The One Bull is a family-friendly pub located in the heart of Bury St Edmunds, known for its stylish rustic-chic interior and own-brew beer. It is part of the Gusto Pronto family and has been featured as one of the best UK pubs for Sunday lunch. The pub offers a variety of delicious drinks and food, including its own brewed beer from the craft brewery, Brewshed.
Business lunch for 3, parking just across the road, busy, but we were lucky to grab a space. We'd reserved a table just in case it was busy with Christmas lunches. Service was very friendly, and table service nice and efficient. We chose 2 of the chicken (thigh) burgers, and a sandwich. Nicely presented and really tasty, nice sized portions for lunch. Would reccomend!

I've been in this restaurant for dinner during a business trip. We had our food pre ordered during the day so once we got there we didn't have to wait much. I had the whipped goats cheese, pickled beetroot, candied almonds as starter and the smoked haddock & pea risotto, bacon crumb, crispy poached egg as main, they were both very good. The interiors are very elegant, overall a really nice place.

I visited last night with my friend and wow! The service was outstanding. What an amazing waiter….So friendly, professional and helpful. Food was so amazing. Atmosphere was so calm & relaxed. Beautiful inside. Highly recommended a visit! 11/10 from me ❤️
Natasha C — Google review
I visited this pub/restaurant on a busy Saturday evening. The atmosphere was good and we were greeted warmly by the staff. There were a good selection of dishes, not just the standard food we tend to see nowadays in restaurants. My starter, which consisted of two small oxtail cakes and a sauce was exceptional. They also make their own beer which I tried and enjoyed and, in my opinion, takes the place to the next level. Service provided by Jonny was also of note. He told he was new to the restaurant but acted like a seasoned professional regularly checking we were satisfied and engaging well in conversation with a good sense of humour despite being very busy. A good enjoyable evening.

Very enjoyable meal in an old British pub setting at Bury St Edmunds on Angel Hill. Plenty of seating and very pleasant staff. Atmosphere is a little noisy so they would benefit from some additional sound baffles. But overall it's a great venue and experience.
Simon C — Google review
Enjoyable evening. The Beef and Brewshed Ale Pie was delicious. The pastry was so good. All four of us went for this option. Our server was very knowledgeable on the beer and wines that were available. Desserts went down a treat. The Chocolate Water Mousse with Blackberry Compote was very rich and totally tasty. The Sticky Toffee Pudding was light and the sauce not overly sweet, as they can sometime be. Both were particularly enjoyed. All in all a very enjoyable meal, with friendly, enthusiastic and attentive staff.

Lovely last minute dinner after coming from the rugby club late doors. Atmosphere food and service was amazing. I would definitely come back
Annalise K — Google review
The service was amazing, the staff were very attentive and checked on us at just the right moment. The food was good but the sauce on my ribs was just too salty. The atmosphere improved when a rather large group of rowdy women had gone. Bar staff were good and everyone was welcoming. Great service !

Pub
Oakes Barn is a community-oriented free house with a cozy atmosphere, offering a variety of seating options for patrons to relax and savor a satisfying Sunday lunch. The menu features locally sourced dishes such as Scotch eggs, soup of the day, battered mushrooms with garlic mayonnaise, Halloumi fries, and prawn, feta and melon salad.
We've only ever visited and had drinks so thought we'd give food a go when looking for somewhere to have a Sunday roast! Definitely worth booking as a number of tables were reserved. Great location on edge of town centre, with cosy courtyard area to the front and comfortable bar / restaurant inside. Prices are really good with a decent portion served at great value. We had 2 roasts (1 large pork and 1 small lamb) and a ham, eggs and chips, with a side of cauliflower cheese. Update (June '24) - Visited again today and again, visit was all good. This time I went for Roast Pork and once again was a lot of food but definitely worth it! Food was out quite quickly and all really tasty and fresh. This place is also dog friendly so that's an added bonus. Highly recommend 👍

I had asked Paris in Wright's restaurant on Friday where would be a good place to have a decent Sunday lunch. Oakes Barn or the Mason's Arms said she. Oakes barn responded to me first, so won the gig. So a splendid meal ensued, a large helping of roast lamb (£15.95) with nice roasties, a bowl of four perfectly cooked vegetables, a huge jug of lovely gravy and lots of mint sauce in a little pot. (I was delighted it wasn't in a sachet, unlike the pepper, which was. The only disappointment was a limp and cold Yorkshire pudding. I was surprised nobody came to ask if everything was OK or to try and upsell the £6.50 puds. Starters, by the way are £7.50 and cauliflower cheese, as an extra to the main course, is £2.95. The downstairs loos are smelly and need a revamp. But the main event was just the job.

Absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch. The food was absolutely delicious and great value, as the portions were very generous! Good range of beers and ciders. Great service. Kids and dogs welcome.

We attended the Feb Foodie Themed Evening and enjoyed every aspect. All of the staff contributed to a wonderful experience. Thanks go out to the Chef who accommodated a special respect within his set menu , the food was delicious and the themed menu was comprehensive and on point. Thanks Oaks Barn for a Great Evening
John R — Google review
Great food and atmosphere, but disappointed with customer service I’ve been to Oakes Barn several times, and honestly, their burgers are among the best I’ve had in England. The beer selection is excellent, and the atmosphere is always welcoming — it used to be one of my favorite pubs. However, during my last visit with my wife, we had a disappointing experience. We pointed to the beer she wanted, but the server brought a different one. When we mentioned the mistake, the response was simply that it was too late and nothing could be done. As regular customers, this felt dismissive. My wife was left with a beer she didn’t enjoy, or I was expected to pay for something we wouldn’t drink. I understand the business side of things, but I’d never expect someone to consume something they didn’t want, and it left a bad impression. That said, the food and drinks are still great — I just hope they handle these situations with more flexibility in the future.

Nestled within the historic Angel Hotel, The Eaterie @ The Angel Hotel is a chic dining destination that has earned accolades for its culinary excellence. This restaurant takes pride in crafting innovative dishes using locally sourced ingredients that showcase the finest produce from Suffolk. Diners can indulge in an array of delectable options, such as pan-fried scallops paired with cauliflower and black pudding or savoring roast loin of salt marsh lamb accompanied by spring vegetables and rosemary poached potatoes.
We had a lovely afternoon at the Angel. The staff really made our experience a memorable one. The food was, as always, exceptional with clean plates being sent back on every course. The service and food are both high quality but delivered in a casual and friendly way. The bar opposite the restaurant area is also a nice place to head to for amazing cocktails after your meal. I thoroughly recommend the Eaterie at the Angel Hotel.
Simon R — Google review
Although I am far from being impecunious I couldn't help but feel a little over decadent after my recent midweek lunchtime meal at the Angel Hotel in Bury St. Edmunds. The cost of my single course meal alone was probably more than some people have to spend for their entire week's food bill. Their 10 oz sirloin steak was £38 and only came with 1 mushroom, 4 baby tomatoes and a small pot of peppercorn sauce and sorry I forgot one onion ring! To add a portion of tender stem broccoli and some chips to this was yet another £14. By the time you add a service charge, this brings your total for just one course to nearly £60! I appreciate that you have to pay for quality but I couldn't help but be left feeling that this was a hard to justify over extravagance, which detracted some of the joy away from the actual meal, especially as I had an equally good steak at the Tickell Arms in Whittlesford recently with all the trimmings for less than half this cost. By the time we added two glasses of wine to this, another £28, we were left having to share an extremely delicious chocolate mousse with raspberry sorbet between us, another £12, to avoid bankruptcy proceedings being instigated. Despite questioning the cost with the waiter I was merely told that I could always choose something else from the menu if I so wished. Perhaps I am now dining at establishments above my station in life. I have always enjoyed eating at the Angel but I can't help but now feel that their prices have become a little rich for my blood and that in future my visits will unfortunately have to be very limited if I am to remain solvent.

Lovely elegant atmosphere. Afternoon Tea was delicious with a good selection and endless tea or coffee. Service was excellent with a birthday card given to the Birthday Girl. Definitely recommend it for a special occasion.

Wonderful evening in the beautiful vaults, lovely setting for private parties & dinner. We had the smoked haddock fishcake, which was delicious, followed by slow braised feather blade beef, which was great! All the staff were absolutely top-notch, highly recommend.

I have had afternoon tea a few times now. First time was for my birthday, the second was for our anniversary. Both times we were made to feel very special. Had cards and a little desert to help us celebrate our special day. The staff are amazing, the food is of exceptional quality and the atmosphere is always very welcoming and cosy. Would 100% recommend the Angel Hotel to anyone. And I do !!!

Thoroughly enjoyed our two night mini break. It's had a major upgrade/refurb since our last visit a few years ago - has a fabulous atmosphere & looks & works beautifully. Service couldn't be better & staff are really friendly, nothing is too much trouble. Jasmine, one of the managers, is very hands on, super efficient & friendly - & great at making sure all runs smoothly. Will look forward to our next visit.

The Corn Exchange - JD Wetherspoon is a remarkable 19th-century building with a rich history, having been originally designed as the Corn Exchange in 1862. After a refurbishment by JD Wetherspoons in 2012, the pub has retained much of its original character and charm. It offers an extensive selection of beers, ales, ciders, wines, spirits, and cocktails.
I had another enjoyable meal today at Wetherspoon. As a vegetarian, I tend to stick to the same dish—and it never disappoints. The food was well-prepared, and as always, I paired it with a glass of Pinot. The venue itself is spacious with a relaxed atmosphere. I also appreciated the clean WC facilities—always a plus. Consistent, reliable, and good value.
HeyBlank — Google review
There is a real 'wow' factor as you enter the first floor of the Corn Exchange. It is a huge barn of a place and was packed to the rafters early on Saturday market day lunchtime. I perused the menu on the Wetherspoons app, only to discover that every single recently introduced Gourmet Burger had sold out. Ditto the new on the menu steak and ale pudding. The duty manager, who cleared my table, said 'they hadn't expected all the new items to sell out'. So I settled on an 8 ounce sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce and all the trimmings. With a bottle of alcohol free Stella, it was just £7.49. Remarkable value. Not only that, the steak was cooked perfectly to the medium I had specified, the pepper sauce was really nice, the chips freshly cooked and both my drink and the food was on the table in the time I'd been to 'powder my nose'. Don't know why I thought of that - it was my dear old mum's expression. Anyway, despite the varied reviews for this branch of 'Spoons', I cannot fault it at all. Well done to all concerned.
Michael S — Google review
Had to review my review again as I feel something has changed for the better. The quality of the food that's coming out of the kitchen has improved. The plates are not as cold as previously stated in my last review of the place. Staff are and have always been friendly and helpful and the only thing I can say is I do miss when someone used to come to my table and ask if everything was okay with the meal. The removal of this personal touch has probably been made from way up above but it was nice and at times important. Overall I think the establishment is working constantly to improve their standards and that deserves a few more stars.
Nigel K — Google review
What a lovely old building. Couldn't believe it was a Spoons from the outside. The pub is upstairs and it's equally magnificent inside. Enjoyed a nice pint here and marvelled at the intricate details of the building.
Pete D — Google review
I was pleasantly surprised. My buffalo burger was done very nicely and was actually spicy. Like other wetherspoons, it had quite a large menu, very well priced and is in a lovely building.
Maggie C — Google review
Even though it was very busy, Bailey and the other staff ensured our visit was enjoyable. Bailey went over and to above to clear and clean our table and made sure we had everything we needed. We hope she can be recognised for this excellent customer service.
Nicola C — Google review
Simply the most beautiful spoons this side of the Appalachians. My goodness it's worth it simply to see the inside. On top of that, it's clean with good staff. Hell, when we were there, even the sauce sachets were arranged to be all facing the same direction. Now that's over and above the call of duty.

Edmundo Lounge is a charming and cozy restaurant located in the heart of historic Bury St Edmunds. It offers a diverse menu with global comfort food options, including an impressive selection of vegan dishes. The restaurant's kitschy and intimate ambiance, complete with a patio, makes it an ideal spot for families and groups looking for relaxed dining.
Jocelyne the waitress was absolutely superb! amazing service! so lovely and caring for us and our family, she was so considerate coz she moved us to a bigger table to make our welcome even better, a star of a person! even got us a free drink as there was a problem with one of our drinks and made us feel welcome and happy. we will definitely be back due to the lovely vibe and atmosphere. we had a really good chat with her during our meal and was super postive and bubbly.

Went with friends and most of us managed to order on the app but one of the group of six just couldn't get it to work and had to order at the bar. It was very busy but not overwhelming. We managed to get a table pretty quickly despite not being able to book in advance. The food came out relatively quickly, and we all enjoyed it. There was a good variety of food from different countries, so everyone was able to find something they liked. Overall, it was a fun, gimmicky sort of place.
Simone C — Google review
Lovely to see another wonderful Lounge open. The location and building for this one is absolutely breathtaking, housed in an old bank in the lovely town of Saffron Walden. The menu is always excellent and top marks for keeping everything as it should be. We had brunch this time but they do food all day long and have specials in the week like tco Tuesday and I think burgers on Mondays? Will def come again!
Lisa D — Google review
The food is generally good. The restaurant has a pleasant vibe. The staff are nice. Our most recent visit we ordered burgers which were pretty good, bang bang chicken noodles which is my favourite dish here and sausage/chips/beans for our children. I had a side of spinach which seemed like it had been cooked in the sun or something, it was just completely dry and flaky 😅 not sure what they had done with it. I do have an issue with our latest visit, as my son who's 7yrs old was served his meal 15 minutes before the rest of us. We were only told this would be the case when they had brought his plate out. I queried the reason and the server said it had always been that way to serve children quickly so that they aren't waiting but it's never happened on any of our previous visits. I've heard of this practice but my son is 7yrs old, not a baby and at the same time they didn't do that for my daughter who is 9yrs old. It just seems very silly as he was completely finished in 15 minutes and then was left waiting anyway for all of us to finish so we kind of ended up rushing our meal and it defeated the entire point of having a family meal out together. We weren't having the food due to necessity, it was for a nice time. If it was urgency we would have simply grabbed a sandwich somewhere. So I wish the restaurant would address this and query individual customers at the time of taking an order, if they require this practice to occur.
V — Google review
Very nice place to eat try and drink as always especially as they are a chain but have been in several around the country. They have the same menu which is easier and all the cocktails are very good and reasonably priced. The food is also very good and so is the service, will always look out for a lounge bar when visiting a new place.
Wil W — Google review
This place is so filthy & needs addressing urgently! We went to eat & have a drink but after looking at how filthy the outside was, pigeon poo all on the floor & seats decided to pass! I had already wiped the table with a wipe and it was filthy. I truly believe this is why it is so dark inside, so you cannot see how dirty things are! Whoever is management they need to address this ASAP! It’s a disgusting filthy place….Tables overflowing outside & when I went inside to complain it was a) not busy and b) the female manager was not in the slightest bit interested! Seriously - Health hazard.
Natasha C — Google review
A busy and popular venue in a central location. We were in for brunch, a good range of options and the full English was great. I don’t like having to order at the counter in a restaurant setting, that’s the only reason I’ve marked service down a little. The waiting staff were very friendly and helpful. I’d certainly go back.

Went out for a dinner with a friend and found a new favorite place! The menu was full of fun names and lots of options. I couldn’t decide what to have so I asked our waitress, Courtney, she recommended the current specialty pizza and drinks. My new life motto is “when in doubt, ask Courtney” because SHE WAS NOT WRONG! The peach pizza was beyond delicious and the coordinating cocktail (honey and pear) was the perfect match with it. Currently trying to find a reason to go again tomorrow night! Thanks, Courtney!

"The Rose & Crown" is a fantastic traditional British pub located on the outskirts of the town center. It offers well-maintained cask ales and lagers, along with bar snacks. The friendly atmosphere extends throughout the main bar, back bar, and courtyard garden. Visitors praise its old-fashioned charm without sawdust and enjoy spending time in the pub garden during long nights.
Can only be described as a great British pub. Love, love, love this place. With all of the gastronomy, lack of personality pubs in this area, it was a refreshing visit in Bury. Staff, A*, pub dog, gorgeous, and drinks superb. Being able to sit at the bar, chat with everyone freely, from money to trades, this place outdoes everywhere locally for a true British experience. How it should be. A treasure to the trade.

This was the best place a solo traveller could have run into! I was just looking for a gentle nightcap after a delightful dinner and walked in to this incredibly friendly and welcoming group of people eager to talk to anyone who came through the door. The pub was warm, inviting, and full of banter -- I would have stayed all night if I could! I hope to visit again soon and reminisce about anything real and imagined just for the joy of talking about it over a pint. I still have their business card/token thing in my wallet to this day.

Lively Pub with local charm. Super friendly landlord and welcoming crowd. There was a cheese tasting for everyone and we were able to sample about 10 different cheeses. Great way to get to talk with the locals and enjoy the evening

Such a cute little pub. Love the atmosphere. They serve local beer as well as other beer. I had the 5X a special brew with 12% alcohol. Love it. It has a black coffee after taste. There were 2 lads playing darts and the pub was buzzing with some locals. Second visit to this pub while in Bury. Very friendly atmosphere. Didn't purchased food so can't tell about the food.

Fantastic traditional British pub on the outskirts of the town centre. Well maintained cask ales and lagers with bar snacks available. A friendly atmosphere throughout from the main bar, back bar and courtyard garden. We had our wedding reception here and could not thank Gordon and Claire enough for their hospitality.

Really nice pub that has a dart board! Prices reasonable compared to others in the area and all the staff and locals were exceptionally friendly!

Bar
The Nutshell is a charming Victorian pub located in the heart of historic Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. It proudly holds the title of the smallest pub in Britain, as confirmed by the Guinness Book of Records. The bar measures just 15ft by 7ft and has been serving customers since 1867. Despite its size, it has become a major tourist attraction for both local and international visitors.
This is the smallest pub in Great Britain with an area of just above one hundred square feets. The walls and the ceiling are full of strange furnishings, including banknotes from many different countries and a cage with a mummified cat. An absolute must vist when in Bury St Edmunds.
Francesco X — Google review
I didn't plan to come to, purportedly Britain's smallest pub, it was just a navigation marker en route to find the lift for the Wetherspoons at the Corn Exchange. Anyway I popped in, only to discover their soft drink and non-alcoholic beer options are severely limited. Plus I couldn't pay for my lemonade with my phone. 'Anything under £5 needs to be cash' the American woman tending the bar announced. So I departed. At least, as she said, I got the photos.

Wonderful little pub barmaid and regulars very friendly and make you feel welcome
John P — Google review
They brag about being the smallest pub, but they have the warmest atmosphere. Because it is so small you get the chance to interact with everyone and everyone was so welcoming and friendly. The landlord and patrons were the perfect ambassadors for the area. They provided insight to the local sights. Don't be put off by the small size as they do have outside seating and the character of the place makes it a great place to visit
David S — Google review
Obviously since it is small, seating can get tight but it is a good place to grab a beer and sit outside and people watch. Bartender was very nice!!!

Great fun having a pint at this one. Didn't realise Greene King beer started in this town. Friendly guys on the bar, helpful too.

Quirky but tiny, certainly not a session pub unless you’re happy to sit outside or get one of the few seats inside. Still worth going for a swift one or two for the experience.

Pea Porridge is a Mediterranean-influenced fine dining restaurant located in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. It holds the distinction of being the first and only restaurant in Suffolk to receive a Michelin star award, which it achieved in 2021. The restaurant is situated on what was once known as Pea Porridge Green and features a rustic setting with exposed brickwork and pine tables.
The food was absolutely impeccable. The venison with pumpkin was exquisite, and the quail — wow! Every bite was matched by the warmth and kindness of the staff. Wishing a very happy birthday to the chef — you made my birthday truly wonderful too!

The food here is always incredible, and everyone we have ever taken has loved it. The service is brilliant. Really couldn’t recommend it more highly.
DOMINIC P — Google review
Absolutely amazing meal, staff and atmosphere were brilliant. Despite being on the higher price point, every bite feels worth the money. Only comment would be that a couple of the plates that were given to us between dishes has some visible dirt or something on them aswell as being chipped on the corner. Not exactly the standard expected by a Michelin meal. But again only a minor point as this was overshadowed by the excellent food

St Edmundsbury Cathedral is a 16th-century Anglican church located on a medieval site. It features notable stained glass, a crypt, and font. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful tour of the cathedral and its 160ft tower with views over the town. The cathedral also houses the final resting place of French Queen Mary Tudor, sister of Henry VIII, at St Mary's Church.
If you are into churches, this is a must. The church itself is a very well maintained, and free to tour. But the grounds and the old ruins are what is very interesting about this church. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. I'm sure on the summer they are amazing. The town was very nice, lots of stores to visit.

An overnight stay in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk for a concert. The next morning we did some sightseeing including the cathedral. Must say I was impressed, by the staff as much as the building itself, they really were welcoming. No charge to go in but they do strongly suggest a donation. (we paid it by card, with gift aid, modern world). It's a church, so it won't be for everyone but I just found it attractive, and clearly used for community events, not just for worship. There is a Lego model of the cathedral, which is impressive for Lego lovers. In summary if you like places of worship, you'll love it.
David T — Google review
A beautiful cathedral inside and out, and with a rich history! Stunning views of the cathedral from the Abbey Gardens. Fascinating to think that today's cathedral once formed part of the Abbey, which now largely lies in ruins, but which was absolutely massive in scale. A must-see for history fanatics (and everyone else!).

This time the weather failed to show its English character - cold, rain and wind. 🤣 But, as they say - wet, rain is not afraid. 🤭You can see from the photos the gardens and ruins of the Benedictine monastery. ⛪ It was one of the largest and richest for its time in England. 😮 It stood here from its creation in 1020 until its collapse in 1539. I was very impressed by how the Main Norman Tower from the 14th century has been almost completely preserved. 😯 And from the gardens you can see the beautiful new cathedral. ⛪ Exceptional wood carving on the chairs and the organ. 👌 This town is the perfect place to escape with your family and friends and enjoy a pleasant walk... 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

The cathedral and surrounding abbey ruins and parkland are glorious add to this the medieval town, market and modern shopping centre there is something for everyone. I recommend booking the additional tower tour which includes fantastic views to all sides of the town from the top. Reasonably priced parking nearby.

Bury St Edmunds is renowned for its dog-friendly atmosphere, offering a plethora of accommodations, cafes, and attractions where your furry friends are welcome.
We booked a table for 25 in the evening and had a fantastic time. I was concerned that the food would take a while to come out for each course or it would be difficult for guests to remember which course they had ordered, but the staff had everyone’s names to hand, and the food for each course came out promptly and piping hot. The food was honestly excellent and everyone commented how good it was, alongside the attentive and friendly staff. Highly recommended for atmosphere, old English style pub, food quality and staff.

We had an excellent stay this weekend at The Dog and Partridge. The room was perfect and had been recently modernised, loved the rain forest shower! We also stopped for breakfast which was superb and great value. A big thanks to Adam and Francesca who went out of their way to make our visit a special one - will definitely be back.

I have just visited the Dog and Partridge for a couple of drinks and I was very impressed. I have had terrible experiences with Greene King pubs where the pints were flat and the service was awful but this place restored my faith! Jack on the bar was absolutely fantastic and his service was very good. He was polite and engaging, and showed genuine pride in his work. The drinks were chilled and gaseous, which is what you should expect as a given but every GK pub I have been in, the drinks have been so poor. The Fox, also located in Bury St Edmonds was an awful pub. The beer was flat and the service was shocking. Well done to all the staff at the Dog and Partridge, keep up the good work its much appreciated!

What a joke . Booked up today for a meal 5 people. On the website says it has a car park. The car park is a stamp. So when me and my guests couldn't park we couldn't go for our meal. Why can't the pub be truthful and explain the car park as limited spaces not make you think you can park there. Anyways the stupid pub lost out on over £100.00 on meals and drinks and we won't be going back . Shame on you Dog and Partridge.

We stayed here for one night (Sunday) The hotel is conveniently located close to the centre of Bury st Edmunds and next to the Abbey Gardens. The carpark is a decent size and we could park just outside of our room too. The rooms are all out side by the pub in an old barn conversion. The room was immaculately presented, lovely comfortable big bed, air con, all the usual amenities too. Plus a big bathroom with a bath. The team are super helpful and friendly and the food was delicious, lunch and breakfast. The beer garden is also great and has full sun. Glorious! We even asked If we could keep our car there after checkout while we did some more shopping. Not a problem! Very impressive and will be staying again! Thanks again!

We visited this place last week, myself, my partner and two children, we all loved our meals! Absolutely delicious… the waiter helped my children to make their decision with the chose of desert as they didn’t want any of the adult ones and helped with saying they could have a chocolate brownie and ice cream! … I had a signature burger which was absolutely Devine. The service was very quick and unique to the individual tables. We were absolutely delighted with our meals and also felt the bar was a nice area to grab a drink, if only we didn’t have the children lol! … do pay a visit, Adam behind the bar was very accommodating

Room was in a barn type structure to the side of the pub. It was a bit of walk from the train station. Check in was a bit strange, not much conversation. This pub was recommended by people at the Greene King brewery, as a place where Greene King beer is served well. It's ten minutes' walk from the brewery (which is closed on Sundays). The Masons Arms didn't disappoint. I just popped in for a quick Abbot Ale and it was beautifully kept, not a trace of sharpness, just full of flavour. You could see why this place won the Greene King award for Best Beer Pub 2023. The bar seemed nice--wood, with Victorian tiles on the floor--but I sat in the outside area, which was also lovely on a sunny day.

The Northgate is a charming boutique hotel located in Bury St Edmunds, offering luxurious rooms and upscale dining. Housed in a Victorian villa, the hotel has been elegantly refurbished with chic and modern touches. The property features a stylish restaurant and bar, as well as a beautiful garden with a Spring Garden Tipi for outdoor dining experiences. The 9 guestrooms are tastefully decorated and equipped with modern amenities.
There's nothing bad that can be said about the Northgate. Rooms are splendid, luxurious, and everything worked as it ought to, and was spotlessly clean. It's a shame the hotel no longer has its restaurant and bar and staff and reception and all the things that gave the place its terrific reputation in Bury St Edmunds, but alas they are gone. The hotel itself may soon disappear. It is for sale, and the very friendly cleaning lady told us that most of the potential buyers want to convert it to residential. That would be a shame, so stay there whilst you can!

Somewhat of a strange experience. It's less hotel, more Air b&b. It's an unmanned former hotel where you collect keys from an external key box and then let yourself come and go without seeing any staff. Fine for me, but this may not suit everyone. Excellent location for the centre of town, good sized, well appointed rooms and a reasonable amount of on site free parking.

Room looks magnificent, bed comfortable. But there's no water in the bathroom, hot or cold, there's no answer on the telephone when you call to ask them to sort it out, and there's no response to email. So disappointed that I can hardly begin to put it into words. No idea where I can go for a shower before attending a funeral this afternoon.

Beautiful meal had by the 4 of us. I had the beef cheek it was just stunning. Really good coffee too. The only criticism I would have is whilst the staff are all lovely and friendly they are not very 'attentive'. Don't do service checks, / ask if you need anything else / offer more drinks or check your drinks are coming when they can see you've been waiting. If they can nail that then 5 stars. I'd def recommend a visit and will go back.

Every single dish was delicious and all of our guests were extremely pleased. The service was fantastic from start to finish. I happened to chance upon the cocktail bar at The Northgate after this was recommended to me. The hotel is built in a Victorian house and you notice how lovely it looks inside as soon as you enter. I did not get an opportunity to stay in the rooms there or have dinner there though, but I did notice how well designed and decorated it looked as I walked in. At the bar, I was greeted by a lovely gentleman, who I’ve been told is David, the General Manager of the hotel. David asked me what my preferred choice of cocktail would be and when I mentioned a Sidecar, he instantly agreed to it with great enthusiasm and graciously made me a Sidecar which wasn’t even on the cocktail menu. And oh my, was it delicious! I was left so impressed by the fact that he’d agreed to make a drink which there was no need for him to agree to, or no expectation to even know of, but therein lies the skill of a mixologist, in my opinion. He offered a few other choices as well, but I wound up ordering the same again based on just how good it was. Thank you David, and well done, Northgate, you’ve got a keeper! The food was lovely, I had the plaice 2 ways and was very happy with the egg Custard tart! Interior was very nice and the temperature of the room was comfortable. The service was pretty good, and the only thing I would say is the toilets need some attention, but it wouldn't stop me from going back again!

Just wow! Stopped for a random lunch on a Sunday afternoon and I can't get over how amazing the food was!!! We had a beef roast, halloumi, fish and a chickpea salad dish. Presentation was super but above all, tasting amazing!!! Surroundings were so beautiful and service was fantastic. Thank you for a great experience, next time I'm in Cambridge, will definitely be visiting again!!

The knowledgeable staff is always ready to offer tasting advice without any pressure to purchase. Visitors can enjoy specialty products from niche suppliers at the in-store tasting bar.
I run a small mobile events bar for weddings and parties, so I need a lot of beer, wine and spirits. Tom and the team at Bury have always really helped me out, ensuring I get fast delivery, access to all the right stock and advice on the best products to stock. Always had good service from start to finish!

We had an exceptional visit to the Adnam's shop today. We were greeted warmly by the staff there and Tom in particular took us through various products. He was knowledgeable and professional. We were able to select a wide range of drinks and food to purchase. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend a visit to anyone near Bury at Edmunds.

Great visit to Adnams today. Tom was really helpful and courteous and I got everything on my shopping list. The tasting evening in September sounds brilliant.

My go to place for beer and wine. Can’t think of a bad beer that Adnams produce. Southwold bitter my favourite unless they bring back Spindrift - come on Adnams! Knowledgable and qualified staff are always happy to provide help and tasting advice. Talking of tasting, the in-store tasting bar is a great idea. Never any pressure for tasting to become buying. Drinks on offer are changed regularly and often include specialty products from niche suppliers. Keep it up guys. 👍

I had a problem with my mini keg of beer which I purchased for my family this Christmas. I e-mailed Adnams in Bury St Edmunds this morning (Christmas Eve) expecting a response post Christmas. The team was absolutely brilliant and I had a replacement delivered to my door (an hour away) 4 hours later! EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE - many thanks team Adnams. Hope you all have a great Christmas!

The lady working the bar was fantastic. We ordered 2 portions of fries with a side of gravy and it was Devine. We ended up drinking the gravy. Fantastic pub

Popped in for a bottle of wine & lunch. There was a 40 minute wait for food which we didn't mind at all. At least we knew it would be freshly cooked. It was really nice & good value for money although my wife's meal was barely warm. We didn't complain though. Typical old fashioned pub owned by Greene King.

This used to be my go to pub. I've been going there the last 20years for bands and Karaoke. In recent months I've stopped, the atmosphere isn't always great, this is emphasised by other punters coming in looking to cause trouble. Staff look fed up, so it's not a warm friendly welcome & the doorstaff, well you might as well have a manequin on the door. Sadly I've stopped going to my favourite pub because of this...

Bar
Queens Bar & Grill, located in the City Centre on Churchgate Street, is an independent smokehouse and bar that prides itself on its farm-to-fork concept. The menu features lamb and rare breed pork sourced from the Chef-owner's own smallholding.
We read online that Sunday roast is very popular in England and really wanted to try it. We picked the first restaurant we came across and ordered pork and smoked beef. Overall, it was quite tasty – the meat was served with potatoes, vegetables, and a small bread roll. The place had a nice, cozy atmosphere. Out of everything we’ve tried in England during our week of travelling, this was probably the most delicious.
Andreas K — Google review
Visited on Saturday (Easter Bank Holiday Weekend). Friends that had not seen each other for over 34 years - wrong place to visit as it was impossible to sit & talk over dinner. There was a huge group of dinners that were incredibly loud. Shouting & singing as was someone’s birthday. Not a party pooper but it was really not acceptable or fair on other people eating. They were basically screaming & singing at the top of their voices. Food was nice but not what I would call amazing. Meat was cooked lovely. Drinks (cocktails & non cocktails) were OK. Non alcoholic mojitos need working on and I did send the drink back once as didn’t taste like a mojito. The new drink was no different. Really hoping the experience (noise level) was a one off as it really did need addressing but when I looked towards the bar, all staff were just staring at the group…eventually the owner went over but it was a little late. It would have been better to address this as soon as it started. Would I visit again? Maybe..Bury St Edmunds has so much choice of amazing places to eat so would try them first…..
Natasha C — Google review
Sunday Roast Trial Interested in the Sunday roast outside Cambridge therefore entered this restaurant. The portions were not massive. But at least enough to feed. The beef was soft and tender. But I was struggling to use the knife to cut the beef apart. Biting is more efficient than the knife. The potatoes were hard outside. I strongly suggest you to soak the potatoes into the gravy first. Eating other items on the plate first, finish the potatoes finally. No need to worry about gravy, the restaurant provided a big pot of gravy for the Sunday Roast. Maybe the pork rib was not as good as the Smokeworks of Cambridge. But it was reasonable for its price and quantity. The environment was nice and clean. Clean and roomy toilet. The staff was nice. I'm just not happy about the service of the knife ;). Overall it's a good place in Bury St Edmunds. As a reminder, the district is lack of toilet facilities, that includes most of the cafes. It's inevitable to pick a restaurant.
Pui L — Google review
Very delicious food here. Really helpful staff with booking of a larger table, which can be done through the website and then email confirmation. Had starters and shared and the loaded fries were probably the best thing! Really sweet chicken strips and the belly pork bites were good as well. Takes American Express.
David M — Google review
Solid bbq spot. Recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. The burgers were the star of the show and I’d come back specially for that. The ribs and brisket was well cooked. The bbq sauce on the ribs is quite sweet and fruity. Personally I prefer smokey but that’s just me. Pulled pork very good too but heavily sauced so perhaps the meat doesn’t get to shine through as much. Again just personal taste. Mac n Cheese was ok but not amazing for my taste. Perhaps the only thing that was a bit of a disappointment. Chips are ok, fairly standard. Cheesecake was very good, only bettered by the now shut down Whipped in London. Also worth noting it got quite busy and loud with the Saturday evening drinkers coming in. But overall very good and definitely going back for burgers. Oh staff are really nice by the way.
Daniel H — Google review
I CANNOT tell you how good this place is. Mouth sex redifined. They've elevated what chips can be, the bbq meats have changed my life and the sticky toffee pud is enough to turn any Celiac. Forever in my heart Yours, Aaron

Went for a girlie Sunday lunch and it did not disappoint!!! Sunday roast is always hard when you can make a good one at home but this topped it! Crispy roast potatoes, well cooked veg, plenty of gravy and quality meat!! If you haven't visited and enjoy a roast it's worth the money! Staff also friendly and made sure our drinks were always topped up!

Went to watch football and get some food. But after trying to order food on 3 separate occasions and being rejected and told to come back after 5 to 10 minutes. Still unable to order everytime, if I had known this was the case we would have gone to a different pub or eaten at home. Bar man was rude too. If they didn't want to serve food they should have made it clear.

Absolutely shocking food!!! Do not order ANY sandwiches. I ordered a tuna & cheese sandwich, which came out dry, tuna straight from the tin and dry grated cheese, no sauce & it all fell out once I picked it up. I returned it as soon as it arrived to the table & to be fair they gave the money back after I asked. My partner ordered a chicken and bacon sandwich which he started to eat, but it was dry, chicken was pinkish and burnt bacon. However, they refused to refund/replace that one as they 'could see there was butter & wasn't dry' - sorry but for £8 a sandwich I don't expect gourmet but I also don't expect to be given that! The service was appalling and we had to leave in the end from embarrassment as we were made to feel like the ones in the wrong, which meant my kids couldn't finish their chips & we had to leave our drinks - £30+ down & left hungry! Honestly, so disappointed & angry!
Jade M — Google review
Went in for Sunday lunch, hardly any one in there, ordered sausage and chips and chicken and chips, with bread and butter, the bread was stale, the chicken was over cooked, the sausages was not cooked , the bar staff came up. Just after the meal arrived ask if everything was ok, it was to hot to eat so we said fine, obviously been microwaved, the staff said sorry you didn’t enjoy your meal clearly we left it! Never go there AGAIN

Kings Arms is a pub in Bury Saint Edmund. It is spacious with the possibility to choose whether to sit on chairs or sofas. Here you can drink a lot of beers and local English food, while watching premier League football matches. The staff is available and gentle.

Pros: lovely staff. Chill atmosphere. Good beer. Cons: horrible food. Mac&Cheese was definitely bad, it tasted as if was cooked with vinegar. The hamburgers, looked like from those frozen pre made burgers, and seemed like it was warmed on microwave (which may explain the food being served 10min after we ordered. Recommend the place for a drink. Choose another place for food.

Brewery
The Greene King Beer Café & Brewery Tours offer a unique opportunity to explore the rich heritage of one of England's oldest operational breweries. Located at the historic headquarters in Bury St Edmunds, visitors can embark on guided tours that delve into over 200 years of brewing history. The brewery, which dates back to 1086, boasts a fascinating story that includes monks brewing ale on the site of the Great Abbey.
Today I had the Brewery tour with my father, It was an amazing experience, Cathy was absolutely a legend showing passion and knowledge, giving me time to translate into Italian for my dad also. Practical moment, the tasting 😁 fantastic. Our top 3 Abbott, Abbott reserve and Old Speckled Hen Distinctive.
Patrik M — Google review
Absolutely loved my visit to the Greene King Beer Café & Brewery—such a rich slice of brewing history in the heart of Bury St Edmunds. The site has been brewing for over two centuries, with roots stretching right back to medieval times and a Victorian brewhouse still in use today . The gravity-fed system in the beautiful 1930s tower brewery is twice as impressive when you learn it’s still operational . But let’s be honest—the best part? The tasting. It’s a highlight of the tour, and you get to sample a range of their beers—absolutely worth it for any ale fan 😜 . And if you’re staying in or around Bury St Edmunds? I’d highly recommend fitting this visit into your itinerary.
Richard O — Google review
Just had the pleasure of doing the brewery tour and it was brilliant. Had a wonderful and very knowledgeable lady taking us round for a great insight to the history and production of one of the best known beers around. From the amazing views on top of the brewery to the taste testing their amazing selection, the whole experience was great.

It's always risky bringing out of towners into Bury St Edmunds and find something they'd be interested in. I need not worry. The Greene King Beer tour was just the tonic. Very informative, very interesting, loads of beer to taste and to take away and all led by the fabulous Cathy. Cathy was superb on every level. A twinkle in her eye when she said something sarcastic and brilliantly knowledgeable. My guests loved Cathy and the tour. My second time of doing it and I thoroughly recommend it.
Steven H — Google review
I’ve been wanting to do the tour for a long time and finally got round to it and glad I did. Steve was the tour guide and his knowledge of the history of Greene King and expertise in the range of beers made for a really interesting day. After the tour, the beer tasting session was excellent and we were able to taste 4/5 different beers. We finished off with a really good lunch in the cafe. Wholly recommend this tour, good value for money too.
Garry N — Google review
Very interesting and informative brewery tour. Our excellent guide, Paul, was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Bury St Edmunds, the history of Greene King and the brewing practices and processes. Shout out to the cafe staff as well who were also very friendly and attentive.

Whilst staying at Elevden Centre Parcs popped here for a tour. Everything about this place deserves 5 stars, The tour guide (John) so friendly and knowledgeable, the beer tasting at the end, explaining the different beers etc. Then had some food in the cafe, the staff here (Karen?) were also super friendly and the food amazing. Totally worth taking the time to come here and also Bury St Edmonds is lovely to walk around.

Our tours with John & Steve were absolutely fantastic! Their depth of knowledge is incredible and it was great to taste some beer and learn something at the same time. We particularly enjoyed the walking tour - Bury St Edmunds is a beautiful place and so full of history that we could have stayed wandering around all day. It was only the beer calling from the tasting room that tempted us back inside!

The Beerhouse is a pub in Bury St Edmunds with a rich brewing tradition. It is the brewery tap for the Brewshed brewery, where you can find craft ales brewed on site. If you're looking for a Belgian-style bar, keep an eye out for the soon-to-be-opened establishment by Beautiful Beers, a renowned family-owned shop.
Excellent place. Nice atmosphere, lots of seats and friendly staff. Great beer selection from their own brewery, even managed to get a proper Black IPA. They do the darker beers very well and I'd reccomend them. There is also a sourdough pizza place on site as well, although this wasn't open when I visited. Bar snacks are served however. Came here as a stop off for drinks on my hen do. Had pre booked some tables, the service was brilliant especially for only having one person front of house, he was friendly, welcoming and was very attentive to us and all other guests at the venue. Amazing selection on the menu, decor is stunning and really clean. Although we live near Bury St Edmunds we rarely make it into town of an evening, so we didn't actually know this place existed until we wandered past it on a busy Saturday night. Fortunately they had a table and we got to enjoy a few drinks in the lovely relaxed atmosphere. It's a real gem, with an extensive wine list (many by the glass), small plate food and lovely staff. We'll definitely return!

This place is a hidden jewel for anyone who appreciates a great drink and a welcoming atmosphere. One of the highlights of my visit was the interaction with Lewis. His expertise and knowledge of cocktails were truly impressive. He not only prepared some of the best cocktails I've ever had but also shared fascinating insights about each drink. Lewis’s passion for mixology is evident, and his friendly demeanor makes the experience all the more enjoyable. Whether you're a cocktail aficionado or new to the world of mixed drinks, Lewis is the person to see. The lighting and decor contribute to a warm and intimate atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed evening out. The Wine Cellar is a must-visit for anyone in Bury St Edmunds looking for a refined yet comfortable place to enjoy excellent drinks and company. The combination of Lewis’s cocktail mastery, the fantastic ambiance, and the kind-hearted people makes The Wine Cellar stand out as a top-notch destination. I highly recommend The Wine Cellar for an evening of superb cocktails and engaging company. It’s a place where each visit feels special, thanks to the skilled staff and the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Amazing place. Food is brilliant especially nachos and chips. Not normally a fan of nachos but they're brilliant and the portion size is superb. Mark is brilliant and definitely cares about the customers - keeps the place warm and makes decent cocktails with plenty of alcohol. Lovely vibe almost between a pub and a restaurant. We look forward to going here. Their dog sleeping is also a plus! Absolutely brilliant.

This was our first visit to the bar which had only reopened the day before. Mark the owner welcomed us and so did Jack his son. Both were really friendly chaps and made us feel welcome. They have done an amazing job with the decor. Although we didn't eat, the food looks really good. We had 2 glasses of thr Chablis which was a very good wine. They keep a good selection of wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks. I think we are definitely going to have some food next time the nachos looked really good too. Good luck Mark and team in your new venture. We shall be back !

Great atmosphere, welcoming and friendly. We sampled Expresso Martini (lovely, not too sweet), Pawnstar Martini and Margaritas - all lovey. Our other halves chose from a selection of bottled beers. The atmosphere is great, it's tucked away from the noise of the high street and they've given it the vibe of a speakeasy. The drinks were great and there were a lot of options for non-drinkers that used non-alcoholic spirits and not just lots of juice! The staff are really welcoming and friendly too. Would highly recommend!

We had a small private party here and I would recommend this to anybody, I cant actually review the food because we took our own but the hospitality from the initial enquiry right through to George as our personal bartender was absolutely incredible. The cocktails and mocktails created by George were perfect, the atmosphere and decor is so lovely too, So give this a go especially for a special occasion por fancy dress event, thankyou Secret distillery for making our night special
Karen W — Google review
I’ve been here three times and of the three times I’ve walked away because more than half the cocktails on the menu are out. Then this time I got up the cocktail I wanted I was told on the menu and then the bartender said I can’t do it because It’s summertime and we’re not in the winter. You don’t have multiple places. I would just suggest that you switch around cocktails on the list if you can’t provide them consistently. As a consumer, I would expect to be able to order what’s on the menu. I understand if one or two are out, but when consistently being told more than half the menu they can’t make it. It’s really not a cocktail bar then.

We came for a quiz night and were very impressed. Really good atmosphere and great drinks menu - if only we were better at quizzes! I really want to come back to taste the food as it looks and sounds delicious!

Lovely cocktails! Really enjoyed it here, the staff were friendly and helpful too!

This will definitely be our new local. We loved the wide range of cocktails and the staff had great knowledge of their products. The friendly bartenders were happy to recommend drinks for us to try and we loved that they make their own gin! The amount of awards their drinks have won clearly talk for themselves. We can’t wait to go back! Personally, I loved the Betty’s Spritz!

If you're on the hunt for an authentic Belgian experience, look no further than Vespers Belgian Beer Bar. Nestled in a charming 18th-century stable house, this bar boasts an impressive selection of over 50 specialty bottled beers and 15 draught options, catering to every beer enthusiast's palate.
One of my favourite beer places in Bury, if you love Belgian beer and want to try something new it’s the right place to be. They have 2 floors with easy access to toilets. You can taste different beers and decided what’s the best for you, some of the beers are pretty strong so everyone can find something they like. The bar staff are very friendly and great with recommendations depending on your preferences. A must try place in Bury.

Spacious bar offering a number of draught beer choices and a good range of bottled beers from Belgium and beyond. Cheese & meat platter and bar snacks available if you can bring for in for £2 a head. Lovely and comfortable upstairs. Staff are friendly and knowledgable. If you like your Belgian beers, this is definitely a place for you to visit. Highly recommended.

A charming spot right in the heart of town—perfect for drinks. We love the cozy board games area upstairs. We've visited a few times for relaxed evenings, and the staff have always been friendly and welcoming.

Had a wonderful time here today. Whoever was working the day shift was so accommodating and knowledgable. We had a very noisy baby and were not made to feel like that was a problem like so many venues do. Beer was amazing and the whole place well decorated and authentic well worth a visit!!!

Authentic Belgian beer. Range of choices varied enough to satisfy all preferences. A place to ease my Lambic cravings. 🤤 Everything looks and feels very “well-thought” (beer selection, glasses, drinks menu (other than beer), tables, etc.) for food they have a bar menu but you can order or collect from somewhere else and eat there. Nice nice nice 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

This award-winning brewery and distillery showcases an impressive selection of unique alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including their own creations as well as a variety of local Suffolk beers, ciders, wines, and spirits.
Great place to chill and have an authentic brew. Lounge style seating upstairs. Good range of ales and stout on tap, very friendly service. Become a member and get a year long discount.

Staff are very welcoming and eager to share the Nethergate range with visitors, even if something is not on tap, they’ll gladly open a bottle for you to sample. The tap room is small, but big on atmosphere. Well worth a visit if you want a decent ale while visiting Bury St Edmund’s

Great place to pop into when you are in town. Friendly staff and some lovely beers on tap which are sensibly priced and beautifully conditioned. Very good selection of merchandise in the shop. An overwhelming feeling of being made welcome makes this quality establishment a must visit if you are in Bury town centre.

Lovely little micro pub / taproom for Nethergate brewery. All of their beers are available on draught or in bottles, the staff are friendly and welcoming and. Decor is lovely and comfortable. Lovely stop to spend a few moments watching the world go by

Very friendly staff, lots of Nethergate brews on offer, plus many other exciting tipples. They also have some great lounge rooms on the first floor giving the place a quasi pub vibe.

Disappointed in opening times. It's a great place to go to and meet up with friends. Took out membership had some very good times with family. Then they reduce opening days just as the footfall was building up. It's still one of the most sociable venues in Bury just hoping they review opening days in the near future.

I want to thank Sally and Lilly for hosting my family while they’re in town. Sally welcomed my family with arms full of gin and beer. Sally really gives you an honest assessment of every tasty beverage she serves for a taster. You can tell Sally’s focus is on a delicious memorable experience and that the sale comes second; ironically makes me want to buy more. Love their Gin, Lager, but most of all their hospitality.

Pub
"The Dove" is a charming and rustic pub located just five minutes from the town center, making it a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. The interior exudes an early Victorian backstreet community feel, while the garden provides a delightful setting for enjoying drinks in the sunshine. With a focus on cask ales and real ciders, this traditional establishment offers six hand pumps and jugged ales direct from the cellar.
Perhaps the most special pub in England. 6-7 local cask ales stored and served to perfection. We came two nights in a row. The locals are so friendly, but the owner Roger (a big CAMRA contributor) and on our second visit, Brendan and Diane just made our visits so memorable. You drink the finest ales and chat with the loveliest hosts. Thank you!
Stephen H — Google review
A lot is going to depend on what you're looking for in a pub, but for some of us this is close to perfect. Having heard that the Dove is a "drinkers pub", I was a little apprehensive and nervous to enter when I was the first in my group to arrive. However the staff were welcoming and the regulars were friendly, so I really needn't have worried. My group and I frequently fell into pleasant conversations with the staff and other customers. There's no food beyond bar snacks, and in many respects the facilities are really basic. There's no music or TV, I don't drink, so I may be wrong on this but I believe in terms of alcohol it's ales and spirits only. I doubt there's WiFi (though there may be). In addition it's cash only and there's a no swearing policy. Combined with low levels of staffing you might think this all makes for a disaster, but they cater to a different niche. Firstly, all the above means their costs are low and their prices are the lowest I've seen in years. Secondly, the noise levels are reasonable and you can make yourself heard in your group without raising your voice. Though there wouldn't be much sense in attending with kids, the Dove has a family feel, and I'm looking forward to my next visit.
Steve L — Google review
Dove Bury in Saint Edmund’s was a disappointing experience. The atmosphere was lacking, and the bar staff were rude especially the old boy with the long beard! which made the visit even more shocking. The opening times were also inconvenient. To top it off, the place had a persistent smell, and the toilets were disgusting. If I could rate this out of five, it would be zero. I will never step foot in this pub again!
Shaun D — Google review
It’s a proper pub. That rare and endangered thing. The decor is tired and basic, place can have a bit of a musk all its own, but it is what it is. It is cash only, a thing that people seem to moan about but in truth most people who come to the pub know this and are here for one thing in particular. The beer (and the social aspect that goes with it of course). Lovingly served, kept and drank. I haven’t been here for about 8 years (don’t live in the area) but I came today after a long walk and it was exactly the same. And long may it be. Hats off to one of my top ten pubs in the country, and I have been in a few….
Steve P — Google review
A wonderful, traditional pub with a traditional (though very individual!) guvnor. Brilliant selection of well-kept ales at incredible (cheap) prices. A real hidden gem - love it! 😘
Robin S — Google review
A great pub, very popular with locals. The beers are inexpensive, the focus is on atmosphere rather than profit. A good range of real ales and bar snacks. The landlord is a character. It all makes for a very pleasant place for drinks with friends.
Nick N — Google review
Great pub if you like real ale, don't want to eat and don't mind your surroundings. Nothing flash or smart here, but full of friendly people and good ales and stouts No lager sold here. It's a boozer, not a gastropub.

The Westgate, formerly known as The Black Boy, is a charming traditional pub located just a few minutes from Bury St Edmunds city center. It offers hearty English cuisine, a variety of beverages including Greene King Ales, and comfortable en-suite accommodations for guests. The inn's convenient location allows easy access to nearby attractions such as St Mary's Church and St Edmundsbury Cathedral. Guests can also enjoy complimentary wireless internet and an arcade/game room during their stay.
Clean and safe. I’m a solo female traveler and I appreciated this place for its convenience. I had time to complete work during the day. There is a courtyard below where you can hear people, but at midnight when it closes it’s silent and remains very quiet throughout the morning. Beds are ok.
Erika S — Google review
I have just spent 2 nights at this historic pub in the town centre. Room 4, for solo travellers has almost everything you could need - quiet, warm radiator, comfy bed, plenty of hot water. Only improvement - a fold up chair. Breakfast at 8.30 is cooked breakfast. I had 2 eggs instead of meat or veggie options. Only improvement - marmite. Recommend an eye mask as curtains v thin (I always sleep with one) Hope to stay here again. New landlord friendlier than previous one.

A nice pub quiet every evening. The rooms are clean and comfortable. If you're looking for a multi chain variety B&B this isn't it. The showers hot eventually and beer cold and the greeting frosty. Update : If you're working away and start at 9am you won't get breakfast as the landlord doesn't cook breakfast until 9am. Maybe 8.30am which doesn't help if you're working in the area. Something to bear in mind when you think you're getting a B&B. Missed out on breakfast all week looking forward to the last day when I did get it. Asked for a few extra bacon and sausage and told "it's already cooked" not very endearing when he's not cooked us breakfast for the preceding 5 mornings to refuse to cook us extra on the last day and had payment for the breakfasts. A good game played slow as they say. Because of that I won't be returning if I'm every staying in the area again.

Nice back garden area with cover if you want to smoke. Pool table 70p a go thought that was a bit much for pool. They have a beautiful dog that chilling in the pub as well. Not the best pub in Bury St Edmunds but not the worst ever.

Enjoyed our stay spotlessly clean, comfortable beds. Friendly staff. No breakfast due to covid but not a problem as lots of places within a couple of minutes walk. Plus, they have some perfect draft kegs available for purchase. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth checking out!
I used this shop for the first time a couple of weeks ago to order some Belgian beers. I was really impressed by their wide selection and reasonable prices. When I asked to make a slight late change to my order it was done with no fuss even although my beers had already been packed. My beers arrived within 2 days of order well packed with no damages. I cannot recommend Beautiful Beers highly enough and will definitely be using them again.

Stopped off in Bury St Edmunds for a coffee and couldn’t resist the lure of a good beer shop. Lovely place with a wide selection (including some rare finds) and the man was very helpful with recommendations of the local beers they had. Would highly recommend!

My boyfriend and I had the most wonderful time here. I don’t usually enjoy beer shops but this one is really special. Rene was working and he was so warm and kind. He made beer so interesting, taught us so much about the brewing process, why his favorite beers are special, and advised my boyfriend on which to try next. My boyfriend left with two new favorite beers that were very well priced and wants to make driving an hour up to that shop a weekly thing so he can keep trying more and see Rene again.

What a great shop. Such a large range of decent Belgium beers, one of the best in the UK. I have ordered online from BB before a few times and always received a good service. Just like a decent bottle shop you find in Belgium. I look forward to visiting again in the future.

This place is a fabulous place to experience for beer lovers. My husband went today and fell in love. Also make a key point to say the prices are not all that bad. It’s not a place where you can expect them to sell their beers a wholesale prices. It is more of an experience to have the chance to purchase a more variety of beers other than a market that only sells a handful. If you love beer go check this place out!

Visited this coffee shop this morning after reading the good reviews. Two women were serving- very unfriendly and rude. The male waiter however was friendly and upbeat. This place is overpriced- £3.50 for a hard, unfresh croissant! Won't be visiting again. Ordered a latte which came in a tiny glass cup and tasted awful

Awesome spot, tucked away from the main town centre. Loved the vibe- unpretentious, but tasteful and nicely decorated. I personally loved the chipboard bar etc.- ignore the haters. Top notch filter coffee and flat white with beans from local roastery I believe- Butterworth and sons. Super juicy, flavourful and good prices too. Staff were really welcoming and friendly- exactly what I look for in a coffee joint. Will certainly be returning next time I'm in bury 👍

Best coffee in town hands down. They serve a very high quality drink in appropriate sized ceramic. If you after a Costa bucket of coffee it's not the place for you. Great ambience and the staff are clearly all skilled baristas.
Thomas A — Google review
Walking in to this chilled coffee house you find it not only had a good vibe but also a split personality (which we look forward to trying). During the day, it's a traditional Coffee shop and in the evening they bring out the mixologist to deliver cocktails. As for the coffee? Even their house filter blend is changed every 90 minutes to assure it's freshness. Ask some of the others if they do the same? It helps that they both roast and grind their own coffee as this really helps to deliver a constantly changing blend of outstanding tastes. You have to give this place a go. We'll certainly be back.

Love this place! Feel like you are going into a speakeasy, as it feels all secret and members only (which it isnt...but as you have to buzz the buzzer...and someone has to let you in...it adds to the mystery!). Fabulous atmosphere, great service and good tunes. We were a group of four girls and had a combo of breakfast tea, mocktails and cocktails! All of which were served with a smile and a recommendation. Highly recommended...a definite stop off or destination if you are on a night out and wanting something a bit different in Bury St Edmunds.

Delightful coffee cafe upstairs and a luxurious cocktail speakeasy downstairs (Baskerville Bar) what’s not to love!? For those of you looking for a daytime respite, Moriarty’s is sure to have a coffee, sweet, light meal, or prohibition style cocktail to fit your fancy. Lucky for you cool cats and kittens, they’re dog friendly; that’s right, you can enjoy all these goodies with your BFF by your side (upstairs). We stopped in on a beautiful Saturday afternoon for some day drinking and were greeted by the friendly staff who made a mean cocktail (thank you Jake & Laurie for the cocktails, and Daisy thanks you Catherine for the gravy biscuits) and a nice introduction to their cute digs. All of the cocktails were lovely but the Moriarty takes the cake; it legitimately has magic-umami sprinkled in there somewhere. I loved that they had recycled coffee grounds (from the local Crude roasters) for takeaway for your garden, used pasta for straws, and takeaway everything ordered from their menu online. Of course only the highest COVID precautions were taken and at no point did we feel in danger for our health. Be sure to stop by for some guilty pleasures and support your local BSE coffee/cocktail purveyors!

Best place in bury!! Exactly what it needed. Fantastic staff and always happy!!!! Love the music and happy hour which is long than an hour. Cocktails are genuinely made with care and attention to detail. Returning plenty for more.

Don't know about the food, as I never ordered any. Bar staff are very friendly as is the owner Georgia. Always good atmosphere and good dj's 👍

Had the most amazing night, Georgia was so friendly and gave us free shots as it was our friends birthday! Love it here!!

Went out for the the night and was so excited to try this new bar and we were having a great time at happy hour. All sat chatting and laughing, as you do when you catch up with friends. It was fun untill the girl behind the bar came over and told us to be quiet. Which was so confusing because the music was loud every was was talking, we may have been laughing a bit loud but it's was 7.30pm and we had a few drinks. We were just sat enjoying out time. I could understand if we were up dancing on tables but we were not.

Bed & breakfast
Nestled in a serene location, The Old Stable is a delightful restaurant that offers an exceptional gastro pub-style dining experience. With its charming equestrian-themed decor, including bridles and saddles, the ambiance is both inviting and cozy. Guests rave about the warm hospitality provided by Joanna, who goes above and beyond to ensure every visit feels special. Many have enjoyed her delectable homemade breakfasts featuring honey, granola, fresh bread, and jams—so much so that they often take some home!
This was our third visit to Joanna’s and as always we found her hospitality 10/10. Joanna’s breakfast of homemade honey, granola, bread and jams are to die for…as always I ordered two packs of granola to take home with me! The accommodation itself was spotless with homemade biscuits in the bedrooms (a lovely touch). The sun even managed to pop its head out to allow us a quick dip in the swimming pool. The location is lovely and quiet. I couldn’t recommend this accommodation enough. We WILL be back for a fourth visit!

We absolutely loved our stay here at the Old Stable. Joanna is a wonderful host and the accommodations are beautiful and modern with country charm. The bed in the hayloft was comfy and cozy and the ensuite was beautiful, modern and well thought out. The breakfast was delicious and freshly homemade, save room; You won’t need lunch for sure! We will happily stay here again when next in Bury. Thank you for the great visit.

Lovely getaway cottage. Stayed with a couple of friends before a wedding. It was perfect. Stunning setting, very relaxing, a big pool and sunbathing chairs. The owner is lovely and made us a wonderf breakfast of our choice - the californian eggs were delicious. Would definitely go back if needing somewhere to stay in the area.
