Il Rifugio is a family-run gem that captures the heart of Sardinian cuisine. We were lucky to have a reservation as the restaurant was turning away walk-ins the night we visited and from the first course to the last, it was clear why. To start, we had a simple yet elegant plate of shaved bottarga over celery and mozzarella, the kind of dish that shows restraint and confidence. For my main, I ordered filindeu in lamb broth with pecorino. Filindeu is known as the world’s rarest pasta—fewer than ten women in Sardinia still know how to make it. The semolina dough is hand-stretched into 256 delicate threads, layered in a crisscross pattern, and dried in the sun. Served in the rich lamb broth, it was unlike any pasta I’ve ever had. My wife ordered culurgiones, Sardinian ravioli stuffed with potato, enriched with guanciale, toasted almonds, and orange peel. It was extraordinary, full of flavor and texture, and perfectly paired with a glass of Cannonau. The atmosphere was warm and unpretentious, the service attentive without being formal, and the food carried a sense of tradition elevated by precision and care. Dining here felt both authentic and special, the kind of meal that lingers in your memory long after. Il Rifugio is not to be missed if you find yourself in Nuoro, make a reservation, and prepare to experience Sardinia on a plate.

We took a trip from Dorgali to Nuoro because of this place and its charming story…and so glad we did! If Rifugio is the best restaurant we visited in Sardinia. Food quality is at its finest, all cooked with perfection. We tried beef fillet and grilled calamari (the best we’ve ever had including greeks) - both amazingly tender, juicy and tasty. Wine and desserts also 10/10. The atmosphere is authentic and cozy, there were nonstop coming locals and tourists even though it was monday evening. Lots of people were waiting outside. Reserve a table for sure! In addition, Nuoro is quite charming by itself, we observed a spectacular sunset over the hills. So, if you exploring the area, Nuoro and Il Rifugio are exellent experience together.

We did not make a reservation and they fitted us in their busy schedule. We had a lovely meal at Il Refugio. Fresh seafood salad à la Mediterraneo, Tonno Rosso and Raviolini di formaggio with lamb ragu. Would visit again definitely!

Without doubt the best meal I had on my three week trip around Sardinia. Mouthwatering pasta full to the brim with flavour and love. Kind staff and a great wine selection. Thank you.

The second 5 *Star restaurant that we were fortunate to experience in Sardinia. Ristorante II Portico in the city of Nuoro is a well run restaurant with a great staff that offers delicious food and wine. The owner/host was friendly and very kind. His entree recommendations and wine selection was spot on. I am still thinking about the delicious lamb chops and ribeye steak combination. The plating was a work of art and the table service was superb. The complete meal for the two of us was approximately $68. Try getting that value in New York city or Boston USA for a *5 Star dinner. We drove-passed Locanda sas on our way back from olbia and we got a totally pleasant surprise. We got there under the rain feeling pretty cold and tired with other 2 hours drive still to head, we were served promptly in a very quick and professional fashion by the waiter, also a really polite guy. We enjoyed the combination of starters much plus the horse meat topped with pecorino cheese proved really superb. The only non perfect note was possibly the wine, but in the full context was not really an issue. Highly recommendable to anyone being in Nuoro area.

You can order it as a wrap and combine the exquisite range of ingredients they have on the menu to make a heavenly meal. They also stock vegan local *cheese* (Veghu) and you can add it to your pane lentu wrap. The staff is also nice and very chatty. I would only kindly say that they need to improve on their dietary restricted orders as they may slip and give you dairy cheese when you order a vegan platter instead. This happened to us. We were waited on by Gianperlo and Laura - both were welcoming, helpful and professional throughout. We shared a number of beautiful dishes for our meal  -  the ingredients were fresh, well seasoned and absolutely delicious. This is a high quality agriturismo, in a fabulous location, with great food, and excellent service. Dornato kindly explained to us the origins of the wonderful ceiling structure. The bill was very reasonable given the high quality experience. I strongly recommend a visit here - wonderful food, wonderful people. End of.

I love mangoes and these were perfectly ripe, covered with mango puree, just a perfect sweet sushi - and included in the all you can eat. Also the fish mix tartare salad with vegetables was awesome. Some options you can only have once but there is plenty to pick from so you don't run out. So many other great options I haven't tried yet, I need to come back. Just a shame no fresh fruit on its own was on offer.
