions, bean sprouts, and salted vegetables as standard side servings, all offered for free. These accompaniments complemented the dish beautifully, adding layers of texture and flavour. The lively outdoor setting added to the charm, creating an atmosphere that’s both vibrant and relaxing. If you're in Chiang Mai and looking for the perfect bowl of Khao Soi, this spot near Chiang Mai Gate is a must-visit!

We come here at least once a week, love the Khao Soi and the owner is so nice! Definitely would recommend!!

Best khao soi in chiang mai? No there are many better ones, but this one is still not bad and rather average. One good note is that you can add as much pickles, cabbage, onions in your bowl.

Thai restaurant
Kao Soy Nimman is a casual dining spot that specializes in a variety of noodle and soup dishes featuring chicken, beef, and seafood. It offers both indoor and outdoor seating options, with the indoor area being air-conditioned. While it's famous for its khao soi, the restaurant also serves an array of Northern Thai specialties. Customers appreciate the excellent broth and the diverse protein options available for their soups.
The best Kao Soy I’ve ever had. The spiciness of the soup was perfectly balanced—neither overpowering nor too mild. Its consistency struck the right note as well, being neither too thick nor too watery. The two types of noodles, one firm and the other soft, added depth and variety to each bite. Midway through, the topping of lemon slices, onions, and pickled vegetables refreshed the flavor, making the bowl enjoyable from start to finish. Although about ten people were waiting outside, our turn came in just around 20 minutes.
Masaaki S — Google review
The KaoSoi (Chiang Mai curry-like noodle ) here is one notch higher and premium quality and more varieties with other stir fried dishes which are equally good. It’s more like a restaurant rather than a noodle bistro. The food are pretty good and yummy, I gave it almost 10pts . A bit on a touristy and pricey side but is worth it. Nicely decorated, clean and staffs able to speak English.
Adeline N — Google review
Nice experience with an even better taste. Some seem to disagree but I couldn't see why. Press the button on your table and the staff is there within seconds to help you with anything you'd need. The chicken sate came with one of the best sauce I have ever tasted. The pork egg rolls were yummy and the Kao Soy was spicy and delicious. The drinks are good too, definitely worth a try!
Mr M — Google review
Tried the Khao Soi Chicken and the Chicken Satay Peanut Sauce Noodle both were amazing. The Khao Soi had rich standard coconut curry broth, crispy noodles on top, and super tender chicken. The balance of spice, creaminess, and a squeeze of lime was just perfect. The Satay Peanut Noodles were such a nice surprise!!!! creamy, nutty, slightly sweet, with grilled chicken that had that smoky flavor 9/10. A great fusion of comfort food and Thai street style. Nice cozy spot with warm Chiang Mai vibes. Perfect for anyone who loves flavorful northern Thai food. Highly recommend adding this place to your food list when you’re in town! Food looks as good as it tastes check the photos that I took here.

It's a very famous restaurant in the area, known for the dish that gives the place its name. Because of its fame, it's almost always crowded, so it's common to find a small queue at the entrance.Luckily, the line moved quickly, and we didn't wait long to be seated. The service was good and attentive. We tried the famous Khao Soi: it was tasty, and the ingredients seemed high-quality, but honestly, it wasn't excellent. Given the restaurant's reputation, I was expecting a bit more. It's good, but not the best I've had. They accept card payments.
Luana B — Google review
This isn't my first time here at Kao Soy Nimman but it is my first time dropping the review. I've tried Kao soy from so many places around Chiang Mai, but honestly, Kao Soy Nimman is the best one yet. I get why it’s so famous...and now I 100% agree with all the hype 👍 The broth is rich, creamy, not too thick or liquidly and it's full of flavor, the noodles are perfectly cooked, and that crispy topping adds the perfect crunch. Everything just comes together so well. **Don't underestimate their chilli** Even though it’s already super popular with both locals and tourists, it really deserves the extra fame. If you’re in Chiang Mai and want to taste the best Kao Soy OR Khao Soi, this is the spot. Totally recommend! 👍
Andrew V — Google review
I had Oder Chicken Satay,Ong Pu(Crab) , Beef KHAO Soi , Iced Dessert . Actually, I think the KHAO SoI weren't as good as I expected; everyone has their own preferences. I am more like to eat that noodle I’m tried at Chiang Rai. KHAO Soi 4 Stars Iced Dessert 5 Stars!!!! Chicken Satay 3 Stars Ong Pu 1 Stars (This is not something I would eat.) Staff Service Good & Helpful
Eric S — Google review
Had to try Khao Soi Nimman because our driver recommended it—and it’s super close to our hotel! If you come to Northern Thailand and don’t try Khao Soi, it’s like you didn’t really make it here. We went for chicken Khao Soi, braised beef Khao Soi, stir-fried pumpkin leaves with oyster sauce, crispy ruby dessert in coconut milk, and fresh coconut water. Absolute must-try!

Restaurant
Khao Soi Lung Prakit Kad Kom, also known as Khao Soi Lung Prakit, has gained attention for its delicious Khao Soi dish. This Chiang Mai restaurant was recommended on a popular food show and has been praised by visitors for its flavorful and aromatic Khao Soi soup with a hint of spice. The beef Khao Soi is particularly noteworthy and has left many patrons impressed with its taste.
One of the best Khao soi noodle shop in Chiang mai area. It’s old and not so clean shop but has great taste of Khao soi all over the Chiang mai. This shop is very famous that no need to explain furthermore. Just visit this restaurant and trying should be enough.
Min-Seok O — Google review
Khao Soi Lung Prakit, is one of the most popular khao soi restaurant in Chiang Mai. The place has failed to live up to its hype for me though. Here's 2 main reason why the place gets a solid 2/5 stars: 1. Although Uncle Prakit was present there. But perhaps due to his old age, not sure whether its his son or his niece does all the cookery and controls all the ingredients. He just sits inside..excluded from the cookery scene. Apparently, for my personal opinion. The gentleman is quite rude in speaking to customer. One word answer. A bit of a ganster style in term of interacting. Like he couldnt careless is you gonna dine or not, coz theres gonna be tremendous of people flooded to his store daily anyhow. 2. Khao Soi taste itself is quite bland. As a local, I experience a better Khao Soi here. Nothing spectacular that makes me 'wow" ...from the noodle itself to the broth. The price is still friendly. Be prepare to wait in long queues if you came after 9.45am. Food hygiene is also another considerable factor. The restaurant is vintage itself. Sadly, ruined interm of "hospitality" and "careness".
Donny B — Google review
One of the best Khao Soi in Chiang Mai. The broth is rich and balanced, the spiciness is perfect 🌶️, the beef is tender, and portions are generous . Simple authentic atmosphere, great prices. No wonder it’s a true legend among locals and tourists ✨

Must try spots if you want to experience authenticity northern Thai flavor. The shop is simple and local, but the taste is unforgettable. The Khao soi here has rich, creamy curry broth with the perfect balance of spice and coconut milk.
Marcus N — Google review
This Khao Soi shop is one of the famous spots in Chiang Mai and I can see why. The khao soi here is rich, creamy, and really flavorful. The beef is tender and the crispy noodles on top make it even better. The place is small and simple but feels authentic and welcoming, with lots of photos on the walls. For me, the taste was really good but a bit on the spicy side. I managed to finish the whole bowl but my stomach felt hot the rest of the day. Still, I loved it and think it’s worth trying if you want a true local khao soi experience in Chiang Mai.
Earn S — Google review
Best Khao Soi!! A must try. As featured on “Somebody Feed Phil”. Had the beef and it was so tender. Good spice and amazing flavor. Ask for the air conditioner room with the washrooms. It is $10 TBH a person but worth it!
Sophie N — Google review
I took 2 orders of beef and 1 order of Chicken Khao Soi. It is so delicious but rather spicy ones. I can tell coz I was choking after take it. I think that's because of fried dried chilli in the curry paste....lol I recommend the best one is beef Khao Soi.
Nisawan S — Google review
Food was good but it took one hour for us to sit down and eat. Half hour queueing outside the restaurant after filling in their little paper with our order. Once we sat down, they somehow lost our order and we sat around for 15 mins watching people who came in after us get their food first. A server finally noticed and took our order again and it took 10 mins for our food to come finally. Not sure if the food was worth the one hour wait.

Khao Soi is a trendy and slightly upscale restaurant in Chiang Mai that has gained popularity for its Japanese-inspired take on the traditional Thai dish. The owners, originally from Thailand, have elevated the classic khao soi by using high-quality ingredients and presenting it impeccably. Their braised beef bowls are a hit, and they also offer a non-traditional fried khao soi without broth.
Aoffy was so lovely, the food was incredible and such a beautiful setting. I’ll definitely come back here again. The dumplings were so juicy ans the Khao soi with thai sausage was amazing!!
Demi M — Google review
This seemed like a fusion take on khao soi, and overall it was great. The khao soi was very spicy and cover the taste of shrimp and scallops. but the staff were extremely caring when he noticed I was sweating and can’t handle with the spicy, he proactively offered extra coconut milk and pork broth to mellow the soup. However, the yogurt dessert’s texture was too hard and not creamy enough. If you can handle the spicy soup, you might want to skip dessert at a khao soi restaurant 😆
Caron C — Google review
good reviews don’t even do justice for how good Khao-So-I is. The food is excellent, the environment is lively and lovely. The restaurant is so busy but staff are so attentive!! Staff make excellent recommendation of dishes without upselling their more expensive dishes or anything. We’ve had other Khao Soi, including Michelin guided shops but this is the best one for me and my husband. This may not be your everyday Khao Soi. We are tourists here and here to enjoy & experience things !! Worth every penny.
Thanthar S — Google review
Such a lovely and fun spot to enjoy the northern dish of Thailand but Japanese style. Khao-So-I village is a cute spot that you would not expect from the street view. You check in when you first walk up then the host will guide you down this cute path that is styled like a Japanese street, there is actually a little coffee house and tea/dessert house on the property in addition to the restaurant wihich has two seating areas. I got the soup style Khao Soi with ribs and braised pork and it was fantastic! I also had the ponzu deser which was similar to a light pudding. Would absolutely recommend this spot!
Alexandra P — Google review
A premium Khao Soi restaurant where the flavor is quite balanced, making it suitable for tourists to try. Honestly, the taste is pretty good, but personally, I prefer more local style places. That’s just my personal preference, so it wouldn’t be fair to judge the restaurant based on that. I recommend trying it yourself. Overall, it’s a good place definitely worth a visit if you’ve never had Khao Soi before.
Boom J — Google review
We came to Khao-Sō-i to try the typical and traditional dish of Chiang Mai. I ate the Khao-soi with Braised Beef. Here you can choose to have your dish with spicy curry broth (traditional version), or you to have stir-fried noodles without broth and therefore not spicy. Before choosing, the waitress was very kind as she brought me a small bowl with a taste of the broth, so I could taste and understand how spicy it was. In the end, I chose to have it in soup format with broth and diluted it with coconut milk to tone down the spiciness. We ate very well, it’s a must-try dish to try if you are in Chiang Mai.
Silvia F — Google review
I visited in the morning when it wasn't busy, and the staff were friendly, providing me with recommendations. It's a must-visit if you're in Chiang Mai; the food and atmosphere are great, making it feel like I was in Japan. The food was incredible, delicious, and authentically Northern Thai with a hint of Japanese fusion.

Restaurant
Khao Soi Samerjai is a well-established local-style restaurant located in the Mueang District near the Ping Riverbank. They have been serving their renowned khao soi for over 30 years, perfecting the dish with a dark brown sauce that has depth and a nice heat, complemented by chopped coriander for added flavor and texture. The curry broth is intensely flavorful with a hint of spice and coconut milk for creaminess, served with succulent bone-in chicken.
In my opinion this Khao Soi spot is by far the most authentic out of all Khao Soi spots in all of Chiang Mai!! Broth is rich and flavorful and made with quality ingredients. Price is very affordable for the amount of food given. Please don’t fall for all these other “wanna be” foreign flavor (weak and watered down). This place also offers other noodle dish and appetizers other than Khao Soi! Their Pork Satay is also delicious, the sauce is flavorful with slight spice. The fried wontons and Nam Prik Num is also delicious with pork rinds!! This spot is a must and is one of our frequent spots here in Chiang Mai!! You will not be disappointed!!

One of the most authentic and it’s actually where local eats. Good choice for Khao-soi in Chiang Mai. The service is very fast and straightforward.

Great food at increíble price. No nonsense place, which looks average and lacking anything special, but they deliver excellent food consistently. I recommend the jackfruit paste (than khanun) and the rice mixed pork in banana leaf (kao jeaw).
Roberto G — Google review
A very local Khao Soi restaurant. We heard it mainly caters to tourists. We ordered two pork Khao Soi; the curry flavor was a bit spicy and a bit sweet, but the portions were small. Additionally, we ordered their fish cakes, which were very delicious. You could really taste the fish, and my husband said they were better than those at Nara in Bangkok. The spicy sausage was just average. The restaurant seemed to have a lot of staff, but it looked like only one or two were serving foreign tourists. They had a QR code payment option, but we tried several times and it didn’t work, so we had to pay with cash.
Savan — Google review
Delicious northern food and not expensive. Beef Kao soi is spicy 🥵 for me, pork satay is tender. Rice noodles with red curry fish is ok, not spicy.
Angi N — Google review
Just by entering the place you would find mini stalls which has a display of each and every dishes which will tingle your appetite if you are pork lover especially. Tried their Pork Satay which was served with salad and fresh peanut sauce is one among the best I ever tasted. Khao soi with Chicken had that knock out punch and a kick with its spiciness. The curry and noodles tasted amazing will definitely make you sweat a lot be prepared but you can't stop eating even if your mouth burns. The accompaniments on the table is also interesting with fresh sauce.. Food was cheap as well. Local thai restaurant atmosphere. Must try place.
Manoj S — Google review
My favorite original Khao Soi yellow curry noodle. The soup here is creamy and thick. Add a little chili oil to complete the recipe to deliciousness. The place also sells other famous northern cuisine dishes like sausages and Larb minced pork salad. Their satays are not bad. Good parking space at a temple nearby.
Ben C — Google review
A local khao soi place with a few other local delicacies offered. The taste was authentic and pretty good. Unfortunately we came early so there was only chicken khao soi offered. They used drumettes which was not that filling. The pork satay was good. Good for a quick bite. Parking availalble at a local temple. Donations are recommended.

Thai restaurant
Huen Phen is a renowned restaurant in the Old City of Chiang Mai, offering authentic northern Thai cuisine. With a comprehensive English-language menu, it features classic dishes such as sai hua, nam phrik ong, and gaeng hanglay. The family-run establishment has two locations: a long-standing restaurant on Ratchamanka Road and a new setting at Baan Huen Phen Boutique Hotel.
The restaurant is actually divided in 2. One side is open during the day and looks like a traditional place, while the other part is only open for dinner and is a very surprising place. In both case the cuisine is good (we really enjoyed their sai ua), in quantity, and for a very reasonable price. We went to both sides, but our preference goes to the night part and all the surrounding artifacts. You are dining in a museum, but apparently some artifacts can be purchased. We elected to dine outside of the AC room but did not suffer from heat at all.
Fab F — Google review
Seriously good food but countered by the really rubbish service. The table next to us was in a hurry and had only just finished getting their order when we were leaving. We arrived after them! Food is great though. Very tasty and the Burmese curry very very moreish
Jerry S — Google review
Steeped in atmosphere, delicious food at quite reasonable prices, adequate service, and a very convenient location half-way along Ratchamanka Road in the Old City. I suggest booking over walk-in, and anticipate a leisurely evening. I was also curious as to why they had an all-male serving staff team, which never helps. In spite of the service issues, I recommend this restaurant.

Dinner was good! My first Khao Soi so far. I went on a Sunday around 6.30pm, the restaurant wasn’t busy. The price was ok too. I would come back!

Amazing authentic Northern Thai food doesn't get much better than this. Khao soi is fantastic and well worth checking out Highly recommend and don't leave chiang mai without visiting here.

It’s amazing! Authentic and delicious Tai food. You must go. 10/10 The restaurant is like a museum. Wonderful experience.

We’ve been coming here for several years — every trip, since it’s close to our hotel in the Old Town area. It’s a quieter spot, and the food is always good and consistent! We eat here several times each trip, sometimes even twice a day — it really feels like eating at home. To be honest, the Nam Ngeaw and Khao Soi aren’t our favorites compared to other places we’ve tried, but everything else — especially the Chiang Mai dishes like Naam Pu with vegetables and Hungle curry — is so delicious and very affordable. We truly love it here!
Bubie ( — Google review
The food in Thailand and Chiang Mai has been wonderful! It is tasty, fresh, and made with love and care and spice. If you want that... do not come here!!! None of that will be had... For those visiting, we have but a limited amount of time and food to eat while we are here. If you love food and flavors, this is not your place. If you like semi-warm food that tastes like it was boiled to death, and then all the worlds of flavor forgot? Then welcome to your favorite place! The chicken northern thai curry was the definition of bland(despite it having🌶🌶 next to it...). The overcooking of the greenbeans in it did not make the fibers in them tender... so ended up spitting out a massive pile of plant fiber that should have been someone else's job to do. Not the customer with their mouth at the table. The ribs were just hacked with a clever, shattered bones and all, and tossed into the fryer. The chili sauce to dip them was fairly ok though. Too bad there was only a teaspoon of it... not nearly enough for the dish or to save the rest of the food from the table. The overall experience left much(i.e., ALL) to be desired. It was an entire sad waste of an eating experience. Also the most expensive we have had so far. 20฿ for some pork noodles is infinity better and more satisfying. Go find that instead. Your taste buds will thank you. Unless you don't have any, don't care and/or hate them... come to Huen Phen...

Restaurant
Khao Soi Lamduan Fa Ham is a long-standing eatery that has been serving up the iconic dish for over 75 years. While it shares similarities with Khao Soi Samer Jai, there are noticeable differences in the texture and flavor of the dish. The beef khao soi is particularly popular, featuring tender drumstick meat cooked to perfection. The curry is described as thick, creamy, and mildly spicy.
Just across the street of our fine hotel (with also a Michelin recommendation) we found this traditional Khao Soi restaurant. We were treated so nicely and with a minimum of English we got what was suggested: chicken Khao Soi with fish balls that were also excellent! It is also a shop, but we took a table and ate there. The ambiance is of a real popular Thai restaurant for the Thai themselves, so nothing too fancy or pretentious! We loved it and we recommend the Thai ice tea (indeed with ice, but everything went great).
Bob P — Google review
Finally have a chance to try Khao Soi in Chiang Mai. We were not disappointed. The soup base was full of flavor and i can't stop drinking it. The noodle was chewy and tasty. I end up having 2 bowls, one chicken and the other was fish. Price was cheap as. Must come for a visit.
Wilko J — Google review
😋 Khao soi at its very best! This place has been refining and serving authentic Chiang Mai khao soi for nearly a century 💯 😳! They won Michelin 2022, 2021, 2020. 👏 Must try it. The pork satay is good too. Freshly made and hot. I had 2 bowls of khao Soi - it’s that good. 😁 Parking is bit of a challenge, but you can find some street parking.
Pratyush P — Google review
Good food and most importantly: they do not add sugar to the Khao Soi (unlike many other restaurants do today)! However, the service could be improved, and the place lacks distinctive value.
Gonzague J — Google review
Recommended by a local, this khao soi restaurant has been a neighborhood fixture for 70-80 years. This place is a great find with nice khao soi at an excellent price. The kitchen was very fast and service was excellent. We had the khao soi with chicken -- the broth was light, not too spicy (chili paste is available along with the usual Khao soi trimmings). My son had chicken satay and chicken wings. This restaurant really reminds me of old Thai neighborhood restaurants, it's great to see they're still around in the city. Highly recommend trying khao soi if visiting Chiang Mai - this is a solid place to visit.

Authentic khao soi…, taste different from the concentrated broth. Good taste 😋 establishes in 1943.

a simple place that serves khao soi curry (mainly but has few other dishes) for over 80 years (with a couple of michelin gourmand as accolades). you simply cannot find a better curry dish anywhere else in the world. just order the northern beef (chicken) curry noodle & enjoy until the last drop (or spoon) it's that good.

In Chiang Mai, the debate over where to find the best khao soi is ongoing, with numerous restaurants serving this signature dish of Northern Thailand. Khao Soi Mae Manee, located north of the Old City, offers a unique take on the traditional noodle dish. With over 50 years in business, this humble diner provides variations such as beef, chicken, fish, and even offal dishes for the adventurous.
Looking for the best Khao Soi in Chiang Mai, get a Grab and head to Khao Soi Mae Manee. Rich broth , tender fall off the bone chicken or beef. A friendly smile and a relaxed local shop that’s been operating for over 25yrs.
The G — Google review
Found out about this Khao Soi place thanks to Mark Wiens. It's off the beaten path and situated quite far away from the city centre in a non-descript neighbourhood but definitely worth the trip. I actually really like the ambience of the place - it may be uncomfortable for some (being in the backyard of what seems to be a private dwelling without air-conditioning) but it adds to the rustic and authentic charm of the place. The Khao Soi was extremely tasty and the lady who served me was really nice and friendly. She could immediately tell that it was my first time trying Khao Soi and taught me what to add to the bowl; the resulting mix was a hearty delicious bowl of noodles in a thick beefy broth with a similar consistency to goulash. Washed it down with some refreshing homemade organic honey coffee. A more unique variant of the typical khao soi dish and definitely a must-try!
DDT — Google review
First time I’m trying Khao Soi as a tourist and our tour guide recommends this shop which won Michelin stars 5 years in a row! The boss was so kind to explain to me clearly how best to eat with the condiments (shallots and pickles separate from the soup so as not to affect the spiciness, and add dark sweet sauce and chilli to the noodles). The fried noodles were crispy and the chicken drumstick and pork intestines so tender! Noodles were a dente and perfectly cooked. Thumbs up!
To C — Google review
Tucked away in a residential district, and one could miss KSMM quite easily, it's a good 20 mins drive from Chiang Mai Old Town via Grab this morning. 😬 The Khao Soi at KSMM is quite different from the other popular ones that we had tried in Chiang Mai. KSMM's Khao Soi is more intense---with stark difference in the curry spices used (as such, the flavour profile, and the curry gravy/broth is thicker), being less sweet and the noodles are thicker and al dente. Unlike other Khao Soi luminaries who use store-bought ready-made pickled mustard greens, KSMM's pickled mustard greens seem to be further marinated with some thing(s) we could not identify. Instead of the more commonly-offered red onion slices, KSMM offers sliced baby shallots. KSMM's side chilli paste is also a lot spicier and has a different taste profile when compared to others. So, be careful if you decide to do a Mark Wiens... 😂 Overall, KSMM held its own, and its Khao Soi is still a great amongst the hundreds of the quintessential native offered in Chiang Mai---that some say is the best in Chiang Mai, or the whole of Thailand. 😉
Chesper-Joghne P — Google review
Hidden gem of original Kao Soi. Flavor and aroma is unique, not too sweet as in other restaurants. The pork ribs version is a must-try.
Manop ( — Google review
So delicious! Both Khao Soi and Nam Ngiao are must-tries. The Khao Soi beef is rich, the soup has a fragrant charcoal aroma, and the Nam Ngiao is traditional Chiang Mai cuisine. The soup is not thick, but rather clear, and the flavor is rich and pleasant. The shop may be old and in an alley, but it is not difficult to discover. There is some parking space. The auntie is really friendly and pleasant.

Aum Vegetarian Restaurant is a popular and well-established eatery in Chiang Mai, Thailand, known for its homey ambiance and delicious vegetarian Thai dishes. The restaurant offers a mix of local Thai street food and Western cuisine without any meat. While not entirely authentic, the dishes are spiced-to-order with some Indian flavors incorporated. Aum stands out for offering tempeh, which is rare in the vegan scene of Chiang Mai.
Hidden gem! This vegetarian restaurant is definitely worth visiting. The food was delicious, and the staff were friendly. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful. I highly recommend the vegetarian massaman curry, it was full of flavor!

Have been here twice during my time in chiang mai and I wished I found it earlier. Khao soi and Thai iced tea ARE TO DIE FOR!! Please come visit. I’ve eaten non vege khao soi and think this is the best I’ve had!! Tom yum is also FAB! Sitting upstairs is a calm oasis! It’s wonderful 🫶

Amazing restaurant, accommodated us even though we arrived close to closing time. Food was some of the best we have eaten in Thailand, the atmosphere of restaurant added to an extremely enjoyable and relaxing eating experience. Would especially recommend the deep fried pumpkin, kao soi and massaman curry. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a great range of freshly made vegetarian Thai food.

We’ve came twice since everything we tasted during our first visit was soo good. All dishes are freshly made on order and extremely flavourful. This was hands down the best vegan food we’ve had in chiang mai. The service is friendly and it’s nice to sit there. The restaurant is nicely decorated. I don’t remember if they have chairs and tables because we sat on the floor (was nice).

Seems like a popular place. Reasonable prices and really nice to be able to get the Betel leaf wraps. The green curry fried rice was more of a saucey risotto and the tea leaf salad was not too great. Pineapple fried rice was nice. Having a glass door for the toilet with only a thin piece of material (that didn't even cover the whole area) as a curtain between it and the restaurant was a huuuuge issue for me. Frosted glass is still see-through!

First went to Aum in 2016, glad to be back after all these years, at their current location which is quieter but still accessible. Their vegetarian khao soi is still nice like I remembered it - they also have a vegan khao soi. I recommend their mieng kham and mint lassi. The avocado ice cream was a bit lacking in flavor.

Free Bird Cafe is a vibrant and socially conscious eatery located in Chiang Mai. Since its establishment in 2009, the cafe has been dedicated to supporting language and art learning centers for refugees from Burma at the Thai Freedom House. The menu offers a unique fusion of Thai, western, and Burmese cuisine, all 100% vegan.
The Thai chickpea flour omelette is delicious 🤤 The thrift store is full of options (clothes, books, household items, etc.) Lots of seating options "inside" and out. Good, chill music and vibes. Yes, prices are a bit higher than elsewhere, but it's going to support living wages for staff as well as (displaced) people in need/refugees, etc. Hopefully they will accept card payments in the future, but for now it's cash or Thai bank transfer only to my knowledge.

Great cafe with a great mission. We shared a pennywort salad, which was very nice, and a fritter dish. I also liked the peanut butter chili noodles. My son enjoyed the vegan grilled cheese. Lots of people socializing during our visit and there is a mix of inside and outside seating. Small play area for kids and some games available. Good wifi. Nice place to grab a vegetarian meal. Would love to eat here again!

We visited in October 2025 as a couple. The place has good vegetarian, gluten-free, and non-spicy food options. The price is decent for the quality and quantity offered. The service can be improved as we have to order and pay at counter, but the ambience is charming. Its located on a main street, and so there is easy access to taxi and parking. There are also games to play in indoor sitting area and shop to buy near the cash counter. It is a romantic family-friendly and cat-friendly place to eat authentic Thai food.

We had a disappointing dinner there recently. We ordered the lentil soup, chickpea curry, a potato appetizer, a roti, and rice. The potato dish was not bad, and was the best value as the portion size was reasonable. Unfortunatly, the rest of the food was not good. We did not enjoy the flavors at all. We rated the food low because the portion size was very small, and the cost was much higher than what we pay for larger portions of better food elsewhere in Chiang Mai.

One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to! The food was incredible and catered to my and my wife’s dietary needs. The restaurant and food told a story so not only was the food delicious, but it was also a great leaning experience. The staff was so kind and took good care of us. We were so full after eating!! Great sized portions and so many yummy choices. We will definitely be back when we return to Chiang Mai!

I loved this cafe! The staff is super friendly and nice, the environment is very cozy and comfortable, and the food is delicious!! I totally recommend the Rainbow Pad Thai - so far, it's the best pad thai I've ever eaten. It's so good! I also recommend the Energy Burst (a smoothie made with mango, lime, banana, and pineapple!) - it's delicious and refreshing! Not only is the food good but also very beautiful! They really put an effort in delivering the best service! And they offer both breakfast and lunch options! The cafe also has a little book in each table where you can write and see what other people have written, creating a sense of community. And they also have a thrift shop where you can buy products and souvenirs! I got myself a straw cleaner. The cafe is also work-friendly. Their tables are large and are great to work on a laptop or take notes in a notebook. Even though not all tables have power outlets, it's fine because you can leave your computer charging where there's an outlet while you eat and appreciate the food! They also offer outdoor seating where you can lie down. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it seems very comfortable! I'll definitely check those seats when I come back! I had a great experience at this cafe, and it's one of my favorite cafes in Thailand. I would totally recommend visiting, trying their delicious food and drinks, and enjoying the cozy environment!

In a nutshell, the food is healthy and fabulous - And I am not a poster child of healthy food! The wait staff are friendly, helpful and efficient... and you will enjoy heaps of beautiful Burmese smiles from the moment you walk through the gate. The atmosphere is retro Thai/Burmese "Summer of Love" hippie... so get ready to relax and enjoy the complete Free Bird experience! And DO NOT FORGET to visit the "pre loved clothing" area inside the shop! I can't tell you how much of my favorite clothing and boots and shoes that are in my closet came from Free Bird! And if you want to clean out your own closet before you go, please do! The items sold/purchased there help keep the Burmese refugee lifeline Free Bird runs ongoing❤️💕! And lastly please note that during The Thai " high season" Free Bird also has an "Open 🎤🎙️ mic" on Friday night. Goodsouls Kitchen: most dishes contain onion & garlic, and the portions are really huge. The taste is quite average, but the smoothie bowls are delicious – refreshing and perfectly sweet. Staff were a bit distant. Portions are so big that I even saw two girls at the next table couldn’t finish half of their food 🥘. Better not to order too much to avoid waste. ☺️

Some of the best vegan food I’ve ever had in a restaurant—period! I ate there twice, and both times completely exceeded my expectations. The first meal was the vegan Philly Cheese Sandwich, made with mushrooms instead of meat and their incredible homemade cashew cheese. On my second visit, I tried their burger with potato wedges, and once again the cashew cheese blew me away… it’s honestly one of the best vegan cheeses I’ve ever tasted. The environment was welcoming, and refreshingly laid-back. I especially appreciated the thoughtful sign reminding people not to use laptops or tablets at the tables. It keeps the space focused on food, conversation, and community, which feels so important in 2025.

Became of my favourites vegetarian / vegan place very quickly! My partner eats non-veg generally but even he absolutely loved the food here. He really loved the beatroot patties. Several options from thai to non-thai. The staff is super sweet and very polite. The wait time wasn’t much so we could enjoy the meal. Yet another incentive was free water!

We are a regular here. My husband is forced to be vegan. He is becoming allergic to meat product. He still can tolerate Seafood though. I don’t like eating meat products. So we end up eating vegan 80% of the time and visit this restaurant 3-4 days a week. Some of the items are not good. Western dishes are mostly not okay. Well, it is a vegan restaurant. Desserts and the fruit bowls are generally good. I don’t like their chocolate products. I haven’t tried all their fruit bowl but all that I have tried are very good. Mushroom burger is good. I haven’t tried the steak. I will maybe tomorrow. Pad Thai and mushroom krapao are good. Kanomjean (vermicelli with curry or something) is good. Kaosoy is also very good. The serving size is pretty generous. Can even satisfy a big eater like me.

Great vegan food. Our daughter is vegetarian and loved the food (I shared beetroot burger and godfather pizza with her; both dishes were tasty & delicious. Rest of family had Philly steak burger and mushroom cheese burger. Our sin hadn't paid attention to the fact we entered vegan restaurant and hadn't realized he hadn't eaten nay meat burger, so just sign that tastes and flavours are spot on, also for nog-vegan foodies. Strongly recommended.

I ordered a Bagel sandwich which came with a side dill potato salad. It had avocado, onions, tomatoes and their own homemade cashew cheese spread and slice. The sandwich in itself was really flavourful made with fresh ingredients. The potato salad was easily one of the best ones I've had. Decent Americano. They also provide water without charge in a glass bottle to be eco friendly and sustainable. I would have loved to try other dishes but Chiang Mai is so vegan friendly and has so many other vegan restaurants that I didn't get a chance to visit this place again. But I would recommend this place to visit at least once. Fully vegan, good value.

Nestled in Chiang Mai's Old City, Rachamankha Boutique Hotel is a luxurious 5-star property offering an intimate experience with just 25 rooms and suites. The hotel's design reflects the traditional lime plaster style of Chiang Mai's temples, creating a modern yet authentic ambiance. Each room is uniquely decorated with antiques and features elements like silk drapes, teak day beds, and ornate lanterns.
I have been there to pick up my tourists so no comment on the room. The hotel is very calm and luxury in Lanna style. Staff is kind and provide a nice hospitality and service. Well located in the old city of Chiang Mai.

A quiet oasis in the heart of the old city, within walking distance of the famous Chiang Mai walking street on a Sunday evening. All is calm and hushed, and there’s an abundance of art and antiques scattered around the grounds. This extends to the rooms, with tall ceilings and interesting books on the desk to browse through. However, the air conditioning struggled to keep the room cool enough, and a good night’s sleep was further banished by nightly bites from mosquitoes in the room despite the hotel providing insect repellent. On closer inspection, there were gaps around the antique doors into the room so there was never any hope of keeping them out. It got to the point I was getting anxious about going to bed. There were also a lot of mosquitoes around the pool area. Service is polite and accommodating, although occasionally difficult to find around the pool area. Service in the restaurant was equally good. There’s a lot to like at Rachamankha, but the mosquito situation with the room would make me hesitate to return.

It is completely surrounded by forest, making it a quiet and relaxing place. Here, you can beautifully appreciate the subtle harmony of Thai Lanna culture and Chinese culture. The staff are all neatly dressed and provide excellent service. Its location within the Old Town makes it very convenient.

We have always loved Rachamankha, and still do. It’s a beautiful heritage hotel in the heart of Chiang Mai and it is a small hotel, which we love. The staff are fantastic and service is great. However, parts of the hotel and rooms feel a bit tired and in need of some attention and the pool area doesn’t seem to be as beautiful as it has been in the past. But we love this hotel!
Tommi R — Google review
This hotel is incredible! The grounds are stunning and the staff could not be nicer or more helpful. We also really enjoyed the beautiful hotel restaurant — there was lovely live music being played during dinner. Hoping I get to come back someday!

Brilliant location for the Chaing mai night market, very good swimming pool ,very good service, very good breakfast and even got a free drink at the bar. All in all a very pleasant stay, the rooms are designed the old fashioned way and are very comfortable, you get a bath tub for dip after a long day traveling.
Satwinder C — Google review
Rachamankha has always been one of my favorite hotels in Thailand, and hopefully, it will remain so in the future. However, after staying for four nights this time, I couldn’t help but notice that it’s in need of serious attention. While the property itself retains its beauty, the rooms feel tired and heavily used—you can see it in the worn floor tiles, marked walls, and overall faded appearance. The general feeling is unmistakable: please renovate me. The bathrooms, in particular, are borderline unacceptable, with grout and limestone buildup, discolored marble, and aging tile joints giving them a shabby look. The poolside area also appears neglected. The old pool tiles and their joints show visible discoloration and wear, making the space feel far from the relaxing retreat it should be. What stands out most is the contrast between these areas and the well-maintained spaces at the heart of the hotel, such as the restaurant and lobby, which still feel cared for and in good condition. Service at the poolside is somewhat complicated. There is no bar or even a basic selection of drinks available nearby, so whenever a guest orders something, the staff has to walk all the way back to the restaurant to fetch it. Naturally, this takes time and makes the experience less seamless than one would expect from a hotel of this standard. Another downside is that the hotel basically shuts down at 22:00. After this time, it is no longer possible to order anything—not even in the lounge area—leaving the place feeling empty and staffless. For a small, 25-room sanctuary in the middle of Chiang Mai’s old town, one would still expect basic access to a bar or at least a more convenient way to enjoy a drink in the evening. That being said, the staff is, in general, very polite, friendly, and forthcoming, doing their best to accommodate guests within the limitations of the current setup. Because of these negatives, I can only give Rachamankha a three-star rating this time. However, given that the owner is a well-known architect from Bangkok, one would hope he recognizes the need for a much-needed refresh. This hotel has always been a special place, and I truly hope it is restored to the high standard it once had so it can shine in its former glory once again. Rachamankha deserves it, and so do its guests.

Restaurant
Huen Muan Jai is a well-known cafe housed in a restored wooden villa with a charming garden. It's famous for serving authentic Northern Thai cuisine, offering traditional local fare like Sai Aua (Northern Thai Sausage) and Gang Hang Lay (Northern-Style Pork Curry). The restaurant is popular for its Or Dep Muang, an appetizer platter featuring crispy baked pork, green chili dip, fried pork, Chiang Mai sausage, Gang Hang Lay, and assorted veggies.
This restaurant, right in the heart of Chiang Mai, offers absolutely amazing food. The interior is beautifully designed, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The menu is inspired by the northern region of Thailand, and everything we tried was outstanding. We had several dishes, probably ten or more, and they were all delicious. I highly recommend the mixed platters, where you can try a variety of different items. The service is top-notch – the staff is incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful, and they speak excellent English. I highly recommend visiting this place for anyone looking for great food in a beautiful setting. From the moment you walk in, it’s clear that this place is special!”

Had high hopes and most of them were met! The vibes were fantastic and very serene. The service was quick and pleasant, and we only waited for about 25 minutes on a busy Saturday. :) Here is a list of what we had and our ratings: * Khao Soi (Northern Thai Curry Noodle Soup): 5/5 - A must-try! For me, only the version at Kin Khao in SF has been better. * Northern Platter: A must to start out strong! (Below are my Favorites) - Gaeng Hang Lay (Northern Thai Pork Belly Curry): 5/5– Reminded me of my father’s mutton preparation. - Nam Prik Ong (Thai Pork and Tomato Chili Dip): 4/5 - Sai Oua (Northern Thai Sausage): 4/5 * Khua Pak Chiang-da Sai Khai (Stir-fried Gymnema Vegetable with Egg): 4/5 - Worth a try. * Gaeng Khae Pla Duk (Spicy Vegetable Curry with Catfish): 2/5 - Sorry, I didn’t like this at all. We thought it was mostly flavorless and overwhelmingly fishy in taste. This was a great introduction to the world of Northern Thai food. Definitely recommend! 🙏

Huen Muan Jai is one of the best places in Chiang Mai to experience truly authentic Northern Thai food. Their Sai Ua (Northern Thai sausage) is incredibly flavorful, perfectly spiced, and tastes so fresh. The fried pork belly is super crispy on the outside and tender inside — a must-try! The atmosphere feels local and cozy, making the meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to taste real Northern Thai flavors. 👍
Phyo P — Google review
Huen Muan Jai is the real deal when it comes to authentic Northern Thai (Lanna) cuisine. The flavors are spot on—rich, balanced, and truly representative of Chiang Mai’s local food culture. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality and generous portions. The menu has plenty of variety, so it’s a great place to try different Northern specialties all in one spot. Atmosphere is cozy and local-style—seating can feel a little small and tight, but that’s part of the true local eatery. Service is friendly and efficient. Overall, a must-visit if you want to experience Chiang Mai food the way locals enjoy it. Delicious, affordable, and authentic.

Delicious food that tastes just like home-cooked meals from mom’s kitchen! Authentic Northern Thai flavors — rich, comforting, and satisfying. The restaurant is spacious and welcoming, with reasonable prices. It can get a bit busy, so you might need to wait for a table, but it’s definitely worth it for the great food and local taste! No wonder they’ve been awarded a Michelin Star for five consecutive years!
S L — Google review
This restaurant offers a fantastic, high-quality Northern Thai food experience. It clearly has a stellar reputation, as it is incredibly popular with both local people and domestic Thai travelers. I have been invited here twice by Thai friends from Bangkok, and both visits confirmed its excellence. Be aware that no reservations are permitted, and you should expect to wait around 30 minutes for a table, but the amazing food makes the delay completely worth the wait. If you're looking for real, traditional cuisine in a great setting, this is definitely a must-try spot!

Outstanding North Thai cuisine restaurant in Chiang Mai. The service was attentive and kids friendly and the food was excellent, recommended to try the curry pork with sticky rice. What a joy and a discovery. I can only recommend it.

Had a late lunch here with my wife and everything was fantastic. We ordered the crispy pork belly, the appetizer platter, and the chicken khao soi. The appetizer platter was our favorite and came with a great mix of flavors. Portions were big — we definitely ordered more than we could finish and left super full. Service was very fast and the total was only about 500 baht for everything. Great spot for Northern Thai food in Chiang Mai, highly recommend!

Khao Soi Lamduan is a popular spot located near Chiang Mai's largest mosque, offering a diverse array of dishes and ingredients inspired by the Muslim world. The weekly market features vendors selling samosas, goat meat, air-dried pork, pickled vegetables, seasoned rice dishes, sweets, unique produce, and delicious noodle dishes.
Our waiter was super friendly and quite funny! I liked him a lot; he gave great recommendations for what to get and was very personable and smiley. The food was good value (50-70 THB, less than $2 for an entree) and delicious. We all got Khao Soi; we tried chicken, beef, and pork ball, and the beef Khao Soi was my favourite. We also got drinks and tried their ginseng lemon tea, butterfly pea tea, and kiwi smoothie. The butterfly pea tea was my favourite and is also quite beautiful with a naturally coloured purple hue. This place was awesome, definitely recommend!

To begin with, the owner is very friendly. He helps you with food recommendations, explaining their menu. The food is truly northern, the kao soi here is excellent! The orange juice is fresh and not too sweet. Would totally recommend this place to get lunch.

If you’re not a fan of spicy food but still want to enjoy authentic Northern Thai flavors, this is the perfect spot! The Khao Soi here is rich, creamy, and very well-balanced; not too spicy, just full of flavor. The restaurant is very spacious with plenty of tables, so you rarely have to wait in line. Parking is super convenient with lots of space. The service is impressively fast; I placed our order and the food was served in under 5 minutes! You’ll see a lot of tourists here, especially from tour vans. It’s clearly a popular stop for travel groups, and for good reason. Highly recommended! Dr. Niwech

My go-to khao soi place in Chiang Mai! I recommend the khao soi gai or khao soi nua (chicken khao soi or beef khao soi), the beef one is spicier, which I enjoy, but my husband likes the less spicy chicken one. The som-tan (papaya salad) and satay with peanut sauce are a hit as well.

This is the second place I've had breakfast at since arriving in Chiang Mai, fully recommended for the people who love noodles, healthy breakfast. One of the best is Khao Soi Kai and Khao Nur Jean Num Ngue, finger root juice is good tho but not for the people who hate herb taste. You guys will love this place even with its design and decoration.

One of the hole in the wall service in a resident. Owner is very friendly and helpful. He would recommend dishes if it is needed. They are popular for their beef khai soi! Tried both chicken and beef. The beef definitely has a more deep taste to it. Owner recommended chicken wings and satay. Satay definitely is worth it, lean chicken meat but not dry. Shop has limited menu so don’t expect restaurant level service.

Khao Soi Lumduan In Thailand, khao soi is a local specialty of Chiang Mai. We had their signature dish “khao soi” with chicken and beef. Great food. Excellent. Basically it’s yellow curry. We also had the papaya which was Laos style. Also good and spicy. Don’t leave without trying “khao soi”. You’ll never get this back in the USA. This place was ranked in the top 1# for serving “khao soi”. This place basically started it all. The owner started making “khao soi” over 70 years ago. This dish is normal eaten in Laos and northern Thailand. This is not a hole in the wall. This is an excellent restaurant that serves “khao soi” and does it well. Top marks. Take it from me, it’s good! Highly recommended
Kalvin H — Google review
Most of famous and popular khao soi places in Chiang Mai are very local ones, but this one is actually nice and it looks and feels like a nice restaurant. I tried their pork and chicken mix Khao soi and it had a good amount of meat in it and were very tender and great. They also have some of other typical Thai dishes, so you can come in a group and try different things and share. The space is fairly large, nice, and clean.

Located in the Old City, The Chef may not be widely recognized, but it holds a special place for those seeking delicious local Thai cuisine. Despite its unassuming appearance, this restaurant offers exceptional dishes such as red curry, coconut milk soup served in a coconut shell, papaya salad with fried squid, and fresh vegetables sautéed in oyster sauce. While the service might be slow during busy times, the charming ambiance and quality food make it worth the visit.
Not to be confused with the lower rated "Chef Tao’s Thai Cuisine" despite proximity. The Chief is a busy restaurant with good food. I highly recommend the crab curry (there is a version which they debone for you), and the fry rice was the best I've had in Chiang Mai so far. Their fry chicken is also quite juicy and crisp. Would return. There is also a temple close by for a cool afternoon walk nearby.

Nice location, nice service, food is good. We have already eaten better pad thais and green curries in Thailand, that is why we can't give away 5 stars. All of our meals tasted good but also less exciting than we are used to.

The Chef by Chef Tai in Chiang Mai is a convenient spot for flavorful Thai dishes with a modern twist. I had the seafood fried rice — perfectly balanced and packed with fresh flavors. We had a wonderful lunch at The Chef, where the food, service, and ambiance exceeded our expectations. We ordered Thai tea, butterfly pea lemonade, fried noodles with seafood and broccoli, and fried noodles with pork and broccoli. The flavors were vibrant, with the noodles perfectly cooked and the seafood fresh. The staff was friendly and efficient, ensuring we didn't have to wait long for our meal. The restaurant was clean and had a welcoming atmosphere, making it an enjoyable place to dine. Best of all, the entire lunch for two came to only $10—a great value for the quality and experience.

Customers have enjoyed a variety of items such as fruit salad, smoothie bowls, ginger lime turmeric shots, and muesli fruit bowls.
What can I say about Sunshine and her smoothie bowl shop, The Alleyway in Chiang Mai Thailand. Sunshine is so charismatic. she is a character she has the personality, and she has to love for what she does. She's working even when she's at home because she just wants to improve the experience for the customer. I sat there and talked with her for at least 35 minutes. Her smoothie bowls are just like her. Refreshing, colorful, and full of personality. They both will put a smile on your face. She is a true ambassador and one of a kind business owner. You can see the passion she has. There is plenty of shaded parking for your scooter and to sit with a group. She has free wifi and a bathroom in the rear of the building. Don't past this place, buy. Also, the prices she has against those in the area are on point. 👌

Came here for a last breakfast with my husband & ordered the following: - fruit salad (without the pineapple & banana) - smoothie bowl (‘the red’ something was the name from memory) the food was exactly what we were after - just something fresh & reasonably priced. Will absolutely be coming here again - only thing is I wish it opened earlier so you could eat before getting a workout in for the day! Pics added - as you can see, the fruit salad bowl was a decent size & came with dragon fruit, papaya, mango & watermelon 🤤

Kuakai Nimman is a popular and unpretentious restaurant in Chiang Mai known for its specialty noodle dishes and buzzing atmosphere. It has been recognized by the Bib Gourmand for offering good quality and value. The restaurant is easy to spot with a young lady holding a plate of Khua Gai (Chicken fried noodle) outside. The menu offers a variety of Thai comfort foods including noodles and rice bowls, served quickly through an online ordering system.
This was my second visit, and I appreciate that the food consistently maintains its quality and flavor. However, I found the prices to be slightly high compared to the portion sizes. I highly recommend trying the hot pan KuaKai—it's a must-try dish!
Fonne S — Google review
Kuakai is a type of noodle dish fried with chicken and eggs, and this place serves a delicious version of it along with other tasty dishes! I especially love how they top the Kuakai with a half-cooked egg, allowing you to mix it yourself. It’s also served in a pan, keeping the dish warm throughout your meal. However, I was hoping for a stronger smoky aroma from the fried pan to enhance the flavor. Apart from the Kuakai, the other dishes are great too. I particularly enjoyed their spicy salad and pork satay, both of which were flavorful. The restaurant itself is a nice spot, offering both outdoor and indoor seating options, making it suitable for any vibe you prefer.

As a person who has eaten a lot of kuakai or คั่วไก่ (stir-fried big rice noodles with chicken), I can say this is very delicious. I didn't expect this good before. I passed this restaurant for the whole 8 years and never came in. My friend and I want to eat some food after the workout and end up trying something new near Nimman. And yes, I thought it was right, kuakai is perfectly cooked. A bit of wok burn smell and taste make with very delicious. The noodle is not messed up at all. And the chicken is perfectly velvet. The drinking container is cute too. 10/10

Their fried seafood kway teow, topped with a sunny side egg and served on a hot plate is really good. 5 stars for this dish. We had their tom yum Kung and a simple stir fried morning glory. These are also above average. The price is also very reasonable. Recommended if you are in the Nimman area.
Rick K — Google review
We chanced upon the restaurant as it's near where we stayed, not knowing its Michelin history. The place is simple and clean. The food is nothing to praise. I ordered the crab paste, 3 tiny portions that were very dry. The signature hot pan seafood kwey Tiao was plain, the mud of the prawn not properly removed. The fried tofu has no flavour. I'm not sure if this is what Northern Thai food should taste like but I doubt it.

If you find yourself in Chiang Mai on a Sunday, make sure to visit the vibrant and bustling Sunday Night Market. The market comes alive around 5:00 pm, with stalls offering a wide variety of local foods, souvenirs, handicrafts, and cultural products. As you stroll from Tha Pae Gate to Chedi Luang Temple, take your time exploring the diverse offerings. You'll also find an array of street massages at very affordable prices.
Within old Chiang Mai city wall, this night market opens only on Sunday. We walked from east to west, covering about 1 km. Other than the Main Street, there are some side streets that led to temples, food bazaar, and small shops. We visited on 02 March 2025, along with many tourists. The mix of different languages chattering with stall holders was entertaining. Restaurants, street food stalls, and small shops selling accessories, paintings, wearing apparels lined up the street.
Biyan T — Google review
I think it’s a nice market to visit if you’re in Chiang Mai, it's open only on Sunday, but be prepared, it's extremely crowded. I arrived at 4:30 PM to be one of the first so it's great, BUT from 6 PM until midnight, it gets absolutely packed with people. So if you want to avoid the crowds as much as possible, come right at the start. There’s a ton of foods with all kinds of options, so definitely come hungry! You’ll also find lots of clothing at cheap prices, as well as paintings, unique bags, and souvenirs. Because of how crowded it gets, I’m giving it 3 stars.
Adi C — Google review
The Sunday Walking Street is busy, touristy, crowded, but still so much fun. It’s gigantic and could take a long time to see all of it, but even just visiting a small section is fun. Tons of great street food throughout. Bring cash, especially smaller bills if possible. By the way, don’t be afraid of street food in Thailand. I ate street food almost everyday for a month, and never had stomach issues. (Whereas I have had stomach issues from food in Mexico, Ecuador, etc…) Just use common sense, and enjoy. Also if you want to enjoy a big weekend night market with less crowds, check out the Saturday Walking Street, which is just south of the moat on Saturday nights.

Chiang Mai Sunday night market. A must visit place if you are here during the weekends. Be prepared for a huge crowd. If you're in Chiang Mai and craving a delicious bowl of Khao Soi, look no further than Khao Soi Wua Lai. This spot offers a fantastic alternative to other Khao Soi places in the area, with flavorful options like chicken for just THB50. The fragrant curry is packed with tender pieces of meat and plenty of chilies to customize the spice level to your liking.
I know this place as Khao Soi Wua Lai but it is for sure the same place. There is no real sign or fancy entrance, it looks like just another noodle shop. They do have normal noodles with beef, pork, fishballs etc. and it is all very good. What is really exceptional here though is the Khao Soi, and they serve the absolute best Chicken Khao Soi that I have had in Chiang Mai (or anywhere else) and I am a Kha Soi fanatic. I have eaten Khao Soi in Chiang Mai since my first visit in 1978, then in Chiang Rai a few years later, and soon thereafter Mae Hong Son, (etc). I consider this the best Khao Soi and equal to Khun Yai and Huen Phen in the Old City. These three are different but all three deserve to be considered the best. Because of the exceptional chicken meat, I personally prefer this one on Wua Lai Road to the others, but I also like the others a lot. Foreigners may not like the normal noodle shop atmosphere but for local Thais this place is very popular and every seat is filled at lunch. One little piece of advice, is to either eat two bowls if you are not filled by one bowl, or order a special bowl right up front. This is normal in all noodle shops in Thailand. I often hear complaints, even by long time expats, about the size of the bowl of noodles. Just learn how to order, if you want a larger portion than just please order "piset" which means special portion. In my photos you will see the Khao Soi in a stainless steel bowl, this is the smaller regular portion, the "piset" order comes in a larger bowl. I like eating several smaller orders so the noodles don't become soggy before I am finished eating.
George P — Google review
Another great bowl of Khao Soi @ Khao Soi Waulai. They offer Khao Soi chicken, pork or seafood. The other menu item is noodle soup, with 8 different meats on offer, including pork or fish balls, and your choice of 4 different types of noodles, with as much self-serve fresh Chinese cabbage as you desire. The menu is in English and Thai with photos. On every trip to this restaurant I see maybe one other foregin person dining here, usally Chinese. This place is a favorite among local neighborhood people. The 1st photo is typical of a Thai restaurant table with 8 or 10 condiments to season your food to taste. The 2nd photo is the pork Khao Soi I ordered, with the traditional pickled veg and shallots. The final photo is the seasoned end result mixed together. It a clean place and typical of a small Thai restaurants. Thervice is friendly, quick, and your order arrives promptly. Khao Soi Waulai serves northern Thai food at it's best. Aroy mak!

One of the best khao soi in CM, full of locals. Seems like it's run by an older couple, they don't speak any English but have an English menu. I actually prefer that they didn't give too much broth as I normally don't finish all of them. A bowl of khao soi and a bottle of Coke is 55 baht.

I was told about this place by locals and to be honest it was amazing Khao Soi but it wasn't the best I've had in CM. The staff are friendly and price is soooooo cheap. The place is a little dirty but that is to be expected at these street location owner-operator places. Drink, food, snack. 5 bucks. You can't beat that in many places. Almost 5 stars.

If you're looking for an authentic taste of southern Thai cuisine, then แกงส้มวันพฤหัส is the place to be. The dishes are bursting with warm, zesty, and savory flavors that will leave your taste buds tingling. From the crispy salty pork to the spicy shrimp curry, every dish is a complete delight. Even if you're not a fan of spicy food, the curry paste here is mild enough for everyone to enjoy.
(Translated by Google) The food is very delicious and complete. Eat the entire plate of rice. Drink a whole glass of water. There are some dishes I've never eaten before and when I tried them for the first time I was hooked. 🤩Salty pork menu, Khun Yuphin likes it very much. The pork is crispy for a long time and the taste is very good. Anyone who wants to come eat must make a reservation. Besides here, the southern tea is excellent. Southern food is also excellent.

(Translated by Google) “Roy Raeng” Thank you very much for making southern food. which has a strong taste Eating at this restaurant makes me miss the food at home ☺️ What I like the most is the duck egg curry. Rich, fragrant coconut milk and curry paste Fried pork is the best. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, easy to chew, not hard and sticky to your teeth. Shrimp paste chili paste is also delicious and rich. Eat with fermented cabbage in coconut milk. Favorite sweet shrimp It cuts the spicy flavor very well. Let's say it's recommended! You definitely won't be disappointed. (Warning: The food at the restaurant is very flavorful.)

(Translated by Google) Restaurant with the taste of southern curry paste The taste is very correct. Use very high quality ingredients. The food tastes delicious. It's a restaurant that requires reservations before friends go in to eat. Their food will be the main menu. and you can order more from the page. The shop is near the entrance to the Wing (Kad Phayom side). There is parking. During the day it is a Thai tea cafe. In the evening, it's southern food. The owner of the shop is very attentive to details. And there is a dessert of nuts, yams, and spurs in the Southern style, delicious and not too sweet. Who likes southern food? The taste makes me recommend this restaurant. P.S. Don't forget to make a reservation before going in to eat ✨ (Original)

(Translated by Google) Very delicious, every taste. Come try it. Personally, I'm someone who doesn't dare eat southern food because I'm afraid of it being spicy. But this shop does a lot. The taste is very easy to eat. Really complete with every flavor Love fried pork very much🥹 I like that there is dessert at the end. Really a complete set. But I forgot to take a photo of the dessert because I ate it in too much of a hurry. I realized that I had already eaten it all._. The price per table is 1800 baht and can accommodate 4-5 people. Will come again for sure🤩 (Original)

Som tam yumsap, a delightful green papaya salad hailing from the Isaan region, has captured the hearts and taste buds of food lovers across Thailand. This dish is a staple at both bustling street food stalls and upscale dining establishments. Its preparation is refreshingly straightforward, requiring just unripe papaya, chilies, green beans, tomatoes, ginger, dried shrimp, fish sauce, palm sugar, and lime juice—though chefs often add their unique twists with various ingredients.
tasty papaya salad!

(Translated by Google) Very delicious cold green papaya shreds! ✨ I ordered the fermented crabmeat and green papaya shreds, which was spicy and sour. Although I couldn’t stand it🤣, I still finished it! Because it's really delicious. 💚 Especially when paired with the famous rice noodle soup from the stall opposite, which costs NT$20 a bowl, it’s perfect. Highly recommended to eat here once~ (Original)

(Translated by Google) Come here on Mondays unfortunately it's closed. The place is in the courtyard of a temple. So enter through the temple door then head right. Selling under shady trees with lots of seating. Very comfortable and cool. Also available are various other foods (Original) Ke sini hari Senin sayangnya tutup. Tempatnya ada di halaman sebuah kuil. Jadi masuknya lewat pintu kuil lalu menuju kanan. Jualan di bawah pohon rindang dengan banyak tempat duduk. Sangat nyaman dan sejuk. Juga tersedia berbagai makanan lain

(Translated by Google) The stalls are prettier than the previous Google review images. This space next to the temple is a picnic area where I had saved a spot for lunch someday. When I went there at 2 o'clock, the food stalls were already closed and the only ones open were this papaya salad shop and the fish paste skewer stand. I ordered papaya salad and rice noodle salad. I can speak English. Thankfully, I added the spices later, so it was the first time in a while that I ate a dish that didn't contain chili peppers. There are two types of papaya salad, Thai-style papaya salad is milder and Lao-style papaya salad is brown and salty. It was 110 THB for two items. I think it would be more interesting to go early and try other stalls.
