Came here for breakfast. Was excited because I have heard great things about this cafe and is always busy when I walk by. I ordered an iced latte with oat milk and the eggs your way on toast with smashed avocado. The coffee and toast were both great and I would 100% recommend getting them. The avocado was ripe and had no tough parts. The seasonings they put on top of the eggs and toast are very yummy and gave the flavor of the dish a nice pop. The only complaint I have is the eggs themselves. They were very watery and basically sitting in liquid which was a little unappetizing. It was bland in some areas and overly salty in others. The atmosphere of the cafe was very nice and cozy and there are a few outdoor tables where I chose to sit. Overall it was a good experience but if I come back I would not get the eggs again. Since it’s busy a lot I would recommend making a reservation if you plan to come here with a larger group of people.

The hot chocolate was amazing. I have not yet found a good hot chocolate outside of Belgium until I tried Buster Green’s. In Belgium they put real chocolate drops at the bottom of a tall glass and then pour hot milk for the customer to stir and it’s delicious…no chocolate powder rubbish. Buster Greens was close to the Belgium experience by giving a full solid chocolate stick to stir into the hot liquid is what made it so great. The service was welcoming and the food delicious 😋

Had a delicious smoothie bowl and can never go wrong with the cabinet food, everything always looks sooo yummy!! A little chilly in the cafe but good vibes and staff were super friendly.

Today I went into the café, having not had much success with other Dunedin Cafés regarding making a special drink, because of intolerance issues. The staff were sooooooo adorably lovely, superb, super helpful. Such a welcome like this is rare to find. :-) Seriously, happily made the drink, chatted about intolerance issues, the day and life in general. Genuine people. I watched as other customers came in, all the staff members were exactly 💯 the same, open, friendly and welcoming 🙏 😀 They served another couple, with their drinks. Looked like lemonade, came with posh classes, ice, lemon on the side, presented very professional 👌 Every single person that entered greeted the same. These were young women who clearly enjoyed working here. They, themselves were well-dressed tidy, polite and happy souls. The food on offer in the cabinet, fresh, unique and amazing 👏 The menu items 😋 cost effective, well presented and plentiful. Absolutely 💯 head in here, it well 👍 worth the effort, no effort actually. Places in hospitality hard to find at this amazing level nowadays.

The staff were incredibly friendly, the food was excellent, and the café had such a lovely atmosphere. Everything was freshly made — absolutely loved it! Just still don’t know why every cafe in NZ closes at 3 pm :(

What an awesome place - found as drop in spot in the way to Wanaka. Funky, cosy, stylish. Food was amaze balls. Lambs fry, Eggs Benedict with mushrooms. I’m fussy with coffee and their In house coffee roast was yummo ! Plate licking stuff. Our dog loved the dog beer ‘Ted Wilson’s Dog Beer’ what a cool idea. Dunedin gem.

Delicious meal and great wine selection. Definitely recommend if you want a fantastic evening with a small or large group. Service is great. Fantastic atmosphere. Relaxed and friendly.

Honest review! Having been before we knew coming back while around Dunedin was the thing to do. We had an mishap with the meal that was ordered based on this I'd like to review the consequences of this which I'm really grateful to the staff of Ironic whom were overly apologetic and offered to discount our food for this which made the circumstantial detail forgotten. These guys are great ,they have amazing food and the place is beautiful, that's why it's so popular. Well definitely be back when around and thank you for sorting things out ,it would never put us off . For this reason I could only score a 4 overall on this visit, I know next time we come you'll be back to the 5 star we know , Thank you Ironic.

Yum food, nice staff, great proportion

Really good food, but very small portions for the price. Look, I don't mind paying a lot of money for good food, but giving an amazing bene with one piece of bread instead of two saves you $0.10 and takes away my full enjoyment of the meal. I would be posting a 5 star review if I just received two pieces of bread.

I just popped in for a coffee on Sunday. First time i had been there. Nice atmosphere and reasonably busy. I didn't order food but the cabinet food looked quite nice. Interior is nicely decorated with indoor plants. Ordered a large coffee for $6.50 (seems to be the average price for a large coffee these days). What was brought to my table was the size of a small coffee in a stupid cup that has those handles you can't put your finger through to hold. You need to pinch the handle really firmly and hold the opposite side of the cup as well. Why can't the owners understand these types of coffee cups are so impractical? They need to get better cups that are a decent size for what you would expect a large coffee to be. Oh and the coffee was OK.... not brilliant, but OK.

Meal was great, no complaints with the food, unfortunately the service was very slow. Took along tim for it order to be taken and a very long time for our meals to come out like over an hour in total. Could understand if they were busy but no they certainly werent

Great cafe, we visited twice during our stay in Dunedin. Vegetarian friendly with lots of options, really great coffee. Everyone I visited with enjoyed their meal. Also the staff were really friendly. Worth waiting for a table.

Warm welcoming café with absolutely delicious food We had chilli mince on ciabatta toast (could of had a bit more chilli) but it was great. 5 stars we would definitely come again

Busy busy we got there 1 minute after tbey opened and it was nearly a full house! This speaks volumes when another Cafe is only 10 metres away. My Coffee was first rate and breakfast was excellent, when next we are in Dunedin we won't be shopping around for breakfast anymore this is the only destination. Bacon was a highlight not wafer thin and certainly did not appear to be from a supermarket. Zero complaints but endless compliments!

Perc Café comes highly recommended by the i site, but our breakfast experience was mixed. - Food: - Salmon Bagel:Basic and slightly dry, lacking the wow factor. - Eggs Benedict: Average, with a pale and flavorless hollandaise sauce. - French Toast: A standout! The best we’ve had – a perfect combination of berries, mascarpone, poached pear, and nougat. A must-try. - Drinks: - Latte:Decent but unremarkable. - Mocha: Watery and served cold, disappointing for a café of this reputation. - Ambience:Simple and functional, but nothing extraordinary. Overall, while most items were underwhelming, the French Toast is worth the visit. A little extra attention to the other menu items could elevate the ambience.

The Perc Cafe was started in 2007. The intension of owners to open the cafe was with fancy Tea n baking stuff. But later on due to popularity they started with full breakfast menu😊 Well I had been to cafe and was so impressed with the interior. This place has a good vibe with good food. I ordered Chilli scrambled eggs 🍳which were very delicious.Then I ordered curly fries with airoli 🍟which was surprisingly good as well.Also had tried Strawberry milk shake🧋which i belive was fine. But overall I had good time here❤️

Only came for eggs benne and that’s exactly what I got, it tasted as it should - perfect. Although the bread just needed to be a bit bigger as I had more leftover eggs and bacon than bread but otherwise it was great. Love the interior of this place, could do with more tables by taking out one of the larger ones but what would I know.

On the hunt for Dunedins best eggs bene that doesn't break the bank. At $22 for the bacon edition, I'd say this one is not bad. Personally I would have liked a bit more spinach and micro greens and it definitely lacked any type of acidic element to "cut through the fat" A wee tickle of Balsamic glaze around the plate would have been perfect

Recommended by the concierge at the Fable. I had the Akaroa Salmon Bene. By far the most flavour packed combination I have had in a long time. So good I came back the next day to try it again on the rosti. Did not disappoint. Compliment's to the Chef!

Fabulous coffee and food! Highly recommend the filter coffee, check what’s on offer each day as it changes, I had a very nice single origin Ethiopian. Espresso also great. And, very tasty food, we had breakfast 3 days in a row and can recommend the granola, also had poached eggs and bacon with a house made rosti in place of bread to make it gluten free (gf bread also an option). Staff are super helpful and friendly :)

Went back again this time didn't order coffee. As I never like their coffee taste. Sour. This time ordered smoothie called Green. Very nice!!! Love it but it was $12. Quite expensive really. Carrot cake was great. Service was good.

The coffee is excellent. Their flat white is rich without being overwhelming, with a smooth crema and just the right amount of milk. The single origin pour‑overs are a delight — floral notes, bright acidity, and clean finish: shows they care about their beans and their roast.

Had a family dinner there - loved the restaurant as it was nice and cozy. Seemed to be understaffed as was difficult to get attention. Food wise, it was a bit disappointing, I ordered the fish which was dry, my husband ordered the lamb but the sauce was too acidic that gave a weird tingling feeling at the tip of this tongue and the kids burger (the fries was overly salted) you could literally see the salt.....the beef croquettes was good and try that out. The cheese platter we had was just average.

No.7 Balmac was such a memorable dining experience! We absolutely loved the warm, inviting ambiance and the genuine hospitality from the staff. The food was incredible—every dish had depth and character, and the smokiness from their signature wood-fired cooking really came through beautifully. The wine pairing was excellent too, and it was clear how much care and thought went into everything, from the plating to the flavors. It’s the kind of place you’d want to return to for both special occasions and relaxed evenings alike. Highly recommend if you’re in Dunedin!

5/5 stars for me! Impeccable food accompanied by amazing service. You can tell the chefs put in effort in every part of concocting their dishes. I had the lamb loin and duck confit, they were both amazing. Lamb loin was tender and juicy, accompanied by the red wine reduction sauce which went really well together. Duck confit was tender, juicy and flavourful. Sides were extraordinary too. Specifically the Brussels sprouts. Crispy and light, it goes really well with either main course, or even as a bar snack. Floor staffs were attentive and they knew their products well. In terms of recommending wine or food! Not sure what's up with the negative reviews, but this place is amazing! Try it for yourself.

Absolutely the best!! We had a range of starters, followed by two mains and sides and two desserts. The best dishes we've ever eaten and we've been all over the world. Highly recommend!!

Gorgeous fine dining with a warm, welcoming vibe. The BBQ dishes cooked on applewood on open fire are a standout. As are the cocktails! A good wine list too with a couple of decent vinos on tap.

Nice coffee. Food was a bit slow coming.Nice though. Good location and pleasant atmosphere with good music. A few smiles from some of the staff would make a big difference. It felt like being a customer was an inconvenience.

Highly recommended the bagel here! It’s well-cooked, the bagel is very crispy and the strawberry jam and cream cheese perfectly fit together! The iced chocolate is nice as well, we even got one to go in the end 😊

Yes, they serve delicious coffee; and the pastries are heavenly. (I kept staring at the strawberry and white chocolate muffin I was eating to make sure it was real.) But go for the breakfast! The inadequately named Roast (portobello) Mushrooms are a symphony that includes spinach and a perfectly poached egg on toasted ciabatta bread. (I also ordered the bacon but it was large and tasty enough on its own.) Add to all this friendly service and you have no excuse not to try this wonderful restaurant.

Average price, not expensive but the foods quality is great. I ordered Salmon Eggs Benedict, Cheese Roll and lemon cake. Will try the coffee and other foods.

I can only say wonderful things about Modaks as on both of our visits the service and food we're fantastic. The decor is wonderful with a selection of formica tables and chairs that look like they have just come from the 70's. Images on the walls by local artists. Breakfast was amazing. My monster eggs kept me going all day. My sons salmon looked fantastic. The service is fantastic. Will happily visit again.

New owners have taken over roughly 6 weeks ago, was welcomed in by a lovely lady! We got chatting and once I revealed I was a student she informed me it was 10% off drinks and 5% off food for students. Such a great deal and lovely food, service, and people!! Will be recommending to everyone xxx

Enjoyed a good cooked breakfast (although they mucked up the order slightly but we couldn’t be bothered getting it corrected). This end of Princes Street is a bit devoid of cafés - other than some rather good coffee shops - so it was good to find this one.

I tried out Catalyst whilst visiting Dunedin last year for work and it was incredible so i thought i would come again. Unfortunately, i believe management has changed hands, and now it was one of the worst experiences i could've had. The staff seem extremely overworked and struggling with demand, there must be a new chef alongside the management change because none of the food came out at the same time, a all of it was cold and the portions are much smaller. The changes that have happened have ruined a once great place, so i will not be returning. We spent around 40 dollars per person, and honestly, it was up to the standard of a 10-dollar place. The one and only good thing were the staff, they were lovely, but unfortunately still doesn't make up for the terrible changes that have occurred under the new management.

I ordered a Bacon eggs benedict. The greens were dead as, probably didnt receive their morning oder on time. And the Hollandaise sauce was bland. The dish was served at room temperature and half way it was cold. The staff is friendly and helpful. Loved the atmosphere. Cabinet food and a good variety of drinks available.

We were recommended Catalyst as a brunch spot while visiting, and it was wonderful! The food and service were exceptional. A big shout out to Renee, who gave us fantastic customer service and was so lovely to chat with.

Did not have a great experience today. Do not recommend. 3 out of the 9 people at our table had hairs in their food. One person brought it to the waitresses attention after noticing it in the sauce about half way through eating his meal. He kindly and calmly saying “hey i’ve found a hair in my food what can you guys do” they then took his food and came back and told him he has been cut off from receiving drinks for the Bubbles And Brunch, after having 3 beers. The man at our table then did come across a slightly passive aggressive I do admit, but the response we got is that the police would be called. And I just don’t think there was grounds to escalate it so quickly as it made everything a lot worse. He didn’t yell, didn’t stand up, didn’t get in anyone’s face and he was automatically threatened with the police. Other places where I have found a hair in my food, they are extremely apologetic and get you a new plate or refund. We didn’t expect that but did expect more kindness and think we were treated quite unfairly. I don’t agree with the man’s behaviour at our table and they way he ended up going about it, but I do not think we deserved to be met with threatening to call the police, over a hair in food.

Average food, good drinks, but limited food and drink options, staff were lowkey kinda passive not a vibe but we just carried on anyways. Yeah probably wouldn’t come again not the worst experience but also not the best. Also anyone that’s looking at this review DO NOT get the banana bread unless you like Christmas cake, too many raisin’s

Great Food and Atmosphere, but Disappointing Coffee Union Cafe is conveniently located near the cruise port and offers a lovely vibe with excellent food. The relaxing atmosphere really stood out, making it an enjoyable place to spend time. I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious my eggs were, and my friend’s dishes, as seen in the photos, looked and tasted fantastic as well. The food was definitely a highlight. However, the coffee was a letdown. In my experience, coffee in New Zealand tends to be hit or miss, and unfortunately, this time it was a miss. The coffee was bitter and watery, so much so that I couldn’t finish it. On the bright side, the outdoor seating area is cute and would be a great option if it’s not too cold. Overall, Union Cafe is worth a visit for the food and atmosphere, but not a huge fan of the coffee.

Solid 2.5 stars💕 experience . coffee taste free, though was brown and warm, baked item as depicted lacked any flavor sans cinnamon. Tiny butter pat improved it. Solid 2.5 stars. Cleanliness and comfort solid 2.5 stars.

Beautiful view overlooking the port. The ambience inside is unique and can cater for larger crowds. Coffee was excellent, probably one of the best I've had in Dunedin. There must've been a shortage of Caramel slice with the tiny pieces available, however it not lack in taste. Should've been $3.50 at the most. My friend was disappointed that there was no cheese scone however, nonetheless he settled for a savoury scone which he said was great.

Always a pleasure stopping by this gem in Port Chalmers. The atmosphere is warm and welcomin, perfect for a quiet coffee or a catch-up with friends. The coffee is consistently excellent, clearly made with care, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Definitely one of my favourite local spots!

It's a great place, cafe interior could be refreshed but it's Dunedin and it maybe the look they want. Not much in the way of hiking and could walk around the Port if you wish. Many cafes and shops around. Depending on the time you can get excellent photography shots. It's a nice place. Need to try restaurants next time and spend a little longer. I was working in a cafe for a bit .

Not much seating or table space, and I noticed there was no salt or serviettes available, but there was raw sugar. It’s an alright spot—probably better suited for takeaways. Prices are reasonable, and I’d give it a solid 3 out of 5, maybe a 4 at best. The service was great, though, and the atmosphere had a kind of rustic seaside dock vibe, which was charming in its own way. It might be a good place for a solo visit or a small gathering of up to three people. Perhaps I’m a bit overly critical after living in Auckland, or maybe it’s just that the small conveniences make all the difference. Either way, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t outstanding either—a truly mid experience. Go in with modest expectations, and you won’t be disappointed.

Best coffee, Carrot cake and people! Perfect little local café Over the years the service has remained amazing, staff and owners are great. Coffee is non bitter, the mocha’s are sweet and smooth. All their food feels wholesome and healthy. Plus the carrot cake I had today blew me away! Easily the best carrot cake I’ve ever eaten.

I had the stacked poached eggs with roasted tomato's and mushrooms. Dee-double-licious, as my mother would say. Decaf cappuccino, also d-double. I can readily recommend this place. The whole place is artsy. The upstairs comfy and well lit.

Cool vintage warehouse space cafe. Always busy, but plenty of room. Probably the largest scones and best tasting. Great coffee, great friendly service.

Good food indeed. Soup of the day was done nicely but tasted a little too sweet for me. The good side is that the soup was gluten and dairy free. Eggs with smoked salmon and bacon were perfectly matched and we enjoyed the cozy vibes there. I also packed a coconut cake which was tasted amazing. Worth a try if you want a solid brunch.

Attended my son's wedding here recently, cannot fault anything about this wonderful place. Fantastic owner, fantastic staff, beautiful surroundings and absolutely amazing food. Would highly recommend a visit.

absolutely fabulous venue. lovely atmosphere , great service with very attentive staff. Food was superb. Big bonus was the accessibility , you can drive right round the back to drop off someone who has limited mobility so she only had to walk about 10 metres from the car to her seat. We were a group of 30 and we didn't feel rushed, they were quite happy for us to sit and chat over a coffee.

We tried this place for the first time and overall we’re really happy — we’ll definitely be back! The food wasn’t perfect, but it was very good, with just a few elements that could be improved. The pricing is very reasonable. The service was excellent and the staff were helpful in guiding us with our order. The live music added a lovely touch, and the musician had a beautiful, friendly smile. The atmosphere was pleasant, and I appreciated the simplicity of the interior décor. Our child loved her platter and has already asked us to go back soon!

Visited Glenfalloch Gardens for coffee and loved it. The café staff were attentive, friendly, and made me feel really looked after. The gardens are absolutely stunning, lush winding paths, vibrant blooms, and gorgeous harbour views. A perfect spot for a relaxing visit or even an event. Highly recommended!

Loved how the fantails would follow you around. I ran out of time to walk around all the gardens. What I did see was pretty. It was a sweet interruption to our cycle around the harbor. Great coffee and cake from the cafe there. Was quite busy, so it may be worthwhile to book ahead if you went for lunch.

What an absolute vibe! Dined in for a date night with my husband. The atmosphere was incredible with live music throughout 👌🏻 Food was great (I chose the vegetarian options - pumpkin soup with bread for starters, and the Portobello Mushroom with roasted potatoes for mains). Both dishes were delicious and were really big portions! Vegetarian / vegan friendly menus are available separately and can be obtained by asking your waiter for one 😊 Hubby choose the pumpkin soup for starters and the Fish of the Day for mains which he confirmed to be very enjoyable 👌🏻 The live music and ambience of the restaurant definitely sets the tone for a romantic dinner date 🥹 We'll definitely be back! 💃

Haven’t been here in the longest time and I don’t know why. The coffee was perfect and the cheese muffins are nothing short of awesome, don’t buy them all, leave some for me.

Nice place to visit for a cuppa and cake. Good service from the staff. I like having a mocca. This time I followed it with ginseng green tea. I had a apple cake. Noticed a rubarb friend which I will try next time. Give Rubarb a try.

I had the coconut pancakes and they were so good!!😳 They were actually hot and came with delicious banana and maple syrup^^

I ordered a side of mushrooms for $5 and was genuinely shocked when the plate arrived with just three mushrooms, each only slightly bigger than a 50c coin. For the price, I expected a lot more substance. While they were cooked well, the portion was so underwhelming it felt more like a garnish than a proper side. Definitely not good value, and it left a bad taste considering the cost. Would recommend reviewing the portion sizes or pricing to better match expectations.

A lovely café located inside the museum. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Just be prepared for some wait time during busy hours, both for ordering and getting your food or drinks. Still, it’s a nice place to relax while visiting the museum.

The place was recommended by a fellow backpacker so i'd thought i'll come by to take a look. Not a big place but does have both indoor and outdoors sitting. Everyone's okie to share the table. Minimalistically decorated. Variety on the menu. I was in a dilemma on choosing what to eat and the owner shared what he preferred which wasnt the most expensive thing off the menu. Haha. Shows the love he has for the food and people than the profit. Awesome. I had Hash: its pulled pork and taters.. very well done, not overly salty. Well prepared. Hot chocolate, theres the cadbury and whittakers options. Always nice to know there's a choice. :) Street parking. Help urself to the water, by the counter. All in all, an enjoyable brunch out.

The coffee and soup were fantastic! My companion said that the eggs were a great texture but lacked in taste. A little more on the expensive side but a cute little cafe to stop into and watch the world in the window.

Café Santosha is a true hidden gem! Located down an alleyway in Port Chalmers, Dunedin it offers a unique vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating but the food! Oh my word! It was absolutely delicious 🤤 And the coffee connoisseur among our group gave the coffee 2 thumbs up 👍🏼 We’ll be returning.

A hidden cafe in Port Chalmers but quite popular among locals. It has a quirky vibe inside with a nice courtyard for a sunny day. The food and drinks are typical of cafe menu. I had Cheese and Mince Pie with Relish and it was delicious. The staff were quite friendly too. A nice place for morning tea or lunch after looking at the the shop in front of it.

Lovely little café that prides itself in its homemade food. It’s a bit hidden in a small alley, but comes with a beautiful backyard. Staff are very welcoming and friendly. The food are mainly baked goods - sweet and savoury, with even some keto-friendly options (frittata).

This was an absolutely perfect spot for a morning bite and coffee in Port Chalmers. The setting is magical and feels like a storybook. Our meals were delicious, and the service was fantastic. We felt so welcome as travelers from the US. Thank you for a memorable breakfast on our honeymoon cruise!

Amazing coffee, very tasty Lush Lemon slice, cool decoration and super kind staff! The toilets are clean, and the café is located in a heritage building made of old stone with cosy atmosphere. Just what I needed after long hours driving from the North.

Delicious flat whites and iced Americano served here. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was bustling around. It was a good spot to sit in for a coffee whilst shopping around the Dunedin Central area.

Heard hey chocolate milkshakes were fantastic so thought I'd treat myself to one. Wasn't blown away, just felt it tasted like a plain chocolate milk but with a slightly more stronger creamier chocolate accent. Cute place though. Albeit a bit cramped but the bar stools are a nice touch. Got a cute and delicious treat of carrot cake with lemon icing and yogurt on the side. Staff was friendly and helpful and also was super happy that they have fluffies on the menu! Overall neat place but not wowed

We had the spicy chicken, special baguettes and eggs bene with salmon and it was all so fresh and delicious. The flat white and hot choc was rich, full and hit the spot! Highly recommend Kiki Beware on George Street 👍💥😋

Staff were friendly & answered our questions patiently. Coffee was delightful! We loved it, both the espresso & the milk were of great quality. Personally I loved my Mexican Iced Coffee — it was unique & delicious. Would recommend this place! It’s decently affordable too.

They have the best iced blended mocha in town and nothing can ever beat it. It is large enough to share with a friend. Sandwiches, poutine /chicken and chips are our go-to and can’t go wrong. Recommend this place to anyone from any age group.

Nice coffee and place. Sitting by the street with a cup of latte, watching the world go by. The pace is slow, not much noise, just the occasional footsteps, a distant hum of life.

Honestly a 10/10 for me. Got a flat white with soy milk and it was perfect. Pretty hard to come by a place that can do alternative milks the same as normal milk. Espresso was tasty. Service was great too, baristas super friendly. Can’t complain at all! 😊

Have visited ADJØ many times over several years and definitely think it is a good cafe! Has a good range of food options including a main menu, porridge menu and cabinet food. I love the porridge and the carrot cake with yogurt!! Personally I’m not a fan of the main menu. The drinks are yum too - especially the anisetta. The seating is not very comfortable, particularly for taller people. The staff are easy going and attentive. Definitely recommend a visit, especially to try the carrot cake!!

Absolutely wonderful! Come here every other week with uni friends and always have a great time. Matcha and coffee are a top pick for me in Dunedin. Plus the SCONES. The scones are one of the best I have tried and will forever dream of them.

The worst matcha I’ve ever had… maybe reach out to some matcha companies and see if they can help you improve. It’s essentially $7 for steamed milk with sugar and cinnamon. The drink isn’t even green and has zero matcha flavour

It's a great place! I'm only giving four stars because there is a surcharge for any payment by card. The place gets packed on pubquiz night, so be there early (its so much fun, and hard! Never won). Food is amazing!!

What a unique range of food and beverage! Truly one of a kind cafe, with the George Street upgrade complete this cafe really stands out with its view and placement. Coffee was excellent, was surprised by the tonic and espresso as well has spiced espresso.

Went to The Swan for a midday coffee. Ordered some coffees, lattes and cappuccinos. The staff were nice and friendly and happy to take order. One coffee was asked to be made custom with mixed in sweetener and they said no problem. Tasted good, standard coffee. Didn't try the food but saw some other tables with it and looked decently portioned and nice. Some loud road works happening outside which couldn't be avoided but besides that was great. Has outdoor seating to enjoy the sun. Would come back.

Lovely spot, nice atmosphere. We enjoyed having some sharing plates. The stuffed potato skins and pork bites were our favourites. The beads and dips were lovely too. The staff were friendly ,we enjoyed chatting with the waitress from Maine and the Kiwi waitress Ruth. (Think this was her name) Thanks Sarah and Stephen 🇮🇪

I had lunch at Swan on Monday, 14 July. The broccoli soup was absolutely delicious, and every dish was cooked to perfection. The chef is truly amazing! The service was outstanding as well. Highly impressed!

Great food, but portion size was tiny as. We ordered three sharing plates for two people. The duck eggroll was tasty, but it was two small egg rolls cut in half for $19, so almost $10 per egg roll. The eye fillet was $20 for five bites of tasty steak. The broccoli and spinach was the only decent portion size and was really quite good. Service was great. So, if you're keen on great tasting, tiny portions that are quite dear for their size, this is your place!

Shout out to my niece who recommended this beautiful cafe, great food with really different flavour combinations - both dishes were perfect and the service was excellent.

Loved this little cafe - they had the best espresso martini my husband and I have ever had “the white swan” - best if made by Danielle 😊 She said, it’s her “favorite to drink and favorite to make” If there is construction on the street when you go, don’t let that deter you! They are open and ready to serve you!

I had the eggs Benny, homemade hollandaise was homemade delicious. Generous serving of salmon. Coffee was hot and strong, yum. Went back for afternoon tea. The lemon muffin had lemon curd in the middle. The best I had.

Unlike previous times I have visited here, today I found that the food just wasn't up to part. The Panini was a bit doughy and dry, with not a lot of filling, and the Cinnamon Scroll I ordered was the oddest one I've ever had, as it include sultanas/raisins or similar. Was quite disappointed but do hope they improve.

Really good food and nice and interesting interior. Very sad and disappointed by the staff, not friendly or smiling, or a basic good morning/ hello. Needed to request to clean our table as nobody came to remove the previous dishes. Waited long time for food and served our plates to another big table who arrived and ordered way longer after us. Little things could change a lot for a little moment. Don’t go there for a good service

Love the updated decor! Coffee we had could have been a bit smoother - a little acidic. Food is delicious however. Enjoyed the game machines. *if you could add some gluten free substitites to your menu that would be incredible! I can think of some of people I'd love to bring here. They don't mind dogs! I always assumed the café opposite the courthouse would be average but this was one of the nicest, freshest and cleanest cafes that I have been to, in Dunedin. Big plus, they don't order in food but rather make it all fresh themselves and it's delicious!

Top service from the lovely lady who served me this morning. While I chopped and changed my mind with what I wanted for breakfast, we finally got there. She was so patient with me. Thank you. The granola was amazing! I will be back again and again for that! I felt like I was on a tropical island having this breaky. It was such a treat!!

An extremely busy Cafe. And whilst it’s far from the most atmospheric venue and the service lacks any real quality the food and coffee more than make up for it. The starfish stack was just what was called for after a night out. It was tasty and filling. Yes it would have been nice had the hash browns been made in house but that’s a wee niggle. Better service and this would be a five star review. I feel the staff are simply over whelmed as the cafe is simply over run.

Just some friendly constructive criticism; As the place could really use the staff to pay it some attention all round. Tables and chairs dirty, outdoor area not swept up (rubbish around) & bathroom had no hand wash. We got the bang bang chicken which was meant to be a salad- a heavy coating of sauce that pooled and turned into a soup. The flavour was nice but became very overpowering. The staff stood around talking in the back while my friend waited until I’d almost finished my meal for her cabinet food came out. A breakfast bap- with heated lettuce & no sauce. No one came to clear our table or check on our experience. Perhaps because of it being later on in the day however we just didn’t feel like that should be an excuse for the lack of service/cleanliness for the price we paid.

First time visiting this restaurant 😋 😍 not bad at all , loved the venue with its hardwood floors and old style look and so close to the beach 🏖we found the staff super nice and polite and very helpful 😀, the food arrived in a good time ! Starfish is a cosy cafe just off the beachside promenade, with tables out front and also in cosy nooks spread over the ground and first floor. Staff are friendly and efficient, warning of a 20-minute delay on our coffees, which turned out to be only ten. The kitchen team worked wonders and our order for a party of five was only a further ten minutes behind the drinks. Food portions were generous and tasty. The menu had a wide range of choices for all tastes and preferences. Recommended.

One of the best breakfast cafe i have ever been in Dunedin. They have the best scramble egg on toast in town. Very moist and soft eggs and great tasty toast. Its so good that i went back once again the next day as I missed it so much. Big breakfast and French toast is another recommendation too, good for 2 to share as the serving is big.

This cafe has been opened since my university day. It's a good cafe with a nice wee courtyard if you want to sit outside. It's very popular among university students. It offers delicious food, both kitchen and cabinet food. It's a good place to get a quick coffee and hot chocolate of course. The smoothies are quite nice too. Highly recommended if you are around the campus.

Lovely atmosphere on the corner across from the St David lecture theatre. Loved my matcha latte. Use the brand Alternative for their alty milks. Small cabinet of lovely fresh cakes. Peaceful inside even though it's on a busy street.

The Good Earth Café - the best café ever! - has absolutely amazing servers with a whole lot of personality and exquisite barista skills. The whole team are a lot of fun to share a hearty laugh with! The kitchen and cabinet food is just fantastic, so damn delicious! A wide range of food is available, including catering to dietary needs. I’ve genuinely never left the counter with a takeout or the table after a dine-in unsatisfied! A spot on little café conveniently plopped just on the outskirts of the University grounds for our convenience. I’d 100% recommend a visit if you’re out of town and have a thirst to quench or if you’re just feeling peckish.

Had been ro the Good Earth Cafe because of the good reviews it has and also because of its heritage building history. My experience was okay with the coffee as i know what good coffee tastes like so. Had order scrambled eggs which was good also Pumpkin soup which was okay again. The interior is so classy i liked the vibe the place has.overall i liked tge place as its cossy and good.

In Dunedin for Masters Games and googled cafes for breakfast. The Good Earth had a rating of 4.4/5. So 8 of us dined inside the first time we visited. The service was great we decided to dine there again. It was a nice sunny day, so decided to dine outside in the courtyard which had such a lovely atmosphere. Our group was impressed with the very fast service of our coffees on both visits considering it was very busy. The staff were great, friendly and helpful. The food ordered was absolutely delicious, the guys loved every bite. Nice and flavoursome! This is also a great cafe for vegan/vegatarian and gluten free options. There were lots of tasty options available! It was a little on the pricey side but totally worth it. Will definitely dine here again next time in Dunedin 👍

The coffee was superb. The fried eggs on toast were just that, nothing more nothing less. The staff are super lovely.

I reckon this establishment is a great little kiwi gem. Unpretentious with a nice atmosphere, the coffee was good and the ginger crunch and toasted date cinnamon scone were delicious! The cafe is perfectly situated looking onto and across the harbour. There are plenty of seating options, both inside and outside, and the service was excellent.

We lucked out with a gorgeous sunny winter’s day, so we grabbed a table outside. Both of us ordered the Potato rosti stack with smoked salmon, and it was spot-on — perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and so satisfying. The coffee was just as good (smooth and well made), and the service was friendly and attentive without being over the top. Such a lovely spot for a relaxed lunch!

Tucked away in beautiful Portabello we find this extraordinarily good cafe so had breakfast here twice. Highly recommend and most importantly the coffee was excellent. Look at that date scone! Crammed with dates. My breakfast was the vegaterian

Found our way here with a random stop while checking out the local area. Grabbed coffee and googled the reviews. Decided to try food, very reasonable prices compared to cafs in the city but there was no compromise on quality. Wicked stoked we came here, this place is awesome. Ginger slice was good but tan slice was the better. Thanks heaps.

Went there with my mother inlaw for lunch today. We both had the pulled pork burger. I can honestly say that this was the best burger I have had in a very long time. Was a really great experience overall. I will certainly be going back!!

It was a sunny morning, and breakfast at Governor’s Café turned out to be a delightful choice. Known as one of Dunedin’s oldest breakfast spots, established in 1977, the café exudes a warm, welcoming atmosphere that complements its reputation .  The menu is extensive, offering everything from toasted muesli and waffles to ciabatta-based dishes. I opted for the Big Brekkie—a generous serving of bacon, eggs, grilled tomatoes, and hash browns atop toasted ciabatta . For those preferring lighter fare, options like eggs with mushrooms are available.  Service was friendly and efficient, and the coffee, made with locally roasted beans, was smooth and satisfying. The café maintains a clean environment with well-organized seating, enhancing the overall dining experience. Prices are reasonable, offering good value for the quality and portion sizes. Overall, Governor’s Café provided a pleasant breakfast experience, combining hearty meals, attentive service, and a cozy setting.

the apple crumble pancakes were ridiculously good! i’m sad i don’t live in dunedin so can’t get them all the time! The staff were super kind too especially the man on the front counter - when i ordered a smoothie wanting to have it for taking away, he offered to wait till i was done with my meal to have it made! small gesture but made my day, and it was delicious as well. i absolutely recommend that you try this cafe.

Came in with my sister and the 2 kids for breakfast while I was visiting town. Delicious food!! I had the salmon Benedict and pancakes. Demolished my plates. Service was super friendly. The kids play room was cool too! My nephew enjoyed it! Still has that rustic homely feeling as before when I used to work here back in 2018 but now with a touch of modern upgrades. Will be back again when I next visit.

Great coffee, big breakfast and cabinet food which had a mixture of healthy options and indulgent cakes. The staff were very nice and it was always warm enough to take your coat off on the cold winter mornings. We were in Dunedin for just one week but Governor's Cafe quickly became my favourite. Visiting from Christchurch we were looking for a child friendly cafe. This place is amazing! Great atmosphere, play room upstairs, high chairs, child's menu and accommodating staff! Great value for the food you receive and coffee is great! Definitely a new favorite!

I had an oat flat white, and am very fussy with my coffee - I literally searched 'best coffee Dunedin', & Governor's Cafe was closest to us at the time. Google didn't let me down. Warm and cosy with ample rustic seating. Great menu options and cabinet food. The wall art is incredible! So fun! Thanks team.

Went to Marbecks Cafe and Food store for lunch. Place was loud and tables felt like a free for all with no service, once a table was free it would be swarmed instantly. We ordered some cappuccinos, latte, flat white and some chips. Sandwiches and pies were on display and cold, likely ready to be nuked in the microwave which sounded and looked miserablel. The coffees were average nothing special. We all ordered medium sizes but got 3 different sized glasses for some reason, with some clearly more volume than the others even on the same drink. When asked the waitress about it she had an attitude and couldn't be more passive aggressive and condescending if she tried. Server at the counter also had a bad attitude and felt like a bully, how awful. Chips were okay and decent size, and came with aioli and tomato sauce. Seasoning was nice.

This place is good, can be hard to get a table but it has good cabinet food and have previously enjoyed the menu items. I don’t like how the coffee comes in a glass, too hot to touch but otherwise it was good.

I feel that this cafe offers the best food in town with the most affordable price. Located in the busy Wall Street Mall, it's a convenient place to have your lunch or tea/coffee break from your shopping. They also have a selection of cabinet food and fresh salads, even fantastic sweet treats. The cafe also has a shop that sells gourmet food, drink and kitchenwares. We always enjoy having lunch here. It has a very clean ambiance and the staff are very friendly and helpful. My favourite food to have here is either fish and chips or beef pasties with salad. You don't normally need to wait long for your food and drink to arrive. It can be a bit noisy since it's very popular among locals. But it's still my favourite place for lunch if I am around Wall Street or Meridian Mall. It's highly recommended if you are in town shopping with friends and want to have a spot of tea or lunch.

I love coming here for lunch whenever I’m visiting Dunedin. My favourite meal here is the seafood chowder - the best one I ever had. This place is quite popular especially during lunch hours.

No doubt some of the best cabinet food in Dunedin. For something sweet try the almond croissant, and if you’re after something savoury don’t look past the pork fennel sausage roll. Great value for a decent serving including a salad of your choice. Coffees have always been good, hot and cold, and the free sparkling water is also a nice addition. Sometimes the service can be a bit hit or miss, however the food and atmosphere make up for it.

Normally have a good experience here but today, matariki, was terrible, ordered the eggs Benny, they forgot to put bacon on! And rather then take them away and re do, they simply gave a side of bacon, while our eggs went cold and we waited....yes they were busy but forgetting the bacon? Oh my.... Also the eggs didn't smell right, and left a really bad plastic/metallic taste in my mouth, something definitely was not right, I have had the eggs Benny here before, and this was just awful.

Stopped by here for a quick coffee. The coffee was good and staff friendly. Very busy which is always a good sign. Very central as located in the Wall Street Mall. They also serve a lot of hot and cold food but did not try this during this visit. There is also a small shop which sells a variety of different food/cooking related items. Overall highly recommend this cafe to others.

Had a coffee on Sunday morning (10:40am). Wanted to have a trim FW but they said they ran out of trim milk? Offering alternative but without compensation (no charge for alt milk). If so, is there a reason why I take this option?

The staff are very friendly, fast service and very nice food and drink. Even though it was abit pricey but worth the money. Bagel Salmon was amazingly tasty. Fresh and my teenager loved it. Ice tea was perfectly made. Not too sweet and ice chocolate was great. Generous amount. Cheese cake is yum. They have a great match latte. Unfortunately they ran out that day. Omg the view is amazing especially sit by the window. What a beautiful view. If you are tourist. This place is great. Only downside is the parking.

One of the few cafes open beyond 3 pm. It’s a godsend, open till 9 pm. I especially loved the chilli rolls and the iced coffee. And to top it all, the view from there is fantastic. Can’t wait to try it out after dark.

Terrible. The service was terrible the food was terrible. The plate my food came on was dirty and they covered it up with sauce I didn’t ask for. They even tried to justify their actions. They made me feel as if everything was my fault and yes I am a fussy customer but when one pays $28 for scrambled eggs and bacon you better be sending out the best damn scrambled eggs and bacon. I ate it begrudgingly because I didn’t want to waste my money because of bad service. My coffee had little white specks in it which they blamed on the soy milk and then they told me if I wanted a coffee that I would have to have different milk!!!! I was told however after standing around waiting for someone to remedy the soggy toast that was under the scrambled eggs with shells in it that they would refund the whole meal, make me a new one and make me a new coffee. We had been there for almost 45 minutes so I didn’t want to be there any longer so I declined. It wasn’t about getting a refund or even getting a whole new meal it was about giving the very best service and food to begin with. So I would not recommend this establishment to anyone especially if you don’t want to come home and write a novel like the one I’m writing now about how terrible the experience was. The only good thing about this place was the company I was in and I was constantly apologizing to him for my pickiness. Don’t come here!!!! It is not good.

Beautiful food in the cabinets and you can order off a menu. The staff were welcoming. The view over the Harbour is stunning. Varied places to sit. Children's play area with seats for family in separate area. Would come here again.

Burger was a lot of fun, beef brisket with Mac & cheese. Food was quick for how busy the cafe was.

Great place for coffee and gathering! Their cinnamon roll is very nice, sofa and aromatic. We ordered a egg on toast, the little spicy scrambled makes the dish very unique. High recommend their coffee which is balanced and nice texture. Definitely will visit again.

Lunch at PRECINCT cafe at Otago Museum was exceedingly enjoyable, and quite possibly the best museum food I've had:EVER! Staff are warm, capable and make families, professionals and students welcome. With everything made on site, with thought AND skill, it was hard to make a choice from the cabinet (let alone the menu). Going back for the caramelized popcorn (served with coffee btw) was a no-brainer...

Nice renovation of the old museum cafe. Food was decent, wasn’t a fan of the brisket burger which was more like roast beef and flavourless, making it 5/10. I think the burger would be better with chicken. Halloumi roasted veg was a decent 8/10. Iced coffee was well made and presented, also enjoyed the popcorn. Service and atmosphere were both good. I wouldn’t return for the food but it’s a good pit stop for a coffee.

Another visit at this awesome destination and another glorious dining experience. The food, the ambience and the service all outstanding making it an ideal experience. We took our fancy visitors from Auckland to this beautiful place to prove a point that Dunners have some stunning eateries. This place is consistent with their service, food and coffees. Love how each dish is created with complimenting flavours and textures. We all loved what we tasted and our visitors couldn't be happier.

Absolutely delicious coffee - beautifully presented and while it was very busy and a long queue to order with a staff member in training, service was fast! Lots of table options for larger or smaller groups and I found a power outlet to charge my phone which was handy. The food looked amazing & we can highly recommend the lamb & almond sausage roll. Pricing also reasonable and would return alongside a visit to the museum for sure!

Delicious menu and great coffee , we had the beef cheek Benedict and the pork belly and a chicken flatbread from the cabinet. Will be returning soon to try some more of the menu ☺️

Mixed feelings about this place now, after many years of it being so good. New owners have changed the coffee, ending a long association with Fat Cat (the original owners), and the coffees, and service were all pretty uninspiring. Will try again when the weather's nicer, but the place seems to have lost it's vibe.

Love the coffee here but the food wasn't that great. Ordered eggs on toast and got one really small piece of bread (like it was hardly toasted at all) which was absolutely soaked with margarine, soggy, it was like a sponge. Not a nice taste. One egg tasted fishy? Lovely smoky bacon though.

We like it alot and visit at weekends. The courtyard is cheerful and green and as close to street art as you can get. Yesterday there was a cute labradoodle. The staff are great. The free fizzy water is a bonus.

Despite its popularity the cafe managed to maintain a bustling yet cozy atmosphere. Had egg Benedict and corned beef, cappucino for breakfast. Corned beef was really tasty and filling. It's definitely stands out as one of the busiest cafes in town. .

These people so kindly made me a coffee and heated what is probably one of the better date scones I’ve ever had at 2:55 pm five minutes before the closing sign on the door they were happy to serve me. And then even serve two ladies for coffees after 3 pm maybe it’s a little thing but that is stunning Service. I will be back great place to support people

Just one thing maybe could help with the owner is that I visit two times for a coffee and each time was different price but same coffee. Then I send my son to get me a same coffee in a different day but my surprise also different price of the same coffee. Would be good if the price of the coffee consistent. 1st visit : $6:40, 2nd visit is $6:90. 3rd visit $6:80.

We would never go back. Very expensive breakfast, very average, scrambled eggs were awful 😖 French toast, not enough maple syrup, they need to bring a little jug of syrup so the customer can decide how much they want. You can go to Nichols and get the most delicious breakfast for 3 people for alot less than $104.

What used to be gourmet amazing and delicious is now budget ordinary bus stop grade food, for the same price, its offensive. The staff are terrible too, it is just business and absolutely zero care or rapport of customers. Very sad indeed

Nice beautiful cafe inside a garden centre. Great selection of food and great coffee. Fairly priced coffee and cabinet food. Pretty much always open even during public holidays. Plenty of tables inside and outside, can accommodate large group. Dogs and kids friendly. Has a very nice fully sheltered play house, perfect for wet weather.

I went because a Dunedin group meet regularly and I was interested to compare it to the Nicols in Chch. I was pleasantly surprised to see it is just as popular so going early is advised, the food is great and the customer service above fantastic. I had three food items, two from the cabinet and one from the menu. The scrambled eggs I wish I could do the same at home but they were so yummy I nearly ordered more. The club sandwich really nice and the slice I took away I enjoyed at my leisure after dinner. The hot chocolate was good, so a really enjoyable time apart because our group was so large one long table and the cafe busy, hard to converse to hear others was the only negative but that happens in any cafe with large groups. I shall return.

Nice food, friendly and helpful staff. Was very busy though, had to queue. The chicken salad was nice but had a lot of raw spinach in it. Chicken and mushroom pie was delicious. Vegetable Rosti stack is delicious too for a snack/small meal

Always busy, great food. Happened to visit on a Wednesday around 11.30, busy as all hell. I think it must of been pension day.

I looked forward to meeting with my sisters and shouting my mum out for lunch. The cafe was busy, which we expected, and had no issue waiting in line to order. After a significant wait, our lunch arrived, and i was absolutely flabbergasted to see mums $23 meal arrive! It was ½ dozen small mushrooms in a watery sauce, beneath some leafy greens. $23 !! After lunch we headed home where my 84 year old mother cooked herself some scrambled eggs!!

We had lunch here, nicely presented food at reasonable prices were offered. The Cafe is situated ibside the centre with seating offered in the plant section which would be lovely on a summer day 🙂 ... even found a very nice plant on sale as a thank you present.

We stopped in for a coffee and a snack. We had a yo-yo biscuit and a chicken, bacon & mushroom pie, including two coffees for $34. The coffee was good and the pie was the best we’ve had after two weeks in NZ. It was pretty full of good quality meat, with a little sauce, rather than vice-versa which can be common in our experience. The place was busy with a nice vibe/atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

A real nice cafe with magnificent view of the St. Clair beach and the ocean. It's located in the vacinity of the Salt water pool, so it's convenient for those who want coffee or lunch while waiting for their beloved ones finish their swimming. The staff are very friendly and the food are very nice both in the menu and the cabinet. This place can be quite popular due to its location especially on Sunday morning or in a hot summer day. They have all day menu such as Egg Benedict, Big breakkie and bagels. They also have assorted baked stuff such as Cinnamon rolls. The coffee and hot chocolates here are nice. One of a few places in Dunedin where I can actually taste the chocolate in the hot chocolate. I highly recommend this place if you are around St. Clair area. I know there are a few nice places around but this place offers both nice food and drinks as well as a good vibe of the lovely ocean view.

Beautifullly situated cafe ! - the most lovely view of rhe Beach and waterfront. Could sit for hours but had eaten the steak, bacon pie too quickly! It's a cosy environment and best seats at definitely away from the door, especially on cold days! Although the owners were quick to close the door when someone forgot to close it. The service was superb!

It was a beautiful day in St. Clair. I was out filming and needed my coffee fix. I grabbed a mocha and a brownie—and just like that, this place became one of my favorites. If you’re into good coffee and come from the surf culture, this spot is a must

The long dog is in an ideal location with a beautiful view of St Clair beach. The food is delicious and handmade however the service is subpar. We hadn't even finished eating and the staff were attempting to move us on by trying to clear up our plates. I understand it was a busy time but sitting down at a café isn't fast food.

This is the place on the esplanade to be 😎if you want a master-class in customer service and great NZ food+hospitality this is it! Been on the esplanade a number of times now while working in Dunnerz and this has become a local fav of mine.

Quaint little place. Very cosy. Nice coffee and food seemed reasonably priced. Service would've got a 5 star if we didn't have to wait several minutes while the lady cleaned behind the counter. Perhaps she thought she was giving us time to think about the menu when we only wanted a hot drink each.

As a person who mostly goes around drinking latte, this place features one of the best and most consistent latte! I've been there 7 or 8 times and was never disappointed. The latte has a very mild yet pleasant caramel-ish aftertaste to it without the bitterness. As for food I went twice for thier grilled confit mushroom sandwich and it was awesome as well. Highly recommended for the good food and good 'people' (other than the friendly baristas, Peoples is also the brand of coffee beans they are using). Photos are from 2 different visits featuring the same food and drink.

Vegetarian options (probably vegan too). Delicious breads and great looking pastries - it was hard to choose between them! Beautiful space with a seated area too - it’s not just a bakery front! Really enjoyed the food (I bough from the ‘cabinet’ area - I haven’t tried from the menu).

The food here was great! We loved the spicy pork sandwich and the halloumi toast. I also ordered a cookie but we ate it before we could take a photo, I think that speaks volumes about how good the cookie was. 🍪

Awesome little bakery with an impressive range of pastries etc as well as a delicious looking dine in menu, most of which is vegetarian. It was a struggle to decide what to have! I loved their cardamom bun and also grabbed a pain au choc to go which was brilliant too. I’d literally come back to Dunedin just to eat here again, so I’d highly recommend.

I found they made authentic desserts and visited again with my partner. I was stunned once more! The sandwich was massive and full of fresh ingredients. The salami, parsleys, ham, cheese, baby spinaches and handmade bread! The best ever! I couldn't even finish it over there and fetched it for dinner as well. When it comes to dessert, I've tried cardamom roll, pan au chocola, brown butter cookie, mascapone chocolate tart. None of them disappointed me. Every single thing was authentic. You can see different range whenever you visit then you can't be sick of their menu. Especially, brown butter cookies, it's fabulous when you have it a bit cool. The butter flavour is flooring at every bite and half the cookie is chocolate. Highly recommended and will definitely visit again

Ordered the cardamom scroll, cinnamon pull a part and salad sandwich. Can honestly say this was the best salad sandwich I've ever had, thick and full of various different vegetables, sauces and haloumi which all blended together wonderfully in some amazingly crunchy and chewy bread. At $12, an absolute bargain! The other items as expected were also amazing for our drive back to Queenstown and thoroughly enjoyed them even a few hours later. A must visit for any bakery loving persons in Dunedin!

Had to return 2 days in a row for breakfast, oh my gawdd!! I think I could eat here every single day of my life, it's that good! All the cabinet food as well as menu items all incredible, especially the potato hash cake with salmon wow! And the take-away sandwiches what I would call a proper sandwich! there is a real craftsmanship and skill to making bread, probably the best I've tasted.

The cafe is pretty cute and has a rather warm atmosphere. They don't have too many food options, just the standard small bites and a small variety of drinks (smoothies, juices and coffee), but all are rather delicious. A good place to go to relax and take it easy.

For a tiny shop out of the way, the atmosphere as you enter is amazingly homely. Maybe the wall art or 'Pania of the reef" sitting on the counter. Most certainly the coffee! The best I have had in NZ. Now my favorite stop on saturday morning ❤

Splendid spot. The coffee is good, solid coffee made just the way you like it, however you like it. We were warned about how good the rolls are, but let me tell you: they were even better. Top all that off with a bright, inviting atmosphere, bang-on music, and a genuine, charming owner/operator working hard to create an inviting community space and you've got a winner. 10/10 all around. Accessible seating available with small manipulation, though tight quarters when busy. Outdoor seating available. Sensorily busy space, but it is repetitive and grouped rather than eclectic. Affordable pricing.

J and Suzie are fantastic hosts and the coffee is superb. Grab a bag to take away and enjoy at home but you will return for the great atmosphere

Amazing, went there twice, once for dinner and again for lunch. I had really good burger called a Nova burger, was delicious! Emerson's beer selection is fantastic. Went back the day after and had an injected donut. Was really good! A really novelty and delicious to boot! Very recommended. Just make you book first!

Good place to have a good breakfast to start the day. Very friendly staffs and they are helpful. In the afternoon, there are variety choices of cakes for tea time. Good Earl Grey tea served here.

Excellent entrees and desserts here. Desserts are the best, containing both classics and creative dishes. I can't justify paying the full price for the mains, as they are underwhelming and somewhat boring. Food and drinks came out very quickly, even though the restaurant was full before a show at the Regent Theatre. Water refills were somewhat slow though. Ideal location in the Octagon

Came in for a cheap Wednesday burger. Had onion rings for a starter then a chicken burger. Enjoyed the burger and fries, honestly nothing to write home about. But a good feed and a nice place with a chill atmosphere.

The Black Dog impressed everyone in our party in every way possible. It was a fantastic Sunday brunch. A great layout where we had a very private space. The food was amazing at a reasonable price. The staff were so nice and our every need was catered for. The server remembered my friend who hasn't been there in a while. After a lovely time aa we departed, the chef took the time to meet us, and he was busy. Highly recommend to all.

We got takeaway, but the inside dining wasn't too busy. The food was amazing, bigger than we would have thought too! The veggie burger and the chicken filo were so good! Fresh, hot, and filling! Definitely on the expensive side for what we got but was totally worth it, they also have cakes and pastries inside! Fast and a great choice!

Nice staff, delish food, I tried the souffle omlette and was stunned at the huge size of it. This place as a range of seating, tables of 2 to 12, also couches to relax on and bar stools. Lots of space and am enjoyable place to dine in at.

Long overdue doing a review for The Black Dog. I have a regular once a month dinner with some friends here. The food is always top notch, cooked perfectly and alterations to any meal has never been an issue. The service is always quick, they've never gotten an order wrong and nothing is ever an issue or a problem when asking for changes to food, or for additional cutlery, plates, etc. Highly recommend the Black Dog as a place to go for a good range of food, good service and a good place to catch-up with family and friends

The food was great, and the service was also nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Crumbed mushroom as starter will mouthering your mouth. Will come back next time to try other menus. Plenty of tables, there's chair, bar stool and couch.

We were seated very promptly at lunch time, and the menu clearly states what can be made gluten-free. The young man serving us got us an extra plate when we said we would be sharing food without needing to be asked. He was also knowledgeable when I asked about where they sourced their gluten free bread from. We had the gluten-free French Toast, and the bread was nice and tall white bread and the bacon was nicely crispy. We also enjoyed some coffee and a GF Macadamia White Chocolate Caramel Slice (which I recommend!)

Very great place for outing with friends or family. Good good , great service and there are in door outdoor tables. Staff was very friendly and great. Food was quick and tasty. After lunch we went for a walk around Wal's. Plenty of park. Not far from Dunedin. And recommends for family with kids.

Lovely food also have good gluten free options. So yummy and afterwards look around the park. There is a tiny railway and a hedge maze. Great coffee. Can get a bit noisy when full on hard services but there is outdoor seating.

My favourite place to eat in Mosgiel! The food is very nice and fresh. I can't remember I ever feel disappointed with their food. The staff are so friendly and accommodating. Make sure you make a reservation especially in the weekend. This place is very popular because it's attached to Wal's Plant Land. It's basically a family entertainment in one spot... mini golf, mini train and maze! Do come here to enjoy family activities, a nice meal and buy something for your garden!

I went here for lunch over the Labour weekend and the whole experience was brilliant. The outdoor seating by the lake is stunning and the perfect place for a relaxing lunch. The waiting staff are friendly, professional and add to the whole experience. The food was lovely and I have zero complaints. This is a wonderful cafe and intend to return!

The food was fresh and delicious. Chips and tiny gravy jug are 10/10. Highlight of the entire brunch were the coffee’s ( Hot and cold ) ☕️. The coffee’s were fantastic, barista did a fantastic job. We used this event for a quiz night with a group I am a member of. Great food and atmosphere as usual! Always love a breakfast here. I would highly recommend that, but it was nice to experience the evening here. We had a platter, which I don't think is on the usual menu. I always bought a cap for my partner, which he loved! Great spot!

We recently celebrated my sister’s 21st at Joe’s Garage in Dunedin, and I just wanted to give a big shoutout to the team for making the night so special. The service was absolutely incredible, especially from the bartenders Lewis and both Calebs who were working that night. Their energy and friendly attitude truly stood out and made a great night even better. They absolutely deserve recognition for their outstanding service. Thanks team!

I was expecting good things like I have had in the past from Joe's garage in other locations. Bit let down, food took way too long to come out, was not a bust Tuesday. When it did the chips were cold. I ordered the chicken schnitzel, it was meh to a maybe OK but not presented well and was just the chips and a piece of schnitzel a plate, not even a side salad or garnish. It was not rustic but just thrown on the plate with what felt like little care or passion for food. The garlic butter sauce was zero garlic and 100% salt. Ordered a drink before the meal but the empty glass just sat on the table and no one came to ask if I would like a refill, would have ordered 2 or 3 more. Missed opportunity for some extra revenue. Left disappointed and gone to another bar to have a drink. Don't think I would go back. Maybe a different Joe's..... 😔

Rung earlier and booked a table as well as our food for 6.15pm, I specifically asked for the food to be ready on the table at the same time as this was our tea break. I had to ask at 6.25pm, how far away was our chips and pesto bread we pre ordered and the guy said about 20 metres away trying to be funny. He knew we weren't impressed by his comment, he did return and say your food will out out in 2 minutes, 5 minutes later it finally arrived, so we had to rush n eat, grab a doggy bag and get back to work. He wasn't bothered at all. I went to pay, I did say I wasn't impressed with the service, didn't enjoy dinner at all as it was so rushed. Very disappointing and Huge Fail.

We had an unfortunate experience dining at Copper. We booked a first table, only to realise on arrival that the menu was different to what they had advertised on First Table. Not to mention the menu for all 3 of us was one single printed piece of paper that had things crossed off and prices changed. No drinks menu. We ordered two pizzas and the tacos. The pizzas were terrible, thin and over floured with no taste, badly melted cheese and sauce tasted store bought. The tacos weren't much better. The hot chips were alright. Overall the experience was not good and we won't be coming back. Also while writing this review almost all of the dishes google asked me to select to recommend on here don't exist on the current menu.

Had the steak, served with potato gratin (undercooked), carrots (overcooked) beans (undercooked) steak was fine at best. Chicken wasn't the best seasoning and taste wise, the salad side wasn't bad. Menu doesn't describe what the food is served with. Starters are fine but not sure what exactly was in it. Had to wait a while for mains despite only 3 tables eating at the time. Better off going to balmac around the corner.

Place used to be so good, went back recently to get a few takeout coffees two of which were with coconut milk, when I got home though, my brother and I realised that the two coconut lattes were made with blue milk despite paying the extra 1 dollar for the alternative milk. It was fine as none of us have allergies but could become a serious problem if you do have bad allergies.

unfortunately one of the worst restaurant experiences we have ever had. it took us over an hour to recieve our meals which were missing half the ingredients as they had 'sold out' of half of the food on the menu despite being one of only a handful of tables in the restaurant. not a single thing was seasoned, vegetables were boiled with no salt, fish with no seasoning or sauce. the one positive was the lovely waitress who was extremely remorseful for what we were served yet was there alone with noone to help her whilst struggling with the many obvious challenges. the pricing was extremely high for what was served, even if the portions had not been reduced. one piece of cold brocoli and half a carrot alongside half of a fish fillet for 36 dollars is unbelievable. a small reduction of 14 dollars off an over 200 dollar bill to compensate for the experience. suffice to say we did not stay for dessert and were glad we didn't order starters. recognizing the place is very new to dinner service, we hope there are some rapid and significant improvements made before we would even consider recommending this to anyone else. PS the waitress was awesome and she should be very proud of herself.

Such a cute quaint little cafe, I love the decor with all the antique furniture. The cup and saucer sets that the coffee goes in are lovely. The coffee itself was okay, but due to the antique style cups which aren't very big there was only really a mouthful of coffee to sip on. I found a hard time picking from the cabinet food as there was nothing labeled as to what each item was. There was also no menu to see what other food and drink options there were. Some of the tables were a bit crowded with decor so it was hard to find space for coffee and my plate of food.

Been interested in this place for a while, and finally got around to trying it. Cozy atmosphere with a great amount of sunlight, food was good. Ordered some coffee along with corn fritters with salmon and scrambled eggs with bacon on toast, and the eggs were done perfectly. Definitely want to come back here to try their dinner menu

Food was 10/10. Steak was perfectly cooked and was very nice. Med/Rare. Burger was huge and very tasty. Jalapeño bites were very nice. Service was 10/10. Very friendly and chatty and happy to make small changes. They do first table too now so good savings. We had sides, mains and drinks.

The food surpassed our expectations, ordered "big breakfast" and it was delicious. Chicken tender wrap was okay. Coffee was stimulating. This cafe has a spacious place and great view from upstairs ( especially morning). Cafe close to the University is a great spot for get together.

Had dinner here at 7pm on a Friday. Was very quiet, great service, the food was outstanding for the price. Staff were very friendly. Highly recommend. The Kumara fries with aioil 👌🏼🤤 the beef and bacon burger also was very filling.

First impressions of Oaken are good but with room for improvement. Most of the tables are upstairs, so if you have trouble with these, you are probably best to go in a quiet time. There is one table downstairs and outside seating when its fine. I was served on arrival and was the only one in line at 9 am. I was quite surprised at how long it took for my order to arrive. It took 18 minutes for the tea and 25 for the food. The food was fine, but I felt like a little chutney or hollandaise would have gone well with it. I asked for a side of hollandaise, the staff member was happy to help but then carried on clearing tables before going to get it. That sounds a bit petty, but it's those little things that make you feel looked after at a hospitality venue. The atmosphere sells this place. I was left with the feeling that what they were doing was more important than serving the customer, but at the same time, they were friendly and polite. You are upstairs watching the morning traffic and leafy gardens through floor to ceiling windows. It's a nice space. I'll come back if I'm in the area.

Absolutely beautiful food and coffee. I had a keto butter chicken pie yesterday and it was one of the best pies I’ve ever eaten. So much chicken breast in it. I came back today for more but sold out so instead I had the lamb salad and was divine. I highly recommend this wonderful cafe.

Fantastic experience here and a wonderful breakfast on our road trip around the south island of New Zealand. Very friendly staff and the food was really nice, great presentation and great quality. Highly recommend if you are in the area. Thanks again from Australia 🦘

Wow fantastic breakfast and amazing staff! I had the corned beef and bacon Ciabatta sandwich..oh my goodness so delicious. Best cuppa I've had in ages to top it off. Thanks Will recommend!!!

One of the greatest and busy cafe in the Mosgiel. U can find variety of cabin food and best coffee here. First time I tried Butter milk chicken, it's quite different.

What a wee treasure to find on our south island trip, so glad we detoured to Mosgiel, fabulous food, awesome staff, highly recommend the visit
